but missed market expectations as its business volumes lagged the broader logistics market
recorded a quarterly volume decline of 1% in its sea logistics business
while air logistics saw a 5% rise from a year earlier
Volumes at both businesses were below the levels indicated by the broader market data
Bernstein analysts said in a note to clients
"We have been waiting for the quarter when Kuehne+Nagel catches back up with its large peers, and we are still waiting, as evidenced by still-soft volume numbers vs DSV DSV in Q4," they added.
K+N reported earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of 421 million Swiss francs ($470 million) for the fourth quarter of 2024, missing analysts' median estimate of 430 million francs in a company-provided poll.
The company's shares have underperformed the wider logistic sector over the past year, falling nearly 17% as of Monday's close. They dropped another 6% in early trade on Tuesday.
Thomson ReutersStock performance of freight forwarder Kuehne+Nagel (KNIN.S) and its peers shown in percentage from March 1, 2024 to March 3, 2025
"We continue to see the backdrop as challenging for EBIT growth in 2025 and 2026 and remain cautious," JPMorgan analysts wrote.
Logistics companies are likely to face slower profit growth in 2025 due to yields' normalization, softer demand and fading supply chain disruptions, Parash Jain, HSBC's global head of transport and logistics research, said ahead of the results.
With growth in global container trade and air freight tonnes expected to halve in 2025, Jain was expecting logistic firms, and particularly K+N, to address their cost control measures.
The company said it would provide a financial outlook for 2025 at its Capital Markets Day event on March 25. It did not mention possible cost measures in the press release.

Let's hop in our time machine and see what Wichita Falls Number One Hit Music Station sounded like back in the day
I occasionally run into folks that tell me they remember when 92.9 NIN was KNIN
Technically that is still our official call letters that you will only hear at the top of every hour
but the K was dropped sometime in the 90's
Today though we're going back to 80's when the station you know and love today was on the AM side of your radio
A YouTube page dedicated to old radio jingles uploaded yesterday some of our very own station
you will get a kick out of what the station sounded like back in the day
Today 92.9 NIN is known as Wichita Falls Number One Hit Music Station
apparently at some point in the 1980's we were known as 'The Big One'
In doing some more research, looks like the KNIN 990 AM signal was used between 1981 and 1983. So if you tuned in during that period of time, I am sure these jingles played at some point during those years. Also I found an old KNIN logo from that time that appears to have a Dallas Cowboys helmet on it
I guess we were the radio home for the Dallas Cowboys in Wichita Falls for a period of time

Sixty-five-year-old Croatian Serb Sava Knezevic wanders through the remains of his house
which was reduced to ruins during the Croatian war of the 1990s
For 17 years he has been living in the barn next door
eking out a living selling discarded plastic bottles
without receiving the assistance promised by the authorities to rebuild his home
Knezevic talks to a friend in the barn where he now lives
only one electric socket and few possessions
Knezevic's house was one of many destroyed in Croatia's bloody conflict of the early 1990s
part of the break-up of the former Yugoslavia
When Croatian troops recaptured areas controlled by Serb rebels during the war
and Croatian authorities promised they would be given equal assistance in rebuilding damaged property
many are still making do with basic or temporary living arrangements
Drazen Matovic is another Croatian Serb who is still coping with the most basic living conditions
He lives in an abandoned primary school in the village of Strmica that serves as a makeshift refugee camp for a small group of people
he fled to Serbia with his parents to escape the fighting
The 36 year old returned from Serbia in 2005 after his parents died
He was sent to Strmica by the UN refugee agency and has been living in the school ever since
Matovic says that neither Serbia nor Croatia will give him papers
He survives on food handouts and finds comfort reading the Bible
Ethnic conflict shook Croatia to the core during the bloody break-up of Yugoslavia in the 1990s
both Serbs and Croats in the country still bear the scars – something clearly visible if you visit the areas around the southern town of Knin
When Croatia declared independence in 1991
Serbs who wanted to remain part of Yugoslavia staged a bloody rebellion
The town was recaptured by the Croatian army in 1995 and the Serb population fled in their thousands
most of which were soon torched or blown up by the Croats
some of the Serbs returned and Croatian authorities promised they would receive equal assistance in rebuilding their damaged properties
preparing to join the European Union on July 1
has told the EU that houses for returning refugees would be constructed
I thought I would go and investigate the situation
and after a bit of research and a few phone calls
I managed to find people to talk to both in Knin and the surrounding areas
I found Croatian Serbs whose houses are still in ruins
and who have survived on welfare since their return
who has been living in a barn next to his destroyed home for 17 years now
and ekes out a meagre living by collecting and selling discarded plastic bottles
Instead of a toilet he uses bushes around the back
a small bed and a wood burning stove - and these are almost all of his possessions
Twenty kilometers northeast of Knin is the village of Strmica
abandoned primary school that serves as a makeshift refugee camp
Many of them are waiting for their apartments to be ready and I think some may have been there a long time
But perhaps there’s not that long to go now; some new homes are more or less finished and they just need the water or electricity to be switched on
as the school’s inhabitants weren’t that keen to talk
They had been disappointed by the authorities
but also by journalists who visited them and promised to bring help
Many of the former school’s tenants refused to discuss their personal stories
they were quick to shut the doors of their rooms
but at the door I meet a young man in his thirties and decided to try my luck one more time
I introduced myself and asked him to tell me his life story
and he was a Serb who had been living in the school for eight years
some 300 km (190 miles) away on the southern Adriatic coast
but in 1992 he fled for Serbia in the midst of the fighting
where he was sent by the UN refugee agency
but he faces a major obstacle: he can’t get papers
This means that any work he does would be illegal
and he is not eligible for welfare payments either
The problem is a Catch 22: The Croatian government says that he is Serbian
while the Serbian government says he is Croatian
he receives food that is brought in from Monday to Friday
and he finds few ways to support himself so that he can eat on the weekends
He told me he cried for two days when he was brought here in 2005 and that he felt enraged by the situation
he started studying the Bible and became more positive and calm
he would like to learn English and use a computer
but without the necessary documents he can’t get a job
I kept thinking how a person’s life can fall apart without it being their fault
Drazen was 15 when the war happened; I was 7
The second phase of a project to establish a comprehensive and sustainable waste management system for Šibenik-Knin County
Croatia has been implemented with EU funding
Construction of the Bikarac waste management centre is the main element of the project
a mechanical biological treatment plant has been built at the centre and two waste transshipment stations have been set up at Biskupija and Pirovac
‘Quality waste management is a prerequisite for sustainable development and one of today’s biggest challenges
This is not just a question of a municipal service
Vehicles have been acquired to transport waste between the transshipment stations and the waste management centre
The stations will cut waste management costs so that a set price per tonne of waste can be offered to all local government units
Technology for treatment of municipal waste has been purchased
making it possible to create high-quality secondary raw materials that can be used in production processes
Products obtained from waste management include paper
The mechanical biological treatment plant can process up to 50 000 tonnes of waste a year
It contains two units: one for mechanical and biological treatment; and one for composting
Work on the plant entails the construction of buildings for mechanical treatment of mixed municipal waste and biological treatment of the organic fraction of mixed municipal waste – for instance
and garden waste – and separated biowaste
Further constructions are used for mechanical pre-treatment (shredding and mixing) of separated biowaste and storage of combustible waste and secondary raw materials
Facilities have been set up for treatment of bulky waste
baling of secondary raw materials and storage of compost prior to its distribution for sale and compost-like output from biological treatment before its disposal in landfill
A compost packaging system and biofilters for treatment of waste gas have been installed
and an administrative building and access roads have been built
remediation measures were carried out on existing landfills prior to their closure
in which waste is isolated from the environment and allowed to decompose into biologically and chemically inert materials
A pilot project was implemented in Šibenik
involving the separate collection of waste PET
this scheme has been expanded across Šibenik-Knin County
Additional features of the second phase include the installation
of a drainage system for storm water and leachate – contaminated liquid from water percolating through the site – and education and publicity actions to help achieve waste management goals
Total investment for the project “Establishment of a comprehensive and sustainable waste management system in Šibenik-Knin County – Bikarac county waste management centre – phase II” is EUR 29 177 382
with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 14 682 427 through the “Competitiveness and Cohesion” Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period
The investment falls under the priority “Environmental protection and resource efficiency”

The “Josip Markić” training area consists of three sections
is fenced off and is owned by the Ministry of Defence
The spatial plan of Šibenik – Knin County designates the “Josip Markić” military training area as an area of special interest for the Republic of Croatia
The land used by the Croatian Armed Forces for training activities (firing positions and target areas – section 3) is bordered by the Dinara Nature Park
Bilingual warning signs (in Croatian and English) saying “Danger
Enter At Your Own risk!” are clearly displayed
Six warning signs are displayed on all access routes leading to the target area
Strict safety measures are implemented when military activities are conducted at the “Josip Markić” military training area to ensure the safety of both CAF members and civilians
guard duty prevents unauthorized access and directs passers-by to safe areas
Immediately before any firing exercises are held
the area is inspected by unmanned aerial systems to ensure a safe environment for carrying out the activity
The targets are positioned exclusively in the target area to prevent contamination of other parts of the training area
Special attention is given to locating unexploded ordnance
A monitoring team is organized to observe firing exercises
while a pyrotechnician destroys or disposes of unexploded ordinance based on the information provided by the monitoring team
the unit conducts clean-up and removal of explosive remnants
the exercise commanders inspect the area (section 3) and collect all safe ammunition fragments for disposal as waste
When military activities are conducted at the “Josip Markić” military training area
the public is specifically informed through various channels: Radio Knin and other public media
and the notice board displayed at the entrance to the “Josip Markić” military training area
This board clearly details the current month’s activity schedule and zones
including warnings on potential unexploded ordnance
The Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces have no knowledge of the specific type of explosive involved in this incident
The Zadar Police Department has reported that all traces found at the scene have been collected and will be sent for expert examination to the Forensic Science Centre “Ivan Vučetić”
The warning signs clearly state that entry into the “Josip Markić” military training area is at one’s own risk
and that it is possible to encounter unexploded ordnance
The “Josip Markić” military training area has been in operation for decades and such a tragedy has never occured before
Being a UN Volunteer was one of the most meaningful experiences in my life so far
already at the end of a successful business career
the unexpected excitement and humility of reaching out to truly touch peoples’ lives showed me that life can always bring the unexpected
At a gathering with leaders from UNHCR and business associates
By 1992 the Yugoslav Federation was falling apart
The war in Croatia led to hundreds of thousands of refugees and reawakened memories of the brutality of the 1940s. But the news of these people’s suffering
had moved quickly from the front page of US newspapers to perhaps an afterthought footnote
and asked those I knew in UNHCR if there was anything I could do
to assist in repatriation efforts in the Croatia
I didn’t look back - I would be a volunteer
Allied bombers were still flying missions over Kosovo and daily life in the region was tense wherever you went
had a full security briefing and was swept into a car that took me on a four-hour mountain pass journey from Zagreb via Karenica (border with Bosnia) and finally to Knin
had been originally 80 percent Serbian ethnically
and during the war the Serbian Peoples Army cleared the Croatian Catholics (in three to five years) from the community and subsequently the Croatian Army cleaned the area of most Serbs
All of this involving some 250,000 poor souls
Knin was the stronghold for the Serbs from 1990 onwards until Croatian forces captured it during Operation Storm in October 1995
The Operation became the largest European land battle since the Second World War and was a decisive victory for the Croatian army
driving through villages where houses no longer had roofs or doors and the streets and playgrounds were eerily empty
I realized that perhaps I had not really understood the impact of situation
American pressure to end the war eventually led to the Dayton Accords of November 1995
which created self-governing entities within the area including Bosnia-Herzagovina
The Agreement put an end to all military confrontation; it was to promote peace and stability in the region and around the former Yugoslavia
A peace settlement to fully implement the Dayton Accords was an agreement that aimed to bring about the return of all refugees resulting from the hostilities
Volunteering is what you as a person make out of it
Upon my arrival in Knin I was assigned two staff personnel to help me find living accommodations and then I returned to the offices
to be available for any jobs needed to be completed
For the first few weeks UN personnel and I shared the duties of going out for runs for materials
through the promise of repatriation of Croatians
we needed to become more useful and assist in transporting people back from the Bosnian border to their homes in Knin and its surroundings
Three or four nights a week we would drive to the Bosnian border and pick up Knin area residents that had been living in refugee camps in Serbia for three to five years
Those evenings we never knew what would be in store for us
Many people would see their former homes for the first time
and due to their being occupied or/ and obliterated would hardly recognize where they had grown up or made their lives before the war
We received police escorts and the ceaseless expertise from young UNHCR professionals
But the actual taking these people ‘home’ became a major volunteer service to the community
and the faces of many of these displaced people are forever embedded in my mind
We went to pick up around 40 people one May evening
except one elderly lady with around 30 pounds of luggage
She could not recognize her own home and we were driving around for hours trying to find her house
we UN Volunteers and UN driver continued to wind through back roads with this woman
and were directed to a small dirt road by her frail frame
no lights and only from the car headlights could we make out what seemed like a small farmhouse with no windows or doors
The woman insisted this was her home and jumped out of the car to “move back in”
A few days later the driver and I went back out to the place to deliver a stove
she came out of the ram-shackled shelter beaming
they were oblivious to the disaster around them

A proposal to build a 950 MW solar facility has been submitted to the Croatian authorities by El Sun Energy d.o.o
The solar park is planned to be located in the county of Šibenik-Knin in southern Croatia
Šibenik-Knin County is located in the north-central part of Dalmatia
Zagreb-based developer El Sun Energy d.o.o
is planning to build a 950 MW solar park in the county of Šibenik-Knin in southern Croatia
This emerges from a list of projects under review published this week by Croatia's Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development
The list includes 216 renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 5.95 GW
The largest is the 950 MW project in Šibenik-Knin while the smallest one has a capacity of just 500 kW
these projects could then be entitled to compete in public energy auctions or to sell power under bilateral purchase agreements
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
Croatia had 309 MW of installed PV capacity at the end of 2021

People park their vehicles on the roadside as heavy smoke rises in the background in Zaton
July 13 (Xinhua) -- Fire broke out in three Croatian areas
one in Zadar County and two in Sibenik-Knin County
on Wednesday and about 20 houses were burned down in Sibenik-Knin County where the fire was the worst but with no casualties
"Approximately 20 houses have been burned down," Darko Dukic
commander of the Fire Brigade of Sibenik-Knin County
Many locals have evacuated and 150 firefighters are putting out the fire on the scene and three Canadairs are providing aerial support
the Ministry of Defense announced Wednesday that it is sending 52 soldiers to Sibenik-Knin County to help put out the fire
Although the fire in Zadar County is not as serious
the strong winds have made it very difficult to put out the fire

2024 – Much has been said about the state of Croatia’s railways and train connections in general
but improvements are being (very slowly) made
The Zadar-Knin railway line is set to make a comeback
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes
the Zadar-Knin railway is finally being restored after having spent a decade in a state of total disrepair
Trains will run again and the train station in the centre of the city will be moved to Gaženica Port
while the port and the centre will be connected by both trams and electric boats
“This project is being financed from a loan provided by the European Investment Bank
the second part will be financed from EU funds
and the current plan is also to rebuild the station on this section and eventually purchase modern passenger trains,” says Josip Bilaver
State Secretary in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs
The carrying capacity of the Zadar-Knin railway will be increased to 22 and a half tonnes
the railway from Bibinje and Sukošan will be relocated
All types of vehicles will also have an intersection in Gaženica Port
where the new Zadar Railway Station will be
“Architect Pero Marušić made a proposal
a study that would connect Gaženica itself with the city centre as a substitute
after moving the station to Gaženica itself,” explained Darko Kasap
head of spatial planning and construction of the City of Zadar
Kasap added that road traffic would also be relieved by new lines of electric boats that would stop at the city’s communal ports
Zadar’s locals are thrilled at these plans and can’t wait to use the new Zadar-Knin railway
“I have a five-year-old child who has always wanted to travel by train
I’m looking at where we could take her
where is the closest place to us for them to experience the train… Šibenik
but there’s nothing here from Zadar,” said Zadar resident Ana
The selection of contractors for the reconstruction of the Zadar-Knin railway is now drawing to a gradual close
and the works worth more than 90 million euros will soon begin

Taekwondo fighter Matea Jelić defeated Great Britain’s Lauren Williams in the taekwondo gold medal fight at the Olympic Games in Tokyo on Monday, reports Index.hr
“We are excited and overjoyed because of our Mateja
every house in Knin was with her today,” Knin Mayor Marijo Ćaćić told Index, euphoric about the great success of 23-year-old Mateja Jelić from Knin
who defeated Great Britain’s Lauren Williams in a dramatic taekwondo final and achieved the greatest success of Croatian taekwondo
While she is a member of TK Marjan Split today
she made her first steps in the Knin club DIV
“I am proud of the results we achieve
as well as the great work and effort invested by our coaches and athletes
and Knin did not accidentally win a gold medal at the Olympics
Congratulations to the professional team from Split Marjan
and it was logical for her to continue her career in the most trophy-winning club
Marjan Split is celebrating two medals today; we must not forget Toni Kanaet
I can’t even describe how I feel; this is wonderful
although I have to say that we are already used to Mateja’s successes
She delighted us eight years ago when she became a junior world champion
but mother Ljiljana does not want to be in the media; she told me that this is just Mateja’s day,” the mayor of Knin told Index
It is known that Matea dreams of a welcome reception in Knin with an Olympic medal around her neck
and Ćaćić confirmed that her dream would surely come true
“We will prepare a reception for her following epidemiological measures
The situation in Knin is good so far; today
but only a few people from the same family who contracted COVID-19 earlier
As soon as I contact Mateja’s family
we will agree on all details around the reception
and it will be something special,” said the mayor of Knin
Mateja was accompanied throughout her career by Šibenik-Knin County Prefect Marko Jelić
everyone knows who Matea Jelić is and what her name is
but I know very well how much effort she put into getting to the top step of the podium.
I have known her since she was a child; she went to school with my daughter
completely focused on what she wants to achieve
I did not doubt that she would take an Olympic medal one day
She didn’t surprise me at all; I was just afraid that some injury would burden her,” Jelić told Index and added:
“Her success means a lot to our Knin
Whoever comes to our city feels love for it
but we who live here feel a little different today
today she is also an Olympic winner and can choose where to spend her free time and create her life
from the first steps to the Olympic podium,” Jelić concluded

The military leadership of the past Republic of Serbian Krajina (RSK) the works of Carl von Clausewitz were read
as it can now be ascertained from this time distance
as part of a course at the Military Academy
the creators of the Croatian action "Storm" put those "recommendations" into practice in the summer of 1995
Clausewitz's "center of gravity" is the basis of US military doctrine
whose retired generals trained the Croatian army
"The main battle on the battlefield is the impact of center of gravity on center of gravity
and exploiting an adversary's center of gravity is one of the most complex war efforts
To distinguish these centers of gravity in the enemy's army
was the basis for disintegration not only in the army
when the Army of the Republika Srpska (VRS) surrendered Kupreška vrata
which in military doctrine was designated as one of the key geostrategic points in the Balkans
Experienced poker player, president of the RS Radovan Karadzic
who practiced gambling in the 49s in Belgrade's "Mažestik" while he was a psychiatrist of FK Crvena Zvezda
knew that one should not gamble but play it safe
because Bosnia and Herzegovina had to be divided in the ratio of 51:XNUMX percent
And what good are the mountains without inhabitants in the Bosnian Krajina
it's better if they serve as "pocket money"
Then there is "cohabitation" around military operations - who cares about some Livanjsko or Grahovsko polje
And the Croats used that to break through to Dinar
from where they had the Knin Krajina in the palm of their hand
One of the high-ranking officers of the then Serbian Army of the Krajina (SVK) told the author of this text how he called General Dušan Kukobat
then Chief of Staff of the Second Krajina Corps of the VRS
to exchange information and agree on joint actions on the Dinara
to which the Croats are part of the action "Winter 1994" penetrated
and to obtain information from the reconnaissance and sabotage detachment "Orlovi Grmeča"
This information was never provided to him
as if they were not two "brotherly" armies
When the Croats occupied the strategically important Šator mountain
Croats took control of Dinar during the spring of 1995
It is sad that even UNPROFOR admits that Croatian forces are shooting at their soldiers
including in one case the commander of the "South" sector and his entourage
and the Serbian side "condemns it in the strongest terms"
but the moment the Croatian army captured Antić's head
the downfall of the SVK and the fall of the RSK began
Knin has been in the palm of their hand since April 1995
Disintegration of the Serbian Army of Krajina
The North Dalmatian Corps of the SVK had two motorized brigades and four light infantry brigades
It covered the area from Velebit above Obrovac to Dinara to Bosanski Grahov
the 75th Knin and 92nd Benkovac motorized brigades each had about 3.000 men
and that was certainly not enough to defend the front line
bearing in mind that there were always half the people on vacation
plus those who deserted before the "Storm"
The testimonies of the officers of those units are interesting
and they actually talk about the situation in the SVK and explain the quick defeat and collapse of the 7th Corps of the SVK
my brigade commander was a reserve captain
how to take the army to Dinar without anyone to command them
who was watching how to arrange beds under a thread
The former high-ranking officer of the SVK points out that there were reservists everywhere in the units
the Krajišniks from Belgrade did not want to come
they always "excused" themselves due to health problems
in which the commanders are reserve officer-captains
You have a brigade in which the commander is the only officer
It refers to these four light infantry brigades
In the 72nd (Benkovac) Motorized and 75th (Knin) at least you had officers in the command
non-commissioned officers were always lacking
but at least you had professional people who could organize something
and the 'hole' gaping towards the enemy is huge
They send parts of other units to help them
"Someone deliberately 'sacrificed' that direction," said the retired officer
also points to another fact - that before the fall of Knin
and after the fall of Bosanski Grahov under Croatian control
The author of this text was in Knin in those days
There was a general mobilization in Knin at that time
everything that was male and moved was mobilized and sent to Dinar
there was a popular saying in the RSK that "the people of Knin do not fight"
The people of Knin are the same as they were on the battlefields
looking at the statistics of the number of dead and wounded
is that Knin was the administrative seat of the RSK
so it was created the impression that there were deserters in Knin
and the few citizens of Knin who worked in government services were mostly mobilized and sent
performed professional tasks without which the RSK administration system could not function
One of the commanders on that "Dinaric direction" told the author of this text how
300-400 people were brought to him from the so-called Special Units Corps
And the mobilization in the spring was in style: a policeman stops you on the street
then in the bus and in the direction of the training ground in Slunj
where you become a member of the Corps of Special Units of the RSK
I see that they are lost in space and time
my friend and experienced warrior: 'Bring them back
don't carry them on my soul any more.' And he returned them."
broadcast Franjo Tuđman's proclamation: "In the name of the democratic government
I call on the members of the Serbian paramilitary units
who have been voluntarily or forcibly mobilized into the Serbian paramilitary units
to hand over their weapons to the Croatian authorities with the guarantee that they will be given to them." amnesty according to current Croatian laws
I call on the initiators of the rebellion to realize the futility of their endeavor and its harm to the Serbian community in Croatia if they persist in the rebellion
to surrender to the Croatian authorities and accept forgiveness or a fair trial for their crimes
I call on Croatian citizens of Serbian nationality who did not actively participate in the rebellion to stay in their homes and welcome the Croatian authorities without fear for their lives and property
with the guarantee that they will be given all civil rights and will be able to hold elections for local self-government according to the Croatian Constitution and Constitutional Law with the presence of international observers
We are determined to end the suffering and uncertainty of Croatian exiles from the occupied territories
and to guarantee the human and ethnic rights of Croatian Serbs in the constitutional and legal order of democratic Croatia." Most of those who believed in Tuđman's proclamation had their sufferings really ended - they were liquidated
volleys of shells from artillery pieces or multi-barreled rocket launchers fell on Knin
The targets were targeted selectively and indiscriminately: selectively military objects
and indiscriminately to frighten the population
as well as in the MUP; as someone who saw it with his own eyes
out of 56 people who had special passes of the so-called State Information Pool
avoiding shrapnel from the shells that littered the building along the way
helped to put out the fire on the neighboring house
carefree because not only did they leave on time
but they also evacuated their families days before
The only exception was the mayor of Knin and Minister of Information Drago Kovačević (unfortunately
Chaos arose where it was no longer known who was drinking and who was paying
the Main Headquarters of the SVK announces a fire alarm
the telephone connections are disconnected
cars and tractors with refugees from the village pass through the main street of Knin for hours towards the Sibenik battlefield
Davidović was respected by all his colleagues because of his skill
The commander of the North Dalmatian Corps
appointed to this position just a few days before the "Storm"
when the Croats practically "walk" into the "gate of Dalmatia"
The newly appointed commander was not interested in the fact that at least three more brigades were needed to close that direction
Neither is the fact that the forcibly mobilized are sent to defend the RSK against at least three times stronger members of the HV professional guard brigades
Kovčević was given the rank of general in Serbia and the post of chief of armored and mechanized units of the Yugoslav Army
General Milorad Stupar was rewarded even more swiftly
he became the head of the Infantry Directorate
Making jumps between cyclic volleys of shells
I see a body being carried out in a black (dead) bag
and the crime technicians tell me: Lieutenant Colonel Bojanic
while other officers were running away from going to SVK
He was on duty operative for RV and air defense in the SVK Command in Knin
and then his colleagues told him to open the envelope with the orders and read them
just took out Zastava's Magnum 357 and killed himself

Promina Mayor Tihomir Budanko told portal Šibenski that the request for a 950 MW solar power plant was submitted by the company El Sun Energy
It is a non-binding expression of interest to allow a potential investor to obtain energy approval
The location planned for the power plant is under a power line
in an area of karst that is not usable for anything else
and the municipality has an interest in using it because it could receive a solid compensation
Investors want to install solar power plants with a combined capacity of 1,000 MW in Šibenik-Knin county

Croatia demanded an apology from Serbia on Thursday after a member of a Serbian delegation referred to Knin – a town in the Adriatic hinterland that had been the seat of the Serb rebellion in 1991 – as “Serbian and…
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic (C) is accompanied by unidentified Croatian officials as they watch a group of children performing a folk dance during his visit to an elementary school in the town of Vrginmost
The trains "Marjan" and "Dioklecijan" leave from the main railway station in Zagreb
the only two trains that go via Lika to Knin
There is no direct train from Belgrade to Knin for a long time
and there is no train between Belgrade and Zagreb either
The Knin railway station looks the same as it did in 1995
there are no counter sales - the sign reads "we are closed until further notice
"Brica" is still written on one of the shop windows
Through a conversation with old residents of Knin
I learned that the bricklayer in question had closed his shop even before the war
While I was drinking "coffee with milk" in a cafe near the train station and reading a newspaper on my phone
I came across a text on one of the extremely obscure Serbian portals that the "Ustasha" attack Serbian returnees
but also those who just stop by to visit the house
Reading dozens of similar articles that have been filling the tabloids lately
one gets the impression that one cannot safely drive through Knin with a Serbian registration
and if one happens to sit down somewhere for a coffee
so that one does not accidentally hear the traces of an ekavica
there are sporadic incidents - it happens that someone scratches the glass of a car
or someone angrily looks at a car with BG plates
Although I have stayed in Knin countless times since the beginning of the 2000s
nothing unpleasant has ever happened to me
It was quite normal to hang out with local Croatian kids who came to Knin after "The Storm"
My grandmother Milka is in the column of Serbian refugees that August 1995 she left her hamlet of Medici near Knin
She is completely surrounded by Croatian settlers who never cared about her ethnicity when it came to helping her
Serbian registrations in Knin could be seen on every corner
It happened on one occasion that a group of hooligans demolished a cafe in a village near Knin where the locals were watching a game of Red Star in the Champions League
but an organized group of beaters who arrived from Split
while the Croatian side celebrates the victory
the situation becomes unpleasant for all those who left their lives in Knin at that time
but even then there are generally no incidents
The only thing is that it is not pleasant to listen to the hits of Marko Perković Thomson or Miroslav Škora all day from the stadium of FK Dinare
but the stories that are being pushed in the Serbian public opinion that it is "dangerous" to go there are simply incorrect
Knin is not the most ideal option for living
but because the economic situation there is not at an enviable level
The stone slabs placed around the "Storm" monument cracked this year due to excessive heat

In 2017 the SNV branch in Biskupija and the association of the families of missing persons “Protiv zaborava” (Against oblivion) unveiled a memorial commemorating the civilians killed at Uzdolje
Today a religious service was held for the victims at the site and wreaths were laid and candles lit at the memorial by local ethnic Serb officials and Serb minority MP Anja Šimpraga
The SNV recalled in a statement that the Documenta – Centre for Dealing with the Past nongovernmental organisation in August 2017 filed a criminal report against unidentified perpetrators for the crime committed at Uzdolje
which no institution has yet acted on
relies for the most part on facts about the crime on which light was shed in an investigation by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY)
primarily by witness statements,” the SNV said
It recalled that the investigation by the ICTY showed that three men
wearing camouflage uniforms with Croatian Army insignia on them and armed with machine guns, arrived by car in Uzdolje’s hamlet of Šare in the morning of 6 August 1995
They started abusing and intimidating elderly people they found in the hamlet
taking away a group of villagers to a location near the Knin-Drniš road
where one of the three men opened fire at them
One person survived and managed to escape to a nearby forest
The SNV said it was not clear what prevented prosecutorial authorities to further investigate the crime and called on them to do so
