a former world mountain running champ and the Kiwi national record holder in the steeplechase
took her first ITU World Cup win while Russian men swept the podium Sunday at Tiszaujvaros
who switched to triathlon to better cope with a lingering Achilles injury
caught Russian Irina Abysova halfway through the 10k run
then ran away in the final kilometer to take a 4-second margin of victory in 2:00:48
“I was a little bit worried that I had worked too hard on the bike but I slowly eased into my running and eventually
“It was a good race because I had a great swim and a great bike and then enjoyed a super run,” said Abysova to ITU after the race
Ivan Tutukin and Dennis Vasiliev organized a bike breakaway
but chasers led by Australian James Seear caught the leaders with 10k to go and 29 men arrived in T2 in a pack
Polyansky and Brukhankov surged ahead early on the run and established an unassailable lead
Polyansky made his move with 1 kilometer to go and held on for a 9-second margin over Brukhankov in 1:48:45
ITU World Cup newcomer Ivan Tutukin surged to a third place finish 1:04 behind Polyansky to complete Russian men’s 1-2-3 sweep
“I’m really happy with my win because it’s the first victory for my country in 2009,” Polyansky told ITU media
“I knew Alexander [Brukhankov] had a very strong finishing sprint so I wanted to get away and I pushed on in the final kilometer.”

2024 - MOL's EUR 1.3 billion polyol complex in Tiszaújváros
boasting a capacity of around 200,000 tonnes of polyol per year
addressed by Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán
marks a significant milestone for the company
MOL Group stands as the sole entity in Hungary and in Central and Eastern Europe to cover the entire value chain
from petroleum processing to polyol production (a widely used plastic raw material).
MOL Group held an inauguration ceremony in Tiszaújváros to celebrate the completion of its largest organic investment
thyssenkrupp and Evonik IP signed the licence agreement in summer 2017
and the foundation stone of the complex was laid in September 2019
The main units were transported to Tiszaújváros between 2019 and 2020
and were followed by the completion of the complex's hydrogen peroxide
a Research and Development Center were also built
"I am proud that we have completed the polyol complex
a great collaboration involving thousands of people over the past six years that enabled us to deliver MOL Group's largest investment ever
perhaps the biggest development in modern Hungarian history
The polyol complex will significantly strengthen our company's position and competitiveness
with the entire value chain from petroleum processing to polyol production
This investment has put Tiszaújváros back on the map of the European chemical industry
making it one of the most important industrial centers in the region
It will enhance the industrial competitiveness of our country and could catalyze economic growth as well
as MOL's success is the success of the whole country," said Zsolt Hernádi
“With this new MOL polyol-complex we establish new standards in terms of efficiency
environmental friendliness and automation by combining proven technologies with innovative solutions”
CEO of thyssenkrupp Uhde. “We are grateful for the deep and trustful partnership with MOL
This polyol plant is a true landmark project and a great demonstration of how we at thyssenkrupp Uhde enable the industrial green transformation
With fully integrated and highly automated plant units
the valuable polyol chemicals will be produced in a highly efficient and sustainable way.”
The project involved an international team of thousands of experts
with engineering design work carried out in Germany
The plant equipment came from 24 countries
The construction of the complex involved 75 000 cubic metres of concrete
2 500 kilometres of cable and 700 km of pipelines laid in more than 18 million working-hours
The Hungarian government contributed with €131.5 million to the project: a €93.6 million corporate tax credit
which can be claimed once the investment is operational
and a €37.9 million investment grant based on an individual government decision
Polyol is one of the most sought-after plastics raw materials
used in a wide range of industries from car manufacturing to clothing and insulation
Polyurethane is made from polyol and is the base material for many of the durable consumer goods that everyone encounters in their everyday lives.
Polyurethane made from polyol is needed:
The Tiszaújváros plant will produce polyol using one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly methods available today
the plant will contribute nearly EUR 150 million annually to the MOL Group's financial results and will provide long-term employment for nearly 300 people
MOL Group has been strengthening its chemical business for almost ten years: the new butadiene extraction plant was completed in 2015 with a HUF 35 billion investment
followed by the synthetic rubber (S-SBR) plant in 2018 with a HUF 100 billion investment
the company announced a major strategic shift to prepare for the energy transition and the post-fossil fuel world by expanding its portfolio. As part of the third and largest wave of investment in the petrochemicals business
the polypropylene plant is the most important element
and there are nearly EUR 2 billion of life cycle investments that will secure the long-term future of the chemicals business

Russians dominate at Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup in men’s race in Hungary
New Zealand’s McIlroy makes successful transition from running events
A small lead group of nine formed in the 1500m swim and they managed to stay away on the bike
opening up a 50 second lead over the dangerous runners such as Australia’s Beijing Olympian Erin Densham and Yuliya Sapunova from the Ukraine
Hard work from Great Britain’s Vanessa Raw and Vicky Holland opened up the advantage over 40km of cycling which set up the race for the leaders
accelerating out of transition and into the lead
McIlroy bided her time and made contact with 5km of running to go
sticking to the Russian before surging away in the final kilometre
Further back it was the Australian pairing of Felicity Sheedy-Ryan and Densham who ran through for third and fourth with Sapunova in fifth
Zita Szabo from Hungary delighted the home crowd with sixth
“I had a pretty good swim and then chased down the front two early on the bike
but once we got there we all worked well,” said McIlroy who switched sports following an Achilles tendon injury
“I was a little bit worried that I had worked too hard on the bike but I slowly eased into my running and eventually
I’m heading to London next weekend for the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series before going back to New Zealand to prepare for the Grand Final on the Gold Coast in Australia.”
Abysova commented: “It was a good race because I had a great swim and a great bike and then enjoyed a super run
“This year has been really fantastic for me,” said Sheedy-Ryan
“I struggled with a few injuries in the early season but the hard work is paying off
To run through Erin [Densham] was very pleasing as she’s an athlete I respect a lot
I was pretty disappointed with the swim today
I’m struggling with the big packs in the water
but the bike worked well and I was lucky that I could chase down some people on the run.”
With the Russians enjoying their most successful day of ITU Triathlon World Cup history
they swept aside every other nation in the men’s race as Dmitry Polyansky crossed the line to win in a time of 1:48:45 with Alexander Brukhankov nine seconds behind
Ivan Tutukin ran his way into third as Russia went on to place four in the top five
It was the Russian men who pushed the early pace as they forced an early breakaway with Denis Vasiliev orchestrating the early push of pace as the top ten men out of the 1500m swim escaped into the bike
As they shared the pacing between them the chase pack could only maintain a gap of thirty seconds as the small breakaway tried to make the most of the technical bike course
The relentless work of Australia’s James Seear brought the chasers back into contention with just 10km of cycling to go
and a pack of 28 men exited second transition with 10km of running separating them from the finish tape
Polyansky and Brukhankov quickly set the early pace
surging away from the chasers and pulling out a sizeable advantage
With just one kilometre to go Polyansky made his decisive move
pulling himself clear of the finishing kick of Brukhankov
Further back it look as though Volodymyr Polikarpenko from the Ukraine would take the bronze medal
however he faded on the final 2.5km lap allowing Tutukin onto the podium making it a clean sweep for the Russians
Gregory Rouault from France came through late on to take fourth
“I’m really happy with my win because it’s the first victory for my country in 2009,” said Polyansky
“I knew Alexander [Brukhankov] had a very strong finishing sprint so I wanted to get away and I pushed on in the final kilometre
I’m going to London to race at the Olympic venue next week at the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship race before heading to Cyprus to prepare for the Grand Final on Australia’s Gold Coast.”
“My summer has gone very well,” said Brukhankov
maybe there was a bit of fatigue still in my legs from the Hamburg Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series race from two weeks ago
Dmitry [Polyansky] and I lead right from the start of the run and so we backed off and just looked to maintain the lead
We have the same coach so for him it doesn’t matter who wins
but I felt a bit tired in the final kilometre and couldn’t respond.”
“My swimming is not very strong so I expected a really hard ride out there today
but I am very confident in my running ability,” commented Tutukin
“I knew I had a chance once I got off the bike with the leaders
Turbaevskiy and Polikarpenko are very experienced and strong runners but I knew that I had a chance and I took it.”
Home advantage and local support saw Hungarians Zsanett Bragmeyer and Csongor Lehmann totally dominate on Sunday at the long-running and popular final of the Europe Triathlon Premium Cup Tiszaujvaros
the latest round of the European Cup series
athletes had also raced on Saturday to secure their qualification slot
Winner earlier this year of the Arena Games Triathlon Finale in Singapore
nobody was going to beat Zsanett Bragmayer in the Elite Women’s event
750m swim for the Sprint distance event saw Bragmayer lead the way
Gaining a small gap solo in the very early stages of the bike
a group of 11 soon formed at the front of the flat
from which the first seven finishers would come
Bragmayer hit the front on the run early and it was game over on the very compact
four-lap course which took in a circuit of the same lake they had swam in
the ‘Tiszy’ venue one that has taken triathlon to its heart over many decades
She was a full 22 seconds clear of Selina Klamt (GER) at the finish
her best European Cup finish of the season to date
with Anja Weber (SUI) completing the podium for perhaps her best result so far
beating Zuzana Michalickova (SLO) and Emma Jeffcoat (AUS) in a close battle for the bronze medal
Csongor Lehmann was World Junior Champion (2018), U23 World Champion (2021) and the defending champion in Tiszaujvaros
No pressure – but this was a set to be a race for silver for everyone else
Lehmann didn’t let down his many local fans with a classy display
and the gaps he helped create were key to the rest of the race
Initially there was a group of five on the bike
with Matthew Roberts (AUS) joined by a quartet of Hungarians
Five was soon three as Bence Lehmann and Kiss dropped off the bike pace set at the front
which left the remaining trio with a lead of almost 40 seconds by the time they reached the dismount line
and a lack of racing after a long time out with injury perhaps came back to bite in the final stages however
which saw Radim Grebik (CZE) and Gergely Kiss (HUN) move past Ben on the final lap to complete the podium
Another step in the right direction for Dijkstra
who with a clear run of injury-free racing and training still has plenty of opportunities ahead to display his undoubted talent
The chasers had reduced the Lehmann lead to 19 seconds by the end
this was a dominant victory for the home town hero
Sunday 17 July 2022 (Final) – 750m / 20km / 5km

American Renee Tomlin kept her first position from T2 to the finish line
Pierre Le Corre and Ashleigh Gentle took the wins at the 2012 ITU Tiszaujvaros World Cup
a race that was set with qualifying heats the day prior
The French today actually manged to sweep the men's podium
Bryce McMaster and Andrey Bryukhankove had won the semi final events on Saturday and thus many eyes were on them as the men entered the water
Aurelien Raphael who had posted the fastest swim the day before again showed his prowess in the water and reached the pontoon first
His French teammates Anthony Pujades and Pierre Le Corre were not far behind
The three French athletes with assistance from the Russian duo Igor Polyanskiy and Andrey Bryuksnkov
plus Aussies Dan Wilson and Ryan Fisher led a 10-men group out of transition
and that leading bunch steadily pushed their advantage over the chasers up
By the time they reached the second transition they had one minute advantage over a group that contained Verzbicas
Le Corre moved into the lead on the run fairly soon and Raphael looked well established in second position
but third place was a battle between Pujades and Fisher
with the French Pro getting the better of the Aussie at the end
Raphael the runner-up spot and Pujades the final podium spot
the French managed a rare sweep of the podium
Ashleigh Gentle and Annamaria Mazzetti took the semi final heats on Saturday and looked well again for the main event today
Inna Tsyganok was first out of the water in 9:31
Gentle though pushed it hard on the bike and with the athletes up front not pushing their advantage out even further
Gentle and quite a few others managed to ride into the front pack and thus 21 athletes rolled into the bike-run transition together
German Rebecca Robisch was first out on the run
but Gentle took over the lead reasonably soon
Maake Caelers though really gave her a run for the money and challenged the Aussie until the end
Gentle though had a bit more left at the end and took the win in 58:39
"It was a really hard fought battle to be honest," said Gentle
but she was relentless and stuck by my side
I’m lucky I had that little bit extra at the end."
Caelers took second place and Mazzetti finished third
One week after Gwen Jorgensen (USA) qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games
the rising American star backed it up with her first World Cup win at the 2011 Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup
She continued her blistering form today in Hungary after taking silver last weekend on the Olympic course in London
Italy’s Annamaria Mazzetti held on for the silver
her second career World Cup medal while Russia’s Irina Abysova took the bronze
Japan’s Akane Tsuchihashi led the swim and the first transition but failed to capitalise on her 7-second lead over second placed Lang
Lang shared her lead with Switzerland’s Celine Schaerer
quickly broke into two packs in the 40km bike course
couldn’t catch the first led by Briton’s Kerry Lang
Russia’s Liubov Ivanovskaya and Line Jensen from Denmark
struggled to bridge the gap with the front pack
“I think I was the first one that didn’t make that front pack
we were all trying to work to get up there
but we had a lot of strong cyclists in that first group and we just weren’t able to bridge up,” said Jorgensen
“I knew we were losing time and there’s just so many talented girls out there
Schaerer and Sara Vilic (CRO) led going into the second transition with no clear packs
Jorgensen wasted no time in attacking first placed Mazzetti and Tsuchihashi
Between the second transition and second lap of the run Jorgensen shifted into another gear
From there on she didn’t look back passing run leader Mazzetti and snatching the gold in the thrilling final lap
Despite a 70-second deficit coming out of T2
Jorgensen made up more than 15 seconds on each of the laps and stopped the clock at 1 hour
59 minutes and 54 seconds to claim her maiden ITU victory
Russia’s Abysova took the bronze after a battle in the final lap with Felicity Sheedy-Ryan (AUS) in a time of 2:00:19
eight seconds behind Jorgensen while Abysova finished up a further 16 seconds back
Jorgensen blazed to the day’s fastest run split at 33:49
a full 42 seconds faster than any other woman on the 10km run course
“There’s so many people out there cheering

Desiree Ridenour claimed a junior gold medal while Matthew Sharpe narrowly missed the podium at the ITU Tiszaujvaros world cups in Hungary this weekend
Canada’s Matt Sharpe came up a stride short of the ultimate gift of hopping onto the World Cup podium at the world-renowned triathlon race in Tiszaujvaros
who qualified for Sunday’s final after winning his semifinal heat on Saturday
was solid in all three disciplines of the sprint distance race
en route to finishing in fourth spot with a time of 55:19
but disappointed in the result,” said Sharpe
“I came here to podium so I feel like I missed out
but I honestly couldn’t really have done anything different
Taking advantage of a strong 750-metre swim where he came out of the water in eighth spot
Sharpe was one of four athletes to control the 20-kilometre slick bike course lined by thousands of screaming fans
“After breaking my collarbone earlier this year
I haven’t had a ton of confidence in my swim
but I saw a glimpse of the past today so that is exciting,” added Sharpe
“We had rain on the bike and that made things a little messy
and made a bit of a move into T2 as the second pack caught our group
It felt a bit like a bike race so that was fun.”
Coming out of second transition in first spot with Stefan Zachaeus
Sharpe fed off the electric atmosphere in Tiszy to match stride-for-stride with the lead group on the five-kilometre run before running out of gas in the sprint finish
“Coming off the bike I definitely had some fatigue in the legs
There were a few moments I really had to dig deep
but I pride myself in my mental strength and I was able to stay near the front
“This place is unreal for racing and I’m so happy to race in a place where they have invested so much in Triathlon.”
Hungary’s Bence Bicsak thrilled the hometown crowd
The Russians edged out Sharpe for the final two spots on the podium
Dmitry Polyanskiy claimed the silver medal at 55:13
while Ilya Prasolov won the race for the bronze at 55:18
was the only other Canadian in the field and finished 13th (55:49)

Desirae Ridenour Wins Back-to-Back Gold in Junior Racing
Canada’s Desirae Ridenour capped off a dream week by winning her second straight gold medal – this time at the Junior European Cup race in Tiszaujvaros
Feeding off the momentum of winning her first international race at the CAMTRI North American Championships one week ago
the 17-year-old Ridenour took down many of the world’s top junior triathletes Sunday morning after clocking a time of 42:05 in the two-day event
“It was such an amazing feeling to win today and nice to see the work that I have done in training is paying off,” said Ridenour
who qualified for the finals after winning her heat on Saturday
There were massive crowds here today with the whole town coming out to watch and cheer on all of the athletes
I am really pleased with how things went.”
Coming out of the water in third spot after a strong 500-metre swim set the tone for a nearly flawless race by the Canadian teenager
Charging out onto the 12-kilometre bike course with a trio of athletes
Holly Henry driving it to the front of the pack after posting the fastest bike time
The two Canadians dismounted their bike at the same time in second spot to set up a run for the medals
“We all worked well together increasing our lead
I tried to stay hydrated on the bike as much as I could so the run wouldn’t be as painful,” said Ridenour
“I sat back for the first two loops of the run
the Hungarian took off and I kept with her
I stayed behind her until the final 300 metres where I sprinted passed her
I just kept up the pace till the finish line.”
Hungary’s Dorka Putnoczki settled for second place at 42:16
finished 23 seconds off the leading mark in third spot at 42:28
While Canada’s Holly Henry hammered the bike
it was her sister Hannah Henry rocking the run
The young Victoria resident stormed into fourth place with a time of 42:44
It has been a week to remember for Ridenour
In addition to winning her first two international junior races
the Canadian teen qualified to race in the Super League Triathlons
“I am super excited and nervous to race in Super League
It will be a great learning opportunity as I will be competing against the best triathletes in the world,” added Ridenour
but I don’t like to have too much because you never know what the top athletes are capable of.”

it has been rare to see Canadians excel on the competitive European circuit
“It’s pretty fun to be able to get this first win (on the week of my birthday),” Beaulieu said
“I hope to get another podium next week in Tabor (Czech Republic).”
Like the event in Montreal a few weeks ago
the course in Tiszaujvaros featured a super-sprint distance – 500 m swim
Three semifinal heats on Saturday saw the top nine finishers move to the final along with the next three fastest times
13 seconds up on Chile’s Andree Buc and Hungary’s Zalan Hobor – a photo finish would see Buc take the silver medal
and everybody was pushing extremely hard on the bike so it made the race really hard
but when it came to the run I felt good and decided to push,” said Beaulieu
Que.’s Nicolas Bolouri taking 29th in 39:39
Montreal’s Clara Normand (45:32) took 26th in the junior women’s race
Victoria’s Jamie Harker qualified for the final
Results from the race can be found here
MOL Group has inaugurated a polyol plant in Tiszaújváros (Hungary)
following an investment worth 1.3 billion euros
The complex has a production capacity of approximately 200,000 tons of polyols per year
thyssenkrupp and Evonik IP signed the license agreement in the summer of 2017
“I am proud to have completed the polio complex
It was a real international team effort and is the result of an extraordinary collaboration involving thousands of people over the past six years and which has enabled us to realize the largest investment of the MOL Group
perhaps the largest development in modern history of Hungary
The polyol complex will significantly strengthen our company’s position and competitiveness across the entire value chain
This investment put Tiszaújváros back on the map of the European chemical industry
turning it into one of the most important industrial centers in the region
This will enhance our country’s industrial competitiveness and could also catalyze economic growth
because the success of MOL represents the success of the whole country,” said Zsolt Hernádi
An international team of thousands of experts was involved in this project
and technological design work was carried out in Germany
The equipment used in the factory comes from 24 countries
The construction of the complex required 75,000 cubic meters of concrete
2,500 kilometers of cables and 700 kilometers of pipes installed in more than 18 million working hours
The Hungarian government contributed EUR 131.5 million to the project: a company tax credit of EUR 93.6 million
and an investment grant of EUR 37.9 million euros
offered on the basis of an individual government decision
Polyol is one of the most sought-after raw materials for plastics
being used in a wide range of industries from automotive manufacturing to clothing and insulation
Polyurethane is made from polyol and is the base material for many of the consumer durables that people encounter in their daily work
Fanni Szalai, the teenage superstar who rose to prominence at the start of the year where she podiumed at the Arena Games Triathlon in Sursee has just secured her second consecutive Europe Junior Cup win
who won the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup in Caorle in May against girls up to three years her senior
was utterly dominant on home turf on Sunday as she took the tape at Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Tiszaujvaros
Having already finished sixth overall in the Arena Games Triathlon series and won her debut European Cup in Caorle
the stage was set for Szalai to do something special in front of a home crowd this weekend
Having exited the water with the front group of five and stayed away with the group on the bike
the Hungarian lost a couple of seconds to the rest of the field in transition
breaking clear early on and never looking back
Szalai looks to be continuing to go from strength-to-strength this season
where she will compete at the Europe Triathlon Youth Championships Festival in Banyoles
In addition to her European Junior Cup and Championships schedule this season, Szalai was also one of the first athletes announced for the 2023 Super League Championship Series
which will see her compete against the very best in the sport over a range of exciting formats
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that new gas power plants would be built in the country
He explained the decision by highlighting the increased demand for energy from domestic investments
It was also revealed that the power plants would be built in the eastern region of Hungary
Since then, the Ministry of Energy has announced the exact location of the power plants and the details of how the project would be financed, forbes.hu reported
Three combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants are planned to be built in Hungary
Two of them will be built in Tiszaújváros and one in Visonta
The blocks in Tiszaújváros will be built at the base of MVM Tisza Power Plant
The two power plants will have a maximum capacity of 500 MW each
The plant to be built in Visonta will be on the site of the Matra Power Plant owned by MVM Matra Energy Ltd
This block will have a maximum capacity of 650 MW
The two units in Tiszaújváros will be able to generate an average of 5,200 GWh of electricity per year
while the one in Visonta will have a capacity of 3,800 GWh per year
Orbán said last week that the final form of funding had not been decided
EU funds and foreign investment were also among the options
it has been revealed that the project will be financed by public funds
conditional tenders for the construction of the power plant blocks
According to the ministry’s statement
One advantage is that these plants can be built relatively quickly
The construction of the three power plants in Hungary is expected to take 3 to 3.5 years
Other advantages are that these power plants have a high level of efficiency
with low specific carbon dioxide emissions and controllable power outputs
The construction will also make use of existing infrastructures
the power plant in Tiszaújváros will be built on a site where an earlier decommissioned oil-fired power plant is currently located
the new plants will be able to be integrated into a system with thousands of megawatts of solar capacity
Another reason for the new plants is that the planned blocks will also be able to generate electricity by burning hydrogen to some extent
As the three power plants will be able to serve the growing energy demand
the ministry believes that this development will greatly contribute to stimulating investments and creating jobs
They also aim to reduce Hungary’s energy dependence by boosting domestic electricity generation

Hungary is “on the path of development because it is a safe country”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Monday at the opening of a synthetic rubber plant by Hungary’s oil and gas company MOL and Japan Synthetic Rubber Corporation (JSR) in Tiszaújváros (E Hungary)
Referring to the upcoming parliamentary election
Hungary is facing an important decision because “investments and developments are made in safe countries only
which have secure legal systems and a predictable political situation
where the helm of the government is not jostled back and forth between left and right.”
Orbán said investments are made in countries where “security is provided in physical terms”
where there is no threat of terror and public security is not facing serious challenges
“Hungary will not become an immigrant country
large investors can keep on arriving from abroad and Hungarian large investors are encouraged to continue with developments,” Orbán said
He added that a 4 percent annual economic growth will be maintained if his Fidesz party wins the upcoming election
Orbán said the new plant will bring Tiszaujvaros closer to becoming a chemicals industry hub for Central Europe
The plant will turn out 60,000 tonnes of synthetic rubber a year
MOL plans to invest 4.5 billion dollars in its chemicals business by 2030
raising petrochemical raw material use to 3 million tonnes a year already in the mid-term
