floods affected three villages: Pandansari Village in Ajibarang District and Cikawung Village and Pasiraman Kidul Village in Pekuncen District
a landslide occurred in Cibangkong Village
specifically on a previously cracked district road
“Due to approximately six hours of high-intensity rainfall
Heavy rainfall had been reported in Banyumas since Sunday afternoon
the landslide damaged a house belonging to a resident of Cibangkong Village
“The financial losses caused by the landslide are still being calculated
and community service efforts are underway to clear the landslide debris,” Budi explained
Meanwhile, the flood submerging Pandansari Village was triggered by the overflowing Dondong River
reaching a height of 50 centimeters in yards and 20 centimeters inside houses
“The overflowing Dondong River affected 35 families
in the Neighborhood/Community Unit RT05/RW03 area
20 families consisting of 60 people were impacted,” Budi noted
the flood was caused by the overflow of the Banjar Kawung irrigation channel
the flood swept away approximately 3,000 fish seeds from ponds belonging to residents of RT01/RW07
particularly in the RT01 and RT02/RW01 areas
Budi urged Banyumas residents to remain vigilant as there is a possibility of further disasters. “Based on the weather forecast issued by BMKG, extreme weather conditions may persist until Monday,” he stated, mentioning the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)

Waste management is not solely the government’s responsibility; every member of society has an equal obligation
leading to garbage piling up and spreading everywhere
This situation arises due to the public’s lack of readiness to sort and process household waste
shared his success story in managing waste in the Banyumas Regency
According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK)
Banyumas ranks among the best regencies in waste management
the waste management innovations in Banyumas emerged because the local landfill managed by the local government was closed by residents,” Husein explained during a talk show titled “Building Sustainable Ecosystem for Future Generations.”
This event took place at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Center (GIK UGM) on Monday (Oct
14) in celebration of World Habitat Day and World Cities Day 2024
Husein described how the success of waste management in Banyumas is due to the Banyumas Regency Government’s guarantee of acting as an off-taker for waste-derived products produced by the community
This end-to-end waste management model involves community participation in sorting and selling waste to the local government through the Banyumas Online Waste app (Salinmas) and the Jeknyong delivery service
I convinced the community that waste is a raw material that can generate revenue when given a technological touch,” Husein stated
He believes advanced recycling technology can yield useful products
organic waste is transformed into maggot feed and compost fertilizer
Husein expressed pride in the independent community-based waste management initiatives
“The turnover for these Community Self-Help Groups is quite substantial
sourced from customer contributions and the sale of processed waste products
an alumnus of the UGM Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM)
also shared his experience addressing waste management issues in Yogyakarta
His concern stemmed from the thousands of tons of waste generated daily in Yogyakarta
Sarifudin has converted household waste into raw industrial materials
mainly focusing on the potential of plastic waste as a sturdy and sustainable building material
“The waste processing here is highly complex due to the reluctance of the community to sort waste properly,” he explained
Recycle (TPS3R) Waste Processing Sites in various regions to collect and sort waste
The waste is then processed using mechanical equipment to obtain the raw materials needed to create industrial materials
and mold it into blocks or boards that can substitute for wood,” said the UGM Architecture graduate
a UGM Department of Chemical Engineering lecturer
emphasizing that waste issues in Indonesia are multidimensional
requiring cooperation across various sectors
this responsibility does not rest solely on the government but also requires equal commitment from all members of society
“Even community initiatives at the smallest level can be a solution to addressing waste management issues,” she concluded

to join in inspecting the scene of the incident (TKP)
Intang stated that further investigation is still needed to determine the cause of the broken glass bridge
the glass installed seemed to have a different color
the glass looks like it's been used because there are several holes
But this is only from observation and still needs to be proven," he said

Intang added that the bridge glass is only a single layer with a thickness of approximately 1.2 cm
I noticed that the glass installation was imprecise and not tidy
It was like it was just placed there without any stable support
That's my observation regarding the glass," he explained
Intang mentioned that the bridge construction appeared frail
"I also saw the supports seemed to use old scraps of iron
it seems that the construction is relatively rudimentary," he said
Visitors play mountain slide in the Limpakuwus Pine Forest
safety elements have not been given much attention at the tourist site
He explained that lessons could be learned from the glass bridge in China
as the glass thickness used there is 5.1 cm
Intang also reminded that the glass bridge attraction in the tourist spot is a public building because it is used by many people
there should be permits from the government and adequate feasibility tests
This bridge has no due diligence from related parties
Acting Regent of Banyumas Hanung Cahyo Saputro expressed condolences regarding the incident
He also requested similar places to be temporarily closed to prevent any accidents from happening
all potential tourist spots like this one are temporarily closed until they receive their functional certificates
They cannot be used until the functional certificate is issued," said Hanung

One of the exciting attractions here is seeing the making process of Nopia
Nopia is the name of a traditional Banyumas snack
It's easy to find nopia in various souvenir shops and even supermarkets
The process of making nopia is also unique
The skin dough is made from wheat flour and other mixed ingredients
While the contents of nopia are made of brown sugar mixed with other ingredients
The cooking method is still very traditional using a large clay stove to roast
The rounded nopia dough was pasted on the wall of the furnace
It's slightly savory on the outside and sweet on the inside
Very suitable for snacking with tea or coffee while watching television
the normal size is called nopia and the small size is called mini nopia or shortened to mino
The shape is the same as round like an egg that is not perfectly round
This egg-like shape makes nopia also known as ndog gludug or ndog bledeg
the filling of nopia becomes many variants
It is said that nopia was popularized by families of Chinese descent around the 1880s
Now the center for making nopia is in Kampoeng Nopia Mino which is in the Pekunden Tourism Village
we can see directly the process of making nopia
visitors can not only see the process of making nopia but there is also Oemah Gamelan
where visitors can also see firsthand the gamelan-making process
where visitors can find out how to plant and pick dragon fruit directly
visitors can of course learn how to make batik
and culinary delights that visitors can enjoy

The Banyumas Basin is a tertiary sedimentary basin located in southern Central Java
2-D seismic reflection methods cannot provide a good estimation of the sediment thickness and the subsurface geology structure in this area
the passive seismic tomography (PST) method was applied to image the 3-D subsurface Vp
We used 70 seismograph borehole stations with a recording duration of 177 days
368 S phases were used as input for tomographic inversion
400-meter deep exploration well (Jati-1) located within the seismic network were used to constrain the shallow crustal layer of the initial 1-D velocity model
The model resolution of the tomographic inversions was assessed using the checkerboard resolution test (CRT)
we were able to sharpen details of the geological structures within the basin from previous geological studies
and a fault could be well-imaged at a depth of 4 km
We interpreted this as the main dextral strike-slip fault that controls the pull apart process of the Banyumas Basin
We found prominent features of the velocity contrast that aligned very well with the boundary between the Halang and Rambatan formations as observed in the Jati-1 well data
which is a potential structural trap for the petroleum system in the Banyumas Basin
This was made possible due to the dense borehole seismographic stations which were deployed in the study area
Based on the sedimentary basin map of Indonesia (Indonesia Geology Agency, 2009)
there are at least 13 sedimentary basins on Java Island; eight of these are categorized as intermontane arc basins and are located in the southern part of Java Island
are covered by Paleogene to recent volcaniclastic sediments; the presence of volcaniclastics causes poor quality data in the 2-D seismic reflection method
which is used to determine the subvolcanic sediment
FIGURE 1. Map of the regional geological structure and the Banyumas Basin boundary (modified from the Geology Agency., 2009; Muchsin et al., 2002; Armandita et al., 2009; Satyana, 2015; Lunt et al., 2009; Hidayat et al., 2020)
the Citanduy Subbasin in the southwestern part of the anticline structure
which is aligned in a NW–SE direction
This has led to the growing popularity of PST for use as a method of hydrocarbon exploration
According to the checkshot data from the Jati-1 well
the Halang Formation has the most significant velocity contrast (around 9.4%)
which was deposited below the Halang Formation
Based on the velocity contrast of these two formations
we attempt to delineate the subsurface geological structure of our study area
FIGURE 2. (A) Regional geological map of the study area (modified from Budhitrisna, 1986; Supriatna et al., 1992; Kastowo, 1975; Simandjuntak and Surono, 1992; Djuri et al., 1996; Asikin et al., 1992) and (B) distribution of PST stations shown by red-colored inverted triangle
The result of travel time tomography inversion is expected to image the condition of the geological structures related to the generation of the pull apart basin
as well as the trapping mechanism for the petroleum system in this study area
FIGURE 3. Comparison of top 20 km regional 1-D velocity (Koulakov et al., 2007) and local 1-D velocity using Jati-1 well checkshot data to specify a layered model or a 3-D velocity model. Jati-1 well checkshot data give a more detailed velocity contrast on the shallow crust. We used 1.74 as initial Vp/Vs ratio value for tomography inversion. The complete 1-D initial velocity model which we used in this study is shown in Supplementary Table S1
and D–D′ which show a comparison of the initial synthetic velocity model of the checkerboard test and the results of its recovery
Based on these three resolution test methods
we conclude that the entire regions of our study area from both horizontal and vertical cross sections can still be well resolved
This resolved area will be further interpreted in relation to the geological structure identified from the cross sections
We expect to reveal the regional geological structures
strike-slip faults (such as the Gabon Fault
and the Karangbolong Fault) in our horizontal section
we expect to reveal the anticline structure that could be a potential structure trap for the Banyumas Basin
Horizontal view of recovery from ±10% initial checkerboard resolution tests for Vp and Vp/Vs ratio
Figure (A–D) are recovery of the Vp checkerboard test at 0–6 km depth
while figure (E–H) show recovery of the Vp/Vs checkerboard test at 0–6 km depth
Blue and red colors indicate positive and negative anomalies
Random noise with a 0.1 s standard deviation was added to the synthetic travel time
(A) The vertical cross section of a ±10% initial model checkerboard resolution test
and the recovery checkerboard resolution test of the Vp (B) and Vp/Vs ratio (C) for A–A′
Travel time tomography inversion results are presented in vertical and horizontal cross sections of the Vp structure
and in horizontal cross sections of Vs structure and Vp/Vs ratio
which will be covered in the following discussion
Horizontal cross sections will be presented in every 2 km
starting from 0 km (mean sea level)
while vertical cross sections will be presented on the sections passing through the Jati-1 well and oil seepage on the surface
The cross sections of A–A′ and D–D′ passed through the Jati-1 exploration well and oil seepage on the surface
while the cross sections of B–B′ and C–C’ passed through oil seepage on the surface
Vertical cross sections that passed through oil seepage and the Jati-1 well were further analyzed for interpretation in several geological structures that have potential as hydrocarbon traps
In this study, we also used the results of other geophysical studies such as the gravity anomaly map and 2-D seismic reflection sections (Tampubolon et al., 2014) to validate the vertical cross section of our seismic tomography results
The surface geology and the residual gravity anomaly map are used as validation for our horizontal cross sections
we tried to investigate the geological structure in the form of anticline
which can be an ideal structural trap for the Banyumas Basin petroleum system; however
detailed explanations related to lithological interpretations will not be presented in this article
which is comparable to the residual gravity anomaly
we can still delineate some similar geological features
which are shown in the horizontal Vp section at a depth of 2 km
It was seen that the velocity structure Vp has good compatibility with some geological features
which has a relative NW–SE orientation
and some lithological distribution patterns such as the outcrop of the Gabon Formation
which is characterized by a high-velocity anomaly in the southwest part of the study area
FIGURE 6. Previous studies available for the study area were used for comparison with our horizontal cross section results: (A) A residual gravity anomaly (modified from Hidayat et al., 2020), (B) the regional Miocene geological structure configuration of the southern part of Central Java (modified from Muchsin et al., 2002), and (C) the complete Bouger anomaly map (modified from Hidayat et al., 2020)
TABLE 1. Facies analysis based on Jati-1 well log data (Tampubolon et al., 2014)
Figure 8 shows the result of Vp/Vs ratio and the Vs structure. Compared to horizontal Vp structures, our results showed high Vp, Vs, and low Vp/Vs values were imaged at depths of 0–4 km around the Jati-1 exploration well region. We consider this region as the result of the Pliocene–Pleistocene tectonic compression (Pulunggono and Martodjojo, 1994) which formed an anticline structure and separated the Majenang and the Citanduy Subbasin
which were imaged at depths of 6 km around this Jati-1 exploration well region
might be an accumulation of Late Cretaceous–Eocene sediment
Horizontal sections Vp/Vs ratio and the Vs structure at (A) 0 km depth
and perturbation of Vs anomaly at (E) 0 km depth
Based on an anomaly contrast of Vp/Vs ratio at 2 and 4 km depth
we assume that Pamanukan–Cilacap strike-slip fault formed an echelon structure that controls the depocenter of the Banyumas Basin
FIGURE 9. Overlay of oil seepage data distribution and Jati-1 exploration well to the vertical section of the Vp, Vs, and Vp/Vs ratio based on travel time tomography inversion results around the PST network (modified from Junursyah et al., 2019)
We assume that the existence of this high Vp
and the low Vp/Vs value in this region (shown by the black dashed curve circle)
might be a possible reason why the Jati-1 well has not found any indication of liquid-bearing at a depth of 4400 m
Line A–A′ and D–D′ intersected Jati-1 well (shown by black-colored inverted triangle) with a target depth of 4
the Jati-1 well is directly above the anticline structure as shown by Vp and Vs vertical sections
Vp/Vs ratio shows a low anomaly region (<1.7)
FIGURE 11. The residual gravity anomaly response (Hidayat et al., 2020) and the vertical cross sections of Vp which pass through the Jati-1 well in sections A–A′, D–D′, B–B′, and C–C′. Blue line indicates geological contact between the Halang Formation and the Rambatan Formation, which is also confirmed by interpretation of Jati-1 well (Tampubolon et al., 2014)
We also interpreted top of basement based on the high-velocity anomaly (>5 km/s) which is shown by red line
The anticline structure was obtained at the intersection of the A–A′ and D–D′ cross sections
as well as the location of the Jati-1 well drilling
A similar structure was also obtained at the intersection of D–D′ and B–B′ cross sections
The anticline structure is expected to be a good trapping mechanism for the Banyumas Basin
The subsurface anticline pattern has the same pattern as the anticline trend that is exposed on the surface
forming an elongated pattern in a NW–SE direction
FIGURE 12. Directions along which the vertical tomographic sections have been compared to 2-D seismic reflection sections (Tampubolon et al., 2014)
In the southwest of cross-section X–X′
we found an outcrop of the volcanic Gabon Formation which was deposited during the Oligocene–Miocene period and is also the oldest rock outcrop in the study area
The high Vp and Vs anomaly at depth of 0 km (mean sea level) in the southwestern part of the X–X′ cross section is interpreted as an indication of the existence of these volcanic deposits
The Cipari anticline trend separates two low anomalies; the Citanduy Subbasin
The contrast of the velocity anomaly was found at both the X–X′ and the Y–Y’ cross sections at a depth of 1
which is interpreted as the geological contact between the Halang and the Rambatan formations
Our PST network consisted of 70 stations with three components that were installed in the Banyumas Basin
and covered 45 km × 60 km of the study area to perform a PST investigation of subvolcanic structures related to the petroleum system
We managed to determine 354 events with 9370 P-phases and 9368 S-phases as our input for the tomographic inversion
The application of a local 1-D velocity model
succeeded in specifying the presence of a more detailed geological structure in a shallow depth
We also assessed the resolution and reliability of our results using the checkerboard resolution test
the area within our network is still well resolved and reliable for interpretation
Application of the travel time tomography method by installing a dense seismograph station and a local 1-D velocity model using checkshot data can provide a satisfactory correlation with other geophysical methods and geologic structures related to the delineation of trapping mechanisms for the petroleum system in the Banyumas Basin
Based on the results of our tomographic inversion
we obtained geometries similar to geological structures in the form of fold structures with the top of the anticline found at the Jati-1 exploration well
The top of the anticline is interpreted as a subsurface image of the Cipari anticline trend confirmed by the regional geology map
The velocity contrast of the tomographic inversion results is interpreted as the geological contact between the Halang and Rambatan formations; this interpretation correlates with the results of the Jati-1 well interpretation
Mudstone from the Halang Formation can be a caprock for the Banyumas Basin petroleum system
with the anticline structure as a trap mechanism
Our tomographic inversion results are highly comparable with those of previous studies
Based on the comparison of the Vp horizontal cross section with the regional geological map in the study area
the high-velocity anomaly shows a comparable pattern with the distribution of volcanic rocks from the Gabon Formation in the southwest part of the study area
based on the comparison between the horizontal cross section and the residual gravity anomaly
the high-velocity anomaly with a NW–SE orientation is interpreted as a subsurface image of the Cipari anticline trend that separates the Citanduy Subbasin and the Majenang Subbasin at a depth of 2 km
Based on horizontal cross sections of the Vp/Vs ratio at depths of 2 and 4 km
we suggested that the Pamanukan–Cilacap strike-slip Fault likely formed an echelon structure that controlled depocenter in our study area
We assume this may be the possible reason why
the Jati-1 well has not found any rock formations older than the Middle Miocene–aged Pemali Formation
and it also explains why there are low gravity anomaly regions around Jati-1 well
Based on our Vp and Vs structure results at depths of 0 and 2 km the Pamanukan–Cilacap dextral strike-slip faults structure cannot be clearly delineated; this confirms that depths of 0–2 km are still dominated by sediment deposited after this fault structure was formed (Late Miocene–Quaternary)
This interpretation is validated by Jati-1 exploration well data
which show the presence of Late Miocene sedimentary rocks from the Rambatan Formation up to a depth of 2 km
The top basement of the Banyumas Basin was obtained from the results of vertical cross sections showing high P-wave velocity anomalies
which are greater than 5,000 m/s; characterized by red line in the vertical cross sections of Vp
From the resulting model of our vertical cross section
we estimate that the depth of the Banyumas Basin top basement has an average depth of around 8 km
Deposition of thick sedimentary rocks provides opportunities for the presence of petroleum systems in the Banyumas Basin
This study has succeeded in determining several zones of geological features which are potential structural traps of the petroleum system in the Banyumas Basin
although the type of stratigraphic traps in the form of reef and onlap cannot be resolved

Sepotong lirik lagu Tepuk Anak Soleh memicu polemik karena dikhawatirkan menumbuhkan sikap intoleran pada anak usia dini.
Lirik lagu "Islam Yes" versus "Kafir No" disikapi berbeda oleh berbagai kalangan.
Ketua Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama (FKUB) Kabupaten Banyumas
lirik "Kafir No" itu muncul beberapa bulan belakangan hingga memicu polemik
Apa pun agamanya," kata Roqib menjelaskan.

Indonesia — Some 400 members of the Bonokeling indigenous community of Central Java started a series of traditional ceremonies as part of an annual pilgrimage — a very public manifestation of their spirituality and long-standing traditions — that has endured over time
They walked a distance of around 25 miles (40 kilometers) — part of what locals call Perlon Unggahan Anak Putu Bonokeling — to Kiai Bonokeling’s grave in Banyumas Regency this past March to ask for blessings ahead of Ramadan
The indigenous community that took part in the traditional ceremony came from a number of places in Cilacap Regency
The patriarch’s gravesite is located in the village of Pekuncen
READ: Why Sikhs Celebrate The Festival Of Baisakhi
The community walks as part of a procession connected to the Perlon Unggahan traditional ceremony of welcoming the holy month of Ramadan in Banyumas in Central Java
This ritual — carried out to remember and pray for their ancestors — typically includes hundreds of people from different villages who travel to the Bonokeling cemetery complex
“This Perlon Unggahan is held once a year in the month of Sadran leading up to the fasting month
The descendants of Bonokeling from the Cilacap area came here
They visit here for friendship and grave’s visit,” said Kyai Sumitro
who serves as spokesman for the Bonokeling community
Sumitro said that in the Perlon Unggahan series of events
the Bonokeling’s indigenous people offered prayers to ask for safety in this world and the hereafter
"We pray for a safe world and the hereafter
hopefully we can carry out our worship in … Ramadan smoothly,” he said
Sumitro said that he hopes young people can continue to preserve and keep this tradition alive
it is hoped that young people will support
preserve and protect each other until the end of time,” he said
“Don’t let the ties that our predecessors made stop
and young people can follow the rules here.”
Hundreds of pilgrims left Cilacap at 3:30 a.m
and arrived in Pekuncen Village at around 4 p.m
The challenge is if your feet are injured or have cramps,” said one pilgrim who only identified himself as Purwadi
Purwadi said he has been involved in preserving this tradition since he was a teenager or after being circumcised when he was in junior high school
“This happens every year and has been a tradition since childhood,” he said
“We have followed this tradition from our great-grandfathers to continue to preserve it.”
Purwadi and others rested several times by stopping at a number of places
Sweat dripped down the faces of dozens of men who lined up in silence as they entered the traditional market at 10 a.m
After reaching an empty plot of land and putting down a pair of baskets covered with teak leaves which they carried from the house
they started to chat a little while taking shelter to unwind
several members began unpacking food in the form of white rice
then ate it alongside their traveling companions
a group of women from the Bonokeling descendants arrived at the market dressed in colorful kebayas and carrying bags made of jarik cloth
They also did the same thing as the group of men who had arrived earlier
Kliwon Market is an important stopping place for Bonokeling devotees
They lined up neatly along the road wearing traditional clothing
while the women were dressed in jarik (batik wraparounds) and kemben (breast cloths)
Most of the elderly men in the group made the journey barefoot on concrete and asphalt roads whose surfaces can get very hot
The Bonokeling tradition is a very rare ancient Javanese treasure
He is worried about the continuation of this tradition given that almost 80 percent of followers who embark on this tradition are elderly
The group of Bonokeling descendants from Cilacap had to rest several times before their luggage was carried by the residents of Pekuncen at the village border because of the difficult terrain they had to cover
Some of the female participants were forced to put wound cover between their toes because the long journey on hot roads left their feet injured
Provisions are the highlight of the days long journey
palm sugar and coconut — all neatly wrapped in teak leaves and put in a bamboo pole so that it was easy to carry uphill
“These weighs approximately 10 kilograms [22 pounds] divided into two containers,” Purwadi said
where the sea could be seen in the distance
relatives from Pekuncen Village were waiting to help carry supplies
Residents from outside Pekuncen Village were welcomed as guests when they attended the event which included
group prayers and the caring for ancestral graves
A big cookout involving butchering goats and dozens of chickens was carried out in celebration
those who take part said the hard work is an integral part of their beliefs
the existence of the Bonokeling indigenous community cannot be separated from the figure of Bonokeling
It is said that Bonokeling was a spiritual figure from the Duchy of Pasir Luhur (now the Karanglewas region in Banyumas)
This area was once part of the Padjadjaran Kingdom
Bonokeling's arrival to Pekuncen Village was in the context of opening up agricultural areas
the agricultural nuances are the main characteristic of the Bonokeling tradition
was originally held before the rice harvest season
congratulations and accompanying guests home
this procession was equated with the Sadran ritual
a tradition tied to visiting and cleaning the graves of ancestors before Ramadan

Jakarta - Several regional authorities have been reminded to intensify the monitoring for possible forest fires and droughts
Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMK) forecasts that this year's dry season will be drier
which is expected to hit its peak in July and August 2019
except where local rains continue to lash “the City of Rains”
"Regions which were affected by droughts during the June
should be vigilant this year," Adi Ripalsi
head of the agency's climate information analysis sub-unit
the precipitation during the dry season was less than 20 millimeters a month
He also reminded people living in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT)
and Sumatra to be vigilant due to the impact caused by droughts
The dry season is expected to reach its peak from August to September in these regions
"NTB and NTT are harvesting rainwater for farming and
this needs to be supported by irrigation water," he said
some 360 villages in 31 of the province’s 35 districts are prone to drought this year
Even as Central Java has begun to experience its dry season this June
eight villages in the Banyumas District have already begun facing a water crisis
eight villages are facing a clean water shortage
as precipitation in Banyumas has decreased," Ariono Poerwanto
acting head of the Banyumas disaster mitigation office
The drought-affected villages included Banjarparakan in Rawalo Sub-district
"And the latest ones are Tamansari Village in Karanglewas Sub-district
and Karangtalun Kidul in Purwojati," he added
He said his office has distributed clean water to those villages
The local disaster mitigation office is monitoring other villages to anticipate a water crisis there
One thousand water tanks have been prepared to send clean water to villages suffering from water shortages during the current dry season
he added.Regional drinking water company (PDAM) Tirta Satria in Banyumas district
has readied three tank trucks to distribute clean water
droughts caused water crises in the sub-districts of Sumpiuh
particularly PDAM subscribers living in drought-hit areas." he said
10 sub-districts are currently being hit by severe droughts
The ten affected sub-districts were Girisubo
head of the Gunung Kidul disaster mitigation office (BPBD)
said that "Of the ten drought-affected sub-districts
Girisubo and Rongkop are the worst affected ones
We have distributed clean water to those three sub-districts since June 1"
The Gunung Kidul has allocated a budget of Rp500 million for clean water supplies and deployed seven water tank trucks to deal with the water crisis during the dry season this year
Indonesia has only two seasons -- rain and dry
The dry season is usually between March to September
while the rainy season lasts from September to March
Hydro-meteorological disasters have over many years dominated natural disasters in Indonesia
which is often flooded during the rainy season and very dry
and remains extremely dry in certain regions during the dry season
Based upon data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBN)
with some 4.87 million people being affected
The drought hit 4,053 villages in 888 sub-districts located in 111 districts and cities in 11 provinces
the prolonged dry season triggered wildfires in forest areas located on the slopes of several mountains in Central
Among the mountains hit by wildfires in 2018 were Mount Merbabu
and Mount Sindoro in Central Java Province; Mount Argopuro and Mount Sadran in East Java Province; Mount Ciremai in West Java Province; and Mount Lawu located on the border of the provinces of Central and East Java
have managed to control and finally extinguish wildfires in a relatively short period of time

JAKARTA — Indonesian dancer Rianto moves gracefully in front of a crowd of thousands in the capital Jakarta
whipping his orange sash and in full make-up as he performs a centuries-old folk dance frowned upon by conservatives
the Indonesian cross-dressing folk art who is also founder of the Kendalisada Art Festival
The Lengger Lanang dance tradition is rooted in 16th-century fertility and harvest rituals from Central Java province.
It has since evolved into an art form that challenges rigid beliefs around masculinity in a deeply conservative and religious society
Lengger Lanang is performed by men dressed as Javanese princesses
colourful batik dresses and ornaments woven into their fake hair bun updos
But the tradition is close to disappearing in the Muslim-majority country
with fewer than 100 performers courageous enough to take part in shows
"Lengger is still looked down on and negatively stigmatised," 42-year-old dancer and choreographer Rianto told AFP
"People still see men dancing as going against the norm," said Mr Rianto
Backed by lively Javanese beats and melodies
flick their fingers and throw seductive glances at the audience in a Jakarta theatre
The performers crack jokes in deep baritone voices
"Lengger Lanang is where masculine and feminine meet inside one body and it is aimed to create peace within oneself," said Mr Rianto
Lengger was once a highly revered folk art where performers were idolised and respected as performers able to embody both genders
But it is being challenged as prejudice grows against anything perceived as queer-related
A 2018 movie about a Lengger Lanang dancer loosely based on Mr Rianto's life story received critical acclaim but was banned in several Indonesian cities after conservatives said it promoted homosexuality
In the Central Javan town of Banyumas where Lengger Lanang was born
an art festival held in September is one of the few places where the art form can be celebrated openly
The dance was once considered a sacred tradition in the town
"It was a post-harvest ritual to express gratitude to the goddess of fertility
later adapted into a form of entertainment
sometimes to welcome a grand guest," said Ms Lynda Susana Ayu Fatmawati
cultural researcher at Jenderal Soedirman University
in order to become a Lengger Lanang dancer
one must undergo several cleansing rituals such as fasting
and lay out flower petals and coconuts as offerings to God
Even though the dance is rooted in tradition
some conservative Muslims say men should not dress or act like women
it's clear that a man should not dress or act like a woman
It was condemned by the prophet," said Mr Taefur Arofat
that perception has made everyday life hard
The stigma from the public is very negative because dancing is associated with femininity," said Mr Rianto
Another dancer Torra Buana said he had to keep his dancing a secret
Some people viewed it as a negative thing," the 47-year-old said
"Only the chosen ones who have been blessed by God."
Not all Indonesians have a problem with the tradition
"It's art and we need to prevent it from disappearing," spectator Hendro Utomo said after the Jakarta show.
a centre where young dancers can practice and learn the philosophy behind the art.
One of the young prodigies is Ayi Nur Ringgo
who fell in love with the tradition after watching videos at university
he was forced to confront negative comments from classmates
"I have made peace with myself and my strength," he said
he and fellow dancers are working to keep the tradition alive
"I want to continue and regenerate this culture," said Mr Rianto

Indonesian police are still conducting a search operation for seven human infant skeletons buried at a former pond site in Central Java, Indonesia, as reported by the Liputan 6 newsportal
the seven infants were suspected of being the result of an incestuous relationship between a 57-year-old villager and his daughter
The suspect was identified as a resident of Tanjung Village and was accused of sleeping with his 25-year-old daughter since 2012
Banyumas Police Chief Agus Supriadi Siswanto added that it is possible that there is more than one suspect involved in the case after the suspect confessed that he had an illicit relationship with his daughter after being told to do so by a shaman
he met a shaman when he was working as a construction labourer in Klaten in 2011
The shaman told him that if he wanted to become rich
he had to have sex with his daughter seven times
At the time of arrest, the suspect is still poor, as observed by Kompas
at the moment Agus added that the police have sufficient evidence against the man as the main suspect in the case
The matter was brought to light when two cleaning staff found what appeared to be human remains on June 15 at the former pond site
The police have also concluded that the heinous act started from before the birth of the first child in 2013 right up to the seventh birth in 2021
there are still three infant bodies that he killed and buried at that location
This is in addition to the four infant skeletons we found between June 15 and 21
The police also revealed that the man was suspected of killing all the babies by suffocating them with a cloth over their noses until they died
there were five male babies and two female babies
The Banyumas Police Crime Investigation Unit excavated the pond area yesterday but has yet to find the remaining three infant skeletons
The third wife claimed that her husband had allegedly threatened to murder her if she had ever spoken to anyone about this issue
netizens from all walks of life have shared their thoughts and views on this disgusting turn of events
Twitter user @109celcius explained that this would mean that he first raped his daughter when she was a child at the age of 14
The dad first raped his daughter when she was 14
He continued raping her for 8-9 years AT LEAST
Having 7 babies means she was almost always pregnant
Other Twitter users called for this man to be castrated as punishment for his vile act
