Sophomore (2024-25)Rudy Sautron rewrote the Nebraska record book in his first season with the Huskers in 2024-25. The sophomore from Reunion Island, France, set the Nebraska season stroke average record (71.70) while helping Nebraska set the team single-season stroke average record (288.38).
One of the top freshmen in NCAA Division II in 2023-24, Sautron produced the most impressive career-opening performance in Nebraska history by tying the Husker sophomore 54-hole record with a 208 (-5) on his way to an individual tournament title at the season-opening Gopher Invitational (Sept. 8-9).
Sautron held off Noah Kumar from Rutgers by one stroke on the par-71, 7,586-yard layout at the Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn., to help Nebraska to a third-place team finish in a strong 15-team field. Sautron's effort in Minnesota included a first-round eagle on No. 18, helping him finish with three consecutive rounds better than par (69-70-69) on his way to matching Brady Schnell (2004-05) and Seth Porter (1999-2000) for the best score by a sophomore (208) in Nebraska history.
Sautron was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week (Sept. 12) for his performance in Minnesota. He followed with a 221 (+8) to tie for 38th at Nebraska's Git-R-Done Invitational (Sept. 23-24). He was NU's No. 4 finisher in the lineup with rounds of 71, 75 and 75 on the par-71, 7,003-yard layout at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln.
He closed the fall with another record-setting performance, firing a school-record 63 (-9) in the final round of the Steelwood Collegiate to tie his own sophomore school record with a 208 (-8). Sautron finished with his third top-10 showing of the season by tying for sixth on the par-72, 7,096-yard layout of the Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala. His record-setting final round included a pair of eagles to give him five during the fall season.
Sautron's final-round 63 in Alabama broke the previous Nebraska record of 64 set by PGA touring pro Brady Schnell at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in 2005-06. It also broke Schnell's sophomore record 65 in 2004-25.
Sautron notched his second top-25 finish as a Husker by tying for 15th at the Badger Invitational in Verona, Wis. (Sept. 29-Oct. 1). He closed with a 54-hole total of 216 (E) with consistent rounds of 72, 71 and 73 on a par-72, 7,286-yard layout at the University Ridge Golf Course. He was Nebraska's No. 2 finisher in Wisconsin, trailing Hamish Murray by just one shot.
He added his second top-five finish as a Husker by tying for third with a 213 (+3) to lead the Huskers to a third-place finish in a loaded 13-team field at the Qubein Cup (Oct. 14-15). Sautron produced rounds of 69, 74 and 70 on a par-70, 7,130-yard layout at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Sautron opened the spring ranked No. 77 nationally, before playing two rounds at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate in Humacao, Puerto Rico (Feb. 9-11). Sautron, who battled illness during the tournament, did not compete in the second round after opening with a 76 (+4). He closed with a 73 (+1) on the 7,122-yard Flamboyan Course at Palmas Del Mar Country Club.
Sautron bounced back with his fourth top-10 finish of the season by tying for eighth in the weather-shortened Johnnie-O at Sea Island in St. Simons Island, Ga. (March 17-18). Despite strong winds, Sautron shot an even-par 70 on the 6,933-yard layout of the Sea Island Course on St. Patrick's Day, before closing with a 69 (-1) on March 18.
He continued his excellent play by notching his sixth top-25 finish of the season with a tie for 12th in an 88-player field at the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate in Litchfield Park, Ariz. (March 24-25). Sautron's three-round total of 212 (-4) included a second-round 67 (-5) on the par-72, 7,021-yard layout of the Gold Course at Wigwam Resort. Sautron helped the Huskers to a third-place team finish in a 16-team field with a season-best 849 (-15) team total.
Sautron again helped the Huskers to a third-place team finish at the Tiger Intercollegiate (April 7-8). He battled to a tie for 55th at 222 (+12) in a 99-player field, including a second-round 66 (-4). He opened with his worst round of the season 82 on the par-70, 7,158-yard layout of the The Club at Old Hawthorne before bouncing back with his 10th round under par of the season. He closed with a 74.
He helped Nebraska to a season-best second-place team finish with his final-round 68 (-3) at the Robert Kepler Invitational (April 18-19). Sautron opened with a 74 on the par-71, 7,455-yard layout of the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, before having his second round vacated by a technicality.
He closed his first season at Nebraska by tying for 50th with a 54-hole score of 211 (+11) at the Big Ten Championship in Baltimore, Md. (April 25-27). Sautron opened with a 69 (-1), before managing a 73 (+3) in the second round. He ended the tournament with a 79 (+9) on the Five Farms East Course at the Baltimore Country Club.
Sautron 71.70 stroke average over 30 rounds in 2024-25 is also Nebraska's career stroke average record. He produced two top-five finishes, four top-10 showings and six top-25 finishes over 11 events. He also recorded six of Nebraska's 15 eagles on the season, while also losing an eagle in the second round with an invalid scorecard at Ohio State.
