storage of goods and forwarding services in Rijeka
has been hacked by the 8Base ransomware group
According to HackManac, the group claimed the attack on their dark web data leak site and professed that they’ve managed to grab the company’s invoices
and “a huge amount of confidential information”
they plan to publish the stolen documents on Tuesday
Marko Mišković, a member of the company’s management board, confirmed for local news outlet Novi List that the attack was detected on November 30 (Saturday)
and that the company’s IT service preemptively shut down the entire IT system
The relevant authorities have been appraised of the situation
“As for the data that the attackers may have stolen
it is difficult to determine with certainty
but we are a company that is listed on the stock exchange
all our financial reports are publicly available
as well as our customer tariffs set by the Port Authority
so there are no particular secrets,” he said
“We cannot say with certainty whether any personal data was downloaded from someone’s computer
but the damage to the [company] is non-existent
The IT system was restored on December 2 and is now fully functioning
said that the company has not received a demand for ransom
“Our IT department is still reviewing all processes and situations, but for now everything is under control,” she told Večernji List
“I would like to mention that in Luka Rijeka we are aware of such situations because five years ago we experienced a hacker attack
after which we raised the level of protection of our data to the highest possible level
This is exactly why we had no damage from this hacker attack; all our data and documents are protected and there was no threat to us or our business partners.”
It offers ransomware-as-a-service and uses a customized version of the Phobos ransomware
It employs double extortion tactics: encrypts and exfiltrates data and threatens to leak it
Despite being quite active in 2023
the group stop posting entries on their leak site from June through September 2024
“The group made a brief resurgence in late September, establishing their data leak site on new hosting services and publishing data from several compromised victims. This revival was short-lived, as 8base ceased activities again in October 2024,” Trellix researchers said
“There are speculations that 8base’s periods of inactivity might be connected to the Phobos ransomware operations decline
suggesting possible shared affiliates or operators between the two groups
The simultaneous quiet periods could potentially be attributed to law enforcement actions affecting both ransomware gangs’ operations.”
they also claim to have recently breached Madrid-based Originpath Group
and Japanese manufacturing company Iseki Agricultural Machinery
has actually been compromised is currently unknown
(8Base’s posts for each of these companies are boilerplate: they list the same type of data

the Port of Rijeka plays a crucial role as a gateway to Central European markets
With over €25 million in EU funding from the CEF Transport programme
the port’s infrastructure has been upgraded to boost capacity and establish it as a more efficient
sustainable and multimodal hub for cargo transport
In the Zagreb terminal of the Port of Rijeka
a longstanding bottleneck was eliminated through significant upgrades to rail infrastructure and the development of new interconnections
The cargo section of the Rijeka railway station was modernised to support the new container terminal and accommodate longer trains
Additionally, the basic port infrastructure was improved with the reconstruction of a 164-meter quay in the Raša basin
one of five key locations within the port of Rijeka
This upgrade has streamlined daily operations
particularly in the loading and unloading of timber cargo
The modernisation of rail connections has not only increased the port’s freight capacity but has also enhanced traffic management
bolstered the economic competitiveness of the region
Moreover, these projects have strengthened links between the North Adriatic ports of Rijeka, Venice, Trieste, and Koper. Situated along the Mediterranean Corridor
the Port of Rijeka now enjoys better connectivity with the Rhine-Danube and Baltic-Adriatic corridors
Since 2014, CEF Transport has supported over 1,500 projects with a total amount of €37.5 billion. Under the 2021-2027 programming period, €25.8 billion has been made available for grants to co-fund trans-European transport network (TEN-T) projects in EU Member States

2025 - The last two STS (ship-to-shore) cranes arrived today at the Rijeka Gateway terminal
completing the key equipment for the terminal
the project is now approximately 75% complete
Rijeka Gateway is a joint investment by APM Terminals and ENNA and is one of the largest logistics infrastructure investments in Croatia
The project brings significant economic benefits to the Rijeka area and beyond
restoring Rijeka Port’s status as the leading container port in this part of Europe
“The arrival of the last two STS cranes marks a crucial milestone in the terminal's construction
with equipment installation reaching 90% and the overall project completion at approximately 75%
which includes completing the terminal’s key infrastructure and renovating Warehouse 22
I am proud of the entire team for ensuring that the implementation of such a complex project stays on schedule
I would also like to thank the Government of Croatia and all institutions involved for their understanding and highly professional and prompt approach in obtaining all necessary permits and initiating the procedures required for the terminal's construction and operation,” said Peter Corfitsen
The terminal will be the most technologically advanced in this part of Europe
with a special emphasis on sustainability by minimizing its environmental and community impact
the terminal will have an operational quay of 400 meters in length
an annual handling capacity of 650,000 TEU
and the ability to accommodate vessels with a capacity of up to 18,000 TEU
The second phase plans to extend the quay to 680 meters
increasing the annual handling capacity to 1,055,000 TEU and enabling the accommodation of vessels with a capacity of up to 24,000 TEU
The Rijeka Gateway project has already created 100 jobs
the terminal is expected to employ 300 people directly and create many more indirect job opportunities in the Rijeka region by attracting additional investments
Notable women from Rijeka who have made significant contributions to the city
but who have not yet been honored with street or square names
were chosen as symbolic names for the cranes through a public vote involving nearly 8,000 citizens of Rijeka and its surroundings
the terminal area will be symbolically named “Square of Strong Women of Rijeka,” reflecting Rijeka Gateway’s commitment to the local community and its role as an integral part of the urban fabric of Rijeka
“Rijeka Gateway will not only be the largest and most advanced terminal in this part of Europe but also one of the most sustainable
As much as 95% of the equipment at the terminal will be electric
and we are sourcing energy exclusively from renewable sources
contributing to environmental preservation for future generations
We have also implemented advanced water management systems
reduced light pollution through smart lighting systems
and integrated noise reduction technologies
All of these state-of-the-art technologies were incorporated into the project from the planning stage to demonstrate our commitment to being good neighbors to the citizens of Rijeka
which is why we will continue to seek ways to further minimize the negative impact of our operations on the environment and local community even after the terminal becomes operational,” said Maja Borčić
the first two quay cranes arrived at the terminal
The event and the scene at the Port of Rijeka intrigued and impressed all the Rijeka residents
We can see how the terminal is 'growing' day by day
The delivery of these other two cranes is equally an impressive sight and event in the Port of Rijeka that will surely be remembered
The future Rijeka Gateway Container Terminal is the largest
and most complex project in our history; I would say a generational project for the Port of Rijeka
When we sum up all the investments in the terminal and the transport infrastructure
from roads to the railway interface in the port and around it
we arrive at a figure of around 600 million euros
All of this is already visible to the 'naked' eye
'green,' and technologically most advanced terminal in this part of Europe
it will bring a leading position to the Port of Rijeka
and the entire port and transport system of the Republic of Croatia in the northern Adriatic and the wider region
From the position of the Port Authority of Rijeka and the State
I want to emphasize that we are all extremely proud of this project
When we signed the concession agreement with Rijeka Gateway in November 2021
I said that it was the biggest contract in the history of the Port of Rijeka
the largest contract in terms of importance and value for all of us – for this City
and the entire port and transport system of Croatia," said Denis Vukorepa
a joint venture between Danish shipping giant A.P
Moller-Maersk’s APM Terminals and Croatian investor Energia Naturalis (ENNA Group)
has secured electricity from renewable energy sources to power the operations of its container terminal
The estimate is that this move would help Rijeka Gateway—’the biggest’ project in the logistics sector in Croatia—cut down on its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions as well as other harmful gas emissions ‘to a great extent’
the parties involved in the contract believe the Rijeka terminal could become ‘the most advanced’ terminal in the Adriatic region
with the majority of its equipment powered by electricity and mainly remotely operated
According to the Netherlands-based terminal operator APM Terminals
the contract for the use of renewable electricity has been in force since the start of construction and will continue during the terminal’s operational phase
Electricity supplier and member of the ENNA Group ENNA Next will be responsible for issuing the necessary green certificates to make sure the entire energy supply comes strictly from renewable sources – either solar or wind power
we believe that using sustainable energy sources is a vital step in achieving the terminal’s long-term sustainability,” Peter Corfitsen
Rijeka Gateway has been working on several other fronts to preserve the environment
One such instance is the fact that the terminal will be equipped with an ‘improved’ water management and drainage system that
would stamp out the possibility of significant marine pollution
efforts are expected to be made to minimize light pollution
automated lighting systems would be installed
ensuring that the terminal’s inactive areas would not be illuminated whilst not in use
APM Terminals has stated that certain measures are set to be introduced to keep noise levels below the legally permitted limits
These include a system that supplies vessels with electricity from the shore
which would reduce the need to run ship engines
All cranes at the terminal will also reportedly use soft landing technology to reduce container loading noise
while novel sound signals will be employed across the terminal
doing everything we can to minimize the terminal’s impact on the environment and the local community while creating jobs and sustainable growth opportunities,” Corfitsen reiterated
As the largest consumer of electricity within the A.P
APM Terminals has emphasized that the transition to renewable electricity-driven terminal operations is a ‘crucial’ element in the group’s decarbonization efforts
To meet its net zero by 2040 target
APM Terminals has continuously worked on electrifying its terminals
In 2023, the entity made progress in Brazil when the APM Terminals Suape received approval from the country’s National Waterway Transport Agency to change its cargo profile
enabling the terminal to expand the area it would use
The operator had pointed out back then that all equipment would be electric and that the facility would feature a complete environmental management system
and groundwater flow modeling for pollution control
APM Terminals Barcelona held the commissioning of seventeen Konecranes NSC 644 EHY hybrid straddle carriers
projected to reduce the terminal’s annual CO2 emissions by 50 tons
The Spanish terminal is believed to be well on track to meet its emission neutrality goals
having already meet at least 7.5% of its energy needs through solar panels

by local filmmaker Igor Bezinović documents and dramatises the Fascist takeover of Rijeka after World War I
An award-winning film highlighting the history and celebrating spirit of Rijeka has just been showcased to packed houses at the city’s legendary cinema
first showing films a century ago and revived as an independent theatre in 2012
the downtown cinema was buzzing for the screenings of Fiume o morte!
which recently won two awards at the International Film Festival Rotterdam
the film relates the events immediately after World War I when Italian poet Gabriele D'Annunzio seized Rijeka and declared himself head of his own city-state
Known as Fiume to the outside world
including the Italians and Hungarians who had laid claim to it
Rijeka was a disputed territory whose fate was tied up with the collapse of the Habsburg Empire and rise of Fascism after 1918
But the real story lies in the people of Rijeka
including several who play D'Annunzio himself
Praised by Variety magazine, Fiume o morte! (‘Fiume or Death!’) uses vintage photographs and film clips, as well as dramatisations in local dialect, to create a hybrid feature-documentary with shocking echoes that resonate with the present day.

The second phase is an investment of 180 million euros in the construction and equipping of a new 280-metre-long part of the coast

Rijeka Gateway will be the most technologically advanced and sustainable terminal in this part of Europe
Rijeka terminal uses advanced technologies such as fully electric cranes
as well as highly efficient water management systems and systems for reducing light and sound pollution
All of that is done with the aim of minimal emissions of harmful gases and environmental impact
Rijeka Gateway also provided electricity from renewable sources during the construction of the terminal and the operational phase
“We had the honour of showing the advanced and sustainable technologies that will power the Rijeka terminal to the US Ambassador and the trade delegation from Los Angeles
The Port of Los Angeles is one of the largest ports in the Western Hemisphere and the positive impressions of its representatives provide additional confirmation of our good work
Our wish is for Rijeka to become the centre of logistics in its region

“During our visit to the Port of Rijeka
I was delighted to have the opportunity to present the trade delegation from Los Angeles to our partners here in Croatia

which promises to open up new trade opportunities
We’re looking forward to further development that will fully connect Rijeka with the wider region and future cooperation between the Port of Los Angeles

transavia is doing tremendous on this line
I really think it would work out for ryanair as well
Yes but if Transavia compete with Ryanair they may lose their only destination to the city
would be nice if Transavia added Paris from RJK..Note that EasyJet RJK- LGW did not last.
was it just one season.?usually around 30 pax when I flew it
ZERO promotion in UK..and now for S25 easyjet only flying 2 months LGW-PUY...more from LTN
when the government doesn't support the national carrier
