New traffic rules are now in force on key roads in Ile-de-France
ahead of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics
with fines of €135 issued to drivers who do not comply
The roads are called ‘VROP’: voies réservées olympiques et paralympiques (lanes reserved for the Olympics and Paralympics)
They are marked with the ‘Paris 2024’ logo
both on the roads themselves and on road signs
Other lanes on these roads remain open for vehicles as normal
The establishment of these lanes was one of the commitments made by organisers when bidding for the Games to take place in Paris
The goal is that athletes will be able to reach all competition venues within 30 minutes’ drive of the Olympic Village in Saint-Denis

Only vehicles with prior authorisation will be permitted to use these lanes
Official taxis (except ride-sharing vehicles such as Ubers)
Public transport vehicles used to transport people with reduced mobility
The Organising Committee has said that 22,000 authorisations have been issued
Any type of vehicle that does not have prior authorisation
The Paris Police Prefecture has confirmed that the affected roads include:
and Rue de Rivoli will be affected for the same dates
between Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle and Porte de la Chapelle
between Rocquencourt and Montigny-le-Bretonneux
and again from August 27 to September 8.
between Collégien and Saint-Thibault-des-Vignes
Full details of all the roads affected, including the dates and the specific section of road, can be found on the Journal Officiel website here
Police will be checking the roads and vehicles along each of the routes
with teams organised by the CRS Autoroutes and the Préfecture de Police
Unauthorised vehicles using one of these reserved lanes will be liable to a fine of €135
“The use of an Olympic lane by a non-accredited vehicle can cause major disruption to the running of the events and to the smooth running of the Games as a whole,” said the Paris Police Prefecture
Most of the lanes will go back to normal after the Games
but some will be retained as ‘legacy routes (héritages)’
and will be reserved for public transport vehicles and car-sharing (carpooling) vehicles by 2025.

Seine-et-Marne
like all the other departments in the Paris region
has planned a rich program of discoveries and events for the relay of the Olympic flame in its territory
The Flame will continue its journey to Pontault-Combault, the department's fourth largest city, before criss-crossing the towns of Lagny-sur-Marne and Torcy. It will make a stopover in Melun, then in Vaires-sur-Marne
where it will illuminate the nautical base
the venue for future Olympic canoeing androwing competitions
The route continues to Chelles, passing through the medieval town of Provins
It will stop near the Caesar tower and ramparts
where a variety of activities will transport us into a veritable time machine
with events planned to transport us back in time
thanks to its historic towers and ramparts
The day ends in Meaux, where you can enjoy the Pâtis park and taste the famous Brie de Meaux. The Musée de la Grande Guerre will also offer opportunities for cultural discovery
The flame will travel along the quays to the island before crossing the Pont Foch
The day will end with a ceremony at the Georges Tauziet sports complex
bringing the Olympic Flame's journey through Seine-et-Marne to a festive close
entertainment and a DJ evening are on the program for the final venue
Please note that the times shown are approximate and subject to change depending on the organization and the hazards of the route
The flame not only symbolizes unity and diversity
but also reflects Seine-et-Marne's passion and commitment to sport and culture
It will be an opportunity for residents and visitors to actively participate in the Olympic spirit
strengthening the bond between generations and the different cultures present in the département. In Seine-et-Marne
six residents have been chosen by the Département to carry the illustrious Olympic Flame
from diverse backgrounds such as top-level sport
share a common passion for sport and Olympic values
Each and every one of them, through their careers and achievements, embodies the values of Olympism and shows that the sporting spirit can truly lead to extraordinary achievements. They are a source of inspiration to us all, and emblematic figures for Seine-et-Marne during this Olympic period
The torch relayroute in Seine-et-Marne promises to be a memorable event
So we're getting ready all over the department to set up along the route and support the torchbearers in what promises to be an exceptional atmosphere
we won't be missing the festive closing ceremony in Meaux (Brie de Meaux is a must!)

A natural disaster - catastrophe naturelle - has been recognised in five Dordogne communes and 24 areas in Nord
following floods and droughts occurring this and last year
If the government declares a catastrophe naturelle for an area in its official legal publication
people whose property has been damaged by the event must make a claim within 10 calendar days from publication of the decree
Natural disaster coverage is a compulsory component of standard multi-risk house insurance and so companies will be compelled to cover any damage directly linked to the event as long as a claim is made within the deadline
Indirect costs – such as the cost of rehousing and loss of earnings – are not covered unless mentioned in the insurance contract
You can normally open a claim by telephone
Supporting documents can be sent after the 10-day deadline as long as the process has already been initiated
Claimants will need to provide a description of the damage
a list of lost or damaged items and where possible
proof of ownership and value such as bills and photographs
There is no extension of the 10-day deadline for second-home owners
but some second-home insurance policies will allow for an expert to visit your property and assess the damage if you were away when the natural disaster occurred
Vitrac and Sarlat-la-Canéda are subject to catastrophe naturelle measures after the flooding and mudslides which affected the area between September 8 and 10
A decree was published in Le Journal officiel on September 26
storm damage caused between September 8 and 9 was particularly severe
with repair works on the RD704 road still in progress
Residents and second-home owners can find out more about what they need to do by calling Lilian Gilet from the town’s mairie on 05 53 31 53 08
Several other departments affected by these extreme weather conditions are detailed in this Journal officiel decree
18 communes in Nord department were affected by ground movements linked to drought
For weather events taking place between April 1 and September 30:
a further six towns suffered floods and mudslides following heavy rain
These weather conditions caused considerable damage to homes and businesses
Decrees were published in Le Journal officiel on September 26 and 28
a natural disaster has not been recognised in Halluin after the town was affected by heavy rains on June 4
