A 33-year-old man was killed and a police officer injured early Saturday after being struck by a truck on a road in the northern region of Halkidiki. The incident occurred around 4.45 a.m. at the 41st kilometer mark on the Nea Moudania-Sarti provincial road near Agios Nikolaos in Sithonia. Police were responding to a reported altercation between two drivers who had stopped at the roadside. The victim was reportedly one of the drivers involved. Under still unclear circumstances, a passing truck struck both the man and a 46-year-old police officer, who was transported to Polygyros general hospital with injuries. The 62-year-old truck driver is in custody as Sithonia police carry out a preliminary investigation.
