Care Home Professional
Vivant has announced it is rebranding as Venelle
as part of significant expansion plans for the company
including expanding into the care home market
The rebrand comes amidst plans to expand Venelle’s offering and move into the care home market
Venelle stated that it already has funds in place
The brand name “Venelle” is derived from the French word for “alley”
representing the company’s philosophy of guiding individuals through life’s many stages with grace and care
said: “We are excited to introduce Venelle
a name that resonates deeply with our mission to support life’s journeys
whether you’re running a business in your 30s or enjoying retirement in your 70s
“People from all walks of life and backgrounds can be in need of care support
our aim is to make every step of that journey as enriching and enjoyable as possible.”
Blezzard added: “We’ve always believed that life is about the journey
we’re here to ensure that journey is as beautiful and fulfilling as possible
“This new chapter allows us to continue empowering individuals to live life on their terms
now with the added support of dedicated care environments that reflect our high standards of service.”
Boutique Hotelier
has partnered with high-end home care provider Venelle as part of a search for an exceptional unpaid carer to win a luxury retreat at the hotel
as it seeks to offer an opportunity for rest and relaxation in recognition of the dedication carers show every day
emotional strain and a continued lack of wider societal recognition
carers spend their lives putting others before themselves – and Venelle and Bowood are seeking to ensure that one exceptional individual gets the rest they truly deserve
Hospitality shares many traits with the care industry – namely looking after others – and that willingness to go above and beyond saw many hospitality staff transition into care as lockdown kicked in
with one industry crying out for workers whilst the other pulled down the shutters
Nominations are open to anyone across the UK who provides care and support for a loved one – whether it’s a family member caring for a relative
or even someone nominating themselves for some well deserved recognition
saying: “The care sector and hospitality sector are very similar in many ways
Both of us care for others – and many people in the industry transitioned from hospitality into care at the height of the pandemic
we have enormous respect for the vital contribution that carers make
and we’re delighted to support Venelle in their efforts to reward a worthy carer
The chosen nominee will receive a luxury stay at Bowood Hotel
providing a much-needed break from the pressures of caring
To help facilitate the logistics of the retreat
the team at Venelle is offering to provide up to three free days of respite care in support
so that there are no concerns about a reduction in care provision
working tirelessly to keep people safe in unimaginably difficult circumstances
carers still aren’t given the recognition they deserve
We want to honour their efforts – past and present – by giving one outstanding unpaid carer a well-earned moment of rest.”
Venelle is inviting nominations from friends
highlighting why the nominee deserves this special retreat
visit Venelle’s website and complete the nomination form
The competition is open tounpaid carers who provide essential support to a loved one
with entries closing on 31st March 2025 with the winner announced in April
Commenting on the thinking behind the initiative
Louise Blezzard said: “Caring for a loved one is an act of deep devotion
but it can also be incredibly demanding – both physically and emotionally
Many unpaid carers put their own needs last
simply because they want to do their best for the person they love
Everybody deserves the chance to win a well-earned break
but this is about recognising someone truly exceptional – someone who has gone above and beyond in their role as a carer.”
She added: “And by offering a few days of respite care
we’re making sure that the person they support continues to receive the care they need – so they can truly relax
The winner will be determined by a combination of Louise Blezzard at Venelle and Matthew Voyle
who will make a judgement based on the information received as part of the nomination
The provision of respite care will see Venelle’s Director of Care
visit the person needing care at their home
where she will talk through how Venelle can best support them whilst their normal carer – the special winner – is away at the retreat
Following a relaxed conversation about their needs
they will be matched with some of Venelle’s wonderful Personal Assistants
before being able to choose the PA they feel they would have a personal connection with
Kelly will then come back and introduce the PA to the recipient of respite care to ensure they’re comfortable with their choice
Venelle’s search is an opportunity to highlight the vital work carers do every single day and to ensure that at least one carer receives the recognition – and the break – they truly deserve
with the initiative firmly supported by the team at Bowood

A French mayor has been suspended from his party after calling for the country to ban Islam
the UMP mayor of Venelles in southern France
tweeted: “The Muslim religion must be banned in France” and added that anyone practising the religion must be “immediately escorted to the border”
He also claimed Islam will be banned in France by 2027
The tweet was part of a discussion former president Nicolas Sarkozy began with the public
who is leader of the UMP party and is likely to run for president again in 2017
immediately distanced himself from the comments
writing: “I condemn this proposal even if secularism also means fixing limits
UMP Vice-president Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet announced the party was suspending Mr Chardon pending a procedure to remove him from the UMP
“I have called for the expulsion procedure to be started for these absurd statements that in no way reflect the values and programme of the UMP,” she told AFP
it was thought the tweet had been sent after Mr Chardon’s account had been hacked
but the mayor confirmed he sent the extreme message
Recently the mayor has been treated for cancer of the mouth and came to his radical proposals during this period
Mr Chardon became mayor of the small town of Venelles in 2012 after the death of his predecessor.

with more than 100 potential victims coming forward since TV drama
The former Post Office chief executive Paula Vennells is to hand back her CBE over the wrongful prosecution of hundreds of staff
with over 100 more potential victims having come forward in recent weeks
Vennells said on Tuesday she would return the award given to her in 2019 as the fallout from ITV’s drama about the scandal continues to grow
Vennells said on Tuesday she was “truly sorry for the devastation caused to the sub-postmasters and their families, whose lives were torn apart by being wrongly accused and wrongly prosecuted as a result of the Horizon [accounting software] system”.
Meanwhile ministers are still trying to decide how best to speed up the compensation scheme and are even considering passing a bill to issue mass exonerations for hundreds of people whose convictions have still not been quashed.

told MPs on Tuesday he expected to make an announcement shortly on how best to accelerate the pardons and the payouts
He told MPs: “These were truly exceptional circumstances
I was on the record as saying this is the most serious miscarriage of justice since the Guildford Four and the Birmingham Six
But the clue is there were four in the Guildford case
and it will need an appropriate resolution.”

Photograph: Andrew Matthews/PAA Downing Street spokesperson said: “All our focus continues to be on ensuring all those whose lives were torn apart have swifter access to compensation and justice.”
The Scottish government also said on Tuesday it was considering a pardon scheme
saying a mass exoneration was “very worthy of consideration”
UK government sources said however that major decisions about the compensation scheme, including whether Fujitsu should be forced to contribute
would be made after the long-running public inquiry by Sir Wyn Williams
which will soon begin its third year of hearings
are urging the government not to go too far in interfering with the existing judicial process
told the BBC on Tuesday: “It’s a short cut
which may leave some people dissatisfied that they haven’t really been fully exonerated.”
the Tory chair of the Commons justice committee
said that if the government were to publish a bill to quash all the Post Office convictions
Chalk should check with senior judges to ensure they agreed that the normal means for speeding up and grouping appeals could not deliver justice within an “acceptable timeframe”
Vennells said she would be giving evidence to the public inquiry “in the coming months”
She added: “I have so far maintained my silence as I considered it inappropriate to comment publicly while the inquiry remains ongoing and before I have provided my oral evidence
aware of the calls from sub-postmasters and others to return my CBE
“I have listened and I confirm that I return my CBE with immediate effect.”

has led to a public outcry over the scandal

having previously said Rishi Sunak would “strongly support” the honours forfeiture committee if it decided to look at rescinding the award
Vennells said she was focused on “assisting the inquiry and will not make any further public comment until it has concluded”
The businesswoman was the chief executive of the Post Office from 2012 to 2019
when the organisation routinely denied there were any problems with Horizon and pursued prosecutions against hundreds of post office operators
Others have sought to highlight the role played by Fujitsu
which runs the Horizon software used by the Post Office and is a major contractor across Whitehall
An earlier version of Horizon was blamed for giving the false impression that thousands of Post Office operators had stolen money
called on ministers to review their decision to continue awarding contracts to the company
“I have no idea why the government is continuing to give Fujitsu contracts – very
“I can’t understand why the government wants to continue to deal with them.”
Fujitsu UK’s four biggest repeat customers are the Ministry of Defence
HM Revenue and Customs and the Financial Conduct Authority
which handed the controversial IT supplier 68 contracts between them totalling more than £2.7bn since 2012
The company said on Tuesday: “The inquiry has reinforced the devastating impact on postmasters’ lives and that of their families
and Fujitsu has apologised for its role in their suffering
Fujitsu is fully committed to supporting the inquiry in order to understand what happened and to learn from it
it would be inappropriate for Fujitsu to comment further at this time.”
ITV meanwhile said the four programmes of the drama are now the most-watched on any channel this year

One of France’s largest canal networks is set to host four PV systems totaling 12MW of generation capacity
The arrays are expected to occupy a total canal surface with a length of 5,420m and to generate a total of 19GWh per year
A pilot system built by Société du Canal de Provence (SCP)
From pv magazine France
France-based Société du Canal de Provence (SCP) and French energy provider Sergies
have signed a partnership agreement to jointly finance
build and operate four PV systems with a combined capacity of 12MW on the Provence Canal
110 municipalities in the southern French regions of Bouches-du-Rhône and the Var
including big cities such as Aix-en-Provence
These solar systems are expected to occupy a total canal surface with a length of 5,420m and to generate a total of 19GWh per year
They will be located across the municipalities of Venelles
The SCP will be in charge of deciding the area to be occupied by the facilities
will manage the deployment of the PV installations and the associated electrical equipment
The choice of the specific project design will be made by considering landscape integration and the technical and economic balance of the photovoltaic installations
The two companies created a 50/50 special purpose vehicle for the project
is bringing their technical solutions closer to commercial viability
the Provence Canal has the potential to host around 40MW of PV capacity
36kW prototype above a section of the canal was built in 2016 in the town of Rians
The main purpose was to study the effects of the water in cooling the photovoltaic panels and the impact of that process on electricity production efficiency

The new equipment, complementing two existing schools, promotes the district as coherent overall project, where the pedestrian pathes, the cultural, sports and educational buildings take place in an open space, where the plant is ubiquitous in the city of tomorrow.
It creates the new image of the school complex face to the city and proposes an environmental architecture. That is why we have treated it as a wooden pavilion surrounded by trees.

Just Drill the World's Hottest WellAn engineering team bored 2 miles into hot rock without causing major earthquakes—a good sign for harnessing the Earth's heat as a power source. If a geothermal well could tap into a reservoir of supercritical fluids and use them to spin a turbine on the surface
it would be one of the most energy-dense forms of renewable power in the world.Illustration: Sam Whitney; Getty ImagesSave this storySaveSave this storySaveThere’s treasure buried deep beneath the viridescent foothills of Tuscany’s Apennine Mountains
where the stark metal trusses of the Venelle-2 drilling tower mark its location like an X on a map
This geothermal well reaches nearly two miles beneath the surface to a region where temperatures and pressures are so high that rock begins to bend
conditions are ripe for supercritical geothermal fluids
mineral-rich water that exhibits characteristics of both a liquid and a gas
but if Venelle-2 could tap into a reservoir of supercritical fluids and use them to spin a turbine on the surface
it would be one of the most energy-dense forms of renewable power in the world
Boring deep into the ground risks triggering an earthquake if a large chunk of rock slips out of place
This risk was amplified at the Venelle-2 well
a poorly understood boundary between the hard rock near the surface and the more pliant rock below
What would happen when the drill punched through this layer into the supercritical fluids below was anyone’s guess
The authors say they hope their study will assuage fears that all geothermal drilling causes earthquakes
the public usually hears about geothermal wells only when something goes wrong
But Venelle-2 shows that “there are also many positive cases of wells drilled for geothermal purposes,” says Riccardo Minetto
a researcher at the University of Geneva and coauthor of the study
The plan was to tap into reservoirs of supercritical fluids deep beneath the surface
If the energy-dense fluids could be extracted from a well
it would be another historic first for Larderello-Travale
The Descramble team was not the first to go digging for supercritical fluids
and Mexico have all drilled into conditions that could produce supercritical fluids
which require temperatures above 700 degrees Fahrenheit and pressures 220 times greater than those at the surface
But only one project has actually found supercritical fluids
researchers from the Iceland Deep Drilling Project
run by the Icelandic government and a consortium of national energy companies
reported they had reached supercritical fluids 3 miles beneath the surface
they are still working on generating useful energy from the well
The Descramble team started drilling Venelle-2 right around the time the Iceland Deep Drilling Project discovered supercritical fluids
They used hardened drilling technology to penetrate regions far hotter than any other geothermal well
they were forced to stop just a few hundred feet shy of their goal
Temperatures at the bottom of the borehole were nearly 200 degrees hotter than what was encountered in the Icelandic well; too hot to safely continue
an independent team of European geoscientists was monitoring a network of ultrasensitive seismometers placed around the Larderello-Travale geothermal field
Supercritical geothermal wells are an emerging technology
and he says future attempts at drilling for supercritical fluids “might induce larger seismic events.”
Although Minetto acknowledged that no earthquakes have been linked to drilling for supercritical fluids
geothermal wells have caused major earthquakes in the past
South Korea experienced its second-largest earthquake in history and traced its origin to an experimental geothermal well
Some experts blame these seismic events on drilling into faults
which increases efficiency but also carries a much higher risk of triggering an earthquake
As to whether drilling for supercritical fluids carries more earthquake risk than drilling more conventional geothermal wells
Minetto says “there are still too many unknowns about supercritical fluids to give a proper answer.”
Even without an increased risk of earthquakes
supercritical geothermal wells have other drawbacks
Reservoirs of supercritical fluids appear to be somewhat rare
which limits their usefulness in transitioning the world to geothermal energy
And the fluids themselves wreak havoc on boreholes by destroying their liners and concrete plugs
“The fluids are very corrosive and dissolve a lot of stuff out of the rock that you need to deal with,” says Susan Petty
president of Hot Rock Energy Research Organization and cofounder of the geothermal company Alta Rock Energy
Petty advocates for building so-called “enhanced geothermal systems” that aren’t dependent on naturally-existing reservoirs of geothermal fluids
hot rock and inject water from the surface
The water heats up to near-supercritical temperatures and is pumped back to the surface to spin turbine generators
It’s a technique borrowed from the oil and gas industry that promises to free geothermal energy from its dependence on natural hot-water reservoirs
enhanced geothermal systems can be used almost anywhere
The challenges of finding and reaching deep pockets of hot water and steam have limited geothermal electricity adoption around the globe
But if geothermal energy wasn’t limited to locations selected by nature
Petty calculates that it could provide an inexhaustible source of always-on
carbon-free electricity for the vast majority of the world
“Geothermal suffers from a bit of a marketing problem,” says Jeffrey Bielicki, leader of the Energy Sustainability Research Laboratory at Ohio State University. “Even though it has a lot of beneficial characteristics, when people say ‘renewable energy’ they’re usually referring to wind and solar.”
Earlier this month, the US Department of Energy announced $25 million in research funding that will be deployed at Forge, its dedicated geothermal test site. It’s a start, but geothermal energy systems still have a long way to go before they hit a power grid near you.

(Press release) Basseterre, St. Kitts: The Eastern Caribbean Composes Summer Workshop 2024 is set to showcase the extraordinary talents of three exceptional young musicians from St. Kitts and Nevis. This highly anticipated event, hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra (ABYSO) at the American University of Antigua, promises to be a transformative experience for these budding artists.
The selection process for the workshop was highly competitive. Interested students were required to submit a statement of interest, explaining their desire to participate. A musical proficiency of grades 4-5 level was also a requirement prior to selection of these outstanding youth who were tested rigorously. Three talented students were chosen to participate:
Mikkall Walters aged 16 attends the Basseterre High School and has attained a musical level of ABRSM Grade 4.
Hannah-Marie Williams aged 16 attends the Washington Archibald High School and has attained a musical level of ABRSM Grade 5.
Royel Pemberton aged 17 attends the Clarence Fitzroy Braynt College and has attained a musical level of ABRSM Grade 4.
The students will be accompanied by two dedicated music teachers who will provide guidance and support throughout the workshop: Ms. Nicole Maynard, music teacher at Verchilds High School, and Ms. Venelle Powell, a music teacher at Gingerland Secondary School.
The Ministry of Education has generously sponsored all participants, covering their airfare and providing a stipend, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their opportunity to participate in the enriching experience.
According to a release from Eastern Caribbean Composes, “The workshop is not just a platform for musical education; it is a celebration of cultural diversity, personal growth, and future career prospects.”
The ministry hopes that as Mikkall, Hannah-Marie, and Royel gather in Antigua, they will create harmonies that echo the unity and richness of St. Kitts and Nevis. Their journey promises to be one of inspiration, learning, and unforgettable experiences.
Boosie Badazz is officially going toe-to-toe with the Biloxi
Police Department after a series of recent events
It all started when the Louisiana rapper and members of his family were pepper-sprayed by a mall security guard and once everyone was outside
a fight ensued. When things calmed down
Boosie's family drove off but were stopped by police
and from there the story gets a little fuzzy
Initially, the cops said they never seized any jewelry when they impounded the vehicle, but days later they said they actually found the items
So Boosie said he's planning to file a lawsuit
and in the meantime he released a new song called "F--- The Police X 10."
turned me against 'em / Sent me to my first funeral
now I'm a victim / My daddy called them pigs
I'll never forget / He went to jail on Highland road
for trying to take a piss," spit the rapper
Where this beef between Boosie and the Biloxi police department goes from here is obviously unknown
but it looks like it's a very long way from being over
