Dassault Aviation inaugurated the extension of its Seclin plant (Nord département)
These additional 13,000 m2 house ultra-modern equipment enabling the teams of engineers
technicians and workers to carry out the new tasks entrusted to the plant under the company’s transformation plan
Seclin is the Dassault Aviation plant furthest upstream in the industrial cycle and is responsible for manufacturing machined and formed aluminum and titanium primary parts for the Company’s civil and military aircraft
The extension works lasted from early 2018 to mid-2019
They were followed by the equipment installation phase
The new workshops are devoted to surface treatment and sheet metal work previously carried out at Argenteuil
The total surface area of the Seclin site now stands at 50,000 m2
The work has also helped to improve the plant’s environmental footprint
particularly by the replacement of chemical machining with a unique “12-axis” machining process
Several industrial facilities have also been equipped with energy recovery systems
our Seclin plant has succeeded in reconciling man and machine
the most traditional working practices and the most advanced robots
the most noble metallurgy trades and the most innovative processes in aeronautics
the large-scale investments in recent years have led to a significant rise in manpower: we had 300 employees in 2018
The eventual target is a total of 700 staff in 2025
The skills and industrial resources brought together here are among the best in Europe
Eric Trappier presided over the inauguration ceremony alongside plant director Emmanuel Maygnan
in the presence of the Secretary General of the Nord prefecture
the Senator for the Nord département Frédéric Marchand
the President of the Hauts-de-France region Xavier Bertrand
the President of Métropole Européenne de Lille Damien Castelain
as well as delegations from the municipalities of Seclin
including the Director of UIMM (union of metallurgical industries and trades) for the Nord département
With over 10,000 military and civil aircraft (including 2,500 Falcons) delivered in more than 90 countries over the last century
Dassault Aviation has built up expertise recognized worldwide in the design
to the high-end Falcon family of business jets
Dassault Aviation reported revenues of €7.2 billion

It’s hardly a hot take that social media can be a disgusting place
That’s particularly true for women and girls
and threatened with sexual and other violence
in ways that affect their sense of emotional well-being and safety
A new Quebec-made documentary, Backlash: Misogyny in the Digital Age
works too hard to shock and confront us with this ugliness
at times in ways that risks distracting from its message
Thus, the film is packaged with a horror movie poster: suspenseful music, staged scenarios, and offensive words blasted on the screen at regular intervals. At least the English title, a nod to Susan Faludi’s 1991 book, Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women
is more subtle than the original French title
focusing on four women from different countries who have been through the social media fire and are willing to speak about it
along with other women in teacher’s college
was harassed for years by a male classmate and now teaches classes in online bullying
There’s also Italian politician Laura Boldrini
who faced thousands of threats for her pro-feminist
and was forced to sue a mayor for saying online that she should be raped
who describes the fear and emotional toll of receiving more than 40,000 hate messages after posting a video condemning street harassment
Misogyny joins racism in the case of African-American politician Kiah Morris
who was driven from her job as a Vermont congresswoman
The film also includes an interview with Glen Canning
who recounts the heartrending story of his teenaged daughter Rehtaeh Parsons
who took her life in 2013 following 15 months of social media harassment after photos of her sexual assault were posted online
The main takeaway here is that online abuse is not simply the ravings of twisted individuals
but often part of systematic campaigns of terror
designed to frighten and silence women in positions of influence and power
These campaigns are abetted by the failure of governments and police forces to take online threats seriously and by social media companies
Although Backlash is light on statistical information or historical perspective
three academics interviewed in the film focus on the language of hate speech and its relationship to social media
The experts include Laurence Rosier from Brussels
who says social media — including Facebook
Mark Zuckerberg — provide a bullhorn for misogyny
The sensational tone and TV-friendly newsmagazine pace of the documentary may be ascribed to its intended young audience. The filmmakers, partly funded by the Telus media company, have launched a website
along with a French-language learning guide
which is being distributed in Quebec high schools
Backlash: Misogyny in the Digital Age. Co-directed by Léa Clermont-Dion and Guylaine Maroist. With Laurence Gratton, Marion Seclin, Laura Boldrini, Kiah Morris, Glen Canning, Donna Zuckerberg, Sarah T. Roberts and Laurence Rosier. Andre ‘Dede’ Ayew made a remarkable return to Ligue 1 outfit Le Havre after initially spending six months at the club last season
His return to France (although on a one-year deal) marks his fourth stint in French football
who is well-equipped with French culture and football
and hails from Seclin (a commune in the arrondissement of Lille)
The familiar sight of numerous French fans trooping to games
coupled with the emphasis the indigenous people place on football
His resonation with French culture and lifestyle has seen Dede
who holds dual nationality (France and Ghana)
Despite the weight of expectations – being the son of the legendary Abedi Pele – on his shoulders
Dede has been able to alleviate the pressure throughout his career by consistently producing clutch moments for club and country
The 34-year-old’s globetrotting career has seen him play in the English Premier League
Irrespective of laying down a marker across the various leagues
Dede’s major successes have come in the French league
Andre spent eight years with Marseille before eventually leaving to join Swansea in 2015
albeit going out on loan to Lorient and Arles-Avignon in that span
His 44-goal tally in 160 Marseille games is the highest in his career
depicting his seamless adaptation to the league
Andre has struggled to nail down a starting berth for club and country; losing his place in the Black Stars squad as a result
After his contract ran out with Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023
signing a contract until the end of the season
The Black Stars skipper amassed 20 appearances across all competitions
Dede’s rich history with French football saw him extend his record as the all-time Ghanaian top scorer in Ligue 1 to 52 goals
making the second-most appearances of any Ghanaian (201) in the league
Le Havre finished the 2023-24 season on 32 points
finishing three points adrift of the relegation zone as Andre Ayew’s immense contributions in the second half of the season helped the club preserve their league status ahead of the new campaign
endeared himself to Le Havre’s fans and management – with his five league goals the joint-most of any player in the club last term
He has an uphill task in his second stint with the club as they linger in a precarious position (15) on the league log – with six points after seven games
The veteran’s expertise will be required after October’s international break when Le Havre take on Lyon at the Stade Oceane

Capt Richard Whittaker Porritt, MP for Heywood and RadcliffeWhen the speaker of the House of Commons Edward Fitzroy rose to his feet it was with a heavy heart.
The Conservative MP was about to break the news that Captain Richard Whittaker Porrit, MP for Heywood and Radcliffe, had become the first member of the house to be killed fighting in the Second World War.
“I regret to have to inform the house of the death in action of Captain Richard Whitaker Porritt, late member for the County of Lancaster (Heywood and Radcliffe Division), and desire to express our sense of the loss we have sustained and our sympathy with the relatives,” he said
Captain Porritt, who became the youngest MP in parliament when he was elected in 1935 aged 24, died 75 years ago this week on May 26, 1940 during a bombing raid on the town of Seclin, near Lille during the retreat to Dunkirk.
As his unit sheltered in a cellar, one day after the order to evacuate the allied force from France was given, Capt Whittaker went up to the street to see if the attack had ceased and was killed in an explosion.
By tragic coincidence Heywood had also lost its MP in the First World War when Captain Harold Thomas Cawley was killed in action at Dardanelles on September 23, 1915.
The shield commemorating the death of Richard Whitaker Porritt in the House of Commons ChamberA keen supporter of the cotton industry Capt Porritt, the only son of Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs T. Porritt of Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, was well-respected across the constituency.
He held a number of roles in the town including vice-president of Heywood Cricket Club, and was a member of Heywood Horticultural Society, Heywood and District Sunday Schools Cricket League and Heywood Rotary Club.
He was also a director of well-known woollen manufacturers Messrs. Porritts and Spencer Ltd, who had mills at Stubbins, Bury, Bamford, Helmshore, Canada and Norway.
As news of his death reached Heywood the Advertiser reported flags flew at half-mast across the town and paid tribute to his life and work.
The paper reported: “Shorn of the formality born of his public work - a completely natural element - Mr Porritt was revealed as a gentleman courteous, considerate and tolerant in the extreme.
“He was a man aptly described by the Rotary motto of ‘Service above self’, and indeed he has paid the full sacrifice in furtherance of that ideal.”
Tributes flooded in for Capt Porritt following his death.
In a letter to his family the Mayor of Heywood wrote: “He served the community of Heywood faithfully and well, making no distinction between parties in the services he rendered.
“I would like to express on behalf of the inhabitants of Heywood and myself their sorrow and mine in the loss of a valued representative and friend.”
Capt Porritt’s parliamentary secretary Charles Watney wrote: “We shall lose countless young men in this war, but we shall not lose many with more lofty ideals than Captain R. W. Porritt. His memory and example will be long treasured.”

In 1983 a square close to where Capt Porritt died was renamed Square du Captaine R.W. Porritt in his honour.
He is buried nearby in the Seclin (De Bergault) Communal Cemetery. His family plaque is also on display in the House of Commons.
