The in vitro biological oxidation of albendazole to its pharmacologically active sulfoxide and its sulfone by ovine liver microsomes has been studied
Sulfoxidation (maximal rate = 0.412 nmole/min/mg of protein
Michaelis constant = 185 × 10−6 M) was 107 times more potent than formation of albendazole sulfone
The sulfoxidation corresponds to a reduced nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide phosphate-dependent enzymatic system characterized by a pH optima value around 8
Flavin adenine dinucleotide-containing monooxygenase could be responsible for this S-oxygenation because of the strong inhibitory effect of methimazole
Albendazole sulfoxidase is inhibited competitively by the related anthelmintic drug fenbendazole (inhibitory constant = 243 × 10−6M) and noncompetitively by chlorpromazine (inhibitory constant = 135 × 10−6M)
and hexobarbital are less active inhibitors
whereas dexamethasone acetate significantly enhances the reaction which is not inhibited by either carbon monoxide

A French homeless man who built his own intricate castle out of recycled foam after losing his apartment has been notified by authorities to tear it down because it poses a danger
a 53-year-old former animator from Toulouse
after reportedly losing his apartment to squatting
he had no choice but to sleep in a tent on the outskirts of Tournefeuille
an old woman stopped in front of his tent and said “that’s not very clean,” so he decided to upgrade his temporary abode to something more visually appealing
he steadily built himself a fairytale castle out of recycled and painted blocks of foam found in dumpsters
his home became a popular attraction for both children and adults
Apart from constantly improving his foam castle by adding all kinds of accessories
David also hosts creative workshops for children on a voluntary basis every Sunday
He never bothered anyone and locals seem to love his beautiful castle
Some were shocked to learn he uses it as a home
thinking that it was an artistic installation paid for by the local council
Although everyone seems to be in awe of David’s talent
local authorities aren’t as impressed
they sent the homeless person a rather inappropriate gift
a letter notifying him that he needed to dismantle his castle as soon as possible
The backlash from the locals has convinced officials to extend David’s deadline
but they insist that the man’s home will have to be destroyed
“It’s made of foam, so if it catches fire the person inside could die and the fire could spread,” a spokesperson for the Tournefeuille town hall said
adding that it was the mayor’s responsibility to ensure the safety of the town’s citizens
locals believe that authorities should come up with another solution in order to preserve David’s “magical castle” which children have grown to love so much

A FAIRYTALE castle built by a homeless man is set to be torn down by a killjoy council - despite locals thinking it's "magical"
constructed the bizarre makeshift home - known as the Hobbit House - from rubbish and recycled foam found at a tip
David's unique home has now become a popular spot in the local area in Tournefeuille, near Toulouse in France
Not only has his castle become a tourist attraction
but he also uses it to run art workshops for children
who was forced out of his old apartment by squatters
initially lived in a battered tent beside the nearby Touch River
He then decided to upgrade his home and build himself a fairytale castle in the woods
To his surprise, his two-metre high DIY castle quickly became a local tourist attraction for both children and adults.
David then started hosting workshops for kids every Sunday where they gathered at the castle to make toys.
Local Souhail Amirouch, 28, said: "I think it's a great curiosity and inspires the imagination.
who takes his six-year-old daughter to the Hobbit House
added: "You have to wonder why they are doing it because at the end of the day doesn't bother anyone
Some were shocked to learn David uses it as a home - thinking the impressive structure it was an art installation paid for by the council
But now David is facing homelessness again after councillors ordered him on Christmas Eve to tear down the castle
David said: "The fact that I'm here is obviously illegal
but the way they are trying to get me to move on is not being done in legal way with a full notice
and therefore it has at the moment no more value than a wish."
The council claims the structure - made out of foam blocks - is a fire risk
and could also encourage other DIY builders to put up buildings in the woods
The mayor's office said they have responsibility for the safety of the town and its people
the deadline for it to be dismantled has now been extended - but the council said it will not be put off
