Serious damage to the underground bed of the Kifissos River in Athens has been identified by a team of speleologists
The team was conducting an underground expedition and had reached a section beneath the Kifissou KTEL bus terminal
when they came across a hill of trash and debris as well as a lake that may have formed as a result of the bottom being destroyed
The findings highlight the necessity of inspecting the stability of the surface and cleaning the subsurface riverbed because nobody wants to consider what may occur if the Kifissos were to “clog up” during a significant downpour
The exploration was carried out last Sunday by five people from the Geomythiki group (Giorgos Kafantaris
a group of cavers who carry out “urban explorations.”
The group started their expedition from the point where the Kifissos is “undergrounded,” at the border of Nea Chalkidona with the Municipality of Athens
in order to cross the 7 kilometers of the underground route (up to the level of the Nikaia-Renti junction)
in the end they managed to reach only halfway
running into insurmountable obstacles beneath the KTEL station

Public opinion is mixed following the 28 October parade of students from the municipality of New Philadelphia-Nea Chalkidona in Athens
A group of girls did the Monty Python walk as part of the parade to the bemusement of the crowds
Social media was abuzz with reactions with many criticising the students of attempting to ridiculed the dead heroes of 1940
while others viewed the walk as humorous and an effective form of protest
The local mayor had termed the girls move as ‘pathetic’ and their was public outrage
though a number of people also moved in their defence in drawing attention to the current situation within Greece using this form of protest

The local media reported that the girls were not from the school of Nea Philadelphia-Nea Chalkidona
though they paraded between the 3rd Junior High School of Nea Philadelphia and the General Lyceum of Nea Chalkidona
The girls let out different chicken sounds as they marched
the other a bird – with their sketch presented with dead-pan seriousness
“‘What can militarism have to do with freedom
What can the defence of a people’s freedom have to do with the patriotism we teach from young children

In a statement published by daily newspaper Efsyn
the girls said their walk was inspired by ‘the great field-marshal of English comedy John Cleese and by all that is taught by Monty Python’

The unusual march of some girls at the 28 October parade in Nea Philadelphia-Nea Chalkidona caused fury and outrage among our readers
Below is a selection of some of the comments as they appeared on our Facebook page:
George Vardas I am sorry but the Monty Python skit on the Ministry of Silly Walks was a satiric take on middle class bureaucratic bungling in the UK
I fail to see the humour in trying (badly) to mimic John Cleese and company in a march commemorating one of Greece’s most solemn days and a defining moment in its modern history
Polytemy Mary Lazanas Wonder if they will act this way at a family member’s funeral because that’s what these marches are essentially

Constantine Spiropoulos A protest at a time of austerity

what is there to march for in post-GFC Greece
Helen Bizos Constantine Spiropoulos decency has nothing to do with economics… Sad state of affairs…
Giannis Kitsopoulos Nobody is making fun of the handicapped
they are making fun of the state and the stupid marching of schools
Helen Karahalios There’s a time & place for silliness and it’s not here
I haven’t seen one Greek defend this stupidity since it happened
Ange GT What was the point in marching like idiots
Thodoris Karakozidis Global ρεζιλίκι…
Name and shame this school if indeed they were even legally part of the parade
Helen Bizos Whether they were legally or illegally part of the parade is irrelevant… It says a lot about upbringing.
Grigorios Ilias The constant and orchestrated attempt by the left-wing decadents
and recently with the ridiculous mockery of the institution of the parade and flag
Thalia Alex This is so disrespectful to what this day symbolises for Greece…
Elle Karapanou They are just trying to make a political statement people
Angelique Kitsopoulou Well that was the best march we have seen… It was a statement and it put a message through to those with eyes about the school system in Greece… Well done girls
Hats off… So much better than grabbing a gun and shooting in a school which America has made into a daily routine
Instead of criticising trying looking deeper into what this really represents and no they are not making fun of the handicapped…
Arthur Katris Their teachers should be kicked up the rear end if that’s what they teaching these idiots!!
even if they were activists as you are saying
I am sorry but this behaviour is not acceptable for everything
and this was not the time nor the place to insult all those generations that passed before us
what has the government got to do with the march
If they want to go make a statement in regards to the government
I’m sure if your family members had died in a war for your country
it’s all about pleasing people’s personal egos in our current society

then that community/nation ceases to exist
The poison responsible for this deliberate behaviour can be traced to the ministries of education

The results either way will be catastrophic
