KLUNGKUNG — Two foreign tourists were injured in a jet ski accident at Kelingking Beach
The victims were identified as Nassor Khalid Mussa (28)
and Khateb Fatme Hassan (32) from Tanzania
The accident occurred when their jet ski was struck by large waves while they were out at sea
the pair had stopped to take selfies on their jet ski
This momentary distraction caused them to lose control
pushing it dangerously close to the cliffs
had previously warned them to stay away from the cliffs due to the strong currents
and Nassor and Khateb were unable to regain control of the jet ski
Amri attempted a rescue but was also hit by a wave
which capsized his jet ski and swept him into the sea
Both Nassor and Khateb managed to swim toward the shore
including the local police and Bali’s SAR team
Nassor sustained injuries to his neck and was airlifted to a hospital in Denpasar at approximately 3:30 PM
is currently resting at the jet ski company’s office
was eventually rescued by emergency responders
He sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital in Klungkung for treatment
The jet ski involved in the accident has since been retrieved and taken to the company’s base in Lembongan
Police spokesperson AKP Agus Widiono from Klungkung Police stated that authorities will continue monitoring the victims’ conditions and reinforce safety compliance across tourist water activity areas

The victim, 54-year old Ni Made Susilawati, suffered severe wounds to the hand, which is considered a high risk area, and as such received both anti-rabies serum (SAR) and vaccine (VAR) at Klungkung II Health Center, according to a report by Bali Post
as confirmed yesterday by the head of Klungkung Agriculture Service
officers from the Klungkung Agricultural Service carried out 120 vaccinations on dogs in Tegak village yesterday
Juanida stressed the importance of regular vaccinations and keeping pet dogs on a tighter leash
when allowed to mingle with wild street dogs
With an estimated 500,000 stray dogs roaming the streets of Bali, rabies is not a new problem. In 2015, 15 Bali residents died as a result of rabid dog bites. Since then
cases have declined thanks to the mass rabies eradication program
carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare in 2017
According to the ministry’s report, the sweep saw 85 percent of the stray dog population across 716 Bali villages vaccinated against the virus
Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that 16 rabies-positive street dogs had to be euthanized
but it should have stated the dogs were euthanized based on suspicion they had rabies

Three local residents at a village in Klungkung regency were bitten by a rabies-infected dog
prompting the local animal health agency to carry out efforts to curb the issue
“After we investigated further, we found that they were bitten by the same dog. The dog is positively rabies-infected,” said Anak Agung Raka Arnawa, who heads the local chapter of the Animal Health Department, as quoted by Bali Post.
Arnawa added that the dog in question has been found and medically examined
in an effort to find out more about its health
he said a team has been dispatched to find and examine other dogs surrounding Dawan Kelod Village in Klungkung regency
Arnawa said his team will follow this up with a mass vaccination for the local dogs
while the local health agency will also provide vaccines for family members of those who had been bitten
On Tuesday, three residents from Klungkung regency’s Akah Village had also been bitten by a rabies-infected dog
Whereas on Sunday, a 22-year-old man from Paksebali Village – also in Klungkung – died on Sunday after being bitten by a rabies-infected dog three months ago
His was reportedly the first death from rabies in three years in Bali
Rabies has long been a persistent problem on the Island of the Gods. According to a Bali Post report in March of this year, 105 villages in Bali still report cases of rabies.
Earlier this year, the provincial government announced its plans to realize a rabies-free Bali before 2020
In addition, the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture has reportedly allocated IDR18 billion (US$1.24 million) and provide over half a million vaccines to tackle the rabies problem in Bali
We’ve written about whales being found dead on beaches in Bali several times before
A wounded black sperm whale was found washed ashore on Lepang Beach in Takmung Village
The giant sea mammal was found with wounds on its body
“Our Balawista [Balinese beach guards] team immediately went to the location to check the whale’s condition,” said I Putu Widiada
a head officer of the Klungkung chapter of the Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD)
It is estimated that the beached whale weighed around 3 tons and was 10 meters in length
The whale was reportedly wounded after it got trapped amid reefs in shallow waters
Video shows local residents and authorities coming together to push the whale back out into the water and
they managed to return the animal back to the sea.
The whale reportedly blew out water as it swam back into the ocean
