TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has recorded thirteen tectonic aftershocks in Southern Halmahera, North Maluku, until this afternoon, October 21. This tally begins with the initial earthquake
revised from the previous estimate of 5.6 magnitudes
Director of the BMKG’s Earthquake and Tsunami
attributed this sequence of shallow quakes to the active subduction of fault lines
“Aftershocks from this series of Southern Halmahera quakes have occurred between 10:24 a.m
and 2:20 p.m.,” he stated in a written release on Monday afternoon
These aftershocks spanned a period of nearly four hours
the agency had already recorded six aftershocks
The remaining aftershocks occurred over the subsequent two hours
the quake's epicenter was located at coordinates 1.10 degrees south latitude and 127.38 degrees east longitude
or approximately 4 kilometers northwest of North Obi in the sea
The tremor originated from a depth of 10 kilometers
Daryono noted that this tremor was felt in Labuha City with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI
meaning it was perceptible to many people indoors
The vibrations were described as similar to a passing truck
there have been no reports of damage caused by the quake,” Daryono affirmed
He also confirmed that there was no risk of a tsunami
Daryono urged the public to remain calm and avoid being swayed by unverified information
he advised people to inspect their buildings for any earthquake-related damage before entering them

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - A tremor resulting from a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 was experienced by residents of Cugenang District in Cianjur Regency, West Java. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded that the earthquake took place on Thursday
the Head of BMKG Region II South Tangerang
approximately 5 kilometers southwest of the central area of Cianjur Regency
The seismic event originated at a depth of 6 kilometers beneath the surface
"This type of earthquake is categorized as shallow
resulting from active fault activity," he stated in a written press statement
Based on reports received from the community
the vibrations caused by the earthquake were felt in Cianjur District with an intensity ranging from II to III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale
described as being clearly noticeable indoors
the shaking registered an intensity of II MMI
meaning they were felt by only a few individuals and caused light suspended objects to swing
The BMKG has stated that there have been no reports of structural damage to buildings as a consequence of this earthquake
This situation mirrors a previous earthquake
reported to have occurred the day before with a magnitude of 2.5
Hartanto further explained that the earthquake that occurred on Wednesday at 09:27 local time was centered on land
approximately 8 kilometers northeast of the central area of Cianjur Regency
While an earthquake was recorded earlier in Soppeng and Bone
a separate seismic event of magnitude 5.6 struck Bolaang Mongondow Timur
just twelve minutes after the earthquake in Cianjur
and its shaking intensity was reported at II-III MMI
The BMKG noted that the Bolaang Mongondow Timur earthquake was the fourth earthquake of the day whose tremors were felt across Indonesia
The first two earthquakes occurred earlier on Thursday
This was followed by the 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Bolaang Mongondow Timur
The earthquake in Bolaang Mongondow Timur generated shaking felt at an intensity of III-IV MMI
An intensity of IV MMI is characterized by shaking that is felt by many people indoors and can cause doors and windows to creak
the epicenter of this earthquake was situated at sea
51 kilometers southeast of the city of Tutuyan
resulting from the activity of faults on the floor of the Maluku Sea," explained Daryono
the same level of shaking was also felt in Bolaang Mongondow Selatan
experienced the tremors at an intensity of III MMI
