The U.S. will expand an air base in Eastern Europe to house nuclear-capable fighter jets, according to a new report, after years of cultivating closer ties with Hungary under broader efforts to strengthen the NATO alliance's borders with Russia
British newspaper The Telegraph reported on Monday that government contracts indicate plans are in place to upgrade Kecskemét air base, a Hungarian military facility located to the southeast of the capital
The base will likely house U.S.-made F-15 Eagle strike tactical fighter jets
with an unknown number of A-10 Warthog close support aircraft and C-5 Galaxy transport planes
The F-15 is certified to carry B61-12 nuclear gravity bombs

Up to 400,000 cars will roll off the production line in Kecskemét every year
Foreign Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó announced in Stuttgart on Tuesday
Mercedes-Benz decided to build a plant in Hungary
and now a development similar to that of that time is taking place in Kecskemét
Mercedes will bring the production of two model series based on the new platform to Hungary
making Kecskemét an important stronghold of the German company’s electric mobility strategy
“The start of production in the new Mercedes factory also means that Hungary will soon be able to build one million cars per year
so we will belong to the elite club of the automotive industry,” emphasised Szijjártó
Negotiations are currently underway on further development projects of a completely new dimension

Mercedes-Benz is investing more than one billion euros in Hungary
The new production unit will start operations in mid-2026
Mercedes-Benz's investment in Kecskemét is well underway
with new buildings already in place and production equipment arriving
they are being put into operation and the first prototypes are being assembled
director of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft.
the new plant is a big step forward for Kecskemét production
as it will enable the plant to enter the so-called core segment
The move will further strengthen Kecskemét's position in the Mercedes-Benz production network
The aim of the investment is to enable Kecskemét to produce models based on the MB.EAM platform
The real challenge is that the integration of the necessary production lines will be carried out while the Kecskemét plant will also produce its existing models - EQB
preparations are underway for the production of entry-level Mercedes based on the MMA platform
The changeover is of course having an impact: in 2023 174 thousand cars rolled off the Kecskemét production lines
from the second half of 2026 the facility will be able to produce cars in even larger volumes
and will continue to produce both conventional and electric cars in parallel
Jens Bühler said in the interview that the company will create around 3000 new jobs in the future
Mercedes-Benz currently employs around 4500 people in Kecskemét
and securing the right workforce is a challenge that the company is preparing intensively to meet
Competition for good staff has increased significantly in recent years
adding that the company can currently fill all vacancies
a good environment and competitive wages are what keeps workers in Kecskemét
which is why the factory does not face a shortage of staff
The interview also touched on when Mercedes-Benz will be able to produce only electric cars in Kecskemét
There is no answer to this question at the moment
but the factory must become carbon neutral for the entire product life cycle by 2039 at the latest
„Once the market has fully switched to electric drive
the Kecskemét plant will be ready to produce electric cars at full capacity," Bühler said

Källenius emphasized that the Kecskemét plant is a crucial part of their global production network
He stated that the future is being built in Kecskemét
especially after the first EQB compact SUV model rolled off the production line in the plant in the autumn of 2021
Ola Källenius revealed that the first purely electric
serially produced car made in Hungary was a milestone in the history of Mercedes-Benz
and that it greatly impressed the top management of the corporation that the actual production began just 12 months after the decision was made by the board
‘It’s no secret that expansion is about expanding the product portfolio
we will also be able to serve Mercedes luxury car buyers from Kecskemét,’ he stated
He explained that as electric vehicles gain more ground compared to internal combustion engines
they are also building a battery assembly plant in the city
It will be a completely carbon-neutral facility
with geothermal energy planned to be used for heating
The Index article noted that according to many
Hungary continues to serve as an assembly plant for Western capitals
with investments still attracted by relatively inexpensive labour and tax incentives
stating that we are well beyond that stage
when Kecskemét still operated as a German counterpart to its sister plants in Germany
the relationship was somewhat master-apprentice-like
all our sites contribute to the know-how of the global production network
Kecskemét is a perfectly equal partner in this
and it is among our best-performing plants worldwide,’ the top executive of Mercedes-Benz nailed down
the article also inquired about Ola Källenius’ first car
The 54-year-old Swedish executive told Index that he began his driving career at the age of 19 or 20 behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf I
he spoke of it saying: ‘In such a large car portfolio
you can never say which child you love the most,’ but nowadays
he has the privilege of driving an EQS 580
and it greatly facilitates his life that the car can travel almost 600 km on a single charge
Hungarian Conservative reported on a meeting in March this year between Hungarian Economic Development Minister Márton Nagy and the leaders of Mercedes-Benz
and communications and external relations manager Sándor Dávid were the ones present at the meeting
The parties discussed economic processes and reviewed the state and competitiveness of the automotive industry
The ministry emphasized that automotive manufacturing
is one of the pillars of Hungary’s economy and is considered a strategic sector in the new industrial strategy currently under development
Mercedes is one of the world’s most successful automotive companies
the Mercedes-Benz Group turned over €150 billion and employed nearly 170,000 people
Mercedes has been present in Hungary for nearly 15 years
producing around 135,000 vehicles annually
with an annual revenue exceeding €3 billion euros and a workforce of nearly 5,000 employees
As Hungarian Conservative also reported in July 2022
Mercedes-Benz is expanding its factory in the central-Hungarian city
which will allow the facility to produce electric vehicles as well as new model luxury cars
As the global automotive industry increasingly shifts towards using green technologies
it is crucially important for Hungary to win investments that enhance the competitiveness of Hungarian automobile manufacturing by introducing production lines for electric vehicles
The Mercedes-Benz investment demonstrates that Hungary is able to adapt itself to the requirements of the green transition
and the country is ready to provide the necessary expertise to support the production of electric SUVs
and the rapid growth of urban populations led to a housing shortage in much of Europe
The modernization of agriculture brought large numbers of people to the cities
and industrialization went hand in hand with the building of new towns and parts of town to house the employed masses
as the party-state leadership also wanted to represent the efficiency and strength of the socialist economy by rapidly building houses
In the countries of Central and Eastern Europe
after World War II and for four decades afterwards
the construction of housing estates became dominant
providing an opportunity for the realization of the socialist ideal of man and the family model
bringing about significant changes in the structure of settlements
One of the most pressing problems of the 20th century
could only be solved in the 1970s and 1980s due to industrialized housing construction
14,000 flats became completely uninhabitable
the destruction was not consistent throughout the capital
as the Allies bombed mainly industrial and railway infrastructures
often hit residential buildings near the targeted facilities
the housing crisis can be traced back to the second half of the 19th century
when the urban industry began to develop massively and the masses
began to flow into the cities in search of a better life and work
large numbers of people from the breakaway regions also arrived in the mother country
It was these environmental and social influences in the last century that triggered the fundamental ideas to which 20th-century urbanism can be traced back
This level of development and population growth could not be matched by the historicist
often number-speculative tenement building of the capital
with masses of people living in poor conditions
socialist realist architectural principles were enforced by Imre Perényi
thus the following year the ‘socrealist’ style became the dominant one
The edifices of this style were built using mostly hand-made techniques
but at a very slow pace compared to the number of apartments needed
the state recognized that it would not be able to build sufficient housing at such a pace—therefore
socrealism was replaced by industrialized prefabrication and factory technology
The main positive aspects of prefabricated construction elements were their cheapness and speed of production
as they could be brought into operational status with little reworking
in addition to their structural properties
The panels were reinforced in the factories
the joints were put together along the edges of the body by further reinforcement
the structure was stabilized by concreting
Mass housing development was initially concentrated mainly in northern Europe
the Hungarian government was to purchase the Danish Larsen-Nielsen technology
but for loyalty to the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (Comecon) and for financial reasons
the government opted for the Soviet equivalent of the prefab factory
In 1962 the decision was made to buy the first Soviet factory
and by 1964–65 the first experimental prefabricated housing factory was built in Budapest
under the name of Budapest Housing Combine
the housing factory No II (Larsen-Nielsen) was built on Illatos Road in the 9th district
No IV on the border of the 11th and 22nd districts
The Zugló housing estate used the products of the No II factory
Each factory produced different elements; the assembly of the panels made up a unit
of which a housing factory produced about six or eight types and from which the architects built the edifices
the Ministry also specified which housing factory’s elements should be used in the design of a particular building
constant contact with the Budapest Construction Investment Company (FŐBER) because if a factory ran out of a sectional element
There were two possible locations for the construction of the various housing giants to solve the social problem
where it could be done less effectively by reorganizing the properties
making the reconstruction of the area more expensive
or in the previously undeveloped areas on the outskirts of the city
As land prices were not taken into account at the time of the major public constructions
there was no incentive for the state to make better and more economical use of land closer to the urban core and to maintain the inner parts of town
Because of the problems of quantity production and the issues mentioned above
the new houses were already the subject of much criticism during their building
as the tightly-paced constructions were accompanied by poor implementation and sloppy workmanship
The housing estates followed the strict principles of modern urban architecture: freestanding point-blocks and terraced houses were built
and the strict system of standards regulated both the apartments and the estates as a whole to the smallest detail
The pressure to meet the design constraints meant that the ideas of construction companies and housing factories overrode those of the architects
and it was often the case that the institutions and service units planned for the estates could not be built
The quantity constraints meant that factories produced few types of elements
so there was little opportunity to modify layouts and the appearance of buildings
and contractors were reluctant to create more varied site layouts for various reasons
The services and community centres were located in the centre of the housing estates
The primary concern in the construction process was not quality housing
so it is no coincidence that it was thought that the building of prefabs was in effect the housing of the future
nearly 1 million dwellings were built under the housing programme between 1961 and 1975
300,000 of them in Budapest; a large part of the country’s population still lives in the apartments built during that period to this very day
Despite the difficulties and the negative aspects
anyone who has lived in or visited a prefab will never forget it
Public housing cannot be said to be entirely negative or positive
but it is a legacy from the past that defines who we are
The fact that nowadays every home is close to a human infrastructure that meets people’s needs
is largely due to public social policy and housing developments
it is also very important to mention that the building of prefabricated houses meant modernization back then
as most people moved from shared rentals to relatively affordable prefabs—people felt that having such housing practically brought a different dimension to their whole life
Problems can and should be alleviated at both a social and technical level

One of the oldest cemeteries of medieval and early modern Kecskemét was discovered during the beginning of the latest phase of the renovation of the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Kecskemét
archaeologist András Kristóf Fazekas announced
who is also the curator of the Kecskemét Katona József Museum
recalled that the Franciscan order was gifted the area of the site in the 1640s
The construction of the still-standing baroque-style
square-shaped monastery began after the fire in the medieval centre of Kecskemét
it was presumably built in the early 1400s
archaeologists unearthed this core preserved between the foundation walls
The current excavation extends beyond the former monastery walls in the centre of Kecskemét
The area excavated in recent weeks was only 15 square metres large and was archaeologically well-known
From the second half of the 14th century until 1778
stretching from the Calvary in front of the church to the entrance of the Kodály Institute
was one of the oldest cemeteries in medieval and early modern Kecskemét
In the late 18th century, Maria Theresa’s decree ended burials within the city and designated new cemeteries outside the city limits
experts uncovered and collected a significant quantity of human bones
finding intact or partially preserved skeletons in 18 sections
the significant disturbance was caused by centuries of graves being reused
and the construction of the north-eastern wall of the monastery in the early 18th century
earthworks related to various constructions and utilities infrastructure also disturbed and destroyed graves
Fazekas explained that timber remains and coffin nails have been found
indicating that the deceased were buried in wooden coffins
The orientation of the skeletons was uniformly southwest-northeast
Archaeologists mostly found remains of infants and children among the excavated graves
This can be primarily explained by the fact that they were exploring the upper layers of the cemetery
One of the excavated graves stood out as a burial place for an infant
whose body had disintegrated from the chest down
about 70 centimetres deep from the current ground level
almost directly beside the sanctuary of the church
bronze-spiralled beaded headband was placed on her head at the time of burial
According to the expert opinion of archaeologist Orsolya Zay
headbands of this type were used in the 1600s
The skull and headband were excavated and preserved together
allowing for the possibility that the headband of the girl who once lived may regain its original beauty in the workshop of a restorer

as mentioned ,the Minister also noted that the aircraft is not yet flying under Hungarian registration
including its registration in the Hungarian register
Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky noted that mobility is a fundamental need of all armed forces
which increasingly requires the development of air transport
but also the increasing distances that personnel and supplies have to cover
given Hungary’s active role in remote missions
justify the use of modern military transport aircraft with high transport capacity
Following the retirement of the Antonov AN-26 military transport aircraft and the growing military transport needs
the Hungarian Defense Forces will acquire two Embraer KC-390 Millennium transport aircraft by the end of 2024
which will provide the Defense Forces with additional capability in military air transport
The Hungarian version of the aircraft will be capable of carrying payloads of up to 26 tons and will be able to transport beds for intensive care patients and the wounded
the acquisition will also provide the Defense Forces with a completely new competence
The KC-390 Millennium is capable of aerial (in-flight) refueling of combat aircraft
including the JAS-39 Gripen fighter of the Hungarian forces
The investment is therefore a niche development for NATO in the region
Hungary is not the only country that buys these aircraft
The Czechs are the fourth NATO member state in Europe to order the KC-390 Millennium
The KC-390 Millennium from the Brazilian Aerospace company Embraer is a multi-mission
the aircraft is capable of carrying out search and rescue operations
medical evacuation and refueling aircraft in the air
C-390 Millennium reaches a top speed of 988 km/h
with a standard cruising speed of 870 km/h
The KC-390 version can carry 80 fully equipped soldiers
66 paratroopers or 74 stretchers in an aeromedical evacuation configuration

On 21 July in Kecskemét Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó announced a HUF 400 billion investment
The Mercedes-Benz investment demonstrates that Hungary is able to accommodate itself for the green transition
The expansion and the new training programmes are major successes for Hungary
As the investment will create new workplaces and it also develops regional infrastructure, the Hungarian government vowed to support the expansion with HUF 14 billion
To equip workers with the necessary skills for the new production lines that are now being developed for the Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft.
the company also launched a government-subsidised training programme
as they help boost the country’s competitiveness
and they also contribute to Hungary’s recovery from the pandemic- and war-induced economic shocks
Hungary has the third largest production capacity of electric batteries in the world
while it ranks fifth globally in the volume of exported electric batteries
Whether the dependency on the automotive industry and German dominance of it constitute a case of healthy reliance or a potential risk for the Hungarian economy is a complex issue that we have written about here
Hungarian Defense Forces news site honvedelem.hu and local county news site baon.hu have reported that an agreement has been signed between the Hungarian Defense Forces (HDF) and the city of Kecskemét to hold the Kecskemét International Air Show in 2021
Defense Minister Tibor Benkő and the mayor of Kecskemét
Klaudia Szemereyné Pataki signed the agreement between the city and the Ministry of Defense agreeing the usage of the airbase for the airshow
Kecskemét Air Show was among the biggest in Europe
The first show in 1990 was a historically significant event
as it was the first time aircraft of Warsaw Pact and USAF met in such an environment
The aircraft in question were two USAF F-16Cs out of Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany
and two MiG-29s of the Soviet Airforce from Kiskunlacháza
The airbase is currently undergoing maintenance and modernization under NATO’s Security Investment Programme and Hungary’s Modern Cities programme
these efforts will allow Kecskemét to function as a dual purpose
Because of these modernization efforts
HuAF JAS 39 Gripens have had to operate out of Pápa Air Base for 6 months
Pápa also serves as the Main Operating Base of NATO’s Strategic Airlift Capability
The Gripens have already returned to Kecskemét
So far the airbase has had its runway resurfaced
and working areas and support infrastructure
It is also set to receive additional radio navigation equipment and new parking areas for large transport aircraft
the air show was among the few in Europe where the famous Russian Knights aerobatic demo team made an appearance
Considering the geopolitical developments of the last 6 years
it is unlikely that the Russian Knights will return to perform their routine in 2021
Just who and what will be attending the show when it returns remains to be seen

Daimler’s Kecskemét plant in Hungary has started making the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake this week
the third model to be produced at the plant since it opened in 2012
and the second to be made there exclusively following the CLA-Class
which was rolled out at the beginning of 2013
The plant also produces the B-Class (which is also made in Ratstatt
around 150,000 models were manufactured there last year and around 300,000 units have rolled off the line at the Kecskemét plant since it started production
almost the entire output at the plant last year was exported
The company has not revealed the production capacity planned for the CLA Shooting Brake for 2015 or how many vehicles it expects to export
but did state that the first models will be arriving at European dealerships in March 2015
The top five markets for the model globally are Germany
the carmaker has been transporting most vehicles built in Hungary to Germany by rail
including shipments to Bremerhaven for export
and estimates making annual CO2 savings of up to 60,000 metrics tonnes in doing so
The carmaker has also had success in exporting to the US using this link
with the CLA Class having almost doubled unit sales there last year to 27,000 vehicles
This is all helped by the contract it signed in 2013 for manufacturing in Hungary
which sees Mercedes-Benz benefitting from a low-interest export promotion loan totalling €90m ($104m)
which the company said it will use for financing further investments in the Kecskemét plant in the future
the addition of the third model at the plant has been made without any significant disruption to processes
“Thanks to the common architecture of the vehicles and especially the CLA
with which the CLA Shooting Brake is sharing many aspects
the integration of the CLA Shooting Brake was possible with relatively little effort and changes to existing processes,” confirmed a spokesperson for the carmaker
The Kecskemét plant continues to work with five logistics providers that handle the different functions: incoming supplies by train or truck; processing empty containers; sequencing parts; and shipping finished vehicles
Those providers have not changed since 2013 and comprise Duvenbeck
Investments in the Kecskemét plant to date total around a billion euros
After spending €800m on the construction of the plant
the company has continued to develop the facility
That included preparation last year for the production of the CLA Shooting Brake.

Hungary’s rearmament program is progressing well in terms of the purchase of equipment
The country has acquired brand new heavy armaments for its armoured and artillery corps from Germany
replaced its Soviet-era helicopters with French ones
initiated the process of extending its Gripen fighter fleet
is upgrading its transport capabilities with two KC-390 transport planes from Brazil
The first Hungary-bound plane took off on 8 February in Brazil
and the training of the Hungarian crews is underway
with the plane’s delivery expected this year
This latest purchase is the only one in the Hungarian rearmament programme that sources weaponry from outside traditional Western partners
It is important to examine the circumstances and geopolitical meaning of this purchase
given that it highlights the Hungarian promotion of Global South ties
and its convergence with Brazilian military and political objectives that can boost long-term cooperation between the two countries
which started after the Russian invasion of Crimea in 2014
concentrates on capabilities dependent on heavy weaponry
and anti-aircraft equipment are among the primary capabilities sought after
the capability of heavy air transportation is important
NATO countries are provided with this capability by the organization’s Heavy Airlift Wing based in Pápa
member-state armies must possess their own tools for airlifting war materiel and personnel and fast-reacting in civilian crisis situations
Both the necessities of a possible conventional war and of ongoing peacekeeping and antiterrorist missions of European countries call for strategic- and operational-level airlift capabilities
In Hungary’s case the venerable An-26 transport planes
With the retirement of the Antonovs the Hungarian Defence Forces were left without a plane carrying a cargo ramp
the core element for a military transport plane to take in heavy objects fast
New Falcon X light transports and A319 medium-size cargo planes were purchased for transportation tasks
thus the An-26 has not been fully substituted
The Hungarian tender announced for replacing the Soviet-made planes met the commercial ambitions of an emerging power
has been a vital tool of Brazilian industrial sovereignty and power projection since the 1970s
This industry suffered setbacks in the global disarmament of the 1990s
but after the start of the ‘Pink Tide’ in Brazil
With the administrations of Inácio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff the assertion of Brazilian sovereignty and power projection became an important national goal
The Armed Forces were enlarged and strengthened
One of the latest tools of Brazil is the KC-390 cargo plane
designed to operate from unprepared runways and to have a multi-role capability—to serve as a flying intensive care unit in the army
As with many other Brazilian weapons since the 1970s
they are also advertised as having a lower maintenance cost compared to
the C-130 cargo plane used widely in NATO countries
With the KC-390s Brazil obviously looks for foreign sales for several reasons
they country aims to decrease the unit cost of KC-390s so it would be cheaper for its own Air Force
to make Brazilian airplane production more sustainable; and of course to project soft power by connecting other countries to its military ecosystem
Hungary took the bold step of being among the first purchasers of the KC-390
Buying a transportation system without a serious operational history takes trust
as there can be possible drawbacks that are yet to be seen in an operational situation
When the Hungarian Defence Forces signed a contract to purchase two KC-390 planes on November 17
the KC-390 was operational only in the Brazilian Air Force and was only qualified for partial operational status
the warm ties of Hungary with Jair Bolsonaro’s conservative government at the time played a certain part in the purchase
It is clear that the plan for the deal must have been started well in advance
probably even before the election of Bolsonaro
the signing of the deal was part of the strengthening relations during the conservative administration in Brasilia
With the convergence of arising Hungarian needs
the maturing of Brazilian aircraft manufacturing and the favourable political climate
the 2020 Hungarian–Brazilian aircraft deal was a logical step
Hungary has sought to broaden cooperation with developing countries in Africa and South America since the announcement of the Opening to the South strategy in 2015
This deal provided the opportunity to acquire valuable equipment while expanding cooperation with South America
thus promoting the goals of its foreign policy strategy
The foreign policy direction of the current Brazilian presidential administration
nevertheless bears familiar characteristics: the promotion of armistice talks in the Ukraine war and the rejection of blocs that are forming in the emerging new Cold War
Even if a more antagonistic administration takes over Brazil
the country will not proceed in the direction of being a classic ‘challenger’ power to the West
or the community of countries that Hungary is part of
choosing Brazil as a supplier is a geopolitically safe choice for a Central European country
With the upcoming Hungarian mission in Chad needing airlift capabilities in rough conditions and the rising strategic demand for NATO members to have armies with full-scale capabilities
the Hungarian Defence Forces are in great need of the newly acquired planes
Hungary’s KC-390s will be the first planes of the type to be equipped with interior systems designed for the support of an intensive care unit inside the cargo hold
Hungary naturally wants the KC-390 to fulfil a scale of different roles
it can use them as a platform for various mission configurations
as a small air force can hardly afford specialized planes for every role
the logistical chain may not be that long because parts of the KC-390 are manufactured by Aero Vodochody
It is possible that with the closeness of this industrial base
the maintenance of the Brazilian plane will be easier
The deal not only extends global connectivity but also helps military ‘nearshoring,’ the shortening of supply chains
Budapest took a bold step in this logical cooperation
being the second European customer just after Portugal
the primary European partner of Brazil for historical-cultural reasons
The Hungarian example was followed by other NATO countries
and Czechia all announced their own deal after Budapest's decision
While there was little operational experience amassed (until 2024
only Brazil and Portugal operated the plane)
the technical characteristics of the aircraft are apparently looking good for European air forces
even in competition with other Western-based offers
This is a massive step for Brazil: before the KC-390
only the Tucano/Super Tucano light attack aircraft managed to get from Brazilian factories into Western arsenals in significant numbers
The first operational experiences are looking promising according to the Portuguese armed forces
which have operated the type on full operational capability since October 2023
The European orders lining up for the KC-390 are a sign that the Brazilian military export offers are significantly maturing and becoming widely valued as a non-European
non-Western source that does not carry heavy geopolitical baggage as other weaponry from countries such as China
The upcoming arrival of the duo of bulky-looking KC-390s signals the strengthening connection between Hungary and Brazil
alongside Brazil's growing global economic footprint
This connection is made possible—and even imperative—by Hungary's need to build networks across the Global South to achieve its role as a hub of connectivity between Europe and other regions of the world
while not from the inner ring of Hungary’s allies
is a valuable connection to an emerging power of the 21st century
without a serious geopolitical cost attached
With the arrival of the first cargo plane expected late this year
Hungary and Brazil’s global network will be strengthened and extended
highlighting the constant need for broadening connectivity in today’s world full of geopolitical tensions

German automotive supplier ZF is set to create over 300 new jobs in Kecskemét and Debrecen through a HUF 24 billion investment
Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade
According to a statement from the ministry
Minister Szijjártó conveyed that the German-owned ZF Chassis Modules Hungary Ltd will manufacture shock absorbers
as well as front and rear axles for electric cars produced from 2025 at the BMW plant in Debrecen and the Mercedes plant in Kecskemét
with the state providing HUF 2.4 billion in support
facilitating the creation of 313 new jobs in the two cities at the company that already employs nearly two thousand people in Hungary
He highlighted that the construction of BMW and Mercedes factories has attracted numerous German supplier investments to Hungary
emphasizing that there is fierce international competition for similar developments
He stated that this investment decision also demonstrates the elevated significance of Hungary’s stability in the current uncertain situation
as it ensures the prerequisites for economic growth
that we can guarantee all three aspects of security in Hungary,’ he communicated
Szijjártó first mentioned physical security
deeming it a significant achievement that Hungary has so far managed to stay out of the neighbouring war and that border protection remains robust
stating that the supply is not under threat
as the government views this issue not ideologically
a new nuclear power plant is under construction
and network interconnections with neighbouring countries have been established
emphasizing the need for continuous investments
as creating more jobs allows for overcoming challenges sooner
recalling that despite crises in recent years
with expectations of further substantial peaks this year
He emphasized the significant role played by the automotive industry in this success story
stating that Hungary is at the forefront of the industry’s electric transition
a rarity for a country of our size in technological revolutions
‘We are 95th in the world in terms of population
and yet we can be leaders in the technological revolution that fundamentally shapes the future of the European and global economy,’ he declared
He informed that Hungary has been among the world’s top twenty largest automotive exporters since 2018
with the sector’s production value reaching HUF 12 trillion last year
registering an 18 per cent expansion so far this year
The minister welcomed the continuous influx of German investments into Hungary and
the ongoing decisions for development made by already present companies
signifies that our goal to make the Hungarian investment incentive system the best in Europe has been successful
it means that German companies stand on the ground of common sense
making decisions prudently based on their own experiences
not on newspaper articles or political coercion,’ he articulated
‘It is important to make this distinction when evaluating ourselves and the Hungarian–German relationship
occupies a very prominent position in Hungary’s foreign relations,’ Minister Szijjártó said
philosophical and cultural issues from a conservative perspective.
