The investment launched in partnership between 4iG Group and REMRED could not only play key role in the Hungarian and international space industry from 2026
but could also be a strategic element of national sovereignty and security policy through its technologic capabilities
Only a 15-minute walk from the train station lies Martonvásár’s wonderful
and nestled within it is also a cute little history museum
This museum has been running in Martonvásár since 1995 and it displays the history of kindergartens in Hungary
from their invention to various schooling tactics and toys owned by children over the years
Kindergartens in Hungary were invented by a member of the nobility family known as the Brunszviks, who had an estate in Martonvásár, her name was Teréz Brunszvik
Brunszvik and her family have a dedicated room in the museum
Although the family’s history is interesting
the real highlight of this museum is the vast collection of old toys and items used in kindergartens over the years
to simple wooden toys to even communist-era propaganda for children
The exhibition presents items that are from the earliest Hungarian kindergartens opened by Brunszvik in 1828 to the kindergartens of the 1960s
Some say that the first kindergarten in all of Central Europe was opened in Hungary.
The museum is only a 15-minute walk from the Martonvásár train station
You can get to Martonvásár from Budapest with the Budapest-Déli station
It takes only about 30 minutes to arrive in the town from Budapest
The easiest way to buy train tickets in Hungary is with the MÁV phone application
Most descriptions in the kindergarten museum are only in Hungarian.

Approximately 9,500 Jews were deported from their collection point in a brick factory in Monor
Hungary to Auschwitz-Birkenau in three transports between 7-9 July 1944
Among the Jews on the last deportation from Monor were 14-year-old Zoli Schwartz
his two-year-old sister Iren and other relatives
This was one of the last transports of Jews from outlying cities and villages in Hungary to Auschwitz-Birkenau
some 430,000 Hungarian Jews were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau via Košice
Only the Jews of Budapest and Jews in the Hungarian Army labor battalions remained in Hungary
Zoltán-Zoli Schwartz was born in 1929 in the village of Tatárszentgyörgy to Lajos and Ilona née Rechnitzer
Lajos' father's family also lived in the village
and owned a piece of land in the village which he farmed together with his son Ferenc
who also lived with his family in the village
Lajos made a living from the family store
They had a license to sell tobacco and alcohol
which they received from the authorities in return for their contribution to Hungary: Józi had lost one of his sons on the battlefield in World War I
The Schwartz family would spend Jewish holidays with Ilona's family in the village of Martonvásár
Zoli studied at the local Hungarian grade school for four years
legislation was introduced in Hungary that limited the Jews' trading activities
the Schwartz family's tobacco and alcohol licenses were revoked
which had repercussions on the family's livelihood
Jewish men of recruitment age were taken to the Hungarian Army labor battalions
"The situation at home was hard," relates Zoli
"There were no big celebrations… the baby was born into a difficult reality." Zoli completed his middle-school studies
The plans to continue his studies in Budapest were shelved
The Germans invaded Hungary on 19 March 1944
German soldiers arrived in Tatárszentgyörgy on motorcycles
One of the soldiers ordered 14-year-old Zoli to remove his boots and polish them
The Jews' movements in the village were limited to two hours per day
and were forbidden to employ Hungarian housekeepers
Lajos and Ilona had Hungarian Christian acquaintances who agreed to take Zoli in and hide him
"I didn't want to part with them," relates Zoli
I worried that even if they would be good to me
the Schwartz family received the order to leave
and moved into the ghetto established in Lajosmizse
a representative of the Hungarian authorities arrived
I found out that after the wagon passed the corner of the road," relates Zoli
"Neighbors broke the lock and looted the entire contents of the house and the store." Ilona Korn and her son Geza were evicted at the same time
Ilona's husband Erno Korn was in a Hungarian Army labor battalion at the time
the Jews of Lajosmizse were confined in a ghetto set up in a number of large Jewish homes
together with the Jews in the surrounding towns
The bed that the Schwartzs brought with them from the village stayed in the courtyard under a tree
there being no room for it in the apartment where they were crammed together with six other families
the Schwartz family was sent by train to the brick factory in the town of Monor
They were warned that anyone who tried to escape would be executed
"They informed us that we were going to the railway station
We took blankets and a few clothes… whatever we could carry," relates Zoli
We thought we would be going to work in agricultural farms in Poland." They were crowded into a quarry
with no water and just a little food that was distributed from time to time
Zoli and his family were loaded onto a train yet again
The train simply stopped next to the factory
They loaded us onto cars and locked the doors from the outside..
the train journeys were an experience for me
I had never been on long trips out of the two villages where I had lived
School outings were on foot in the area… I never went on long journeys
I was excited about the journey… It was crowded inside the car… there were two buckets
where they left us inside the cars for several hours..
The guards wouldn't let locals approach the train to give the passengers water… Until we got to Kosice
we all got out of the cars… A Hungarian gendarme gave us an impassioned speech to the effect that we were about to leave Hungary
He added that if anyone still possessed valuables
this was the time to hand them over… We were loaded into the cars once again
We arrived at the camp [Auschwitz-Birkenau] at night
They told us to disembark quickly and to leave our belongings
"You will come back to get your things later," they said
"Stand in two lines." They separated the men and the women
I saw workers take our suitcases and load them onto wagons
I said to myself: "We won't be seeing our things again." I understood this from the way they took them and mixed them all up… One of the men unloading the suitcases approached my mother and told her to give Iren to an old woman standing next to her… Mother stayed with Iren
I did not bid my mother farewell… I stood at the end of the line with Father and my uncle… We went on foot
received our shoes and they gave us striped prisoner uniforms
Zoli was transferred together with his father and uncle to Mühldorf
where they built underground installations for the production of weapons
Lajos and Ferenc were assigned to a work detail that distributed the food
they were permitted to take extra food for themselves
Lajos and Ferenc were transferred to a different work detail under harder conditions
Lajos and Ferenc's condition deteriorated quickly
they both succumbed to exhaustion and starvation in the space of a few days
were evacuated on a train in the direction of Austria
to distance them from the approaching US Army
Zoli returned to Hungary and reached the home of his aunt Irena in Martonvásár
She had converted to Christianity before the war
"That was the first time I burst out crying," recalls Zoli
I saw somebody I knew." It was only after the war that Zoli realized that his mother and sister had been murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau
Most of his extended family had also been murdered
Zoli boarded the Ma'apilim ship "Theodore Herzl"
bound for Eretz Israel (Mandatory Palestine)
and the passengers were sent to detainment camps in Cyprus
Zoli immigrated to Eretz Israel in December 1947

Hirschi keeps race lead as Bernal shows flashes of form
Yannis Voisard (Tudor Pro Cycling) claimed the first pro win of his young career, attacking out of a much reduced leading group and holding off the chase to win on the category 1 climb at Dobogókő on stage 4 of Tour de Hongrie
The 24-year-old surged just as the last two riders of the day-long breakaway came into view and rode the pair off his wheel and won the stage by 10 seconds ahead of Thibaut Nys (Trek-Segafredo) and Sylvain Moniquet (Lotto-Dstny)
13 seconds behind Hirschi and three ahead of Max Poole (Team DSM)
Dries De Bondt (Alpecin-Deceuninck) launched the day's breakaway in the first kilometres of a testing 206-kilometre stage from Martonvásár to Dobogókő
De Bondt clipped off the front and was joined by Sebastian Schönberger (Human Powered Health), David Martin (Eolo-Kometa), Jasper De Buyst (Lotto Dstny), Matyàš Kopecky (Novo Nordisk) and Yves Lampert (Soudal-Quickstep)
De Bondt led the breakaway across the line at the first three intermediate sprints
while Schönberger took the points at the first KOM at Két-Bükkfa
netting 10 points to draw even in the climbers' classification
On the first of three ascents of the Pilisszanto
Schönberger moved into the lead with another 10 points
the Austrian sat up and went back to the peloton along with Martin and Kopecky
leaving the more experienced trio to forge on ahead
Lampaert looked set to snatch the overall lead from Hirschi with the gap hovering around 3:30 but Team DSM came forward to protect the position of Max Poole and Oscar Onley on GC
Lampaert's virtual lead was down to 20 seconds as DSM poured everything into the chase and obliterated his hopes as the penultimate climb kicked in
Jonathan Narvaez surged with 9km to go put pressure on race leader Hirschi - he didn't get far but tried to burn up the last of Hirschi's teammates
The gap was down under one minute when Narvaez launched again
Finn Fisher-Black pulled him back with Hirschi on his wheel and
when Narvaez saw this he tried to go again but Hirschi shut him down
The two leaders had 41 seconds with 3.5km remaining when Yannis Voisard (Tudor) tried to get away from the yellow jersey group. He was shut down when Egan Bernal surged
Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural) was next to counter
The gap was down to 10 seconds after all the surges
Voisard could see the two leaders and attacked to get across
the gap to the yellow jersey went back out
Lampaert and De Buyst weren't able to match the young Swiss rider's pace
Bernal began to accelerate but only dragged the group closer to Voisard
A bit of looking around allowed the Tudor rider enough room to celebrate a fine stage win

Anthony Szalay never lived the grand life expected of him
but he would tell you that in the end he lived a better one
He was born Antal Laszlo Jeno Szalay-Berzcviczy
the second son of wealthy aristocrats Laszlo Szalay-Berzcviczy and Anna Maria Dreher
His father's family were prominent academics and politicians who at some point had been granted the noble title Berzcviczy
The Dreher family originated in Austria and made its fortune with breweries and land holdings across central Europe
Antal lived with his parents and older brother Imre (Emery) in a home on the estate owned by their grandfather
and extensive grounds with stables of race horses and a private lake
Martonvasar had an impressive musical legacy as Beethoven had been a frequent guest of the Brunswick family
who owned the property for more than a century
Family lore maintains that Antal's first musical notes were played on a harpsichord and piano once used by the master himself
the boys were loaded onto an American Army cargo plane and flown to Rome
They would never see their father or grandparents again
they ended up on a farm in southern Ontario outside Caledonia
Their names were "Canadianized," the title dropped
assuming most people wouldn't believe him and the rest wouldn't care
He lived an undistinguished small-town existence without athletic or artistic triumphs
but had to drop out when the family's financial support from Europe dried up
Tony then took a job in Hamilton's steel mills
He eventually finished his degree at night school
in the course of living his blue-collar life
all the really important things happened: He found genuine happiness and a sense of purpose
He married nursing student Dale Field and remained in love for 50 years
and ensured that both completed professional educations
and he found great pleasure in listening to his children and all seven grandchildren play
He returned to Hungary a few times and was delighted to find many landmarks of his childhood had survived
which now houses an agricultural research institute
and then lived most of my life with very little," he once said at dinner
"I was privileged to learn firsthand that money isn't such a big deal."
David and Teresa Szalay are Tony's children

One of the most beautiful castles in Hungary is the Gothic-inspired, snow-white one at Martonvásár
The Brunszvik family owned it from the time of Maria Theresa in the mid-1700s
creating an idyllic English garden out of a swampy
deepening his tender feelings for one of the Brunszvik girls
The heyday of the estate and the expansion of the building in Classicist style came with Ferenc Brunszvik
This was how Beethoven would have seen it when he was busy giving piano lessons to Teréz és Jozefin

Made famous by Habsburg Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Elisabeth
the palace is referred to here by the name of Grassalkovich
that Antal Grassalkovich rose through the ranks from minor nobility to increase his power and wealth
and had Baroque master András Mayerhoffer build a magnificent palace here in the 1740s
The Salzburg-born architect was also responsible for the Ráday Palace in Pécel (see below)
Antal’s son then squandered his father’s wealth
Gödöllő fell into the hands of a Belgian bank
Just past the high point of Harmáshatárhegy in the Buda hills

will boost Hungary’s satellite production capacity
National Economy Minister Márton Nagy said at the ceremony
Strengthening that capacity is no longer a simple matter of economy
but increasingly a matter of security and sovereignty
Nagy said Hungary aimed to launch a new satellite early in 2027
He added that the government had called tenders for EUR 3.5m in funding to support local companies’ satellite projects in 2025
which will be built at a cost of more than HUF 10bn
will be able to produce satellites up to 400kg
The greenfield investment will be equipped with innovative and state-of-the-art technology solutions in line with aerospace industry standards
and the plant will be powered by a stand-alone solar farm after the handover
The 4,000 square metre technology centre will include a 1,500 square metre dedicated laboratory with ISO8 and ISO5 certified clean room technology
The facility will also house systems for vibration
According to 4iG
which is expected to meet the needs of both the domestic and international markets
will not only be a prominent base for satellite technology and the space industry
The unique investment will create an innovation centre that will not only be a hub for international cooperation but also for the domestic knowledge industry
with a number of links to education and R&D activities
The pillar of the space ecosystem is the large-scale HUSAT satellite programme
under which 4iG Space and Defence Technologies Ltd
launch and operate one geostationary orbiting (HUGEO) satellite and eight (6+2) low earth orbiting (HULEO) satellites by 2032
also aims to develop long-term partnerships with key international industry players in this programme
The recently launched international partnerships to explore technological and cooperation opportunities and promote innovation will open new horizons for the domestic space industry and will significantly increase access to ESA
As we said earlier, for the First time in the history of Hungarian space exploration, Puli ‘water snooper’ operates for 38 mins on the Moon

Summer waved its last goodbye a couple days ago, but the gloomy, rainy weather of autumn has not yet set in, so why not make the best of it? If you’re looking for a short trip, or a place for a romantic date, and want to enjoy this chilly, but still nice weather, then we have six suggestions for you, based on a list compiled by femcafe.hu
The castle was Maria Theresa’s gift to Count Antal Brunszvik
It underwent reconstruction and the form we see today was finished in 1870
slim towers and battlements will surely catch your attention
and inside you will find the Beethoven Museum
the German composer was the piano teacher of the count’s daughters once
Let’s not forget about the estate’s wonderful park (inhabited by numerous tree species)
Inside the castle garden there is a small island where Beethoven symphonies are performed thrice
The castle today is the home of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ Centre for Agricultural Research
Börzsöny’s oldest forest railway serves locals and tourists since 1893
it was meant to be used for forest-related matters
and along the route you can admire the different faces of the scenery
Another interesting fact about this railway is that it passes Szokolya by the main street
so most of the holidayers here are families
while the rest are equipped with huge windows so that everyone can enjoy the view
The flowing diamond of Szilvásvárad is among the most popular trip destinations in Hungary. The water flows down 17 metres long on 18 limestone steps, which is mesmerising to look at. ‘Fátyol’ in Hungarian means ‘veil’ which makes one wonder where the cascade got its name
Some say that the water flow looks like a thin veil
