The question of what the country’s medieval capital used to be has once again become part of the public discourse in Hungary in recent times
in the sense and similarly to how Prague had developed in the Czech Kingdom
there was no single central seat of the country until the early 14th century
In the Middle Ages the term ‘capital’ was not even known
although medieval people did occasionally speak of a ‘head’
the capital was of course always wherever the king travelled to and established his seat
Romania) nor Visegrád on the Danube in the 14th century became a capital proper under the Angevin kings
the connection between the medieval foundation of the state
is a reference to the royal throne (with the Hungarian ‘szék’ meaning ‘chair’ or ‘throne’)
Fehérvár’s sacral–dynastic character is undoubtedly in its favour: namely
the burial here of the first Hungarian king St Stephen (reigned 1000–1038) and his son Prince Emeric (d
and their tombs became a pilgrimage site of national fame
In the middle of the 11th century the Hungarian annals refer to the city as a ‘metropolis’ (literally ‘mother city’)
The royal treasury and coronation insignia (which were temporarily transferred to Visegrád in the 14th century)
The strategic location of this non-swampy city was also unrivalled; in 1242 the Mongol armies could not capture it either
a document that has survived in its original form recorded the earliest words written in Hungarian: ‘military road to Fehérvár’
The founder of the city is undoubtedly King St Stephen
and a few years after his coronation the town is also mentioned in several documents
the opening of the pilgrimage route to the Holy Land by Stephen around 1020 was at least of similar importance
as did the Crusader armies crossing the Balkans to Constantinople and the Middle East
‘The connection between the medieval foundation of the state
Following Western patterns can be good or bad
it was an excellent idea to found a collegiate church in Fehérvár
as the more important churches not built in an episcopal seat were called at the time
modelled on the chapel of the Carolingian monarchs in Aachen
The authority of the Archbishop of Esztergom was undoubtedly damaged by the new foundation
but a similar duality can be observed in Krakow and Gniezno in Poland as well
was endowed by King Stephen with the treasures he had captured during his campaigns
The new church was not only one of the many churches he built during his reign
but the King also gave it a special role and made it the ‘private chapel’ of the kings of the Árpád Dynasty
With its dimensions of 76 metres long and 30 metres high
the three-nave basilica was one of the most representative European buildings of its time
as the church was unfortunately blown up during the Turkish wars in 1601
At the end of the 18th century parts of the ruined basilica were still standing high
but its stones were used to rebuild the city and only its foundations survived
the city did not become a permanent royal seat
but its cultic and political significance remained the same
it was always considered the ‘centre of the country’
only considered the coronation of the founder of the state in the church of Fehérvár
and the vestment he had made and turned into a coronation robe were the evident and tangible legacy of St Stephen
in which the Middle Ages found the protective and helping power of the Holy King
‘Fehérvár was intended to be a permanent burial place for the monarch and his family’
King Coloman was the first to be buried in Fehérvár in 1116
Béla was then followed by three of his sons
and then by the greatest ruler of the century
In the 13th century the kings turned their backs on Fehérvár for good—the basilica became a royal burial place again only under the Angevin Dynasty
restored the fire-damaged basilica twice and chose it as his burial place; there is even a detailed account of his large-scale funeral there in 1342
Székesfehérvár became the permanent burial place of the Hungarian kings only after the death of King Sigismund in 1437
This fact was certainly connected to the victory of the nobility’s movement in 1439
which was accompanied by the revival of some ancient traditions
as witnessed by its living tradition of coronations
that the conviction was formed that the eternal resting place of the descendants of St Stephen could be no other than the Basilica of Fehérvár
when the city and the church fell under Turkish rule
The basilica is thus the resting place of 15 out of 37 Hungarian kings
Only two kings were not buried here between 1437 and 1543: Ulászló I
who fell to the Turks on the battlefield of Varna in 1444
The city was conquered by the Turks in 1543; and the Habsburg kings
‘The basilica is the resting place of 15 out of 37 Hungarian kings’
Fehérvár remained under Turkish rule until 1688
The only exception was the miraculously intact double tomb found in December 1848
in which the skeletons of a king and queen were discovered
The tomb was conclusively identified as the remains of King Béla III and his first wife
The remains were transferred in 1862 to the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Buda
they were given a decorative burial place with the support of King Franz Joseph of Hungary and were reburied in 1898
The tomb statues were made to the exact size that the skeletons suggest Béla III and Agnes would have been: 192 and 150 centimetres respectively
Although burial in Fehérvár was mainly reserved for members of the royal house
others were also exceptionally granted this privilege
allowed Comes István Rozgonyi to choose a burial place ‘for himself
wherever he wanted in the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
as well as to erect an altar there and enrich it with possessions and goods at his discretion
fought heroically against the Turks at the castle of Golubac
King Sigismund’s Florentine-born commander Filippo Scolari
King Matthias also buried here his favourite Czech mercenary captain
who was killed in 1476 at the siege of the Castle of Szabács (now Šabac
Fehérvár could not regain its medieval importance
and the place of the royal coronation remained Pressburg
This was somewhat compensated for by the foundation of the bishopric in 1777
and then by the gesture of the founding queen
which had been kept in Ragusa (now Dubrovnik
It was the festive year of St Stephen in 1938 that restored the town to its status as the number one St Stephen’s memorial site
the monuments and series of historical frescoes still present today
the extraordinary session of the Parliament here which legislated the national holiday of 20 August made it a unique year in the life of the city
we still have the opportunity to think about all this today if we visit the Székesfehérvár Royal Days
a series of events having been organized around the feast of King St Stephen since 1996

Ethan Katzberg and Leonardo Fabbri were among the notable winners at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial – the final World Athletics Tour Gold meeting ahead of the Olympic Games – in Szekesfehervar on Tuesday (9)
All three displayed the kind of form that could carry them to their first Olympic medal in Paris next month
Several other gold medallists from the Tokyo Olympic Games – including Andre De Grasse
Steven Gardiner and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn – returned to Szekesfehervar and won again
But it was a frustrating competition for two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson
the Jamaican had been hoping to produce a performance that would boost her confidence ahead of the Games
she appeared to be rounding into form at the right time with a double sprint win at the recent Jamaican Championships
Jackson came off the bend in the lead and appeared to be on her way to a fourth 200m win in Szekesfehervar
but she pulled up injured in the closing stages as world indoor 60m champion Julien Alfred came through to win in a season’s best of 22.16
Britain’s Daryll Neita was second (22.36) and Jamaica’s Lanae-Tava Thomas third (22.54) as Jackson walked across the line in pain
Jackson's fellow world champion Gianmarco Tamberi also had a frustrating evening
The Olympic and European champion from Italy picked up an injury to his femoral bicep during warm-up for the men's high jump
but the truth is that 30 days from the Olympics even a crooked hair is serious," said Tamberi after withdrawing from a competition won by Dmytro Nikitin with 2.24m
"I hope with all my heart that I'll be able to get back on the ground soon to continue pursuing what I've been working for every single day for the past three years now."
World champion Ethan Katzberg extended his winning streak in the hammer
beating many of the big contenders he’ll be up against at the Olympic Games in Paris
The Canadian took an early lead with 80.38m in round one before improving to 81.81m in round two and then 81.87m in round three
Ukraine’s Mykhaylo Kokhan was the only other man beyond 80 metres
while Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki was third with 79.36m

Leonardo Fabbri was another thrower to keep their winning streak alive
The European champion from Italy dominated the shot put and produced the three best throws of the competition
improving to 22.22m in round four and then rounding out his series with 22.43m
USA’s Jordan Geist was second with 21.72m
there were victories from three Olympic gold medallists who have previously won at this meeting
Olympic 400m champion Steven Gardiner achieved his sixth victory in Szekesfehervar
holding off a late charge from Jamaica’s Sean Bailey
The Bahamian sprinter produced a controlled and well-timed effort to wan in 44.50 to Bailey’s 44.64
Lythe Pillay was further back in third (45.24)
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn trailed 2019 world champion Nia Ali over the first few barriers
but the Puerto Rican came through in the closing stages to win in 12.47 (-0.2m/s)
Ali held on for second (12.54) ahead of Ecuador’s Maribel Caicedo (12.69)
won in Szekesfehervar just a few weeks before striking gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021 – returned to the Hungarian city to win the men’s 200m
The Canadian was just 0.01 away from matching his winning time from three years ago
clocking a season’s best of 19.98 to finish 0.39 ahead of Jamaica’s Andrew Hudson
World leader Kishane Thompson backed up his recent victory at the Jamaican Trials with his first win of the year outside his home country
was a comfortable winner of the 100m in Szekesfehervar
He would have taken great confidence from the fact that he finished comfortably ahead of world silver medallist Letsile Tebogo (9.99) and multiple global championships finalist Akani Simbine (10.01)

missed out on Olympic selection at the highly competitive US Trials – was a convincing winner of the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.21 from US compatriot Cordell Tinch (13.35)
The three big hitters in the men’s discus – world record-holder Mykolas Alekna
European champion Kristjan Ceh and Olympic champion Daniel Stahl – looked as though they were on course for a shock defeat up until the final two rounds
Lithuania’s 2017 world champion Andrius Gudzius threw a season’s best of 66.57m in round three to give him the lead
Gudzius still held pole position ahead of Alekna and Ceh
But Ceh then unleashed a throw of 67.99m to take a short-lived lead before Alekna leapfrogged him with 68.28m
The Lithuanian then extended his lead in the final round with 70.20m
world and Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou almost didn’t make the cut for the top eight
as he had a best of just 7.65m after round two
But the Greek then sailed out to 8.18m in round three to move into the lead ahead of Mattia Furlani
the Italian teenager Tentoglou beat to the European title last month
Tentoglou then improved to 8.23m (-0.6m/s) in round four to consolidate his lead
No one else jumped beyond eight metres in the second half of the competition
Colombia’s Natalia Linares won the women’s long jump with a final-round PB of 6.87m (-1.2m/s)
which carried her into the lead ahead of Ackelia Smith (6.83m)
Asian record-holder Kemi Adekoya won the women’s 400m hurdles in 54.13

Fellow world champions from Eugene last month, Shericka Jackson and Mondo Duplantis, continued their winning form along with Slovenia's discus champ Kristjan Ceh
Joe Kovacs put together a fine series to take the shot put, while 400m hurdles world champion Alison dos Santos was second on a rare excursion in the flat 400m behind Vernon Norwood
Marvin Bracy turned the tables on Trayvon Bromell as Americans swept the podium spots in the 100m, with world 200m bronze medallist Erriyon Knighton completing the evening's entertainment in style with the last in a number of meeting records.

there’s a meeting record to end proceedings
Erriyon Knighton fairly shot out of the blocks and was up on fellow American Kenny Bednarek leaving the bend before the world silver medallist stopped with what looked like a hamstring strain
Neither Knighton nor Bednarek had raced since making the podium in Eugene
three-hundredths inside Christian Coleman’s previous meeting record from 2019
Canada's Aaron Brown (20.24) was second with Alexander Ogando of Dominican Republic third in 20.38
The women's and men's 200m round off proceedings in Szekesfehervar and world champion Shericka Jackson was a class apart in the former
She wasn't as spectacular as in Eugene or Chorzow in Saturday's Silesia Diamond League
but the Jamaican came home in glorious isolation in 22.02
just six-hundredths outside the meeting record
Mujinga Kambundji completed a solid meeting with second in 22.45 to go with her 100m third
just ahead of USA's Kayla White (22.46)
All too easy for arguably the athlete of 2022
The American world and Olympic champion and world record holder looked completely relaxed as she ran away with the 400m hurdles with Jamaica's two-time reigning Commonwealth Games champion Janieve Russell a distant second
inside the old meeting record by over a second and exactly one second outside her world record from last month's Eugene World Championships
Russell clocked 54.14 in second with another Jamaican
wasted little time in settling matters in Hungary
the Slovenian produced a throw of 71.23m for yet another meeting record on a fine day of athletics
Andrius Gudzius of Lithuania was nearly four metres back in second with 67.39m with Sweden's Olympic champion Daniel Stahl (67.01m) third
Be inspired by this compilation of some of our athletes' finest moments
World 400m hurdles champion Alison dos Santos just came up short in his switch to the 400m flat
The Brazilian was right in contention but USA’s Vernon Norwood produced a late surge to win in a time of 44.96
Dos Santos took second in 45.11 with another American
Serbia’s Milica Gardasevic set a new personal best of 6.83m to take the women’s long jump
Agate de Sousa of Sao Tome and Principe was second with 6.78m ahead of Britain’s Jahisha Thomas (6.63m)
And joint Olympic high jump champion Gianmarco Tamberi took victory in what was something of a lacklustre competition with conditions affecting the participants
He won on countback from Germany’s Tobias Potye with both men clearing 2.24m
Ukraine’s Andriy Protsenko (2.18m) was third
ExclusiveHighlightsBarshim and Tamberi: United by gold and friendshipIt was one of the most emotional and heartwarming moments in Olympic history - when Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar and Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi decided to share high jump gold rather than continue with the jump-off at Tokyo 2020
Re-live that magic moment and hear from the two men involved
Grant Holloway looked certain to win the men’s 110m hurdles but clipped the penultimate hurdle and slowed suddenly
Jamaica’s Commonwealth Games champion Rasheed Broadbell caught him on the line to win in 13.12 with Holloway clocking the same time
champion Daniel Roberts was one-hundredth back in third place
A couple of earlier track results to bring you: Diribe Welteji of Ethiopia took the women’s 800m in 1:59.33
while Kenya’s Nicholas Kiplagat Kebenei won the men’ in 1:45.49
The two-time world champion had four throws in excess of 22m with his best coming in round five
Tom Walsh of New Zealand (21.93m) took second with Czech Tomas Stanek (21.66m) third
There was another meeting record in the women's 100m hurdles with Puerto Rico's Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn clocking 12.27 to take victory
She was one-hundredth inside Keni Harrison's previous mark with the American second in 12.49 ahead of compatriot Nia Ali (12.60)
Marvin Bracy made an excellent start to the men's 100m with Christian Coleman close early on
but the former world champion faded with Trayvon Bromell proving Bracy's nearest challenger
Bracy crossed the line first in 9.97 with Bromell (10.01) and Elijah Hall credited with the same time in third ahead of Yohan Blake (10.03)
Bromell had beaten Bracy in the Silesia Diamond League on Saturday
Olympic hammer champion Wojciech Nowicki could not stop Pawel Fajdek claiming a fifth successive world title in Eugene last month
nor beat his fellow Pole on home soil at the Silesia Diamond League at the weekend
winning with a fourth-round throw of 79.96m from home favourite Bence Halasz (79.44m) with Fajdek (79.15m) in third
The women's hammer went to USA's world champion Brooke Andersen with 74.84m
Her team-mate Janee' Kassanavoid was second (72.58m) with Katrine Koch Jacobsen of Denmark (70.13m) taking third
Joe Kovacs is leading the men's shot put after a meeting record in round two of 22.36m
And Mondo Duplantis fails with his third attempt at 6.01m
he had already done enough to win the competition
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won't want this season to end
After clocking a season's best 10.66 in Poland on Saturday
the Jamaican superstar flew out of the blocks in Hungary and burst clear of her rivals to cross the line in a hugely impressive 10.67
Tamari Davis of the United States (10.92) was second with Swiss sprinter Mujinga Kambundji (10.99) in third ahead of Twanisha Terry
He's had two failures at 6.01m after winning the pole vault with a first-time clearance of 5.80m which was just his second vault of the competition
Three-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of the greatest sprinters in history - and an inspiration to many
I 'm just happy and excited that I'm still doing what I'm doing at this age and continue to push the barrier of what it means to be a mum-athlete," the Jamaican star tells us
A better performance from London 2012 Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie after he no-marked on Saturday in the Silesia Diamond League
They were the only two men left at 5.80m which Duplantis cleared at the first attempt
The Frenchman came closest with his third attempt but knocked off the bar to hand victory to the Swede who may now attempt something beyond six metres
Big clashes on the field and in the sprints form the expected highlights at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial – the final World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting before the Olympic Games – in the Hungarian city of Szekesfehervar on Tuesday (9)
As the discipline that provided Hungary with its sole medal of the World Championships on home soil last year
the men’s hammer will once again be in the spotlight
the world bronze medallist and runner-up at the recent European Championships
takes on a field that’s worthy of a global championships final
World champion and world leader Ethan Katzberg will look to continue his winning streak against the likes of five-time world champion Pawel Fajdek
and Ukraine’s European bronze medallist Mykhaylo Kokhan
The men’s discus brings together the three men at the top of the world rankings: world record-holder Mykolas Alekna
The trio has clashed four times so far this year
with Alekna coming out on top in three of those encounters
But Ceh triumphed on the big stage at the European Championships last month with Alekna placing third and Stahl fourth
This will be their first three-way match since then
and possibly their final one before the Olympics
Another European Championships rematch will take place in the men’s long jump
as Miltiadis Tentoglou and Mattia Furlani – the gold and silver medallists on that occasion – renew their rivalry
Jamaica’s 2019 world champion Tajay Gayle and Cuba’s Lester Lescay are also in the line-up
In-form Italian shot putter Leonardo Fabbri will be looking to maintain his unbeaten streak this outdoor season
The world silver medallist and European champion has this year produced five throws beyond 22.80m
two of which came in a competition in Pergine Valsugana on Saturday
Jamaican record-holder Rajindra Campbell and USA’s Jordan Geist are month Fabbri’s opponents
world and Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi headlines the men’s high jump field
World 200m champion Shericka Jackson and world indoor 60m champion Julien Alfred both have fond memories of Szekesfehervar
Jackson has won the 200m at this meeting for the past three years
Szesfehervar is where she made her debut – and achieved her first victory – as a professional athlete
The two Caribbean sprint stars will clash over the longer sprint distance on Tuesday
Alfred goes into the race with the fastest time this year
having clocked 22.16 indoors back in February
but Jackson is fresh from a recent season’s best of 22.29 to win the Jamaican title and claims she is rounding into her best form
Britain’s European silver medallist Daryll Neita and Jamaica’s Lanae-Tava Thomas are also in the field
Akani Simbine is another sprinter who enjoys racing in Szekesfehervar
The multiple world and Olympic finalist has won the 100m in the Hungarian city on two previous occasions
both times setting a South African record (9.89 in 2016 and 9.84 in 2021)
The 30-year-old will be keen to notch up another victory
but Kishane Thompson – recent winner of the Jamaican title in a world-leading 9.77 – could have something to say about that
so too could world silver medallist Letsile Tebogo
Three athletes who won in Szekesfehervar back in 2021 just a few weeks before striking gold at the Tokyo Olympics will return to the Istvan Gyulai Memorial
He’ll take on Jamaica’s Andrew Hudson and South Africa’s Luxolo Adams
both sub-20-second performers at their best
Bahamian sprinter Steven Gardiner has won the men’s 400m in Szekesfehervar every odd year between 2015-2023
The Olympic champion will line up for the one-lap sprint alongside Jamaica’s Sean Bailey and South Africa’s Lythe Pillay
another Olympic gold medallist in Tokyo and two-time past winner in Szekesfehervar
will start as one of the favourites in the women’s 100m hurdles
but USA’s Nia Ali and Ecuador’s Maribel Caicedo will provide stiff opposition
Cordell Tinch and Jamal Britt are all among the fastest men in the world this year in the 110m hurdles
but all missed out on making the US team for Paris at the highly competitive Olympic Trials
They’ll be running in Szekesfehervar with a point to prove
Tamari Davis and Tamara Clark will clash in the women’s 100m

Mayor Cser-Palkovics will give the opening speech
Roman Catholic and Baptist churches will join the sermon
The Vox Mirabilis Chamber Choir conducted by Katica Zemlényi will also be participating in the commemorative ceremony
Jamaican sprint champions Shericka Jackson and Kishane Thompson are set to race for the first time since their victories at the national championships
facing stiff competition as they fine-tune their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
Both athletes will compete at the prestigious Gyulai István Memorial in Szekesfehervar
where they will encounter some of the world's top sprinters
World 200m champion Shericka Jackson will face a formidable opponent in St Lucia's star athlete Julien Alfred
alongside Britain's European silver medallist Daryll Neita and fellow Jamaican Lanae-Tava Thomas
who has dominated the 200m at this meeting for the past three years
She set a meeting record of 21.96 seconds in 2021 and is coming off a recent season's best of 22.29 seconds
where she made her professional debut and achieved her first victory last year with a time of 10.89 seconds in the 100m
Alfred enters the race with the fastest time this year
having clocked 22.16 seconds indoors back in February
This highly anticipated clash between the two Caribbean sprint stars over the longer sprint distance promises to be a highlight of the meet
will face South Africa's Akani Simbine and world silver medallist Letsile Tebogo
Thompson recently won the Jamaican title with a world-leading time of 9.77 seconds and is determined to maintain his top form as he heads into the Olympic season
has a strong track record in Szekesfehervar
having won the 100m in the Hungarian city on two previous occasions
setting South African records both times (9.89 seconds in 2016 and 9.84 seconds in 2021)
The 30-year-old sprinter will be keen to notch up another victory
but he will face a stern challenge from Thompson
who is rapidly establishing himself as one of the top sprinters in the world
World silver medallist Letsile Tebogo will also be a key contender
making this 100m race one of the most anticipated events of the meet
Both Jackson and Thompson are using this meet as a crucial part of their preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
and Thomas will be a test of her current form and a chance to fine-tune her strategy against some of her potential Olympic rivals
will look to solidify his status as the world's fastest man this year by competing against top-tier sprinters like Simbine and Tebogo
A strong performance in Szekesfehervar will not only boost his confidence but also send a clear message to his competitors as the Olympics approach

The Norwegian aluminium group Hydro has opened a new recycling plant adjacent to its existing extrusion operations in Szekesfehervar
Located around 65 km southwest of Budapest
the plant has a capacity to process around 90,000 tonnes of scrap per year
producing advanced alloys for components used in the premium automotive segment
the recycling plant's scrap feed will include 15,000 tonnes of post-consumer material per year
but that figure is to increase over time in line with customer demand for recycled post-consumer aluminium
When ground was broken for the project in 2022
the group expected to invest around €88m in the construction of the Hungarian facility
The new plant also enables Hydro to close local material loops
The extrusion works in Szekesfehervar primarily produce advanced aluminium components for customers in the automotive industry
"the production scrap that is a natural part of the extrusion and fabrication processes will go right back into the melting furnace in the new recycling plant," said Hydro
"Our customers are not only asking for recycled and low-carbon aluminium
They also need us to recycle their process scrap
With our new and modern recycling facility in Hungary
we are now able to offer that," said Paul Warton
executive vice president of Hydro Extrusions
"This plant will strengthen Hydro’s capacity to provide our customers with advanced components in recycled aluminium," said the company's CEO Eivind Kallevik
In order to meet growing demand and to strengthen its position as the leading provider of low carbon and recycled aluminium solutions in Europe
Hydro was set to grow its capacity for aluminium recycling towards 2030
Hydro says that its recycling network now counts 34 facilities in Europe
with a combined capacity of more than 2.3 million tonnes of aluminium annually
The next addition to that network could be a greenfield aluminium recycling plant in Torija
which is to have a capacity of 120,000 tonnes per year
the Spanish plant is to begin production in 2026 if Hydro goes ahead with the project as currently planned

Five winners of global titles have been confirmed to compete at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial – a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting – which this year returns to Budapest after 11 years of being hosted in Szekesfehervar
will be held at the National Athletics Center
venue of the 2023 World Athletics Championships and the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship
Four of the athletes set to compete at this year’s edition have fond memories of that venue as it’s where they won a world title
Two-time Olympic pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis
who won his second world title in Budapest in 2023
returns to the Istvan Gyulai Memorial after setting a meeting record of 5.80m in 2022
European indoor champion Emmanouil Karalis
who took Olympic bronze behind Duplantis in Paris
will renew his rivalry with the Swedish superstar in Budapest
World 400m hurdles champion Femke Bol will also be making a return appearance
The Dutch runner won in Szekesfehervar in 2020 and 2021
then claimed world gold in Budapest in 2023
The hammer is always a popular event at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial
and all eyes will be on two athletes in particular: world and Olympic champion Ethan Katzberg
and world and Olympic medallist Bence Halasz
Miltiadis Tentoglou is another multiple winner in Szekesfehervar who’ll be heading to Budapest
The world and Olympic long jump champion has won at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial for the past two years
Bahamian sprinter Steven Gardiner has become synonymous with the Istvan Gyulai Memorial in recent years
The 2019 world champion and 2021 Olympic gold medallist has won the 400m in Szekesfehervar on six occasions
and he set a meeting record of 43.74 with his 2023 triumph
looking for a seventh victory as he takes on a field that includes home hope Attila Molnar
Other leading Hungarian athletes confirmed to compete include 2022 European 100m hurdles silver medallist Luca Kozak and Boglarka Takacs
During the ceremonial opening of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium’s (MCC) new centre in Székesfehérvár on Thursday
who also serves as the political director of the Prime Minister
stated that Hungary needs to execute a strategic political manoeuvre in the coming years and decades
author of the recently published book titled Huszárvágás (Hussar’s Cut)
explained that the book explores the impending ‘bloc formation’ in the world
characterized by increasing military conflicts
and efforts should be directed towards building such a world
while resisting the forces around us working towards a different world
the book was written with scientific and analytical rigor
Balázs Orbán noted that there is an ongoing public debate about whether Hungary is on the right path
and the book aims to showcase that it is not only Hungarians who believe that
but many outside of the country also see the world’s transformation similarly
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees spoke about MCC’s mission
stating that the 21st century has brought global access to education
but individual talent development and attention to the individual have been marginalized
MCC has taken on the mission to seek students across the Carpathian Basin who have the ambition to go beyond individual career paths and serve the community for the common good
highlighted that the new centre in Székesfehérvár is in the historical city centre
offering better accessibility and greater capacity
and noted that plans are underway to expand its programme offerings
Székesfehérvár’s Fidesz MEP Tamás Vargha expressed that those involved in the work here
can draw strength from the spirit of the city
the Mayor of Székesfehérvár highlighted the importance of having one of Europe’s largest talent development networks and communities present in Székesfehérvár
This presence will contribute to the city providing young people with state-of-the-art knowledge
He also mentioned a recent national study where Székesfehérvár won the category of county-level cities with the highest level of development
The study indicated a significant increase in the percentage of graduates in the city over the past eight years
emphasizing the essential role of talent development in sustaining this progress
Olympic champion Steven Gardiner made a statement just one month out from the World Athletics Championships
running a world 400m lead of 43.74 – the second-fastest performance of his career so far – at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Szekesfehervar on Tuesday (18)
Some of the world’s best athletes were in Hungary for this season’s penultimate World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting as they sought strong results ahead of their return for the global showpiece taking place in Budapest between 19-27 August
Gardiner was among them and a day after explaining at the pre-event press conference how he feels “like my old self again”
he proved it with a dominant run that saw him shoot into the lead of this season’s top list
The Bahamian sprinter sits sixth on the world all-time list with the 43.48 PB he set when winning world gold in 2019
but he was unable to defend that title in Oregon due to injury
He returned to competition in March and stayed patient
Racing in hot and sunny conditions in Szekesfehervar
he improved the meeting record of 44.30 he set in 2015 to replace Muzala Samukonga as the fastest 400m runner in the world this year. Samukonga clocked 43.91 in April
while world record-holder Wayde van Niekerk continued his own comeback with a 44.08 win at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia on Sunday.
Rusheen McDonald chased Gardiner to second place in 44.03 – also his second-fastest ever time behind his Jamaican record from 2015 – while USA’s Vernon Norwood was third in 44.63
“I think that is my old self again out there and I’m happy," Gardiner said
"It gives me more confidence to know that I can do anything
I went out there and I did what I had to do and I surprised myself today.”
The women’s 100m starred a first ever clash between Julien Alfred and Sha'Carri Richardson – both unbeaten in the discipline this year – as Alfred looked to make an impression on her professional debut
securing a strong start and striding away from the rest of the field to win in 10.89 (0.7m/s) – 0.08 off the PB she set in Texas in May
who has won multiple NCAA titles for the University of Texas over the past couple of years
finished clear ahead of US champion Richardson
who closed the gap a touch in the final stages and finished second in 10.97
Her US compatriot Tamari Davis was third in 11.02
“A lot of people would say it is a surprise result
but I felt the power and I knew I could do it,” said Alfred
who next competes in the 200m at the Diamond League in Monaco
“I could not be in any better shape one month before the World Championships.”
Shericka Jackson secured another win as she continues her journey towards her world title defence in Budapest
The Jamaican clocked 22.02 (1.0m/s) in the 200m to triumph ahead of Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke
The men’s 200m closed the programme and Dominican Republic’s Alexander Ogando dipped under 20 seconds to pip USA’s Erriyon Knighton – 19.99 to 20.05 (1.1m/s)
Jamaica’s Andrew Hudson finished third in 20.36
There was a first 100m win of the season for Jamaica’s 2011 world champion Yohan Blake as he clocked 10.04 (0.1m/s) to lead a Jamaican top three ahead of Ackeem Blake (10.09) and Rohan Watson (10.10)
Nigeria’s world champion and world record-holder Tobi Amusan showed her consistency in the women’s 100m hurdles
following up her win in 12.34 at Sunday’s Diamond League meeting in Silesia with a 12.35 (-0.5m/s) winning performance in Szekesfehervar
while her US compatriot Alaysha Johnson was third in 12.50
USA’s Daniel Roberts edged Jamaica’s Olympic champion Hansle Parchment and Tyler Mason to win the men’s 110m hurdles
dipping over the finish line in 13.12 (0.5m/s) to his rivals’ matching time of 13.14
Andrenette Knight started strongly in the women’s 400m hurdles and she held on to turn the tables on national champion Janieve Russell and lead a Jamaican top four
Knight – runner-up to Russell at the Jamaican Championships earlier this month – improved her PB to 53.26 to win this time
with Russell second in 53.72 and Rushell Clayton third in 53.79
World bronze medallist Sada Williams cruised to victory in the women’s 400m
the Barbadian sprinter striding over the finish in 50.34 ahead of Romania’s Andrea Miklos in 50.80 and Austria's Susanne Gogl-Walli in a PB of 50.87
World record-holder Ryan Crouser continued his dominance in the men’s shot put
throwing 22.51m to win by almost half a metre
with three of his other valid throws also beyond 22.40m
competing in front of some of his Hungarian family
took an early lead with 22.06m in the opening round but Crouser threw 22.42m on his second attempt for a lead he wouldn’t relinquish
That opener ended up being Kovacs’ best and he finished second
with New Zealand’s Tom Walsh third with 21.85m
Shot put winner Ryan Crouser in Szekesfehervar (© Thiago Ribeiro)
World champion Kristjan Ceh and Olympic champion Daniel Stahl were tied on 14 career wins apiece head of their contest in Szekesfehervar but now it’s Stahl who holds the advantage as he thew 68.98m to win the men’s discus ahead of Andrius Gudzius (67.66m) and Ceh (67.60m)
Three days after his European U23 title win in Espoo
Mykhaylo Kokhan maintained his unbeaten year with a 79.37m season’s best – his farthest throw in two years – to win the men’s hammer
who set his PB of 80.78m to triumph in Szekesfehervar in 2021
surpassed 76 metres with all six of his attempts
winning by more than a metre ahead of Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki (77.89m) and home favourite Bence Halasz (77.82m)
Ukraine’s Kokhan backed up his winning mark from the fifth round with throws of 78.90m in the final round and 78.61m in the fourth
Just 5cm separated Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou and 2019 world champion Tajay Gayle in the men’s long jump
as Tentoglou prevailed with 8.29m in the last round ahead of Gayle's 8.24m from round four
Serbia’s Milica Gardasevic soared to top spot in the women’s long jump
leaping 6.80m to win ahead of Nigeria’s world silver medallist Ese Brume and Hungarian champion Petra Banhidi-Farkas
Gardasevic leapt 6.71m in the second round and that would have been enough – just – for her to triumph ahead of Brume with 6.69m from the same round
But the Serbian champion went even farther in the final round to consolidate her victory
Banhidi-Farkas’ best was 6.66m from the third round
Nelly Chepchirchir broke the meeting record to win the women’s 1500m
claiming a convincing victory in 4:00.18 ahead of her compatriot Brenda Chebet in a 4:01.25 PB in a repeat of the Kenyan World Championships Trials top two
Uganda’s Winnie Nanyondo finished third in 4:01.96
Australia’s Peter Bol and Gabriel Tual of France were locked in battle in the closing stages of the men’s 800m – Tual having taken over when the pacemaker stepped off at 600m but Bol readying himself to cover the move
Bol – who recently lost his Oceanian record-holder to his training partner Joseph Deng – stayed close and managed to edge ahead at the finish
winning in 1:44.48 to Tual’s 1:44.55
USA’s Clayton Murphy was third in 1:45.53 and Deng
who ran 1:43.99 in France earlier this month
Morocco’s Mohamed Tindouft won a tactical men’s 3000m steeplechase
clocking 8:15.73 just two days after another 8:15 performance at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia
Tindouft kicked to string the field out for the first time
He was chased by Ethiopia’s world U20 silver medallist Samuel Firewu
Noah Lyles en route to his 100m win in Szekesfehervar (© Bob Ramsak)
Noah Lyles closed his abbreviated 2020 season with an impressive double dash victory to highlight the tenth edition of the Gyulai Memorial
a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting in Szekesfehervar
racing with a black glove on his right hand
he returned to the track for the 200m which he took with an equally graceful run
“I was just out here to have fun,” Lyles said
explaining that he decided to double back after a training session last night left him energetic and feeling good
After his victory at the Monaco Diamond League meeting last week
I don’t get to run two races very often so it was a lot of fun
Now it’s time to go home and get ready for next year.”
Lyles raised his black-gloved fist into the air during his introduction before the 100m
He said he’s going to keep wearing it
“The glove is a sign that we in the African-American community are struggling in America,” he said
"I have a platform and I intend to use it.”
Italy’s Eseosa Desalu was second in the 200m in 20.35
fought off two-time world champion Dafne Schippers to win the women's 200m here
With the season’s four fastest men in the field
the showdown in the 110m hurdles was to be of the evening’s key attractions
building a clear lead by hurdle four and building on it over barriers five
chipping away at the lead over hurdles eight and nine
running nearly even by the tenth before taking down the world champion on the lean by 0.01 in 13.21.
Nadine Visser won her fifth race in as many starts this year
clocking 12.68 to equal her world lead set in Turku’s Continental Tour Gold stop last week
She held off a strong challenge by Hungary’s Luca Kozak who closed hard to clock 12.71 to break the national record in her country’s biggest international invitational
European champion Elvira Herman was third in 12.96
African record-holder Hugues Fabrice Zango prevailed in the season’s finest gathering of triple jumpers
sailing to a 17.43m effort in the fourth round for the day’s only world lead
Christian Taylor reached 17.34m (twice) to finish second
just ahead of arch-rival Pedro Pablo Pichardo of Portugal who jumped 17.28m
The women’s long jump also featured a close contest
with Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova notching a minor upset over Ukraine’s Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk by one centimetre with a 6.77m best
That jump came in the first round but she was consistent
reaching 6.72m in the second round and 6.73m in the sixth
Daniel Stahl continued his winning ways in the discus
delivering his 67.08m best effort in the third round
wrestling away the lead in the next round to seal his 11th straight victory
Wojciech Nowicki prevailed in what may end up being the finest gathering of hammer throwers on the planet this year
The three-time world bronze medallist took command in the fifth round with a 78.07m effort to take the lead from home favourite Bence Halasz who reached 78.00m in round four
Both fouled in the final round giving the Pole the win
Teenager Mykhaylo Kokhan of Ukraine improved to 77.78m to finish third ahead of four-time world champion Pawel Fajdek who threw 76.08m
The meeting kicked off in the early afternoon with the women's hammer
where French record-holder Alexandra Tavernier prevailed
The 26-year-old shook the rust out with a 71.73m effort in the second round
to trail Pole Malwina Kopron by a single centimetre
She took command in the third round with a 73.09m effort to secure the win
The evening-capping men’s 600m turned out to be more of a race than an assault on Johnny Gray’s 1:12.81 world best set 34 years ago
As world 800m champion Donavan Brazier predicted
he had a strong contest on his hands with World Championships finalist Wesley Vasquez lined up next to him
led into the homestretch and looked to be on his way to victory until Brazier finally reeled him in over the final 30 metres
The strong shifting winds in the mid-afternoon
coupled with steady fits of chilly pelting showers
Wadeline Jonathas won the women’s 400m in 52.09
edging Dutchwoman Lieke Klaver by a scant 0.02
the fourth-place finisher at last year’s World Championships
a season’s best for his first career international invitational victory in his last race of the season
the younger of the Lyles brothers in attendence tonight
World leader Femke Bol was also battered by the winds
but still won the women’s 400m hurdles by more than a second in 54.67
Ukraine’s Anna Ryzhkova was second in 55.86.
David Kendziera won the men's 400m hurdles in 50.00
A recent tightening of restrictions on public gatherings forced organisers to hold the meeting with no spectators
we had to take the tough decision of staging the meet behind closed doors as we could only have allowed in a very small crowd based on local restrictions," meeting Managing Director Peter Deutsch said
“Yet along the way we never lost sight of our goal
which is to organise a true athletics meeting
and not a downscaled version with empty lanes or individual performances spanned across continents and the internet.”
Deutsch said his team ensured that the safety of everyone involved in the meeting
“We truly are in a lucky situation that all athletes who arrived here have tested negative for the virus and by keeping the required social distancing in every area of the organisation
we intend on maintaining this healthy atmosphere.”

Olympic hammer champion Krisztian Pars unleashed a lifetime best throw of 82.49m at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial in Szekesfehervar to win at the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge meeting in front of a home crowd on Tuesday (8)
The 32-year-old took an early lead with his opening throw of 79.84m
but then world champion Pawel Fajdek sent his hammer out to 80.73m in the second round to equal the meeting record set by Pars last year
That record only lasted for a matter of seconds though
because with the very next throw of the competition
Fajdek failed to record any valid throws for the remainder of the competition
but Pars bolstered his series with an 81.35m throw in the penultimate round before producing the performance of his life with the last attempt of the competition
It was the farthest throw in the world for two years and added four centimetres to Pars’ previous PB
“The circle was very good and I’m very happy to set a PB,” said Pars
I don’t think a throw of 83 metres is unthinkable.”
Asian Games champion Dilshod Nazarov improved with each of his last three throws
Egypt’s Mostafa Al-Gamal also saved his best for the final round
his second-best throw after his African record of 81.27m earlier in the season
Pars extended his lead in the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge
with Fajdek currently sitting in third place
three of the top four finishers in the women’s hammer also produced their best throw in the final round
World record-holder Betty Heidler led after the first round with 69.52m
but by the half-way point of the competition the German had slipped to fifth place
Poland’s 2009 world champion Anita Wlodarczyk
but Heidler overtook her a few throws later with 75.34m
Wlodarczyk responded with 74.70m before finally taking the lead in the final round with 75.53m
while fellow German Kathrin Klaas made it on to the podium with her sixth-round throw of 74.62m
Martina Hrasnova of the Slovak Republic also produced her best throw in the last round
Heidler could at least take some consolation in the fact that she moved into the overall lead in the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge
while Klaas is a few points behind in second place with Hrasnova in third
Wlodarczyk is yet to compete in a third meeting within the series this year
world champion Bogdan Bondarenko defeated Olympic champion Ivan Ukhov in the high jump
Bondarenko opened his campaign with a second-time clearance at 2.26m before taking the lead by sailing over 2.32m on his first try
Ukhov then got over 2.34m on his second attempt while Bondarenko passed
The two global champions re-entered the competition with the bar set at 2.38m
Bondarenko called it a night after both he and Ukhov exceeded the previous meeting record of 2.33m
Although the high jump is as competitive as it has ever been
Bondarenko has now won 19 of his past 20 competitions
Former world champion Tianna Bartoletta won a 100m-long jump double
After winning the 100m in 11.35 into a stiff -2.5m/s headwind
which was facing in the opposite direction to the home straight
There she was greeted with some useful tailwinds and she used it to her advantage
She took the lead with 6.89m (1.9m/s) in the third round and then improved two attempts later to 6.94m
both jumps surpassing the previous meeting record
Fellow US jumper Funmi Jimoh was second with 6.76m
17cm ahead of Germany’s Melanie Bauschke
USA’s Queen Harrison sped to a 12.73 clocking to win the 100m hurdles
Two-time world indoor champion Lolo Jones was second in 12.88
The women’s 400m hurdles was won by Bahrain’s Kemi Adekoya in 54.98
0.18 ahead of Ukraine’s Anna Ryzhykova
The men’s one-lap race over the barriers was even closer as two world champions clashed
was making his season’s debut after another winter hampered by injury
But he showed that he hadn’t lost his strong finish and came through strong to catch reigning world champion Jehue Gordon on the line
both clocking 49.89 with Greene gaining the victory
World bronze medallist Emir Bekric was third in 50.04
2011 world champion Pawel Wojciechowski was an easy winner
clearing 5.70m to finish 30cm ahead of the rest of the field

Poland’s world hammer champion Pawel Fajdek won his 10th consecutive competition this summer with a world-leading throw of 83.12m at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial
in the Hungarian town of Szekesfehervar on Tuesday (7)
It was the second-best competition of Fajdek’s career and his hammer fell just short of his national record of 83.48m set last summer in Warsaw
but he had four more throws over 80 metres
Olympic and European champion Krisztian Pars
once again had no answer to the power and technique of the Pole
The local star still finished almost four metres adrift on home soil in second place with 79.23m
Fajdek has now won their past five encounters
Pars has dominated most of their contests since they first met in 2009
Fajdek has now closed their career head-to-head record to 13-28
Anita Wlodarcyzk made it a Polish double hammer triumph as she won the women’s event with 75.48m
The world record-holder wasn’t quite in as stunning form as her two most recent competitions
having thrown 79.83m at an exhibition event in Wroclaw and 78.28m to win the European Team Championships in Cheboksary
But she was still a comfortable winner over the woman she succeeded as world record-holder
Heidler had to settle second but this time with 73.91m
The high jump in Szekesfehervar also kept the crowds enthralled with six men over 2.30m or better
Mutaz Essa Barshim had a return to form after some below-par performances since his world-leading 2.41m at the end of May
a last gasp effort after two failures at 2.34m
Thomas also had a moment of renaissance and cleared 2.34m with his second attempt
one centimetre below his PB and his best jump since his halcyon summer eight years ago
Russia’s Aleskey Dmitrik and Ukraine’s Andriy Protsenko both cleared 2.32m and were third and fourth respectively
Thomas's Bahamian compatriot Steven Gardiner
confirmed that his recent 400m national record of 44.27
was far from a solitary flash of lightning and won over one lap of the track in 44.30
World champion LaShawn Merritt could do little to contain the prodigious teenager and came home second in 44.43
After winning at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Paris on Saturday
Polish discus thrower Piotr Malachowski continued his fine run of form by throwing 65.17m for the win
Another good win in the throws was acquired by Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch
There were slightly predictable Kenyan victories in the 1500m and 3000m steeplechase from Ronald Kwemoi and Jairus Birech
Kwemoi defeated his compatriot and Paris winner Silas Kiplagat
winning in 3:37.76 to the 2014 Diamond Race winner’s 3:38.61
Birech notched up his fifth win in six outings over the barriers this summer
It was a far cry from his world-leading 7:58.83 in Paris on Saturday but he didn’t need to run any faster and won by more than three seconds from his fellow Kenyan Nicholas Bett
There was a Kenyan win in the women’s 1500m as well
with Nancy Chepkemoi taking the honours in 4:04.41
it can be debated between the fans of Veronica Campbell-Brown and Lolo Jones over what was the top women’s performance on the track
Campbell-Brown won the 100m in 10.99 and into a -1.2m/s breeze while Jones looked something like her old self when she won in the 100m hurdles in a season’s best of 12.69
just edging out Queen Harrison who was second in 12.72
Georganne Moline took the 400m hurdles in 54.60
getting a good win over the rapidly-improving Cassandra Tate who was second in 55.06
the top women’s field event performance came in the women’s shot which saw Trinidad’s 35-year-old Cleopatra Borel send her implement out to 19.26m in the last round
her best distance for five years minus one day
Borel caused an upset by defeating in-form US champion Michelle Carter
who could only reach 19.20m for second place

The Military History Museum is leaving behind its familiar venue at the Buda Castle it has occupied since 1929. Last Sunday, 21 May (which also happened to be National Defence Day in Hungary) was the last day visitors could seek out the military exhibition in the building near Kapisztrán Square (which used to be the Nándor Barracks)
celebrating the 175th anniversary of the formation of the modern Hungarian Defence Forces this year
temporary exhibition of military history is set to open in August in a different location
That location is the lobby of the St Stephen Museum and Monastery in Székesfehérvár
Székesfehérvár is the town where all coronation ceremonies of old Hungarian kings used to take place until 1527
It’s about a 40-minute drive away from the capital city of Budapest
the Hungarian Joint Force Command has also been headquartered in the town
This exhibition also serves as a precursor of a grand exhibition titled ‘The Treasure Chest of Our Military Past’
set to launch sometime in 2024 in the same venue
some offices of the Defence Ministry will be occupying the old Military History Museum building in the Castle District
and future of the Hungarian armed forces is currently open for visitors at the Bálna shopping and cultural centre in Budapest
According to some design plans for a renovated block of buildings also in Budapest
the new permanent building for the Military History Museum is likely to be located near the Keleti Railway Station in the capital city—however
Fehérvár AV19 made their debut in the Champions Hockey League in 2022/23 which marked the first time a team from Hungary participated in the competition
From the town of Székesfehérvár some 70km south-west of Budapest
Fehérvár have a lengthy list of titles in their homeland
they became the third foreign team to join Austria’s top-flight league where they have competed ever since
The club traces its origins back to Székesfehérvári Volán Sports Club which was formed in 1960
With rinks only in Budapest and Dunaújváros
Budapesti Volán SC played in the capital from 1970 until 1977
The team played their first season in Székesfehérvár in 1977
winning their first Hungarian Championship in 1981
The club later became known as Alba Volán Székesfehérvár until 2010
when it was changed to Fehérvár AV19
The ‘AV’ part of the club’s name references ‘Alba Volán’
which comes from the city’s historic bus industry
‘Alba Regia’ was the Latin name for Székesfehérvár during the Roman Empire
Fehérvár will enter the 2023/24 season in a newly-constructed arena in Székesfehérvár

One of two self-built castles in Hungary (the other is the much more ramshackle Tarodi Var)
Bory Castle was the work of Hungarian sculptor and architect Jeno Bory
Bory built the castle between 1923 and 1959 with the help of several of his students
The building features a range of architectural styles--from Scottish to Romanesque to Gothic--all eccentrically combined
You can freely climb the towers and walk among the garden's sculptures
Inside are several galleries featuring Bory's paintings

talks between Italian side AS Roma and OGC Nice for the loan with option to buy of Dutch winger Justin Kluivert have reached a very advanced stage
The player has accepted to make the move in principle
with both clubs now putting finishing touches to an arrangement
We don’t yet have total clarity on whether this will be an option to buy or obligation to buy the 22-year-old
but for Les Aiglons’ sake one would hope the former
as Kluivert has been very inconsistent in recent seasons
South African sprinter Akani Simbine broke his own national 100m record at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial meeting in Szekesfehervar
Akani Simbine won the race in 9.89 seconds (+1.9m/s)
dipping on the line to beat Jamaican star Asafa Powell
He bettered his own national mark of 9.96 seconds
which had been set in Pretoria four months earlier
Simbine’s performance was the second national record (both still need to be ratified) set in the space of four days, after Caster Semenya clocked 1:55.33 to win the women’s 800m race at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Monaco last week
Simbine also won the men’s 200m race in 20.16 seconds
bettering his previous personal best of 20.23
which he had set at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing last year
He covered the half-lap distance 0.08 quicker than Isiah Young of the United States
“Congratulations to Simbine and Semenya, as well as their coaches and management teams,” said Aleck Skhosana
“These performances show they are on track for the Rio Games
and we wish them well in their final preparations.”
Olympic champion David Rudisha from Kenya returned to winning ways by running a world-leading 1:43.35 to win the men’s 800m

edging out third-placed Rasmus Magi of Estonia by 0.01
with Keisuke Nozawa of Japan securing victory in 49.26
Antonio Alkana also grabbed second spot in the Men’s 110m hurdles
with Balazs Baji of Hungary taking the win in 13.33
Alyssa Conley took fifth place in the women’s 200m dash in 23.22
as Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica stormed to victory in 22.52

A vállalatcsoport a kontinens harmadik legjelentősebb európai tulajdonú EMS (Elektronikai Gyártási Szolgáltató) cége
történetének legnagyobb volumenű beruházási programját valósította meg a tavalyi évben
Ennek legnagyobb része volt a Videoton EAS Kft
A 6,3 milliárd Ft-os csarnok mellett a beruházás részét képezi a 745 millió Ft értékű gyártási technológia beszerzés
az ipar 4.0 követelményei szerinti raktári beruházás 495 millió Ft értékben
valamint az infrastruktúra fejlesztése 685 millió Ft összegben
A városnak az elmúlt évtizedei és a jelene is összekapcsolódik a Videotonnal – mondta Cser-Palkovics András Fehérvár polgármestere
hogy a legnagyobb magyar tulajdonú vállalat a városban található
aminek életében jelentős mérföldkő a mostani fejlesztés
Szeretném megköszönni a város nevében is a beruházást
ugyanis a fejlesztés a város egésze szempontjából is fontos
hanem jövője is legyen a város gazdaságának
A teljes épület energetikailag a legmodernebb technológiával készült
energiatakarékos hőszivattyús hűtési és fűtési rendszert építettek és a csarnok egész területén intelligens vezérléssel ellátott LED világítást szereltek be
Energiafelhasználás monitorozást lehetővé tevő rendszert is beépítettek
a jelenlegi építőipari helyzetben kellett felépíteni a csarnokot
A Videoton vállalatcsoport 2009 óta folyamatosan növekszik
A Videoton mostani fejlesztésével kapcsolatban kiemelte
a vállalatok működését támogató gazdaságpolitikai keretek erősítésével
A legjobb befektetési helyek közé került Magyarország
hogy tavaly 98 nagy külföldi beruházás érkezett
amelyek összértéke meghaladta az 1380 milliárd forintot
Egyedül ezeknek a fejlesztéseknek köszönhetően 17 ezer új munkahely létesült
Fejér megyéről szólva a miniszter kiemelte: az egy főre jutó megyei GDP az országos átlag 102,6 százalékra nőtt 2017-re
így Fejér Győr-Moson-Sopron mögött a második helyre került a megyék rangsorában
A foglalkoztatási helyzet is jelentősen javult
mert a foglalkoztatási ráta 56-ról 70,7 százalékra nőtt
míg a munkanélküliségi ráta 9,5-ről 2,6 százalékra csökkent - sorolta Varga Mihály
