The logistics complex operating with the most modern and innovative technologies
built with a 10 billion HUF investment by Gebrüder Weiss Ltd
was inaugurated on Thursday in Dunaharaszti
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gebrüder Weiss (GW) group Wolfgang Senger-Weiss stated during the pre-inauguration press briefing that following the recession of recent years
there is a resurgence of economic activity
Based on the observed growth in industrial production
particularly in the automotive and electronics industries
one can expect demand for expansion in transportation and logistics services in the coming years
Hungary serves as a hub for freight traffic
Central and Eastern European Regional Manager of GW Thomas Schauer highlighted that the new logistics centre is equipped with advanced automated systems

Optimizing product quality and operational sustainability are driving forces at the Coca-Cola HBC plant in Hungary
industry product manager for Mouvex® and PSG®
explains how its SLS Series eccentric disc pumps provided solution
which has its global headquarters in Atlanta
the task of ensuring these partners produce their products at the highest levels of corporate responsibility and environmental sustainability falls to the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (HBC)
The company was formed in 2000 when the Hellenic Bottling Company SA acquired Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd
Coca-Cola HBC prides itself on the fact that its 59 production plants
289 filling lines and 292 warehouse and distribution centers operate in the most environmentally sensitive and cost-efficient way possible
The largest Coca-Cola bottling plant in Hungary is in the city of Dunaharaszti
located about 15 km (10 miles) south of the Hungarian capital of Budapest
The man responsible for meeting Coca-Cola HBC’s meticulous standards regarding production and sustainability is Zoltán Marincsák
who is the Maintenance Manager for the Coca-Cola HBC Dunaharaszti facility
“Sustainability at Coca-Cola is very important,” Marincsák explained
“Coca-Cola is the most famous brand in the world
and we also try to reduce day by day our carbon footprint or effect on the environment.”
it is imperative that unloading times are optimized and that no delays are experienced
lest the strict production schedule be compromised
Knowing that the fabrication of beverages has to adhere to rigorous regulations and guidelines
bases and syrups must be handled in the most sanitary manner possible in order to avoid the risk of bacteriological contamination
This puts tremendous pressure on the pumps that are used to unload the tankers and transfer the beverage components to their specific storage and holding tanks
The unloading of these trucks was a job that the existing twin screw pumps were finding increasingly difficult to perform safely and satisfactorily at the Dunaharaszti plant
“It would also take about four to six hours to empty one tank
and due to the low temperature and highly viscous nature of the concentrates we were transferring
the pumps would sometimes freeze,” said Marincsák
“It’s important that the pumps work every time because the trucks are always coming in and all of our production is scheduled just-in-time
I need to know every time that the system will operate as I require
The twin screw pumps were not able to empty out the total system
so from every tanker we had a lot of wasted product.”
PROBC’s solution was to introduce the SLS Series eccentric disc pump from Mouvex®
SLS Series pumps have been designed for use in the food
all of which require extremely hygienic operations
The SLS Series seal-less pumps incorporate a hermetic pump head with a self-adjustable eccentric shaft protected by a double-wall stainless-steel bellows designed to’ ensure long life and product safety
the eccentric disc technology offers a range of innovative benefits
including strong vacuum and compression effect for enhanced line stripping and optimized product recovery; low shear rate; self-priming and dry-run capabilities; exceptional volumetric consistency; no slip; and almost completely pulsation-free operation
Due to the fact that the pump has only two wear parts
maintenance can be performed while the pump is inline
“The Mouvex eccentric disc technology has a lot of benefits for Coca-Cola HBC,” said Pétervári
the elimination of cavitation and vibration
the improvement of unloading times to around two hours
and CIP and water savings – no flushing water is necessary since the pump is seal-less
But the best benefit for Coca-Cola HBC is that the SLS pump guarantees a higher rate of product recovery because the Mouvex pump can suck much more concentrate from the container and push more of it through the pipeline to the tank.”
Pétervári provided an SLS test pump to Coca-Cola HBC and for Marincsák seeing was definitely believing
he was so impressed he didn’t want the test pump to be taken away after he had seen it in action
they were going to return the trial pump and we said
We would like to keep the Mouvex!’” said Marincsák
After his own SLS Series pump had been installed
Marincsák has also had no reason to question his decision to deploy a different pump technology
There used to be more than 300 kilograms (660 lb) left in the truck and pipe system with the old pump
less than 100 kg (220 lb) remain in the pump and the piping system
if we reduce waste by 200 kg per load and recover more than one ton
A key to the Mouvex pump’s enhanced product-recovery capability is its conveying principle which is based on two stainless-steel components
Through this movement the inner and outer chambers are formed
which displace the liquid from the suction side to the pressure side with an impressively consistent and accurate flow
the rotation of the parts creates a compressor effect that facilitates the stripping of discharge lines
When the operations at the Coca-Cola HBC plant in Hungary were beginning to be compromised by the ill-performing twin screw pump technology
Zoltán Marincsák knew it was time to search for a solution
and he has found the answer in the SLS Series eccentric disc pump from Mouvex
“The reliability of the equipment is very important because we provide high-quality products and to create them we need high-quality equipment,” he said

The year 1956 got off to a shaky start - on the morning of 12 January
residents in southern Budapest were woken by an alarming phenomenon: the earth was moving
The MTI published the following report the next day:
“The earthquake felt at 6:46:12 and followed by an aftershock at 8:41
could be felt in several parts of the country but was not of national proportion
The tremors caused significant damage in Budapest and Pest county
while minor damage has been reported from Baranya
Taksony and Dunaharaszti were the wort-afflicted
3144 of the 3500 houses in Dunaharaszti suffered damage
Six houses collapsed in the 20th and 21st Districts
and the overhead powerlines of the Soroksár suburban railway also broke
Some buildings of the Csepel Automotive Factory were also damaged
Even more interesting was another consequence of the quake
The water flow from the heat sources that supply the Rudas Bath increased temporarily
A map showing the extent of the earthquake (Source: Élet és Tudomány
was caused by the movement of the dolomite slab that can be considered the continuation of Gellért Hill under Csepel Island
The earthquake came as a surprise because the previous quake which could be felt by the public happened around Eger in 1925
Budapest had never previously been affected by a major quake
only a single tremor with an epicentre within the capital has been recorded
an earthquake with a magnitude of 1.5 on the Richter-scale was measured
smaller tremors are a common occurrence around the city
there have been a total of 6 earthquakes on the borders of Budapest
but none of these has reached a magnitude of 3.
Residents of the city could also feel the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that shook Oroszlány on 29 January 2011
no injuries or significant damage was reported in Budapest
Cracks appeared on a panel house in the 3rd District
while plaster fell from the walls of another in Gazdagrét within the 11th District
and underpass in the city was checked - all were deemed to be safe
Budapest's bridges should survive such a quake even if the epicentre was in Budapest
This means that rather than growing like the Celsius scale – in which the same range separates each degree from the previous and the next – on the Richter-scale a level 4 quake is about 35-times more powerful than a level 3 quake
A 4.5 earthquake releases as much energy as the nuclear bomb detonated above Nagasaki
6200 quakes of this magnitude occur on the Earth each year
The walls of the house collapsed in the earthquake (Photo: Mandab.hu/Katasztrófavédelem Központi Múzeuma)
The power of earthquakes can be seen in reports of the Croatian tremors being felt in Budapest's taller buildings
There have actually been similar tremors before
one near Komárom in 1763 is estimated to have been a 6.2 or 6.3. The tremor not only caused damage in Komárom but destroyed the church in Zsámbék
Several earthquakes have been felt in Hungary over the last 65 years
this is a trend that will continue in the following years and decades
The fact that Hungary is relatively calm - from a tectonic point of view - gives us some hope
and the potential to cause serious damage happens each decade

“Thanks to investments such as the construction of Coca-Cola HBC Hungary Ltd’s new warehouse in Dunaharaszti
Hungarian exports could reach 100 billion euros this year”
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Wednesday at a press conference held to mark the new facility’s official inauguration
“The two billion forint (EUR 6.5 million) project makes Coca-Cola HBC Hungary Ltd’s new warehouse the largest food industry warehouse in Hungary”
adding that “the strength of every national economy is indicated by the level at which global brands such as Coca-Cola are present in the country”
Hungary achieved a total export value of 92.990 billion euros in 2016
followed by 50.990 billion euros in the first two quarters of this year
luckily several global brands such as Audi
Lego and Coca-Cola are present in the Hungarian economy
and it is thanks to their investments that the Hungarian economy will be capable of achieving 100 billion euros in exports
Coca-Cola HBC exports the goods it produces in Hungary to 25 European countries
“The investments realised by Coca-Cola are also proof of the fact that Hungary offers the region’s most attractive investment environment
We can also not ignore the fact that the company acquires two thirds of its raw materials
and would like to increase this ratio even further”
Coca-Cola HBC Hungary has constructed a 6500 square metre warehouse in the centre of Dunaharaszti
The 12 metre tall building is big enough to fit 8.4 million litres of products on a total of 12 thousand pallets
which is larger than five football pitches
Managing Director of Coca-Cola HBC Hungary Minas Agelidis and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó officially inaugurated the warehouse
which was then viewed by guests and representatives of the press
Coca-Cola HBC Hungary was the first company to conclude a strategic partnership agreement with the Government in 2012
the company has brought some 15 billion forints (EUR 49 million) of investment to Hungary
while its annual turnover has increased from 87.5 billion forints to 106 billion forints and the taxes paid by the company have increased from 17.7 billion to 25 billion forints
As we wrote before, Coca Cola started to sell pálinka
After a successful cooperation of six years
(Rézangyal Kft) and Coca Cola Hungary will further improve their cooperation with a new trade agreement
