The original article can be found in Orang Bontang dan Masyarakat Tanpa Sekat This old village on the coast of Bontang has now become one of the tourist destinations in Bontang City The pluralistic society of Bontang City, East Kalimantan does not create barriers that trigger social problems an attitude of mutual respect between citizens who consist of various tribes and ethnicities in Indonesia is always embedded in the activities of society That afternoon, Saturday (10/6/2023), Ahmad Sobirin (47), an online motorcycle taxi driver who is also a resident of Bontang Baru Village had just taken a number of passengers to several corners of Bontang City Greetings and smiles never escape his mouth and face when picking up and dropping off passengers It's not just about small talk or standard operating procedures (SOP) of work but it has become a bond of fellowship among Bontang citizens It's no wonder that in the relatively small town of Bontang to have the same customers on different days or occasions it's like if someone is having an argument with someone else live and mingle here," said Sobirin who has been living in Bontang for more than 15 years." without any excessive emotional outbursts or resulting in any major disturbances Residents train in the traditional sport of belogo in the Guntung Cultural Village Belogo is a traditional game or sport played in teams of three or individually This was agreed by Dede Solihin (34), a resident of Api-Api Village, North Bontang. This man from Garut, West Java, feels the beauty of harmony in the midst of differences Neighboring with residents of different ethnicities workers in the mining sector do not feel at all foreign because the relationships between residents are strong The solidarity of the community in helping each other is high in one of the social media groups of the community in Bontang when I mentioned that a mosque in my hometown (in Garut) needed funds for construction more than 15 million rupiahs were collected I was also surprised at the level of solidarity of the citizens," said Dede Also read: The Old Mosque of Bontang and Memories of the Meeting of Many Cultures According to the Chairman of the National Integration Forum (FPK) in Bontang City almost all ethnic groups in Indonesia are present in Bontang Even if they don't know each other's names at least they recognize each other's faces He always emphasizes that all Bontang residents are brothers and sisters there are at least 70 associations representing their respective regions which can also represent the regencies/cities in Indonesia that exist in Bontang there are also representatives from 55 ethnic groups in the management of the Bontang City Community Forum (FPK) They are always active in maintaining the peace and harmony of Bontang "The conflict usually starts with personal issues then it brings up ethnicity and even SARA (race we solve it by involving the head of the community organization We also emphasize that in Bontang there are no ethnic groups This old village on the Bontang coast was originally a fishing village mostly inhabited by Bugis people who came to Bontang The city of Bontang has a long history before it finally became the land inhabited by various ethnic groups like it is today in the book Bugis Diaspora Society in XX Century Bontang (2017) wrote that the arrival of the Bugis community from Sulawesi—without eliminating the role of other ethnic groups—was an important historical aspect in the development of Bontang City A definite record of when the Bugis people began migrating to the eastern coast of Kalimantan has yet to be found Juniar and his team estimate that there were several factors during different periods that led the Sulawesi community to migrate to the eastern coast of Kalimantan via the Makassar Strait Also read: Malahing Village in Bontang, from a Slum Village to a Tourist Village One of the things that can be traced is the various chaos that occurred in the social and political life in South Sulawesi during the VOC's attack on Makassar and the submission of Wajo in the 17th century the more beneficial Bonggaya Agreement was issued for the VOC the Bugis people who feel uncomfortable navigating the seas to the eastern part of Kalimantan resort to finding new sources of livelihood that they deem safer and more comfortable to reside in one of which is the coastal region that is currently the city of Bontang reside in the Guntung neighborhood of Bontang They are an example of a diverse family in the city of Bontang Juniar also wrote that a number of other important events contributed to the movement of people from Sulawesi and other areas to Bontang. From Juniar and team's research, what was most visible was in the 1970s during preparations for the initial operations of the PT Badak LNG and PT Pupuk Kaltim refineries The two companies certainly require a lot of manpower ranging from experts to construction workers this is also what attracts many migrants from various regions to Bontang Besides seeking employment in the two companies the migrants see an opportunity to trade and provide for the needs of the thousands of workers in the said companies One of them is Mustakim (63) from Karampuang Village He came to Bontang in 1978 and worked as a security guard at PT Pupuk Kaltim (Persero) There has been a cross-ethnic marriage between Mustakim and Hasbiah (56) - a descendant of Kutai living in the old village of Bontang Hasbiah and Mustakim have eight children and nine grandchildren both of them no longer mention their ethnic origin but they clearly state that they are Bontang people Their married children have also married people of different ethnicities such as from several regions in Sulawesi and descendants of Banjar from South Kalimantan "This particular future son-in-law is of Javanese descent It will make Indonesia more complete if they get married," said Hasbiah with a laugh The existence of PKT and PT Badak LNG in the 1970s attracted many migrants from various regions to Bontang to work and trade to meet the needs of workers in the state-owned company Mustakim feels that Bontang is a comfortable place to live he can socialize and collaborate well with people from various religious now he can enjoy various foods available in Bontang I felt that Mamak's homemade palumara was the most delicious in the village my wife's signature pindang is also enjoyable," said Mustakim Mustakim believes that the intermarriage between different ethnic groups in Bontang has contributed to the harmony in the city This allows the people of Sulawesi to have relatives from the Kutai tribe That is also what Juniar and his team observed in their research it has been found that many young people in Bontang Kuala (one of the old villages on the coast of Bontang) "They refer to themselves as Bontang people They recognize the daily culture as Bontang's culture which is more of a mixed diaspora culture of several ethnicities living in this settlement," wrote Juniar and team Eni has received the approval of the Indonesian authorities for the Plan of Development (POD) of the Geng North (North Ganal PSC) and Gehem (Rapak PSC) fields The Indonesian authorities have also approved the POD for Gendalo&Gandang fields (Ganal PSC) Eni has been awarded by the Indonesian authorities a 20-year extension of the IDD licenses named Ganal and Rapak Eni is therefore set to establish gas and condensates production of approximately 2 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) of gas and 80,000 barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil condensates in the East Kalimantan region The production is anticipated for domestic and international markets leveraging existing facilities in the area such as the Bontang LNG Plant and the Jangkrik Floating Production Unit (FPU) The Northern Hub POD envisages the development of the 5 trillion cubic feet (tcf) gas and 400 million barrels (mmbbls) of condensates of the Geng North discovery announced by Eni in October 2023 The hub also foresees the development of the 1.6 tcf of the Gehem discovery via subsea wells flowlines and a new built FPSO with a handling capacity of about 1 bcf/d of gas and 80,000 bbl/d of condensates and a storage capacity of 1 mmbbls Gas will be treated onboard the FPSO and then piped to the onshore receiving facilities at Santan Terminal and to the East Kalimantan pipeline network It will be partly liquefied at the Bontang LNG facility and partly piped for domestic market While the condensates production will be stabilized and stored onboard the FPSO Besides the approved Gendalo&Gandang POD anticipates the development of the cumulative 2 tcf of gas reserves in the Ganal PSC via subsea wells tied back to the Jangkrik FPU the development of Gendalo&Gendang will allow to extend Jangkrik’s gas production plateau along with the ongoing development of East Merakes and Maha fields result from the close strategic partnership between Eni and SKK Migas and will drive a major positive impact on local content while also increasing the utilization of the available capacity at Bontang LNG plant in addition to ensuring gas for domestic consumption Eni is also planning to conduct a drilling campaign in the next 4-5 years to assess near-field exploration potential within the Eni-operated blocks in the Kutei Basin amounting to over 30 tcf of gas and largely de-risked following the Geng North discovery “The approval of the Northern Hub and Gendalo&Gandang Plans of Development by the Indonesian Authorities marks a crucial milestone towards the FID of both gas projects in line with our decarbonization and energy security strategy,” said CEO of Eni Claudio Descalzi “The establishment of a new production hub in the Kutei Basin represents a game changer for Eni in Indonesia This is the result of a consistent strategy that combines our distinctive exploration skills with the acquisition of IDD and Neptune assets This grants us today a strong leadership in a world-class basin close to existing facilities and to very important markets,” descalzi continued “The strategic partnership with the Indonesian authorities has been pivotal to reaching these key milestones only a few months after the Geng North discovery and the completion of the IDD and Neptune acquisition processes,” he added Eni holds an 83,3% participating interest and operates the North Ganal Block – Geng North field with Agra Energi Pte Ltd as partner holding the remaining 16.7% Eni also holds 82% Participating Interest and operates the Ganal and Rapak Blocks with Tip Top as a partner holding the remaining 18% Doaa is a staff through a private-public partnership (PPP) said construction of the Bontang oil refinery is scheduled to commence in 2017 State-owned energy company Pertamina will be in charge of the project and is now searching for investors to participate in the project which is estimated to require a total of USD $14.5 billion in investment In order to see groundbreaking in 2017 Pertamina should manage to find an investor before October 2016 Indonesia's Finance Ministry will hire a team of international consultants to assist Pertamina finding the right partner The state-owned energy company will hold an auction to select the investor Given the large capital required (estimated at USD $14.5 billion) Pertamina cannot realize this project by itself given the low global oil prices it may be tough to find a partner The Indonesian government also announced it offers incentives to lure investors These incentives are the free use of existing infrastructure at the refinery site (hence reducing investment costs) there already exist adequate roads and ports in the area The government also assures that there will be no trouble related to the land certification process it offers a tax holiday to the investor (that can be extended up to 15 years) This Bontang oil refinery is one of the government's ten priority projects It is designed to have a production capacity of more than 235,000 barrels of petroleum per day Provided construction can commence in 2017 Due to increasing fuel demand in Indonesia output of the Bontang refinery will be consumed domestically Not only in Indonesia's upstream oil sector but also in the downstream sector there has been a lack of investment over the past decades hence resulting in an increasing amount of oil and fuel imports from abroad Indonesia's total oil refinery capacity (estimated slightly below one million barrels per day) is roughly the same as 15 years ago indicating that there has been limited progress in development of the downstream oil sector in Indonesia The country currently has six oil refineries Southeast Asia's largest economy is estimated to demand 2.6 million barrels of oil per by 2025 Indonesia is on track to become the world's largest fuel importer Some time ago it was reported that Japanese petroleum firm JX Nipon Oil and a Saudi Arabian-based investor named Syekh Said Al Husaini were interested in this project • coastal women and fishing families The group collects discarded crab shells that are typically thrown away on the beach after the meat is sold "We collect and process to reduce waste in our place of residence," said the 40-year-old woman Members of the Salona Shell Group are drying crab shells in Selambai it is common to see fishermen separating crabs and their shells The shells were immediately thrown from the fisherman's raised house onto the beach these shells became waste that piled up in several locations shell waste is collected and thoroughly cleaned The intense heat makes the drying process quick the shell of the spanner crab was taken to a production site located in one of the buildings belonging to PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur a company that accompanies Salona Shell Group in machine a process of removing most of the acetyl groups in chitin Various chemicals are used in this process From the lengthy process of more than nine hours The chitosan was then washed and turned into liquid through various chemical processes liquid chitosan can be packaged into bottles," said Ilham This liquid chitosan has many benefits when sprayed onto plants This is because it contains auxin which affects the growth in stem length liquid chitosan also contains gibberellin which is useful in promoting seed development Its function is to encourage cell division Members of the Salona Shell Group are packaging Salona chitosan liquid into bottles at the production facility in Kitosan Residences go through all the long and complicated process accompanied by Annisa Aprilya Putri assistant of the Cangkang Salona Group from the Community Development Officer Social and Environmental Responsibility Department of PT Pupuk Kaltim The woman fondly called April stated that the production of chitosan liquid fertilizer is currently only marketed in a limited manner to members of the group and their relatives Chitosan solution contains auxin which influences stem elongation Most of the chitosan production by residents is used for quality testing and product effectiveness to stimulate plant growth "This testing process involves several parties including the Biotechnology and Bioindustry Research Center Indonesia (LP-PBBI) testing laboratory and Mulawarman University (Unmul) in Samarinda," said April members of the group also conducted independent experiments The liquid chitosan they produced was sprayed onto several types of horticultural plants The method involved dissolving 5 milliliters of chitosan in 1 liter of water the solution was sprayed onto the leaves and branches of the plants twice a week residents felt that chili pepper plants grew faster and produced more fruit One of the reasons for this is that whiteflies which often infest the underside of chili pepper leaves were stunted in their growth after being sprayed with regular chitosan solution Also read: Bontang People and Society Without Borders Members of the Salona Shell Group sprayed Salona chitosan solution in Selambai Whitefly is a pest that often nests under chili leaves The fly often sucks up plant nutrients and triggers the growth of fungi This condition makes horticultural plants unable to bear fruit and hinder their growth "From the experiments conducted by this group of friends for several months chitosan was found to be able to inhibit pest growth while promoting growth and fertilization," said April the Salona Shell Group has recorded that they have been able to reduce around 920 kilograms of crab shell waste in their residential area This has been counted since they began producing chitosan throughout 2021-2022 they will register the product's circulation permit with the Ministry of Agriculture The process is targeted to be completed by early It implies that the project will more than double in length The distance between Balikpapan and Samarinda is around 99 kilometers from Samarinda further northeastwards to Bontang stretches across 116 kilometers The Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road is one of Indonesia's toll road projects designed to boost intra-island connectivity hence curtailing the country's high logistics costs improve the competitiveness of domestic businesses and make the investment climate more attractive In the period 2015-2019 the Indonesian government targets to build 1,000 kilometers of road approximately doubling the length of the nation's existing toll roads This is a very ambitious target that may not be achieved due to Indonesia's notorious land acquisition problems The Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road is one of the many infrastructure projects in Indonesia that had to be delayed due to these land acquisition problems construction of this toll road commenced in 2010 construction was halted for a period of five years as developers failed to purchase all required land After being inaugurated as Indonesia's seventh president in 2014 Widodo's push for infrastructure development is what gave new by 2018 and will cut travel time between both cities to about one hour (from nearly three hours currently) The request to add Bontang to the Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road stemmed from East Kalimantan See Original TEKS The following article was translated using both Microsoft Azure Open AI and Google Translation AI took place in one of PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur's (PKT) warehouses in Bontang Located in the “heart” of Indonesia, PT Pupuk East Kalimantan or PKT is at a strategic point to be more expansive in order to capture the urea market and ammonia in Asia Pacific The profit record for two consecutive years one of which is by building a soda ash factory the sun shone on a number of ships at the edge of the jetty at the PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur factory complex A giant loading machine or ship loader moved slowly toward the Vietnam-flagged cargo ship Ocean Bright A number of work supervisors maintain a safe distance a vertical funnel with a height of about 4 meters faces the body of the ship urea fertilizer came out in the form of bright white granules hitting the similar material that had previously piled up on the ship with a capacity of 4,271 gross tonnage (GT) Also read: Pupuk Kaltim Targets Asia-Pacific Market Domination depending on how much load (volume) the ship has the loading time also depends on weather conditions," said PKT Vice President of Process and Energy Management Mustanginah urea made from ammonia and carbon dioxide (CO2) was produced at five factories in the same complex three factories for the production of granule type of fertilizer and two other factories for the prill type The transportation of non-subsidized urea fertilizer took place at one of the warehouses belonging to PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) in Bontang PKT, a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) under PT Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company (PIHC), also owns five ammonia factories with 100 percent natural gas raw material. PKT produces a total of 3.43 million tons of urea and 2.74 million tons of ammonia per year. Both of them became the main PKT product. The production of NPK fertilizer reaches 350,000 tons per year. Mustanginah stated that 90 percent of the raw materials for urea and ammonia produced by PKT come from within the country. "Meanwhile, for NPK, the level of domestic components is around 30 percent. Because, Indonesia indeed does not have its own natural mines (phosphorus and potassium). So, it must be imported," he said. Around 40-50 percent of the fertilizer produced by PKT is used to fulfill domestic needs, while the rest is exported to several countries such as India, Vietnam, and Australia. In terms of allocation, as much as 40-50 percent of the fertilizer produced by PKT is used to meet domestic needs, both non-subsidized and subsidized. While the rest, especially granulated urea, is exported to a number of countries in Asia, including India, Vietnam and Australia. Of all company products under Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company, PKT product is more directed to exports because its price is considered more competitive for the export market. Meanwhile, the need for subsidized fertilizer distribution in the country will be fulfilled first by other subsidiaries of Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company. "For subsidies, we actually don't have a lot," said Mustanginah. In 2021, PKT recorded a profit of Rp 6.17 trillion, which at that time was the highest in the company's history. Then in 2022, PKT's profit jumped to Rp 14.5 trillion. This condition was not separated from the surge in commodity prices in the world, amidst the recovery of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the result of financial management of the company. President Director of PT Pupuk Kaltim Rahmad Pribadi gave an explanation during a discussion during a visit to the Kompas Daily Editor in Jakarta PKT President Director Rahmad Pribadi said in March 2023 that PKT was in the best momentum to grow. In 2023, PKT implements a growth strategy that aims to reduce production costs while increasing the quality and quantity of production and distributing it carefully. In the future, PKT targets to occupy the fourth largest urea producer position in the Asia Pacific region. By 2030, PKT also targets to control 6 percent of the urea market share, 20 percent of the ammonia market, and 2 percent of NPK in Southeast Asia. In addition to its main business, PKT also diversifies its business in the downstream petrochemical and renewable energy sectors. This step, among others, was taken by building an ammonium nitrate factory in Bontang with a capacity of around 75,000 tons per year. The factory has been completed and is in the commissioning stage. PKT is also building a soda ash factory in Bontang with a capacity of 300,000 tons per year. The factory is targeted for completion in 2026. Soda ash is a raw material component needed by a number of industries to make products, such as glass, ceramics, textiles, paper and batteries. When completed and operational, the soda ash plant will be the first in Indonesia. Currently, to meet domestic demand, Indonesia has to import around 1 million tonnes of soda ash per year. This step is also part of implementing circular economy practices considering that CO2 is one of the raw materials for soda ash. Thus, in addition to reducing imports of soda ash, more CO2 from factory emissions will also be absorbed. “This is part of decarbonization. Part of the CO2 is for urea production and the rest is for soda ash," said PKT Senior Process Engineer Rian Wishnu R. most of the offtakers (buyers) of soda ash were industries that needed glass The assessment was carried out before the factory was built the main distribution target for soda ashlater will be factories in the regions of West Java industrial salt (96-97 percent NaCl content) is one of the important raw materials for soda ash (BUMN) which has been producing food and industrial salt there is a symbiosis of mutualism," he said PKT also received a mandate from the government to carry out a national strategic project (PSN) in the form of a urea factory construction in Fakfak will have a capacity of 1.15 million tons of urea and 825,000 tons of ammonia per year PKT also received a mandate from the government to carry out a National Strategic Project (PSN) in the form of building a urea factory in Fakfak Executive Director of the ReforMiner Institute considers the development of several industries The leverage of abundant natural gas absorption in Indonesia can be optimized That is considered important because according to ReforMiner's report around 70 percent of domestic petrochemical needs must be fulfilled through imports including for the upstream oil and gas industry they can switch to petrochemicals," said Komaidi Urea prilling process using an automated machine was carried out at PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) factory in Bontang Komaidi uses the automotive industry as an example are produced by utilizing petrochemical raw materials This also applies to basic textile materials and household furniture If previously the refinery produced more fuel in the future it can be directed towards petrochemicals Natural gas can be further optimized as it is believed to be the primary choice in energy transition the emission from burning natural gas is lower by around 20 grams of CO2e/MJ compared to oil It is also lower by around 43 grams of CO2e/MJ when compared to coal and environmentally friendly growth with environmental and implementing an anti-bribery management system one of the visible efforts is the use of a solar power plant (PLTS) at PKT's main office in Bontang City solar panels can be seen covering a number of roofs in the company's operations Electric vehicles carrying employees can also be seen passing by PKT aims to reduce emissions by 9,000 tons of CO2 by 2030 PKT also mapped out several issues related to the community and the environment around the company This was then translated into a sustainable work program aimed at uplifting the local economy while maintaining a pristine and beneficial environment for the people The stock of urea at the Urea Bulk Storage of PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) in Bontang Read also: Urea Fertilizer Production at PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur One of the programs is the Community Forest which targets the planting of 10 million trees but the mangroves are also propagated by creating seedlings with the help of the community The program also supports government programs to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions This is important considering that Indonesia has targeted net zero emissions (NZE) in 2060 or sooner Social and Environmental Responsibility staff (TJSL) of PKT stated that another program is rehabilitating coral reefs that has been run for 10 years PKT collaborates with fishermen who previously used environmentally unfriendly fishing equipment PKT provides an understanding that the use of bombs damages coral reefs which serve as breeding grounds for fish in the sea fish will migrate to farther locations where the coral reefs are still intact This has a negative impact on fishermen as they have to search for fish further away and their fuel costs increase PKT has teamed up with fishermen to form 15 fishermen groups the fishermen have been invited to plant artificial coral reefs The process of monitoring and caring for the coral reefs is also carried out by the fishermen PKT accompanies the fishermen to obtain diving certification so that the monitoring process runs safely and according to standard Aerial photo of the PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) factory in Bontang fishermen are encouraged to cultivate fish in the cage This is also an indicator of environmental management by PKT in running the factory "If the fish there are healthy and able to live well it indicates that the environmental conditions PKT can quickly follow it up," said Anissha the ESG Rating Institution Morningstar Sustainalytics has given PKT a score of 21.3 This means that PKT is considered to have medium risk of experiencing material financial impact from ESG factors This score places PKT at the top position out of a total of 73 agrochemical companies worldwide The ESG Risk Rating itself measures PKT achievement through two assessment factors Exposure is defined as a company's vulnerability to ESG risk management refers to the actions taken by the company to overcome ESG problems Indonesia's Bontang liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant expects "less than five" uncommitted cargoes in 2016 an official from state energy company Pertamina said on Wednesday "We will continue to seek buyers," Badak NGL President Director Salis Aprilian told reporters adding that some of the uncommitted cargoes would likely be sold on midterm contracts and some on the spot market Bontang is expected to produce 147 standard cargoes of LNG in 2016 lower than this year's estimated production of 170 standard cargoes Indonesia is the world's eleventh largest gas producer and ships the super-cooled fuel from production hubs at Bontang and Tangguh to Japan Italian oil and gas giant Eni has made a new gas discovery in the Kutei Basin offshore Indonesia which comes with the potential to contribute substantially to the creation of a new production hub in the northern part of the basin the oil major believes that this could be connected to the Bontang LNG facilities on the coast of East Kalimantan further exploiting its available ullage capacity a “significant” gas discovery has been made in the Geng North-1 exploration well drilled in North Ganal PSC about 85 km off the coast of East Kalimantan in Indonesia The preliminary estimates indicate a total structure discovered volume of 5 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas in place with a content of condensate estimated up to 400 Mbbls The firm highlights that the acquired data will allow the study of the options for a fast-track development which was drilled to a depth of 5,025 meters in 1,947 meters water depth encountered a gas column about 50 m thick in a Miocene sandstone reservoir with excellent petrophysical properties that has been the subject of an extensive data acquisition campaign A well production test (DST) has been performed for a full assessment of the gas discovery and although limited by the test facilities it has allowed to estimate a well capacity of up to 80-100 mmscfd and about 5-6 kbbld of condensate The Italian player elaborates that more than 5 tcf of gas in place is estimated to be present in undeveloped discoveries within the area of interest – in addition to Geng North – while a significant multi-tcf exploration potential is under maturation through the ongoing studies with Neptune Energy North Ganal BV and Agra Energi I Pte Ltd as partners The company claims that the new discovery confirms the effectiveness of its strategy aimed at creating value through its knowledge of geological plays and the application of advanced geophysical technologies is in line with the Italian giant’s energy transition strategy to progressively shift its portfolio mix towards gas and LNG The company confirms that Indonesia and Southeast Asia in general play “a relevant role” in this strategy The Geng North discovery is adjacent to the Indonesia Deepwater Development (IDD) area that includes several stranded discoveries located within the Rapak and Ganal PSC blocks. Eni recently decided to acquire Chevron’s interests in these assets increasing its participating interest and acquiring the operatorship Significant synergies between the two areas are envisaged in terms of gas development options the acquisition also provides the opportunity to fast-track the development of the Gendalo and Gandang gas project (around 2 tcf of gas reserves) through Eni’s operated Jangkrik facilities The firm has been operating in Indonesia since 2001 and its portfolio of assets entails a current equity production of approximately 80,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from the Jangkrik and Merakes fields in East Kalimantan While the German operations will be carved out prior to the completion of this acquisition the Norwegian assets will be taken over by the oil major’s majority-owned Vår Energi These deals come with an aggregate enterprise value of $4.9 billion Eni has also been busy bringing new projects online. At the end of August 2023, the Italian giant started production from an oil and gas field offshore Côte d’Ivoire less than two years after the discovery in September 2021 and less than a year and a half after the final investment decision (FID) was made The Pioneers of Offshore Engineering GustoMSC part of NOV’s Marine and Construction business is recognized for providing advanced design & engineering consultancy for mobile offshore units and reliable equipment and technical knowledge into realistic & innovative ideas The performance of new and existing jack-ups is Indonesia's most prolific gas production hub more than 7 tcf have been extracted from five fields in the 2,089-sq-km Mahakam production sharing contract (PSC) area which extends north and east from the Mahakam River delta to water depths of 80 m is constantly striving to raise production to meet growing demand from the Bontang LNG terminal Current expansion work is focused on the giant Tunu and Peciko fields with Nubi and Sisi to the east next in line for development Japan's Inpex originally operated the Mahakam area was developed initially in 1974 through a floating production facility soon superseded by a complex of three platforms with crude piped a short distance westward to a terminal at Senipah which extends over 40 sq km among swamps at the edge of the river delta Reserves are produced via deviated wells drilled from swamp barges along the banks of the islands Combined output of crude from the two fields peaked at 230,000 b/d in 1977 and gas injection (100 MMcf/d currently at Handil) slowed the subsequent tail-off Handil's oil production is down to 13,000 b/d with over 90% of accessible reserves having been recovered associated gas from the two fields was also produced representing the partners' first deliveries to the Bontang natural gas liquefaction (NGL) plant it is the world's largest LNG processing operation with eight trains and production capacity of 22.5 million tons/year All the gas is sourced from local fields operated by Total and all commingled output is shipped to Japanese Total has also been a shareholder in PT Badak NGLC and it has provided technical assistance over the years for Bontang's several expansion phases an onshore field in the central swamp section of the river delta associated gas was also delivered under a joint development with Tunu stretching 80 km from north to south in shallow waters (swamp area) along the outer limits of the delta Tunu is a gas/condensate field containing only negligible CO2 or H2S with the main productive reservoirs lying at depths from 2,200 to 4,900 m Recoverable reserves are estimated at 16.5 tcf Under the first-phase plan of the late 1980s gas from Tunu and Tambora was collected by gathering and testing satellite installations (GTSs) in only a few feet of water The wellstream was sent to a central processing unit (CPU-1) at Tambora which has a processing capacity of 350 MMcf/d and the gas is compressed before being exported to Bontang via Badak production steadily ramped up through five new development phases The main elements of this program included: the partners launched a seventh phase to improve operation of depleting wells on South Tunu Just after the new plant became operational in late 2000 applying a similar range of facilities to Tunu North a new mid-pressure compression plant (NCP) has been installed close to the NPU with a manifold platform and surface pipeline network also added to address existing production/transportation bottlenecks allows the entire Tambora/Tunu gas network to produce at medium pressure – 38 bar – and will increase deliverability by 300 MMcf/d over the next two years involving the addition of a new GTS in both the north and south of the field This will bring the total of satellite installations across the field to 20 an average of 10 wells spaced in a regular pattern and all capable of producing up to 200 MMcf/d and exploration wells have been drilled on Tunu The latest batch of wells is being drilled by PT Apexindo Pratama Duta using its newly built swamp barges Raissa and Yani and four other existing barges – the Maera and Raisis the PT Hitek Schlumberger-operated Hibiscus "We also operate a continuous program of workovers and well tests," a Total spokesman says "One challenge we face is that the area around Tunu/Tambora is environmentally sensitive The entire delta is also covered by mangroves and some agricultural groups interfere with our operations Total has therefore initiated a number of socio-economic actions in the Mahakam delta including installing pilot shrimp farms in the area." A 10th development phase is already being planned that will include reduced well spacing and an extension of certain GTSs for infill drilling through installation of additional well slots "we will implement a scheme involving low compression facilities We see production from Tunu extending well beyond 2017." situated southwest of Bekapai in the Makassar Straits coincided with construction of Bontang's eighth liquefaction train to fulfill new LNG commitments to Taiwan but not fully delineated until the following decade The field extends 20 km in a northeast to southwest trend Unlike the other fields in the Mahakam PSC it features both structural and stratigraphic gas traps Peciko's main reservoir sequence occurs at a depth of 2,100-3,900 m and is characterized by fine- to medium-grained sands spread out among shale and siltstone deposits Recoverable reserves are estimated at 6.2 tcf of gas Phase I of Peciko came onstream in December 1999 This scheme was based on two unmanned 12-slot manifold wellhead platforms (MWP A and B) in the center of the field; two 24-in pipelines from the platforms to the shore; and the newly-built Peciko Process Area plant at Senipah There is no treatment of well effluent offshore and diphasic production is sent onshore for processing Up to 1 bcf/d of processed gas is exported through a 42-in A telemetry link controls both platforms from the shore while remotely-operated chokes from Senipah adjust the production rate Peciko's condensate (produced at up to 25,000 b/d) is mixed with Tunu's condensate before being stabilized and subsequently shipped mainly to the spot market in Japan and to Indonesia refineries added a third manifold wellhead platform (MWP) and a new 20-in trunkline linking this installation to MWP B Twelve new developments wells were drilled – six from MWP C and six from MWP A and B – allowing plateau production to be sustained through mid-2003 based primarily on a new single wellhead platform SWPG again in the north-central part of the field Six development wells are being drilled from this installation A new gas processing train is also being added to Senipah to raise capacity from 1,000 to 1,500 MMcf/d basic design has been performed by Doris Engineering Local fabricator PT Gunu Nasa has built all the Peciko platforms at its yard in West Java These measures should boost potential from Peciko to 1.25 bcf/d by 2005 Two new platforms will be installed in the northeast and east of the field each probably with three to six initial development wells "we may drill more wells from the existing platforms if we are successful in our delineation drilling in the northeast followed by introduction of medium pressure compression but that number has come down to seven following analysis of production Peciko wells produce on average 50-60 MMcf/d." East of Tunu lie the smaller Sisi and Nubi gas discoveries "We don't need them yet to fulfill our long-term commitments," the spokesman says "but we are aiming for start-up on these fields in 2006." The development plan will be fairly similar to Peciko's although the reservoirs are more compartmentalized Gas will be exported to Tunu via unmanned welhead platforms we also aim to raise gas production through developing very low permeability reservoirs in 2006 We have already drilled three such wells on the Tambora field quite successfully we have recently installed Indonesia's first pilot air injection scheme following implementation of low pressure compression on Tunu and Peciko smaller fields in the south of the PSC area will also be exploited Total and Inpex have invested over $1 billion/year in Mahakam projects over the past few years have been reduced from $2/boe in 1992 to $1/boe currently despite the fact that Tunu in particular has a huge network of pipelines and GTSs that have to be maintained The Mahakam PSC produces up to 560,000 boe/d and provides 60% of Bontang's input Indonesia as a whole generates 90% of Total's total SEC production across Southeast Asia and 7% of its global output The Mahakam PSC's gas reserves are estimated at 31 tcf Indonesia is home to abundant natural energy resources This energy abundance has certainly helped the country in becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing economies It is hard to ignore that energy is a basic need and without it, we would be unable to function properly Energy can come from fossil fuels such as coal But there are also renewable energy sources Being a nation that is still highly dependent on fossil fuels Indonesia’s growing population and its continuously rising energy demand have put a strain on its declining reserves.  there is one energy source that is still witnessing a surplus This energy source is relatively clean because it does not emit soot while generating 30 percent less carbon dioxide (CO2) than fuel oil and 50 percent less than coal It is none other than liquefied natural gas (LNG).  LNG is a colorless and odorless liquid fuel which offers energy efficiency and strong environmental performance that can give a much-needed boost to the air quality in cities like Jakarta.  LNG is created over millions of years from the transformation of organic matter such as plankton and algae Creating LNG involves cooling natural gas down to -162 degrees Celsius The process of cooling natural gas into a liquid state shrinks its volume as it occupies 600 times less space compared to its gaseous form and also weighs less than water This makes LNG easier and cheaper to transport or store. In archipelagic countries like Indonesia LNG enables the transport of gas over distances to markets where pipeline delivery is not possible or uneconomical.  Indonesia currently has three LNG plants in operation: Bontang The country also plans to devop an LNG plant in Masela the Bontang LNG plant consists of eight trains and is operated by LNG company Badak Natural Gas Liquefaction The plant's total capacity stands at 22.6 million mt/year It started with the discovery of a giant natural gas reserve at Badak Field This was just one year after a similar discovery at North Aceh's Arun Gas Field which has now become a regasification terminal.  The Bontang LNG plant came into operation in 1977 with train A producing Indonesia’s first drop of LNG This resulted in a dispatch of a maiden LNG cargo to Senboku Japan via the LNG Aquarius on August 9 Bontang LNG has become one of the world’s largest LNG plants Chevron’s Indonesia Deepwater Development (IDD) Project - Offshore Bangka Field Development will also boost the production coming from East Kalimantan.  Eni and Nusantara Regas are among the firms that have supply offtakes from Bontang The plant also has Japanese buyers —namely Jera and Nippon Steel— under long-term supply contracts with Pertamina The Tangguh LNG is a development of six gas fields located in the Wiriagar and Muturi Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) in Bintuni Bay Its discovery of gas reserves came decades after that of Bontang specifically in the mid-1990s by Atlantic Richfield Co (ARCO) Tangguh LNG is entirely operated and owned by BP Berau Ltd Comprising both onshore and offshore production facilities Tangguh LNG kicked off its production in 2009 It has already shipped up to 1,300 LNG cargoes in Indonesia and Asia Tangguh LNG is working on expanding its plant with a third train or Train 3 The government has named the Tangguh LNG's Train 3 as one of its national strategic projects Tangguh LNG’s two existing trains produce 7.6 million tons per annum (MTPA) Train 3 is expected to add 3.8 million tons of LNG capacity per annum bringing the plant's total capacity to 11.4 MTPA BP Berau Ltd began supplying LNG for the domestic market in 2013.  Indonesia's third LNG facility —the Donggi-Senoro LNG (DSLNG) plant—sits in Banggai Regency This LNG facility is a joint venture between Pertamina DSLNG is Indonesia's first LNG project to adopt a downstream business model based on Law No. 22/2001 on Petroleum and Natural Gas which separates the development of upstream and downstream LNG businesses.  A downstream LNG development model shifts the investment and any risks associated with the development of the LNG plant from the government to the downstream company DSLNG purchases natural gas from Pertamina EP (Matindok Area) and PHE Tomori Sulawesi and Tomori E&P Limited (UK) (Senoro Field) as feedstock gas for the DSLNG-owned liquefaction plant The gas then cools down and converts into LNG It will then be stored and loaded onto LNG cargoes to be later taken to its buyers.  DSLNG is able to deliver 36 cargoes of LNG per year DSLNG has formed term commitments with Chubu Electric then the cargo will be available for the spot market.  The Abadi LNG Project is an onshore LNG project located in the province of Maluku This project is expected to jumpstart in 2027. INPEX serves as the operator alongside Shell in the development of the Masela Block offshore Indonesia Masela is predicted to produce 9.5 million tons of LNG per year The project will supply 150 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day by pipeline Following the approval of the revised development plan and the extension of the PSC by another 7 years With three operating LNG facilities and another one about to take off in the late 2020s Indonesia has been maximizing its use of LNG for both domestic use and export This is in a bid to not only meet the local LNG demand but aso boost the state revenue and provide job opportunities to those in need whilst giving them a stable source of income and enhancing their purchasing power.  has created over 1.5 million jobs and will add another 2 million until the end of its PSC in 2035 BP Tangguh will likely extend its contract giving another boost to the economy.  Indonesia’s state budget derives from tax and other non-tax revenues in both oil & gas and non-oil & gas sectors we have to be able to optimize our oil and gas lifting through better climate investments and handle cost recovery Indonesia's total revenue from LNG exports between 2015 and 2021 has dropped by -6.31 percent This decline was in large part due to the Covid-19 pandemic which had affected production in 2020 and 2021 In the present time and the foreseeable future LNG is regarded as clean energy that Indonesia must capitalize on during its transition from fossil fuels to renewables LNG has a bright prospect and is expected to be used in the many decades to come before we reach our net-zero emission target by 2060 Access to LNG can also help lift people out of poverty and ensure access to modern and reliable Pertamina Salis Aprilian said the imports would cover shortage in domestic supply after 2020 Indonesia is one of the world's largest producers of LNG but its most of its production is for export under long term contracts "Imports are needed to meet fast growing domestic requirement," Salis said on Tuesday He said domestic requirement grows 5 percent per year while production is almost stagnant He said he could not give figure for import from Mozambique but including imports from its neighboring country total imports from Africa would reach 1.5 million tons a year "With the addition of 1.5 million tons we will have additional supply of 3 million tons a year after 2020," he said Pertamina already signed two 20-year contracts to import a total of 1.52 million tons of LNG annually starting 2018-2019 from Cheniere Energy Inc The first contract was signed on December 4 The LNG would be shipped with Pertaminas tankers to feed 5 units of Pertamins LNG terminals The five terminals include three floating storage and regasification units (FSRU) off Jakarta and Cilacap; and two onshore terminals -- Arun in Aceh and Bojanegara in Banten domestic gas consumption is estimated at 3,000 Denmark that has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two Indonesian state-owned enterprises (SOEs) — fertiliser producer Pupuk Kaltim and energy group Pertamina — to develop an ammonia facility in the city of Bontang powered by next-generation modular nuclear reactors It will have a million-tonne capacity per year making it one of the biggest low-carbon ammonia projects proposed to-date Ammonia is a compound of hydrogen and nitrogen atoms. While traditional or ‘grey’ ammonia plants are powered by coal and use natural gas as the main input, the Bontang plant is part of a growing pipeline of projects aiming to produce low-carbon hydrogen to convert into low-carbon ammonia for use as shipping fuel or None of the 46 low-carbon ammonia projects tracked by fDi Markets since July 2020 involve nuclear power.  Based on Copenhagen Atomics’s work to-date its co-founder Thomas Jam Pedersen expects the plant to be able to produce the world’s cheapest low-carbon ammonia “I believe that with this plant in Indonesia we can get the price of ammonia down to $500 per tonne,” he says That compares to $720–1400 per tonne for wind or solar-generated ammonia in 2020 according to the International Renewable Energy Agency While nuclear power’s environmental risk-profile is different to traditional ‘green’ power sources such as solar and wind it is a low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels The project’s expected cost-competitiveness is due in large part to the efficiencies of Copenhagen Atomics’ next-generation reactors Mr Jam Pedersen says these will be able to get 100 times more energy out of every tonne of mined materials than classic reactors “No other reactors in the world can do that,” he adds the Bontang plant will need 850 kilograms of thorium as fuel per year Traditional reactors would need 10 tonnes of enriched uranium — or 100 tonnes of uranium ore — to produce the same one million tonnes of ammonia each year Further reading on green hydrogen and ammonia: Wave of mega projects mounts in 2022 Green Hydrogen's moment in the sun UK heads global renewables FDI league table Copenhagen Atomics’ technology is yet to be rolled out The Bontang plant is its most advanced project commits the parties to six months of investigations to ensure regulatory approval can be obtained to construct reactors on the site and provide the SOE with a more accurate price for the ammonia The goal is to start bringing the facility online in 2028.  The parties are yet to agree on how the project will be financed but Mr Jam Pedersen said there is a “loose expectation” that roughly half the money will come from Pupuk and the Indonesian government and the other half from international investors.  But Mr Jam Pedersen believes the backing of two Indonesian SOEs gives the Bontang plant a strong shot at success.  “We have some great partners which have the economic strength to move this process forward,” he says Pupuk is already a customer of two other firms in the Danish consortium — heat exchange specialist Alfa Laval and electrolyser developer Topsoe The final Danish partner is thermal energy supplier Aalborg Do you want more FDI stories delivered directly to your inbox? A country’s EEZ extends 200 nautical miles beyond its coastlines and provides it certain resource rights to the waters there – hence the sensitivity of a foreign nation conducting a survey in such an area But Bakamla officials have been saying that they have very limited resources and are poorly equipped with just 10 ships and no aircraft Ahmad Syamsudin in Jakarta contributed to this report by BenarNews The Indonesian authorities have approved Eni’s plan of development (POD) for the Geng North (North Ganal PSC) and Gehem (Rapak PSC) fields in the offshore Kutei basin This will be an integrated development of the two fields featuring a new offshore production complex known as the Northern Hub the authorities have approved the POD for subsea tiebacks of the Gendalo and Gandang fields in the Ganal PSC and they have granted Eni a 20-year extension for the IDD licenses named Ganal and Rapak The development will establish new gas and condensates production of 2 Bcf/d and 80,000 bbl/d in the East Kalimantan region which will draw on existing facilities in the area such as the Jangkrik FPU and the onshore Bontang LNG plant The Northern Hub POD development involves the 5 Tcf of gas and 400 MMbbl of condensates of the Geng North discovery announced by Eni in October 2023 and 1.6 Tcf from the nearby Gehem discovery via subsea wells This will have a capacity to handle about 1 Bcf/d of gas and 80,000 bbl/d of condensates the gas will head through a pipeline to the onshore reception facilities at Santan Terminal and to the East Kalimantan pipeline network It will be part-liquefied at Bontang LNG facility with some of the volumes piped onward to the domestic market Produced condensates production will be stabilized and stored onboard the FPSO this calls for development of 2 Tcf of gas reserves in the Ganal PSC through subsea wells tied back to the Jangkrik FPU extending the vessel’s near-750 MMcf/d gas production plateau by at least 15 years Eni started gas production from the deepwater Jangkrik Complex project in the Muara Bakau block in 2017 Currently, Eni continues its developments of the offshore East Merakes and Maha fields the company plans a new a drilling campaign to investigate the near-field exploration potential across its operated blocks in the Kutei basin which it assesses as more than 30 Tcf of gas following the Geng North discovery “The establishment of a new production hub in the Kutei basin represents a game changer for Eni in Indonesia This is the result of a consistent strategy that combines our distinctive exploration skills with the acquisition of IDD and Neptune assets… “The strategic partnership with the Indonesian authorities has been pivotal to reaching these key milestones only a few months after the Geng North discovery and the completion of the IDD and Neptune acquisition processes.” Eni has a 83.3% controlling interest in the North Ganal Block – Geng North field with Agra Energi holding the remaining 16.7% Eni has an 82% operating interest in the Ganal and Rapak blocks Also known as the International Workers’ Day and Labour Day it is a day that commemorates the working class of the world with workers and laborers alike uniting together to voice their rights towards both the government and their employers When talking about the working class and football together in a single context one might imagine almost immediately the concept of “works team.” Works team are sport teams that are founded and operated by manufacturers and other businesses often utilizing the working force as their members the concept of works team is quite familiar within the continent’s footballing history with some of Asia’s biggest teams being able to trace their roots to smaller works teams that eventually grew into Asian giants over time and Nagoya Grampus were former works teams while Honda FC of the fourth tier Japan Football League have resisted professionalism to retain their identity as being the works team of Honda Motor Company South Korea have a plethora of works teams playing in the league’s semi-professional leagues Gyeongju Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (Gyeongju KNHP) and the now-defunct Ulsan Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Dolphin Indian works team have played in the I-League when the I-League adopts a more professional licensing system Oil and Natural Gas Corporation FC (ONGC FC) and Jagatjit Cotton and Textile FC (JCT FC) the works team concept is also quite common there were two Indonesian football leagues – the amateur Perserikatan that features teams backed by local governments which includes an assortment of semi-professional teams Notable Indonesian works teams include Warna Agung (representing the Warna Agung paint company) Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian (representing the Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motor Company Pardedetex Medan (representing the Pardedetex textile company) Petrokimia Putra (representing the Petrokimia fertilizer company) Semen Padang (representing the Semen Padang cement company) Pupuk Kaltim (representing the Pupuk Kaltim fertilizer company) Pupuk Kaltim were a force during the twilight years of the Galatama finishing as the competition’s runners-up in the 1991/92 and 1992/93 seasons The Laskar Bukit Tursina kept playing their best brand of football once the Perserikatan and Galatama were merged together into the new Indonesian top flight In the first season of the newly unified league Pupuk Kaltim went all the way to the semifinals where they were defeated by fellow Galatama alumni Petrokimia Putra Pupuk Kaltim soon established themselves as East Kalimantan’s top representative in the Indonesian top flight being undeterred by the Asian economic crisis of the late 90s that saw many of their former Galatama opponents withdrawing from the league and being disbanded altogether Pupuk Kaltim’s greatest moment came in the 1999/2000 season where they finished runners-up to the league after losing 3-2 at the hands of PSM Makassar This earned Pupuk Kaltim an appearance in the 2000/01 AFC Asian Cup Winners’ Cup being the first (and so far only) team from Kalimantan to have made a bow in continental competitions Pupuk Kaltim did not last long in the competition though being eliminated 5-1 on aggregate by Thailand’s BEC Tero Sasana (now Police Tero) One of the secrets behind Pupuk Kaltim’s success in the late 90s and early 2000s was the Diklat Mandau PT Pupuk Kaltim as the team’s benefactor decided to establish a football academy in Bontang a number of the academy’s alumni subsequently made a name for themselves whilst playing for Pupuk Kaltim before going on to bigger career opportunities and even representing the Indonesia national team and even present-day players such as Persib Bandung’s Beni Oktavianto and Persija Jakarta’s Sandi Darma Sute Pupuk Kaltim changed their name into PKT Bontang a name that represents both PT Pupuk Kaltim as the team’s owners and Bontang as the city that the team was based at with the rise of Persiba Balikpapan effectively taking away their title of being top dogs of both East Kalimantan and Kalimantan in general In the buildup to the formation of the 2008/09 Indonesia Super League the newly refurbished top flight of Indonesian football PKT Bontang received a free pass to the new league even though they’ve finished outside the required positions for qualification into the league after both Persmin Minahasa and Persiter Ternate failed to qualify to the ISL due to administrative and infrastructural issues This meant that both PKT Bontang and PSIS Semarang received free passes to the ISL in Persmin and Persiter’s stead after they were deemed worthy enough for qualification in terms of off-field matters The Laskar Bukit Tursina finished 13th in the inaugural ISL season and this would prove to be the last season that the team had with PT Pupuk Kaltim PT Pupuk Kaltim decided to hand over the ownership of PKT Bontang to the Bontang city government effectively ending PKT Bontang’s status as a works team as the era of professionalism made itself known in Indonesian football As the city government seeks investors to take over the team the newly re-branded Bontang FC suffered financial shortages which affected their on-field performances Although Bontang FC finished 11th in the 2009/10 ISL season they were relegated out of the league in 2010/11 losing the relegation play-offs against Persidafon Dafonsoro 2011/12 saw Indonesian football being split in half as the ISL existed alongside the Indonesian Premier League which was formed due to the conflict within the Indonesian FA (PSSI) Bontang FC received a second chance of top flight football however they did not fare well in the new league and were even implicated in a match-fixing scandal in 2013 which effectively spelled the end of the road for Bontang FC The Laskar Bukit Tursina were banished to the lowest tier of Indonesian football by the PSSI and having being absent in the 2014 edition of the Liga Nusantara (then the lowest tier within the Indonesian football pyramid) Bontang FC effectively went into a deep slumber once FIFA suspended Indonesian football in 2015 2016 saw Bontang FC being revived by a number of people who are motivated in returning the club back into its glory days Bontang FC went all the way to the final of the East Kalimantan section of the 2016 ISC Liga Nusantara the unofficial lowest tier of Indonesian football where they were defeated by Persikutim East Kutai 2017 saw Bontang FC remaining in the lowest tier of Indonesian football the Laskar Bukit Tursina are yet to replicate the heights of their golden era failing to advance out of the Liga 3 East Kalimantan in both 2017 and 2018 before being absent completely in 2019 due to financial shortages During their announcement of sitting out the 2019 Liga 3 East Kalimantan the Bontang FC management hinted at a return in 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic meant that Bontang FC’s return to the Liga 3 remained uncertain after all three tiers of Indonesian football were suspended three teams have stepped into their place of being East Kalimantan’s representatives in the Indonesian top flight – Persiba Balikpapan Following Persiba Balikpapan and Mitra Kukar’s relegation to the Liga 2 in 2017 and 2018 respectively Borneo FC became the sole representative of East Kalimantan in the Liga 1 fans within the region and also Indonesia would look back  and remember quite fondly of Bontang FC’s exploits in the top flight a once mighty works team that was undermined by league dualism Let’s hope that Bontang FC would make their return to the big time and make their region proud once again.
