US Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman visited Esztergom on Wednesday
where he met with refugees from Transcarpathia and held a brief press conference
he once again criticized the Hungarian government and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán
In response to a question from the left-wing outlet 444, Pressman referred to Orbán’s peace mission in early July as ‘just a performance’. The ambassador added that he is not convinced anyone is genuinely following Orbán’s peace efforts
with EU leaders alleging that Orbán acted in his capacity as the acting presidency of the EU
Hungarian government officials have repeatedly clarified that he attended the meetings solely as the prime minister of Hungary
Pressman stated that as long as it is clear to Orbán or any other politician who is responsible for the war in Ukraine
and that it could end tomorrow if Putin decides
Orbán is not a harbinger of peace but of appeasement
Pressman deliberately used the term ‘appeasement’
a term historically associated with conflict-avoiding diplomacy towards aggressive powers
It is most commonly used to describe the actions of
the British government that negotiated with the Nazis before the Second World War
A frequent accusation levelled against Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian government’s pro-peace stance is that they allegedly support Russia’s ‘version’ of ‘peace’
which would effectively amount to a quasi-surrender of Ukraine—a point Pressman implicitly suggested with his use of the term ‘appeasement’
this narrative is contradicted by the fact that Orbán did not begin his peace mission in Moscow
where he held talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
This point was also emphasized by former editor-in-chief of Bild Kai Diekmann in a recent interview with Hungarian Conservative
is the most important thing,’ Diekmann underlined
Pressman’s also shared a post on social media about his visit to Esztergom where he met with Transcarpathian Hungarian Roma refugees who had been ‘evicted’ from their state-subsidized housing after a recent government decree has limited state support for Ukrainian refugees coming Hungary to Hungary from areas of Ukraine not directly affected by the war
(Since Pressman’s post their situation has been resolved
thanks to an agreement between the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta and government)
The same post was also shared on the US Embassy’s Facebook page
acknowledging Hungary’s significant efforts in helping Ukrainian refugees—not excluding praise for the United States
The post reads: ‘The Hungarian people have shown enormous generosity to Ukrainian refugees
and the United States is the largest contributor to humanitarian assistance for those fleeing war
including having invested millions in Hungary’s response to the Ukraine refugee crisis.’
particularly in times of heightened tension
‘It does not serve the Hungarian people and
along with a number of other strategic decisions made in Budapest
risks changing the relationship between Hungary and America,’ Pressman stated
He further emphasized that while the Hungarian government may view its relationship with the US as a political issue
the United States does not share this perspective
US President Joe Biden spoke at a campaign event
claiming that Viktor Orbán is building a dictatorship in Hungary

parish priest of St Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest
who was appointed five years ago by Pope Francis as suffragan bishop of Hungary’s Esztergom-Budapest Archdiocese
Bishop Mohos has been working at the heart of the Hungarian Catholic Church for many years
he worked as archbishop’s secretary to His Eminence Cardinal Péter Erdő
he was the general secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Hungary
These important positions have afforded him profound insights into the church’s current situation
It is therefore not surprising that Bishop Mohos was a member of the Hungarian delegation to the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops
we asked him about the synod initiated by Pope Francis
We also discussed the results of the latest Hungarian census
which are devastating for Hungary’s Christian churches
The first session of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops
the information that has reached believers about the work taking place in the synod and its results has been rather unspecific
it is worth noting that the Synod of Bishops is a relatively new institution that was established by Pope Paul VI after the Second Vatican Council—almost sixty years ago
a reaction to the changes that can still be seen in the world today
The Church realized that it was no longer sufficient to hold a universal council every hundred years
The Synod of Bishops provides an opportunity for representatives of all the world’s bishops’ conferences to meet every three to four years
This is the institution of the Synod of Bishops
its mode of operation changed significantly
synodal topics used to be continent-specific or focused on a particular topic—for instance
not merely to a specific ministry or group
since the theme concerns the entire church
senior members of the church with voting rights
and further specified that an equal number of men and women should be selected
The other change relates to the organization: the participants did not sit in a large
when we discussed a specific topic in groups of twelve
and then we always listened to the one person who was speaking there
The order of sessions determines the character of the entire synod
The course of the negotiations was defined in advance by the Instrumentum Laboris
that is the working document which had already been made public before the synod began
We progressed according to the ideas of the document and the division of chapters
working through the topics listed in the Instrumentum Laboris and discussing them
This obviously determined the course of our discussion
constantly indicating that we should not digress too much
to ensure that the conversation did not become incoherent
So much so that the idea is also included in the final document
so that we can deepen our understanding and interpretation of the concept
what we are discussing needs to be explored in more detail
I have formulated my own understanding of what synodality means by trying to translate it into the familiar categories in which we think
I translated it by considering that baptism is the one thing common to all of us who are members of the church
and everyone lives their lives differently
and I have come to increasingly emphasize this common ground
our shared experience of baptism is what connects us all
This is what synodality now emphasizes—that we all share this gift of baptism and that makes us a community
with everyone actively participating in the community
It should not be that some people are actively engaged while the others treat it only as a service
and occasionally attending church; instead
we should all live an active communal life
Perhaps this is one of the most important points of synodality
because then we can arrive at a common denominator and move together as a people of faith on our life’s journey
the so-called Synodal Way in Germany had a great impact throughout Europe
and represented a more progressive position compared to the mainstream with regard to
To what extent have these progressive guidelines prevailed
I think what the German Synodal Way articulates is not a specifically German
but rather a particular spiritual trend that manifests very visibly in the German Synodal Way
There are many elsewhere who espouse a progressive stance
This is of course one position in the church
but it is not the only one: there are also other spiritual tendencies and currents that differ from it
more or less all tendencies are represented
We ordinary Hungarian believers—based on our personal experiences—are very underinformed regarding the synodal process that has been going on for years
Differences can also be observed in each diocese regarding the preparedness of the faithful
I had the opportunity to write directly to you personally
What kind of comments have you been receiving from Hungarian Catholics
it is important to understand that the process started two years before the October meeting
The extent to which a particular local community
or religious community was involved depends on many factors
I think that at the very beginning of the process
many people did not quite understand or take the measure of the scale of the undertaking Pope Francis wanted to initiate
We are only now beginning to assess what it is all about
Synodality is such a new concept that it takes time to internalize it
and to work out who should participate in it and how
I think this follows from the fact that different communities are aware of and have been involved in the synodal process to very different degrees
and this is characteristic not only of Hungary
it is just that we live in a world where there is such a flood of information pouring in on everyone
and not everyone got their heads around the possibilities offered when
members of the representative bodies of all the parishes were called together by the cardinal to discuss this topic
so that everyone could add their thoughts to it
The working material was compiled at a national level from the materials sent to the bishops’ conference by the dioceses
There is also working material at the European level
there was a European-level synodal gathering in Prague
and monks participated in the first half of the event
and then the presidents of the bishops’ conferences themselves met
but not everyone was informed about what was taking place
I abruptly learned that they had encouraged those who felt compelled to do so to write comments to my e-mail address
I have not been able to answer many of them because I do not have a separate secretariat or other apparatus for this—I deal with correspondence to my personal e-mail address myself
I feel that today’s world is in many ways in transition
One could analyze this from many points of view
but it is certain that our way of life has changed significantly compared to that of our parents and grandparents
It is legitimate within the church to ask how
the role of women can become more prominent
The essential question is how to reconcile this with the identity of the Catholic Church so that we remain Catholics and do not transform into something that is no longer us
would be to ask how we can preserve our Catholic identity and at the same time emphasize the role of women in the church
Moving on to the results of the Hungarian census
we also find ourselves confronting difficult questions
Some 60 per cent of the population answered the question about their religion
Comparing the result to those from the last census—eleven years earlier—the number of Catholics decreased from 3,817,000 to 2,900,000
The situation is similar when examining the proportions of those who profess to belong to a church: in the previous census
There are several interpretations of this trend
Does it imply that the signs of a wider European
and religious individualization—appear in Hungary
Or is it rather that processes specific to Hungary—for example
the government’s policy of supporting churches and the consequent impact on those who consider themselves Roman Catholics—are being reflected in the results
What is the guiding thread by which you try to evaluate them
I am not an expert on this topic and it must be underlined that serious professional knowledge is required to adequately interpret public opinion polls
What I see is that we gather this kind of data every ten years
but—as far as I understand it—the way in which questions on this topic are asked has also changed
the concept changes slightly from census to census
I do also see a trend in terms of what an individual’s worldview may be
I see that there is a more reserved and cautious attitude on the part of many people
politics in Hungary also extends to the field of religion
as some politicians define themselves as Christians
these things are mixed up on some levels: what someone believes in
and how they relate politically to the overall situation
‘We have an openness to a kind of spiritual attitude that is willing to make sacrifices’
I think that there is a trend that can be observed in the entire Western world
whereby the number of people who practise their religion in the traditional manner is decreasing
I think that the number of those who consciously practice their religion is decreasing in a smaller proportion than that of those who—so to speak—experience their membership of the church as a kind of cultural tradition
Devoted believers who actively participate in community life were
not a very large percentage of the overall community in the past
I think that the situation has not fundamentally changed from that point of view
Christian and moral values are not the exclusive preserve of Christians
these values are being eroded to a certain extent
because all of society needs a moral foundation
which society generally respects and values
This process of erosion is certainly not heading in a good direction
You also mentioned that many aspects can influence the interpretation of the census results
and there could even be methodological issues
But is there any conclusion that something needs to be changed
there are processes that go far beyond us as a church
In order to recognize wider social processes
the cultural impoverishment that is underway
it is not necessary to examine society at a scientific level
since we have been seeing the negative trends for many decades
These are processes on a scale that we cannot change
What the church can do in such a situation is to think about what needs to be most strongly emphasized
I think what is truly important for us is to clarify again and again the foundations of our faith
because those who belong to a community out of habit may be unaware of the fundamental elements of that belonging
Joseph Ratzinger attempted to clarify what the church would be like over the coming decades
but they would be much more conscious believers
Their sense of belonging to the community would be based on a much more personal and conscious decision
and consequently also a much bigger part of their everyday lives
I think that if the identity of a community is clearer and more conscious
it makes the decision for those who might be weighing up whether or not to join this community much easier
I think that this is what we can do: articulate more clearly our identity and our values
and that it is worth being honest and fair because that is what makes a person truly human
it will mean a more attractive church overall
what do you see as the source of hope for Hungary specifically
One of the peculiarities of the Hungarian spirit is that—no doubt as a result of our historical past—we have an openness to a kind of spiritual attitude that is willing to make sacrifices
There have been many calls for prayers or even fasts for peace
both from the Holy Land and from the Vatican
and it has a solid record of accomplishment
It is enough to think of St Margaret in the 1200s
and led to her mission for peace between King Béla and his brother István
If we can build on this tradition of openness to peace
it will give us a specific identity for the future and prepare us for a spiritual struggle
We should perceive clearly that there is a profound competition or struggle between different ideologies and spiritual attitudes
We fight this struggle not by social means
and they can give us a very deep commitment
which is perhaps uniquely characteristic of Hungarians
but perhaps more prominent here than elsewhere

We’re keen to hear from people living in Hungary what their hopes are for the political future of the country
With Péter Magyar in the headlines in Hungary after he declared he was launching a new political party
we’re interested to hear how people living in Hungary feel about the country’s political landscape
What political direction do you hope will Hungary take
And have there been any events or developments that may have particularly affected your political views in recent months or years
After the Soviet troops invaded Hungary on 4 November in 1956
He requested political asylum from the United States at the US Embassy in Budapest
what led to a difficult situation for Washington
asylum was usually to be denied in such cases
the official stance was that his issue is to be settled by the Vatican and Hungary
and evaded a possible re-arrest by the newly installed Communist authorities
Mindszenty could not leave the building of the embassy
His two-decade-long ‘voluntary imprisonment’ began
Mindszenty continued to advocate for the case of Hungary
and its fallen revolution: even in his physically restricted situation
Sometimes he received responses from the president
The archbishop used this narrow channel to inform the Western world about the situation in Hungary
these reports also played a role in Kádár announcing a general amnesty in 1963
continued to see Mindszenty as his personal enemy
The cardinal had in fact been arrested in 1949 under Kádár’s tenure as minister of internal affairs
Mindszenty also made the situation difficult for the Communist authorities
as he refused to resign as Archbishop of Esztergom
and therefore the main church dignitary of Hungarian Catholicism
while Kádár tried to strike a compromise with and pacify the Church by requesting the Vatican to name more pliant bishops and using the secret service to force many priests to become informants
the titular leader was still his avowed enemy
also prevented a more cooperative archbishop to be named
All this meant that the plan to fully pacify the highest echelons of the Church was delayed
this also hampered the reconciliation between the Vatican and the regime
something Mindszenty in fact wanted to prevent at all cost
The Catholic Church of Hungary therefore was divided between the more cooperating and the dedicated priests
the latter ones rallying around the archbishop
the presence of Mindszenty at the Embassy also caused tension between Hungary and Washington
the goal of Kádár was to have Mindszenty abducted or arrested
The idea was that the simplest way to get rid of Mindszenty was to force him to resign from his position of archbishop
allowing the cardinal into an actual exile
the government proposed this framework to the United States and to Mindszenty
setting strict preconditions: he would only leave the embassy
and the government would release imprisoned priests
as well as rebuild the Regnum Marianum church
a symbolically important place of worship blown up by the Communist authorities in the Rákosi era
and thus Mindszenty remained at he Embassy
But the situation was no longer tenable for the Vatican either
Pope Paul VI and the Hungarian minister of foreign affairs met in Rome
It was the first time that a Communist cabinet member from Hungary and a pope negotiated in person
in order to restore the diplomatic relations between the Vatican and Hungary
While Mindszenty was still reluctant to leave
the cardinal was absolutely unwilling to renounce his position of Archbishop of Esztergom
was pushing for that to happen as in the meantime it had struck another deal with the Kádár regime: if Mindszenty finally resigns
all imprisoned clergymen would be released
the pope declared the seat of the Archbishop of Esztergom vacant
he settled in the Collegium Pazmanianum (Pázmáneum)
the Hungarian Catholic seminary of the city
Despite of multiple forces trying to silence him
He travelled around the world and addressed diaspoa Hungarian communities
His aim was to continue his pastoral duties
and to strengthen the spirit of his compatriots
the cardinal travelled to Venezuela and Colombia
his worsening health forced him to abruptly end his journey
Mindszenty returned to Vienna and was hospitalized
He passed away in a church hospital in Vienna on 6 May 1975
Mindszenty’s remains were buried in Mariazell
Mindszenty was reburied in Esztergom in 1991
József Mindszenty was forced into exile (first
an actual one) just days after he was freed from the prison of the Communist regime
His life took a rather tragic turn from 1949 onward
the vicissitudes did not break Mindszenty’s will and determination to stand up against the Communist dictatorship
He relentlessly tried to help the victims of the regime
where he lived under constant danger of expulsion
This indeed makes him a role model of bravery and unbreakable faith
His merits have been recognized by the Catholic Church as well: Mindszenty has been made venerable
he has also rightfully earned the moniker ‘white martyr’: he did not sacrifice his life in the conventional sense
The net sales revenue increased by 22.3 per cent to 2.144 billion euros
as announced by the company’s executives at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday
The Deputy CEO of the company Róbert Krisztián added that due to disruptions in logistics and supply chains
and significant increases in energy and raw material prices
Magyar Suzuki Ltd.’s profit was halved compared to the previous year
He mentioned that nearly 88 per cent of total sales
He also noted that the Esztergom plant manufactures the Suzuki Vitara and S-Cross models
with the former being popular abroad and the latter being well-received in Hungary
He emphasised that for the seventh consecutive year
the company maintained a leading position in Hungary’s new car sales
achieving a market share of nearly 12.5 per cent with approximately 14,000 registered new cars in 2022
This means that every eighth new car in the country bore the Suzuki logo
He further highlighted that out of the approximately 14,000 Suzukis registered last year
nearly 6,800 were sold to corporate and institutional customers
placing the brand in fourth place among fleet sales
the deputy CEO noted that experts are closely monitoring and analysing the market situation
anticipating a 5-6 per cent decline in the total new car market in Hungary compared to 2022
the company is hopeful that inflation and interest rate reductions in the second half of the year will stabilise the market enough for ‘new car sales to find their footing’ in Hungary
there is a continuous high demand globally for the models manufactured in Esztergom
resulting in an increase of production capacity through accelerated manufacturing lines and increased workforce
the plans are to manufacture 168,000 cars at Magyar Suzuki Ltd.
nearly a 50 per cent increase in production volume compared to 2021
and IT ldikó Gyurján reported that the workforce at Magyar Suzuki Ltd
with an increase of 400 employees between early 2022 and May 2023
Suzuki plans to hire an additional 178 workers until August–September this year
The company’s employment is based on three pillars: the company’s own staff

André Kertész was one of the 20th century’s most prolific self-taught photographers
and on to exhibit in cities such as Melbourne and Tokyo
it’s the turn of Amsterdam’s Foam to host a substantial exhibition of Kertész’s work
and you can see that he had hardly any predecessors to what he did in photography,” curator Mirjam Kooiman tells AnOther over the phone
“Kertész was a source of inspiration to big names in photography
Brassaï.” Split into four sections – the Hungarian
New York and International periods – Foam’s exhibition journeys through Kertész’s oeuvre using almost 200 prints
and a selection of his lesser known and largely unseen colour photographs
Kertész’s practice was entirely singular; where his contemporaries were making use of hefty cameras which required tripods and seeking painterly compositions
he worked with smaller devices that allowed him more spontaneity when shooting
“He didn’t want to put too much artifice in his prints – he wanted to be simple and clear and truthful,” Kooiman explains
Kooiman highlights the extent of his differing approach to photography
“When he was called to the Austrian-Hungarian War he took his camera with him
but instead of photographing the front he was more focused on finding beautiful compositions,” she says
“capturing his personal experiences with other soldiers around him and their daily lives in war – a personal diary rather than news images.”
It was when Kertész was recovering from a wartime injury in 1917 that he took Underwater Swimmer
It has been hugely influential to image-makers the world over
“Kertész was shot and his arm was paralysed for a while,” Kooiman explains
“He did recover from it completely – it took a month – and in the meantime
he was photographing.” The black and white image depicts a lithe man swimming beneath the surface of a swimming pool
the water dappling the light and distorting the figure ever so slightly
there are two possibilities as to the swimmer’s identity: some accounts state it is one of Kertész’s brothers
while others suggest it is a fellow injured soldier taking part in swimming as physical therapy
saying “he made a lot of photographs of his brothers as they were very athletic
When you look at the photos from the Hungarian period
you can only imagine how romantic his life was
A lot of his work was made in the countryside and you see his brothers swimming and dancing – it is a very romantic view of the Hungarian countryside.”
In this sense, Kertész’s choice of subjects that were not previously deemed worth photographing also set him apart from his contemporaries. And if further proof of Kertész’s genius were needed, last year Sir Elton John named Underwater Swimmer the most influential photograph of the 20th century
“I chose this one because I think it’s had such an influence on so many photographers and artists,” the singer and avid photography collector stated
this is the first photograph that made a man’s body sexy
I think it revolutionised how people look at the male form
I consider this one of the pièces de résistance of my collection.”
André Kertész: Mirroring Life runs until January 10

As Netflix’s historical drama approaches its final season
it’s time to talk about the amazing locations where the series was filmed
It might come as a surprise that although the series is set in medieval Britain
The majority of the scenes were shot on land owned by Korda Studio near Budapest
The opening scene of the fifth season was set in Iceland
but in reality it actually took place in an old quarry outside Budapest
Even Emily Cox (Brida) was surprised how this was possible
“It didn’t feel like we were in Hungary because it’s supposed to be Iceland
you can actually travel to Iceland if you just drive for an hour
that’s interesting’.” She told RadioTimes.com and other press
But it wasn’t just the Icelandic scene that was outstanding
Göböljárás was used to partly recreate Winchester Palace
Dominic Hyman said that the village was a very beautiful location
Throughout the series we can find other Hungarian locations
Esztergom castle is a combination of medieval and Renaissance architecture
much of which was lost for hundreds of years until archaeological excavations began in the 20th century
This approach of taking what is essentially a Sussex story and setting it abroad may seem strange at first
As executive producer Nigel Marchant explained: “I think what Hungary brings to us is this sense of an other world
We don’t really know what England looked like 1,000 years ago
so although it’s not England and we shot it on location
it has this sense of otherness to it that I’ve always really enjoyed.”
The star of the series was delighted to have the opportunity to play Uhtred and thanked the crew for their work
Alexander Dreymon said regarding the final season:
Playing Uhtred for 5 seasons has been a wonderful journey
And I’m truly grateful to have been given the opportunity to direct
I came to fully appreciate the spectacular talent and skill of our cast and crew even more
without whom none of this would be possible.”
Fabry was until now director of the Pastoral Institute of the Hungarian Episcopal Conference
carried out his philosophical and theological studies at the Central Seminary of Budapest
was ordained a priest in 2000 and incardinated in the diocese of Kaposvar

Written by the Hungarian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Péter Szabadhegy
this article appeared in the May 2016 edition of the Westminster Record.
In a joint initiative with the Church of England and the Catholic Church of England and Wales
the Embassy of Hungary will bring a relic of St Thomas Becket
a Mass will be celebrated by Cardinal Péter ErdÅ‘
Also present at the Mass will be János Áder
the relic from Esztergom will be displayed and celebrated together with other relics of St Thomas at Westminster Abbey
the relics will be transferred to Rochester Cathedral and then on to Canterbury Cathedral
This will be the first time that this particular relic of St Thomas Becket
after having been kept with great reverence in Esztergom
The relic represents the deep and manifold historical and cultural links between Hungary and the United Kingdom
The series of events will provide an opportunity for many people to venerate the relics and contemplate the relevance of Thomas Becket in today’s society
The devotion to St Thomas was revitalised by the Catholic Church in Hungary under the communist regime when the Church suffered serious limitations to her liberty
Since 1977 a candle lighting ceremony and a symposium have been held annually in Esztergom to honour St Thomas Becket on his feast day.Among the many historical and cultural links uniting England and Hungary
the ideal friendship of the primate seats of Canterbury and Esztergom have particular significance
The story can be traced back as far as the 12th century
when two holy and uncompromising archbishops
Thomas Becket in Canterbury and Lukács Bánfi in Esztergom
It is very likely that Archbishop Lukács adopted the cult of the martyred Archbishop of Canterbury immediately after his canonization
Written evidence from 1191 suggests that a church and provostship dedicated to St Thomas Becket were already functioning in Esztergom
founded by either Archbishop Lukács or his successor
was the centre of St Thomas’s cult with a chapter of six canons and proper liturgical texts
Queen of England and later spouse of Béla III of Hungary
was also instrumental in bringing the saint’s devotion in Hungary
Queen Margaret had personally known Thomas Becket at the court of her father-in-law Henry II
and she kept the martyr’s memory with great reverence in the court of her second husband
We have no reliable information on how the relics of St Thomas arrived to Hungary
that one or two prelates from Hungary were present in Canterbury at the 1220 reburial (translatio) of St Thomas Becket’s body
On that occasion his tomb was opened and relics were extracted
We know that Archbishop János of Esztergom (1205–1223) had the opportunity to meet Archbishop Stephen Langton personally (e.g.
and it is reasonable to suppose that he might have asked for a relic for the church dedicated to the saint in Esztergom
It is interesting to note that in Hungary only the Esztergom liturgical calendars celebrated the feast of the translation of St Thomas Becket on 7 July
The first inventory of the Esztergom Cathedral Treasury
reports the presence of St Thomas Becket’s relic (a part of his arm) kept in a gold plated silver reliquary
It testifies to the relic’s presence in Esztergom
before the destruction of Becket’s bones in Canterbury by order of Henry VIII
Another inventory from 1687 proves the relic survived the Ottoman occupation of Esztergom (1543-1683)
The church of St Thomas was indeed completely destroyed during Ottoman rule and the provostship survived only as a titular see held by one of the canons of the Esztergom Metropolitan Chapter
On the site of the former church in St Thomas Hill a small chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was built in 1823
It is also significant that the devotion to the martyred bishop
who strenuously defended the Church’s rights against the State
was revitalized in a period when the Church in Hungary suffered serious limitations to her liberty
Cardinal László Lékai
who in the 1970s introduced a candle lighting commemoration on the 29 December feast day of the saint and had a fragment of the relic transferred to the chapel
where in 1977 a Hungarian-English plaque was unveiled in St Thomas’ memory
Since then every year on the feast of St Thomas
the relics are displayed at the chapel and a commemorative symposium is addressed by high-ranking civil and Church authorities as well as by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Hungary
Details of the events of the St Thomas Becket pilgrimage are as follows:
