Hungary has started preparing its first space law a key initiative alongside the establishment of a National Space Agency according to Economic Minister Márton Nagy The move aims to strengthen the country’s space sector and align it with European Union regulations Speaking at the topping out ceremony of REMTECH Space Technologies centre in Martonvásár Nagy emphasized that Hungary is actively monitoring the development of the EU’s space law which will significantly shape the national legislation is also undergoing an update to reflect evolving space industry trends and technological advancements To ensure the strategy effectively supports national capabilities the government has launched an EU-wide consultation to assess the needs and challenges of Hungarian space industry players a major milestone for Hungary’s space sector will enhance the country’s satellite manufacturing capabilities Nagy highlighted that space technologies are not just an economic opportunity but also a matter of national security and sovereignty A key goal is to launch a new Hungarian satellite by early 2027 Global trends also point to a rapidly growing space economy: the number of satellite launches has increased by 50 per cent annually while launch costs have fallen tenfold over the past two decades These advancements make space more accessible and commercially viable ‘The role of space in tackling global challenges is growing daily from disaster warning systems to telecommunications advancements and national security applications,’ Nagy stated Hungary aims to become a key player in the peaceful use and exploration of space building on its 10-year membership in the European Space Agency (ESA) the Hungarian government has launched a 3.5 million euro funding programme in 2025 These funds will support projects such as the development of domestic communications satellites and technological advancements in lower-tier space projects Hungarian companies will have access to 322 million euros in space-related funding over the coming years Hungary’s most significant space industry investment is being led by REMRED Ltd and 4iG Space & Defence Technologies Ltd Their ambitious plan includes launching a telecommunications satellite between 2028 and 2032 equipped with six high-resolution cameras and two radars for Earth observation A team of over 130 engineers and technicians is currently developing and testing the small satellite at the Martonvásár facility which will serve as Hungary’s hub for satellite production and advanced space systems will house Europe’s first Nagy said that Hungary’s ability to manufacture satellites is not just an economic and security issue as it is one of the world’s fastest growing and – according to international surveys – most resilient industries estimated to grow from USD 630 billion in 2023 to USD 1,800 billion by 2035 space industry that is in the forefront of technological development so the innovations and technological benefits spread out to other sectors of the economy This is a key factor to the further strengthening of competitiveness Hungary is in a good position to become a major player in the space industry This is why the investment of the government’s strategic partner as it will enable the company to become a regional leader in the space industry “With the joint investment of 4iG Group and REMRED we gain unique capabilities and infrastructure in Central Eastern Europe As part of our technology and defence holding alongside 4iG Group's traditional businesses in his speech at the ground-breaking ceremony “The services and satellite manufacturing capacity of the space technology center further strengthens the international presence of 4iG Group and develops new domestic and international partnerships We can enter a manufacturing market that combines state-of-the-art equipment with the latest knowledge to produce cutting edge technologies" and CEO of the space industry and technology holding company of 4iG Group Hungary could become a major player in the global space market within a short period of time The CEO said that already in the planning phase of the space manufacturing center the biggest international companies and manufacturers offered cooperation which proves that there is a huge international demand to produce low earth orbit satellites and various space equipment “Our goal in the space industry is to build on our own engineering capabilities to develop new and unique space equipment and satellites and to become strategic partners of the biggest satellite and space companies as well as national and international space agencies” including the data and services provided by satellites has become part of the critical infrastructure Due to the increasingly frequent natural disasters so the geopolitical and economic situation in Europe immediate information and communication is of strategic importance International conflicts in our age also shows the importance of space capabilities: without suitable infrastructure and applicable knowledge base a country becomes vulnerable The investment launched in partnership between 4iG Group and REMRED could not only play key role in the Hungarian and international space industry from 2026 but could also be a strategic element of national sovereignty and security policy through its technologic capabilities Only a 15-minute walk from the train station lies Martonvásár’s wonderful and nestled within it is also a cute little history museum This museum has been running in Martonvásár since 1995 and it displays the history of kindergartens in Hungary from their invention to various schooling tactics and toys owned by children over the years Kindergartens in Hungary were invented by a member of the nobility family known as the Brunszviks, who had an estate in Martonvásár, her name was Teréz Brunszvik Brunszvik and her family have a dedicated room in the museum Although the family’s history is interesting the real highlight of this museum is the vast collection of old toys and items used in kindergartens over the years to simple wooden toys to even communist-era propaganda for children The exhibition presents items that are from the earliest Hungarian kindergartens opened by  Brunszvik in 1828 to the kindergartens of the 1960s Some say that the first kindergarten in all of Central Europe was opened in Hungary.  The museum is only a 15-minute walk from the Martonvásár train station You can get to Martonvásár from Budapest with the Budapest-Déli station It takes only about 30 minutes to arrive in the town from Budapest The easiest way to buy train tickets in Hungary is with the MÁV phone application Most descriptions in the kindergarten museum are only in Hungarian.  A unique museum documents pop culture and bicycles from the 20th century Serbia This high-desert oasis spotlights some of Colorado’s most sacred native collection point in a brick factory in Monor Hungary to Auschwitz-Birkenau in three transports between 7-9 July 1944 Among the Jews on the last deportation from Monor were 14-year-old Zoli Schwartz his two-year-old sister Iren and other relatives This was one of the last transports of Jews from outlying cities and villages in Hungary to Auschwitz-Birkenau some 430,000 Hungarian Jews were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau via Košice Only the Jews of Budapest and Jews in the Hungarian Army labor battalions remained in Hungary Zoltán-Zoli Schwartz was born in 1929 in the village of Tatárszentgyörgy to Lajos and Ilona née Rechnitzer Lajos' father's family also lived in the village and owned a piece of land in the village which he farmed together with his son Ferenc who also lived with his family in the village Lajos made a living from the family store They had a license to sell tobacco and alcohol which they received from the authorities in return for their contribution to Hungary: Józi had lost one of his sons on the battlefield in World War I The Schwartz family would spend Jewish holidays with Ilona's family in the village of Martonvásár Zoli studied at the local Hungarian grade school for four years legislation was introduced in Hungary that limited the Jews' trading activities the Schwartz family's tobacco and alcohol licenses were revoked which had repercussions on the family's livelihood Jewish men of recruitment age were taken to the Hungarian Army labor battalions "The situation at home was hard," relates Zoli "There were no big celebrations… the baby was born into a difficult reality."  Zoli completed his middle-school studies The plans to continue his studies in Budapest were shelved The Germans invaded Hungary on 19 March 1944   German soldiers arrived in Tatárszentgyörgy on motorcycles One of the soldiers ordered 14-year-old Zoli to remove his boots and polish them The Jews' movements in the village were limited to two hours per day and were forbidden to employ Hungarian housekeepers Lajos and Ilona had Hungarian Christian acquaintances who agreed to take Zoli in and hide him "I didn't want to part with them," relates Zoli I worried that even if they would be good to me the Schwartz family received the order to leave and moved into the ghetto established in Lajosmizse a representative of the Hungarian authorities arrived I found out that after the wagon passed the corner of the road," relates Zoli "Neighbors broke the lock and looted the entire contents of the house and the store."  Ilona Korn and her son Geza were evicted at the same time Ilona's husband Erno Korn was in a Hungarian Army labor battalion at the time the Jews of Lajosmizse were confined in a ghetto set up in a number of large Jewish homes together with the Jews in the surrounding towns The bed that the Schwartzs brought with them from the village stayed in the courtyard under a tree there being no room for it in the apartment where they were crammed together with six other families the Schwartz family was sent by train to the brick factory in the town of Monor They were warned that anyone who tried to escape would be executed "They informed us that we were going to the railway station We took blankets and a few clothes… whatever we could carry," relates Zoli We thought we would be going to work in agricultural farms in Poland."  They were crowded into a quarry with no water and just a little food that was distributed from time to time Zoli and his family were loaded onto a train yet again The train simply stopped next to the factory They loaded us onto cars and locked the doors from the outside.. the train journeys were an experience for me I had never been on long trips out of the two villages where I had lived School outings were on foot in the area… I never went on long journeys I was excited about the journey… It was crowded inside the car… there were two buckets where they left us inside the cars for several hours.. The guards wouldn't let locals approach the train to give the passengers water… Until we got to Kosice we all got out of the cars…  A Hungarian gendarme gave us an impassioned speech to the effect that we were about to leave Hungary He added that if anyone still possessed valuables this was the time to hand them over…  We were loaded into the cars once again We arrived at the camp [Auschwitz-Birkenau] at night They told us to disembark quickly and to leave our belongings "You will come back to get your things later," they said "Stand in two lines."  They separated the men and the women I saw workers take our suitcases and load them onto wagons I said to myself: "We won't be seeing our things again."  I understood this from the way they took them and mixed them all up…  One of the men unloading the suitcases approached my mother and told her to give Iren to an old woman standing next to her… Mother stayed with Iren I did not bid my mother farewell…  I stood at the end of the line with Father and my uncle…  We went on foot received our shoes and they gave us striped prisoner uniforms Zoli was transferred together with his father and uncle to Mühldorf where they built underground installations for the production of weapons Lajos and Ferenc were assigned to a work detail that distributed the food they were permitted to take extra food for themselves Lajos and Ferenc were transferred to a different work detail under harder conditions Lajos and Ferenc's condition deteriorated quickly they both succumbed to exhaustion and starvation in the space of a few days were evacuated on a train in the direction of Austria to distance them from the approaching US Army Zoli returned to Hungary and reached the home of his aunt Irena in Martonvásár  She had converted to Christianity before the war "That was the first time I burst out crying," recalls Zoli I saw somebody I knew."  It was only after the war that Zoli realized that his mother and sister had been murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau Most of his extended family had also been murdered Zoli boarded the Ma'apilim ship "Theodore Herzl" bound for Eretz Israel (Mandatory Palestine) and the passengers were sent to detainment camps in Cyprus Zoli immigrated to Eretz Israel in December 1947 The Budapest Times Hungary’s satellite production capability is not just an economic and security matter Marton Nagy said at the groundbreaking ceremony of listed 4iG and space engineering company REMRED’s space technology production centre Nagy said the space industry had a “bright future ahead of it” noting it was one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors in addition to being considered crisis-resistant he said the value of the global space economy could grow to 1.8 trillion dollars by 2035 from its value of 630 billion dollars last year 4iG and REMRED’s investment of more than 10 billion forints (EUR 25.6m) in the new production unit will create at least 85 high value-added jobs You must be logged in to post a comment PRIVACY POLICY TERMS OF USE 2007 - 2025 BZT MEDIA Kft. Hungary is in Gödöllő 40 minutes by car or direct suburban HÉV train from Budapest Made famous by Habsburg Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Elisabeth the palace is referred to here by the name of Grassalkovich that Antal Grassalkovich rose through the ranks from minor nobility to increase his power and wealth and had Baroque master András Mayerhoffer build a magnificent palace here in the 1740s The Salzburg-born architect was also responsible for the Ráday Palace in Pécel (see below) Antal’s son then squandered his father’s wealth Gödöllő fell into the hands of a Belgian bank Just past the high point of Harmáshatárhegy in the Buda hills the Pesthidegkút estate was bought by Kuno von Klebelsberg and his wife when he was a prominent minister The pair would have enjoyed their afternoon coffee admiring the magnificent view from the terrace of this aristocratic Neo-Baroque residence the main building and outbuildings surrounded by a park full of trees and roses Klebelsberg’s widow lived in the building until her eviction with the Communist takeover Not only did she lose the castle but 4,000-volume library was taken away in a truck Bus 64/64A/164/264 from Hűvösvölgy to Templom The water flows down 17 metres long on 18 limestone steps, which is mesmerising to look at. ‘Fátyol’ in Hungarian means ‘veil’ which makes one wonder where the cascade got its name Some say that the water flow looks like a thin veil others argue that the name derives from the tufaceous limestone’s white it’s only a few minutes walk from the terminal of the Szilvásvárad railway There is a magical lake cave right in the heart of the Balaton Uplands, which is adored by many. The Lake Cave of Tapolca was discovered in 1903 and ten years later it was open to visitors The ducts and caves are the result of hundreds of thousands of years scooping done by the cold and warm karst waters Boating was made possible with the re-banking-up of the Malom Lake The Lake Cave is under general protection since 1942 and in 1982 it was placed under special protection There is also a protected type of carp here It would never occur to us that this breathtaking view is actually man’s work of art The Tarn of Megyer Mountain used to be a stone pit in the Middle Ages but as production rate fell in the 20th century and one of the most beautiful wonders of nature in Hungary You can access the lake via the Malomkő trail Taking a hike on János Hill is a perfect weekend activity if you live in Budapest and want to connect with nature The hill is named after János Hunyadi (a very famous Hungarian general and politician who was an important figure of the Hungarian-Ottoman fights during the 1440’s) You can access the lookout either by hiking or by the Zugliget chair-lift
