She considered the arrival unlikely to happen
"We have confirmed directly with the Yayasan Graha Kasih Indonesia
They responded that Ronaldo has not been able to come to Kupang," said Rita in Kupang on Wednesday
we received a letter from the Chairperson of the Provincial Association of NTT PSSI and the GKI Foundation about Ronaldo's visit to make a courtesy visit to the NTT Provincial Government
The meeting was scheduled today but canceled because Ronaldo had not arrived," Rita said again
The Secretary of the Provincial Association of NTT Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI)
He only accompanied Rita Wisang when talking to the press
The news of Ronaldo's arrival previously raised doubts
He affirmed that the news of Ronaldo's arrival in NTT was a lie
"Many believed Ronaldo would come to Kupang
that's a lie," said Martunis in a video uploaded on the @martunisronaldo YouTube account
this news is absurd because the Arab League competition is still ongoing
and Ronaldo finds it difficult to get a break
Ronaldo was still seen watching Padel matches with his two children
Martunis admitted to having communicated directly with Ronaldo's manager
Martunis believes that the news of Ronaldo's arrival is not based on strong grounds
Even the police have not received instructions to secure Ronaldo

KOMPAS - Transportation access on Timor Raya Road
damage to the route connecting Kupang City with Dili
The public considers the government slow in responding to this situation
The collapsed road section in question is located precisely in Niki-niki
the point is approximately 130 kilometers away
while from Dili it is about 260 kilometers
The movement of the ground caused fractures stretching tens of meters
Drivers passing through must exercise caution and are guided by local residents
Vehicles from both directions alternately passed through the temporary road
"This road has been damaged for more than a month
but until now there has been no repair at all
it is feared that this road will be completely cut off," said Monce Amatiran (35)
He advised drivers to avoid passing through that point at night
landslides are feared to occur suddenly and go unnoticed due to the lack of lighting in the area
a resident of Kupang City who had just passed through that point
expressed disappointment with the government's slow response
thousands of vehicles pass through that location
transporting tens of thousands of people and thousands of tons of goods
"The government seems to be turning a blind eye to this condition
Is it true that our officials don't care or does the country no longer have a budget for repairs
Head of the National Road Implementation Center in NTT Agustinus Junto and Head of the NTT Public Works and Public Housing Agency Benyamin Nahak have not responded to Kompas' questions regarding the road damage
Jalan Timor Raya is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works
heavy rain poured down on almost all areas on Timor Island

It’s a place of memory—a place I first visited over a decade ago in 2012
as an eager student intern in the Ministry of Environment
on my way from the El Tari airport to my hotel
faraway town that seemed blissfully immune to the frantic pace of Jakarta
the people here weren’t poor in spirit; they radiated a contentment that was
as rich as or maybe richer than anything I’d encountered before
and I found it subtly but undeniably changed
there was a growing hum of development—new roads
and the palpable energy of a place straddling two worlds
Kupang was starting to catch up with Jakarta’s relentless tempo
swept into the tide of modernisation and market economy that has left few corners of the world untouched
fast-food chains available for uninterrupted service from early morning to late evening
I found myself drawn back to Baudrillard’s concept of simulacra
which I’d taught to students for years in the Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia
a simulation of Jakarta’s developmental model: a vision of progress crafted by infrastructure projects and paved highways that promise a better future
The loss of communal spaces and time—siestas
marketplaces and the ebb and flow of Kupang’s slower pace of life
Lefebvre’s concept of ‘produced space,’ where landscapes are shaped by social interactions
is perhaps even more visible in Kupang’s border neighbour
Largely populated by the indigenous Atoni people
bound by its own mix of indigenous customs and cultural hybridity
once a rugged path through untamed terrain
is now lined with construction—a visible line of ‘progress’ through what was once considered feral and untouchable land
This border zone has become not only a territorial marker but a site of economic opportunity
a boundary defined as much by capital flows as by the interactions of those who live within its spaces
Border towns like Atambua - where I visited twice in 2022
first in March then in November - encapsulate this production of space
where physical landscapes morph to fit the aspirations of those in power
Once a small border town with the pace of a village
Atambua is turning into a cross-border economic zone
symbolising the promise of the ‘better life’ that development supposedly brings
these changes are a double-edged sword: they’re now part of Indonesia’s push toward regional connectivity
an aspiration that resonates nationally but feels a little more complex on the ground
The farmland here now serves a different function—its purpose transformed by a vision of economic progress that doesn’t necessarily serve the lives it impacts most directly
As I travelled these routes and spoke to people
the question of choice—who gets to choose this future—seemed to hang in the air
the choices offered by capitalism are often no more than simulacra
illusions crafted to create a sense of autonomy where
choices are shaped by distant markets and urban planners in Jakarta
Kupang’s residents may have the ‘choice’ to join the rush toward modernisation
but it’s not clear that this choice will necessarily make their lives better
once a choice rooted in culture and climate
The market vendors who once closed shop and napped in the heat are now being nudged by the changing economy to stay open all day
stretching their working hours to compete with larger stores and imported goods
even if that hustle erodes the very rhythm that once made life here unique
The balance is delicate: people are told to cherish tradition while the forces of change alter the context of that tradition
Kupang is now seen as a stepping-stone—a place to make money and eventually leave for the big cities
The younger generation yearns for the bustle of Jakarta
They pursue the urban ideal that places wealth and material success above community and contentment
Lefebvre’s notion of ‘produced space’ finds new meaning: the spaces once marked by leisurely rhythms and community are being repurposed for economic transactions and aspirations not born here
illustrate the tension between preservation and progress
They stand as testaments to the resilience of communities in the face of the rapid
but the enduring challenge for Kupang is whether it can retain its spirit amid the shifting landscape
expanding infrastructure and the hum of development
contented life is worth the potential of economic opportunities
or remaining in tune with community values
the allure of capital is too strong to ignore
and the shifting landscape signal something else—an uncertain future
where the contours of contentment are redrawn with each new mile of asphalt
At this crossroad of cultures and economies
Kupang and Atambua become a microcosm of a larger struggle: the struggle to reconcile the intangible richness of local heritage with the relentless march of progress
the question isn’t just about choosing between tradition and progress but finding a way to hold on to the essence of both
the challenge is to preserve a space for siesta
and for a kind of wealth that isn’t measured in rupiah
It’s a reminder that not all choices lead to happiness and that
the true wealth lies in the pauses—the chance to stop

NTT Governor: Bishop Turang is the Driver of Community Economy
04 Apr 2025 18:48 WIB · English
KUPANG, KOMPAS - Emeritus Bishop Mgr Petrus Turang passed away on Friday morning (4/4/2025). The people of East Nusa Tenggara have lost a figure who contributed significantly to the development of the region.
The Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, reminisced about Turang as one of the drivers of the community's economy. During his tenure as a Catholic leader in the Archdiocese of Kupang from 1997 to 2024, Turang encouraged the community to engage in farming and livestock raising. "And this was not only for the Catholic congregation he led but for all communities," said Melkiades.
Thanks to that encouragement, the community lives independently through farming and livestock activities. This is particularly true in the working area of the Archdiocese of Kupang, which includes Kupang City, Kupang Regency, South Central Timor, Alor, Rote Ndao, and Sabu Raijua.
Melkiades also hopes that the values inherited by Turang as an economic driver should be emulated by the people of NTT, especially those who serve as leaders at various levels. NTT requires many drivers to advance the region.
Even while battling illness, Turang, when asked about his health condition, instead invited discussions on other matters. To Melkiades, Turang offered advice on various development issues in NTT. Turang loved NTT until the end of his life.
Melkiades also recalled Turang's communication style, which was considered straightforward, outspoken, and firm. This is what made him accepted by all circles. "He left many valuable lessons for us," he said.
Alami Komplikasi, Uskup Emeritus Petrus Turang Berpulang
Uskup Turang dikenal tegas dan teguh dalam prinsip. Pasa masanya, ia menjadi salah satu tokoh berpengaruh di NTT.
Experience ComplicationsThe Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Kupang, Rev. Krispinus Saku, stated that Turang passed away at the age of 78. Over the past few months, he had been battling his illness, ranging from heart disease to kidney failure. "He suffered from several types of illnesses. His condition was a complication," said Krispinus.
Krispinus invited all the faithful to pray for the soul of Turang, who once served as a leader of the Catholic community in the Archdiocese of Kupang. After 27 years as the Archbishop of Kupang, he retired and held the status of Archbishop Emeritus.
Krispinus also confirmed that Turang will be buried in Kupang, where he last served. According to the plan, Turang's body will be departed from Jakarta early Saturday morning and laid out at the Kupang Cathedral.
Before going to Kupang, Turang's body was laid out in the Jakarta Cathedral. Many mourners came. President Prabowo Subianto came and paid his respects to Turang inside the Jakarta Cathedral.
Emeritus Bishop Turang was born in Tataaran, Manado, North Sulawesi, on February 23, 1947. He was appointed as Archbishop of Kupang by Pope John Paul II and consecrated on July 27, 1997. After his retirement, he was succeeded by Bishop Hironimus Pekaenoni, who was consecrated on May 9, 2024.
Among the community of the Archdiocese of Kupang, the information quickly spread. Condolences poured in from various groups who claimed to be close to or acquainted with Turang. Many humanitarian works were accomplished during his leadership of the Archdiocese of Kupang.
Yuven Tukung, Chairman of the Catholic Youth Regional Commission of NTT, stated that in his time, Turang was one of the influential figures in NTT. In governmental political decision-making, Turang's voice was heard.
Likewise for the development of youth organizations, Turang gave serious attention. Not only organizations under the Catholic church, Turang was considered close and accepted by various groups. He was known to be firm and steadfast in principle.
"Farewell Your Majesty and thank you for the love you have shared. Our only prayer is to be happy with the Saints in Heaven," said Yuven.
Goris Takene, a resident of Kupang City, said that Bishop Turang played an active role in creating harmony in Kupang City. When various issues that had the potential to divide unity were raised, he was there to calm things down.
"In 1999, many areas in Indonesia were hit by horizontal conflict. Kupang City was in turmoil but was quickly controlled. At that time, Bishop Turang's voice was very much heard," said Goris.

the Crimes of Police Officers in NTT Were Exposed
10 Mar 2025 17:19 WIB · English
A video of sexual harassment circulated on an Australian pornographic website in mid-2024. The content involved minors, including a three-year-old toddler. Australian authorities investigated the origin of the content and identified the location where the pornographic material was uploaded. The pinpointed location was in the city of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
They then contacted the relevant officials in Indonesia to forward the report to the National Police Headquarters. The investigation began and pointed to Adjunct Senior Commissioner Fajar Widyadharma Lukman, the Chief of Ngada Police, East Nusa Tenggara.
After confirming the evidence was sufficient, the Professional and Security Division team of the National Police Headquarters moved to Bajawa, Ngada Regency, where Lukman was stationed. On February 20, 2025, Lukman was arrested and immediately taken to the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta. He underwent questioning there.
The police then handed over the victims to be given special assistance by the relevant department in Kupang City. "We have been providing assistance for 20 days," said Acting Head of the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Agency of Kupang City, Imelda Manafe, on Monday (10/3/2025).
The Head of Public Relations Division of the NTT Regional Police, Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra, stated that the case is being handled by the National Police Headquarters. The alleged perpetrator is undergoing examination. On Monday (10/3) afternoon, investigators from the National Police Headquarters also questioned several related witnesses at the NTT Regional Police headquarters.
According to him, the examination was conducted to gather information from the victims and other witnesses before the ethics code hearing was held. A total of three individuals were questioned. Details regarding the examination materials fall under the authority of the National Police Headquarters to explain to the public.
Henry also revealed that it was not just molestation. Lukman was also involved in a drug case. Based on the results of a urine test, Lukman tested positive for using drugs. The drug case was processed separately. This means that there was more than one case involving Lukman, and all of them were handled by the National Police Headquarters.
Henry explained that Lukman's case was not handled by NTT Regional Police investigators because Lukman was a Mediating Officer who filled a strategic position within the National Police. The authority to investigate was taken over by the National Police Propam Division.
Kapolres Ngada Ditangkap, Beredar Info Terkait Narkoba dan Pornografi
Kepala Polres Ngada disebut kini sedang diperiksa di Divisi Profesi dan Pengamanan Mabes Polri. Polda Nusa Tenggara Timur belum mengungkap detail kasus ini.
The sexual crime and drug use cases that ensnared Fajar are sad and shocking. "I was very shocked when I found out about Lukman's involvement. I was his lecturer when he was in college and as far as I remember he was not the strange type," said Professor of the Police Science College Albertus Wahyurudhanto who was contacted from Surabaya, Monday (10/3).
According to Wahyu, the case involving Lukman is an indication of deviant behavior in Polri members. "Cases of deviant behavior like this exist and should be detected through routine psychological tests. This is a problem in the development of Polri personnel," he said.
This case, Wahyu continued, could strengthen the public's view of the "iceberg" phenomenon within the National Police. The investigation of Lukman's case is expected to be clear and complete while encouraging improvements in personnel development.
The use of narcotics is more closely related to environmental influences, perhaps one of which is an escape from work pressure.
Cases of sexual crimes by law enforcement, Wahyu continued, are manifestations of deviant behavior and can be strengthened if the living environment is accommodating. Deviant behavior can be detected with close supervision by superiors and routine psychological tests.
Likewise, drug abuse by Lukman. "Drug use is closer to environmental influences, perhaps one of them is an escape from work pressure," he said.
Wahyu reminded that the profession of Polri members is like being a half-angel human. With a code of ethics, members are asked to do good and be an example for the community to continue to do good. Cases of deviant behavior should not be underestimated because they have implications for the Polri institution.
"It must be handled well, followed by improvements in personnel development," said Wahyu.
The case of sexual violence against a minor whose video was uploaded to a foreign porn site is shocking news to the public. How cruel a police chief is to do that with the victim being a toddler.

People and NTT Governor Cry at Turang Bishop's Funeral
08 Apr 2025 13:39 WIB · English
His character is described as firm, tough, and straightforward. However, behind that, he harbors gentleness, generosity, and compassion for the people and the community. For 27 years, he traveled around while doing good deeds.
On the morning of Tuesday (8/4/2025), thousands of mourners gathered around the coffin where he was laid to rest at the Christ the King Cathedral in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. They prayed for him, bid their farewells, and then buried him within the cathedral complex.
He is Monsignor Petrus Turang, the emeritus bishop. Before retiring, he served as the Archbishop of Kupang from 1997 to 2024. He took his last breath at a hospital in Jakarta after battling illness for several months. He suffered from complications, heart disease, and kidney failure.
Sobs that were faintly heard at first grew louder as the coffin was carried by the friars toward the burial site. The coffin, draped in the yellow and white flag of the Vatican, parted a sea of people from inside to outside the cathedral grounds.
The congregation stood to pay their respects. With their hands, they tried to touch the passing coffin before them. Touches, prayers, and tears served as expressions of farewell to Monsignor Turang.
The man born in Tataaran, Minahasa, North Sulawesi, on February 23, 1947, was buried in Timor soil. As the coffin was lowered into the grave, a piece of woven fabric from the Timor tribe was draped over it.
Many people made an impression, one of whom was the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara, Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, who was entrusted to deliver a speech during the Eucharistic funeral celebration. Melki, as he is commonly called, sat in the front row on the right wing.
Melki stepped away from his seat. Upon reaching the coffin, he saluted. After greeting the attendees, Melki fell silent as he was about to express his thoughts about the deceased.
He then spoke haltingly while holding back tears when he said that Monsignor Turang gave great attention not only to Catholics but to all groups in NTT. "He gave himself to everyone," said Melki.
Melki cried again when expressing his admiration for Monsignor Turang, who is considered one of the religious figures who has contributed to Indonesia. "President Prabowo Subianto came to pay his last respects," said Melki. The President came to the Jakarta Cathedral, where Monsignor Turing's body was laid out before being flown to Kupang.
As previously reported, the President knew Monsignor Turang as a good person. The deceased was also considered to always have positive thoughts. In his work, the deceased was also considered to always prioritize the common people.
"He is a good person. Always thinks positively and he always works for the common people. That's what I know," the President said before leaving the location.
Regarding the President's arrival, Cardinal Suharyo stated that the President and the deceased had known each other for a long time and had a good relationship. He also confirmed the existence of a family relationship between the deceased and the President (Kompas 5/4/2025).
He is a good person. Always thinks positively and he always works for the common people.
Monsignor Turang has quite extensive relations, not only domestically but also abroad. Relations obtained from his intelligence and flexibility in socializing. These relations often open the way for solutions to various problems experienced by the community.
Meanwhile, Archbishop of Kupang Monsignor Hironimus Pekaenoni called Monsignor Turang a strict figure. He educated the priests strictly. Monsignor Hironimus was the first fruit of Monsignor Turang's work. It was Monsignor Turang who ordained deacon Hironimus to the priesthood 27 years ago.
According to Monsignor Hironimus, in the foreign political arena, Turang was once involved as a member of the justice and truth commission of Indonesia and Timor Leste. Monsignor Turang was directly appointed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who led Indonesia at that time.
Monsignor Turang has passed away. Many mourned his passing, from the congregation to the governor shedding tears of grief. Rest in peace, Monsignor Turang.
Uskup Emeritus Kupang Monsinyur Petrus dikenal tegas, berprinsip, dan selalu mendedikasikan kerjanya untuk rakyat kecil. Gairah itu terawat hingga akhir hidupnya.

17 Feb 2025 10:35 WIB · English
KUPANG, KOMPAS - World football megastar Christiano Ronaldo is reported to be visiting Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara on Tuesday (18/2/2025) tomorrow. The visit of the Portuguese player is in the context of a social activity with the Graha Kasih Indonesia Foundation.
News about the visit has become increasingly strong following the circulation of a letter containing the plan for a meeting between Christiano and the Provincial Association (Asprov) of the Football Association (PSSI) NTT scheduled for Wednesday (19/2/2025). The letter was signed by the Chairman of Asprov PSSI NTT, P Christian Mboeik.
The Secretary of Asprov PSSI NTT, Abdul Muis, confirmed the planned visit. "Tomorrow (Tuesday) they will land in Kupang to carry out social activities with the Graha Kasih Indonesia Foundation," said Muis.
Muis admitted that he did not yet know the place Ronaldo would visit in the mentioned social activity. The Asprov PSSI party was only informed that Ronaldo would meet them at the office of the Governor of NTT. The meeting agenda revolves around football and the development of NTT.
According to Muis, the presence of Ronaldo can inspire many young people who aspire to become professional football players. "How to train and discipline oneself from a young age to succeed as a football player," he said.
Currently, many children from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) are studying at various football schools both in NTT and in other provinces. Many of them have successfully played at the professional level.
"This visit is a rare opportunity for us," he said.
Since Monday morning, Kompas has been trying to contact the Yayasan Graha Kasih Indonesia to confirm Ronaldo's visit. There has been no explanation regarding this in the media, or on the foundation's official website or social media.
The Head of Public Relations of the NTT Regional Police, Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra, stated that the NTT Regional Police intelligence unit has already received the news. Today at 15:00 WITA, a meeting will be held regarding the plan for Ronaldo's arrival in NTT.
"Certainly, the NTT Regional Police will make a security plan and secure the activities so that they remain conducive and we urge all parties to work together to maintain public order and security in the NTT Regional Police jurisdiction," he said.
Police have also not received information about which points Ronaldo visited. The number of personnel involved in security has not been announced.
Mario (30), a big fan of Ronaldo who currently lives in Soe, South Central Timor Regency, plans to come to Kupang. "Just watching from a distance is fine," he said.
Soe to Kupang is reached by land vehicle in about 3 hours.

Many ships from the base operate up to the waters of Australia
A motorboat measuring around 20 gross tons recently completed a 48-hour voyage from Australian waters in early August 2024
The boat docked at the Pantai Tenau Fishery Port in the city of Kupang
The boat transported various marine products
A crew member went down to monitor the situation
There was a police speedboat anchored about 80 meters away but no officers were seen on guard
several boxes of sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea) were taken out of the boat
"Mostly koro sea cucumbers," said one of the crew members met by Kompas at the port on Saturday (3/8/2024) evening
he asked for his name to be kept confidential
he still sails with the ship back and forth from Kupang to Australian waters
Sea cucumbers are taken from the waters of Australia which are located more than 125 nautical miles or 231.5 kilometers away from Kupang
Divers retrieve them from the ocean floor at depths of up to 40 meters
They use a tool in the form of an air tank with a compressor inside containing oxygen and nitrogen

the price of sea cucumbers is IDR 900,000 per kilogram
divers can survive up to three hours at the bottom of the sea
depending on the supply of air available in the compressor
one diver from another ship died from compressor air poisoning," said the fisherman
Regarding the death of fishermen from Kupang in Australian waters
it was confirmed by Chief Brigadier Robert
This is not the first time that fishermen have died as a result of using compressors," said Robert on Tuesday (August 6
Until Sunday (8/18/2024), many Indonesian fishermen were targeting sea cucumbers in the Australian sea
Kompas had asked one of the crew members to join the sail

Kompas raised the issue of illegal fishing practices (illegal fishing)in Australian waters as a form of campaign for the world to be free from one of these maritime crimes

Regarding the practice of illegal fishing in Australian waters
Secretary of the NTT Provincial Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service Stefania Tunga Boro said that throughout 2024 until the end of July
32 NTT fishermen were arrested by Australian authorities
an average of more than 100 Indonesian fishermen are proven to have carried out illegal fishing
"These illegal fishing perpetrators are embarrassing our country
how hard it is to stop them," said Stefania while pleading for fishermen from NTT to stop illegal fishing in Australian waters
the sea cucumbers are immediately split and their gut contents removed
To ensure that they stay fresh until they arrive in Kupang
the sea cucumbers are processed again by being boiled and then sun-dried
Drums used to boil sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea) in a fishing village in Oesapa
Processing is waiting for the raw material of sea cucumbers which are still being taken from the sea
Kompas visited one of the sea cucumber processing facilities in Oesapa Village
There was no processing activity visible there
"The stock of wet sea cucumbers is running out
Now wait for the fishermen to look for them," said Mano
Mano displayed three examples of processed dried sea cucumber
These include the highest quality koro susu sea cucumber
The selling price varies depending on their size
The cheapest spotted sea cucumber is priced at Rp 500,000 per kilogram
while the most expensive koro sea cucumber is priced at Rp 2 million per kilogram
sea cucumbers are sold to buyers on the island of Java
and Korea at prices several times higher," he said
sea cucumbers are consumed and also used as raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry
The high price of sea cucumbers has pushed fishermen from NTT to risk their lives all the way to Australian waters
They are backed by around Rp 50 million in capital from local investors
They return home with up to 1 ton of sea cucumbers
their total income can reach up to Rp 300 million per boat
which is then distributed according to their agreement
Three types of sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea) that have been processed in the fishing village in Oesapa
the sea cucumbers were taken from Australian waters
said that they are lured by the sea cucumber in Australian waters
Even if we are shot by the Australian army
searching for sea cucumbers in Australia's waters is easier compared to in Indonesia
with the deepest point being only 40 meters
sea cucumbers can be found at depths of several hundred meters
Lidya Woodhouse from the Australian Fisheries Management Authority
suspected that a number of coastal villages in Kupang City and Rote Island were home to fishermen who were carrying out illegal fishing in Australian waters
Australia is very disturbed by the behavior of Indonesian fishermen
If the fishing boat runs back to Indonesian or Timor Leste waters
Australian officials will continue to pursue it until it is apprehended
Lydia hopes that the Indonesian government will discipline its fishermen so that they no longer carry out illegal fishing in Australian waters
She did not count how many fishermen have been arrested
many Indonesian fishermen have been arrested more than once
"My message to the Indonesian Government is to deal with this problem together," said Lydia
She emphasized that the behavior of the fishermen can disrupt the relationship between Indonesia and Australia

The mangrove forest on the shoreline of West Oesapa Village, which is an agrotourism destination in Kupang City
the condition of the mangroves is increasingly destroyed
especially now that they are increasingly filled with rubbish and buildings
A total of 35 Nusa Cendana University (Undana) students, Saturday (20/4/2024), explored the mangrove agrotourism forest in West Oesapa Village, Kupang City, NTT
They carry out observation practice for the mangrove plant ecology course
The students were given the same assignment
which was to observe the surrounding environment
the students concluded that there is severe damage to the mangrove ecosystem
stated that their visit to the 4-hectare mangrove ecotourism location was their second time
The first time was to clean up the trash and this time was to observe the mangrove plants
Local students had previously conducted a similar observation at the location

Biology students at Nusa Cendana University identify types of mangroves in the mangrove ecotourism area in Kupang
Not only Undana, almost all universities and high schools bring their students to research on mangroves in this place. The area is like a natural laboratory for the world of education and research
The mangrove forest remained preserved after The International Fund for Agricultural Development (Ifad) Indonesia collaborated with the Kupang City Government in managing the mangrove area
They constructed a "bridge" corridor through the mangrove trees in 2017
The construction of the bridge and small hut was funded by Ifad
Protecting mangrove forests as well as tourist attractions and mangrove learning centers
The mangrove bridge was originally 300 meters long
winding along the path of the mangrove forest
Complete with a lopo aka small hut as a place for visitors to rest

There must be a division of groups that handle certain locations to plant mangroves as well as clean up the garbage inside them
The disappearance of mangroves along the coastline is due to the urbanization of residents from villages on the Timor mainland
A student from Larantuka has proposed the placement of special personnel to guard the mangrove forests
These personnel would be tasked with cleaning up trash and replanting mangroves that are damaged or dead
as well as prohibiting activities that could endanger the safety of the plants in that area
said that the coastal area that now serves as a residential settlement and previously open land was also a mangrove forest area
The disappearance of the mangroves along the coastline is due to the urbanization of residents from villages on the Timor mainland
they built a small hut on the edge of the beach made of mangrove materials while looking for work in Kupang
livestock pens are also built next to the houses
The building material used is made from mangrove
Other residents choose traditional salt-making as their source of livelihood

is still a severe problem in Indonesia to this day
Economic disparity and lack of parental education on adequate nutrition caused high stunting rates in children
The prevalence rate of stunting in Indonesia hits 24,4% in 2021
Stunting is children's impaired growth and development from prolonged poor nutrition before or after birth
these children suffer from malnutrition and have shorter body height than other same-aged children
they experience slower cognitive development and lower comprehension capability than their peers
Stunting can also be caused by repeated sickness and inadequate psychosocial exposure
This issue pushes the commencement of the community service carried out by the Physiology of Animal Development and Biomedical Science Research Group from the Biology Study Program of ITB SLST
They worked with Kupang Education and Health Agency to organize a seminar on stunting and nutrition for students and parents
the team conducted a cognitive test on children and measured their brainwaves
and A Muh Alif Farhan (Student from Biology Undergraduate Program)
Children 6-8 years old go through significant cognitive changes
in which they start to think logically by processing information from various stimuli
Their cognitive functions are further supported by their temporal and frontal lobe growth
The team invited 112 elementary school students in Kupang to play geometry puzzles within 2 minutes
They also measure the brainwaves of students from the elementary schools they had permission to visit
Equipped with a Muse Electroencephalogram (EEG) device
students' brain activity is recorded while they solve the puzzle
The wave's visualization was observed directly through the Mind Monitor app
The results revealed that 80.5% of the students tested in Takari District have stunting
Takari's environment makes it difficult to perform intensive agriculture
and residents must rely on corn and sorghum as staples
its hot climate causes frequent droughts from time to time
the number of students in Kupang City suffering from stunting was 44%
"The city's environment can be improved to provide better access to food and sanitation
It is more optimal for children's growth and development," the team stated
Albeit the results showed being clear about the situation
the collected data was limited to two elementary schools
so a more extensive collection was needed to obtain a more accurate result
Cognitive ability tests can measure children's capability to process information and formulate a response to a given stimulus
the mental capacity of students with stunting in Takari and Kupang City is lower than average
Malnutrition causes neuron cells to mature slower
Lower cognitive capability hinders children's ability to remember

The dam was built in cooperation between Indonesia and Japan. Megawati also encouraged President Joko Widodo's government to build seven new dams in a number of different districts/cities in NTT

TEKS KOMPAS/KORNELIS KEWA AMAThe Catholic community at Saint Joseph the Worker Parish in Penfui celebrated Holy Thursday Mass on Thursday (28/3/2024)
The Mass was led by Pastor Dami Lengari OCD and attended by around 3,000 Catholic believers
KUPANG, KOMPAS — Thousands of Catholics in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara, attended mass< /a> Holy Thursday
Catholics were invited to practice unlimited love towards all people in need without distinction of ethnicity
“Christians are called to carry out the first and foremost law, namely love. "True love is the basis for believing in God, as well as being called to love one another," said Father Dami Lengari in mass at the Church Saint Joseph Workers Penfui Parish
The Mass was attended by thousands of Catholic devotees who filled the room and courtyard of the church building
The Holy Thursday Mass was intended to commemorate the event of Jesus washing the feet of the twelve apostles as a symbol of selfless service
as well as the last supper of Jesus with the apostles
The mass was colored by heavy rain that poured over most of Kupang City
The first mass was held at 3:00 pm WITA and was attended by around 3,000 Catholic worshipers
the worshipers were greeted by heavy rain and strong winds at the church's entrance

During the Holy Thursday Mass in Kupang on Thursday (28/3/2024)
Father Dami Lengari OCD was washing the feet of the apostles
representing 12 individuals from each community group in the parish
Lengari said that Jesus set an example to serve
many people who have become leaders always want to be served
This mentality has a negative impact on leadership itself
Jesus has set an example of behavior of love and willingness to serve in the event of washing the feet of the apostles
Jesus took off his white robe and wore a tattered black cloth
then he humbly washed the feet of the 12 apostles without discrimination
In addition to washing the feet of the apostles
Jesus also held the Last Supper with the apostles that night
The values from these two important events can be applied by Christian believers in their communal lives
Lengari stated that true love is manifested in a gentle and unlimited generosity and kindness
people are invited to not calculate profit and loss or consider background when sharing with others
many leaders are acting arbitrarily towards the common people because they rarely speak out to defend themselves or retaliate
and follow the will of those considered influential in society," said the pastor from the Discalced Carmelite Order of Indonesia (OCD) in Kupang
all statues or sculptures inside the church are draped with white cloth
as the liturgical color of the Catholic Church
a symbol of purity and sincerity in service
The majority of the attending congregation also wear white clothes even though it is not required by the church
said that the call for love and mutual assistance should continue to be promoted amidst the current difficult situation
the prices of various basic needs have skyrocketed
"The ones who can survive are the wealthy people
while the community who do not have permanent jobs or solely rely on dry land farming are becoming increasingly helpless
Possessions cannot be brought to the grave
except for charitable deeds and compassion towards the less fortunate
The White Thursday event reminds us to emulate Jesus," said Vinsen
The papal nuncio presided over Thursday’s ordination ceremony
a province where the Catholic and Protestant communities date back to colonial times
the local Catholic Church needs a new approach
in a ceremony that saw the presence of 41 bishops from Indonesia and Timor-Leste
on the Indonesian side of the island of Timor
which borders with the much more ethnically homogeneous Timor-Leste (East Timor)
Archbishop Hironimus Pakaenoni stressed this fact in an interview with Hidup Magazine before his episcopal ordination
“In our territory,” said the new archbishop
“as a result of the religious ‘demarcation’ between two powerful colonial powers
who competed with each other since 16th century
establishing good and fraternal relationship among Catholics and Protestants has been a serious challenge
a sense of ‘competition’ remains to this present day.”
Archbishop Pakaenoni was involved in many activities
"I have been in the Archdiocese of Kupang for almost 25 years
which has made it easier for me to identify challenges and opportunities in this huge archdiocese," he explained
In addition to Kupang's “plural society,” migration and urbanisation are issues that will demand the prelate’s attention
“As the capital of East Nusa Tenggara province
the city of Kupang is one of the favourite places for immigrants
who come here in search of a better life," he said
"The presence of people from different ethnic backgrounds from the island of Timor and the Flores Islands poses an economic challenge: workers from the villages have a low level of education
and have more difficulty in competing with urban citizens and are consequently paid less.”
The Church can address all these issues through a new approach
“I believe that the Church must be much more aware of the urgency of changing traditional pastoral methods
moving from a territorial approach to the modern pastoral care of the diaspora.”
Archbishop Hironimus Pakaenoni adopted the pastoral motto "Pasce ofos meas," which means “Feed my sheep”
