Lamia Gabal spends a lot of time in the operating room
“I like to say that I’m in my pajamas at work
which are my scrubs,” she says with a little laugh
but I enjoy getting out of them.” Indeed
Gabal is as comfortable in those green “pajamas” as she is in a designer ballgown
and she loves dressing up—whether it’s for a dinner date with her husband or a gala fundraiser
“I think that comes from the little girl in me who didn’t grow up with very much,” says Gabal
she’s the driving force behind Prestige Medical Group
an all-women practice in a field dominated by men
You’ll find her name on this year’s Physicians of Excellence list— her 17th time on the esteemed Orange County Medical Association roster
with a focus on female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPMRS).
NAME: Lamia Gabal, M.D., FPMRS PRACTICE: Prestige Medical Group, prestigemedigroup.com FAMILY STATS: Husband
Alix Wilcoxson EXERCISE: Orangetheory GUILTY PLEASURE: A sweet treat before bed CELEBRITY WHOSE STYLE SHE ADMIRES: Amal Clooney
“When I finished my residency in 2001
only 4 percent of board-certified urologists were female,” she notes
“We are up to 11 percent now—a vast improvement but still a minority
Women in urology are important since many women suffer from urological conditions—incontinence
bladder cancer—and they may feel more comfortable talking to a female doctor about these things
… I’ve built a practice that I’m very proud of
and an all-female staff so that women—and men—can feel very comfortable talking to us about all these intimate issues.”
But her path to success was long and winding
when their parents packed up and moved from Cairo
“Because they did bring us here for better opportunities
they never let us forget it,” she says with a lighthearted tone
‘You’re going to be a doctor
and you’re going to be a lawyer.” But the family struggled financially
and shortly after their arrival in the United States
Gabal’s mother suffered a severe injury
“My parents couldn’t speak English
but both had degrees in agricultural engineering
and my dad took a job as dishwasher to support the family
and my mom got out to push from the back while my dad was steering
The car rolled back on my mom and pinned her between two cars.”
Her mom ended up in traction at UCSF Medical Center
“My dad didn’t know what to do with two small kids
so we went into foster care for six months.” In the meantime
When her mom was released from the hospital
and her mom was later hired for a job with the county
“But my dad suffered from mental illness
He opened a couple of gas stations and then auto-parts stores
We were the only Arabs in Anaheim back then.”
Gabal attended Magnolia High School and graduated at 16
then went to UC Irvine and graduated with a bachelor’s degree at 20
but her college counselor said the chances of getting into a California-based program were slim to none
“It was just so discouraging.”
she worked for her sorority—Pi Beta Phi—and helped establish a chapter in Syracuse
and it was such a culture shock,” she recalls
she was hired by a pharmaceutical company and sold orthodontic products
‘I think I want to be the one they’re selling to.’” So she pursued medical school
“That was three years after I had graduated college
It wasn’t as common to take a gap year back then
I can’t imagine doing anything else now.”
But urology wasn’t her first choice
She laughs about it now when she thinks back to her third year
when students embark on their specialty rotations
“I wanted plastic surgery and ENT (ear
but I ended up getting plastic surgery and urology
I thought, ‘Who wants to do this for a living?’ But I sucked it up and did it
I knew I wanted to do some sort of surgical specialty
Most urologists have a great sense of humor
there aren’t as many emergencies as you would have as a general surgeon
and there needed to be more women in the field.”
Her practice has expanded—in every way
her team moved from a 3,200-square-foot space into a beautiful 6,100-square-foot medical office
we’ve added sexual health and wellness into the practice
It’s been so wonderful to help people with those challenges because they seem so taboo to talk about
It’s a really important part of life
and not all doctors have the time or the expertise to help patients with that.” Clearly
Police in Lamia have arrested a priest after he became verbally and physically aggressive after the license plates of his car were removed following a traffic violation
Local media reported that the cleric had caused a minor traffic accident and had parked his vehicle for a long time at a spot that was obstructing traffic
he found that the police had removed its license plates
he began to insult the officers and threatened that he would call a government minister to have them fired from their jobs
Officers at the scene requested support from DIAS motorcycle unit and the security police in order to arrest the priest and bring the priest to the station
Eyewitnesses said the police handled the situation professionally
[The cleric] was kicking the traffic police officer and trying to hit him with the license plates
He was also hitting the regular police car that came to take him to police headquarters
Members of the public were trying to calm him down and he continued to curse the police officers with obscenities,” said one
Local media said the priest is likely to face charges of causing bodily harm

In part one of our interview with The Perfect Couple showrunner Jenna Lamia
she discussed adapting Elin Hilderbrand’s novel
Now we move on to some of the specifics of how Lamia stuck the landing
delivering a satisfying whodunit on the picturesque island of Nantucket
the playground of the uber-wealthy Winbury clan
In the final shot of the penultimate episode of The Perfect Couple
Merritt (Meghann Fahy) is sitting on the beach in her robe
The night of her murder has been played out in flashbacks in previous episodes
and viewers are aware of almost every possible scenario for who killed her and why
but we’ve never gotten this close to the actual event
As she sits in the wee hours of the morning
hey,” a bit surprised but with enough familiarity for viewers to understand Merritt knows this person
and we are left tantalizingly close to Merritt herself
Lamia delves deeper into the show’s symbolism
creating sympathy for a character who is only alive onscreen for one episode
and the filming schedule for a limited series
I want to talk about the final shot of the fifth episode
hey.” How did that scene specifically come to fruition
Was that how you originally envisioned that scene in your head
It’s so satisfying when a moment that you’ve seen for the entire gestation of the project comes to life just the way you saw it
Because that was very early in the writer’s room
and we knew several characters had the possibility of having joined her out on the beach
And other things changed since we put that moment in
There were other characters planted nearby in different ways
that her character was going to turn around and say
“Hey” in a way that’s going to make you want to get out your forensic kit
She seems kind of friendly but a little bit apprehensive and a little unsure
It came together literally exactly how I saw it in my head when I wrote it
which is such an incredible feeling for a writer
what did you want the viewer to feel when we find out who the killer is in the finale
It is my fervent hope that when you find out you will feel satisfied and feel that we have played fair with you as an audience
That was the hardest part about writing this is I love
love to watch these kinds of shows and I really love when I feel that the writer has played fair with me
but that changes over the episodes when we get to know who she really is
especially when we find out she is pregnant
When you’re dealing with a character who is the victim
is it hard to find a way to make her compelling enough and relatable enough to the audience to care about who killed her
I can’t imagine someone I would rather take home with me
She is such a beautiful person and made Merritt into such a beautiful person that you can’t help but absolutely adore her and her friendship with Amelia [Eve Hewson]
which I think is the true love story of the show
But I love that you noticed that about her character because that’s exactly one of the arcs I was so committed to doing
which is it would be easy to dismiss her at first as a party girl or a gold digger or
a slut — which I think is funny when Isabele’s [Isabelle Adjani] character says it
there’s nothing wrong with a woman who wants to have sex with a lot of people
This show features many close-ups of eyes and eye imagery
That definitely comes directly from our director, Susanne Bier. Luckily, we had two DPs who were both incredible
and I know they talked about that early on
But I think this show is asking you to think about the inner lives of these characters
and those kinds of shots bring you so close
I think they remind you that you may not always know exactly what this person is thinking
but you know they’re thinking more than they’re projecting from a mid-range distance
which is how we all experience one another
The show a lot is about the projection of an image
a perfect image — what we’re telling the world about who we are and how great our life is
and inspired by Merritt’s influencer background
But what Suzanne [Bier] is doing with the camera is reminding us that there’s so much more than we are being presented with from a distance
and we should think about that and think about what’s behind there
It was filmed like a feature in that all six scripts were completed before we even started pre-production
There was a long pre-production process for this show
and we finished our work as a group in June
This show didn’t begin shooting until April
I was rewriting on my own and having the cast join and rewriting for certain casts
So the show had this whole other revision after the team of writers was finished
That enabled us to blockshoot everything that happens in a certain location all at once
We shot almost all of the police station scenes in April because a lot of those are interior
so it was easy for us not to worry about the fact that outside
and the grass really wasn’t green yet
we had to shoot a lot of the interiors in London on a soundstage
For a show like this that’s really character-driven
I think it was really important to everyone to get Nantucket right
and we did look at a couple of different locations
But you can’t really approximate New England; the flora and fauna are pretty unique
So the sea grass and the dunes and the beaches just needed to look right
I have a sort of bet noir with things where the accents are wrong
I talked to the producers and to Netflix and locations about getting that right
And we did probably save some money by shooting in Cape Cod
not shooting on the actual island of Nantucket
Though a lot of the exteriors are Nantucket
so we certainly allocated our resources to get the look and feel of New England right
we didn’t want to skimp on the clothes
The clothes are a huge character in the show
is an absolute genius with color and sense of place
That’s where our resources were spent
We don’t have a ton of visual effects
Did you feel any pressure to distinguish this from shows like The White Lotus or Big Little Lies
but the thought that this show would even be included in the same category as Big Little Lies or The White Lotus makes me so happy that no
I only felt the pressure to get this show to a level where it might be included or mentioned in the same breath as those shows
which I think is the best-written show I’ve ever seen in my life
So I did aspire to literally be mentioned in the same breath as those shows
just the raw form of some of his Big Little Lies scripts
and I of course watched and re-watched all episodes of Succession and The White Lotus because those three shows are really the tops for me

As the celebrations for International Women's Rights Month continues for CAFOnline.com
the spotlight continues to be shined upon women who shape and positively influence the women’s game in Africa
Lamia Boumehdi - a former Moroccan international turned coach and instructor
she has transformed challenges into opportunities and established herself as a key figure in women's football on the continent
Her story is one of a passion that transcends obstacles
By becoming one of the first female coaches in Morocco
Her success with TP Mazembe that saw them crowned African champions at the Women's Champions League
reflects the talent and seriousness she brings to her work
the tactician enthusiastically shares her experience
and vision for the future of women’s football
she also delivers a powerful message to young girls aspiring to have a career in this field
you were first a player before becoming a coach
and what motivated you to pursue this career
Lamia Boumehdi: The transition was not easy
and I was among the first in Morocco to go down that path
Moving from being a player to a coach requires a profound mental and psychological change
I followed a five-month program at the University of Leipzig
where I learned all the aspects of the profession: technique
An injury forced me to stop my playing career
Have you faced any prejudices or resistance as a female coach
Some people still believe that a woman's place is not on a football field
You are a pioneer of African women's football
several African countries have professional leagues
The organization of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco was a major turning point with remarkable popular enthusiasm
The Women’s Champions League has also allowed clubs to structure themselves
With the emergence of new competitions like the Club World Cup or the Women's Futsal World Cup
supported by CAF through initiatives like coaching training and the development of school competitions
Do you have any role models who have inspired your journey
She never let difficulties get her down and passed on this strength to me
despite the criticism from those who thought it was abnormal for a girl to play football
What should be done to encourage more women to become coaches
With the growth of women’s football in Africa
more and more women want to pursue these careers
The current generation offers a positive model that motivates young girls
We must continue to provide them with the means to train and professionalize
Winning the Women’s Champions League with TP Mazembe after just a year and a half of work
such success comes after four or five years of development
and what impact has it had on women’s football in the Democratic Republic of Congo
but we quickly had to turn the page and focus on the next edition
This victory had a direct impact on the women’s championship in the DRC: teams are structuring themselves more because they aspire to qualify for the Champions League
Merveille Kanjinga went to Paris Saint-Germain after this success
It’s tremendous pride to see a player trained here join a major club like PSG
She is the first Congolese player to sign directly with a European professional club
and it shows the quality of the work done here
You recently took charge of the Leopards Women’s team in the qualifications for CAN 2026
This wasn’t my first experience leading a national team; I had already coached Morocco
the conditions were unique: I took on the role two days before the first match against Botswana
It is important for the federation to continue investing in women’s football because the potential is immense
You are keen to develop training with TP Mazembe’s academy
The academy brings together young players who train with the senior team
as there is no youth championship in the DRC
they finished third in the national championship
We are counting on them to ensure the future and sustainably structure women’s football at TP Mazembe and in the DRC
What advice would you give to young girls aspiring to a career in football
But the most important thing is to overcome them and persevere until you achieve your goal
The altercation, marked by verbal abuse, curses, and physical aggression, ended with Sapios being detained and subsequently transferred to the psychiatric clinic of the University Hospital of Larissa for evaluation
Despite attempts by bystanders and police to calm him
Sapios allegedly tried to physically confront the officers
Video footage from lamiareport.gr captured the chaotic scene
showing the cleric struggling with police as he demanded his plates back
“They arrested me while I had the Holy Communion on me
Who’s really resisting here—me or them against Christ?” he later argued
Police eventually detained him, and after further outbursts at the station, he was transferred to the psychiatric clinic in Larissa
Sapios wishes to return to his monastery in Stylida
but his mental state is still being assessed
who serves as the abbot of the Monastery of Saint George Neraida in Stylida
has cultivated a reputation as an outspoken and polarizing figure
In another notable incident during Apostolos Gletsos’ tenure as mayor of Stylida
Sapios demanded that the municipal garbage truck service his monastery
threatening to involve the regional governor if his request was denied
pointing out that the monastery did not pay municipal fees and citing a lack of resources
Eyewitnesses also reported that prior to the confrontation
Sapios had caused a minor traffic accident and abandoned his vehicle in the middle of the road
A female driver involved in the collision asked him to file a report
only to return and find police removing his plates
they want to ‘eat’ me too.” Sapios portrayed himself as a martyr
suggesting a conspiracy against him due to his faith and prominence
“The whole of Greece knows who I am,” he declared
The story of Ignatios Sapios—a cleric with a history of defiance—serves as a striking example of the tensions that can arise between tradition and modernity in contemporary Greek society
Whether this incident will lead to further legal consequences or simply add to his controversial legacy remains to be seen

life and storm: the fabulous Greek singer and collaborators transport us across centuries and countries
Savina Yannatou is a fabulous Greek singer whose work over the last five decades hasn’t stood still
Her CV includes interpretations of early music
composing for video art and improvisations with Can’s Damo Suzuki
Her new album with Greek jazz ensemble and long-term collaborators Primavera en Salonica and Tunisian singer Lamia Bedioui is a global tour of traditional songs about water: how it can be balm and curse
View image in fullscreenSavina Yannatou, Primavera en Salonico and Lamia Bedioui: Watersong Photograph: ECM RecordsWatersong begins beautifully, in Greece
Singing of a mid-summer ritual in which girls place charms in a pot of clean water to be left outside bathed in starlight
Yannatou dusts the beautiful melody with melancholy
Naanaa Algenina (Garden Mint)/Ivana mixes folk songs from Aswan in Egypt and North Macedonia into a wild
wayward concoction: Yannatou and Bedioui’s opening stunning harmonies twist into a middle section in which Yannatou gasps and ululates around stuttering instruments
she gives Cypriot traditional song Ai Giorkis (St George) a sultry edge and Spanish ballad A los Baños del Amor (At the Baths of Love) a hymnal glow
but it is filled with intensely modern moments
Michalis Siganidis’s double bass in Greek carol Kalanta of the Theophany has motorik-like propulsion
The 10th-century Arabic poem Mawal (To the Mourning Dove I Said) comes across as an avant garde contemporary prayer
setting a tangle of percussion against Yannatou and Bedioui’s spoken-word delivery
Traditional instruments such as Kostas Vomvolos’ qanun (an Arabic zither) and Harris Lambrakis’s ney (a Persian flute) also add drama and dreaminess
This album sets traditional music flowing and crashing in many unexpected
and a fascination with pulling back the curtains on the imperfections of the uber-wealthy
she can only dream that The Perfect Couple would be uttered in the same breath of comparison as a show like The White Lotus
But the reality is that the six-episode series perfectly indulges in the same qualities of intrigue as its show predecessors — complicated family dynamics that take only a slight tug to unravel
The series centers on the wedding between Benji Windbury (Billy Howle) and his fiancé
Benji comes from an elite family that is used to getting what they want and is willing to pay a hefty price to ensure it
is the black sheep in Benji’s life who can’t quite seem to fit into the polished lifestyle Benji’s mother so desperately wants for him
What was your vision for bringing Elin Hildenbrand’s novel to life on the screen
I was sitting in Maine at this dockside restaurant called the Contented Soul and eating a lobster roll…and I had an email from Gail Burman saying
I have this book that I just got the rights to
I think you could be the right writer for it
but I can send you the book so you can read it.’
That sounds like the perfect setting to get that email
I didn’t even finish reading the email; I just replied immediately
‘You don’t need to send me the book; I read it the moment it came out
and this is her only murder mystery to date — because it was at the time — I am definitely the right writer.’ I then flew out to L.A
to talk to Gail and Elin — who couldn’t be a more dream author to collaborate with — but we talked a little bit about how I would adapt it and how much it meant to me to get Nantucket right
Do your thing; I’m your cheerleader.’
You changed the main character’s name from the book from Celeste to Amelia
that happened after Nicole [Kidman] came on board to play Greer because she plays an iconic character in Big Little Lies
is that the more you get to know the characters
the more you realize they’re all kind of terrible
but they’re terrible in their own specific
Was the goal to make them all so uniquely flawed that the real killer would be very hard to pick out
And I love the way you said that because I think that’s true in real life
just a bad person or unlikable person at first — stick around because maybe they still aren’t great people
but there are reasons why people act the way they do
but I’m just saying that I think our society is at a place where we’re so quick to judge and write others off
be they on the other side of the political spectrum
or they have a different set of beliefs or a different approach to life from yours
And I think it’s important to remember that most people
are probably decent and good and have had a completely different life experience than you have
not if they’re treating you horribly
but if they seem like a judgmental jerk or something
So you complicate the “who done it?” aspect by giving all the characters shades of decency and devilish behavior
I love that you had that experience watching this show because I ultimately love all of these [characters]; they’re real people to me
not only as individuals but also in terms of their relationships with one another
but I think the audience can also look forward to reveals other than just “who done it?” Meaning
what drives certain characters to act the way they do
I think that’s what I love so much about Amelia; she doesn’t seem concerned with the judgment of others
and I think she is an incredible superpower that I wish I had at her age
the constant calculation of who the killer is never stops churning…
As you watch the show and get to know them all
and the ones who seemed perfect at first clearly will not be
And the ones who seemed perfectly rootable at first will be revealed to have weaknesses
There are many subtle ways the viewer finds out things are terribly amiss in the Winbury household like Greer looking for the bracelet receipt and realizing Tag is cheating on her
Do you work these types of subtle moments into the script
That’s absolutely something I worked into the script from an early stage
only because that’s how life is; we almost never state the subtext in our everyday conversations
And there are ways in which you can be harsher when you’re not direct because they have to figure out just exactly how angry you are or just exactly how upset or disappointed you are because you didn’t come right out and say it
I do think that that’s how this kind of family communicates with one another
So even though the Winburys seem like an atypical family—hugely wealthy
clearly dysfunctional—they’re quite typical in how they communicate with each other
The only writing choice involved is authenticity
If you can ultimately achieve a certain level of authenticity
Even the most serious moments in life have a tad of humor in them
So that’s what I was looking to capture in these scripts
I want to return to what you said about the rewriting for certain cast members
Do you mean you adapted their dialogue once you saw how they played the character
There was some rewriting once I saw things in the mouths of the characters
and she thought that there was a chance that Nicole might find this fun
and wanted me to take a look at the first script with Nicole in mind
but I didn’t dare to dream that we would ever actually get her
But I did spend that Christmas rewriting the first episode with Nicole front of mind — which is an incredible exercise for a writer because having a real person whose work you’re lucky enough to already know very well in your mind when thinking about the monologues and some of the scenes
it just brought a whole new layer to the script
including how she crafted the crucial penultimate episode five cliffhanger
how Meghann Fahy brought the character of Merritt Monaco to life

A new era of storytelling is taking shape in the heart of the Middle East
At the helm of this shift are communications leaders Lamia Kamel and Hania Amr Moussa
who have announced the launch of The Global Narrative—a Cairo- and Riyadh-based firm dedicated to redefining how Egypt and the region engage with the world
With deep roots in strategic communications and years of influence through the Narrative Summit
the duo now expands their vision into a full-fledged platform
But The Global Narrative isn’t just another PR agency—it’s a cultural catalyst designed to elevate Egypt’s global image through strategic visibility
“Today’s world demands substance over spectacle,” says Kamel
“Our goal is to champion Egypt’s voice and influence—not just as a destination
but as a force of cultural and intellectual value.”
From promoting public figures to reshaping nation-wide perception campaigns
and entire countries with narratives that matter
“We’re not here to broadcast,” adds Moussa
The launch marks a natural evolution from their previous work
but also a bold departure—transforming the way the region tells its story on a global stage

Lamia Chowdhury, the daughter of late film actors Diti and Sohel Chowdhury, has alleged that she was attacked in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The incident reportedly took place today (Saturday) around 3:00 pm. She informed The Daily Star that she had been subjected to an attack due to a clash over her ancestral property.
During the attack, Lamia went live on Facebook, where several individuals were seen aggressively approaching her and her relatives. Lamia stated that the attackers hurled bricks at their car, shattering its windows.
As she spoke, Lamia broke down in tears, sobbing uncontrollably. She continued, "Both my parents are gone, and they left this land for us, but we can't even claim it. People from all directions are trying to seize our property. My brother is not in the country, and I am managing everything alone. That's why they are targeting me like this. This has been going on for years—I cannot even explain the suffering. My life is in danger. I am alone, and these criminals know it."
Lamia added, "Everyone knows that my parents have passed away. They want to take advantage of that, assuming that because I am a woman, I will be scared by threats and intimidation. But no, this is our ancestral property, my brother's and mine. Our parents worked hard to acquire this land. I will not give it up to violent criminals. Our relatives live there, and today I witnessed the attackers locking them inside their house from the outside."
On Facebook, Lamia posted, "Is there no one with me? Just because my parents are gone, does that mean I have no one? No one, no one, no one." At 4:10 pm, she made another post, stating, "They broke my leg. They are not even letting me go to the hospital. They threw bricks at my car and shattered it. I cannot walk."

Who said stripped back had to mean stripped down? Stylist and designer Lamia Rady serves sharp cuts, bold tailoring, and clean lines with a kick.
Minimalism doesn’t always play it soft. Sometimes, it struts in sculptural tailoring, structured silhouettes, and a well-placed cutout, and Lamia Rady knows exactly how to make that kind of statement. A designer, stylist, and art director all in one, Rady’s eye is razor-sharp and effortlessly cool. Whether she’s styling a celebrity or crafting sculptural looks for her brand Rigash, her work always walks the line between minimalist and bold, polished and provocative.
“My personal style is minimal with a twist— edgy, bold, and statement-driven,” she tells Scene Styled. That means sculptural leather, cinched waists, architectural sleeves, and the kind of restraint that feels deliberate, not dull. “I love how brands like Celine or Margiela do it—clean, but never boring. I want Rigash to feel like that too. Minimal, but not forgettable.”
It’s that stripped-back energy Lamia Rady does best, where minimalism comes with a sharp, knowing wink– which is exactly why we tapped her for this week’s Selects.
“Brown is the new black– it’s effortless, rich and timeless,” she says to SceneStyled.

Showrunner Jenna Lamia tells TheWrap how Elin Hilderbrand’s novel made it to the screen with a star-studded cast
“The Perfect Couple” has all the makings of a prestige drama akin to the likes of “Big Little Lies” and “The Undoing”: a star-studded cast
a murder mystery that unravels the façade of an upperclass community and
But the Elin Hilderbrand adaptation had a much different start as a network pilot
which initially went into development at Fox in 2019 as a coproduction between Fox and SideCar
It was then SideCar’s Gail Berman who emailed Jenna Lamia (“Good Girls,” “Awkward.”) about the potential of coming onboard as a writer — and Lamia was immediately sold
“I didn’t even finish reading the email — I wrote back
I read it last summer when it came out … I’m a huge fan — what do I have to do to convince you that I’m a writer?’” showrunner Lamia told TheWrap
“So it was a rare thing where I was just hugely passionate from day one
and I could see what I thought the show should be
After officially landing the greenlight from Berman and meeting with Hilderbrand
Lamia went to work writing the pilot for “The Perfect Couple,” though it didn’t end up getting off the ground at Fox
It wasn’t until Lamia met with the team from Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps regarding a separate matter during the pandemic that the pilot came up again
With 21 Laps having just upped their deal at Netflix
Berman and Levy agreed to partner on the series and bring it to the streamer
“It already had a lot of life before we even got it to Netflix,” Lamia explained
it really freed me up creatively to write whatever version we all thought was the best and the most dynamic.”
Lamia recalled how she and the producers “dared to dream about prestige casting,” with Kidman at the forefront of Lamia’s mind
“We’ve been living through this time where movie stars are doing television
sexy projects can be limited series or even ongoing series,” she explained
but I didn’t even dare to hope that I would ever be in the same atmosphere as she is in any way
Lamia began writing the proud Winbury matriarch
thinking of the A-List actress down to the details of her wardrobe
“She was this fantasy in the back of my mind that I don’t even know if I talked to Elin about,” Lamia said
adding that the specificity that she imagined for Greer via Kidman helped the script take on “new life.”
“Even daring to dream that I might get a prestige cast
and we all started to think of the show in a different way,” she noted
“Then as we started to scout locations and think about the authenticity of Nantucket
it also became elevated in all of our lines and in some of the materials we were carrying back and forth in our writing process.”
Susanne Bier (“The Undoing,” “The First Lady”) joining as a director and executive producer also elevated the project further as she described the show as “elegant popcorn,” according to Lamia
With Bier having worked with Kidman on “The Undoing,” Bier challenged Lamia to sprinkle some more “special sauce” over the script during the holidays before bringing it to Kidman
a star-studded cast became to form around her in Liev Schreiber
“Each of them has a quality that’s incredibly compelling and a great piece of an overall palette that we were trying to build,” Lamia shared
“Because if you think of the show like a painting
light tones — it’s an incredibly tough balance
The humor is not something I think people are going to necessarily be expecting.”
a young woman marrying into the Winbury family through the middle son
whose perfect wedding weekend comes crashing down when a member of the wedding party is found dead
From when “The Perfect Couple” started as a network pilot
Lamia said the character of Amelia — who was renamed from Celeste in the books — went through several versions before landing on the edgier outsider seen in the Netflix series
“Celeste was not going to have a stutter anymore
which is a big part of her character in the book,” Lamia said
“It became clear to me that I needed the audience on her side very early on
and she does a few things that are hard to root for … She’s romantically confused
and her motivations for getting married are not necessarily pure
She had enough going on that giving her a physical obstacle was one thing too many.”
Whereas Greer’s other daughter-in-law
(Fanning) has conformed completely to the Winbury lifestyle of monogrammed robes and extravagant parties
but simply out of authenticity — which quickly creates what Lamia identifies as a “rivalry” between the two women
“[Amelia is] not from the world that Greer has clawed tooth and nail to dominate
and she really doesn’t care if that world accepts her or not
and that is terrifying to somebody who has spent most of their life crafting their public-facing image
and putting most of their energy and self worth into what others think,” Lamia said
“Along comes this young person who doesn’t give a s–t that would totally destabilize you and anger you
because it basically says you’ve wasted your life.”
the image of perfection that Greer has willed the Winbury family to embody slowly comes crashing down amid the murder investigation
Greer has been telling her children to sit up straight and … wear this pressed button down shirt to the first day of school — you can’t miss the message
we must appear well raised at all times,” Lamia said
“There are reasons for that that will be revealed.”
“The Perfect Couple” will be available to stream Thursday

Politics & Economics > ‘Women have run out of excuses’: Princess Lamia on what it takes to build the next generation
HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud on empowerment
and why the future belongs to those who seize it
HRH Princess Lamia bin Majed Al Saud makes quite the first impression
We as women have run out of ‘excuses.’ There’s no longer a clear barrier
It’s on us to succeed with it,” Princess Lamia says in her typical style
and if there is one battle that defines her legacy
it could be that of her commitment to women’s legal empowerment
was extraordinary – training 700 female lawyers and handling over 3,500 pro bono cases for women in need
‘Why are you making women legally aware?’ It wasn’t easy
We faced resistance – getting a permit wasn’t easy
Some officials questioned why we were even doing this.”
But Saudi Arabia was on the brink of transformation
When landmark legal reforms accelerated post-2015
instead becoming part of the machinery making it happen
Even the family law has changed – mothers’ rights
and Saudi women have proven their capability.”
She credits much of this progress to Saudi Arabia’s leadership
particularly Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
she also acknowledges that much of the groundwork for these achievements was laid by women who came before her – a mark of her characteristic humility
We’re not 15 years old; we’re grown women who had prepared for this time
That shows you a previous generation of mothers instilled that vision in us
When asked what she feels nations seeking similar transformation need
“They need King Salman and the Crown Prince
King Salman trusted Prince Mohammed – his vision
We’ve never had a leader at such a young age
Now you see how many opportunities are open
Princess Lamia’s upbringing prepared her for a life of boundary-breaking
Born to a Saudi father and an Egyptian mother
she grew up navigating two cultures: the free-flowing energy of Egypt and the structured traditions of Saudi Arabia
It was a duality that would later shape her mission in life – advancing women’s rights
“There was no media sector for females in Saudi Arabia
so the safest and easiest option was in Egypt.”
But safe and easy have never really been her path
quickly captured the attention of the Saudi prince
and grandson of the kingdom’s founder King Abdulaziz Al Saud
he asked to meet me.” What followed was the opportunity of a lifetime – taking charge of Rotana Magazine
one of the largest media conglomerates in the region
Her success in media might have been enough for most, but Princess Lamia operates on a different scale of ambition. As Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies
a foundation with a 45-year legacy of global impact
she is responsible for pioneering initiatives across 190 countries
the organisation’s impact is deeply personal
“We run more than 70 projects with 85 partners,” she explains
and we don’t just come to work – we believe in the cause.” And belief
it is about systemic solutions that create sustainable change
a move that aligned with the country’s broader social reforms
“Giving women the opportunity to drive was about more than mobility – it was about freedom
and creating opportunities that didn’t exist before.”
Her work with Alwaleed Philanthropies extends far beyond Saudi Arabia
and climate action – which can be seen in Atlai
“Atlai itself doesn’t reflect any single project we have – it’s somewhat like our Breakthrough Energy Venture with Bill Gates [the initiative aims to accelerate innovation in sustainable energy and in other technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions]
but we wanted something different,” she explains
“We created Atlai to track deforestation globally
The reach of these projects often extends beyond public recognition
“We have projects running in places where people don’t even know our name
The work matters more than the recognition.”
Princess Lamia doesn’t believe in complacency
She thrives in the space between what exists and what is possible
Her leadership in Rotana’s media empire provides a fascinating counterpoint to her philanthropic efforts
she has been key in guiding Rotana through the digital media revolution
balancing its rich legacy of traditional broadcasting with the demands of streaming
Research says AI will eliminate a lot of positions – call centres
The foundation and I want to create the first initiative that helps retrain these groups.” It is a vision rooted in her broader philosophy – change is inevitable
she wants to leverage it for inclusion and opportunity
Perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects of Princess Lamia’s career is her ability to connect seemingly disparate fields – media
and women’s empowerment – into a cohesive vision
As Saudi Arabia undergoes one of the most significant transformations in its history
figures like Princess Lamia are playing a vital role in shaping the nation’s new identity
Her work is not just about empowering women
it is about fostering a society where opportunity
but as part of a broader movement – one that ensures the next generation inherits a more equitable
she sees Alwaleed Philanthropies becoming a global case study for impact
“I think we’ll start exporting our model to other philanthropies – sharing how we handle projects remotely
“I want to run a marathon next year – 21 or 23 kilometres

Jenna Lamia explains why she pivoted to using it to clue audiences into the Netflix murder mystery being a “fun ride”
While “The Perfect Couple” viewers have been enjoying the opening credits’ flashy dance sequence which sees Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Dakota Fanning breaking it down to Meghan Trainor’s “Criminals,” the scene was originally supposed to happen in the series itself.
“It was planned to be part of the show,” showrunner Jenna Lamia told TheWrap. “It was a dream sequence that opened one of the episodes. And oddly enough, it started off as this very dark imagery.”
The dance sequence then turned into a teaser for an episode, but after seeing how well the cast picked up the choreography “in literally half a day,” Lamia had the idea to feature it more prominently.
“When Susanne [Bier] saw how smooth the cast’s moves were and how fun this was going to be, we realized that it would work incredibly well as the opening credits,” Lamia said.
With the Netflix series balancing what Lamia identifies as a “precarious tone,” the team decided that placing the dance sequence in the opening credits would signal to audiences right off the bat that “The Perfect Couple” is intended to be a good hang.
“It’s not a show that takes itself super seriously — it’s a roller coaster. You’ve got to wear your seat belt,” Lamia said. “Yes, there’s a murder, but you’re going to laugh, and hopefully you’re going to text your friends about whodunit. We took the swing, but we thought that version of the credits would cue people like, ‘Oh, this is a fun ride.’”
“The Perfect Couple” is now streaming on Netflix.

EK flirted with defeat at the OPAP Arena in their first match in front of their fans in this season’s Super League (their opening match against OFI was played behind closed doors)
AEK flirted with defeat at the OPAP Arena in their first match in front of their fans in this season’s Super League (their opening match against OFI was played behind closed doors)
but ultimately avoided the worst against Lamia (1-1) thanks to corrective moves by Matías Almeyda and a goal by Harold Mukudi in the 87th minute
Lamia had taken the lead in the 39th minute with Gustavo Furtado
AEK became more aggressive in the second half
they struggled to finish until Mukudi stepped up
AEK had two shots hit the post—one from Eliasson in the 90+2 minute and another from Koita in the 90+6 minute
showing mobility and creating chances early on
waiting for Matías Almeyda’s players in their own half
which made it difficult for AEK to threaten Kostis’ goal
AEK had their first good opportunity when Mukudi tried to head in a corner kick from Amrabat
The Lamia goalkeeper did the same in the 26th minute
who had received a pass from Ljubicic and attempted a curling shot
Levi Garcia missed two chances to open the scoring
The first attempt saw him send the ball over the bar from the edge of the box
and the second was a direct free-kick from Pineda that was blocked by the wall
giving the visitors a 1-0 lead with Lamia’s only shot up to that point
The play was checked by VAR for a potential handball by Ring earlier
Levi Garcia tried twice with headers to equalize
Both coaches made no changes at the start of the second half
AEK became even more aggressive in search of an equalizer
Almeyda made two substitutions in the 58th minute
bringing on Lamela and Eliasson for Pineda and Amrabat
and the ball went out off Garcia’s foot
bringing on Mantalos and Oduvayo for Szymanski and Rota
AEK continued to press but couldn’t find the back of the net
Lamia’s coach made changes in the 76th minute
bringing on Sandberg and Dendakis for Andrade (who was injured) and Sarandas
Tschuber replaced Ljubicic in the 78th minute as Almeyda did everything he could to change the game for his team
Tschuber and Koita sent the ball wide and over the bar in the 82nd minute
Vlachomitros broke through AEK’s defense and beat Strakosha
Tereziou came on for Ring for the visitors
the goal that AEK desperately sought came from Mukudi in the 87th minute
the Cameroonian stopper headed the ball into the net to make it 1-1
giving it their all in the final minutes but were denied by the woodwork twice
first by Eliasson in the 90+2 minute and then by Koita in the 90+6 minute
