were built with limestone mined from the Kőbánya district
starting in the Middle Ages and dwindling down towards the second half of the 19th Century
carved out an underground cellar system of more than 32km
When wells and chambers in the lower parts of the mine flooded in the mid-1990s
the local government asked a small group of divers to clean up the underwater areas
The divers realised that some of the chambers could be perfect for recreational diving
One of the regular divers is local telecommunications technician

When a colleague suggested he take up scuba diving to help heal his injuries and rebuild his confidence to work on high-rise towers
he started diving off the coasts of Croatia
not knowing that he could dive below his own city just 4km from his home
“A neighbour first mentioned scuba diving beneath Budapest in 2009,” Domján recalled. “I was very eager to find out how this could at all be possible.” He made contact with Attila Bolgar, master diving instructor with local company Paprika Divers
who introduced him to the dive sites below the city

Budapest on the surface would never have been the same,” Domján said
There are four dive sites in the abandoned Kőbánya mine. Only one, called Park kút (Park well), is accessible to divers with basic Open Water Diver certification
“This is because the chambers and staircases at the Park kút site have open areas with fresh air above them
and it is safer to dive here,” Bolgar explained
The other flooded wells are enclosed and only accessible to experienced divers with advanced and special skilled certification
The water temperature remains at approximately 12C
where divers can dive 17m below the water surface (47m below street level)
it takes up to 40 minutes to explore the chambers where disused mining and factory equipment can still be seen
“You can actually see how the stones were mined,” Bolgar said

praying – and fun (Credit: Dreher Brewery Museum)According to Bolgar
the last of the limestone mining ended in 1890
winemakers and brewers were already using parts of the mine for storage or fermentation
All the chambers now used for diving were dug by brewers who needed wells beneath the mine to extract fresh water
parts of the mine were used as bomb shelters
Engines for the German Messerschmitt fighter planes were even assembled here
It is also during this time that three churches
Nowadays the non-flooded part of the cellar system is opened to the public a few times a year for underground
recreational running competitions and cycling races
Historians estimate that 1 million cubic metres of stone was excavated from the Kőbánya limestone mine, said Zita Szederkényi, head of corporate affairs at the Dreher Brewery, which is now located above large parts of the disused mine.
“Although the mine is hidden, we actually witness it every day because so many of our buildings are constructed with the limestone extracted from below us,” she said. “The exact size of the mine is not fully known. The cellar system lies not only beneath the brewery as is generally believed, but extends to much larger parts below the Kőbánya district.”
After a dive in one of the corridors of the old brewery, Domján recounted that he could see a rock that was dug out by miners more than a century ago but was never cut into building bricks. “It’s a real reminder of what happened down here and how large parts of Budapest were built,” he said.
I am so privileged. During the day, I can see all of Budapest’s impressive buildings from above. In the evening, I can experience where they were born,” Domján said.

we are ready to explore Budapest's new and most authentic open-air food hall even further
a small courtyard filled with wooden stalls
Enter the ornate gate and browse the rich selection of uniform wooden huts
Sitting and nibbling on delicacies in the Eastwin Square court is quite an experience
not only because of the authentic atmosphere but also because it is a food court in the neatest sense
with inviting aromas as several skewers prepared by the minute at the grills
And the smell of the spicy meat stew is tempting and captivating
whether it’s a sweltering day or a mild summer evening
We start our journey in the western part of Kőbánya
we visit its more famous parks and promenades
but we will deal with it in more detail in another article because it needs a separate discussion
It can be approached from so many directions that we cannot even list it now
The imposing building of Szent László Grammar School is already striking
but the church is a real Lechner masterpiece
the Zsolnay tiles on the roof shine in the sun
The statue of the designer also stands on a stepped platform - very tasteful workmanship
And the two together give a good atmosphere to start our tour
The artist with his masterpiece in the background: Ödön Lechner and the church in Kőbánya (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
We will make a small detour before to the beautifully renovated building of the National Self-Government of the Polish Minority on Állomás Street
The other end of the Állomás Street opens into the Kőbánya-Alsó Railway Station
the whole Mázsa Square and Liget Square could use a little renovation
The 1956 monument is already a worthy memorial on the corner of the square
here the inscription I Love Kőbánya is not carved out of plastic
it is an imaginative solution after many similar selfie-compatible town name installations
The solution that is different from the usual is also attractive (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
In addition to the colourful panel houses here
the brownish panels on the other side of the road have a gloomy atmosphere
A hint of shade change can make a big difference..
and we can already find two monuments about the Hungarians opposite the church
The wooden double cross monument fits tastefully among the trees
but the old monument of carved limestone would be worth restoring
the runic writing is barely readable anymore
it may have been more beautiful in its snow-white state
It also seems rather strange that people are bustling next to it in the small producer market
without even knowing what they are passing by
even though we brought a bag to collect the recyclables
we are glad we do not have to carry or especially find waste
The entrance to the cellar system in Kőbánya opens here
an exciting underground world unfolds before us from the past

Sculptures of composers welcome us in the form of works much larger than reality

there is more rubbish here and the park is more neglected than Rottenbiller Park
but this is also because it is surrounded almost entirely by a thick concrete wall
which does not give the impression of a friendly place
Beyond the east side of the concrete wall is the Havas Villa
reminiscent of the land of the former wealthy lords in its classicist style
Csajkovszkij Park was once the garden of the Villa
The concrete wall in front of the Villa is not the best solution (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
The accessible part of the cellar system ends at the Villa
It is also worth mentioning that the Fire Museum is located at Csajkovszkij Park
the building is in a very dilapidated condition
we hope for a better future for the museum because its exhibition is exciting
Its surface buildings also bear witness to the classicist past
in addition to the multitude of ruined factory buildings
the earlier golden age of Kőbánya inevitably appears
probably with the demolished remains of an old factory building
The old factory buildings radiate an ancient atmosphere (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
the famous Guard Tower (Csősztorony) is just a few steps away
It also returns in the coat of arms of Kőbánya
so the tower was built to protect it against thieves in the 19th century
We would not even think how high we are suddenly: peeking out between the houses
Returning to the Guard Tower: it was built in 1844 and contains several style features
so it can be mentioned as one of the beautiful examples of Hungarian Romance
but the local council has long been planning to relocate its local history collection here
especially if visitors could go up to the tower
The grapes were no longer replanted in Kőbánya after the phylloxera destruction in 1875
It is interesting that in the famous restaurant of Kőbánya
you can also see a beautiful painting of the tower
The Guard Tower has changed almost nothing over time (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
The Guard Tower is in the corner of Óhegy Park
This is the largest public park in Kőbánya after Népliget
What was really gratifying to us was that immaculate cleanliness greeted us
runners and small children took turns passing by us
We had similar experiences before elsewhere
all of which means the city is evolving and the infamous neighbourhoods are being replaced by areas that are becoming famous.
The Óhegy Park surprised us with its cleanliness (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
we also wanted to discover the Gergely Park in Újhegy
This is obviously an easier way to preserve
but how can a park of this size be fenced off between the panel houses
We can also hope that some kind of community function will be given to the area
we reach the Bottomless Lake in Kőbánya: the Bányató Park
their past is similar: the image of today developed from the infiltrating
accumulating water of an abandoned mine cavity
it does not seem that we are not in Buda (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
We really missed any kind of water surface from Kőbánya
A very vivid monument was erected to the brick workers on the shore
We could not even count how many brick factories operated in the area long ago
One brick from every factory in Kőbánya is built into the wall
with the characteristic inscription of the factory on them (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
On the other side of the lake is a huge monument of steel cable erected in the previous system
which exceptionally does not spoil the overall picture
the last stop on our trip to Kőbánya is Sportliget
There is really terrain here for all kinds of sports: a basketball court
It was a special pleasure for us to have a cableway and two metal
Although the proximity of high-voltage transmission lines worsens the comfort zone
and the same can be said in the rest of Kőbánya
The wires in the background (Photo: Dávid Palotás/pestbuda.hu)
as beyond the Sportliget stretches the 18th District
We can say about the 10th District that with its former legacy
the district is finally starting to do something
and the amount of garbage was much less than it was expected in advance
Several outer districts of Pest could envy the cleanliness of the Óhegy Park
although Kőbánya is much worse in terms of conditions
We can think here of the many dilapidated factory buildings
or even the many power lines that go everywhere
It is definitely commendable that we have been able to see several new public works of art
We recommend visiting the parks of the district
even along the route detailed in the article
because sometimes it is worth putting down our prejudices

Dreher Breweries is set to undergo a complete transformation
The first phase of this extensive investment
totalling approximately 100 billion forints and requiring 30 billion in financing until 2025
will see the creation of a new energy centre and the replacement of fermentation and conditioning tanks
Subsequent phases will involve expanding warehouse capacity and renewing the brewing house
The 170-year-old Kőbánya brewery is replacing outdated technology in a manner that promotes sustainability goals
Next year marks the 170th anniversary of Dreher Breweries
which will embark on its largest-ever investment programme
Such a massive development in the history of Hungarian brewing has never been seen before
Approximately 30 per cent of the required funds
have already been secured by the parent company
the comprehensive infrastructural refurbishment of the historic Kőbánya brewery enhances efficiency
contributes to sustainability goals by reducing energy and water consumption and carbon dioxide emissions through modernized equipment and technology
The first phase of the ten-year master plan
begins with the construction of the new energy centre in January
followed by the replacement of fermentation and conditioning tanks
The increase in returns in recent years laid the foundation for Asahi’s approval of this investment
The upgrade involves replacing outdated technology while minimizing environmental impact
can confidently look beyond its founding to its bicentennial and beyond
Further steps in the master plan include increasing warehouse capacity and renewing the brewing house
Gábor Békefi also emphasized that during the execution of the newly announced investment
they will pay special attention to the ‘From Dreher to Dreher’ heritage-building philosophy
they aim to preserve Hungarian brewing traditions
which contributes nearly 422 million litres of beer annually to Hungarian beer consumption
The company employs nearly 600 people and indirectly supports the livelihoods of more than 11,000 families in the fields of hospitality
86 per cent of Dreher’s suppliers are Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises
The company annually contributes more than 17 billion forints to the state budget in excise tax
With all signs pointing to a strong relationship between Dreher and its parent company
the brewery is poised to build on its success
Asahi entered the life of the Kőbánya brewery in 2017 after AB InBev acquired SABMiller
leading to a change in ownership and a management change in the Hungarian brewery
The new management focused on the heritage-building philosophy
just like before the nationalization in 1948
concentrates on premiumization and the combination of tradition and modernity in operations
the company has had to bring its corporate strategy closer to consumer needs to improve profitability
Favourable investment decisions are essential within a brewing conglomerate
the previously mentioned increase in can-filling capacity allowed Dreher not only to reduce its need for imports but also to demonstrate its capabilities as an exporter within the corporate group

The Budapest Times
As this internationally renowned film starring James Stewart and Kim Novak dates to 1958
I am sure that over such a significant time span I am not the first to say this
When overcome by my perhaps dizzily extravagant claim
I have to concede that this church and “Vertigo” are unlikely to have little else in common
in which two victims fall to their doom from the tower of the Mission San Juan Bautista in California
leaving the hapless private detective John Scottie Ferguson
Scottie finally overcomes his fear of heights
at the last moment but it is all too late as he has unwittingly failed in his duty to prevent both deaths from happening
he stands alone in a state of shock whilst looking downwards
with both these mishaps on his conscience despite his general innocence throughout
we are talking about the Budapesti Mindenkor Segítő Szűz Mária Templom
which can be further translated as The Church of the Virgin Mary of Budapest at All Times
it would hopefully do just as well to get away with calling this quaint place of worship the “Polish Catholic Church”
it is found not too far from the city centre and clearly serves the Kőbánya district’s Polish community
is set in peaceful surroundings within the green and leafy Kőbánya Alsó suburb
This general area has more of a graceful village atmosphere rather than a suburb
Over the turn of the 19th-20th century and for some time onwards
the rapid development of the Hungarian capital brought an influx of Polish immigrants
brickwork and general labouring within the predominantly working-class Kőbánya area
In 1914 Polish priest Wincenty Danek was granted permission to build an independent Roman Catholic church but all plans were suspended due to World War I
with support from Poland itself and the United States
an estimable local architect who also had a hand in designing the Gellért Hotel and other eclectic sites throughout the city
and when World War II broke out this shrine assuringly played its part for Polish refugees
In 1952 communist rule took over the premises from the Poles but it still managed to function relatively well as a church
remained reasonably intact up until the change of regime in 1989
The premises were then handed back to the Polish community and have remained a strong part of their lives and culture since
In 1993 a decree placed the church under monument protection and it has been wonderfully cared for and meticulously restored
just off from Kőbánya Alsó train station and main road trams 28 and 37 from Blaha Lujza tér
a 15-minute walk in a southerly direction passes the lively
family-friendly Tűzoltó Múzeum/Fire Brigade Museum on Martinovics tér
where the small but delightful church stands out
Various tributes relating to Polish and Hungarian relations can be seen by the main entrance
There is a Katyn plaque in memory of the mass execution of Polish military officers by the Soviet Union during World War II
as well as a fitting tribute to Pope John Paul II
alongside other 20th-century events and issues
It’s clear that Polish and Hungarian relations continue to be very strong
especially on the political stage with the Visegrád Four and the recent confrontations between both and the European Union
Tourist information about the Pest suburbs still remains generally thin
and this and the other Kőbánya neighbourhoods remain off the main trails
if you are fond of “Vertigo” a visit there is a real bonus
But it is attractive in its own right too: this graceful place makes a great escape from the city and it stands opposite a reposeful
If interested in vintage architecture as well as making new-found Polish friends
head there for an illuminating and contrasting time out
Maybe a series on them would make interesting reading

A section of Vaspálya Street in Kőbánya is named after Gedeon Richter
paying tribute to the memory of the pharmacist and factory founder born in 1872
The street and the monument erected on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Gedeon Richter were inaugurated by Róbert Antal D
the chairman of the board of Gedeon Richter Plc.
who is considered the founder of the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry
after obtaining his degree and studying in the West
the pharmacist bought the Sas pharmacy in Budapest
where he started producing and distributing organo therapeutic drugs
He established one of the first Hungarian pharmaceutical factories in Kőbánya in 1907
which was already considered one of the leading international suppliers in the 1920s and 30s
Gedeon Richter Pharmaceuticals is now the most significant innovation base in the Central and Eastern European region
thanks to its commercial network covering five continents
its products are available from China to Latin America
The intellectual legacy of the founder - faith in work
innovation and the power of the Hungarian spirit - still defines Richter's operations
On the 150th anniversary of the birth of the researcher
a street was named after Gedeon Richter in the section of Vaspálya Street between Kőér Street and Noszlopy Street
next to the site of the pharmaceutical factory still operating in Kőbánya
Monument in the street named after Gedeon Richter
Kovács emphasised in his celebratory speech: "Gedeon Richter did not have a public memorial until now
there has been a sign on the house from which the Arrowmen took Gedeon Richter during the persecution of Jews
This memorial plaque does not allow the insult to the victims to be washed away
And the memorial site that has just been inaugurated will not allow us to forget the innovator
the creator of the domestic pharmaceutical industry
who - although he could have - did not flee the country
Gedeon Richter's name does not simply mean the name of the company
but the factory serving the entire country
as well as the worldwide network of subsidiaries
It embodies the spirit that pervades the company's operations to this day
the pursuit of continuous innovation or ethical
sustainable operation," emphasised Erik Bogsch
Handing over the monument (Photo: Gedeon Richter Plc.)
said: "Our founder was outstanding not only as a pharmacist but also as a businessman
The value system he consistently represented proved to be timeless
and the path he chose proved to be successful
[…] Our goal is to carry on this legacy through our innovative activities and our ability to continuously renew ourselves
as well as to ensure the stable development typical of the company in the future with more and more successes.”
the company is erecting a commemorative plaque in memory of its founder at its locations in Dorog and Debrecen as well

The Kőbánya Water Reserve has been supplying Budapest with drinking water for nearly 150 years now
Its building – a genius work of engineering
It looks for all the world like an underground cathedral with arches
tall columns and many-hued mosaic-like bricks on the walls that are further colourised by the water
Visiting the water reserve is a special experience
and since it is only drained and opened to the public once a year
Admission on Saturday is free and there's no need to register – only smaller groups will be allowed inside at any one time
How to get there: From Örs Vezér tere or Kőbánya-Kispest
or bus 95 from the Puskás Ferenc Stadion to Kápolna tér
can be reached by passing through the tram tracks on Kőbányai Road
because vehicles can come from both directions
but after that we end up in a completely different world
Inscriptions affixed to the fence already announce that the area is under the management of the Opera
but this is also indicated by the extremely imaginative bicycle storage facilities
which practically repeat the logo of the institution with their circular shape
and some even fit the image with their red colour
The main facade of the Eiffel Art Studios (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
As we learned from the Chief Architect of the Opera
when the Northern Locomotive Workshop closed in 2009
there were many more buildings on the site
most of them were demolished according to the new concept
the large hall dominates the terrain: it stretches for two hundred meters
the middle one is slightly longer than the others
but the two ships running right next to it
The five-ship structure can be seen on the model of the Eiffel Art Studios (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
built in 1886 to repair locomotives and other railway vehicles
The riveted steel frame structure was designed by János Feketeházy
whose engineering talent is also praised by the Keleti Railway Station and the Liberty Bridge
and care was taken during the renovation to ensure that the one hundred and thirty years old frame was not damaged
Static tests have shown that the structure is still perfectly safe
The structure of the building is given by a riveted steel frame (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
largely bound the hands of designers during the transformation
the Opera commissioned the Public Building Design Office (Középülettervező Iroda - KÖZTI) - headed by the recently deceased Miklós Marosi - to prepare plans for the reconstruction
the concept was to create a special workshop: while most operas in the world only use such buildings for backstage and costumes
this one in Budapest was also intended for holding performances
which is the core of the area that can be visited by the public (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
The front third of the building can be visited by the public
In the middle of this is a huge communal space
in which a MÁV 327 locomotive and an adjoining dining car refer to the earlier life of the hall
It can comfortably accommodate museum vehicles - especially the height of the hall is breathtaking
which has also allowed a hanging corridor to be stretched across the hall
from which the auditorium entrance of the lecture halls opens: on the left is the Miklós Bánffy lecture hall
and on the right is the sound control named after Ferenc Fricsay
visitors can see exhibitions related to acting and the history of the building
the latter theme being presented in the material of the Museum of Transport
Part of the hanging corridor (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
Exhibitions can be seen in the galleries (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
The situation of KÖZTI was aggravated by the fact that the monument protection authority did not allow the elevation of the building
so the construction of a corded attic could not be considered
so the orchestral trench was lowered under the surface
but its floor could even be raised to the ground floor with a hydraulic jack
This is practical for pieces in which the band does not participate
so their seats can also be filled with auditorium chairs
A total of three lecture halls have been set up
each of which can accommodate four hundred people
which can be expanded by an additional two hundred people thanks to the aforementioned technical prowess
The orchestra trench in the Miklós Bánffy hall (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
which is no longer accessible to the public
warehouses and workshops line up one behind the other
but a huge concrete platform was built in the middle of the building
taking advantage of the extraordinary internal height
The top of this - which corresponds to the second level - is arranged for the rest and recharge of about one hundred and sixty people working here: in the middle there is a conservatory with several seats and tables
The conservatory on the first floor (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
the design also paid attention to the workers
which can be seen in the largest workshop halls: underfloor heating was built
and the pavement was provided with a comfortable wooden covering
where the nature of the work often means kneeling
But the building in general can be said to have very modern
state-of-the-art fire doors and gates separating the rooms
All this was solved in such a way that it does not contrast with the sight of the 19th century frame structure
Safety and comfort were also taken into account in the workshop halls (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
two smaller buildings have already been renovated: one with offices and the other with a costume store
the so-called solid storage system used in libraries has been introduced: the huge
there is no transport corridor between all the cabinets
the Opera boasts a huge collection of costumes
The available space in the costume warehouse was fully utilized (photo: Péter Bodó / pestbuda.hu)
Behind the great hall is also a smaller building awaiting renovation
which is planned to house a training centre for singers
The landscaping has not been completed yet
it is still underway in the area to the right of the Great Hall
this does not hinder the day-to-day operation of the Art Studios or traffic
as this miracle is only one tram stop away from Hungária Boulevard
Surrounded by large trees and old industrial buildings
this shaded square hides in relaxed fashion at the back of the complex
Even walking in this direction prepares you for laid-back recreation

Nagyvárad Square and Lehel Square are still under renovation
therefore the trains will not stop at these stations
the area around the closed stations can be reached by replacement bus and other routes
the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) announced on its website

Adapting to the change in the traffic schedule of the M3 metro line
the surface transport connected to the metro will also change
BKK held a social consultation on the subject
the results of which can be found on the company's website
The numbering and route of several routes will also change in South Pest
Óbuda and the area within the Hungária Ring Road
The renovation of the M3 subway began in the fall of 2017
During the five-and-a-half-year reconstruction
the metro line's infrastructure was completely renewed: among other things
It is also reported that thanks to the renovation
all stations and stops have received a new exterior and interior
and great emphasis has also been placed on accessibility
regular and inclined-track elevators were installed so that people with limited mobility can also use the metro
and tactile signals help the movement of people with limited vision

which is the country's busiest railway line
is expected to be completed in two months with the opening of the Nagyvárad Square and Lehel Square stations
the trains run on the entire line every day

• The Diesel Hall will house the largest contiguous exhibition space in the new Transport Museum, with 120 unique rail, road and public-transport vehicles and thousands of other artefacts. Part of the venue housed a temporary exhibition last summer
so visitors could already experience the huge size and special atmosphere – this exhibition is set to reopen this summer
• The new Transport Museum will have a permanent exhibition twice as large as before
with curated collection development and restoration work taking place on an ongoing basis
• The Diesel Hall will be expanded as a part of the contemporary complex with a glass façade
which can also be seen in the visual plans
in which the exhibition space will continue
The entrance to the museum will be on the corner of Kőbányai út and Könyves Kálmán körút
bus 9 and the Transport Museum train station yet to be built
• The listed main building overlooking Kőbányai út and the entire brick façade will be renovated
The museum's internationally significant archive
library and research units will be housed here
along with modern restoration workshops specialising in technical and transport vehicles
A certain number of intrepid diners has long ventured into the deepest reaches of the Chinese Quarter in Kőbánya
the forbidden city of the Monori Center on Jegenye utca
Spicy Fish has shone like a beacon in the Chinese Quarter
the one dining destination you could rely on for fine
and the perfection introduction to a whole gamut of gastronomy
For those out of their comfort zone in Kőbánya
the new Spicy Fish outlet just opened on Corvin sétány allows them to discover real Chinese cuisine near a busy crossing point in Pest
Spicy Fish is perhaps the first Chinese restaurant in the city centre that can double up as a place for a convivial first date
authentic Chinese eateries exist in Budapest
the interior and the location don’t match the quality of fare on offer
even a tiny bit industrial – think Naples pizza parlour – and the kind of place you could sit and eat in comfort with your grandmother
The blossoming pink cherry tree in the corner
contrasting with the simple contemporary grey interior
letting you know that this is an Asian restaurant without interfering with your sense of aesthetics
Another nice surprise is the menu – although photos rarely raise your hopes
Each name is also rendered correctly and comprehensively in Hungarian
so if you don't know in advance what to order
expect to spend an enjoyable 15 minutes browsing it
especially since Spicy Fish has partnered with next door’s Sakura Ramen
in addition to suggestions for Chinese dishes
will be a list of 12 types Japanese ramen and even Korean bibimbap
And while it is usually a bad omen to feature the cuisines of multiple countries on one menu
here the kitchen takes the individual ground rules seriously enough to make this an exception
What’s most attractive is that you are guided through Chinese cuisine gently yet intelligently
Someone only slightly familiar with the genre will feel comfortable
while those happier in the deep end will have little reason to complain
Appetisers include plenty of familiar dishes: Japanese gyoza (1,090 HUF for six pieces) come in chicken or pork versions
while various steamed or fried Chinese favourites include bao buns (890 HUF for three pieces) and spring rolls (850 HUF)
Lesser-known summer rolls (1,090 HUF for three pieces)
you can start with dishes easy for any European to assimilate
steam into a Chinese lecsó tomato-and-pepper stew
The namesake spicy fish (4,980 HUF) is a Sichuan speciality whose name is used by as many restaurants in the province as goulash on Hungary’s Great Plain
A single serving of river fish and bean sprouts comes in a huge bowl of simmering oil
you are offered a slotted ladle specifically for the purpose of hooking out pieces of soft fish meat
beansprouts and peppers into your smaller bowl
so 50 of the wildest Sichuan peppers won’t be floating in your soup
meaning the equally authentic experience of searching for the bones
because it’s a real speciality and made for several helpings
you’ll find the essence of the original Monori Center establishment in the mao xue wang (4,280 HUF) of duck blood
or in the marinated sliced offal in chili sauce (1,980 HUF)
Those who are not up for innards can ask for the ‘world-famous’ Chinese duck from Beijing (whole
And those more used to Chinese fast-food eateries will also feel at home – the menu is full of dishes also served there
pineapple-fried beef strips (3,580 HUF) evoke the instant meals so popular here after the end of Communism
but that’s where all comparisons stop: juicy meat
abundant vegetables and pineapple fill half a cone
a world away from whatever would have been boiled in a bag 25 years ago
is what they were trying to copy way back when
Toasted cauliflower served in a mini wok (2,580 HUF) is a hot
while the udon-like Wenzhou noodles (1,990 HUF) are vegetables with minced meat in soy sauce
which even the choosiest of children would devour
anyone who is in any way interested in Asian cuisine

Pest was not a big city according to today's concepts
The built-up area of the city - excluding Kőbánya - barely extended beyond today's Outer Ring Road
the line of which was designated at the time of the city regulation
There were a total of 5,699 buildings in the entire city
a total of 277 buildings were erected in 1872
and a total of 6,873 rooms were created in 1872
Pest had a total of 83,000 residential rooms at that time
in 1872 most new rooms were built in Terézváros and the fewest in Kőbánya
The poorer families usually lived in one room
so the number of rooms was actually more important than the number of new apartments
although 2987 kitchens were built for the above 6873 rooms
Pest residential building with many apartments and rooms opening onto the courtyard at 8 Mária Valéria Street in the 1890s (Photo: FSZEK Budapest Collection)
Statistician József Kőrösi describes this in a very vivid way in his work entitled Constructions in Pest in 1872 [Az 1872
"This large-scale proliferation of rooms is as surprising as it is a welcome phenomenon
This testifies either to the continuous growth of the city or to the more comfortable and healthier living conditions of the population
Those who know the local conditions will hardly be willing to attribute a high probability to the latter possibility
everyday experience leads me to admit that
our living conditions are becoming more unbearable year by year
and the rent is constantly becoming more expensive."
Although all city leaders considered it to be avoided
basement apartments were still built at that time
a total of 530 rooms were built as basement apartments
the number and proportion of which not only decreased but also increased
In the case of the street- and courtyard-facing rooms
3,119 rooms were built facing the courtyard
Pest was burning with a construction fever in the last third of the 19th century
not only residential buildings but also other buildings
were built one after the other (Photo: FSZEK Budapest Collection)
30 per cent of the investments fell on Terézváros
24 per cent on Józsefváros and 9 per cent on Ferencváros
The most expensive buildings were built in Lipótváros and the cheapest in Ferencváros
not only residential buildings but important public institutions were also built
according to the cited study by József Kőrösi
these were the most important constructions
Miklósy's temporary theatre on István Square; 10
the Veterans home built on Külső-Soroksári Road; 11
mortuary and treatment buildings built along Üllői Road; 12
the management palace of the Alföld-Fiume railway under construction on the upper embankment lots; 16
the palace of the Eastern Railway under construction in Hold Street; 17
the united capital savings bank at the corner of Dorottya Wurm and Mária Valéria Streets; 18
the ornate four-story palaces of the first savings bank in Hungary
built on the "2 pistols" lot on Széna Square; 19
the one-story building of the Kőbánya Savings Bank in Kőbánya; 20
Samu Batizfalvi's medical institution on the City Park Alley; 21
Hungarian royal tobacco exchange office building on Rigó Street in Józsefváros; 22
Hungarian royal military equipment warehouse on the corner of Víg and József Streets
company constructions meant not only offices
but apartments were also created in the palaces under construction
for the leading officials of the given company
but it was also not uncommon for these buildings to have rental apartments as well
The construction costs in 1872 (this includes shops
outbuildings and everything else) amounted to 14,128,320 HUF
which is almost three times the construction cost of the Margit Bridge
equivalent to 56.3 billion HUF at today's prices
13,151,410 HUF was spent on residential buildings
the remaining amount of less than 1 million HUF went to workshops and other non-residential buildings
since the wages and the price of building materials were quite different then
there were huge construction material farms north of Margit Bridge (Photo: FSZEK Budapest Collection)
construction costs rose in Pest at that time
What does this mean for wages and building materials
the price of "hard base stone" rose from 28 to 30 HUF
and the price of 1,000 bricks rose from 30 to 34 HUF
while the price of other building materials did not change significantly
but this did not increase compared to 1871
The daily wages of masons rose from 2 forints 20 krajcár to 2 forints 30 krajcár
and the wages of day labourers also increased by 10 krajcár
(One forint with the Austrian value of 1872 is worth 3,986 forints today
a day labourer received barely 4,000 forints at today's prices.)

With record passenger numbers of 17 million expected in 2020, despite a higher frequency of bus services, Budapest Airport still needs a swift
Plans are now in place for an express rail link of 22 kilometres
the southern terminus of the M3 metro line
about the same distance again south-east of the Hungarian capital
public transport from Budapest Airport will be limited to the 100E bus direct to the city centre and the 200E stopping service to the southern end of the M3 metro route
this runs further into town at Nagyvárad tér due to construction work on the line – any suggestion of extending the network all the way to the airport is now null and void

hogyan működött eddig a menekültek ellátása Budapesten.)
de a budapesti kormányhivatal munkatársai kétszer is udvariasan távozásra szólítottak fel minket
hogy a sajtónak kedden biztosítanak bejárási lehetőséget
addig csak a közmédia dolgozhat a helyszínen
Miközben kikísértek minket a tranzitváróból
körülbelül 50-60 fős menekült csoport a csarnokhoz
egy tolmács tájékoztatta őket a legfontosabb tudnivalókról: hogyan juthatnak el a reptérre
A délelőtt folyamán egymás után érkeztek a menekülteket szállító buszok
dél körül egyszerre három parkolt a csarnok hátsó bejáratánál
Körülbelül ötvenen érkeztek a Bécsbe tartó vonattal
így a rendőrök jobb híján minket kértek meg
Végül a menekültek többsége visszaszállt a bécsi vonatra
csak 10-15-en ültek a csarnokhoz tartó buszon
Március 20-ig 312 ezer ukrajnai menekült érkezett Magyarországra, csak vasárnap 1871 ember jött Budapestre. A kormány becslései szerint akár 900 ezer menekült érkezhet Magyarországra
train services at Budapest’s Nyugati railway station were severely disrupted due to a switch failure caused by a shunting train
The malfunction led to restrictions imposed by MÁV
affecting several suburban and intercity routes
Passengers experienced extended travel times and service reductions on key lines
with alternative public transport options temporarily accepting train tickets
The malfunction significantly impacted trains operating between Nyugati railway station and Kőbánya-Kispest, leading to prolonged journey times and altered routes. As a temporary solution, MÁV announced that train tickets would be valid on alternative Budapest public transport lines
Several services faced cancellations or modifications:
MÁV announced that the switch failure at Nyugati railway station had been repaired
and normal service was expected to resume gradually on the Cegléd and Lajosmizse lines
train tickets remained valid on affected BKK routes until 10:30 AM to accommodate passengers still experiencing disruptions
passengers are advised to check for real-time updates and allow extra travel time when using affected routes

MÁV (Hungarian State Railways) successfully started its 50-station program which aims to renovate fifty major train stations which are used the most in Hungary
Profitline reported that MÁV has stated that the renovation project of fifty stations would start this year both in Budapest and in the countryside
renovation works which made stations more modern and comfortable successfully ended at Keleti Railway Station Budapest
the most important location was the capital’s Keleti Railway Station
Renovation projects made the station more comfortable and modern
allowing passengers to enter a station with many facilities and trains to run more efficiently
renovation works need to be done as soon as possible
The station serves approximately 1.5 million passengers every year
the renovation works start at the beginning of 2020
approximately 3.1 million passengers wait for trains every year
The project aims to renovate this station by the first quarter of 2020
the renovation of Déli Railway Station is also going to start at the beginning of the year by replacing the platforms
The three major railway stations of Budapest (Keleti
Déli) also get the most modern LED screen system to inform passengers about arrivals and departures
Debrecen and Szolnok will also get the same facilities
The project would also like to include parking lots next to many stations (e.g
Veresegyháza) to make the situation of arriving cars at the stations more comfortable
The complex renovation project of MÁV is going to continue and will end in 2023
Police busted a serious shipment of marijuana in District X on Mádi Street after they learned that 30-year-old Sándor D
was taking a larger amount of drugs to his accomplice
The value of the seized drug exceeds HUF 87 million (~EUR 244,000)
According to police.hu
35 kilograms of marijuana were found in the back seat and the trunk of the car of Sándor D
The police also searched the two men’s apartments
was interrogated as a suspect for a well-founded suspicion of committing a drug trafficking crime
he was detained and a request was made for his arrest
was interrogated as a suspect in a drug possession offense
The Contrast is in the SOPs in Goan Drug Paradise
The Goan Drug Model is the best in the world.dindooohindoo
Nigerian,Russian,Georgian and Israeli Drug Lord have licensed beaches
where NO INDIAN can ENTER and they sell drugs to THEIR OWN on credit or barter (which is sex or courier services). The Pandoo Police does NOT ENTER these no entry zones
in Pattaya – so there is not too much innovation here
seized by the Goan Pandoo Police – which stocks them in the ANC (Anti-Narcotics Cell) Godowns. Now the beauty is that it is under the ORDER OF THE COURT (whose Judges know nothing about drugs)– but in the possession of the PANDOO as the Court has no facility or skill to stock the drugs
Then the Goan Pandoo Police – STEALS the DRUGS from the ANC Godowns – and sells it back
to the same Drug Dealers. The Goan Courts have NO CLUE as they are high on Fenee.Y do the Russians and Israelis do this
Simple – for the Impotent Goan Pandoo Police to show PERFORMANCE and for the corrupt Goan Media to show balance in reportage (as they are on the mafia payroll)
The Drug Dealers get the drugs back at low rates, and they save on the cost of storage, and also hafta to police,as they do STRATEGIC PROCUREMENT,from the Police. In another twist, the Dealers get drugs of a higher grade and quality, than WHAT THEY ALLOWED TO BE SEIZED,by the Pandoo Police. So the Dealers save on the procurement costs from the SILENT FORESTS or for imported Cocaine
The Pandoos DO NO SURPRISE CHECKS OF THE DRUGS STOCKS.For several years
there was no meeting of the DDC – Drugs Destruction Committee in Goa – and so
that gives the Police an EXCUSE TO STEAL MORE
and REPLACE the same, with impure drugs – claiming natural contamination by rain and heat ,or that rats ate it
The longer the time for stock checks and DDC,the more the opportunity to steal, replace and barter the drugs
The Pandoo Police and Pandoo Courts have NO CLUE
held in custody,by type, ageing, quality, condition, location and the persons w.r.t whom
Even the Pandoos of the Goa Police who do the physical verification of drugs
have no technical or forensic skills to verify the drugs ageing, quality and exact quantity
Even when DDC meets and destroys drugs there is no forensic test and tapes of the destroyed material
go back to the cartels – and what is burnt is chalk and junk drugs
This ensures performance of the Pandoo Police, and an INDUCED fear among dealers and users,to obey the diktats of the drug mafia – to whom beach security,is OUTSOURCED,by the Goan Pandoo Police
Then we come to the Goan Media which is known for extortion like Herald Goa from Casino Pride
timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/FIR…cleshow/53470453.cms
The Drug Dealers use their contacts in legit outfits (where drugs are used),id.est.,resorts to place adverts,in the media. When that fails, they contact the media agencies to bribe media. And when that fails, they use the Pandoo Police to pay off the media
Till a few years ago,the Goan Chor Media used to carry Matka adverts and Matka Tips in the Newspapers
Then we have to wash the cash. The Indians are secure – but the Russians and others have to find other ways. Each Drug Lord has his own ways.Nigerians use Couriers.Russians use PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT in GOA.Israelis do IMPORT AND EXPORT.All under the nose of the Goa State and Indian Customs
And then after a few years, use the Property Management company to do another LAND ACQUISITION
This is called the Property Management Business
which the NCB has not been able to crack. This is the land when the 400 year old dead body of a EU national is kept alive as a Living God.What to do with these clowns
w/o the connivance of the Netas,Church AND THE 1ST LAYER OF THE GOAN JUDICIARY
The Police are Thieves and Sons of Harlots – that we all know
metro line M3 will be replaced by buses between Nagyvárad tér and Kőbánya-Kispest on 6-7 August 2016 (Saturday-Sunday)
Metro cars will be operating between Újpest-Központ and Nagyvárad tér
the replacement bus M3 to Nagyvárad tér M will run on the route section Kőbánya-Kispest M–Déli bejáró út–Vak Bottyán utca–Lehel utca–Üllői út–Könyves Kálmán körút–Albert Flórián út–Vágóhíd utca–Üllői út–Nagyvárad tér M and will serve the following stops:
the terminus boarding point of bus line 148 at Kőbánya-Kispest M will be relocated to the boarding point of bus line 193E
Modified departures of the last scheduled lines running between Nagyvárad tér and Kőbánya-Kispest connected to the last scheduled metro are the following:
Regular metro service will be available between Újpest-Központ and Nagyvárad tér
The required involuntary transfers during the replacement period are not considered to be trip interruptions
therefore when transferring between replacement buses and the metro
already validated single tickets (also of those from a block of 10 tickets) and transfer tickets are valid for onward travel
The other end of single tickets (the end without a number grid) needs to be stamped or punched with the validating machines
In the case of older-type single tickets from a stapled block
the individual tickets need to be torn out to do this
Older-type transfer tickets have number grids at both ends
therefore no revalidation is needed at the other end in the case of this ticket type
as the second grid has already been validated or will be punched/stamped in the course of a regular transfer
When using short section metro tickets for up to 3 stops
please consider the following when transferring between metro line M3 and the replacement bus:
section ticket validity must be calculated from the trip’s starting point
so the 3 stops need to be counted from the original stop (without replacement) where the passenger boarded
For journeys started on the replacement bus where the point of boarding cannot be determined
so the section ticket is valid for up to 2 stops calculated from the transfer point (the second validation on metro line M3) which is Corvin-negyed metro station
Nyugati Railway Station will temporarily close from June 22 to July 5 midnight
There will be maintenance and refurbishment works on tracks
the passenger platforms and station buildings which have become urgent
but it isn’t possible the do it by train traffic – MAV (Hungarian railway company) wrote
MAV-START introduces a temporarily timetable in order to enable the passengers to easily reach their destinations in Budapest
Several trains will be redirected to other stations in Budapest by the railway company
which are operating on the Budapest-Debrecen-Nyiregyhaza and Budapest-Miskolc-Nyiregyhaza lines
and the Zahony IC trains are operating until the Zuglo stop
The Budapest-Nyugati-Zahony trains depart from Kobanya-Kispest and also arrive there
The timetables of Budapest-Nyugati-Vac-Szob and Budapest-Nyugati-Cegled-Szolnok trains will be merged: the zone trains will operate on the Szob-Vac-Rakospalota-Ujpest-Zuglo-Cegled line
the local trains will operate on Vac-Rakosrendezo-Zuglo-Monor line
There will be trains which go from the Dunkanyar until Rakospalota-Ujpest
The Budapest-Nyugati-Veresegyhaz-Vac trains’ temporarily terminus will be the Rakosplaota-Ujpest station
The Kobanya-Kispest-Szekesfehervar G43 trains only operate between Kelenfold and Gardony
The S36 trains will be operating between Kobanya-Kispest and Tarnok
buses will transport the passengers between Kobanya-Kispest and Ocsa from June 22 until August 19
Perhaps you have seen the Parliament or the Fisherman’s Bastion
but have you visited the hidden underground tunnels underneath the Hungarian capital
and it is also known as the capital of thermal water
In addition to being used for the thermal baths
the hot water also has a different function
Over the centuries the water has carved natural tunnels and caves underneath the capital
Locals have started using these caves as vine cellars and bomb shelters
you can get a glimpse of the winding underground caves of Budapest
The Buda Castle Cave has three distinct levels, the first one is directly connected to the cellars of the nearby houses in the area. Then comes the Castle Cave itself, which can be found approximately 12-14 metres deep underground. The third level can only be accessed at a few places and is composed of natural caves. According to Várbarlang
They say that the labyrinth-like cave systems are connected to the surface via air vents and wells
it is not safe to drink from there anymore
At the time of WWII, Germans soldiers were also using the cave system for their own advantage during the Siege of Budapest

but Gellér Hill also has underground caves
There are some indicators that there might have been some natural caves
but the site has been heavily modified by human interference
According to Travelo
these tunnels were dug in the ‘60s and ‘70s to discover all possible thermals springs to help sustain the Gellért Bath
The tunnels connect the previously mentioned Gellért
The most notable thing in this tunnel is the rail system in the middle
the repair work of Rudas and Rác Baths’ machinery was executed in Gellért Bath and the parts were carried via carts on the rails
The tunnel system also branches off to the Saint Iván Cave which is figuratively called the cauliflower cave due to its interesting rock formations
What is beneath the ground of Budapest? Discover the city’s hidden attractions!
This underground creation used to be called Object F4
but it’s more known as Rákosi Bunker among locals
The bunker was renamed after the former communist leader who ordered its construction
it is located 39-metre deep underground between Kossuth and Szabadság square on the Pest side
The construction of the bunker started in 1952 and in the ‘60s it served as a mass shelter capable of housing 2,200 people in the 3,500-3,800 square metre tunnels
Visits to the Kőbánya Reservoir are quite popular among tourists. The underground system was created through limestone mining. Due to the frequent collapses, the mine was closed down, but later wine and beer manufacturers began to store their barrels and kegs in the tunnels, Travelo says

it was used for manufacturing airplanes on the site
a section of the underground system is used by Dreher
The cellar is also a beloved destination of film crews and divers who like to explore the flooded areas of the former mine
The system is estimated to be around 32 to 33 kilometres long in total and it can be found 10-15 metres below the ground
If you are intrigued, BudapestScenes frequently organises tours to visit these fascinating underground cave systems
the 200E will operate more frequently in Budapest during the morning rush hour between Kőbánya-Kispest and Liszt Ferenc International Airport (Budapest Airport) on weekdays
the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) announced on Friday
The decision was justified by the fact that in the summer peak season
the airport is expected to see higher passenger traffic than ever before
For those travelling to the airport from the city centre, BKK offers the fast 100E airport shuttle, which will run at its busiest during this period
many passengers choose the 200E from Kőbánya-Kispest
as it offers a cheaper way to the airport for those arriving from South Pest or by train
The number of airport employees and the number of people working in the logistics park in the area has also increased significantly, so this spring, BKK conducted a passenger count, Pénzcentrum writes
the transport company has already expanded the number of early Saturday morning departures for the 200E service
