Sampoerna opened a new third-party operator (TPO) factory for hand-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKT) in Jaten
Owned and operated by Attin Sigaret Indonesia
Jaten facility employs approximately 2,000 people
Directorate General of Customs and Excise Representative Iyan Rubiyanto lauded the anticipated economic impact of the new factory
“We hope that the opening of this TPO will continue to absorb workforce and create a multiplier effect on the surrounding economy,” he was quoted as saying
“The sustainability of the industry is among the focus of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise
let’s maintain economic sustainability as a positive impact of the SKT industry.”
the SKT segment started recovering in 2020 after the government started supporting the segment in an effort to boost employment
the SKT’s share of the tobacco market increased from 17 percent in 2019 to 28 percent in 2023
TPO Jaten is one of five new TPOs that officially started operations in the first quarter of 2024. It complements Sampoerna’s other new SKT partnerships in Cilacap, Purwodadi, and Kebumen Regencies in Central Java, as well as Bojonegoro Regency in East Java
Sampoerna now has partnerships with 43 TPOs
all of which are owned and operated by local entrepreneurs and/or local cooperatives
about 90 percent of whom are working in SKT production facilities

and sharing love and drugs and all sorts of other things
The 31-year-old powerhouse vocalist, whose real name is Jaten Dimsdale
has been shattering the notion of genres since he stepped on the scene in 2019
His moniker is an acronym for "Someone Who Isn't Me Sometimes" and he sees songwriting as a form of therapy
and you never know what your heart's really trying to tell you or your subconscious is trying to communicate to you until you're like
Swims carefully transmutes the weighty melancholia of painful memories into transformative experiences for his listeners
just broke the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for the first time in January
with the single “Lose Control” coming in at #8 for his debut entry
Known early in his career for his viral presence on YouTube
has made a name for himself by forfeiting the stereotypical notions of what an artist should be
“I'm just so happy for the time because if it had been many times before this I would have not been ready for this mentally
"I couldn't have done it any time before right now
I'm happy I'm in a clear space in my life."
Chapman Baehler
Swims had early success uploading videos singing covers of anyone and everything—from Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” to Shania Twain’s “Still the One” and a moving cover of H.E.R.'s “Focus”—before catching the attention of Warner Records
“It's quite nuts how that can happen
we've been writing for like four years or something," he muses
"And it all just—it all lines up to one particular thing.”
Swims is speaking after a few days off his touring schedule on the day of our interview
He spent that time at Las Vegas' When We Were Young Festival
where he sang alongside the famed pop-punk band All Time Low
“So I got to go up there and play a song with them
which is such a full-circle moment for me because I'd seen them when I was coming up," Swims says
and going out and playing a song with All Time Low was just like
this is the kind of moment where you're like
With a massive repertoire and an even longer résumé studded with major names in contemporary music
teaming up with everyone from country superstar Maren Morris to prolific singer-songwriter Megan Trainor
a close friendship with famed UK dance music producer Stuart Crichton formed on a fluke
leading to electronic music collaborations with the likes of ILLENIUM
“So this guy is a huge collaborator of mine
Stu Crichton,” Swims says of the Scotland-born producer
“He's just the best at those kind of things
And he'll come to me and have me work with some people
but we'll just come up with like… usually
and then it'll turn into sending it to whoever and they just kind of have the EDM spin on top of something we've already written.”
who has recorded and written for Kylie Minogue
has been nominated for a slew of Grammys and other prestigious awards
"Stu Crichton is one of my best friends in the whole world..
we live like three houses down from each other too
so I can always pop over there," Swims gushes
"His wife feeds us cooked soup and scones and we just
This wasn’t the first time Swims had pushed himself to merge his sound
but one of the more challenging endeavors he’s faced as a recording artist
The first obstacle was to stand out in a subset of the industry wherein female artists have driven the standard in vocal house music for decades
plus veering himself towards a facet of the music business to which he was a relative stranger
Swims' collaboration with ILLENIUM, "All That Really Matters," starts off slowly
with the former's velvety vocals layered atop soft keys that quickly lead into the melodic dubstep and future bass sounds for which the latter has become so well known
the song with ILLENIUM came about," Swims recalls
"I came in way later and heard the song and it's just like
I would be honored to sing this song.' And they shot it to ILLENIUM and we played it every night
It's such a beautiful song to me and I love that song."
May 2, 2025Driven by lyrics deeply ensconced with meaning, the song progresses in undulations, with gentler moments segueing into soaring beat drops—the sort that conjures a sea of heads to intensely nodd in unison. Above all, the track is still very much on-brand for Swims, because despite the departure in sound, its message weaves back into the narrative reflected in many of his other records.
Swims took a risk with the initial track, “Some Things I’ll Never Know,” on I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy, for example, by placing a slow and haunting ballad in a slot where many other artists would have chosen to go in the complete opposite direction.
Moreover, a tie that directly binds Swims’ music to the EDM genre is a penchant for emotional lyrical content touching on various life struggles—material that both audiences find to be highly relatable.
“What it's kind of about, when somebody walks out of your life, it can be a significant other or your friend, but there's no real closure for why people walk out of your life," Swims says. "Sometimes they just leave, sometimes they just cut you off and you have no idea what went wrong, what you could have done, or you feel somebody starting to slide away from you.”
“There's a world sometimes where I feel like I love you so much and I do anything for you and I can do anything to make it better if I can," he continued. "Just let me know what's going on, I can try to make it better, I can try to do anything for you. I love you so much and I believe I'm always your best friend and I can do anything for you.”
Regardless of any sort of genre restraints, Swims has effortlessly tapped into the collective energy surrounding the spirit of dance music—one that’s filled with passion, longing and an unwavering sense of desire.
“It's also not about you either, nobody's hurting you because they're just out here to hurt you and they want you to hurt. They're doing something that's probably best for their life. You've got to just reconcile that with them yourself and give yourself some sort of closure that you're never going to get.”
His chance friendship with Crichton, however, has opened up new pathways in Swims’ career, but also on his own personal healing journey, reflecting capacities within himself as an artist and as a man that he previously didn’t know he had in him.
“It's hard work. I don't even know how I tried that," he explains. "Yeah, I don't listen to a lot of EDM. I didn't listen to a lot of that coming up. I'm a fan of course, but just never been like an EDM listener. But I'm a priority in the world.”
Now Swims sees the genre with entirely new eyes. The farther he’s immersed himself into it, the more he finds himself in a home away from home he never knew was available to him, one that welcomes him with open arms. “It's such a loving, family oriented… everybody at a festival, when you go to an EDM festival, everybody's just in this like… moment.”
“Everybody just loves on each other, and sharing love and drugs and all sorts of other things. It's just beautiful, man. Everybody's just there getting along and it doesn't seem like a problematic place. It never is. I got a chance to go to Counterpoint like the first year in Atlanta. It was so fun to do it, man. I just warped out of my mind a lot of it, three days in a row. It was amazing. It was a great vibe to be tapped into.”
With a live album version of I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy just dropped in January and a full European tour slated for early 2024, Swims has hardly been able to catch his breath. He also had 2023 appearances on the The Voice, where he duetted “Lose Control” with Kelly Clarkson on the season finale, and the Today Show, where he was paired with another superstar guest.
“I got to meet Elmo too, that was fucking sick. It's Elmo. It was fucking Elmo!”
And speaking of Jim Henson’s creations, Swims is also a lifelong Star Wars fan who, in high school, co-wrote and starred in a music theater rendition of the iconic film, substituting music from Les Miserables. At this point in his career, Swims can very much relate to the words of Yoda: “What you are seeking is also seeking you.”
“That's what you want out of music, you know, something you can celebrate," he says. "Something you can turn trauma into positive things is just like the greatest part of my job, I think, is turning all my awful shit into good positive feelings and emotions for people. And it becomes a tap into their memories and their specific relationships and their circumstances. And that's what it's like. So it's just no longer about me.”
it’s great to just take a step back and find what really matters."
Just as Jaten Allen's career with the Wylie boys soccer team is coming to a close
Allie Allen is beginning her journey with the girls team as the siblings make their mark on the program
Jaten will celebrate Senior Day on Fridaym when the Bulldogs finish their season against District 4-5A champion Lubbock Monterey
Allie will travel to Lubbock with the Lady Bulldogs as they battle Monterey for the No
but as the pair have combined for 35 goals and 20 assists
they have been a big part of the success both teams have had
While the two older Allen brothers moved on to different sports
The Wylie soccer program has benefited from it
"We’re the two that stuck with it and keep doing it," Jaten said
"It’s really different having a sibling that shares an interest for the game and a passion for it
Sibling rivalryThough Jaten and Allie are on different teams in the same program
that doesn't mean there is any less of a rivalry between the two
And when Allie was the ARN's Local Player of the Week on Jan
especially when she got Player of the Week," Jaten said
"(Wylie boys) coach (Clay Vaughn) kept giving me a little bit of nudging every day
Jaten was named Player of the Week the next week
But little sister still gets to brag that she was first
"We push each other to get better," Allie said
we got to watch some of her games," Jaten said
"Just kind of giving her tips on things she could have done a little bit different and how it could have helped
"She’s a great player by herself and I know she’s more than capable of learning herself
And while it might be hard for Allie to listen to her big brother in the moment
she admitted he knows what he's talking about
"I kind of shrug it off at first," Allie said
"Then I think about it more when he’s not around me."
Jaten was moved up to varsity at the end of his freshman year
and has been a fixture on the top team ever since.
"Jaten’s been around it for four years now," Vaughn said
around a bunch of guys that we’ve had go through
and the leadership he’s brought and the intensity in practice
but also that leadership aspect of showing the freshmen and sophomores how to play and the intensity level and how we want to play and what we want to do has been pretty huge this year for us."
There was the transition from a young player who looked to older players for leadership and guidance to becoming a player the young ones could lean on.
"I looked up to all the seniors and juniors and then as you go
you start to get looked up to and it’s a whole new mindset," Jaten said
You see a ton of guys come through the program who are different than anyone else
You get to bond with them over the game and all the free time you have at practices and all the trash talking
Jaten has scored 14 goals and has 11 assists for the Bulldogs
He also has stepped into goal for a pair of penalty shootout wins
(Starting goalie) Victor (Charo) came off the field and said
‘Jaten’s going in.’ I don’t know what it is about it
but he can just see it and read it and he’s able to do that stuff and the kids see it
To have a kid that’s able to do all of that is a great benefit to the team
but he’s setting people up and he’s helping you win when the game is on the line."
Wylie girls coach Madison McAdams wasn't sure what to expect from Allie as a freshman on varsity
there's the chemistry of getting along with older players and several other things
Allie has passed all with flying colors to the tune of 21 goals and nine assists
"I knew she was going to be a good asset to the team coming in
but you never know with a talented freshman how they’ll mesh with everybody," McAdams said
"She’s come right in and connected with everybody
She’s created a lot of good goals for us
I’m excited that she’s young and going to keep growing and getting better."
it shouldn't be a surprise that Allie was able to hold her own and thrive
"It always made it competitive," Allie said
"We’d go outside and play games and I’d want to be on the winning team every time
I got mad and stormed off into the house."
And she's playing for the 11 seniors on this year's team
but we come into every game with a new mindset,” Allie said
“I just want to give the seniors one last ride for them
I’m really looking forward to the next game and playoffs."
Different rolesThough both are catalysts for their team
they are in different points of their careers
Jaten is trying to leave the program better than he found it
Wylie boys won seven games in 2019 and just two a year ago
the Bulldogs have nine wins and had a six-game winning streak during non-district play
"We are disappointed and we were wanting to make the playoffs this year and take that step
"We stepped up from not being in games to competing and being truly disappointed because we had opportunities and we had chances
We did take a step up and it’s just continuing to build and continuing to take those steps
The leadership that Jaten is a part of with that senior group
it’s been a big learning year for us and they’ve helped us step up."
And it leaves something for the team to build on next year
even when Jaten and the other seniors are gone
There's a chance to take the next step and find nondistrict success again and then turn it into success once district play begins
"We grind away at it and get some wins here and there," Jaten said
We focused on the game and getting better each week and really trying to find that team chemistry every single day
It felt really good to have all those wins this year
even if they weren’t the important ones
they were important for the team to get those wins and enjoy (some success)."
Allie is helping the Lady Bulldogs program return to the success it found in Class 4A
The Wylie girls were in line for a playoff spot last year when the season abruptly ended
This year officially will be its first postseason as a Class 5A program
Wylie travels to Lubbock Monterey with the No
2 seed on th eline while the loser will finish third
Alliealready has proven things don't get too big for her
but we want to keep pushing and get second with a win on Friday," McAdams said
If the game’s not going her way or not going our way
she just fights through it and has a strong mentality
so it’s good that she already has that."
and one as strong as Jaten and Allie's passion for soccer
They have been able to share that bond at an even higher level this year
but once you have that sibling in the same sport you can connect," Jaten said
you still share that love and passion for the game
It’s crazy to see how my years have gone by so fast and me being a freshman when my brother was a senior
I really liked it when she was into soccer at a young age
It really changes how you look at each other as siblings."
McAdams is familiar with that feeling
She played alongside younger sisters McKenzie and Morgan at Wylie
and then again with Morgan at Hardin-Simmons
all three of us actually got to play her together at Wylie
"Even though Jaten and Allie aren’t on the same team
they’re still representing the same program and they’re going to be able to share these memories forever
No matter how many times they have clashed
having someone in the house to bounce ideas and thoughts about soccer off of and share the game will be missed next year
"I’m going to miss it," Allie said
"Sharing the passion of soccer with your brother
you’re family so there’s nothing like it
When he leaves I’m going to be lonely at the house … I’m going to miss it."

but the American singer-songwriter Teddy Swims will let you know who he is
and what it sounds like when you earn your musical chops playing Hip Hop
and Soul anywhere that would have you between Atlanta and the Atlantic Ocean
tells us about how his overnight success wasn’t actually overnight
and how playing cover songs is critical to learning your craft
Read along with us as Swims talks us through his early years with his irrepressible good nature
and charming southernisms that left our man in Phoenix wishing he had more time with this artist you should be listening to
Inked Magazine – How would you describe your music in the beginning and its evolution over the last few years
Teddy Swims – I’d say it’s definitely gotten more vulnerable and honest
the further I get from who I thought I was
It has changed a lot from what I thought I would want and what I thought I would want to make and what I thought I would want to sound like
I don’t know if I’ll ever find the sound you know
I think the way I would always describe music that I’ll make
and I know it to be consistently true is that I think we’re either making love or we’re crying about losing love
if you want to make love or cry then I’m your guy
I think people have this idea that cover music
and bands playing cover songs when they start out is a new thing
Some iconic songs like Jimi Hendrix version of Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”
or Whitney Houston “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton
and almost anything Joe Cocker ever recorded
Where do you see cover music in the music zeitgeist
The Beatles themselves were big cover band
I would argue that Wilson Pickett’s version of “Hey Jude” is better than the Beatles’ original version
you can’t listen to the Beatles version anymore
It also didn’t hurt that Pickett got Duane Allman to play guitar on that track
Do you think covers were part of your evolution
I never intended on doing the YouTube covers
and I wanted to pay homage to Michael Jackson
because it was the 10-year anniversary of his death
we did “Rock With You” to just kind of like
pay homage and we uploaded it on YouTube and Facebook and it just started going crazy
I guess we gotta keep on doing cover songs
I was singing in restaurants and bars with my buddies that I still play with today
JJ and Jesse and me were playing like three hours of cover songs in little bars in
We would play in any little town that would have a shitty little bar that would have us
I think playing covers definitely changed my life
and I think we’re all just regurgitating the same ideas
I think they’ve helped me become a writer and get to know my own voice better
I feel like the best covers come from people hearing music so differently
They attach their own feelings and their own memories to those songs
Doing a lot of covers has also set me up for a lot of self-comparison in my life too
because I’d covered some of the best songs in the world and then compared my version to the original
I was moving towards my own original tunes
and it was harder for me to give myself anything because I was like
It is too hard to compare yourself to icons and their songs like that
It’s a constant self-comparison to some of the greatest songwriters
and they only see this overnight sensation
It sounds like it didn’t really happen overnight
We started out in every shitty bar between Athens and Atlanta and anywhere else that would have us
I understand that you are a real student of the voice as an instrument
I think I think it is the most communicative
Your voice is also so dependent on how you treat it
this voice is such a beautiful instrument and such a communicator
I do whatever I can do to learn about this voice and protect this and get the know this better and better and better
I think it’s everyone’s duty that has a voice to figure that out
Because it’s the only thing that’s truly yours
this would be the only thing that would stand out
Where does your breadth and depth of musical style come from
I definitely think that I’m a product of my environment
I am also someone who wants to learn how to use my voice in different ways
I want to just be able to master this craft
where I think it’s really musically the prime place for anyone to grow up
We have everything from the best of hip hop
I was very lucky that my mom’s side of the family was super Pentecostal with my granddad on that side of the Pentecostal pastor and the music that that included
My dad’s side provided very different musical experiences
I feel like I got a both sides of the coin on a lot of different things in life and got exposed to a lot of good music and good things
I just fell in love with music and the craft and the communication that it is
I think I’m just very lucky that my family and my friends and growing up with who I did
and that was the only thing I ever wanted in my life
Do you think that all these different influences helped you to get along with so many diverse people
I’ve never met a friend that ain’t my best friend
you must be just like a real piece of shit
How do you keep that kindness alive in an industry that is notorious for changing people
I’ve been playing with the same cats since I was 12 or 13 years old
We build a bigger table not a taller fence so we’re just family
Your family keeps growing if you do it right
When you look at the trajectory of your career
can you look at pieces of music or moments and see when you made choices that were key to your success
I can definitely see how it was coming together
That first cover on YouTube changed the course of everything
And then all of us decided that we should keep on doing this
Then I asked all my buddies to give me six months
I knew that if we could just focus on this Teddy Swims thing for six months
I think it was like 10 or 11 of us living there and others would come over during that time
We built plywood walls to split one room into two rooms
we lived and worked there for six months trying to make this happen
We all had regular jobs and would work on music together when we got home
and we made it through the pandemic together
We were able to be together and create together in quarantine
That situation really helped us a lot because it was a time when people couldn’t work with people in the studio
That time stuck together ended up being a blessing for us
There have been so many times in my life where I feel like things like that have just happened
I think when you’re on the right path and you’re walking with purpose or an intention that all those moments are going to continue to happen and happen more often
How do you keep things going when you aren’t having those moments
I mean it goes back to the intention of my footsteps and promises made to my buddies
I didn’t always know how to keep the promises I made
My motto has always been to make more promises
because I am not going to lie to my buddies and fail to keep a promise
and they will always help me keep promises to people
We work together to back up my commitments at all costs
So the guys are sort of like a promise fulfillment team
and they have to figure out how to make them come true
you get people like that in your life who will protect my heart and don’t ever want me to change
I get to be a big man-child during this time
and they protect me and let me be who I am
how do you continue to evolve and grow as an artist and person
I feel responsible because I have a platform and something positive to say
I feel like I have a responsibility to touch people’s lives and interact with as many people as I possibly can in a positive way
It has been a blessing to give something positive to people
Something that really stuck with me and might be why I’m still doing this
There is something special in you and you’re going to do whatever it is that God has called you to do
God wants you to talk to his people and lead his people
I see the way you influence people around you
and you need to figure out right now what it is you’re going to influence them for
or if you lead people to yourself for your own fulfillment
you need to decide what it is that you want say to them and where you are going to take them”
That must have been pretty heavy for a kid to hear
but it is something that I have carried with me in my life
It has made me very intentional in the way that I speak to people and interact with them
I want them to know that they have all of me and my attention right now
you’re the most important person in the world
I just want people to feel magic is real and that people are innately good and want to do the right thing
I think there’s just not enough of that in the world
I’ll always be working on just making sure people feel like
What advice would you give a 16-year-old Teddy Swims
I would tell him to be patient and to calm down
because it’s still something I have a hard time with
because if I would have gotten this success when I was younger
I would say to that 16-year-old to sit down

Kim Kardashian to testify in Paris trial over 2016 armed robberyMon
Lady Gaga gave a free concert Saturday night in front of 2 million fans who poured onto Copacabana Beach for the biggest show of her career
(...) Thank you for making history with me,” Lady Gaga told a screaming crowd
kicked off the show at around 22.10pm local time with her 2011 song Bloody Mary
Concert organisers said 2.1 million people attended the show
switching between an array of dresses including one with the colours of the Brazilian flag
Some fans – many of them young – arrived on the beach at the crack of dawn to secure a good spot
“Today is the best day of my life,” said Manoela Dobes
a 27-year-old designer who was wearing a dress plastered with a photograph from when she met Lady Gaga in the United States in 2019
Madonna also turned Copacabana Beach into a massive dance floor last year
The large-scale performances are part of an effort led by City Hall to boost economic activity after Carnival and New Years’ Eve festivities and the upcoming month-long Saint John’s Day celebrations in June
“It brings activity to the city during what was previously considered the low season – filling hotels and increasing spending in bars
generating jobs and income for the population,” said Osmar Lima
the city’s secretary of economic development
in a statement released by Rio City Hall’s tourism department last month
Rio’s City Hall said in a recent report that around 1.6 million people were expected to attend Lady Gaga's concert and that the show should inject at least 600 million reais (NZ$178.3 million) into Rio’s economy
Similar concerts are scheduled to take place every year in May at least until 2028
Lady Gaga arrived in Rio in the early hours of Tuesday
The city has been alive with Gaga-mania since
as it geared up to welcome the pop star for her first show in the country since 2012
Rio’s metro employees danced to Lady Gaga’s 2008 hit song LoveGame and gave instructions for today in a video
A free exhibition celebrating her career sold out
While the vast majority of attendees were from Rio
the event also attracted Brazilians from across the country and international visitors
More than 500,000 tourists poured into the city in the days leading up to the show
according to data from the local bus station and Tom Jobim airport
Rio’s City Hall said in a statement yesterday
made a cross-continent trip from Colombia to Brazil to attend the show
“I’ve been a 100% fan of Lady Gaga my whole life,” said Serrano
who was wearing a T-shirt featuring Lady Gaga’s outlandish costumes over the years
the mega-star represents “total freedom of expression – being who one wants without shame”
Rio officials have a history of organising huge concerts on Copacabana Beach
Madonna’s show drew an estimated 1.6 million fans last year
while 4 million people flooded onto the beach for a 1994 New Year’s Eve show by Rod Stewart in 1994
that was the biggest free rock concert in history
sixteen sound towers were spread along the beach
Rio state’s security plan included the presence of 3300 military and 1500 police officers
Among those present were Lady Gaga admirers who remember their disappointment in 2017
when the artist cancelled a performance scheduled in Rio at the last minute due to health issues
“She's the best artist in the world,” the 25-year-old said
I love you” in Portuguese rose from the crowd behind him
whose real name is Ella Yelich O'Connor
which also displayed what appears to be the album cover art — an X-ray of a pelvis
"100% written in blood," the website read
The new album's announcement came a week after she released her latest single What Was That
The song's music video was filmed at a mysterious pop-up event in New York City's Washington Square Park that was initially shut down by police. The event ended up going ahead after all, and fans who stayed got to hear the new song for the first time.

"The geology and varying terrain through the Mangamuka Gorge mean it will always be susceptible to some movement during severe weather
like what we’ve seen over the past two to three weeks."
NZTA has warned drivers to prepare for the possibility of short-notice lane closures or reduced speeds on the Auckland Harbour Bridge

The next top cop of the troubled Victoria police force embraces his "outsider" status to curb its leadership malaise and has a stern warning for crooks
Former New Zealand Police commissioner Mike Bush won the race to become Victoria's chief commissioner after months of top-level staffing woes
The 40-year police veteran steps into the role on June 27 with a five-year contract
The Kiwi conceded the job will be no picnic
with Victoria's crime rate hitting an almost decade-high in 2024
everyone knows that," he told reporters today
"These crime issues are actually global
they are quite similar wherever you go but it's not good enough just to turn up after the act
Rising youth crime and high-profile cases of alleged offenders committing crimes while on bail spurred the Victorian government to strengthen laws in March
Bush said he was familiar with the crackdown but bail laws were just one part of the solution to tackling youth crime
along with a "prevention mindset"
He retired from the NZ police force in 2020 after joining in 1978 and spending his final six years in the top job
Whakaari/White Island volcano eruption and Covid-19 pandemic were among the biggest crises Bush confronted during his tenure
Bush also made headlines in 2022 after it emerged he had a past drink-driving conviction when unsuccessfully applying to become head of the UK's Metropolitan Police
Former New Zealand police minister Stuart Nash describedr Bush as hard but fair
He said Bush regularly met with police forces across the Tasman in his previous role and recalled travelling with him to every district across New Zealand once a year to chew the fat with communities
and then we all had biscuits and a cup of tea," Nash told AAP
"Mike is someone who had deep credibility in policing."
The state government has not handed the reins of Victoria Police to an outsider since former NSW Police assistant commissioner Christine Nixon in 2001
The Kiwi was happy to wear the "outsider" tag and is already hatching plans to hit the ground running
"I've got a lot to do to come up to speed," Bush said
"Culture is a consequence of leadership."
establishing relationships with community groups amid rising tensions and increasing police visibility on the beat were among his other top initial priorities
Victoria Police was thrust into leadership turmoil in February
with a no-confidence vote from officers costing chief commissioner Shane Patton his job
Emergency Management Commissioner Rick Nugent became acting chief and expressed an interest in making the move permanent before throwing in the towel in April
Deputy Commissioner Robert Hill will serve in an acting capacity until Bush takes over
Bush intends to speak with Patton before starting and said he wouldn't shy away from pushing back if he disagreed with the government
Premier Jacinta Allan said a recruitment agency was hired and instructed to find a leader capable of addressing the "challenges" plaguing the force
"Mike Bush is the best person for the job," she said
whose union led the no-confidence vote against Patton following a bitter pay dispute
admitted there was a disconnect between members and leaders
The state police union secretary welcomed Mr Bush's appointment and pledge to listen to the mounting workforce concerns
"We have a police force that is currently under-resourced that needs fresh officers," he said
The Commerce Commission has filed criminal charges against Woolworths NZ for alleged inaccurate pricing and misleading specials that may have breached the Fair Trading Act
The commission filed the charges against Woolworths in the Auckland District Court
It indicated in December last year that it would be filing separate criminal charges against Woolworths and two Pak'nSave supermarkets
the commission said there were ongoing issues with pricing in the supermarket sector and the operators may have breached the Fair Trading Act
deputy chair Anne Callinan said operators should know what the expectations were
"Supermarkets have long been on notice about the importance of accurate and clear pricing and specials
and we're not satisfied with the continuing issues we're seeing across the industry
"Pricing accuracy is a consumer right and an expectation of a competitive market
well-resourced businesses that should invest the time and effort to get pricing and promotions right."
She said the charges were filed to remind all supermarkets that they are expected to fix the pricing accuracy issues and implement better processes
In a statement when the charges were announced Woolworths managing director Spencer Sonn said it was important customers could trust prices advertised at their supermarkets
Woolworths said it has cooperated with the Commerce Commission's pricing investigation for some time

Former prime minister Sir John Key says he remains optimistic about Donald Trump's domestic economic policy despite opposing the tariff strategy that has sent global markets into turmoil in recent months
who served as prime minister for eight years
was the keynote speaker at an Auckland business summit earlier today
Sir John told 1News he believed Trump would ultimately take a more moderate approach to tariffs than initially proposed
"I'm not a fan of tariff policies
I don't think they really work," he said
as I think the stock market is telling you at the moment
that actually there will be a more sensible landing place for the tariffs that he's wanting to impose."
Sir John said he "wasn't entirely surprised" at Trump's call to go ahead with the policy
"They're just a negotiating point
I think he simply put on widespread and high rates of tariffs on every country to give himself a leverage point and a negotiating point
"What I think he actually grossly underestimated was the stock market reaction
You can actually make the case that his own strategy hasn't worked
The reason the markets have recovered is because he's taken those tariffs off the most part
'I'm going to negotiate case by case'."
Sir John suggested Trump's economic policies could still generally be positive for the US
but the tariffs could be trickier for the global economy
Asked whether he stood by his October comments that Trump would be good for the economy
he said: "Do I think he's going to reduce regulatory burden in the United States
It depends on where things shake down in terms of tariffs."
Sir John acknowledged that for certain industries
Trump's policies could be "a really negative thing"
particularly if the president's proposed 100% tariff on the film industry were to be implemented
"I can't see how it would be cost-competitive to make a movie in New Zealand with a 100% tariff on it," he said
noting that films such as The Hobbit would not have been made in New Zealand without government subsidies
who now served as a director of US tech company Palo Alto Networks
said he had "always been opposed" to Trump's tariff policies but believes they won't be the "dominant part of his economic solutions"
"I don't think it's perfect from New Zealand's point of view
but I don't think we should panic either
and America will still be a very big market for us to sell things to," he said
"There are growing markets around the world
It's not a great thing from New Zealand's point of view
We've got a very sound economy with lots of options in front of us."
Sir John suggested a belief that the Republican Trump was was better "on balance" for the US economy than Democratic opponent Kamala Harris
he expressed concerns about Trump's tariff approach: "China doesn't pay those tariffs
middle-income consumers or consumers in America do
because when a tariff goes on a good that you bring into a country
He added: "I don't agree with the massive tariffs
and I don't think you'll follow through with all of that
and I certainly don't agree with this view on trade."
Audrey Backeberg disappeared from a small city in south-central Wisconsin after reportedly hitchhiking with her family’s babysitter and catching a bus to Indianapolis
Nobody ever knew where she went or what happened to her
All that changed last week when she was found alive and safe in another state
thanks to the fresh eyes from a deputy who took over the case in February
Detective Isaac Hanson discovered an out-of-state arrest record that matched Backeberg
which triggered a series of investigative moves that led to finding her alive and safe in another state
Turns out Backeberg chose to leave the town of Reedsburg on her own accord – likely due to an abusive husband
safe and secure; And just kind of lived under the radar for that long,” he said
Hanson was assigned the case in late February and
he and other officials met with Backeberg’s family to see if they had a connection with that region
They also started digging through Backeberg's sister's Ancestry.com account
obituaries and marriage licenses from that region
they found an address where a woman was living that Hanson said shared a lot of similarities with Backeberg
including date of birth and social security number
Hanson was able to get a deputy from that jurisdiction to go to the address
"I was expecting the deputy to call me back and say
‘Oh nobody answered the door.’ And I thought it was the deputy calling me
I could sense that she obviously had her reasons for leaving.”
Most of the information he learned during that call he declined to share
saying that it was still important to Backeberg that she not be found
“I think it overwhelmed her of course with the emotions that she had
having a deputy show up at her house and then kind of call her out and talk with her about what happened and kind of relive 62 years in 45 minutes,” he said
Hanson described discovering her safe after more than six decades practically unheard of
And while he doesn't know what will happen next in terms of her family reconnecting
he said he was happy that she can reach out if she wants to
so she has my contact number if she ever wants to reach out or needs anything
any phone numbers of family members back here," he said
"Ultimately she kind of holds the cards for that.”
Shane William Pritchard has been charged with crimes he didn’t commit and chased for debts he doesn’t owe
That’s because the Dunedin man is not the only Shane William Pritchard in town
While the duo’s shared name and age has sometimes been a handy loophole for one Shane
for the other it has caused problems for 36 years
It’s been years of fearing every knock on the door
Years of wondering if he’ll be hand-cuffed and taken to jail
to be honest,” says Shane William Pritchard
a scout and a member of the Air Training Corp
remembers getting quite a shock when her friend called one evening
She'd been acting as a referee for a gun licence for Shane
whose friend informed her that the police had a long list of offences against Shane’s name
Not long after that the police turned up to where Shane was working at the local tannery to arrest him
“You're scrambling in your head to think of ways that you can prove it's not you.”
Another Shane William Pritchard had been born in Otago
They were separated by just two weeks and about 50 miles – one growing up in Mosgiel
the other in Milton – but also by the lives they’d been leading
To watch the full video story go to TVNZ+
Shane from Milton had huge problems focusing at school
He was raised in foster care and then boys’ homes
I just wanted to look cool and get in trouble,” he tells Fair Go
Milton Shane was used to run-ins with police
he got pulled over in his car and asked about his driving licence
one’s got a licence and the other hasn’t.’ And I’m like ‘obviously it must be the one with a licence’.”
he went to his bank to draw out an ACC payment and was asked which bank account was his
He says that at that point he was trying to figure out what was going on
“I thought it was just an error.” But he took advantage of the situation and withdrew a large sum of cash
Mosgiel Shane became aware of the withdrawal when a scheduled car payment was declined
and when Milton Shane turned up at the bank to withdraw more money
Identity fraud was considered but Milton Shane was legitimately expecting an ACC payment
so the withdrawal appeared to be a genuine mistake and the police couldn’t take any action
'Anything I could get away with
Mosgiel Shane thought the bank incident would have alerted police to the problem
But his nemesis had cottoned on to the advantages of having a second identity to use
Milton Shane acquired a suite of furniture on hire-purchase
Milton-Shane clocked up more driving offences
Mosgiel Shane thought about changing his name but realised he’d have to provide his previous name in the process
the courts and debt collectors such as Baycorp should be able to distinguish between himself and Milton Shane
The police first addressed the issue in the 1990s after Mosgiel Shane went to the media
He was given a letter to carry with him should he be apprehended
He and his parents felt his situation wasn’t being taken seriously
Mosgiel Shane went to the media a second time in the mid-2000s
the police gave their word that a record in their system would stop the misidentification from happening again
This does appear to have worked as far as police action goes
But while Mosgiel Shane was given the same reassurance by the Ministry of Justice
he continued to receive demands from the courts for unpaid fines
He’d also get stopped and questioned whenever he left the country for work trips or holidays
It took a huge toll on Mosgiel Shane’s mental health
not realising the constant stress it placed on his life
John Pritchard says that at times his son felt his life wasn’t worth living
worrying about what he was going to do to himself and that really ate me up.”
he and his son were in tears as Shane admitted he was at breaking point
He described going for days at a time unable to eat or sleep wondering what might happen next
"Am I going to be in a position where they've got me in handcuffs or I've got debt collectors coming to the door?" ...You're spiralling into this black hole." He started taking anti-anxiety medication which helped
And events regarding Milton Shane seemed to settle
Milton Shane was charged for fishing without a licence in Twizel and failing to comply with fisheries officers
But a court registrar incorrectly entered the birth date of Mosgiel Shane in the system
both Shanes were being chased to pay the $1530 fine
It was Mosgiel Shane who spotted the error and rang the court
He also sent a statement from his manager saying he’d not been fishing in Twizel that day
The reply he got was to say he’d been given the wrong form and that they wouldn’t accept his proof
They just wanted to know how I was going to pay the fine.”
The first Milton Shane knew about this was when Fair Go told him Mosgiel Shane had been chased for the fine
He was told to pay up or face the consequences
feeling he shouldn’t have to pay good money to correct someone else’s mistake
But it cost Mosgiel Shane over $5000 in legal fees
and took months of back and forth between him
“Why should anybody have to pay their own money to right somebody else's wrongs and prove who they are
I’m sick and tired of proving who I am all the time.”
He wanted the Ministry of Justice to take responsibility and reimburse him for his legal costs
saying court staff such as the registrar in this case have immunity if they make mistakes such as the one made here
and if I make a mistake and it's affecting my client
that it's going to cost them money to rectify a mistake that I've made.”
he deserves a million apologies from those guys,” she says
Milton Shane told Fair Go he still gets in trouble
but wants the other Shane to know he doesn’t use his birth date anymore
And he had a message for him: “We’ve got to get it sorted for you
so you can have a good life with you and your family because I’m trying to get my life together with my son and my grandson”
He offers to meet to see if they can sort it out together
but I’m not interested in meeting him,.” says Mosgiel Shane
He says he doesn’t hold any grudges and accepts Milton Shane’s apology
And he believes the only way for that to happen is for the courts and the Ministry of Justice to give him a guarantee that mix-ups won’t occur in the future
Fair Go asked the Ministry of Justice to appear in person to apologise and provide reassurance to Shane of its plans to guard against these mistakes
The Ministry declined our request to be on camera saying any comment on an individual case would compromise the independence of the courts as the Ministry operates separately
But it did send a written apology directly to Mosgiel Shane
It also admitted mistakes can occur in clerical records
but said instructions were clear and the importance of getting things right had been emphasised to staff
Mosgiel Shane isn’t totally convinced that’s the end of it
“All I want is for the Ministry of Justice and the courts to do their job
I'd like to live without this hanging over me all the time
his criminal check has come back showing a clean slate
A stranger allegedly tried to force an 8-year-old boy into a car outside an Auckland primary school yesterday before bystanders intervened and the man drove off
Police confirmed they were investigating an incident from around 3pm on Monday outside Rowandale School in the suburb of Manurewa
"Police are still working to understand exactly what was occurring at the time and our enquiries are ongoing," a spokesperson said
"We have spoken with the boy and will continue to work through a careful process
Rowandale School principal Karl Vasau said in a statement to social media that other parents had intervened
"The student then made his way home and told his parents who then came into school to let us know and then they rung the police."
Vasau told 1News the pupil was "doing fine" following the incident and was surrounded by a "supportive
"Our student is safe now and his family are thankful that nothing further happened to their boy but are wanting us all to be aware and stay safe
It's about working with that child to make them feel safe again
but also looking forward to returning back to school with a little bit of normality."
Police had reacted "pretty quickly" to the reports
"They've been in this morning to touch base and connect
the community police constables are going to come back to tomorrow to address the whole school in relation to what had happened and around keeping themselves safe before and after school."
Increased police patrols would remain in the area after school from Wednesday

Kim Kardashian thought she was going to be raped and killed when criminals broke into her bedroom in central Paris, tied her up and stole more than US$6 million in jewellery.
More than eight years later, 10 people will go on trial in Paris over the robbery, abduction and kidnapping of the media personality and the concierge of the residence where she was staying during Paris Fashion Week the night of October 2, 2016.
Kardashian’s lawyers said she will testify in person at the trial starting Monday and scheduled to run through May 23.
"Ms Kardashian is reserving her testimony for the court and jury and does not wish to elaborate further at this time," they said.
"She has great respect and admiration for the French justice system and has been treated with great respect by the French authorities.
"She wishes the trial to proceed in an orderly fashion, in accordance with French law and with respect for all parties to the case."
In interviews and on her family’s reality TV show, Kardashian has described being terrified as robbers pointed a gun at her.
In a 2020 appearance on David Letterman’s Netflix show, she tearfully recalled thinking: "This is the time I’m going to get raped. I’m like, ‘What is happening? Are we gonna die? Just tell them I have children. I have babies, I have a husband, I have a family.'"
Twelve people were originally expected in the defendants’ box.
One of them has died, and another is seriously ill and can't be tried. According to the investigation, five of the 10 defendants were present at the scene of the robbery.
The French press has dubbed them The Granddad Robbers because the main defendants are elderly and have careers as bank robbers with long criminal records.
Kardashian told investigators she was taken to a bathroom next to her bedroom and placed in the bathtub. Her attackers fled on bicycles or on foot and she managed to free herself by removing the tape from her hands and mouth.
She had also removed the tape from her feet and rushed to her stylist’s room. She called her sister Kourtney to tell her about the theft.
Shortly afterwards, Kardashian told investigators that she had not been injured. She filed a complaint, adding that she wanted to leave France as soon as possible to be reunited with her children.
According to her testimony and that of the concierge, at least one of the suspects had a handgun, with which he threatened the victims.
The gangsters stole many pieces of jewellery, including a ring of great value, estimated to be worth more than US$6 million (NZ$10 million). Only one piece of jewellery — a diamond cross on platinum that was lost during the suspects' escape — has been recovered.
Two of the accused have partially confessed to the crime, as their DNA was found at the crime scene.
The alleged ringleader, 68-year-old Aomar Aït Khedache, is one of two suspected robbers who allegedly entered the apartment. Nicknamed "Old Omar", his genetic profile was found on the tape used to gag Kardashian.
He left the hotel on a bicycle, as did two other robbers, then met his son, who was waiting for him in a parked car at a nearby train station.
The second robber said he tied up the concierge with cables but did not go up to Kardashian’s apartment. Yunice Abbas, 71, said he acted as a lookout in the ground-floor reception area, making sure the escape route was clear.
He said he was unarmed and did not personally threaten Kardashian, but admitted he shared responsibility for the crime. Abbas was arrested in January 2017 and spent 21 months in prison before being released under judicial supervision.
In 2021, he co-authored a French-language book titled I Sequestered Kim Kardashian.
Didier Dubreucq, 69, known as "Blue Eyes", is the second alleged robber suspected of entering the flat.
He denies any involvement, although he was filmed by CCTV cameras and numerous telephone contacts with the other co-defendants show his involvement, according to the investigation.
The other defendants are suspected of providing information about Kardashian’s presence in the apartment.
Others are accused of playing a role in the resale of the jewellery in Antwerp, Belgium.
First-time nominees Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker and Bad Company will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — in a class that also includes pop star Cyndi Lauper, the hip-hop pioneers Outkast, the rock duo the White Stripes and grunge masters Soundgarden.
Salt-N-Pepa, the first female rap act to achieve gold and platinum status, and the late singer-songwriter Warren Zevon will get the Musical Influence Award. The late record producer Thom Bell, pianist Nicky Hopkins and bassist Carol Kaye will each get the Musical Excellence Award.
The late Cocker, who sang at Woodstock and was best known for his cover of The Beatles’ With a Little Help From My Friends, had the backing of Billy Joel, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Pete Thomas, a member of Elvis Costello & The Attractions, who argued that Cocker is "about as rock and roll as it gets".
Soundgarden — with the late Chris Cornell as singer — get into the Hall on their third nomination. They follow two other grunge acts in the Hall — Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Bad Company get in having become radio fixtures with such arena-rock staples as Feel Like Makin’ Love, Can’t Get Enough and Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy.
The Ahmet Ertegun Award — given to nonperforming industry professionals who had a major influence on music — will go to Lenny Waronker, a former head of Warner Bros. Records who signed Prince and R.E.M., and had a part in records from Madonna, Randy Newman, the Doobie Brothers, Rickie Lee Jones, Paul Simon and Gary Clark Jr.
Some nominees that didn't get in this year included Mariah Carey, Phish, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, the Black Crowes and Oasis.
Checker’s recording of The Twist, and subsequent Let’s Twist Again are considered among the most popular songs in the history of rock 'n' roll. The 83-year-old has expressed frustration that he hadn't been granted entry before, including telling the AP in 2014: "I don’t want to get in there when I’m 85 years old. I’ll tell them to drop dead, so you better do it quick while I’m still smiling."
Lauper rose to fame in the 1980s with hits such as Time After Time and Girls Just Want To Have Fun and went on to win a Tony Award for Kinky Boots. OutKast, made up of André 3000 and Big Boi, have six Grammys and a reputation for pushing the boundaries of hip-hop. The White Stripes — made up of Jack White and Meg White — were indie darlings in the early 2000s with such songs as Seven Nation Army.
Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they’re eligible for induction. The induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall.
Nominees were voted on by more than 1200 artists, historians and music industry professionals. The selection criteria include "an artist’s impact on other musicians, the scope and longevity of their career and body of work, as well as their innovation and excellence in style and technique".
Last year, Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band and singer-guitarist Peter Frampton were inducted.

I've Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1)
Say his name to an older generation of Kiwi music lovers and you might be met with blank stares and the question
But for those who count themselves among his fans
The artist known as Teddy Swims (Teddy is a childhood nickname
Swims an acronym for Someone Who Isn’t Me Sometimes) shot to fame for his covers on YouTube before stepping out as an artist in his own right
now with several EPs and a debut album to his name
It’s thanks to his viral cover of Six60′s Rivers that New Zealanders are among his biggest fans, and they proved it when they lined up outside Auckland Town Hall last month to hear him.
The day after the show, where he showed off his brand-new Huffer outfit as he serenaded the crowd, he spoke with the Herald at Roundhead Studios in Eden Terrace.
In person, he’s as hard to define as the genre of his music, which draws from soul, pop and R&B. He’s covered in tattoos and has a raspy, powerful voice that nails the high notes, but he’s softly spoken, sweet, and a touch self-deprecating without being shy — he prefers a bear hug to a handshake and within moments of sitting down with the Herald, he’s already cross-legged on the floor.
Real name Jaten Dimsdale, the preacher’s grandson from Georgia couldn’t be more excited to be back in New Zealand — and he truly believes that Kiwis have discovered the secret to happiness.
“The people here I just think are so beautiful, and I think they genuinely believe people are good,” is his assessment of us.
“Nobody’s just walking around just callous and angry all the time, at least in my experience. I’ve gotten such a love from this place and I just love it out here. People have stuck by me for four years here and have watched me develop as Teddy Swims and have my back.”
This visit lasted only 48 hours but he’s already planning a comeback — he “wants to go see where the Hobbits are” and go to the beach.
He did have the chance to do some shopping, debuting his haul of New Zealand designer wear on stage — coincidentally, the day before New Zealand Fashion Week kicked off in Auckland. He even had to buy another suitcase “cause I just couldn’t stop [in the Huffer store], I got overwhelmed there. When I first got to my hotel, Stolen Girlfriends Club left me some stuff, they gave me this cool shirt”.
It’s not the only detail fans spotted in his outfit — he was also wearing two pounamu around his neck that he now reveals were gifted to him by “two beautiful ladies” during his meet and greet before the show.
“One gave me this one here and one gave me another one and it was just very, very sweet,” he says, pointing them out. “What they’ve taught me is it’s passing this energy back to me.
“It’s a real honour and it’s a beautiful piece of jewellery as well. I know how important it is for the culture, I feel invited with open arms. I’ll wear them forever.”
He hasn’t met Six60 in person yet, but he has a text-based friendship with lead singer Matiu Walters.
“We are talking about an eventual collaboration, which is huge, and they’re incredible. His voice is just out of this world. So if the timing ever works out, we’ll do something,” he promises.
His first studio album, titled I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1), is out today.
“This generation is the first [to] really start normalising talking about mental health in its entirety,” he muses.
“But I think there’s still this generational mentality that we don’t want to go to therapy, or that ‘I’m not crazy, I don’t need a shrink’, kind of thing, you know?”

Teddy Swims admits he’s fond of his own coping mechanisms
drinking tequila or biting my nails or certain tics I have
or biting the inside of my cheeks — I have these nervous things that I do and this anxiety I have
“And I feel like I’ve grown accustomed to them
and I don’t know what I’d be like if they were ever challenged or I ever had to change them
or heal from some trauma that I am for some reason attached to.”
Any artist will tell you that songwriting and making music is a therapeutic act in itself
But he points out that constantly rehashing negative emotions can mean they never go away
“I do this thing sometimes where this one thing that happens in my life
and then I’ll write a hundred songs about it
and a hundred different perspectives,” he says
“And now I’ve taken this tiny little problem
and I’ve made it so gigantic in my life that
it’s made it massive and it’s become the most important problem and thing in my life
One example of this is his single Lose Control on the new album
about his relationship with his ex-girlfriend who struggled with substance abuse
“We were drinking a lot and we were doing drugs a lot
And — I don’t know how candid I can be — a lot of cocaine together,” he admits
it was kind of like we were not on the same page
“There were a lot of arguments and fights and toxic things that I think we both loved about the relationship — the high highs were just immaculate and the low lows were what maybe fed the highest parts to be the best they were
“So it truly was just about breaking free and being able to heal and surrounding myself with rewarding love
and not using substances to have substance in my life.”
“I made a promise to myself that when [the album] does come out
I will put myself into therapy,” he says earnestly
he’s cracking a smile — as heavy as his subject material is
he’s the first to gently poke fun at himself
“I named it that to buy myself a couple more months of freedom
of being a traumatised little s***,” he jokes
'No one was meant to hear it,' Moller said while discussing his life

Bringing hard-core music to Rockdale County
works very hard for the passion they have for their music
Heroic Bear brought Rockdale News up to speed with their recently with an interview
What are some of your musical or non-musical inspirations
Thomas George: A lot of our lyrics are based off of art and poetry
so I guess that would be our non-musical inspirations
Josh Lucas: My biggest influence would definitely have to be Tony Royster Jr.
He is literally the best drummer in the world
Jaten Dimsdale: Jason Vena from the band Acceptance and Jesse Hampton; they got me into music solely
Thomas George: I met a guy a long time ago named George Hamlon
and he pretty much told me to start playing the guitar
Rashene Mincy: I actually have three people who have inspired me… Mod Sun
Jaten Dimsdale: I met Thomas George and Jamil Bridges at a church event
and they wanted me to come in and jam with them
We have had a thousand different line-ups since then
Thomas George: I’ve written most of the songs so far
Jaten has been helping me with music writing; his mind is a musical genius
Thomas George: One thing I really drew inspiration from is Renee Margaret
an artist who paints about how no one is really who they say they are
I take the lyrics and apply them to my regular life
Our lyrics are applicable to emotions and forgiveness even
Josh Lucas: We are all very passionate about music
and we are not going to do anything else in our lives but this
So we are all definitely going to hit this as hard as possible
and going to try to get somewhere with this
“Anybody who had a fall back plan had a dream once and was too scared to chase it.”

Drew Gibbs has had his program in place for nearly two decades as head football coach at Ramapo High School
The program is proven and solid enough to enable his team to be lifted from rare doldrums
such as the opening-day loss to Wayne Hills
The season could have been over before it started and dreams of returning to the state playoffs could have been dashed without the right attitude across the board
"That was a tough one," Gibbs said of the opener
"We were up by 21 points in the first half
but we're a very young team and things started to go sideways
but we battled back to take the lead before they regained it at the end."
it seems that the Green Raiders of any year will find a way to bounce back from the lows thanks to a positive outlook and belief in what Gibbs has installed
The next week of practice was not a period of deep mourning
especially since the schedule proved to only increase the pressure
"Our next game was with Demarest and they beat us the year before," Gibbs said
"But our boys recovered well and worked hard to get ready for it."
Ramapo rose up and began rolling impressively
"We've had some big wins since then," the coach added
The Green Raiders won there and went on to compile a 7-2 record and earn the top seed in the North 1 Group 3 tournament
"[The seed] gives us the advantage of having home games ahead of us," the coach said of a hopeful run through the tournament
Perhaps the season's biggest win was over River Dell
the explosive defending sectional champion
"Demarest and River Dell have only one loss each and they're both to Ramapo," the coach noted proudly
It all has been done because the team followed Gibbs's blue print which has had amazing success over the years
seniors make up most of the starting lineup and
having waited their turn for an opportunity to perform on the highest stage of high school athletics
"I'm sure some of the boys are frustrated sitting behind a bunch of very good players
the second team as well as the starters get first-team reps and the scout team helps us prepare for the next opponent
Everyone has a role in the program and we keep developing the boys
They're fully prepared to move up [the depth chart]."
"We've had very fine line-of-scrimmage play from Michael Hughes
both on the offensive and defensive lines," he said of the four seniors
Much of the acclaim has centered on junior quarterback A.J
Wingfield and rightly so as one of the more visible members of the attack
running the ball as well as throwing it," Gibbs said
Wingfield has completed 67.5 percent of his 126 passes for 1,236 yards and eight touchdowns
and run for another 751 yards and 16 scores
The quarterback's top targets have been juniors Max Baker and Ty Jaten and senior Michael Graff
despite having to wear a cast on a broken thumb," Gibbs said
has had a great year behind our offensive line." Brancaleone has rushed for 498 yards and 10 touchdowns and caught 20 passes for 293 yards and two more scores
The defensive line is strong and junior linebacker Anthony Sargenti leads the team with 51 tackles
Besides the opener with Wayne Hills the Raiders had lost only one other game
the two top [public school] teams in North Jersey
They made a field goal and we missed a field goal
Gibbs said his team was "a work in progress," and it has progressed nicely despite the first-day stumble
quite a number of young backups are watching and learning and
they should be fully ready when it is time for them to ascend to the Ramapo starting lineup
