INDRAMAYU REGENCY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin reviewed the impact of tidal flooding that occurred on the coast of Eretan
The tidal floods that have hit the area for the past few days have inundated a number of villages
the flood was still inundating the area with an average height of around 50 cm
But usually the high tide that overflows is only about 10-20 cm
But the past few days the water level has been quite high
Bey also revealed a number of things that his party would try
This requires joint handling by various policy makers from the central
so first we will try to normalize the river
and relocate residents in stages," said Bey Machmudin while reviewing the impact of tidal floods and revitalizing the Fish Auction Place (TPI) in Eretan Kulon Village
"This must be done together by the central
We will address it gradually," he said
Bey also revealed the condition of the tidal flood that continues to ebb and flow
for river normalization and embankment construction
further coordination will be carried out with the River Basin Center (BBWS)
This is important so that the embankment construction can be carried out immediately in 2025
1.5 hectares of land has been made available in an area far from the impact of tidal flooding
from the national housing development program for fishermen's families which can accommodate 93 families
fishermen will also be given training for a better life
including running micro-scale businesses and MSMEs
a number of fishermen conveyed their aspirations to Bey Machmudin
namely a request for an additional quota of subsidized diesel fuel for fishermen
"The request for subsidized fuel for fishermen is certainly reasonable
I will coordinate with Pertamina/BPH Migas
(the addition of subsidized fuel quota for fishermen) is proposed to be increased," he said

TEKS DOKUMENTASI DIDI UNTUK KOMPASA group of farmers held a motorcycle race on a dried out rice field in Karanganyar Village
The activity was a symbol of protest against the difficulty of obtaining water to irrigate the fields
more than 700 hectares of rice fields in Indramayu are affected by drought
INDRAMAYU, KOMPAS — Hundreds of hectares of rice fields in Indramayu Regency, West Java, were affected by drought in the second planting season
The number is predicted to increase because the drought could continue
Rice production in the food barn is also threatened to decline
"The average age of the drought-ridden rice plants is 1.5 months
They need a lot more water," said H Fahrurozi
the Chairman of the Sriwijaya IV Farmer Group
the drought is caused by the lack of water supply from the irrigation channels of Rentang Dam in Majalengka and Cipanas Dam
His rice fields only received water last week
with a low flow since they had to share it with other villages and districts
"(Farmers) here have not had maximum water for a month," he said
he estimated that in Karanganyar Village around 350 hectares were affected by drought
a number of farmers held running and motorbike races in the dried-up rice fields
"Let's just be spontaneous farmers (racing and riding motorcycles)
We made this to make people think about drought," said Fahrurozi who also participated in the activity
After the video of the racing and motorcycle riding on the dry land spread on the media
he added that several relevant government agencies came to the area
He hopes that the government will immediately address the impacts of the drought so that farmers do not suffer losses
Fahrurozi has spent around 14 million on the expenses of planting and fertilizing his 2-hectare rice fields
Rice production also has the potential to decrease because the soil is no longer fertile
"The production of rice also has the potential to decrease due to the soil no longer being fertile
The soil is dry and already cracked," he said
he is not yet able to predict how much the rice production on his land will decrease
he can harvest around 5 tons of dry paddy rice
A similar condition is happening in other villages in Kandanghaur
only two can be saved if the irrigation water supply is not yet normal
almost 80 percent of rice fields in Kandanghaur are dry
The planting area reaches around 4,000 hectares
Head of Food Crops Division at the Indramayu Regency Food Security and Agriculture Service, Imam Mahdi, admitted that drought hit agricultural land in Indramayu due to minimal water supply from irrigation and rivers. Until now, his party has recorded that 765 hectares of rice fields are dry
Farmers are inspecting drought-affected rice fields in Kandanghaur area
More than 1,600 hectares of rice fields there are experiencing drought
drought also prevents farmers in the national rice center from enjoying the increase in rice prices in the market
The district most affected by drought is Gantar with 383 hectares
The dry land in Kandanghaur is much smaller compared to Fahrurozi's data
"Perhaps the number of drought-affected rice fields may still increase
His party also claimed that they have not received any reports of crop failure or planting failure due to drought
the government has been continuously attempting to prevent crop failure
One of the solutions is by creating irrigation using pumping systems or Irpoms at 118 locations
Irpom is an irrigation system that uses water pumps utilizing groundwater or surface water
The area has been struggling to obtain water supply
Imam claims that the project is already 90% completed and has helped farmers to face drought
Imam admits that there are still areas with difficulties in water supply and at risk of scarcity
there is a potential for reduced production
the data is not yet known because it is not harvest time," he said
it is said that there are still farmers who have not planted due to water difficulties
the second planting season which usually starts in April had to be delayed until July due to drought
Out of the target area of 125,442 hectares for planting
approximately 92,000 rice fields have already been planted
drought also prevents farmers in the national rice center from enjoying the increasing prices of rice in the market
During the first or low season of planting (October-March)
the rice fields in Indramayu cover an area of 130,559 hectares and produce 965,000 tons of unhulled rice
rice production in this national food barn area will reach 1.4 million tons of unhulled rice
Drought often hits during the second planting season
it was reported that 8,640 hectares or 7.2 percent of the 120,000 hectares of rice fields were affected by the drought
we estimated that the drought would not be as widespread

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most areas in West Java will potentially rain over a week
The Head of the Meteorology Station of BMKG West Java
said several factors contributing to the increase in the supply of water vapor that forms convective clouds and the occurrence of rain in parts of West Java
Rakhmat mentioned that the factors include the relatively warm sea surface temperature around the waters of Indonesia
cyclonic circulation in the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra and south of Java
"This results in wind bending and convergence in West Java," he said in a written statement on Sunday
the overall atmospheric instability is categorized as light to strong
light to moderate rains may continue in some parts of West Java
The following areas are forecast for moderate to heavy rainfall
accompanied by thunder and strong winds on a local scale and of short duration over the next week:

Controversial Muslim cleric Panji Gumilang was released from the state prison in Indramayu regency
on Wednesday after serving his one-year sentence for blasphemy
The founder of Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School saluted several supporters who welcomed him outside of the prison
was detained on August 1 last year following reports that his school had taught students against basic Islamic teachings
The police investigation centered around allegations that the boarding school in Indramayu allows men and women to pray together in the same row during Eid al-Fitr and permits a woman to serve as an Imam during congregational prayers
Panji also reportedly made a controversial statement claiming that the Quran was "invented by Prophet Mohammad."
He was previously associated with a movement to establish an Islamic state in Indonesia
the Indramayu District Court found him guilty of blasphemy and sentenced him to one year in prison
deducted from the time he had served during the pre-trial detention
A correctional official said Panji had been granted a 15-day sentence cut during the last Eid al-Fitr
meaning that he completed his sentence on Wednesday
INDRAMAYU - In connection with the program to expand planting areas through pumping
the production of milled dry grain (GKG) from 27 districts/cities in West Java will be increased from the original 9 million tons to 11 million tons
This was stated by the Regional Secretary of West Java Province Herman Suryatman when carrying out monitoring and evaluation of the Pompanization program in Wanasari Village
together with the Regency and City Governments throughout West Java
have a commitment to agricultural production
which will be increased to 11 million tons of GKG," said Herman
Pumping is a rice irrigation program using a pipe system installed from rivers and groundwater to rice fields
its function is designed to ensure water availability in the dry season
This program has begun to be implemented in West Java
The Ministry of Agriculture provided West Java Province with 7,000 pumps whose installation today was directly monitored by West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman
"The pumping program in West Java has started to run effectively
"There are approximately 7,000 that have been dropped by the Ministry of Agriculture
and the rest are being accelerated for use as soon as possible," said Herman
Herman directly monitored the implementation of pumping
The total land area is 75 hectares and around 20 hectares of land is being irrigated with a pump machine
in the next few days the West Java Provincial Government will also send pumps so that the entire area is covered with irrigation
Chairman of the Wanasari Village Farmers Group
said that the pumping program in Indramayu was very helpful in speeding up the planting period
Herman also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture and the President of the Republic of Indonesia for providing real support for West Java
especially Indramayu as a national rice granary
Hopefully this can increase the planting index and expand the planting area in West Java as a national rice granary," said Herman

Japan recently announced that it has decided to cancel financial support for two coal-fired power plants in Bangladesh (Matarbari 2 coal plant) and Indonesia (Indramayu coal plant expansion)
the government also expressed its intention to support developing countries in the transition to a carbon-free society
The decision signals Japan’s strengthened climate commitment
joining its G7 peers to push coal phaseout and clean energy transition
For Indonesia, the cancellation is a good momentum to halt the 2,000 MW Indramayu coal plant expansion project, as the project has been in an uncertain condition for several years. In the latest National Electricity Supply Business Plan of 2021-2030 (RUTPL)
the status of the Indramayu coal-fired power plants is stated as “postponed to adjust with Jawa-Bali demand,” which can be translated to the oversupply in the system
The state-owned electricity company (PLN) quickly responded to this announcement by confirming that the company had cancelled its plans to build the Indramayu coal power extension project
just a few days after Japan’s announcement
PLN highlighted that the company took the initiative to stop looking for financial support as part of PLN’s effort to reach net zero by 2060
two coal power plants are being postponed in Java and Bali for similar reasons
The 660 MW Banten coal power plant and 1,000 MW Jawa 5 coal power plants have not started the construction process according to the latest RUPTL (2021-2030)
PLN needs to consider halting these projects
PLN has the vision to reach Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060 by accelerating the renewable energy uptakes and gradually phasing out coal power generation
Halting new coal power plants that have not been built would prevent PLN from adding extra burden to the oversupply potential in the system and dealing with the early retirement of young coal fleets in the future
The latest IPCC report has confirmed that global coal use has to collapse for the world to have any hope of reaching 1.5 degrees
The report also underlined that coal is the only type of fossil fuel that needs to be phased out by 2050
PLN could evade the inevitable future challenges of retiring young coal fleets like the Indramayu coal plant
and avoid jeopardising Indonesia’s plan to fully phase-out coal by 2050
PLN could turn this unfortunate loss of financial source into an opportunity to leverage the shifted appetite of investors
to obtain financial assistance to accelerate renewable energy deployment in Indonesia

Indonesia — A veil of smog lurks over Surono and Umroh’s home as relatives and neighbors file inside to greet the couple
Umroh welcomes the new arrivals over lunch as family members and friends congratulate the beaming pair on the birth of their second child
here on the northern coast of Java Island’s Indramayu district
a thin coat of soot has settled on the roof of the family home
it’s been there for a long time ever since the PLTU started up,” Surono told Mongabay Indonesia
PLTU 1 Indramayu is a coal power complex that began operating in 2011
a subsidiary of state-owned electricity utility PLN
the plant’s three units supply 990 megawatts to the Java-Bali grid owned by PLN
The plant’s smokestack is a local landmark
less than 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) east of Surono and Umroh’s home
In the more than a decade since the power plant began operating
farmers have complained of declining rice yields
and parents believe their children are increasingly falling prey to respiratory infections
Indonesia is the world’s largest exporter of coal
and the national grid relies on domestic supplies to generate two-thirds of the archipelago’s electricity
President Joko Widodo has committed in a submission to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to cutting Indonesia’s planet-warming emissions from a base scenario by 31.9% before 2030
Most of these planned emissions reductions will be borne by changes in the land-use sector
such as restrictions on developing carbon-rich peatlands
a large share of Indonesia’s international commitments relies on a transition to renewable energy
together with members of the Indramayu Coal Smoke-free Network (Jatayu)
has protested the PLTU 1 plant on several occasions since 2015
He said things got worse after the plant implemented what’s known in the industry as co-firing — replacing some of the coal it burns with organic matter that’s considered “cleaner.”
the dust got even thicker,” said Dulmuin
The group has contested environmental permits connected with PLTU 2 Indramayu
which was canceled after the project’s Japanese lenders withdrew support for its construction
Three days after the Mekarsari farmers held a demonstration against the PLTU 2 extension in December 2017
armed police in plainclothes kicked in the doors of homes in Mekarsari in the middle of the night
PLN began work on plans to trim emissions from its coal-fired power fleet by adding biomass to the coal burned in the boiler
PLN recently reported it had consumed 1 million metric tons of biomass across 43 coal units during 2023
It doesn’t specify the type of biomass used
but in Indonesia the material depends on location and includes sawdust and household waste
a Jakarta-based civil society organization
conducted research on the biomass supply chain to the Indramayu coal plant
The researchers found sawdust was procured from the surrounding districts of Cirebon
in addition to sources around Indramayu district
played down the implications of data on respiratory problems contained in a public health report for period April-September 2022
“The impact on public health does not show a critical level,” Andhanto wrote in text message
The impact of biomass emissions on surrounding populations is poorly understood in Indonesia owing to the novelty of the biomass industry
A study conducted in Thailand on two small power facilities burning rice husks determined that local people reported greater incidences of ill health than those living further away
“People living near the biomass power plants had clearly elevated and consistent respiratory diseases and health symptoms,” concluded Chudchawal Juntarawijit at Naresuan University in northern Thailand
The research published in 2018 in the International Journal of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health
found a prevalence of 20.7–31.6 cases of ill health per 100 people out of the affected population
were sufficiently high to cut average lifespans in Indonesia’s most populous province
The researchers found air pollution would account for 10,500 premature deaths and an economic cost of $7.4 billion
There’s no conclusive evidence of a link between respiratory disease and co-firing with biomass in West Java
anecdotal testimony by people living in the shadow of Indramayu’s coal plants indicates pervasive anxiety about these health risks
a 1-year-old was rushed to a health facility after experiencing breathing difficulties
UNICEF, the United Nations’ children’s agency, estimates that around 19,000 Indonesian children under the age of 5 die every year as a result of preventable pneumonia
In the middle of the day when the wind kicks up
But in the late afternoon Surono likens the smoke produced by the coal plant to a diesel engine burning too much oil
an old bus as it crawls up a steep hill coughing acrid smoke over everyone
The government’s label that it’s an ‘energy transition’ effort does not solve the environmental problems experienced by residents
residents felt the smoke plume getting thicker and affecting them

itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) is moving toward Entrepreneurial University through several efforts
One of those works comes from a lecturer in Meteorology study program of ITB
rice planting calendar app that helps farmers in Indramayu to overcome losses due to crop failure in previous years
According to the study by ITB research team and Ministry of Agriculture
the total loss of farmers in Indramayu reached 478.8 billion rupiah every planting season (or 957.6 billion rupiah a year) due to crop failure
named Sistem Informasi Cerdas Agribisnis (SICA)
allows farmers to predict the right time to do all agriculture activities
until harvesting.“SICA was initially developed when we discovered a model called Smart Climate Model (SCM) which predicts monthly weather for the next five years
we enhanced the app to show prediction for every ten days and apply it to the apps,” Dr
farmers can get information on the right hour
This android application runs dynamically through overlaying between ten-year rainfall predictions and google maps on the server
feedback to facilitate users to input disaster report on their villages
and market information that connect farmers and buyers
making it easier for farmers to sell their crops while reducing promotion cost
The web version of SICA is available on http://smartclim.info/sica/.*the SICA Application developed by Dr
Armi and his team developed SICA on web version
SICA is developed on android version which is more accessible to the farmers
If the farmer cannot operate it (smartphone)
This will create a pattern where the children help their parents in farming
and hopefully the younger generation will also be farmers in the future,” Dr
Armi said.He said that many similar apps are available in other countries
but SICA offers a system that is easy to understand
“There are also other planting prediction calendar available in other countries
Users only have to open their phone and they will know how to use it right away,” he explained.“Currently
there are seven million people in Indonesia who use SICA and it has proven to improve their yields due to successful crop,” Dr
Armi and his team give SICA free to farmers in Indramayu
SICA is distributed commercially since it attracts agriculture companies.SICA will also be developed in several agriculture centers in Indonesia such as Sumatera
Neighboring countries such as Timor Leste has stated its interest in using SICA
Armi and his team are also developing other applications relating to weather and climate in cooperation with Indonesian Navy

A number of train enthusiasts and representatives from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) in Operation Area 3 Cirebon explored the railway tracks at Jatibarang Station
KOMPAS - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Operations 3 Cirebon
in collaboration with a number of train enthusiast communities
held a pilgrimage along the inactive railway line in Indramayu
In addition to introducing the history of railways
the activity also aimed to optimize state-owned assets
During a nostalgic journey that took place on Wednesday (15/11/2023)
the entourage visited the former Lohbener Station
as well as the railway towards Karangampel Station and Indramayu City
Also read: Steam Locomotive B 1304, Legend of the Train in Tanah Pantura
the railway line was completely closed on July 21
The condition of several assets is now abandoned
only has a few remaining brick building parts with graffiti
A wrecked public transportation vehicle is also parked inside it
Former Indramayu station has even been converted into a residential house
the Karangampel station that ceased operations in 1932 now no longer exists and has turned into a football field
As for the railroad tracks leading to Indramayu and Karangampel
they have been covered by roads and rice fields
A group of people from the Indramayu Non-Active Train Route visited the former Lohbener Station building in Telukagung Village
admits that several assets are no longer intact
This is because the route has not been operational for decades
this route transported agricultural produce
there was a crisis period where plantation businesses were not running well," he said
the train also opened its cars for passengers
they also aim to introduce the public to the history of railway
Picture of the former Indramayu Station building
which has been converted into a residential house
The station used to operate and was ultimately closed on July 21
"We also want to know more and at the same time initiate the optimization of asset management in PT KAI as a whole and Daop 3 Cirebon," said Dicky
His team has also measured and managed the land certificates that are assets of PT KAI on the inactive route."
Assets along the Jatibarang route up to Indramayu Station
assets located along the Indramayu Station to Karangampel route are recorded at 337,950 square meters
This does not include the assets of the 18-kilometer railway line
Picture of the former railway track leading to Karangampel Station from Jatibarang Station
During the event called "Napak Tilas Nonactive Railway Line in Indramayu"
the group explored the remnants of the track and several stations that have been non-functional for decades
"We do not rule out the possibility of reactivating the railway line for the transportation of goods and people
it may change its function which was previously used for plantation can turn into an alternative mass transportation,' said Dicky."
the authority to reactivate the route lies with the Ministry of Transportation with proposals from the local government
He is also ready to assist the government if the route is reactivated
which has been repurposed as a residential house
The station was once operational and finally closed on July 21
The coordinator of the Indonesian Railway Preservation Society (IRPS) for the Cirebon region
believes that reactivation of the railway track is difficult because most of the KAI assets are not complete and have changed functions
the inactive track may not necessarily be lucrative from a business perspective
the most important thing is that this asset must be preserved because it has historical significance
It can serve as an education for the community that there used to be a train line from Jatibarang to Indramayu Kota and Karangampel
This means that connectivity in Indramayu has been available since ancient times," said Arif

A new documentary by Serikat Petani Indonesia
delves into the protracted battle for land in Tukdana
the area was reclassified as cultivable land in 1976 through a land exchange program rolled out by the Ministry of Agriculture
the state-owned sugar company PG Rajawali II earmarked the land for sugarcane plantations
igniting a prolonged dispute between peasant families and the corporation
others reluctantly entered partnerships with the sugar company
continuing to cultivate food crops on the contested land
Those who resisted organized under the peasant union
chairperson of the local branch of the peasant union
reflects on the disillusionment of those who became partners with the sugar company
“Some of the peasants who joined the Sugar company as ‘partners’ soon realized that they were only producing for the company
and that the partnership was only detrimental to them.”
emphasizes the enduring practice of cultivating the state-owned land to sustain their families with rice and vegetables
but this is State-owned land – and we have been cultivating here for long.”
the company intensified its efforts to enlist more peasants as partners
aiming to divide the unified front of peasants
This tactic resulted in increased hostilities and sowed divisions among the peasants
peasants who cultivated their own land were subjected to attacks
and intensified harassment in the last two years
Peasants allege that the company seeks to monopolize land solely for sugarcane cultivation
coercing individuals with monetary incentives to convert land for this purpose
“I was called to the Mayor’s place and asked to identify land for Sugarcane
I was offered 20 million Rupiah if I could get 1 hectare for them.”
Recognizing the detrimental effects of these partnerships
many farmers seek to return to traditional rice cultivation and turn to Serikat Petani Indonesia (SPI) for support
Fearful of losing their land to debt recovery
these peasant families unite against bureaucratic and corporate pressure
SPI plays a crucial role in educating peasants on their rights
and the principles of food sovereignty and agrarian reform
“We learn about food sovereignty and agrarian reform here
Today 630 members in the area cultivate around 430 hectares – mostly rice
Despite the company’s failure to fulfill the land exchange plan
peasants continue to occupy and cultivate the land
advocating for its return as part of the government’s agrarian reform program

rice planting which is done together is not only to supply rice stock in Jakarta
but his side also wants to ensure the farmers that FSTJ will buy their rice at a good price
"We want to help communities in production center regions and ensure them that we will buy at a good price
Other purpose is to supply rice for Jakarta," he said
he expected around 6-7 tons of rice could be harvested per hectares within harvest time around 90-105 days or for April-December period
"We are planting four rice varieties; IR 64 and Mentik Wangi are planted in 250 hectares land each
and Bawor 9 variety in 100 hectares land," he stated
His side symbolically planted Bawor 9 variety rice together with the farmers on Tuesday (1/7) in 5 hectares land
"There are 3,415 farmers who are involved in this planting rice together," he added
farmers are very enthusiastic to plant rice because FSTJ promised to buy the rice yields
rice planting cooperation is a good cooperation because it increases farmers' welfare through market guarantees for agricultural products they produce
there is a party who guarantee the harvest they produce," he closed

Pembabatan kawasan mangrove jadi penyebabnya
mangrove dibabat habis hingga bibir pantai
Akumulasi alih fungsi lahan inilah yang membuat ratusan hektare daratan ”lenyap” alias terjadi abrasi setiap tahun
Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (Walhi) Jabar sempat mencatat

Padahal sepuluh tahun lalu luas hutan mangrove 17.782 hektar

is like a living dictionary that contains the history
The former elementary school teacher was often visited by journalists
researchers and lecturers who were curious about the north coast area of West Java
It feels right when he says life is like a dictionary
Maharsi and Kamus Indonesia Kuna dictionary P J Zoetmulder were on Supali’s desk at Paoman Asri housing complex
His fingers and mind are getting familiar with those literatures
he was working to complete a book on the Javanese language with Indramayu dialect
who was also writing Indramayu folklore book
it will add to the work of an illiterate mother’s son which have reached 40 books that tell about Indramayu and Cirebon
such as the Budaya Dermayu or Gandrung Kapilayu poetry collection in Indramayu language
Some are written by himself and some are written with his team
Most of his books were written on a one-meter wooden table in the corner of his house
A number of paintings by Indramayu artists are also displayed on the wall
While various books are stored at his child\'s room as his shelve was no longer able to accommodate the books
he was busy writing a local-content textbook about Indramayu language
The work became a series of efforts to prevent the mother\'s language from becoming extinct at its own birthplace
this language is being abandoned," he said
there is a feeling that the Indramayu language is a minority in West Java
all schools in West Java must learn Sundanese
It should be Javanese language with Cirebon and Indramayu dialects
The bylaw was then revised with bylaw No 5/2003

It should be Javanese language with Cirebon and Indramayu dialects," said the man who obtains master degree in Indonesian Language and Literature from Gunung Jati University
Supali who joined the revision team was seen cynically by others
Our history is written in regional languages
in Indramayu language is also the same as in Tengger
That means Indramayu is also part of the ancient Javanese language," he explained
The bylaw was successfully revised to become bylaw No 14/2014
The West Java language is no longer limited to Sundanese or Cirebon
Supali and other authors continue to produce local-content textbooks as teaching materials for elementary school and high school in Cirebon and Indramayu
the recipient of the 2018 Local Language Figure award from the Indonesian Journalists Association of Indramayu has preserved the local language
Supali established the Lembaga Basa lan Sastra Dermayu institution
Its 25 members come from various professional backgrounds
The most important ones are traditional performing arts actors because they use local languages
they held the Basa Dermayu Theater Festival which was attended by around 200 students from Indramayu
Supali was reluctant to claim to be the sole perpetrator of local language preservation
"The most important ones are traditional performing arts actors because they use local languages," said the first chairman of Indramayu Arts Council (2001-2004)
Supali does not only write about local languages
art and culture of Java’s north coast area
but he diligently recorded the size of the village land and the number of local residents
His penchant for writing might come from the father
Supali began buying Kompas daily once a week for Rp 125
He set aside his pocket money which in the 1970s amounted to Rp 25 per day
The other newspaper he was looking for was Sinar Harapan and Suara Merdeka
His passions are sports and arts and culture
"For Indonesian language and Social Sciences subjects
Mathematics and Physics were only 5," he said with laughter
He realized it was impossible to master everything
he had to spend his time to help his mother
producing rengginang cracker and shrimp paste
His curved thumb signifies his hardwork of printing hot dogs
the thumb also left a trace of his love for Indramayu
Supali listened to the stories from his illiterate mother
They were about traditional art to Juntinyuat weaving which is now almost extinct
His mother even became the main source when Supali wrote the book Dermayu Culture
His interest in social issues drove him to study social science (IPS)
the fourth child of six siblings was asked to enroll at teacher education school (SPG)
the 20-year-old Supali was promoted as an elementary teacher in Anjahan
His career continued until he became the principal
As an individual grew up on coastal area who reads the history and culture of Indramayu
Supali learns the value of honesty and openness
One of his inspirations was the Bratayudha puppet play which was often performed in various village events
such as Sedekah Bumi and Mapag Sri in his village
The eldest son of Pandu has an honest character in words and deeds and is good to anyone
Supali suggested the regent candidate in Indramayu to follow Yudhistira who refused the gift from God if it were not also for his people
the prospective leader must not prioritize his personal interests
Supali works as an elementary school supervisor with the Indramayu Education Office and continues to write
The vast knowledge of the father of three children made scholars come to him and ask him about Batik Paoman
the art of tarling (guitar-flute) and to the history of Indramayu
he welcomes anyone who wants to know about his area
Supali also continues to encourage all parties to write
writing is an attempt to connect history and knowledge

HOME ARTICLES Is Indonesia’s Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School Facing an Existential Threat
Panji Gumilang addresses his students prior to his formal charging and detention by Indonesian police on 1 August 2023
A'an Suryana
An Islamic boarding school and its principal are embroiled once again in controversy
maybe the public’s complaints will bite – but for how long
Will the pesantren survive this latest controversy
whose current enrolment stands at over 5,000 students from elementary through university levels
has had a high profile given its alleged links with NII but also its size and apparent wealth
of which 1,000 hectares are used for agriculture and farming
dorms and sports stadium are well above the standard of a typical pesantren
That the school’s leadership is politically well connected makes it a useful resource for prominent individuals
The school has been unscathed possibly due to political reasons
security officials keen on tackling extremism and terrorism built strategic ties with Al-Zaytun to challenge underground extremist movements
to BIN headquarters to persuade them to help to oppose NII members
between 25 and 50 per cent of the total votes cast are needed to win a seat in the national parliament.)
In return, the powers that be may have provided Al-Zaytun with social and political protection when the school was under public pressure. For example, following rumours that the school still had links with the NII, Hendropriyono, as chief of BIN, publicly stated in 2003 that he “would beat up” anybody who harassed or threatened Al-Zaytun
He argued that Al-Zaytun had discarded NII’s ideas and struggle for an Islamic state and had chosen to conform to the values of the Indonesian state
The delay of several weeks between the public’s initial complaints to the police about Panji Gumilang and his naming as a suspect demonstrates a possible political tug-of-war between the security apparatus and government officials
even if the charges hold and a court sentences Panji to jail
these actions will not end the controversy surrounding Al-Zaytun
Panji is likely to return to the school once he finishes his jail term
In the eyes of mainstream Muslim organisations like Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah
he has a penchant for making incorrect religious innovations (bid’ah)

IOM works with Indonesia’s Government to shore up the regulatory environment on labour migration; trains law enforcement to better respond to trafficking cases; and works with partners like SBMI to protect migrant workers from exploitation – and
Rokaya’s underscore the need for victim-centric approaches and for strengthening the protection system to prevent migrant workers from falling prey to trafficking in persons,” says Jeffrey Labovitz
After a clandestinely recorded video of Ms
the government intervened to get her released
she says her agency illegally extracted the cost of her return airfare from her wages and—with a hand around her throat—forced her to sign a document absolving them of responsibility
She now knows better: “We need to really be careful about the information that is given to us
but has no recourse to claim the money extorted from her
because victims are often reluctant to share details of their experience overseas: “They fear being seen as a failure because they went overseas to improve their financial situation but returned with money problems.”
It is not only victims’ shame that affects the slow progress of trafficking case prosecutions
Legal ambiguity and the difficulties authorities face prosecuting cases also pose obstacles
compounded by the police sometimes blaming victims for their situation
SBMI data shows around 3,335 Indonesian victims of trafficking in the Middle East between 2015 and the middle of 2023
only two per cent have been able to access justice.
Around 3.3 million Indonesians were employed abroad in 2021
on top of more than five million undocumented migrant workers the Indonesian agency for the protection of migrant workers (BP2MI) estimates are overseas
More than three quarters of Indonesian migrant labourers work low-skill jobs that can pay up to six times more than the rate at home
with some 70 per cent of returnees reporting that employment abroad was a positive experience that improved their welfare
For those who become victims of trafficking

South African authorities detained the vessel off Cape Town
Saenudin for three months before IOM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs helped him and 73 other Indonesian seafarers to repatriate.
Saenudin has been fighting to recover 21 months of missing pay
a legal battle that forced him to sell everything he owns except his house
“The struggle tore me from my family,” he says
An IOM survey of more than 200 prospective Indonesian fishers provided actionable insights to the government for enhancing recruitment processes
and paralegals on adjudicating trafficking in persons cases
including the application of child victim and gender-sensitive approaches
as well as 162 members of anti-trafficking task forces in East Nusa Tenggara and North Kalimantan provinces.
improvements in case handling can’t come soon enough
the resolve of the fisherman shows no cracks

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah pun tak memalingkan wajah

bagian atas kepala boneka wayang golek cepak cenderung datar
Rambut boneka pun umumnya berpotongan pendek atau cepak
Dalang sepuh wayang golek cepak Indramayu

Indonesia - Caked in mud up to their knees
Samsudin has now dedicated his life to conservation and uses puppetry and storytelling to spread his message to the young about the importance of protecting mangroves in an area suffering massive coastal erosion
I weave everything into my stories,” said Samsudin
as he mused how some people in the area saw mangroves as a “nuisance” and would pull them out
Indonesia is home to over a fifth of the world’s mangrove forests
which naturally help keep out high tidal waters
coastal communities have chopped down trees to clear the way for fish and shrimp farms
Samsudin teaches local children aged 11 to 15 three times a week about how to look after the environment
sometimes illustrating it with puppets of monkeys and orangutans
reckons he has helped plant 700 hectares in the area
the issue has reached national attention and Indonesia recently embarked on one of the world’s biggest campaigns to restore mangroves
targeting 150,000 hectares (370,660 acres) annually across nine provinces up to 2024
has about 3.3 million hectares of mangrove
with more than 600,000 hectares in critical condition
the chief of the mangrove restoration body
Data from Indonesia’s forestry ministry from 2017 estimates more than 1.8 million hectares of mangroves are damaged
who goes by one name like many Indonesians
said the main causes of the degradation in Indonesia were illegal logging and land conversion
another activist in Indramayu who plants mangroves
also blames a lack of sedimentation in this coastal area east of the capital Jakarta for harming mangroves
teaching about the issue is a labour of love
even though he admits some in his own family question why he devotes so much time to it
because it’s important for people,” he said
