Current record is 52-40 for the Springboks
The old adage holds - test matches are won up front…
Interesting article
Love certainly had impact at 10 against a very strong Chiefs side
goal kicking and general play enabled his team to beat them comfortably
If he can continue that form he would be an asset for the ABs so should at least be in the squad
Pretty well
The wallabies have a good record against the springboks
Ther has been some talk of ‘good cop bad cop’ with Joe playing the tough love role A
but Joe won’t be there for at least one year

I think the choice reflects the current battle for power between Waugh and Dan Herbert
and you’re point of comp with Ewen McKenzie may turn out ot be all too accurate
It is not a chocie which will lead to unity of purpose in the long run
it will simply expose the flaws at the time of making it
The next idea to try might be fornting up with the first XV on those tough tours of SA pre-Champions Cup semi
Get them battle hardened upstairs for the tests ahead
Previous games with Lienster showcased the full range of his abilities though Tim
just have to give him the full 80 not half a bleedin hour

Joe Heyes the toe-cruncher?😂
Lot of pressure on him to get it right as an Englishman coaching Ireland Chiefs
In fairness Eng’s D was far better by the end of the 6N than it was in the first half of the tourney Tom
Yep I think they’ll let the Prem go now ED
They have a very good shot of beating UBB in the final
Saints will prioritize he Champions Cup over the Prem naturally
They have very little chance making the playoffs
Steady on
we’ve got two very tough tests in Argentina with ranking points on the line before the RWC draw
With that selection we might have Joe Heyes at fly half
We’ll never know now
He can do more things well on the field now than Robbie in his thirties

Former England winger Jonny May has signed a two-year deal with Soyaux-Angouleme
the French second-tier ProD2 club announced on Tuesday
played the last of his 78 tests during the 2023 Rugby World Cup and left Gloucester at the end of the season
He is England's second-highest try-scorer on 36 efforts
behind Rory Underwood on 49 and also trails only Underwood as his country's most-capped winger
"I don't think I've ever been more excited about signing a contract than this time," May said in a club statement
"I'm 110 per cent committed to giving my best rugby to this team
"More than that I really want to buy into the culture of the town and the club
and make Angouleme a special place for me and my family," he added
May will face fellow former England international in back-rower Courtney Lawes
who has signed for ambitious ProD2 side Brive from Northampton
The pair highlight the financial problems of English rugby with other ex-internationals like Owen Farrell

Former England international Jonny May has announced that he will be joining French second-tier ProD2 club Soyaux-Angouleme on a two-year contract
May is a product of Gloucester Academy and made his first start for the Cherry and Whites in a pre-season friendly against Bath in 2009
He made his first team debut in the Champions Cup game against Dragons and shortly made his first start in the Anglo Welsh Cup game against Wasps
He made a brief stint with Leicester Tigers between 2017 and 2020 before returning back to the Cherry and Whites
The 34-year-old made his England debut in 2013 and has featured in 78 Tests scoring 36 tries
He is also England's second highest try scorer and was part of the side that finished runners up in the 2019 Rugby World Cup
"I'm 110 percent committed to giving my best rugby to this team
and make Angouleme a special place for me and my family"
Soyaux-Angouleme finished 12th in the Pro12 table having won just 13 out of the 30 matches

A crushing 78-18 away win by Los Pampas sees the Buenos Aires side returning to …
May reached the end of the 2023/24 season out of contract at Gloucester and was told he could move on from Kingsholm. It was at the start of this month when he was originally linked with a switch to the Pro D2, the league where his fellow England retiree Courtney Lawes will be plying his trade next season with Brive
That speculation has now been increased following a social media message posted on X by Soyaux-Angouleme

A report on rugbyrama.fr
read: “English winger Jonny May will join Soyaux-Angouleme
The officialisation will take place this evening at 6pm
It’s a real bomb that will hit the second division of French rugby
“While the rumour has been circulating for several weeks and has accelerated in recent days
they club will offer themselves a notable recruit in the person of the Gloucester player
while we announced a clear acceleration of things
the club’s communication commented with a brief tweet revealing big clues about the arrival of the English star
— SA XV Charente Rugby (@SAXV_Charente) June 11, 2024
78 corresponds to the number of selections with the England XV and 36 to the tries he scored in the white jersey; 47 is his number of European matches and 13 the number of World Cup caps
Those numbers clearly give the trend of the announcement scheduled for 6pm
the SA XV enters a higher dimension and can aspire to higher ambitions than in previous seasons
the arrival of the second best try scorer in the history of England will have a significant media resonance and consequently in terms of the level of enthusiasm around the club
“It’s one more transfer (after Courtney Lawes to Brive) which illustrates the obvious progression of the ante-chamber of the Top 14
and even if he is heading towards the twilight of his career
May remains an outstanding and classy finisher
“He has scored five tries in 15 matches for Gloucester this season
he retired from international rugby after the 2023 World Cup where he started in the semi-final against South Africa.”

Soyaux-Angouleme director of rugby Fabrice Landreau showed off his moves over the weekend
Landreau was in celebratory mood as his team secured Pro D2 safety with a 16-15 triumph against Nevers at Stade Chanzy that gives them breathing space from the drop
Victory has seen Angouleme shoot up to 10th position in the standings with just two rounds remaining

It will be interesting to see if Robertson pulls out his moves if the All Blacks win the Rugby Championship this year or he becomes a more reserved figure at Test level
That remains to be seen and he might save his routine for the ultimate prize

reported that he was on the club’s recruitment list
At the time, the club’s budget was said to be only €5,000 (£4,200) a month for May and that he would potentially hold out for a move instead to Major League Rugby in America after he was told earlier this year that his Gallagher Premiership contract wasn’t being renewed at Kingsholm
However, the 12th place Pro D2 club have managed to pull off a recruitment coup by persuading the 34-year-old May, the second highest England try-scorer of all time who retired from international rugby at the end of Rugby World Cup 2023, that his future is best served in France and not the USA
It was Tuesday morning when the French outfit teased that a deal had been done
47 and 78 – all corresponded to figures in May’s stellar career
Thirteen was his number of Rugby World Cup caps
36 the number of tries he scored for England
47 the amount of European matches he played
and 78 reflected his tally of Test selections
The social media post added that an announcement was due at 6pm French time and it duly arrived

The Paris Saint-Germain Women's team disposed of Soyaux 7-0 on Sunday 4 April at the Stade Georges Lefèvre in Saint-Germain-en-Laye to cement their place at the top of D1 standings
Eight days after their excellent 3-0 win over Montpellier
Les Parisiennes were back in action in the French women's First Division looking for a 15th consecutive win to stay clear of second-placed Lyon - whose game against Guingamp was postponed
Coach Olivier Echouafni went with an attacking starting XI against a Soyaux side sitting tenth in the standings and fighting for their top-flight survival

The big surprise when the two sides walked out for the match was that both were wearing Paris Saint-Germain kits
whose jerseys were lost en route to the French capital
Kadidiatou Diani crossed for Marie-Antoinette Katoto whose control and shot hit the crossbar
The ball was immediately headed back into the middle by Sandy Baltimore and Katoto swept home the second chance (1-0
Paulina Dudek then doubled the lead in the 41st minute
before a Sara Däbritz corner saw Formiga make it 3-0 just before the half-time break (3-0
it was another Dabritz corner that saw Katoto add another (4-0
The France international striker then turn provider for Grace Geyoro (5-0
Les Rouges et Bleues continued to come forward in wave after wave of attack
Diani got her name on the score sheet (6-0
before Katoto played a one-two with Nadim before completing her hat-trick (7-0
The result sees Paris move provisionally four points clear of OL as they head into the international break
The next game sees Echouafni's side in action in the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final away at Lyon's Groupama stadium on Sunday 18 April at 14:00

A week after being held to a 0-0 draw by Montpellier in their own stadium
the Parisians once again headed for the Yvelines on Friday
This time on the Red and Blue's menu was the visit of Soyaux
Four days before the first leg of the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich
Didier Ollé-Nicolle decided to rest some of his key players for this match against the Sojaldiciennes
The Red and Blue started the game with a bang as Jordyn Huitema (3') and Kadidatou Diani (12') went close to opening the scoring
was forced to leave the pitch to Sakina Karchaoui (6') due to injury..

This win allows the Parisians to consolidate their 2nd place in the D1 ranking with 46 points (15 wins
1 loss) and to remain 3 points behind Lyon
Next up for Didier Ollé-Nicolle's players are the trip to Munich and the first leg against Bayern on Tuesday 22 March at 6.45pm at the Allianz Arena

SCOTLAND head coach Gregor Townsend has called up five players ahead of the opening round of the Guinness Six Nations with Scotland kicking off their campaign against Italy at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Saturday afternoon
Leicester Tigers second-row Cameron Henderson
Soyaux-Angouleme back-row Alexander Masibaka and Glasgow Warriors full-back Ollie Smith have all been added to the squad
Masibaka is clearly the curve-ball selection
The 23-year-old qualifies to play for Scotland via his a mother from Paisley
His father is from Fiji and he was born in Perth
playing briefly for Western Force before moving to France
initially to join Montpellier in 2022 where he spent a season without playing a 1st XV game
before joining Soyaux-Angouleme at the start of the 2023-4 campaign
The Monday Bulletin (27th January): Uruguay a surprise package in Perth and nominations sought for Celebration of Women in Sport Awards
URC: gritty Glasgow hold off late Connacht fightback
6N: Gregor Townsend insists Scotland won’t be sidetracked by injury setbacks
who sustained a groin injury playing for Bath in their victory over Sale Sharks at the weekend
and will remain with Bath for further assessment to determine exact timescales for his recovery
Dylan Richardson and Max Williamson on the list of players unavailable due to injury at the start of this tournament
Scotland’s updated 2025 Six Nations squad
The Monday Bulletin (27th January): Uruguay a surprise package in Perth and nominations sought for Celebration of Women in Sport Awards
Have to confess I’ve never heard of Alex Masibaka before this call up
Just watched some YouTube videos of him this season and good god what a ball carrier he is
massive & carries ball extremely hard as well as being a try machine
Masibaka and Smith is to add to the training squad and get more opportunity to look at them in training or let them develop in the 6N environment
I’m a bit surprised that Sam Skinner wasn’t called up as a replacement lock
as we look a bit inexperienced in that department now
He should have been in the squad to start with imho but maybe others disagree with me 😁
Also glad Euan Ferrie is in because Tom English always raves about him 😀
He’s a miniature Sione Vailanu – bulky
low centre of gravity and a quick turn of pace … and with a mammy fae Paisley he won’t need a translator …
Was wondering when the second row reinforcements would be called up
Cammy Henderson is a hugely valuable addition
but he needs to get out of Oyonnax to further his test career
he must be doing pretty well to get in ahead of Alex Craig
who had a great comeback game for Glasgow – as if he’d never been away
who gives us real mobility at the back and we’ve certainly suffered some significant losses pre-campaign despite our depth in quality
my heart was in my mouth watching Finn and others safely negotiate games that frankly I couldn’t give two hoots about
But the English paymasters will insist on their very expensive pounds of flesh and we are unable to do anything about it
Russell fortunately has the knack of staying out of trouble
but I’d rather see him under wraps in a Scottish training camp
enjoying the same benefits as the Six Nations stars from other countries
soon to return from injury and hopefully playing a part in the latter half of this Six Nations campaign
It would be very easy to do something about it
All the SRU had to do is make the same payment to the prem league that the RFU does to release the English players
Tom Dodd must count himself unlucky along with Bradbury as potential replacement for Bayliss
Magnus Bradbury suspended so couldn’t be called in
Tom Dodd was outstanding on Saturday at Scarlets
Have been impressed every time I have seen him play
Unfortunately you also have to question whether Marcus can keep the head
the last thing we need in our 6N is Yellows/Reds …
The list of Scotland red cards in the 6N is quite impressive: Murray 2006 – Hogg 2014 – Fagerson 2021 – Russell 2021 – Gilchrist 2023
Not to mention Nathan Hines 5 yellow cards whilst playing for Scotland … oh … and Jamie Ritchie’s penchant for testing the patience of referees at breakdowns
let’s single out a player who has rarely played for Scotland
try to make a link with red/yellow cards and see if that conjures up a rational conclusion
And Russell often plays the full 80 or very close
Really worried that he’ll end up playing too much as well as being susceptible to injury
Fingers crossed he brings his form and run of injury-free game time to the 6N
he wants him playing as many minutes as possible in every game
It’s called getting your money’s worth
he is definitely getting value for money at the moment
I see that Gray didn’t play at the weekend as declared unfit by Bordeaux…
Thought that Ollie Smith looked sharp and hungry yesterday for a first game back
I like Ollie and it’s great to have him back after such a long injury spell
But it feels a bit desperate to have him come into the squad after one run out (where he didn’t show an awful lot TBH playing out of position in poor conditions against pretty limited opposition)
Just didn’t scream out to me that he’s ready for 6N-level yet
A bit like pulling this Masibaka chap out of French 2nd tier… Good to see Henderson come in though
But such a shame for Bayliss to get injured right on the cusp of the 6N and when he was playing some real quality rugby
Hope it doesn’t turn out to be a serious or long term issue
Surely this was the ideal opportunity for an up and coming academy player to gain some valuable international experience
What does this say about the state of our U20s if we go to the D2 to get a player to cover back row
he could be a revelation but I see it as a missed opportunity for our own home grown talent
Think it’s great for Townsend to get a closer look at this player and see if he can step up if called upon
The idea of just bunging in an academy player is a bit odd
Any of those players in the squad could get called upon
There’s no shortage of opportunities – almost all our back row players at Edinburgh and Glasgow end up getting capped at some point anyway
Difficult time to call up an academy player as most of them
will be involved with Scotland U20’s
Liam McConnell is the one I’d have liked to have seen get a shot
A great prospect but some way to go before ready for this level
Can build on a Solid first start for Edinburgh on Saturday
always wondered when he’d get the call
Shame for Bayliss as he’s a really dynamic player and always adds something
Scotland remain badly exposed in these weeks around the 6 Nations when English and French clubs protect their own players but play all their Scots
Hurd all playing at the weekend so thankfully only 1 injured
the Rugby Union pay English clubs to effectively allow their internationalists to remain in the English training camp rather than play club rugby
but they must have some kind of arrangement
and I don’t mind admitting that I winced throughout the Sale -Bath game yesterday
