page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page I came to Microsoft at the beginning of 2021 This is a company with an incredible corporate culture that nurtures diversity and inclusion; therefore the very start in the company was quite natural as the next step in my career path and a part of my continuous learning Working here brings both many challenges and great satisfaction Managing a team of dedicated professionals in the largest company in the world I strongly believe in its vision to enable all people and organizations to achieve more I have a twenty-year career in ICT and more than ten years of work in management positions worldwide – from sales to operations direct relationship with clients or internal corporate affairs but always with the focus on users or customers Many would agree that Microsoft is not just a company; it’s an institution What’s it like to be at the forefront of one of the largest companies in the world It’s my pleasure to be a part of the Microsoft team The company has been present in Serbia for 20 years and practices from other markets into our local community and the country and help grow digital development in Serbia We support startup community through cooperation with our partners as this represents a direct investment into the digitalization which strongly impacts the country’s overall development national startups can apply for support via Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub and support to get to the next stage of development; we offer the possibility to build or improve your business and sell your solution through Microsoft channels and services for market entry with Azure credits amounting to 150,000 USD we support the digitalization of state administration and we have HoloLens as the mixed-reality product which has found its use in the latter two fields We are incredibly proud when our technology is used in practice through the projects initiated by our users as is the case with the project run by the Gallery of Matica Srpska the exhibitions will be guided with the help of the HoloLens 2 headset so that every visitor will have a new dimension of digitalized multi-media experience in art collections thanks to the mixed reality What was your vision when you came to the company placing Serbia at the very top of the Central and Eastern European region To be a leader means to be authentic and ready to be dedicated to learning throughout all your working life; it means you need to be at disposal and at service to your team I am sure that successful leaders inspire their teams in the right way through their own personal qualities and that means you need to invest in new knowledge to follow trends My example speaks for itself because I have learned a lot in a very short time Microsoft has so much to offer that you learn something new every day because the corporate portfolio is wholesome and abundant but also in the sense of managing systems such as Microsoft I find that focusing on clients is extremely important What did you have to adapt to in accordance with the position you hold My coming into the company coincided with the already familiar situation all the world has encountered so this type of adaptation to the new circumstances and hybrid work were the greatest challenge The nature of this position implies frequent contact with a large number of people When you meet your associates “online” with whom you are to create further or follow the existing corporate visions that is not an advantage but rather a more challenging task in a hybrid environment nonetheless achievable with mutual respect and open two-way communication hybrid work is commonplace for many; leaders nowadays have to reevaluate work models as this is the key to creating attractive and quality teams Data show that interest in the IT industry in the last several years has been on the rise and it seems that the current crisis does not interfere with this trend How many people are employed in Microsoft Serbia – both from Serbia and abroad and the positions are often open within our sales teams The total number of new people we hired only in the last year is over a hundred We employ the best talents from the country and the region and thus close the circle from talent development to the country’s digitalization Microsoft Development Center Serbia was comprised of only several people in the beginning; now We also work on hiring people from abroad actively and constantly there are more than 60 people from a dozen foreign countries We continue to invest in our industry and the development of experts What makes the experts apply for a job in your company: high salary What attracts foreigners to be ready to relocate to work in Microsoft Microsoft sets trends in the digital world thanks to the innovativeness of its employees There is plenty of room for ideas as well as place for learning and professional and personal development but the business environment is the key to making ideas become innovations That attracts many young people who have the opportunity to improve their knowledge with us and also to learn how a multi-national business operates The work in a multi-cultural and multi-national environment enables knowledge to grow and teams to improve approach to diversity and inclusion in Microsoft is much valued; here Due to the application and usage of digital tools in everyday work we successfully balance work and free time and have the necessary flexibility in performing tasks The combination of corporate culture and digital tools is essential in this segment and physical location most often does not count at all because the corporate culture is the same everywhere and I am positive that our hospitality is a plus the ICT industry in Serbia is evolving rapidly so the local market has become competitive with other markets attracting people from different countries and our people wanting to return from abroad to contribute to the country’s general development Which characteristics do you value more: who is the person applying for the job and development orientation are just some of the critical values Formal education and employee experience are not essential factors in the hiring process It is also crucial that an individual’s personal values coincide with the values of the company which is socially responsible and whose priority is that your work actually contributes to society What are the most wanted positions in your company Our Development Center most often hires software engineers of different profiles there are also positions for product managers you will be developing some of the top and most innovative Microsoft products You will be the link between abstract concepts and solutions and you will become someone who understands the user and develops applications that make a difference Microsoft Serbia also hires marketing and sales people for regional positions but you can also cover other markets – your location is not important; your quality is What would you say to young talents dreaming of working in Microsoft one day the skills we own will not have the same worth; their shelf-life is limited a person’s current skillset will value less than today and skills are the basic tool for career development and achievement of wanted business results The workforce with more qualifications contributes more to economic growth and competitiveness we should continuously and constantly improve ourselves and learn Source: “BITI LIDER ZNAČI BITI AUTENTIČAN I POSVEĆEN UČENJU” Milan Gospić za “Blic Biznis” o svojim počecima i potencijalu domaćeg IT tržišta Danijel Gospic is currently looking to raise investment to build a 10,000 tonne vertically integrated African catfish farm in Croatia He currently operates two farms and has helped to develop dozens of others in Slovenia and its neighbouring countries – covering a diverse range of species including carp Having been planning the continent's largest catfish farm for the last five years he explains why now is the time to put his plans into action Europe has long tradition of producing African catfish starting in the Netherlands in the late 1970s where it is produced in flow-through systems with geothermal water I’ve been working with African catfish since 2006 and it’s a dream species to farm for many aspects: European aquaculture suffers from environmental restraints high production costs and strict legislation but Europe imports a lot of fish from countries with lower standards produced in an environmentally friendly way with high standards and an acceptable price There is no other species even close to African catfish African catfish has meat with fine structure It has big potential for mass consumption because it combines an acceptable price local production and other benefits currently important for consumers I see potential for European-produced catfish to replace a proportion of the 160,000 tonnes of pangasius currently imported annually and filling the gap caused by the decline in the production of carp and trout in Europe So far our company, G2O has made six RAS systems for African catfish and the Croatian company Ribnjaci Kupa supports us in testing and developing African catfish RAS in the facility that we designed and built for them During the last 10 years we have fine-tuned our understanding of producing African catfish in RAS Our own RAS facility will be the ultimate proof of concept Most freshwater fish farms are too small for global market and too big for local market Production is fragmented and not vertically integrated That’s why our plan is to develop a vertically integrated African catfish farm with minimum capacity of 10,000 tonnes Upscaling to this size allows us to integrate a processing facility biogas power plant and waste product upcycling facility Full control of the whole production cycle cuts the production costs and provides efficient quality control management The fish will be produced with unbeatable production costs with unbeatable quality control management The utilisation of fish processing waste and RAS waste in our own biogas power plant can – in combination with solar panels – cover the needs for both electrical power and heat energy that will be used in the RAS and fish feed factory our integrated facility will only require feed ingredients while one two products will leave our vertically integrated African catfish farms: catfish fillets and biogas digestate (organic fertilisers) the fish will be produced with unbeatable production costs Our design will reduce the footprint needed to one third of that required by competitors reduce energy consumption below 0.5 kWh/kg consumed feed and fuse hatchery fingerling production and on-growing in same building – minimising capital investment and running costs Such systems can be done in basically any location globally and they don’t require much water or land the end products will have a competitive price for any market globally are extremely expensive and the final product cannot compete with conventionally farmed fish high volumes and competitive priced products Our team has been planning this project for about five years our idea was to build the facility in an industrial zone but connecting effluent water to a municipal sewage treatment facility would increase running costs and was against our zero waste strategy Previous experiences of African catfish RAS systems located on common carp farms proved to us that catfish effluent can stimulate plankton formation and we have two potential locations in Croatia The total investment required is between €60-80 million Croatia has EU funding available to co-finance up to 60 percent of aquaculture projects We plan to spend two years for obtaining permits and finalising the design of the facility The next three years will be for the construction and starting full production When we reach full scale production we can replace about 3 percent of Europe’s existing pangasius imports Future declines in carp and trout production in Europe I believe that biggest contribution of this project will be in offering a template for many similar facilities in Europe and worldwide has been writing about aquaculture since 2007 He has an MA in history from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in sustainable aquaculture from the University of St Andrews where he worked as a mechanic.During the war he served as a commanding officer in the Croatian Army's reconnaissance and sabotage team and in the Gospić surveillance and interception center He repeatedly refused to carry out orders that contravened fundamental human values and his own moral and personal convictions. At the end of the conflict he decided to testify before the Hague Tribunal about the war crimes committed by the Croatian Army against civilians Levar recounted everything he had witnessed such as the meeting with Tihomir Orešković and Croatian army general Mirko Norac: "Dead people and the meeting was held in the midst of all that blood I am of the view that Norac and Orešković were the ones who gave the orders and committed war crimes." The two were later found guilty and sentenced to 15 and 12 years in prison the ICC asked the Croatian government to place him under protection Levar has always refused to change his identity or leave Gospić His choice led to numerous death threats against him and his family members Levar was killed by a bomb placed in the courtyard of his machine shop in Gospić His death turned into a reminder of how incapable Croatia was of dealing with the past and the memory of war his killers have not been identified. In August 2020 a memorial ceremony was organized in Gospić with the attendance of his widow Vesna and the Center for Confrontation with the Past (Documenta - Centar za suočavanje s prošlošću) in Zagreb "Milan Levar knew what he was doing: - it was said during the commemoration - he wanted to talk about what he saw despite a national code of silence in place". For his actions Milan Levar was awarded the Duško Kondor Civil Courage Award in 2014 This biography is taken from the warehouses has been left empty and decaying for decades while potential investors who do happen to have come and gone all gave up on starting any sort of production within the facility that unfortunate picture is changing for the better and the production plant has started being used by two Croatian companies which deal with different activities which have created new jobs in production with the aim of further expansion and they have invested money and time to put the situation in the neglected PPK Velebit Gospic complex into some sort of order the area around it was properly arranged and the storage areas were put back into operation after a very long time have been delving into entrepreneurial waters for about twenty years now Their company currently employs twelve workers and by the end of the investment cycle that number should increase to thirty employees The company´s main business segment relates to the production of windshields and noise barriers as well as the creation of mobile homes from recycled materials for which the Sincek couple won a gold medal in the category a special award from the fair organisers and the Grand Prix of the European Association of Innovators Their first mobile home was recently delivered from Gospic to Petrinja as a donation for a family left without accommodation following the devastating earthquake in December 2020 In addition to this investment in the second part of the complex Sandro Babic is investing in a plant for the production of tortillas which should come to life in the period ahead of us All works are proceeding according to the expected dynamics the first tortillas produced in the former PPK Velebit Gospic complex will soon be on Croatian store shelves and the enterprise owners bringing it back to life expressed their joint satisfaction with the current cooperation with the mayor and the professional services undetaken by the Gospic and its local administration which was made available to them at all times the former PPK Velebit Gospic complex will be operational again after a full thirty years the people of Gospic could soon get new catering and tourist facilities at the top of the silo This is an example of a very good practice of attracting investors new jobs will be created in production when both plants are fully operational and this will be the direction that Gospic will be heading in in the future job creation in production is the only sustainable way of ensuring Croatian demographic renewal For the latest travel info, bookmark our main travel info article, which is will be returned to his home town of Gospić The original Tesla monument that once stood in the central town square created by Croatian sculptor Frano Kršinić was blown up during the 1990s Homeland War Gospić mayor Karlo Starčević today signed a contract approving construction works for the renovation of the square in front of the Gospić Culture Information Centre where the Nikola Tesla statue will be placed The contract is worth about HRK 1.8 million The location where the monument will stand is planned as a quiet area with several benches and gravel footpaths The statue is an exact replica of the one previously lost to Gospić Copies of this statue currently reside outside the School of Electrical Engineering section of Belgrade University and on the American side of Niagara Falls (main pioneering the alternating current (AC) electricity supply system AC enables electricity to be provided safely to every home Tesla was born in 1856 in the village of Smiljan his family moved to Gospić where Tesla’s father worked as an Orthodox parish priest Nikola Tesla himself was supposed to follow his father and his mother’s father into the Orthodox priesthood In 1870, Nikola Tesla moved to nearby Karlovac to attend the Higher Real Gymnasium A new Nikola Tesla exhibition centre is currently being built there next door to the place of his former studies After Karlovac, Nikola Tesla continued his studies in Austria and then spent some time teaching and working in Hungary He eventually got a job working for Thomas Edison’s company in Paris his incredibly innovative work was soon noticed and he was invited to go and work for the company in America pictured before his work in America © State Archives Thomas Edison – also a pioneering inventor – is frequently cited as one of the most innovative figures in the development of electricity supply Edison was adamant that direct current (DC) would be the best way to distribute electricity The DC system he championed was in direct competition to that proposed by his one-time employee the DC system he fought hard to impose proved to be impractical and unsafe became the standard supply system that the world uses today Nikola Tesla stayed in America for the rest of his life and continued to create countless pioneering inventions He worked within the fields of early x-rays interest in the enigmatic Nikola Tesla has only method for intensifying the production of carp and other species that has recently been successful in Eastern Europe So argues Dr Danijel Gospic, director of G2O which operates two farms and has helped to develop dozens of others in Slovenia and the surrounding countries – covering a diverse range of species including carp Their own farms are a tank-by-pond system in an intensive carp farm They are also in the process of building an RAS for African catfish production which is due to become operational this year Speaking at a recent tilapia webinar organised by the Association of International Seafood Professionals Dr Gospic outlined the benefits and key production protocols for using a “super-intensive tank-by-pond system” This system enabled G2O to produce over 10 kg of carp per m3 per year (200 tonnes per hectare) compared to 0.5 to 1 tonne per hectare in traditional extensive carp ponds – many of which are now abandoned due to the high cost of updating the necessary infrastructure after years of neglect and underinvestment which is not very innovative and we want to include in these farms a step-by-step-system of innovative farming and one of this is the tank-by-pond-system which is not very innovative and we want to include in these farms a step-by-step-system of innovative farming and one of this is the tank-by-pond-system,” he explained To illustrate the tank-by-pond method Dr Gospic highlighted a 1 ha trout farm that included a number of 50 m diameter concrete tanks at its edge which receive a low volume of water from the main pond and – with added aeration – are used to produce carp at densities of between 10 to 20 kg per m3 “With a liquid oxygen supply we can grow up to 50 kg of carp per m3 ,” he explained “We all know that future production of any species will not be based in the ponds requires excessive land utilisation; the water footprint is not very favourable because of evaporation and we know that shortage of water is global at the moment,” he added Dr Gospic also noted that ponds tend to suffer from large losses to predators in particular birds; biosecurity issues; high maintenance costs of the infrastructure; and the difficulty of finding “people able and willing to work in these conditions” “I think in the future the younger generation will prefer to work in the farms that have automation digitalisation and a modern approach,” he predicted Another major limitation flagged up by Dr Gospic relates to the seasonality of pond production – in traditional Eastern European carp farms the two major opportunities to harvest are early winter and spring “So you can’t constantly supply the market and when you have the fish everybody has the fish so at that moment the price of the fish drops,” he observed Dr Gospic also pointed to the diversification opportunities offered by the tank-by-pond system “We can produce a variety of different fish which are not suitable to be produced in the ponds,” he explained In his case these include high density production of European catfish black bass (Micropterus salmoides) and hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops x Morone saxatilis) Dr Gospic’s company has been involved in the construction of over 50 projects in seven countries And he highlighted a 370-hectare carp farm in Croatia as a prime example of how using the tank-by-pond system was able to revitalise a farm – for a fraction of the cost per kilo that it would take to return the farm to its original state In this case G2O was called in to act as consultants as the farm had dropped from producing 400 tonnes of carp per year to 120 tonnes – following the Balkan War during which time the farm wasn’t properly maintained G2O then looked into three options for revitalising the farm – from resurrecting the entire 370 hectares as extensive production to utilising just 70 ha of the existing site for intensive pond production to going for the super-intensive option using just 1 ha of the farm Their conclusion was that on all counts (other than feed conversion ratios as the tank system provided no natural feed) And the table below provides compelling evidence to back up Dr Gospic’s decision as it’s a fish that is also produced in the ponds the company will probably invest in this technology on a bigger scale,” Gospic explained as it’s a fish that is also produced in the ponds – everywhere you see carp in my presentation you can understand it is [also] related to tilapia,” he added Dr Gospic stressed that while G2O situates the tanks next to their carp and trout ponds – and uses the ponds as the source of water for the tanks – there is scope to locate them close to any water source tanks should be over 50 m in diameter – “bigger is better in terms of cost-effectiveness” he explained – and be round best as they are easier to clean (and require less energy to do so); lose comparatively little water to evaporation as they can be much deeper than raceways; and require relatively thin walls he did concede that the one drawback was that they can’t be compartmentalised so only one group of fish could be kept in a tank at a time In terms of design and construction he noted that – in Slovenia at least – concrete is the most economical option for the tanks themselves; the two most reliable forms of aeration are the airlift or paddlewheel options because it can be very impractical to have a large number of aerators because of the maintenance and possible breakage so we use more and more central blowers with aeration leads to all the points It’s much easier for maintenance,” he noted Dr Gospic also pointed out that airlift systems mix all the layers of water helping to stop parts of the tank becoming too hot to support the fish while paddlewheels are limited to mixing only the top layers of the water column he recommended putting them within smaller tanks – when they can also help generate the circular flow needed to clean the tanks – and beside larger ones He also noted that airlift systems can help to distribute lime in both the ponds and tanks saving much time and effort on this otherwise labour-intensive job so little mistakes can lead to mass mortalities if you are not very careful about monitoring It’s always good to have double probes because probes can show not correct figures and maintenance of the oxygen monitoring system is very important,” he reflected allows farmers to triple their stocking densities and reduce the farm’s footprint to a third of its original size – making it particularly worthwhile in regions where land is scarce and construction costs very high then it may be better to go for aeration [rather than oxygenation] and lower stocking densities,” he argued In terms of using liquid oxygen or an oxygen generator he noted that the former was potentially preferable as it can be delivered even in times of power cuts Dr Gospic also mentioned the possibility of using biological filters – such as biofloc or moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) to help to improve water quality in the tanks “If you have problems with increased nitrogen then you can upgrade the system with biological compression,” he explained Dr Gospic wrapped up his talk with a few recommendations for those looking to invest in their farms “I believe that existing pond farms should keep their pond production as it is and simultaneously invest in the tank-by-pond system and gradually build up their experience,” he reflected Tank-by-pond systems have potential for multiple increases in production in any pond culture farm without the need for additional natural resources they should optimise the solution suitable for their specific circumstances and scale it up Investment is much lower compared to investment in pond culture the technology and operation is simple and it has potential for digitalisation Another advantage is diversification – the simultaneous production of different fish species which cannot be produced in pond polyculture with tilapia,” he concluded It is 25 years since years since the statue of Nikola Tesla was blown up by locals in the town of Gospic As Croatia celebrates his genius with the Nikola Tesla: Mind from the Future exhibition in Zagreb will a Nikola Tesla statue ever grace a public square in Gospic again the iconic inventor born in the Croatian village of Smiljan in Lika is nowadays regarded as one of the most groundbreaking scientists in history all over the world As the international public grows more fascinated with Tesla’s life and work with each passing year the local community is making immense efforts to honour Tesla and to use this remarkable legacy to build a brand and develop the tourism offer we remain fixated on one specific facet of Tesla’s person: his nationality Croats and Serbs have been quarreling over the right to claim Tesla as their own the heated debate leading to a general sense of confusion in regards to the inventor’s origin just look at Wikipedia: Tesla’s page in English calls him a Serbian-American inventor the Croatian version of the article refers to him as a Croatian-American scientist and inventor of Serbian origin while the Serbian version dubbed him one of the best known Serbian inventors and scientists in the fields of physics electrical engineering and radio technology The sad thing is that Tesla himself wasn’t burdened by this issue as much as we are nowadays He once referred to himself as proud for having a Serbian ethnicity and a Croatian homeland; if he were alive today he would probably be disheartened to see his incredible life’s work overshadowed by a pointless debate on nationality as recent years saw some commendable initiatives in regards to promoting Tesla as a prominent part of our heritage Many cultural and scientific institutions in Croatia bear his name; Zagreb is currently hosting a major exhibition dedicated to his life and work and his village of Smiljan is nowadays home to the Nikola Tesla Memorial Center with his house of birth transformed into a museum and the surrounding estate housing a display of his inventions You don’t have to visit Tesla’s hometown to see his striking image cast in bronze The best-known monument to Tesla is installed in the centre of Zagreb in a street named after the great inventor Formerly located in front of the Institute Ruđer Bošković in the Croatian capital the monument was made in 1956 by the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović There are three other well-known statues depicting Tesla scattered all over the world The first was installed in front of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade in 1963 An exact copy was presented by Yugoslavia to the US in 1976 was installed on the main square in Gospić the main town to Tesla’s village of Smiljan It’s the last one that’s been a subject of controversy for the last two decades amidst the turmoil brought upon by the Croatian War of Independence Tesla’s monument in Gospić was blown up along with his childhood home in Smiljan (which was also destroyed in 1941) His ethnicity seems to have been regarded as problematic in an environment where anti-Serbian sentiment was growing stronger with each passing day It would make no sense to debate whether the destructive move was justified or not; we can all understand why the collective mindset in communities wounded by war would suddenly shift under the influence of devastating extraordinary circumstances The more important thing to look to is how the local authorities dealt with this issue in the following two decades and what was done to amend the damage inflicted upon the most famous figure to ever come from Lika The subject of Tesla’s monument in Gospić has remained a political issue ever since with opposed parties tossing the matter back and forth unwilling to settle on a unanimous decision While Parliament agreed to proclaim July 10 the official Day of Nikola Tesla the unfortunate monument is still waiting for a permanent home The ravaged statue was taken to the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb for renovation, where it was decided to cast a new copy as the original was too heavily damaged A mold was thus made using the monument in Belgrade as both share the same design and a new sculpture of Tesla was forged in 2006 it remains stored at the academy’s foundry in Kerestinec the main square in Gospić was renamed to Stjepan Radić Square and redesigned to house a fountain named Vila Velebita (Fairy of Velebit) And so the plot thickens: the City Council of Gospić decided Tesla’s monument should return to its former host city but not to its original location; they see it better that the sculpture be installed in front of the Cultural and Information Centre (KIC) adding the debate shouldn’t focus on the fact the monument was blown up because of Tesla’s Serbian origin Nikola Maras (SDP) expressed his disapproval of the entire political debate regarding the monument “The events of the 1990s led to the destruction of Nikola Tesla’s monument a shameful act which should have been condemned a long time ago and the monument returned to its former location and whoever isn’t aware of that can hardly be helped Tesla dedicated his life to the common good instead breaking the mold with his heart and his knowledge putting the entire world in his debt” adding the location in front of KIC wasn’t a bad solution because it was supposed to house a new city library and become the centre of cultural life in Gospić the bigger problem is the location in Budačka Street not disposing of enough accommodation capacities as it will be installed in close proximity to the road” going on to state he considers Tesla’s significance worthy of the original location on Stjepan Radić Square Archaeologist Tatjana Kolak of the Lika Museum in Gospić stated she considers KIC an appropriate solution “The monument shouldn’t be reinstalled at its former location as the central square in Gospić has undergone certain changes in the meantime and as such doesn’t represent a good location for a monument which used to look overly grandiose [at the square] in the first place” Monument to Tesla in the memorial park in Smiljan If you asked the residents of Gospić for their opinion you’d hear both sides of the argument Some are advocating for Tesla to return to his original location while others seem to think Gospić is paying enough tribute to the inventor as it is considering the city has a street and a school named after Tesla and the nearby village of Smiljan houses the remarkable memorial center made for the 150th anniversary of Tesla’s birth with no indication as to when it might finally see the light of day in Gospić If we fail to put an end to this senseless debate in the near future it might be time to stop claiming Tesla as our own and instead ask ourselves if we’re worthy of his name in the first place Minister of Justice and Public Administration Ivan Malenica signed the Agreement on the Realisation of the Project “Modernisation of the Prison System through the Construction of Gospić Penitentiary” with Head of Lika-Senj County Ernest Petry and Mayor of Gospić praised as superheroes and are often the most beloved people on Croatian TV Apart from mountains, their training was also shown to be useful for easing the numerous issues left following the
