TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Taste Atlas
an encyclopedia of traditional dishes and authentic restaurants worldwide
has ranked the best sauces in the world in 2025
The inclusion of Nusantara's special sauces in the rankings is in line with the preference of the majority of Indonesians for spicy foods. This has resulted in the creation of various types of sambals
Here are the four types of sambal that made it to Taste Atlas' best sauces list for 2025
In the ranking, sambal terasi is positioned at number 26 with a score of 4.4
is made from a mixture of red chilies and terasi (shrimp paste) as the main ingredients
Various other ingredients are also added to the sauce
Sambal terasi is usually used as a complement to various dishes
Terasi is a condiment made from fermented shrimp or fish
usually shaped like a paste with a reddish or brownish color
The reddish color comes from the natural pigments of shrimp
while the brown color comes from fish pigments
The name terasi comes from the word "terasih," which means "like." In the 14th century
initially offered as a tribute to the kingdom
really liked or "terasih" the pounded rebon (small shrimp)
According to Taste Atlas
the flavor encyclopedia states that this dish is made from hot chilies and salt
the spices are prepared in a mortar and have a characteristic thick consistency with a strong and sharp taste
Sambal is easily found in various Asian food markets and international stores worldwide
This condiment is commonly used in various Asian dishes
or as a complement to dishes served with meat
In the list of online travel guide companies based in Croatia

Danny Cole has been performing magic since he was 10
he has more than a dozen magic awards to his credit —starting with the Kleinman Award for Most Promising Young Magician at age 15 — and has performed all over the world
He’ll perform in Tucson later this month as part of a show called “Shenanigans: Comedy
and Mischief for the Whole Family” at the Temple of Music and Art
Cole owes much of his success to his maternal grandparents
who piqued his interest in magic and were among his biggest supporters
noting that “this magic thing isn’t always the most popular professional pursuit.”
They especially liked going to Las Vegas to see Siegfried and Roy
“I wouldn’t be as enthralled with magic if we hadn’t watched it together from an early age,” including shows on TV and live shows in Southern California
His grandfather even knew and taught him a few sleight-of-hand tricks
His grandparents also instilled the value of hard work
explaining that they came to the United States with nothing and started a purse manufacturing business
His parents were also supportive — a magician entertained at his Bar Mitzvah party — but they did insist he get a college education
philosophy and economics from Pomona College in Claremont
Cole worked briefly in a law office and also tried the restaurant business
he got a job performing for three months in Japan
giving him the freedom to perform anywhere
It’s a freedom his late grandparents appreciated
They both came from the Hungarian/Czech border
while his grandmother was sent to Auschwitz at 18
She lost all of her family except one brother
so I think with that narrowing of the family
[my grandmother] really wanted me to be able to pursue my dreams.” Another possibility
is that because his grandmother lost such a crucial time in her life and was unable to pursue her youthful dreams
explaining that research and development of new illusions can get pricey
he had the luxury of being able to make mistakes
“I knew I’d always be able to pay my rent.”
The “Shenanigans” show, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m., will also star Tucson native Eric Buss, who’s performed on “The Late Show with Dave Letterman” and “America’s Got Talent,” and Ivan Pecel, World Juggling Federation gold medalist, who’s been seen on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Tickets, $15 for adults and $10 for children, are available at www.ShenanigansShow.com

1945 serves Indonesian foods packaged in fine dining
One of the dishes in the menu list is rijstaffel, which is the Dutch word for a rice table
Unlike the original rijstaffel served during the colonialism era
the menu is divided into three options: chicken
Two options for the appetizer are duck soup and oxtail stew
such as gourami salad, pecel kembang (flower salad with peanut dressing) and tahu isi (tofu with fillings)
the presentation of the tofu is serious business
The dish consists of fried tofu filled with shrimp and vegetable and topped with fish eggs
The salad flower is made of various kinds of lower
that comes with petis and peanut sauces
The main course of this mini rijstaffel consists of ayam rujak (seasoned chicken) and sayur lodeh (mixed vegetables cooked with coconut milk)
The reddish tone of the chicken will make you expect a very hot flavor
the hotness level of the dish may be considered standard for Indonesians
although it is not too thick. Serundeng (coconut flakes)
traditional sauce and kremes (fried flower seasoned with broth) come as side dishes
The 1945 restaurant assigns special waitresses to serve the rice
Dressed in a traditional kebaya blouse
“You can order all of them,” one of the waitresses said
1945 also offers various kinds of fried rice
such as fried rice with wagyu beef presented for a fine dining
One of them is kunyit asam (tamarind turmeric herbal drink) served on a traditional tray with a small plate of brem (golden-colored confectionary made of fermented glutinous rice)
a yellow spongy cake layered with sour pineapple jam
Credit must be given to 1945 for its effort presenting Indonesian dishes in a fine dining
The restaurant would be suitable for expatriates
or those who have small tolerance to spicy foods
