Požega does not remember that in its history it was under such a siege by various people police group, and all because of the session of the Požega Municipality Assembly, the first after almost three months, which, according to the words, opposition of councilors
there are members of the police in armored vehicles
and in full combat gear to break up demonstrations
"We were advised by the head of the Criminal Police Department from Užice to report the threats that came to us
where after the Assembly session I received a serious threat that someone would wait for me at night
but after this entire situation and the threats that happened even today at the session itself
I listened and did it," said member of the Požega Initiative Green-Left Front Committee member and MP Bogdan Radovanović
educators from Požega who were "tabloidized" and who "suffered considerable violence from the representatives of the local self-government"
expressed their rebellion and said what they had
"They left after the representatives of the government
the President of the Municipality and his assistant
and the others." "One MP was showing the middle finger to the educators from the window
while she was being protected by the police," said Radovanović
The head of the committee group of the Democratic Party
educators in Požega are not giving up their fight
"As far as educators in Požega are concerned
we are actually on a total work stoppage for the seventh week
it refers to two elementary schools and the Sveti Sava high school
we have received salaries from 300 dinars to 2000 dinars
But we are still determined to persevere in our fight
especially for the last two or three months
We are especially inspired to persevere in this fight because we receive shameful insults that are unprecedented when it comes to our small town
"It has never happened that anyone insults and addresses educators in that way," said Radovanović
He recalled that some of his colleagues "appeared on the front pages of tabloids"
as a group of councilors and as a coalition that has been acting together all this time
we demanded that the President of the Municipality
as well as all other officials of the ruling coalition
to apologize for everything they did and that this was actually a condition for that session to start working
they refused and we didn't want to allow the session to start and proceed according to some planned agenda," said Radovanović and added that the session ended after a few minutes
and it was all over in a few minutes," said Radovanović
The events in Požega reminded of similar events in the Municipality Rich man where farmers and other citizens who demonstrated in front of the Municipality of Bogatić
where a public discussion on the spatial plan of the municipality and lithium research was to be held
broke the entrance door and entered the building
A similar thing happened in Kraljev where the opposition councilors joined the demonstrators in front of the City Assembly and threw eggs at the police
all because of the inappropriate behavior of the mayor Predrag Terzić
who ran away from the Assembly building to the van with police security
Serbian students repeated a hundred times that this is a marathon
Similar to Adam Mihnjik in the eighties in Poland
The government in Serbia is on the way to the end - you just need to be patient
With the inclusivity created at the plenums
students should continue during election engagement
including the opposition at some point - whatever it may be

They discuss all books in groups and prepare presentations for other students
The second phase of the project is even more interactive
The teenagers collaborate with other professors and create picture books about the SDGs
They found inspiration in a project by their friends from Germany who created bilingual picture books and shared their experience with them
the children will formulate questions about the SDGs and give their responses verbally and as illustrations
All updates about activities are published in an open “SDG Book Club Serbia“ group on social media using a hashtag where librarians
professors and students collaborate as moderators and admins

Alan Haller had plenty of success during his time as a student-athlete at Sexton and then at Michigan State
And he doesn't think he would have thrived competing in track and field or football
reached the NFL or even eventually become Michigan State's athletic director if it wasn't for the influence of Paul Pozega during the 1980s at Sexton High School.
"I don't really know if I would have been able to accomplish some of the things that I have accomplished without him in my life for those four years," Haller said
"I wouldn't have gone on to some of the things I've done because he taught me skills that I'm still using today that aren't really track-and-field skill
The man is that important to me and he was that important to a lot of people."
who was a hall of fame and state championship coach
Pozega was a large track and field figure in mid-Michigan and was instrumental in the formation of the Greater Lansing Honor Roll meet
He was inducted into the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Sexton Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015
where Pozega started his career as a teacher and coach
won a boys Class C state track title in 1962 under his direction
where hed led the team to back-to-back Class A boys state titles in 1986 and 1987
Sexton also had a state runner-up boys finish in Class A in 1991 under Pozega
who was twice named the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Class A Coach of the Year
The back-to-back Sexton state title teams are being enshrined into the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame in August
"He would always tell me stories about the athletes that he had when he was coaching — especially at Sexton," said Pozega's granddaughter
who starred as a runner at Grand Ledge and MSU before turning pro
"He just always wanted everybody to push to be their best and that's definitely a big reason of (why I am) where I am today
He always had really high standards for all of us in school
He would always ask about our grades and how school was going
Lansing School District athletic director Chris Henderson
said Pozega had a strong influence while impacting many
"I remember him as being a very caring and kind coach and very inspiring and motivating," Henderson said
"He always talked to us about our academics and the importance of education
He was always willing to go above and beyond to help his students and athletes out."
who learned the value of work ethic as an athlete and many other valuable life lessons
'80s and '90s he was the most influential person in coaching in the Lansing area in terms of what he did for not only track and field but high school sports in general," Haller said
"He cared so much about what students learned from the sports experience
I think he was probably the most influential person in high school sports in (those) three decades
"He had that much of an impact on people and systems."

“Serbia urgently needs a national law on housing that fosters non-discrimination and inclusion and that complies with its international human right obligations,” Leilani Farha, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, said in a press release today following her week-long visit to the country
“This new law must take seriously issues of availability
affordability and security of tenure for all
especially for vulnerable groups,” she continued
“And it must be firmly grounded in international human rights law and standards.”
Serbia’s large public housing stock was privatized in the early 1990s and sold to individuals and families at symbolic prices leading to a high-rate of homeownership, according to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)
homeownership does not guarantee adequate housing
that homeowners and renters alike had indicated that heating
electricity bills and other housing charges remain “simply unaffordable” while some renters had even received eviction notices due to arrears
the Special Rapporteur said she learned of “deplorable housing conditions” experienced by vulnerable groups with “distinct housing needs,” such as persons with disabilities
and migrants and refugees from Africa and the Middle East
some significant housing issues of the past remain unresolved,” she continued
“Roma housing conditions are egregious; they continue to be targeted for eviction with its devastating consequences
Allowing this to continue exacerbates discrimination
Serbia has an obligation to ensure that housing is protected as a legal right that everyone

It’s fair to say that in this day and age
There are far more people in the world today who abstain from eating any meat – vegetarians and vegans – than those who go hunting
hunting associations play a vital role in maintaining the beauty and accessibility of the country’s rural landscape
Not that you much hear about this aspect of their undertakings
Perhaps they are typically just rather understated people
They so far managed to send a whole two tons
Pozega-Slavonia hunters from the county association began collecting funds for the families of those tragically killed in the 29 December earthquake
They have so far collected some 50,000 kunas that will be directed to the intended recipients through the Croatian Hunting Association

A new state-of-the-art information system designed to streamline and enhance engagement with University of Saskatchewan (USask) students
donors and stakeholders is on pace to go live in the summer of 2020
“We are moving well in terms of building and implementing the system
and will soon move into the training and the testing
I would say that mid-July to early-August is when you would see us going live
and that’s well within the timelines we expected.”
The establishment of the new relationship management system
specifically designed for post-secondary institutions
is a $3.6-million project that started in the fall of 2018
The system features three applications implemented in three stages: recruitment
“When it comes to the kind of relationship tracking infrastructure that you need at the modern university
this is an essential project,” said Pozega Osburn
“Your relationship management system is one of the most important initiatives for you to get right
really critical that we relate to our stakeholders in new ways and in the kind of ways that our stakeholders expect us to engage with them
A relationship management system of the type that we are putting in allows us to do exactly that.”
The new system will centralize and co-ordinate information to avoid duplication
One of the other big benefits will be to address the issue of donor fatigue
by streamlining and limiting contact with current and future donors and alumni by better pinpointing projects that they want to support the university on in future fundraising campaigns
as well as volunteer and mentoring initiatives
“It allows us to have a deeper understanding of what’s motivating alumni
to partner with us,” said Pozega Osburn
“How can we understand their interests in a way that allows us to build and sustain these mutually beneficial relationships
The right relationship management system helps us do that.”
the new Blackbaud system will replace the outdated UFriend database that has been in place for decades
security is critical and will feature enhanced safeguards
we work every day to ensure that all of the records that are held by the university are as safe as possible,” said Pozega Osburn
“We continuously improve systems and undertake additional training to ensure the highest possible level of safety and security for all the information held at the university.”
With the new relationship management system now just months away from going live
Pozega Osburn said front-line staff are excited about the potential and the possibilities it provides
“For people who do this kind of work
engaging with stakeholders and engaging with external communities in the way that we do
it’s exciting to see new systems brought into place that can help us really accomplish our goals of connecting with people,” Pozega Osburn said
“There is nothing more important than staying connected with people and this system will help us forge the best relationships we possibly can.”
Artwork improves lives of inmates of women’s prison in Požega
For the purpose of aestheticisation and revitalization of the prison facilities, four artists, Monika Meglić, Ana Ratković Sobota, Vida Meić and Melinda Šefčić, executed visual interventions at the women’s prison in Požega, as part of the Exemplary Penitentiary project, reports HDLU on September 17
Under the guidance of the project author Melinda Šefčić
with the aim of improving the quality of life and interpersonal relations of prisoners
with an emphasis on artistic interventions made in three bedrooms and a living room on the second floor of the women’s penitentiary
The Exemplary Penitentiary is a project of the Croatian Society of Artists (HDLU)
Its implementation began in mid-April and will last until the end of the year
The artistic interventions are just one aspect of the project
which also includes prisoner workshops led by artists Mia Maraković and Martina Miholić
The project is also accompanied by a research component
and the project results will be presented at a public event at the end of the year
The Exemplary Penitentiary project aims to help improve the quality of life and interpersonal relationships of prisoners and bring about the strengthening of social values
as well as the re-socialization of inmates
thereby empowering them to take on responsibilities and activities in building a model prison community
the project seeks to contribute to the construction and development of the prison environment
which will encourage prisoners to behave in an exemplary way and create a new perception of life in the prison community
space will contribute to the creation of a new humane and supportive environment
Directly involving prisoners in the process places emphasis on the therapeutic effects which involve: changing their self-image; improving communication skills; achieving positive and fulfilled feelings; and reducing depression and anxiety among prisoners
Through the creative engagement of prisoners
the project will improve the prisoner programme in the field of work
with a view to successful re-socialization and social integration

The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović attended a swearing-in ceremony of the 33rd generation of soldiers enrolled in voluntary military training in the “123rd HV Brigade” Barracks in Požega
A total of 161 soldiers including 123 men and 38 women enrolled in voluntary military training took an oath in Požega
The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces told them that they solemnly swore to uphold the highest values of the Croatian constitutional and democratic order
but to that which represents the foundations and the connective tissue of this state
He further told them that many will accept the military calling noting that it is no ordinary profession but something more than that
“You are joining the Croatian Army at a time when the world is in commotion and ceasing to be what we perhaps have taken for granted in the past thirty years
a small nation on a lovely but vulnerable spot in Europe
A state no one has given anything to in the past thirty years
adding that this is no reason to be frustrated
Such is the army and the state you represent
Continue with its traditions and experience there where others stopped
Literally carry the Croatian rifle on the Croatian shoulder as once Croatian political leaders such as Stjepan Radić said before anyone else”
“The Croatian pocketbook will finally be ours to keep
the process is somewhat longer and more difficult
but every country’s independence and power
besides its army and an attachment to the same ideals and fundamental values
are reflected in how independent and sovereign it is financially
And I believe with minimal human casualties or none at all”
“This is a matter of being clever – not to stick our nose where it doesn’t belong
omissions and from the adventures of our ancestors not so long ago
to be aware that we belong to the western civilizational and political circle
and not instantly rush at anyone’s signal that could lead to tragedy
if necessary cunningly and in our own interest
That is the motive and the message I have for you
The task of those of us who are governing this country
is to use and manage the Croatian Army as with the most precious resource
And that means that it is always in motion
not to overburden it and expose it to unnecessary risks”
President Milanović stated in concluding his address
Alongside President Milanović were the Head of the Cabinet of the President Bartol Šimunić
the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defense and National Security Dragan Lozančić and the Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković

knowledge and feedback on what they thought the university plan should be
“We wanted to bring the community into the formation of this plan in some really powerful ways,” said Pozega Osburn
who maintained that listening was the key factor in building the guiding commitments of the plan
“As we were prompting these conversations and listening
These are words that were brought forward when talking about the plan and these are the major ideas that we heard over and over again.”
The three commitments of the university plan were then framed from the conversation resulting in Courageous Curiosity
guideposts were developed and aspirations were established
All of the layers were built based on the input from the discovery process
“Nobody can tell our story the way our alumni can tell our story.”
“What people are telling us and what we heard through this whole discovery process is that people expect great things of us
They think that there are things that we can accomplish
areas in which we can collaborate and partner
things we can do to inspire that will make a big difference in the world,” said Pozega Osburn
Pozega Osburn said U of S alumni played a valuable role by bringing their expertise to the table during the discovery process
and she is excited for the group’s involvement as the university gets to work moving the plan forward
“It became clear that alumni want to be involved in our university in new ways
in mutually beneficial ways and in productive ways
That is so important for a university to succeed
It’s a gift to us that our alumni want to be a part of our future,” said Pozega Osburn
“Nobody can tell our story the way our alumni can tell our story.”
“We’re not afraid to ask the questions that need to be asked
We’re not afraid to confront the things that need to be confronted
You can do that at a big research university
and at the University of Saskatchewan you can do it in a powerful way because we have our deep roots in Saskatchewan and we have a certain set of values.”
“We collaborate and we forge partnerships no matter what we’re doing
Boundless means exactly what it says; there is no limit to our ability and willingness to collaborate.”
“The more we can work with and for our communities to inspire the world
the more we can work with and for our communities to address society’s needs for the next generation.”
That’s something Debra Pozega Osburn has seen firsthand
I see a really firm commitment to communities
particularly the commitment to Indigenous communities
I would argue that this is a key part of the U of S story
“I can tell hundreds of stories about people whose lives were changed by access to education,” said Pozega Osburn
“I saw how education changed the course of my family’s history.”
Pozega Osburn’s parents grew up in a small mining town in the upper peninsula of Michigan
Her father joined the Marine Corps shortly after graduating from high school
Bill that supported soldiers who wanted to pursue post-secondary education
Her mother also pursued post-secondary education
Both parents became public school teachers and “spent their careers encouraging people to learn and grow,” said Pozega Osburn
who earned a bachelor’s degree in jour- nalism and a master’s and PhD in American studies from Michigan State University
“My father and mother were the first members of our family to have access to university education,” Pozega Osburn said
“But if they had not had that access to university education
I would probably be in a very different place because I understood university as being something that was accessible.”
After a 13-year career telling stories as a journalist
a career that included stints as a reporter and editor with The Lansing State Journal as well as covering sports for USA Today
Pozega Osburn looked to her family’s story to find her own career passion
“You do get to a point in your career when you understand that you do have a passion for something,” she said
“When I started thinking about a career change
I was very motivated to be in the post-secondary sector because I so believed in
the difference it makes in people’s lives.”
pursuing opportunities from Michigan State University to the University of Alberta (U of A) to her current role at the
U of S where she will
oversee a portfolio that
includes sharing stories
about all the great things
happening at the U of S
and building strong relationships with alumni,
donors and other key university stakeholders
“When you do what I do in the post-secondary sector
you build awareness and you build understanding with people that this is their university
be here and be a part of this place,” said Pozega Osburn
And it’s a place Pozega Osburn is excited to be a part of
The University of Saskatchewan is on the move; I see here a certain kind of ambition for the university to change and grow—and I don’t mean necessarily to grow in size
but to grow in its scope and impact and so forth
I really see that at the University of Saskatchewan.” Pozega Osburn
who most recently served as vice-president university relations at the U of A
a position she held for the past six years
will lead the University Relations team—a team responsible for Alumni and Community Relations
and Marketing and Communications—working to ensure that the U of S has the reputation
relationships and resources necessary to achieve its goals
is the university’s commitment to engaging with communities near and far in meaningful ways.
“I see a really firm commitment to communities
I would argue that this is a key part of the U of S story,” said Pozega Osburn
“Understanding the genuine story of the U of S is job one for me,” said Pozega Osburn
“I don’t come in and invent that story; I work with the community and my colleagues in University Relations to discover it and build our reputation around that (story)
The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović attended a swearing in ceremony of the 34th generation of military volunteers in the “123rd Croatian Army brigade“ barracks in Požega
The solemn oath in Požega was sworn today by 73 military volunteers including 54 men and 19 women
The President of the Republic began his address by greeting all the Croatian military volunteers
their families and friends attending the ceremony after a long time since the number of guests had been restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic
“It’s been quite a while since the most senior military commanders headed by the Chief of the General Staff Admiral Robert Hranj have been present here in such a composition
it’s been a long time since the number of military volunteers has been so small
Quite understandably the reason being human – uneasiness
“The oath you have just sworn to the Croatian Republic
its people and its order is not just a succession of words
In fact in a few sentences it is the essence
democratic state authorities from Međimurje to Dubrovnik and Prevlaka
This is the holy duty of the Croatian Army
Everything else is a noble and welcome addition of alliance
sincere relation with others and the expectation of the relation to be reciprocated
But above all it is the defense of the Homeland”
he said he believes and expects that in several months’ time there will be a new more numerous generation of military volunteers
it cannot happen just by itself and I congratulate you on this because you have made this decision in complex circumstances
I am confident that things will be different in six months’ time
that the world will be more peaceful and more normal as it was for the past thirty years
the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces stated
“What we can influence is the security of our country
the President noted in concluding his address

April 17, 2020 – TCN’s Slobodan Kadic interviews Rubin Kazan footballer Filip Uremovic upon his return home to Pozega.
and most of our footballers who make money by playing in the Russian Premier League have returned to their homeland
Since there are no more group gatherings and training
a former defender of Dinamo and Croatia’s U-21 team
arrived from Kazan (820 km east of Moscow) to Zagreb and immediately headed to his native town in the ‘Golden Valley’
“At the last moment before the border closed
and Kristijan Bistrovic and Slovenian Jaka Bijol from CSKA
We rented a private jet so we could be with our families during this time without football
which I respected until the end,” points out Uremovic
who has been defending for first-league club Rubin for two years
Other well-off Russian first-league clubs have also hit a severe crisis and have introduced austerity measures
Salaries have been cut and football players have voluntarily agreed to a 50 percent reduction in wages
According to one of Rubin’s best players
though the club management notes that there is a possibility to reimburse players in the future
Coach Leonid Slutsky’s players are not exactly sure how they will end up
The Russian first-league is on a forced holiday until May 31
and a decision is being made to continue the league (which should end by August 2)
so everything else will be adjusted accordingly
Rubin Kazan is currently in 14th out of 16 clubs with the same number of points as Orenburg
It’s pretty dense because as many as seven clubs are within seven points
Nine points ahead of Corluka’s Lokomotiv is Zenit in first
the biggest contender for possible relegation from the league
though now everything is possible – even their stay
“The climate is not only bad for football players but for everyone
The economic situation is not great and if I have to grit my teeth for a few months
I don’t think anyone will fail because of it
are giving money for humanitarian purposes
the policy of each club is different and maybe some rich clubs don’t have to cut anything
Oil workers fund my club and we know the current situation with oil prices
and life in every corner of it is interesting
But the farther one is from the biggest cities like Moscow
Petersburg or Yekaterinburg – it is even more interesting
“I’m used to Kazan and I like it because it’s affordable
The league is great and can progress both professionally and vitally
My football camp is about ten minutes away from the apartment
which is fantastic considering that most Russian football bases are far from the city
The only objection is that we are isolated from traffic as all flights to our part of the world go through Moscow
There used to be a direct flight to Belgrade
which would be a real hit,” adds Uremovic
who has a contract with Rubin until June 2024
Uremovic finished his story with the U-21 Croatia national team and can now only play for the A-team
It is a great pride and honor to play for your country
it’s a complex issue because we have a lot of good players and the competition is great in every position
We will see in due time,” hopes the Croatian legionary from Russian Tatarstan
the pandemic should soon cease and he will be on the first flight to Kazan
a club where he is popular and which counts on him in these difficult times
and by the end of this part of the championship
he was one of the top three defensive players
“I still need to make a lot of progress because I am a young player; statistics are one thing
It’s good for me to be in the company of Ivanovic
Rakitski… I’m on the right track,” Uremovic concluded as modest as ever
The Croatian defender is passing the time with the television series he adores
and when asked whether he misses the famous Tartar and eastern dessert Çäkçäk

Can Slavonia compete with Dalmatia and Istria
cannot have competition between its regions but rather have them complement each other for the complete tourist offer of the country
At the first mention of Slavonia and tourism
many people wave their hands because they see Slavonia as a region of agriculture
even those who have scratched the surface of what Slavonia has to offer
And not spontaneously and in an unplanned manner
Traditional manifestations are being strengthened
the regio’s presence at tourism fairs is increasing
and awareness is being raised about its wine and gastro offer
one of the key things is the infrastructure
various centres offering all kinds of content
which are being built and renovated in Slavonia
is the recently opened Museum of Becarac in Pleternica
It is one of the few infrastructure projects specifically built to become a museum
The design was the vision of a famous Croatian architect Andrija Rusan
who also designed the arrangement of the central part of the city for Pleternica
The strategic work we mentioned is best manifested in the interpretation of the centre
in whose realisation over a thousand proud representatives of the Slavonian tradition from Slavonia
in the attitude of the city leadership and the museum
the focus is on a broad view of tourism in the region
she will say that it is the starting point of a tourist visit
part of the mosaic of the rich offer of the whole of Slavonia
Part of Croatian cultural heritage, becarac is known as a form of humorous folk song that originates from Slavonia
It usually involves male singers dropping lascivious lines in front of a tipsy audience that roars from laughter at every rhyme – it’s clever
bećarac was officially inscribed in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list
Everything you need to know about Slavonia on your first visit told
The first exhibition is the only one you can see when you peek through the museum doors
It is called Mala kuća graševine (The little house of Graševina wine)
It presents the rich wine history of Pleternica
and a few interesting songs that will surely delight you
it is impossible to hide the smile on your face and the radiance caused by the song
The lower and main part of the Museum consists of several exhibitions
“Introduction to the world of becarac,” followed by “Becarac through life,” “Becarac calendar,” and finally
“The becarac rhapsody.” It would take a while to describe each of these
but what is interesting and hidden in the Museum is that it is not just about the song
but rather the whole life of a region is presented through becarac
Multimedia exhibits guide you through the Museum
which you don’t even realise since they are skillfully interpolated with the traditional museum setting
exhibits and artistic representations of specific segments
The Museum of Becarac in Pleternica is without a doubt a must-visit point not only for continental but also for national tourism
If we add to that the Terra Panonica Interpretation Centre
which also tells the ancient story of the Pannonian Sea
maybe a train ride through the Pleternica vineyards
we can just conclude that you should leave time for Pleternica – everything else is waiting for you there
