2024 – The Osijek company Orqa is set to open a drone factory across the pond in the USA following a generous 5.8 million euro investment
As Netrokracija/Marin Pavelic writes
Orqa has secured 5.8 million euros in a seed round of funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partners
American funds Radius Capital and Decisive Point also participated
These funds will be invested in expanding the Osijek company Orqa’s global presence
increasing production capacities and encouraging further technological development
Orqa’s aim is to position itself as a leading supplier of technologies for unmanned systems here in the West
which started out as a humble hardware consulting company
is gradually becoming one of the leaders in security solutions
Geopolitical issues have forced Orqa to the forefront
The war in Ukraine increased the demand for their products
with thousands of Orqa drones being used there on a monthly basis
The need for unmanned aerial vehicles has also shot up owing to incidents in the Red Sea that disrupted global supply chains
this Croatian enterprise’s strategic opportunities in the defence sector
Orqa’s co-founder and CEO Srđan Kovačević revealed more about the company’s ambitious plans
The fact that they were recognised by the aforementioned investors is considered a milestone and validation of everything Orqa has done so far
“Big names like these change our reputation on a global level
which means that we no longer have to convince anyone of what we we’re working towards
This investment opens the door for Orqa to an international presence
with the first steps being directed towards the American market
Orqa plans to create ten new jobs in the USA
the company will focus on expansion in Europe
with an emphasis placed heavily on Germany
Orqa also plans to continue hiring here at home in Croatia,” the Orqa CEO revealed
they plan to launch production in the US and establish a team in London
which will be led by the recently hired Chief Product Officer Arnaud Thiercelin
Arnaud previously worked for major competitors DJI and Auterion
The Osijek company Orqa began with the idea of dealing with “hobbyist” technologies
the technologies they deal with started to be used for defence purposes
Orqa then found itself as being among only a few Western companies that possesses the necessary technological know-how to build unmanned systems
“There’s currently a rush on to acquire these technologies because NATO has completely changed its mind about unmanned systems as a result of the war in Ukraine
It’s precisely this sense of urgency that has enabled faster development and business agreements,” Srđan points out
they had to meet various stringent requirements like those of the US NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) in order to gain the trust of Western markets
As far as the enterprise segment (which will be worth 41.3 billion USD by 2026) is concerned
Orqa will remain focused on applications that include remote inspection
security monitoring and emergency response in a wide range of industries
“DJI has never offered enterprise solutions in the true sense of the word
They have a closed system and limited support
so you never know if they’ll just choose to shut down a feature
I’d say they’re a bit like Apple in the sense that they might just decide to shut down a certain feature which then ruins an application
We want to be closer to the Microsoft approach where we provide far more customisation to the end user
The Osijek company Orqa is increasingly emerging as a key strategic player in the global drone industry thanks to its vertical integration which ensures quality
scalability and resilience to supply chain disruptions
Developing complete drone systems and ensuring reliability for Western drone ecosystems positions them as a strong alternative to China’s DJI
sales and manufacturing capabilities and accelerate global expansion
Doing all of the above will further solidify its position as the leading Western drone manufacturer that meets the highest safety and regulatory standards

2024 – The enormous Jabil Osijek project has seen the unemployment that has dogged the area for years plummet
Here’s more about the largest international investment in the industrial sector
As Poslovni Dnevnik/VL/Suzana Lepan-Stefancic writes
the American company Jabil finally opened the doors of its impressive production facility in Osijek’s Nemetin business zone on Thursday
It’s the largest economic investment in the last three decades in the city on the banks of the Drava river
and one of the largest in recent Croatian history
The value of the investment in the Jabil Osijek project stands at 100 million euros
The new facility spans an area of 47,938 square metres and boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure
as well as introduce advanced technological capabilities and create high-quality jobs across Croatia and the region
The facility for the Jabil Osijek project was erected in a mere 15 months
and was constructed by more than 1,000 workers from 140 different companies
entered into a strategic partnership with General Motors 45 years ago
and gradually grew with innovative products
as well as with numerous acquisitions such as the Telmark Network and a portfolio of medical devices at Johnson&Johnson
this is the beginning of a journey full of possibilities
We’re excited because thanks to benefits such as relocation packages
the reimbursement of transportation costs and participation in international projects
we’ll be able to attract talented individuals to our Osijek facility,” said Victor Manuel Morales
regional director for business development
we manufacture everything from coffee machines to life-saving medical devices as well as automotive technology
We’re the brand behind the world’s biggest brands
Our Jabil Osijek project and new plant symbolises the next chapter in the field of new opportunities
innovation and cooperation in complex and important growing markets
We’re delighted to combine the Jabil’s global expertise with the potential that Osijek possesses,” said Fred McCoy
Jabil’s executive vice president in charge of global operations
but we’re moving towards that figure
and we didn’t have to look for foreigners,” added McCoy
they operate in more than 100 locations in 25 countries around the world and have around 140,000 employees
The new Jabil Osijek plant will be of key importance in providing support to the company’s European operations
as well as in meeting the needs of its clients around the world
The Jabil Osijek project saw the creation of this new facility
which boasts a 22,296 square meter production space
It is equipped with the latest equipment for surface mounting technology and automated assembly
and a solar power plant with a total power of 4.8 MW
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said that the Jabil Osijek project will be a new and important link in Croatian-American relations
adding that the opening of the facility in Osijek is “proof that the Slavonia project has succeeded.”
“Osijek was chosen in a competition between 16 cities
and this shows that Osijek and Slavonia have changed their image
Osijek and Croatia as a whole will benefit from the commissioning of the new plant in the long term
given that it is one of the most significant foreign investments in the industrial sector,” Plenković said
American ambassador Nathalie Rayes was also extremely optimistic
“Jabil invested 100 million euros in the new Osijek facility
The future is very bright for Croatia and this is just the beginning
Croatia is politically and economically stable
I’d like welcome all American investors to Croatia and offer our help,” said Rayes of the Jabil Osijek project
The American giant explained that the choice of Osijek for their new investment was determined by the fantastic support of the local and educational community that they received
said that the opening of the new plant is yet more proof that Osijek is “a centre of innovation and technological development”
“This investment will be another step forward in the economic transformation of the City of Osijek
Investments in the public sector worth 350 million euros are underway across the city
Osijek has been one of the cities to lead in the withdrawal of EU funds
We’ve been recording record high employment and record low unemployment over the last 15 years,” underlined Radić
Osijek-Baranja prefect Mato Lukić pointed out that Jabil is of great importance when it comes to employment and strengthening the economy in the county
“The Jabil Osijek project will definitely succeed in attracting other investors and employers

Osijek-Baranja County Prefect Lukić also noted that this is fantastic recognition for this large eastern county that is so often forgotten
