The EHF European League Men 2024/25 season is a historic one for Croatian handball: For the first time
two clubs are competing in the group matches: MRK Sesvete and RK Nexe
While Nexe are well-known contenders who made it to the EHF Finals in 2022
the team from Sesvete emerged on the scene with a young Croatian squad
eager to gain new experience led by Igor Vori as their seasoned head coach
since they entered the Croatian first division only in the 2017/18 season
Sesvete had three consecutive third places and reached the final of the domestic cup competition
All that led to the highlight of the club’s journey — taking part in the group matches of the EHF European League
They still wait for their first point of opening group G with three defeats against SG Flensburg-Handewitt
though they have demonstrated their fighting skills
The guide during Sesvete’s journey is head coach Igor Vori
Olympic and world champion with Croatia and EHF Champions League winner with Hamburg in 2013
it was meant to be just a two-month arrangement
but here we are almost a year later,” Vori says
“My approach with the players is open and supportive — this is just my style
I believe that respect is earned by what you show on the court.”
the main focus is helping his young team grow into the sport
“Helping them understand the demands of professionalism and preparing them for what’s to come
and while I provide them with tactical-technical guidance
I also teach them about discipline,” he says
and that’s the best motivation for me and them
it’s not only that they are learning from me
For a small club from the eastern side of Zagreb
being among the top European teams is something everyone at Sesvete has been dreaming of
and a privilege to compete at such a level,” Vori says
Our focus is on finishing this competition with at least some points
it would be an important milestone for us.”
Sesvete lost their opener 42:25 against defending champions Flensburg
but only suffered closed defeats in the following weeks against Tatabanya (31:27) and Karvina (32:29)
where we managed to keep up for around 35 to 40 minutes
we have shown resilience against teams with far larger budgets
particularly as this is our first time playing two competitions and having two games per week,” Vori adds
Their first home game in Jelkovec provided Sesvete with great fan support that
also put some pressure on the young players and affected them
Vori hopes his players handle the circumstances better and that Sesvete’s first win might come when Karvina come to visit in round 4 on Tuesday (at 18:45 CET, live on EHFTV)
Progress and growth don’t happen overnight
Karvina may not be as well-known as Tatabanya or Flensburg
but they are a well-balanced team with a strong defensive style,” Vori says
but Karvina managed to make a break with the help of their left back Dominik Solak and centre back Jonas Patzel
“They play defence something between a 4-2 and a 3-3
“We will need to adapt quickly to their defence and their impressive backcourt line
Mistakes we made in the first game are all part of our learning process and I hope we will show we have learned from them.”
Sesvete have the second-youngest team in the competition
The squad has been playing together for several seasons and have created a unique blend of youthful enthusiasm and growing experience with the likes of Ivan Dumencic
one player stands out in the competition: Davor Gavric
Initially a centre back but playing on the right
Gavric has netted 23 times in the three games
and the third-best of the entire competition so far
but I would prefer we had won one or two of the games where we came close
Playing in this competition means a lot to us
and despite still not winning we can be satisfied with the progress we have made so far,” Gavric says
playing right back is not new to me; I have gotten used to it and the coach has adjusted the tactics around that
We have adapted as much as possible to this system
Gavric draws praise from his coach for his performances so far
particularly because he isn't even playing in his natural position
He has shown himself to be a complete player
and is demonstrating that he can compete on this level.”
“I could talk about every player in my team
an 18-year-old who already plays an important role on our team,” the head coach says
“I am proud of how quickly they are learning and exceeding my requirements

The Zagreb district of Sesvete will receive a brand new football stadium in 2018
with the new modern expression developed by the studio Proarh architect Davor Mateković
The stadium will be built around the retention of the existing terrain of the current stadium “Sv
“The long plan to make a real stadium that will meet not only the needs of Sesvete, because in this district there are over 90 thousand people, but also the needs for football in Zagreb and for Croatian football in general,” said the president of second division Sesvete, Pero Karatović.
The stadium, which will host 7,000 spectators, will have all the necessary permits under the umbrella of UEFA for match play, with the possible performances of other clubs in Zagreb and the selections of the Croatian national football team’s official matches.
The stadium is designed as a compact arena with covered stands in the east and the west where the terrain is close to the fans like the stadiums in England – in the form of “shells” for maximum aesthetic appeal. The new stadium will have modern dressing rooms, a press box for 40 representatives of the media with their audiovisual infrastructure, a business center under the west stand, a VIP section fit for 200, and the most modern facilities for the management of the Club.
The stadium will not be only for football, but also for other athletics.
“The total project documentation has been completed and on the ground we have already completed the excavation works and the protection of the construction pit. This project should build on the recently completed pool complex and thus round off a single unit of the sports center in Maksimir,” concluded architect Davor Mateković.

Text description provided by the architects. The new kindergarten in Sesvete is one of more poetic projects in recent Croatian architecture. That which was obvious in the competition entry sketches from 2004 was confirmed in the realisation of the micro-world oriented inwards, poetic, but geometrically precise; a meadow softly enveloped by the ground-floor stretch of kindergarten units.
A kind of geometrical, mathematical reduction is a property of several Radionica's projects. This is sometimes readable from the cross-section, sometimes from the ground-floor plan, but always im volume proportions. Projects and realisations of Radionica can often be reduced to elementary parts: basic geometric figures and their combinations. Complex rather than complicated relations between simple parts create layered, inner and outer, closed and open rationalised landscapes.
© Boris CvjetanovicAn important aspect of each public "project" is to remain within the narrow bounderies of set public funding
but still also ensure the adequate final materiality of the "project" in the form of a completed public building
The materiality of the new Sesvete kindergarten befits a public building that finally manifests countless immaterial fluxes in the material world
but still ensuring the required quality in usage and maintenance

The new season of the EHF European League Men
which are divided into eight groups of four teams each in the group matches phase of the competition
in what promises to be a fantastic battle for the title
where the business end of the competition will also take place this season
Flensburg will once again be one of the favoured teams to secure the title
with yet another challenge on their hands for the German side
with four Olympic champions -Simon Pytlick
Adding to their stellar line-up are Germany’s captain Johannes Golla
centre back Jim Gottfridsson or right back Kay Smits
as Flensburg are clearly favourites in Group G
one of the three sides which won the title three times in the second-tier European competition
with the German side aiming to leapfrog SC Magdeburg and Frisch Auf Göppingen
the other two sides which won the title four times
did not have a flawless start of the season
already conceding two losses in the domestic league
against Rhein-Neckar Lowen and against MT Melsugen
with the latter side also being in the competition
a team which has a lot of experience in the European premium competition
Another interesting group will be the one which features Spanish side Bidasoa Irun
Polish side KGHM Chobry Glogow and Swedish side Ystads IF HF
Other challengers will likely be Montpellier Handball or VfL Gummersbach
which will aim to extend Germany’s dominance in the competition
with teams from that country winning 24 of the last 27 editions of the EHF European League Men
The top two sides in each group will progress to the main round
with the knockout phase starting with the quarter-finals and then finishing with the EHF Finals

Croatians like good design, but given their general standard of living it is indeed not irrelevant how much they have to pay for fashionable clothes, shoes and accessories. Therefore, it is no wonder that there are several outlets located close to Zagreb and one of the best-known is the one found in Sesvete called Designer Outlet Croatia
The shopping centre is a joint venture between the Ikea Centers company and Mutschler Outlet Holding AG from Switzerland
The two companies already co-operate in the Designer Outlet Algarve project in Portugal

2023 – A brand new Zagreb McDonalds restaurant has opened its doors
becoming the 45th in the Republic of Croatia
As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes
although the new Zagreb McDonalds has already been in trial operation for about a week now
some new facilities are open in the capital
These new facilities refer to two new Petrol fuel stations
Sesvete Zapad (West) and Sesvete Istok (East)
Two new Zagreb McDonalds restaurants are also now open and functioning within those two petrol stations
president of Petrol Group’s Management Board
pointed out at the opening of the new restaurant
this is a significant step which is part of a major investment that includes ten of their sales points in Croatia
and these two are the second and the third
Slovenski petrol is currently the second largest player on the Croatian fuel market
and Drobne Popović has also announced that she expects them to become the leader in the Republic of Croatia by as early as 2025
While many who visit Croatia tend to naturally avoid eating at McDonalds as it is food that can be obtained more or less anywhere
and they’d prefer to indulge in Croatian delicacies
many of us who live here find the convenience worth while
With petrol stations now gradually transforming into the new “places to be” of sorts since the controversial Sunday working ban was introduced for the retail sector
it’s likely that the American fast food chain will gain in popularity to an even greater extent among road users from both at home and abroad
The global fast food chain McDonald's is looking for as many as 80 workers for its restaurants across Croatia, writes Danica.hr
More than 30 workers are wanted for food preparation in restaurants
Workers are also needed in future restaurant at the Sesvete rest stop on the Varaždin-Zagreb highway
McDonald's restaurant at the Sesvete rest area should be open by the end of the year at the latest
The restaurant chain is also looking for 15 workers at McCafe
of which nine are vacant in the Zagreb area
McDonald's is also looking for more seasonal workers who are offered temporary work during the tourist season and wants to employ about 20 students
The fast food chain in Croatia employs about 3,000 people in 40 restaurants and 18 cities in Croatia
The average net salary for the starting position from this year is 930 euro
The salary includes allowances for working in the afternoon
