clubface help increase ball speed across the entire face combined with a Ridgeback Titanium spine running through the crown a deep center of gravity and improved MOI — one of the highest MOI values of of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy features a more neutral head that offers an optimal blend of carry distance and maximum forgiveness. One of the key things about the Qi10 is that for the vast majority of golfers the lively carbon composite face provides lively feel and more ball speed without any sacrifice of control or accuracy The Qi10 driver boasts a high MOI for better forgiveness shape and subtle blue coloring provide confidence-inspiring aesthetics The white accent line on the topline aids in alignment helping golfers square the clubface and achieve straighter drives Both Scheffler and McIlroy have benefitted from significant gains in fairways hit since switching to this driver the Qi10’s combination of advanced materials and intelligent weighting makes it one of the most forgiving drivers for a wide range of players Shop TaylorMade Golf Qi10 Driver You wouldn’t expect a nearly 10-year-old driver to make our list of the best drivers for slicers, but the TaylorMade higher-launch ball flight with reduced backspin for straighter shots or it can help you work a high draw shot shape with longer carry The Inverted Cone Technology enlarges the sweet spot minimizing 2016 M2 its more flexible face promotes improved distance on low strikes The 2017 model also features a 12-position loft sleeve with 4 degrees of adjustment to fine-tune trajectory Enhanced materials replaced by the Stealth series in 2022 was designed for mid-handicap golfers (10-25 handicap) seeking a blend of distance and forgiveness It was TaylorMade's lightest and strongest driver before the promote longer The aluminum Forged Ring Construction adds power and forgiveness while the lightweight carbon sole and increased rear weight contribute to a low center of gravity and high MOI Although the SIM2 lacks built-in draw bias its stabilized clubface at impact helps reduce slices TaylorMade’s Speed Injected Twist Face technology pushes ball speed to the limit and the corrective face curvature ensures straighter shots For golfers seeking a confidence-inspiring driver with plenty of forgiveness to help with slicing Shop TaylorMade SIM2 Driver The Rogue ST MAX may not be able to Personalized performance is nothing new in the world of golf drivers Over the years golf club engineers and designers have come to understand one driver is simply not enough to offer all golfers optimal speed as everyone genuinely hits the ball differently The thinking’s led to major manufacturers offering three or four different driver models so all golfers get the opportunity to dial in either low spin And it’s that simple personalized performance idea Callaway have taken inspiration from to develop their new 2022 Rogue ST Drivers Each of the four new models is specifically Speed Tuned to better suit its intended golfer than ever before Callaway consistently produce some of the best golf drivers available Callaway say Rogue ST drivers are an evolution over the popular 2018 Rogue drivers not a replacement of the 2021 Epic Speed or 2020 Mavrik (which came at forgiveness in an unconventional way thanks to a forward CG for increased ball speed and spin robust face to manage dispersion) so don’t expect any big meaty speed or distance claims over the two preceding models Callaway have taken a Formula 1 approach whilst designing the ST drivers exploring how every single parameter can be optimized to incrementally nudge and push the rules of maximum distance and stability to higher levels Updates for 2022 include a new Jailbreak Speed Frame behind the face Callaway say the design is stiffer at the bottom and more flexible at the top and the company looked at 10 different titanium alloys before finding a material that could cope with the stresses of impacting a golf ball at 100+mph A new Unibody construction was inspired by studying the construction of F1 cars it means the Rogue ST heads are more consistently constructed than previous models they’re also better at containing impact energy and returning it to the golf ball too A new tungsten speed cartridge (which ranges in weight from 26g – 20g) at the back of the head delivers extreme perimeter weighting performance within the family Stock shaft: Mitsubishi Tensei AV White / Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue The Rogue ST Max is the family’s most forgiving model Callaway say it will make up 55 – 60% of all Rogue ST sales in 2022 Callaway are urging punters to see the three Max models as a mechano set of drivers Each has a traditional stretched wide confidence inspiring head shape and a tweaked center of gravity location for either lowering spin upping MOI or counteracting a distance draining slice Compared to the previous Epic Speed the Max cuts backspin by 250 RPM which equates to 3 yards of extra distance and gives an 11% tighter down range dispersion Callaway say there’s a touch of draw bias built in (but nowhere near as much as the slice busting Rogue ST Max D), so it suits all levels of golfer well. Callaway reckon the Max is a little easier to hit straight than Ping’s G425 Max A 26g tungsten Speed Cartridge (the copper-coloured section at the back of the head) means golfers get an MOI of 9000+ gcm2, where the Mavrik from two years ago was 7500gcm2 so golfers can expect extra ball speed protection when shots don’t hit the centre of the face In a year when tons of club golfers will be excited and blinkered by the carbon fiber tech wrapped up in the face of TaylorMade’s new Stealth driver it’s easy to forget hybrid titanium face and carbon fiber crown and sole panel drivers are right at their peak (TaylorMade would of course say they’ve plateaued hence why they’ve moved on) and 3rd generation models have now rolled into this years drivers like the Rogue ST Max And based on the Max’s impressive performance you really shouldn’t give up on titanium faces just yet Within the forgiving driver category the ST Max is an outstanding model It was our test pro’s longest forgiving driver by 5 yards (which is a significant amount at his speed and ability) but it’s not just raw power with no forgiveness The model was tied 2nd fastest in terms of ball speed and 3rd best at protecting carry distance drop off (9 yards / 3.2%) which is really beneficial when it comes to on course consistency and driving reliability with new matt black crown manages to look super desirable at address But what’s really clever is Callaway building in a touch of draw bias to this model The idea will help improve ball speeds for slight heel strikers and give a hand to many golfers in attaining the ball flight shape they dream of How the Callaway Rogue ST Max compares to other forgiving drivers in data (shots hit by TG test pro Neil Wain) Like all four ST drivers (and each different loft) the lower spin LS has different artificially intelligent designed patterns on the back of the face to optimize ball speed from the typical impact locations of each loft and model Callaway say the tech gives marginal gains over competitors and since starting to use AI in 2019 they’ve got better at asking the computer to optimize loft Each generation wrings out extra performance that wouldn’t have been possible before AI The tech allows Callaway to make the LS very speed and spin robust so on and off-centre hits fly consistent distances It used to be common thinking in running circles that big men but Callaway say thanks to the LS having a shorter head from front to back and an aggressive aerodynamic shape (with a sloping crown from front to back) this just isn’t the case with the latest Max LS driver The LS is a high MOI driver that’s built to lower spin for extra distance with more shot shaping capacity and a more neutral (straight) ball flight than the Rogue ST Max An excellent choice for bombers who also want a degree of shot shaping capability Callaway say the LS typically falls into the hands of mid to low handicap golfers Golf equipment has moved on massively since Callaway last gave their 2013 X Hot driver a matt paintjob (it was dark grey not black) but we’re loving the return for this seasons Rogue ST In the eyes of Equipment Ed Simon Daddow the LS is his favorite looking driver of the category as the matt black finish and cracking head shape look so playable and inviting to hit Our test pro didn’t quite hit the same heights as he did with the standard Rogue ST Max even though we tested both models with exactly the same shaft Our pro’s slightly downward attack angle saw the model giving up 2.9 mph of ball speed and 12 yards of carry distance to its more forgiving sibling (the Callaway Rogue ST Max) It’s highly likely though for more neutral and upwards driver strikers these numbers could well be reversed What’s important is the LS is a lovely low spin driver this year If you happen to be a more consistent striker and you want to chase distance through lowering spin then the model should definitely be on your short list to try in 2022 How the Callaway Rogue ST Max LS compares to other low spin drivers in data (shots hit by TG test pro Neil Wain) Thanks to extra heel weighting the ST Max D is the family’s most draw biased model Hopefully slicers already understand they’re distance impaired (as slice spin hovers up power going off line rather than travelling towards to the target) but Callaway’s most draw enabled driver the Rogue ST Max D is set-up to counteract that slice spin and keep golfers on the mown grass more often Callaway say the Max D has less face progression so there’s more time to square the face at impact A more upright lie angle helps start shots further left of the target there’s a forgiving stretched address profile and internal and external weighting to create maximum shot shape correction A 20g Tungsten Speed Cartridge also ensures high MOI performance for maximum forgiveness performance on off-centre hits With Callaway’s Rogue ST Max driver having a smidgeon of draw bias built in this year we reckon a ton of golfers will choose that model this year over the Max D Just remember if you’re anywhere close to having a severe slice you should definitely look at the Max D instead Callaway have been really good for a few years now at setting up their driver heads differently to cater for varying target golfers It’s an idea they say they’ve taken to the max to ensure very personalized performance this year The Max D is noticeably wider from front to back (than the standard Rogue ST Max) which for less confident drivers should boost confidence and within the draw category nobody can argue this isn’t a very good looking driver The Max D’s performance was solidly out in front of Simon’s current driver (by 0.4mph ball speed and 3 yards of carry distance) which on any normal year would represent a reasonable switch it wasn’t though quite enough to match the Stealth HD in 2022 How the Callaway Rogue ST Max D compares to other draw drivers in data (shots hit by TG Equipment Editor Simon Daddow). The highlighted red Ping G400 SFT was Simon’s gamer driver when the test was completed 90% of Callaway drivers are sold with stock shafts which in part is down to installing true after-market models as stock lines But because Rogue ST is all about personalized performance Callaway have optimized each driver model with its own stock shaft The ST Max LS comes with a higher bend point and lower launching Mitsubishi Tensei AV White The ST Max will be mostly decked out with a higher launching while thanks to targeting speed the ST Max D comes with a lighter Project X Cypher It’s no secret Callaway like other manufacturers create ‘tour only’ driver models that are only accessible to their elite tour staff. In 2021 Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson won the US Open and PGA Championship respectively, and Xander Schauffele won an Olympic Gold Medal and they were all playing Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond drivers a model that wasn’t available to the public Thanks to an influx of interest in Triple Diamond for 2022 Callaway are bringing the Rogue ST Triple Diamond LS to retail Before you get too excited though remember who this model is aimed at Callaway say the Triple Diamond is a tour-proven 450cc (it’s smaller than the standard Rogue ST Max) The model is the lowest-spinning Rogue ST driver and it comes decked out with a neutral-to-fade bias which Callaway say makes it a great anti-left driver Compared to the previous Sub Zero the Triple Diamond has a deeper face which means its MOI is nudging 8000+ gcm2 whereas the Rogue ST Max is a full 1000 points higher at 9000+ gcm2 Think very seriously before plumping for a Triple Diamond on the grounds of just lowering spin or because the best players in the world use them Details: Callaway Rogue ST Triple Diamond LS driver Got a question about the Callaway Rogue ST drivers? what truly separates the ST-Max from the X the Z and the newly released G models is how the engineers at Mizuno have optimized the geometry of the head for forgiveness all while maintaining the same 460cc volume by making it shallower and longer heel to toe This shallow shape increases the overall surface area of the crown and sole which allows for an expanded Cortech chamber on the sole for more flex and a total of 54 grams of back weight in the rear making it Mizuno’s most stable driver ever made To put the mass distribution into perspective the 54-gram number is almost 20 grams more than the standard weight of the ST-X What makes the Cortech chamber different is that it has been lengthened and shifted closer to the club face to better maintain ball speeds over a larger area The Beta-rich Titanium LFS face material is 9 percent higher in tensile strength (compared to the previously used SAT2041) and gives engineers the ability to create a more complex multi-thickness face geometry like what’s used on the most recent ST-G Mizuno believes that the new ST-Max offers enough forgiveness and total MOI that it has stretched the stock length to 45.75 inches to help golfers add speed “The goal of the ST-Max project was to engineer the greatest MOI and performance from off-center strikes but not sacrifice ball speed or make the profile too cumbersome to look at,” Voshall said the ST-Max driver will be available in 9.5 (right- and left-hand available) and 10.5 degrees of loft (right-hand only) They come with Mizuno’s quick-switch hosel with four degrees of adjustability The max forgiveness and geometry of the driver continue with the fairway woods and hybrids by offering a larger footprint to help add MOI and stability around the entire head While the smaller hybrids use a waffle pattern on the inside of the steel crown to increase strength and help position more weight in the sole “The ST-Max stands alone as a high-MOI design; we’ve had genuine curiosity from our tour staff,” Voshall said “A consequence of making sure the profile still looks good over the ball and the speed is there. Without retaining the other performance traits of a great fairway wood an extra few points on the MOI scale means very little.” the ST-Max fairway woods will be available in 15 and 18 degrees (right- and left-hand available) and a 21-degree option (right-hand only) the ST-Max fairway woods will come with Mizuno’s quick-switch hosel with four degrees of adjustability The ST-Max hybrids will be available in lofts of 19 with the 22- and 25-degree heads also available for left-handed golfers Mizuno’s quick-switch hosel with four degrees of adjustability is available on all hybrid lofts fairway woods and hybrids will be available in February Want to overhaul your bag for 2024? Find a fitting location near you at True Spec Golf Ryan Barath is GOLF Magazine and GOLF.com’s senior editor for equipment He has an extensive club-fitting and -building background with more than 20 years of experience working with golfers of all skill levels he was the lead content strategist for Tour Experience Golf Mitsubishi Lai' Li Blue or UST Mamiya Helium NanoCore 4F1 shaft and Lamkin ST Hybrid grip Specs: MAS1C maraging stainless steel with stainless steel chassis Who It's For: Golfers who prioritize forgiveness and who want to hit straighter shots off the tee and from the fairway The Skinny: The new ST-Max 230 is designed to be the most forgiving most stable and easiest fairway wood to hit in the Mizuno lineup The Deep Dive: Mizuno's ST-G fairway wood is an attention-getter because with its titanium construction massive stainless steel sole plate and weight-forward design accomplished golfers can use it as an alternative to a driver for increased accuracy without losing much distance the Japanese brand is offering its most stable fairway wood yet for golfers who want a point-and-shoot club that is even easier to hit the ST-Max is the biggest fairway wood in the Mizuno stable and when it comes to helping a club resist twisting on off-center hits But what really makes a club more stable on shots hit outside of the sweet spot is a high moment of inertia (MOI) Mizuno designers needed to reposition more weight to the back of the head instead of using stainless steel on the crown That not only creates discretionary weight but also removes weight from the top of the club and lowers the center of gravity (CG) location Mizuno also gave the ST-Max 230 a larger CorTech Chamber behind the leading edge The CorTech chamber is a slot that allows the lower portion of the hitting area to flex more efficiently and pull the sweet spot down The slot is covered by a blue thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to keep water and debris out of the head but a small stainless-steel bar has been added instead of the TPU the TPU soaks up some of the vibrations that are created to make shots feel better but the bar's momentum keeps it moving forward so the club transfers more energy into the shot The TPU used in the CorTech Chamber weighs less than the steel that would be there and along with the weight saved by using a carbon fiber crown it allowed Mizuno to add a weight in the back of the sole that pulls the center of gravity back and elevates the MOI the new ST-Max produces a higher ball flight and more spin which for many golfers should translate into more carry distance and a steep angle of descent so shots stop faster for more control and consistency Below are several looks at the Mizuno ST-Max 230 fairway woods Odyssey drops 'zero torque' Ai-ONE Square 2 Square putters Golfweek Gift Guide: Best golf gifts for her this holiday season The PXG Desert Golf Club is made for rocks, cacti, gritty sand and more Want to own the shoes Caitlin Clark wore at The Annika? designCallaway gave the Rogue ST hybrids a full-length 455 stainless steel cup face to increase ball speed and performance across the hitting area Instead of being a flat piece of metal welded to the body the face extends and wraps over the topline the toe and the leading edge to broaden the sweet spot Callaway also designed each face differently based on its loft using artificial intelligence Callaway’s computer systems determined the ideal pattern for each club so they are all subtly different with seemingly random thicker and thinner areas Callaway has added a Jailbreak system to hybrids It started as a pair of internal bars that connected the sole and crown to stiffen the club’s body and help return energy to the ball for more distance the Jailbreak system designed into the Rogue ST hybrids has been modified Callaway added a pair of metal pieces like window frames in the heel and toe areas The reason for this is hybrids are wide but much smaller than drivers and fairway woods and Callaway said the updated Jailbreak ST system does a better job of stiffening the chassis It also pushes some extra weight to the perimeter of the head to increase stability To help offset the weight of the hosel and push the center of gravity down and back Callaway added an internal tungsten weight to the toe area of the sole Driving the center of gravity down and back helps encourage a higher launch and softer-landing shots so golfers should find their ideal long-iron replacement when working with a custom fitter The Rogue ST Max is an iron-style hybrid with a square-toe design It was created with slightly stronger lofts for more ball speed Callaway said the Rogue ST Max creates 1.5 mph more ball speed and 3.5 yards more distance than the Mavrik hybrid 5H (23 degrees) and 6H (26 degrees) versions The Rogue ST Pro is a fairway wood-style hybrid with a more-rounded face and lower profile The Pro has a slightly flatter lie angle and a sole designed with more camber to improve turf interaction 3H (20 degrees) and 4H (23 degrees) versions The Rogue ST Max OS and OS Lite hybrids were designed with a draw bias to help golfers who slice The Max OS Lite is designed especially for slower-swinging players It comes standard with a lighter shaft and less tungsten in the head to help players generate more clubhead speed The Rogue ST Max OS is available as a 3H (19 degrees) The distance than traditional long irons The Deep Dive: The new Mizuno ST-Max hybrids are designed to appeal to the same golfers who will benefit from the ST-Max driver and fairway woods meaning golfers who want to maximize stability and forgiveness While the driver and fairway woods utilize multi-material constructions Instead of adding a small carbon fiber crown Mizuno made the top of the club thicker in some areas and thinner in others and while the glossy black top gives the ST-Max hybrids a classic look in the address position a larger CorTech Chamber complements the MAS1C stainless steel face in the sole It's a slot designed behind the leading edge that is then filled with a blue thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) so grass and debris do not get inside the head Mizuno designers have added a stainless steel bar that helps the head maintain forward momentum at the moment of impact while the TPU reduces weight and soaks up excessive vibrations the CorTech Chamber also helps golfers generate more ball speed makes the ST-Max 230 hybrids more stable on off-center hits but the addition of a weight in the back of the sole helps to drive up the MOI and further increase stability To help golfers and fitters fill distance gaps and provide clubs that go to precise distances the ST-Max 230 hybrids are available in four loft options each club's adjustable hosel allows the stated loft to be increased or decreased by up to 2 degrees The result is golfers can adjust the clubs to cover lofts from as little as 17 degrees to as much as 30 degrees Several close-up images Naughton’s form against the Hawks will give Dogs fans a reason to smile He got better and better as the game went on Battle (27 possessions and six marks) and to a lesser extent Barrass (11 They have abandoned any talk about finals and the public focus is on their round-one home clash against St Kilda on March 16 beating the premiers and seeing so many good signs from their new players are important boosts for Adelaide It was also significant that they won a tight game - even if Brisbane blew two very gettable late chances - given the Crows lost six games last season by less than success,” St Kilda football boss David Misson said so now we’ll give Max some time to recuperate and establish a more definite return-to-play timeline from there we don’t believe this will cause major delays to Max’s 2025 campaign and he’ll remain touch and go for round one.” Liam Henry (knee) is also in doubt for round one while Mattaes Philippou (leg stress fracture) Dougal Howard (shoulder) and around the entire head A composite-wrap crown covers the toe section of the fairway wood heads to reduce overall mass higher in the head.  The new hybrids also use a waffle pattern on the inside of the steel crown to increase strength and help position more weight in the sole A lot of people forget that Mizuno was the first OEM to produce a driver with an adjustable sliding weight track and although it has gone through a number of iterations it is back with the 2024 ST-G to help adjust ball flight and dial-in spin The sliding weight track isn’t the only adjustable technology either because both the fairway woods and the driver are also outfitted with Mizuno’s quick switch adjustable hosel and to help the face of the ST-G driver better deliver more energy across a larger area the engineers at Mizuno utilize a beta-rich Ti LFS material This titanium alloy offers up a 9 percent higher tensile strength compared to SAT2041 which gave designers the opportunity to push the multi-thickness face geometry further tour testing demonstrated an average 1.5 mph ball speed increase compared using the SAT2041 material Now behind the face and on the sole is the Cortech Chamber which houses a stainless steel weight encased in an elastomeric TPU This filed slot removes stress from the club face to create more flex while also positioning more mass near the face to lower spin and offer a powerful sound at impact The ST-Max features a larger address profile but what truly separates the ST-Max from the X Any company that can count the brilliant forged Apex iron family within their ranks will face a challenge when introducing competing new models But Callaway insist thanks to the company cleverly pitching the Apex as the best iron they make last year consumers are now more primed to understand the differences between Apex and four new Rogue ST models Apex are the best golf irons Callaway make because they’re forged and cost over £1K a set But Callaway know not everyone is willing to pay a premium price to play forged irons so there’s plenty of space for four new Rogue ST irons in 2022 Here’s what you need to know about each of them Stock shaft: Project X Rifle Tour Flighted (s) Mitsubishi Tensei AV White (g) Forgiveness rating: 2.5 (Players’ Distance Iron) Callaway have taken inspiration from the ‘personalised performance’ story behind their 2022 Rogue ST Max drivers to come up with four new Rogue ST irons Each is more tailored down to the traits of its intended audience than ever before The ST Pro is a cast hollow body iron (where the majority of hollow irons have either a forged body or face) thanks to 48g of tungsten (which is split between toe and heel locations and 188% more than in the previous Mavrik iron) inside golfers get the look of a tidy muscleback blade at address but with similar levels of forgiveness to a compact mid-handicap cavity back WATCH: Best 2022 Players’ Distance Iron video Callaway say their engineers have worked hard to position weight higher in the short irons and wedges and lower in the long irons so ball flight windows are optimized for maximum carry distance and control across the set Thanks to more shock absorbing urethane inside (to the height of the 6th groove) sound and feel are tuned to levels that decent players expect Designed for low-to-mid single figure handicappers Callaway say the Pro are compact and workable as well as being fast and long for the category The ST Pro is brand new for 2022 and Callaway say if you see the model as sitting between their Apex Pro and Apex 21 irons Many golfers will likely choose between the three models based on head construction which for some will likely be a sticking point within the Players’ Distance Iron category Our test pro commented on liking the feel and sound of the Pro so we reckon many club golfers are likely to not even spot the cast vs forged differential If you’re one of those players less attention to impact sound the Pro’s are a cracking set of irons and they’ll set you back less than both Apex models – hence why Callaway created them In an extremely tight category (that’s rammed full of very good irons) the ST Pro were right in the mix across our Players’ Distance Iron Test metrics without quite being an outstanding performer in any particular area We rate it among the best mid-handicap irons available How the Callaway Rogue ST Pro iron compares to other Players’ Distance Irons in data RELATED: Which 2022 Callaway Chrome Soft golf ball is best for you? Stock shaft: True Temper Elevate MPH (s) Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue or Project X Cypher (g) Forgiveness rating: 3.5 (Mid-Handicap Iron) The original Callaway Rogue X iron which launched in 2018 caused quite a stir as it’s 27° 7-iron was the strongest and longest on the market at the time Callaway have dialled back a fraction on the Max’s new loft (to 27.5°) but categorically they insist the 2022 Rogue is longer thanks to a new After tracking the impact locations of thousands of golfers all four Rogue ST irons have new high strength 450 AI cup faces but essentially also capable of flexing nearly as much as a titanium driver face (0.825 COR which is amazing considering the size and material difference Callaway say thanks to a more stable body (there’s 62g of tungsten weighting inside, which is 260% more than the previous Mavrik iron) energy transfer efficiency is improved so golfers can expect a gain of 1.5 mph in ball speed and 4.2 yards of carry distance over the previous Mavrik iron Very much a mid-handicap iron to suit a very wide audience of golfers in the right hands the Max will be the longest Rogue ST iron in 2022 Golfers talk lots about looks when it comes to irons even at this end of the scale where models are pitched at mid-handicap players But if you’re the type of golfer who can see past looks and are happy using equipment that truly benefits your game not because they were the most inspiring to look at Rogue ST Max delivers the same excellent performance in the hands of average club golfers there’s a wider top edge than much of the competition and the face has a natural tendency to want to roll shut at address those are the exact traits that up forgiveness on off centre hits and help tons of golfers eliminate weak right sided shots (for a right handed golfer) The ST was tied 2nd longest in our Best 2022 Mid-Handicap Iron Test (with the PXG 0311 XP Gen4 and TaylorMade Stealth) and was comfortably above avearge for all other test metrics How does the Callaway Rogue ST Max Iron compare to other Mid-Handicap Irons in data Stock shaft: True Temper Elevate 85g (s) Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue & Project X Cypher Forgiveness rating: 4 (Mid – High Handicap Iron) Any new four iron family can feel intimidating as there’s just so many options and choices to be considered But remember each of the new Rogue ST irons share similar base technology before each is individually tailored to a particular target golfers ability aesthetic desires and typical impact location So long as you know a bit about your ability and swing speed you should be able to discount half the family and leave yourself with a choice of two Compared to the Rogue ST Max the OS have wider soles extra hosel offset (which creates a little draw bias) and a thicker topline all of which will help boost confidence for lots of mid – high handicap players A fraction more loft (than the Rogue ST Max) helps flight shots correctly at more average speeds so approaches will still stop and hold a green All four Rogue ST sets have unique AI developed face patterns to optimize ball speed launch and spin based on the typical impact locations for their target golfer Mid to high handicap golfers will get better performance on toe side misses with the Max OS while better players will get improved results on heel side misses with the Rogue ST Pro See the Max OS as a cracking average-speed cavity back iron and one of the best irons for high-handicap players and you really won’t go too far wrong Callaway fans will know the brands game improving mid and high-handicap cast irons are usually pretty beefed up so they’re just the type of people who’ll understand and accept the extra size that up’s forgiveness when shots are sprayed across the face If you’ve seen the previous Mavrik and Rogue irons the ST Max are very much running from the same vein with offset hosels and a fast face construction We like how this new model has a little more loft (28.5deg – 7-iron) than some in the category It’s a feature most average speed players will appreciate and for those who muster less than average club speeds there’s also a Max OS Lite model to factor i to any buying decision From their slightly weaker lofts the OS weren’t quite the fastest or longest High-Handicap iron (as we’d expect) we hit this year what they are though is a very solid mix of speed descent angle plus raw power which is just what lots of average average club golfers are after How does the Callaway Rogue ST Max OS iron compare to other High-Handicap irons in data RELATED: Best Irons 2022 Forgiveness rating: 4 (High-Handicap / Moderate Swing Speed Iron) The fact the Max OS Lite is only available with graphite shafts in Women’s Lite and Regular flexes says everything you need to know about this model Callaway say the Lite is absolutely not to be labelled a ladies or senior model instead it’s the perfect cavity back for golfers who struggle for speed there’s also 3° extra 7-iron loft to ensure moderate swing speed players flight shots to stay in the air longer Maximising air-time at slower swing speeds equates to extra carry distance over the stronger lofted Max OS or Max models If your swing speed is anywhere close to moderate don’t rule the OS Lite out as the best way to more carry distance in 2022 RELATED: Which KBS iron shaft suits you? While A.I. sounds new age, the Rogue ST isn’t Callaway’s first foray into its usefulness. The company has been using a system of computer development for years — its previous Mavrik and Epic Speed families, for example, were created with A.I. assistance. The new 2022 Rogue ST drivers, however, are even smarter and more advanced. The company is now using A.I. in different ways to improve parameters such as speed, forgiveness, launch and spin, and optimizing them for different players. The goal for Callaway was to develop a line of drivers that produced more distance and stability for a variety of golfers, which meant developing each head and face individually. “It’s like what we’ve seen with Formula 1,” says Dave Neville, Callaway’s senior director of product and brand management. “We’re looking at every aspect of the whole family to make new innovations. A lot of it is industry-first tech that’s proprietary to Callaway, and that’s what makes Rogue ST so good.” Before we dive a bit deeper into the differences between the four Rogue ST heads, let’s dive into the commonalities. First off, the “ST” stands for Speed Tuned. This shows Callaway was focused on cranking up your mph. So, yes, the faces are made faster. (The back-weighted tungsten Speed Cartridge is arguably the most innovative and influential technology used in the driver clubheads.) Here’s how the structure works: A dense tungsten weight, which clocks in at around 20 to 26 grams per head, sits in a urethane structure to help drive the center of gravity (CG) rearward. The weights are slightly different depending on the individual head models, helping to put weight where it’s most optimal in each head. Overall, the heavy tungsten weight and complicated structure work to move weight away from the face and reduce twisting at impact. For golfers, that means you won’t lose as much speed on off-center shots. For additional speed and stability, Callaway has also updated its popular Jailbreak technology — a structure that sits behind the face and connects the sole to the crown. The vertical bars on the Jailbreak Speed frame in the Rogue ST are more slender, but the horizontal portions are stiffer, especially lower on the face. This helped Callaway reduce overall weight from the frame but still retain the benefits of Jailbreak at impact. The smart A.I. faces, matte carbon composite crowns and carbon sole plates are bonded to what Callaway calls a Unibody Construction, which is made of titanium. The Unibody doesn’t have uniform stiffness throughout, though. Certain sections of the body structure have been made stiffer to maximize stability at impact. Overall, each head has been designed to drive weight lower and more rearward. That’s why the back portion of the sole sits lower to the ground than in previous Epic Speed drivers, which used Callaway’s higher-sitting “Cyclone” shape and had a more forward CG. The reason for the new Rogue ST shape, according to Callaway, is to create more forgiveness and “speed robustness” for the player. The four Rogue STs differentiate as follows: Rogue ST Max: the most forgiving head in the lineup, with a slight draw bias. Rogue ST Max LS: Compared to the Max driver, the Max LS will have lower spin, more workability and a more neutral trajectory. Rogue ST Max D: a forgiving slice killer that has a built-in draw bias and upright lie angle. Rogue ST Max Triple Diamond LS: a Tour-only head shape now available to the masses — perfect for high-speed players. To find out which driver is truly right for you, we recommend going through a full fitting and trying out each of the heads with different shaft combinations. a low launching and spinning fairway wood that looked great and went straight into a lot of Mizuno Staff players' bags at The Open Championship but the ST-Max 230 is all about stability with speed although the deep face would suggest it is better suited to golfers hitting it from the tee rather than a tight lie on the turf I took it out on the course and wanted to see how it performed in real time but also alongside last year's low spinning ST-G model After just a couple of swipes I could see the difference in flight and performance As a faster swinger of the golf club and someone who naturally creates a lot of spin the ST-G did perform better for me when struck off a tee that’s not to say there was anything wrong with the ST-Max 230 It felt as good as I would expect a Mizuno fairway wood to feel through impact and produced a solid 'thud' as the face collided with the ball It did produce a fairly high ball flight that did become a little difficult to control as the wind picked up but there is the option of an adjustable hosel to lower the loft on the clubhead for those that want to see a lower trajectory It was from the fairway and even the first cut of rough where the ST-Max 230 fairway wood excelled That high ball flight I saw from the tee was also evident when struck from the fairway which actually surprised me given my concerns on the depth of the face Mizuno has also incorporated what they are calling ‘Speed Bevel’ to the ST-Max 230 - a modification to the leading edge to improve turf interaction and maintain speed from shots struck from the fairway.  While there was nothing that blew me away about this fairway wood the Mizuno ST-Max 230 is a really solid option that will work for golfers of all abilities particularly those who play on longer golf courses and hit their fairway woods regularly from the deck or those who have slightly slower swing speeds and seek additional height from their fairway woods The Mizuno ST-Max 230 fairway wood is available in 15°,18° and 21° loft options and comes to retail with a price tag of $300 or £269 Subscribe to the Golf Monthly newsletter to stay up to date with all the latest tour news head-to-heads and buyer’s guides from our team of experienced experts offering advice on equipment to all levels of golfers Sam heads up any content around fairway woods putters and golf balls but also writes about other equipment from time to time.Sam graduated from Webber International University in 2017 with a BSc Marketing Management degree while playing collegiate golf His experience of playing professionally on both the EuroPro Tour and Clutch Pro Tour means Sam has extensive knowledge of golf equipment and what works for different types of golfer Sam’s current What’s In The Bag Driver: TaylorMade Qi35 9° Irons: TaylorMade CB (6-PW) P770 (4-5) Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM10 Putter: Kevin Burns 9307 Ball: Titleist Pro V1x University of Notre Dame Church Life Journal A Journal of the McGrath Institute for Church Life More than one concentration camp survivor has remarked that one would need the pen of Dante to describe the horrors that afflicted the “great army of unknown and unrecorded victims.”[1] Hell is that abyss that skews vision and slurs speech It shreds human community by erasing all marks of personal identity by eviscerating of all bonds of human communion—trust to empty them of what makes us most human – the free will to love Auschwitz-Birkenau would certainly top the list The Nazi camp stands as an icon of the ruthlessness of indifference mimicking human community as it sought to strip its inhabitants of humanity Camp prisoners were divested of everything the Nazis confiscated all their clothing and possessions even amid one of darkest periods of history ordinary and extraordinary men and women endured the daily indignity of camp life with hope and love Men and women who had been stripped of everything swampy town in the southwest Polish town of Oswiecim and it lay at the heart of Nazi-occupied Europe A barbed wire fence containing 220-volts of electricity was flung around the camp’s perimeter when the first prisoners arrived on June 14 These men were put to work digging ditches and laying railway track and water pipes under the watchful eye of their captors Into “this Golgotha of the modern world" came St His enormous heart had been trained for mercy through a life of sacrifice and in the midst of an evil so dark it was nearly all-consuming which he frequently reminded others has little to do with sentimentality as it “has nothing to do with sweet tears and sentiments but is a matter of a free will which holds fast to love even despite our aversion and hesitancy,” as John Paul II said during his papal visit to Auschwitz in 1979 he was a sign of mercy in a place where mercilessness hung as thick as fog Maximilian’s life was plunged into the mystery of Christ through Mary Kolbe’s soul never ceased to proclaim the greatness of the Lord even amidst great suffering his conformity to the Sacred Heart of her Son through her means that we can apply Pope Benedict XVI’s affirmation of Mary on the Feast of the Assumption in 2005 to St Mary was . . . ‘at home’ with God’s word, she was penetrated by God’s word. To the extent that she spoke with God’s words, she thought with God’s words, her thoughts were God’s thoughts, her words, God’s words. . . She lived on the Word of God, she was imbued with the Word of God.[8] All of these things can be said of him, too. Nurtured in the School of Mary, Fr. Kolbe lived the mysteries of Christ’s death with such intensity that we can really say with John Paul II that in “this Golgotha of the modern world,” Fr. Maximilian “won a spiritual victory like that of Christ himself.”[9] of his childhood was confirmed over a life of practice He made himself ready for the gift of martyrdom through the daily practice of attuning his heart to Christ through the Immaculata until the day came when he could freely offer himself as a sacrifice of love for another exposing the lie of the concentration camp So efficiently cruel and so systematically dehumanizing was Nazi exercise of power that it even involved its victims in the machinations of destruction Nazis enlisted concentration camp inmates as spies effectively isolating people from one another in fear Maximilian disrupted evil’s insidious logic For the saint exposes the lie of evil by breaking the chain of its transmission The saint insists on the logic of creation which makes space within itself for another Accepting the crowns offered to him as a child Kolbe entrusted his love for Christ and His Sacred Heart to Mary and declared his desire to live and die for the Immaculata The sacrifice of his whole life and the manner of his death affirmed the words of the Apostle John: “By this we know love And we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (1 Jn 3:16) Born a subject of Czar Nicholas II in the town of Zdunska Wola on January 8 The second of five sons born to the poor Polish weavers only three of whom would survive to adulthood in his sketches we find designs for etherplanes and compound telegraphs Education under the czar was expensive and much of the population remained illiterate A family that was able to educate one child was considered fortunate unable to send all of their sons to school Raymond remained at home to help his parents run their modest shop and to care for his younger siblings and after attending a mission given by the Franciscans Raymond and his older brother Francis disguised themselves as farmers and crossed into Austria in order to study at the Franciscan minor seminary in Lwow The country had not existed political or geographical reality since it was partitioned between 1772-1795 Brother Maximilian was sent to Rome to study at the Order’s seminary and at the Pontifical Gregorian University he would receive two doctorates – one in philosophy his classmates and professors recalled his sensitivity and his devotion to Mary and the Eucharist he had often drawn up military plans and at one point planned to leave the Franciscans to join the fight for Polish independence take a leave of absence from the order to enlist in the military In a letter written to his mother during his studies in Rome dated April 20 he remembers the unexpected visit from his mother that had prevented him from leaving the order nearly a decade before: as you can imagine with great consolation as well as sadness He was the first to ask to be received into the Order Together we approached for the fist time for Holy Communion St. Maximilian’s life, his suffering, and his death is, so to speak, a meditation on the mystery of faith hidden within the title Immaculate Conception.[13] Promulgated under Pius IX in 1854 the dogma of Immaculate Conception was defined a mere forty years prior to Raymond’s birth dates back to antiquity and was strenuously defended by the famed Franciscan theologian Duns Scotus a series of Marian apparitions occurred at Lourdes culminating in our Lady’s answer given to St Bernadette’s repeated plea to the Lady to reveal her name to her: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” marrying his devotion to the Immaculata with his tactical gifts Maximilian set about waging war on indifference The strategy: to set the entire world ablaze with love of Christ through the universal mediation of Mary Immaculate he joyfully mediated upon the Immaculata even as he awaited his final arrest on February 17 because He is always and eternally begotten of the Father He is the fruit of the love of the Father and of the Son The fruit of created love is a created conception He is the prototype of any conception in the live of the universe woven into the love of the Most Blessed Trinity becomes from the first moment of her existence eternally forever the ‘complement to the Most Holy Trinity.’ but the first one of them is all the love of the Most Holy Trinity while the second is all the love of creation all Uncreated Love with all created love; it is the highest expression of love At Lourdes, the Immaculata did not say of herself that she had been conceived immaculately, but, as Bernadette repeated it, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” . . . The Holy Spirit dwells in her, lives in her.[15] comes from the Father through the Holy Spirit and becomes incarnate in the hallowed space under Mary’s heart the Sacred Heart of the child dwells and she carries within her the fullness of God Jesus Christ is flesh of her flesh and bone of her bones the Word of God descends into the womb of Immaculata Maximilian’s heart burned with the desire to become a Son of Mary to become alter Christus – another Christ and to bring a world ravaged by war to the tender Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculata Brother Maximilian and six other Conventual Franciscans which Pope Benedict XV blessed a year and a half later on March 28 was and is to “extend as much as possible the very gentle Kingdom of the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary Immaculate”—to spread the civilization of love Maximilian did not hesitate to use any means at his disposal to fulfill this mission Kolbe set about forming groups of Militia Immaculata and establishing a printing press Despite the massive post-war devastation that afflicted the fledgling country he was successful not only in founding the Marian newspaper but grew the publication at a time when others were folding With the help of a small contingent of fellow Franciscans Maximilian published the first issue of the Knight in 1922 Kolbe founded Niepokalanow (City of Mary) near Warsaw The original community included two priests and eighteen friars but by 1938 had become the largest friary in the world with nearly 800 members operating the largest printing press in Central Europe Meanwhile the Militia of the Immaculata had close to 700,000 members in Poland alone and several hundred thousand additional members abroad Maximilian had traveled to India and China and established a mission in Japan His goal: to establish a ring of Marian centers around the globe Maximilian did was animated by his desire to be reborn in the form of Christ in the heart of Mary His contemplation of Mary was remembering in the deepest biblical sense; for to remember (zakar) is to make present the events of salvation—to live the mysteries of faith—to live the mysteries of Love he expresses his desire to love without limits the Gestapo arrived at the City of Mary to arrest Fr Rufin Majdan later recalled that Maximilian dressed in his good habit that was normally reserved for holy days “Praised be Jesus Christ.” He calmly set about giving the Third Reich officers a tour He was transported to Pawiak Prison until his transfer to Auschwitz at the end of May 1941 along with 320 other prisoners Like millions of others herded under the cynical sign: “Work Leads to Freedom,” Fr and he was stripped of his name and given the number #16670 Indifference begins with the erasure of all signs of humanity the Third Reich was efficient at eroding all humanizing features of the men and children brought there to work and to die Into a place where ruthless indifference stifled communion, Fr. Maximilian made his body a space for mercy. He heard confessions made in whispers at night. He held secret conferences throughout June and July of 1941, instructing others in the lives of the saints and martyrs. Though sick himself, he often gave his rations away. He reminded fellow inmate Joseph Stemler “Hate is not creative; only love is creative.”[23] Where evil had eroded human dignity Where evil declared that there is no mercy Maximilian’s ascent to Golgotha made room for a burning expansiveness of love whose pierced side makes a space in his body for us to enter his Sacred Heart Maximilian’s body became a space of quiet joy in the dense fog of evil but did not pass on the hatred and indifference that spread and circulated like cancer God transplanted a rose—in a man who lived in the palm of the Blessed Mother Because he was formed in the memory of Love to fulfill his commandment: “Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself” (Mt 22:37–8) In dying he affirmed the value of every human life because sum up the logic of indifference as the refusal of another’s gaze Like Dante’s depiction of the lowest circles of hell where even light becomes an offensive intrusion into one’s space In Cell 18 of Block 11—the hunger block—Fr until after about two weeks the Nazis decided they were taking too long to die Animated by the desire to sow the fruit of hate Valuing the space of Cell 18 more than the bodies within it the SS ordered that Maximilian be killed by a lethal injection of carbolic acid was incinerated in the crematorium the following day In a letter to his younger brother and fellow Franciscan dated April 28, 1919, Kolbe writes that there is “a very serious epidemic of indifference.”[28] It remains so in our own age Indifference breaks the bonds of communion Indifference hardens our hearts; it makes us less merciful Euphemism upon euphemism programmatically obscures both human dignity and the brutality that erodes it all the while collapsing the possibility of love the Strong Man is exposed as the idiot whose tale Maximilian the words of the Psalmist became a reality: you knit me in my mother’s womb (Ps 139: 8; 12–13) In the face of the poison of indifference we are called to love without limit Maximilian Kolbe’s childhood fiat was confirmed through a life of joyful sacrifice that was sealed in his death because the good God is in every place and with great love He thinks about everyone and everything It would be best not to write to me before I send you another letter because I do not know how long I will remain here With warm greetings and kisses, Raymond Kolbe[30]  [1] Viktor Frankl [2] Pope Saint John Paul II, Apostolic Pilgrimage to Poland: Homily at Auschwitz-Bierkenau (June 7 [3] Ibid. to the best afield in the VFL on the weekend and is in line for promotion against Collingwood who have been hit by injuries and may look at three forced changes has played only once at senior level this year – in round 10 against North Melbourne Essendon midfielder Dylan Shiel.Credit: AFL Photos He was sidelined over summer after foot surgery Shiel is an excellent chance to be promoted into the senior side this week against Collingwood according to a club source speaking on the condition of anonymity ahead of the team being selected who showed precocious talent against the Eagles in round 15 is also a chance for promotion by the Dons depending on the mix of talls in attack and the ruckman that Brad Scott settles on having used Sam Draper in attack occasionally and in a ruck tandem with veteran Todd Goldstein Collingwood coach Craig McRae said Brayden Maynard (corked thigh) had done enough at training to take his place in the side on Friday night but Josh Daicos (calf) is highly doubtful for Friday night having been restricted and running with a limp at training But McRae said defender Maynard had done “more than enough” and would play mid-season draft selection Ned Long will make his debut for the side The 194-centimetre inside midfielder played five games in the brown and gold after being initially drafted by Hawthorn with pick five in the 2022 rookie draft He now gets his chance on the big stage for Collingwood after playing six games at VFL level since being chosen in the mid-season draft with pick 19 McRae said the elder Daicos brother looked “proppy” but had not been ruled out yet he still looks a little proppy for my eyes but I’m getting told that we’ll give him every opportunity,” McRae said “So we’ll give him every chance to get to the line.” The obvious move for the Magpies would be to promote small forward/wingman Joe Richards from the sub into the 22 and they will regain small forward Lachie Schultz as a replacement for the injured Beau McCreery (calf strain) They also have to find a replacement for small defender John Noble who suffered a concussion in the final quarter against Gold Coast St Kilda will need to rejig their forward line with Max King to miss the rest of the season after scans showed he suffered a tear to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee just after half-time of Sunday’s match against Port Adelaide Forward ruck Rowan Marshall kicked three goals against Port Adelaide sharing ruck duties with Tom Campbell while Tim Membrey could be elevated from the VFL Zaine Cordy could also create a contest up forward while Mattaes Phillipou could slot into a smaller forwardline after kicking two goals and gathering 31 touches for the Zebras with Anthony Caminiti - who has been playing in defence - in doubt with an ankle injury The Saints praised King for his effort to play out the second half with the injury to his left knee as the Saints went down in a nail-biter by two points and said they were confident he would bounce back as a long-term player for St Kilda Max King received heavy criticism for his performance on SundayCredit: AFL Photos via Getty Images He will be in a brace for three weeks before starting his rehabilitation process but he has avoided surgery The star forward had received heavy external criticism for his performance against the Power after he went goalless was outmarked and was unable to get to contests late in the game however internally the Saints praised his effort to stay on the field while injured St Kilda football manager David Misson said the injury was to the same knee that forced King out of two matches earlier in the season but they believed the injuries were unrelated “It’s a credit to Max’s commitment to his teammates that he played out the game on Sunday it’s important we now give his knee some time to rest and recover,” Misson said “While this will see Max miss the rest of the season and this course of action will place him in the best possible position to attack pre-season.” Misson said he reminded King that Carlton star Charlie Curnow missed nearly two years of football with a knee injury before returning to win back to back Coleman Medals and the club was rapt to have him “We feel that Max is a long-term player at St Kilda,” he said “I spoke to him on the phone earlier and cited Charlie Curnow’s history who played 15 games in three years and virtually missed two seasons with knee injuries “But we’re really confident that he’s going to overcome those and he’s going to be a long-term established player for this football club “They (contract talks) have started and we are in talks and we’re really pleased with the way they’re going but we’re not at a stage yet to announce anything.” King has endured shoulder injuries in the past two seasons as he attempts to realise his talent after suffering an ACL injury to his right knee in the year he was drafted to St Kilda with pick four in the 2018 national draft King has kicked 159 goals in 83 matches but has only played 23 matches in the past two seasons after kicking 52 goals in 2022 but they are battling to score from or defend stoppages with Port Adelaide dominating centre bounces in the first half on Sunday King kicked the matchwinner against the Gold Coast with most of his goals coming from set shots but he has struggled to become a leading target inside 50 The prospect of Tigers star Dustin Martin ending his career at the Gold Coast under premiership coach Damien Hardwick remains alive after the former Richmond coach said his club would be mad not to consider whether a Brownlow medallist could add to their team who attracted 90,000 fans to the MCG for his 300th game in round 14 is an unrestricted free agent who remains unsigned beyond 2024 Dustin Martin was subbed off in the Tigers’ clash with the Blues.Credit: Getty Images He has given no indication as to what he plans to do in 2025 with retirement or exploring his options at other clubs all possible avenues Hardwick said the recently turned 33-year-old’s decision on his future would determine what happened next “Dustin’s a contracted player at Richmond [until the end of 2024] That’s obviously for Dustin to decide and Richmond to work their way through,” he said and every single club would be crazy if they didn’t sit there and at some stage make an assessment.” Those list management calls will get made at the back-end of the year.” Martin is a mega-celebrity in football obsessed Melbourne and could be interested in continuing his career up north having won three flags and three Norm Smith medals at Richmond who are improving rapidly under Hardwick as their list matures would need to determine how much good football Martin has in him if he made the move given he has been a long way off his stunning best in 2024 Neither party would be in a position to make such a decision until after the season Gary Ablett junior was only a month younger than Martin is now when he returned from the Suns to play with Geelong in 2018 although he was returning to his former club Ablett was not at his best in his final three seasons at the Suns but played a significant role at Geelong when he returned with 55 games in three years Martin is in doubt to play against Fremantle in Perth this Saturday after suffering a back spasm against Carlton on Sunday Essendon\\u2019s at Mizuno's entry into the super stable Directly competing with the TaylorMade Qi10 Max and the Ping G430 Max 10K drivers is a brave play but Mizuno have produced a very competitive product The classy looks will appeal to many and the sophisticated impact feel will please the purists but that will be music to many players' ears Entering that market is the Mizuno ST-MAX 230 driver promising to be Mizuno’s most stable driver ever I would be wondering whether I had a spy in my R&D department if I were running TaylorMade as it seems that all three have essentially achieved the same thing in the same way Mizuno has lowered the profile of the ST-Max head to accommodate spreading and increasing the overall footprint of the driver head whilst staying within the maximum permitted 460cc head size this has allowed Mizuno to add weight in more extreme locations to increase that all important MOI number which is essentially a measure of a clubhead's resistance to twisting this takes the form of a very hefty 54 grams of internal back weighting.  Mizuno has chosen not to put a number on this MOI measurement whereas Ping and TaylorMade have gone as far as naming their drivers after it Other technology Mizuno have added in the ST-Max 230 includes a new face that it is referring to as Beta Rich Ti LFS Mizuno say that it is lighter and faster than previous iterations Mizuno has increased the standard playing length of the ST-Max 230 driver to 45.75 inches to help with the production of clubhead speed It feels comfortable that the forgiving design of the head allows this as off center strikes should not suffer as severe punishment In terms of the looks, much like other drivers in the Mizuno range such as the ST-G I don’t know whether it is down to the sophisticated color scheme or the materials used but Mizuno does seem to have the knack when it comes to creating great looking driver heads.  looking much bigger than its 460cc dimensions although not as extreme as the Ping G430 Max 10K for example The face sits very square and the additional footprint really does inspire confidence at address From a feel and sound standpoint, I really like this driver. The impact feel is more subtle than some of the other most forgiving drivers on the market and the audio follows suit Loud enough to let you know you have struck something very powerful but not so loud as to offend other range users impact seems to last a fraction of a second longer which is a really nice sensation with ball speed sitting almost directly between its two aforementioned main rivals it must be said that the TaylorMade Qi10 Max has been built as standard at 45.5 inches which is quarter of an inch shorter than both the Mizuno and Ping equivalents which will affect clubhead speed and subsequently ball speed Spin rates were a little higher in the ST-Max and this is very player dependent as to whether this is good or bad news but it certainly added to the overall dispersion story I set myself an imaginary fairway using flags on the outfield of the practice ground that to my eye looked around 25 yards wide I only clearly missed this fairway with 11 balls There were another 3 that were probably borderline but I gave myself the benefit of the doubt on those An 89% fairway statistic is one I would be very happy with this isn’t entirely reflective of course play as you get in a rhythm hitting the same shot over and over again The higher spin rate did take its toll on my overall distance output which was a little way behind the Ping driver but it could certainly still be described as competitive in the category and for someone with different speed and launch conditions to me this added spin might actually increase distance high MOI drivers is a very interesting one this year and the Mizuno ST-Max 230 driver should certainly be in the conversation for those shopping in this market The Mizuno ST-Max 230 driver retails at $500/£499 and I think this represents decent value for a very solid and great looking driver After a successful amateur career being involved in England squads at every age group Joe completed his PGA degree qualification in 2014 as one of the top ten graduates in his training year and subsequently went on to become Head PGA Professional at Ryder Cup venue The Celtic Manor Resort Equipment has always been a huge passion of Joe’s he headed up the National Fitting Centres for both Titleist and Taylormade He’s excited to bring his knowledge of hardware to Golf Monthly in the form of equipment reviews and buying advice Joe lives in North Devon and still plays sporadically on the PGA West region circuit His best round in recent years came earlier in 2023 where he managed a 9 under par 63 at Trevose GC in a Devon & Cornwall PGA Tournament Driver: Switch between TaylorMade Qi35 and Callaway Elyte TD - both with Fujikura Ventus Black 6-X Fairway wood 1: TaylorMade BRNR Copper Mini Driver - Fujikura Ventus Black 7-X Fairway wood 2: Callaway Apex UW 17˚- Fujikura Ventus Black 9-X Irons: TaylorMade P7CB 3-PW with Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts Former Saint's Pro-Bowl offensive lineman has been making the most of his time in retirement by shedding the extra weight needed to be a dominant center in the NFL The Saints put out the information from their Twitter account today @Saints He is probably walking around right now feeling incredible after succesful years of keeping his weight up to go against NFL defenses centers are often times not only the smartest guy on the offensive line but sometimes the smartest guy on the team too The center for my high school football team was also the valedictorian of his class The Center on an offensive line is integral to the success of an offense which is why often times they can be smaller guys who need to bulk up for the role The case of Unger's 60 pound weight loss in just over a year leads me to believe he was one of those smaller guys who needed to add on extra weight in order to be able to succeed against the monsters that make up NFL defenses Unger has spent his retirement so far slimming down as he no longer needs to be able to move massive of men around the Superdome while protecting Drew Brees and co Congratulations to Unger on his weight loss and also on his fantastic professional football career Former Saint's Pro-Bowl offensive lineman, Max Unger, has been making the most of his time in retirement by shedding the extra weight needed to be a dominant center in the NFL.\nRead More In an interview with local reporters today, former Saint Max Unger said he has lost 60 pounds since he retired in March of 2019 #Saints pic.twitter.com/HyGVKxka3M The Mizuno ST-Max 230 Hybrid has a speed bevel on the leading edge to help with turf interaction Sam De'Ath on the course with the Mizuno ST-Max 230 Hybrid Should you consider adding the Mizuno ST-Max 230 hybrid to your bag Sam De’Ath puts it to the test to find out The Mizuno ST-Maz 230 is a hybrid option worth considering for any golfer looking to upgrade The classic Mizuno look remains while small refinements have improved the forgiveness compared to its predecessor Ball speed is marginally down compared to some competitors Still compact and with a classic shape at address Mizuno has set about to produce a hybrid that offers the best performance in a number of key areas It is a larger head than the previous model but is certainly not one of the largest on the market and will maintain its appeal to the more confident ball striker The MAS1C steel face has been expanded by a larger Cortech Chamber on the sole than previous models to improve ball speed consistency But it is the change to the leading edge that I felt really enhanced my enjoyment and performance with the ST-Max 230 hybrid While I can’t categorically say this technology helped me from the first cut of rough I did hit one of the cleanest fairway bunker shots I have ever hit with the ST-Max 230 thanks to that leading edge not digging into the sand The deeply positioned CG (Center of Gravity) made possible from the weight saving on the carbon crown meant the ST-Max 230 hybrid produced an extremely high ball flight perfect for hitting into long par fours or having a crack at a par-five green in two This high spinning ball flight did see me lose a little yardage compared to some the market leaders in this category especially into the wind but only by three to four yards on average The 19° model I tested still saw carry distances reach 236 yards It should be said that the stock UST Mamiya Linq shaft was probably a little soft for my particular swing speed which would have exaggerated the height of the trajectory All in all the Mizuno ST-Max 230 is certainly a hybrid golfers looking to upgrade the top end of their bag should check out and consider there weren't many better models I tested this year that will help you than the ST-Max 230 The adjustable hosel did mean you could knock some loft and spin off so for those golfers who swing it slightly faster or want a touch more distance this option undoubtedly enhances the overall versatility on offer from this club If you would like to buy Mizuno equipment, check out our handpicked Mizuno discount codes
