2025 at 12:47 pm ET.css-79elbk{position:relative;}Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School Wrestling team for 2024-2025
NJ — Wrestling at first served as a convenient form of physical activity for Elek Kozlowski
He then flourished in his first year of competing and plans to stick with his new-found sport
Lucas Churpakovich was always passionate about his favorite sport — wrestling
Each may have had a different approach to wrestling
but each 8th-grade student at the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School will continue to wrestle and build on their recent achievements
the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School served as the host to the Raritan Valley League Tournament where both Elek and Lucas emerged as individual champions in their weight class
Elek ripped through the 150-pound division with an upset ride to the top of the podium while Lucas claimed his gold medal when he scored a fall in the 126-pound title match
The Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School placed fourth as a team in the field of 11 schools while eight other of its wrestlers placed in their weight classes
The tournament ended what was a highly successful season that was guided by dedicated coaches
who led the team to a 10-2 record this winter
an NCAA Division 3 national champion when he wrestled at The College of New Jersey
was impressed with the team both on and off the mats
I can't help but feel a sense of pride for the hard work
and dedication our team has shown throughout the season
We faced some tough opponents but what stood out to me was our athletes' growth
We were able to end the season 10-2 with two champions
and eight place winners at the end of the year tournament," Denver said
but I take even more pride in the way our wrestlers handled adversity
and they took every defeat as a chance to get better
This is exactly what we teach our wrestlers
that it is a process and to continue to improve and get one percent better every day," he said
Two wrestlers who are prime examples of Denver's assessment are Elek Kozlowski and Lucas Churpakovich
Elek was in search of "some form of martial arts to compete in," when he stumbled – or in this case
"I live real close to the Middle School and I can walk there easily from my home on Foothill Road," said Elek
who also competes in soccer and track and field
I would need rides both ways from my parents
I had friends who wrestled so I gave it a try."
In the Raritan Valley League Tournament’s 150-pound final
Elek tied the match and forced overtime when his opponent
Elek captured the championship with an escape to earn a 7-6 decision
I plan to continue and wrestle," Elek said
which he has participated in for three years
he cradled Ethan Popeck of Somerville to gain the pin in the second period and the championship
A runner-up finish in the league tournament in 2024 motivated Lucas
"I was determined to win this year after I came in second," Lucas said
Eight of their teammates also received medals
Finishing in third place were Thomas Wodarski at 105 pounds
Nolan Moy at 140 pounds and Payton DeFelice at 225 pounds while Will Suozzo placed fourth at 100 pounds
Two of the team’s female wrestlers – Amor Gonzalez and Isabel Bolanos – placed second in the girls’ tournament
which used the Madison format that doesn’t use weight classes but instead
wrestlers are grouped into brackets based on weight at weigh-ins and allows athletes to compete regardless of their size
The accomplishments that these wrestlers and the team achieved can be traced to Coach Denver and Coach Silva
"We really like our coaches," both Elek and Lucas said
"One of the biggest highlights of the season was knocking off eventual league and tournament champs Somerville in a dual meet," Denver said
"Every wrestler did their job to help the team win the match
I am looking forward to seeing the 8th Graders grow as individuals as they move on to wrestle for Coach (Kyle) Murphy at the high school level."
Here is the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School 2024-2025 Wrestling Roster:

I am most proud of my older ponies that are still out there teaching kids how to ride
I think it’s proof of a strong foundation and good care when a horse or pony is happily working in their late teens and twenties
I would most like to improve the way we look at getting people and ponies started
There is such a rush to get animals and riders in the show ring
Showing should be fun for the ponies and the kids
The best part about being an equine professional is I get to hang out with ponies and people who love them all the time
• The part of training ponies I’m best at is figuring out what keeps them happy and eager to work with us
• My best piece of advice for young riders is spend as much time in the barn as you can
You can learn a lot by watching and hanging out with your pony
I give kids opportunities riding and showing because I was given opportunities to learn and show and I think it’s very important to pay it forward
Plus I love helping kids learn to be empathetic riders
• My favorite horse book is Horse Heaven by Jane Smiley • My favorite non-horse book is All Creatures Great and Small (spoiler
it also has horses) James Herriot made me think I was going to be a vet ;)
but they can be so rewarding once you figure out how to motivate them
I also seem unable to pass up grey ponies with great canters
you’ll find me either in the barn with the farrier and chiropractor
• The future of our sport depends on teaching kids more than just riding
There is no excuse for kids to not know how to at least groom and tack up their ponies
and be safe in handling them on the ground
My absolute favorite show is Devon because I love the history of it
and seeing so many top horses and ponies and horse people in one place… plus the food and shopping are amazing
• The most important quality for a pony rider to have is a hunger to learn whatever they can about horses
You can’t get better if you don’t show up… sometimes you show up and fail
is set to conduct a master class for filmmakers organized by the Hungarian National Film Institute
titled “A Glimpse Behind the Mask,” will take place on July 4th at the Puskin Cinema in Budapest
Zoltan Elek
the only Hungarian-born Oscar-winning makeup artist
has worked on numerous international successes
including Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
for which he won the Academy Award for Best Makeup
attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Elek’s Hollywood career and the secrets of the trade
Elek’s journey began in Hungary in the 1970s and led him to Hollywood
collaborating with stars such as Sylvester Stallone
is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
He also serves as a professional mentor for aspiring filmmakers at the AM/PM Film Training and Career Center
The Budapest master class will provide attendees with insights into Elek’s journey from the Hungarian film industry to Hollywood, as well as a glimpse into the secrets of the makeup artist’s craft and the making of legendary films. Participation in the event is free but requires registration
Judit Elek (1937) is among world cinema’s most uncompromising figures
IFFR published the first monograph on an auteur whose films and wisdom are needed today as urgently as ever
you can find an excerpt from the publication and details of where to buy it
Rotterdam accompanied by a workshop discussion between our guest of honour and the three writers/editors of the book: Gyöngyi Fazekas
“After watching the few of her films I could find with subtitles
but also angry: How could an obviously extraordinary and singularly dedicated filmmaker like Elek be such a little known figure
Even during a time where greater attention is finally paid to female filmmakers
is not unhappy about this – if anything she feels limited when discussed only as a ‘woman filmmaker’ or ‘feminist director’
Of course she is deeply invested in the question of women’s place in society – from her work it is obvious; this is
most emphatically not all Elek’s cinema is concerned with
To present Elek as a feminist filmmaker is to force her to a corner
And if there is one thing she has tried to escape all her life
then it is certainly cosy corners and facile labels
“There are many aspects to Elek’s art that are desperately needed now.”
and how much patience and tolerance we must have with one another.
I would like to thank the team who realised this monumental project
I would also like to thank the Hungarian Film Archive for their previous and generous support
I’d like to thank Judit Elek for trusting a bunch of strangers who came to her and told her how much they love her work – a love she accepted.”

regularly consulting with businesses and drawing on international best practices to propose recommendations to the government
The Prime Minister affirmed that the chamber remains the government’s most crucial partner in economic matters
During the meeting both parties underscored the indispensability of close collaboration
Effective programmes and solutions for the entrepreneurial sector’s challenges can only be devised through coordinated efforts between the chamber and the government

adding that Elek Nagy outlined MKIK’s short- and medium-term objectives
Among the key proposals presented were initiatives to strengthen businesses’ capital position

A Jewish memorabilia collector recalls the Jewish trifecta of women athletes who won medals in foil at the 1936 Berlin Olympics
One of the most intriguing storylines for Jewish fans at the 2024 Paris Olympics has been the resurgence of Jewish excellence in fencing. Of the 20 fencers on the U.S. team, six are Jewish or come from Jewish families
The success of gold medalists Jackie Dubrovich and Maia Weintraub and bronze winner Nick Itkin reminded me of a trio of Jewish fencers who medaled at the same Olympics nearly a century ago — at the so-called “Nazi Olympics.”
Helene Mayer and Ellen Müller-Preis achieved the Jewish trifecta at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin
At an event overseen by Adolf Hitler himself
these three Jewish Olympians captured the gold
As they each ascended the Olympic podium to receive their medals
they did so in front of the fuhrer who would soon set in motion a genocide of their people
Despite winning the silver medal at the Olympics
Mayer is arguably the biggest story of the three
She won a gold medal at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam
and was favored to win gold again at the 1932 Games in Los Angeles
But Mayer learned during the Olympics that her boyfriend had died in a military exercise
Hitler — whose antisemitic manifesto “Mein Kampf” had been published 11 years earlier — allowed Mayer to represent Germany as the country’s token Jew
in an effort to refute claims that he was antisemitic
Though Mayer had left Germany in 1935 to escape the rise of anti-Jewish sentiment
she accepted the Nazi Party’s invitation to represent Germany in the Olympics
in the hopes that the gesture would help protect her family members who had remained in Germany
It was also believed that Mayer appeared on more memorabilia than most German athletes — another sign of the Nazi regime’s efforts to sportswash its antisemitism
It was strongly rumored that Mayer received assurances that her family would be protected if she won a medal and gave the Nazi salute from the podium
falling to fellow Jewish opponent Ilona Elek-Schacherer of Hungary
showing the three Jewish fencing champions at the Berlin Olympics
An official 1936 Olympic card shows the Jewish trifecta on the podium with Mayer performing the Nazi salute
After the Olympics, Mayer returned to the United States and became an eight-time champion in fencing. She was named by Sports Illustrated as one of the top 100 female athletes of the 20th century
was born in Berlin and wanted to fence for Germany at the 1932 Olympics
but Germany refused to allow her on the team due to her religion
Hitler’s election as German chancellor was a year away
but antisemitism was already high in Germany
Müller-Preis did not let antisemitism stop her from making it to the Olympics: She decided to represent Austria in 1932
The German Olympic Committee was reportedly very angry that Müller-Preis won a gold medal for another country
Müller-Preis won the bronze medal again while representing Austria
Müller-Preis was named Austrian female athlete of the year
the ageless wonder competed at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne and finished in seventh place
was at the time the longest of any female athlete
The gold medal in women’s foil fencing at the 1936 Games went to Ilona Elek-Schacherer
She was born in Budapest to a Jewish father and Christian mother and came from a fencing family
Her younger sister Margit was also active in the sport
Elek-Schacherer won gold again in 1948 and silver in 1952
five silvers and two bronzes at world championships between 1934 and 1956 — the most international fencing titles of any woman in history
Mayer would overshadow the Jewish stories of the first- and third-place finishers
all three Jewish fencers ought to be remembered for their achievements
for their courage and the painful choices they made in dangerous times

Judit Elek’s so-far last fiction feature is a curious mix of elements
It started out as an attempt to adapt Marguerite Duras’ 1960 novel Dix Heures et demie du soir en été
and the story of a couple with a teenage daughter driving through a foreign land still forms the narrative backbone of Retrace
It then got augmented with elements from Miklós Mészöly’s 1979 novella Szárnyas lovak
in particular the question of how two people can react differently to the same event
it turned into the story of an immigrant returning with her family from her new home in Sweden to the 1980s Romania of the Ceaușescus
and a parallel narrative set partly in the past of her childhood friend
Ultimately it found its final shape when Elek added some aspects of her own family history – the gruesome fate of her sister Vera
who was murdered in a concentration camp after being abused as a prostitute for the guards
The result is one of Elek’s most cerebral works: a mosaic of interlocking narratives in some half-a-dozen languages where home is a melancholic
and exile maybe the destiny of every decent human being
sharp television documentary about the reality of the work of miners
Dramatisation of the 1794-95 trial against priest and agitator Ignác Martinovics
A visually austere allegory about Hungarian history
A television documentary about legendary singer/composer/actor Tamás Cseh
In 1969, Judit Elek was selected for the first time at the Festival to screen Sziget a szárazföldön (The Lady from Constantinople)
the opportunity to rediscover this psychological drama in her presence and in a restored version
An older woman is forced to leave the large apartment she lives in
She decides to trade it for a smaller apartment with another owner
she finds that her solitary life is thrown into upheaval
In Sziget a szárazföldön (The Lady from Constantinople)
She depicts the reality of housing in Budapest: the high real estate prices
crowded apartments and the system of exchange that results from this
The director herself visited one of these places where adverts are posted by the dozens
she said: “I started by reading these adverts and
I realized that they weren’t only looking for housing
she had distinguished herself in documentaries
she never ceased to maintain a penetrating rigour
in the service of a society that she sought to depict without artifice
Principles to which she would remain attached
including in the creation of her feature films

The Elek Brown Memorial Cornhole Tournament will be held Sunday
November 8 in celebration of his life and to raise money for his family
Elek was a 5-year-old boy who loved numbers
when he unexpectedly died of cardiac arrest at his Franklin Township residence
He was a student at North Sewickley Church Pre-School and was loved and cherished by his parents James A
The tournament in his honor will be an outdoors
The event’s organizer Jared Nash said hosting this memorial was a no brainer
“I was inspired to do this event because my heart just broke for that family,” Nash said
“This is every parent’s worst nightmare and if we can bring a little bit of light and hope to this family it would be crazy not to do this for them.”
He said the family is thankful for the community support
“I have since spoken to the family and they are more than amazing people and appreciate everything that is being done for them to help honor their son Elek,” he said
Registration for the tournament will begin at 11 a.m
Cost is $30 per team (double elimination) with 50% of the payout going to the winners
there is plenty of other things you can do to show support
beer and beverages provided by Pete’s Uptown with donations appreciated for food and beverage
Nash who lives in Ellwood City and is a father himself of two young boys (aged 3 and 11) said Ellwood City is a great community that helps its neighbors
“We would love for the whole community to come out and wrap this family in a community hug and let them know that they have a support system here,” Nash said
He said the local businesses have really stepped up to help
“This is way more than a cornhole tournament
this is a community banding together to lift a family at their darkest hours,” Nash said
“The outpouring of support from Ellwood City and its businesses is incredible
Whatever I have needed has not only been accommodated
it has been done swiftly and followed up with a question of what else is needed.”
Nash said special recognition should be paid to all of those responsible for each piece of getting this memorial tournament together:
“There are so many more people involved behind the scenes and it would take me a week to thank them all,” he said
and I am forever grateful for all the help and time everyone has invested in this event
Thank you for being a tight knit community that looks out for one another
Let’s make Sunday November 8th a day of celebration and healing for the Brown family

Reports that a prominent investor with ties to former President Donald Trump has taken a majority stake in tiny electric vehicle company Elektros (OTCMKTS:ELEK) has its shares rocketing higher in this morning’s pre-market session
Elektros appears to be trying to capitalize on the current run in prominent, market-leading electric vehicle stocks such as Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and Lucid Motors (NASDAQ:LCID)
These names have risen considerably in recent trading sessions
Elektros has issued three news releases over the last few days, and the latest one claims that Michael Dezer, a wealthy property developer with ties to Trump, has become a majority shareholder in the company
That news has ELEK stock up more than 1,500%
Michael Dezer is an Israeli-American real estate developer who owns and operates Dezer Properties
a company that invested in real estate in New York and Florida in partnership with Trump before he became president
who has donated more than $100,000 to Trump’s political campaigns
reportedly owning more than 1,000 vehicles and building several museums in which to house them
If it is true that Dezer has taken a majority stake in Elektros, it would be a huge vote of confidence in the tiny company that trades on the over-the-counter market and has a very low float
there is reason for investors to approach the latest news concerning ELEK stock with caution — and even skepticism
The average trading volume of ELEK stock is just 60,000 shares a day and the company
has not filed any financial or other disclosure documents on a consistent basis
The company also hasn’t filed regulatory documents with the U.S
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on a consistent basis
ELEK stock was trading at the bottom of the penny stock barrel
For his part, Michael Dezer hasn’t said publicly what his interest in Elektros is, or if he has any interest in the company. Also, the fact that Elektros has put out three news releases in recent days is an indication that the company is trying to garner attention as the electric vehicle market climbs higher following last week’s initial public offering (IPO) of Rivian (NASDAQ:RIVN)
While it could be that the news is legitimate, it may also be the case that this is nothing more than a pump-and-dump scheme

From Kosovska Mitrovica on World Children's Day

Elek mentioned that there was a protest on International Children's Day and that all international factors were called to react

Commenting on the repeated stoning of Dragica Gašić's house
Elek says that this case is the best example of how Serbs live

it is clear to everyone that with this attitude of the international community
who is also the director of the hospital in Kosovska Mitrovica
thanked the government and the Office for Kosovo and Metohija that a partial solution was found and that institution is functioning despite the pressure from Pristina
Vjosa Osmani recently stated that she offers to fulfill the obligations from the Brussels Agreement
and in return she is asking for membership of Pristina in international organizations
"He wants to ingratiate himself with foreign factors." If they wanted to form ZSO they could
We think that would solve many problems," says Elek
When asked what he expects from the upcoming dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina
Elek says that experience has taught them not to hope for much
He notes that Kurti will not do anything before the upcoming elections in February
and the north is a training ground for cheap political points.

MILL HALL–Elek Fravel is not a full-time starter
but he sure pounces on every opportunity he receives
And he is doing everything possible to make Central Mountain continue getting creative with its lineup
Fravel not only delivered again Tuesday at home
Looking for a way to get Fravel into the lineup is a great dilemma and Central Mountain is happy to keep figuring things out
The junior designated hitter went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and helped Central Mountain defeat Loyalsock
two-run single in the third inning and a two-out RBI single
while Brady Myers and Chase Brush struck out 17 batters as Central Mountain (7-0) remained undefeated
“Just knowing there’s a chance for an RBI makes you want to hit the ball a little more,” Fravel said
“I just try and change my approach a little bit
and get a barrel on the ball and not fly out.”
Fravel was one of several Wildcat hitters who excelled in key spots as Central Mountain scored its final five runs with two outs
Myers struck out 11 in 4 2/3 innings to earn the win and Brush threw 2 2/3 perfect innings
leaving the bases loaded with one out in a one-run game after entering in the fifth
Fravel capped his day with another two-out RBI single in the bottom of that inning
The junior has made massive strides since last season and is hitting a team-best .692 with 10 RBIs
Central Mountain moved some players around defensively Tuesday and likely will keep taking advantage of the team’s versatility to keep giving Fravel chances
“Elek contributed huge with the bases loaded one time and a runner on the other time
He’s seeing the ball well and putting good swings on them,” Central Mountain coach Mike Kramer said
He’s making the most of his opportunities
and we’re trying to find ways to get him in.”
Loyalsock (2-4) gave Central Mountain its toughest game since a 7-5
season-opening win against State College but opened the door for the pivotal three-run Wildcat third inning rally by making a two-out error
Kaden Rodarmel and Ethan Nagy both collected two hits but the Lancers were again just a play or two from beating an outstanding opponent
“I have full confidence in our defense and that’s why it’s so frustrating,” Loyalsock coach Jimmy Webb said
“I really do think this stretch in our schedule will help us
We played three undefeated teams in a row and going to our fourth (Holy Redeemer) our next game
It can only prepare us and make us better for the long run.”
Fravel helped put Loyalsock on the run Tuesday
go-ahead single which put Central Mountain ahead to stay
Levi Schlesinger (2 for 3) followed with a clutch RBI single and Fravel drilled another RBI single in his next at-bat
Fravel fell behind 0-2 that time after Kelvin Probst had beat out an infield single and stole second
Fravel then stayed with the pitch and scorched it into left field
scoring Probst and providing a valuable insurance run
“I’m just trying to get the ball in play and score the runners
“It felt good because we practice for those moments
Brush made sure Kramer’s call to the bullpen paid off in the fifth inning
Myers was nasty and came back strong after a shaky first inning
The right-hander twice struck out the side and induced 19 swings and misses in his 4 2/3 innings
Tyler Gee doubled and Dylan Bower worked a nine-out walk to load the bases with one out in the fifth
but channeled his inner-Mariano Rivera this time
painting the corners and buckling knees with his curveball
Brush struck out the next two hitters and preserved the 4-3 lead
Six of those outs came via strikeout and Brush did not let a ball leave the infield
“I had no doubt he’d come through for us,” Fravel said
“Chase had an opportunity to come in and close and we needed some strikeouts in that situation and he came in and did it,” Kramer said
“He has a tendency this year to start slow
it was huge for him to be ready in that moment
Coming in and getting the key strikeouts with the bases loaded was huge
That was a huge momentum swing for us.”
Central Mountain complemented Myers and Brush with an offense which consistently applied pressure
The Wildcats generated 10 hits and hit 4 for 7 with runners in scoring position
Nate Helms provided the final big two-out hit in the sixth inning and put Central Mountain ahead
Schlesinger opened the inning with a single
before pinch-runner Cayden Culvey went to second on Connor Fultz’s bunt and stole third
“Timely hitting is huge in the game of baseball,” Kramer said
“We got guys on; we got them over and we had guys who felt comfortable and relaxed at the plate and put a good swing on it and contributed.”
Rodarmel played an excellent game for Loyalsock and ignited both its run-scoring rallies
stole second and scored on Nagy’s double
After Myers had dominated the previous three innings
Rodarmel fueled another rally with a one-out single before scoring on Nagy’s single
reaching base in each of his first three at-bats
“We talk about having no fear and Kaden goes up and does that,” Webb said
“He will swing the bat for us and when you swing the bat good things happen.”
