Design and Development by Humas SMA Pradita Dirgantara
and Cahyo Maulana Asrofi as the ITS student team who designed the Waste House
ITS Campus, ITS News – Like developing countries in general, landfills in Indonesia are still dominated by organic waste. So that this potential waste is not wasted, three students from the Department of Civil Infrastructure Engineering
Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) designed a waste house as an integrated compost processing facility
This started from concerns about the pile of garbage in the Ngemplak Market
the team consisting of Mochammad Ashar Khanafi
and Muhammad Faisal Sadiqi conceptualized a waste house that was able to reduce the volume of market waste while increasing the economy of the surrounding community

explained that the waste house is a building to collect waste equipped with compost processing
the process starts by sorting the waste generated from activities at the Ngemplak Market
and entering the composting container are carried out,” he explained
In addition to composting centrally in the waste house
Ashar stated that there is a franchise system
namely the collective compost processing by the community around the Ngemplak Market
“It means that people can produce compost independently at home with the source of waste provided by the waste house,” he explained

the waste house is also a means of supporting the circular economy system
He revealed that the compost produced would be sold to farmers and plantation owners
it is hoped that the quality of the food commodities produced can increase and resupply the sales inventory in the market
Ashar said the waste house concept could be applied anywhere by adjusting the characteristics of each region
He hopes this concept can be realized soon
this concept can improve the community’s economy and plantation commodities,” he concluded

UGM students taking the Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) in Ngemplak District
have initiated the “Trash Revolution Movement” to respond to the ongoing waste emergency in Yogyakarta
The Trash Revolution program is intended for the Yogyakarta community
the team conducted the program in two villages in Sleman Regency
namely the Widodomartani and Wedomartani Villages in Ngemplak District
A video program on the Trash Revolution was created at the 3R Waste Processing Site (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle) and crafted into a story to raise awareness about the importance of caring for waste
Trash doesn’t just disappear when it’s thrown away and collected by waste collectors
the community needs to understand the potential dangers and challenges related to waste
especially considering recent fires in Bandung
The Trash Revolution Movement involves composting activities and collaboration with environmental agencies regarding waste separation
The primary goal is to mobilize organizations to engage communities in Widodomartani and Wedomartani Villages to manage waste together
Other parties can initiate collaboration for further processing once the waste is separated into organic and inorganic categories
Inorganic waste can be managed in partnership with waste banks
while organic waste can be processed into compost
Organic waste decomposes more quickly because organisms break it down
but it must be separated from inorganic waste like plastic
If organic waste is trapped inside plastic
it will increase the volume of waste that is difficult to sort and can cause odors
Organic waste can also be used as maggot feed
be used as animal feed because they are rich in protein
The waste issue has always been an unsolved problem because waste management from the source to the final disposal is unclear
It starts with waste not being separated at the source
which leads to mixed waste that is challenging to manage and causes odors
encouraged her students to separate waste to simplify downstream management
She explained that the waste problem at the source is related to the awareness of the community
This means that the waste issue begins with littering on the streets
leading to mixed waste that is challenging to manage and causing odors
Pratiwi appreciated movements that pay attention to the waste emergency
They shared various methods for managing organic and inorganic waste during their activities
This movement has created a WhatsApp group with nearly 500 members
Raising awareness about waste through social media platforms like Instagram is essential to reach young people and make them more aware of the issue
and several countries have already implemented waste separation
it wouldn’t be collected by waste collectors,” Dr
“Malaysia also has a waste separation schedule
Indonesia is not yet capable of waste separation
so the Trash Revolution is being introduced as a civilized step toward becoming a developed country by 2050.”

Japan announced Thursday that it had agreed to roll out a grassroots grant worth approximately 23.2 million yen or $167,186 for Indonesia
The grant would fund three small-scale community projects
Japan would allocate 9.1 million yen of the grant to make overdue renovations at an Islamic boarding school in Central Java’s Magelang
including the construction of a new classroom.
The BanyuBening Islamic General Hospital -- which lies in the Central Javan sub-district of Ngemplak -- would get 11.5 million yen to purchase medical equipment for pregnant women and newborns
This hospital is also the only healthcare facility in the area to offer midwifery care.
The remaining 2.6 million yen grant would go into purchasing an ambulance for Bumi Sehat Clinic in Gianyar
This clinic has been relying on a single ambulance to serve 17 villages.
“We are aware of how there are big challenges [that Indonesia is currently facing in regards to the] schools and healthcare
Japan could work very well [to help] in those areas,” Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masaki Yasushi told reporters in Jakarta
Yasushi said that Tokyo had received numerous grant requests from Indonesian organizations
The Japanese government decided to pick three projects to fund this time after reviewing each proposal
is still open to the possibility of giving Indonesia more grant aid in the future
“It is important for us to see Indonesia develop
especially to improve the daily lives of its local people,” the diplomat said
Japan has been giving official development assistance -- be it grants or loans -- to Indonesia over the past decades

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rain and strong winds wreaked havoc yesterday, Monday afternoon, October 14, 2024, in Sleman, Yogyakarta
The Head of the Sleman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD)
said the Kalasan sub-district logged the majority of the damage caused by the extreme weather.
but there were a number of material losses," said Makwan on Monday
mentioning a damaged house in Kalasan due to being hit by an uprooted tree.
and Pundong Rejo Kadirojo Villages in the same sub-district
resulting in three people reportedly suffering minor injuries
rain and strong winds also caused a resident's house to collapse after being hit by a tree
a billboard in front of the Maguwoharjo Customs and Excise Office collapsed and was swept away by the wind
Before the incident, the Yogyakarta Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning against rainfall with strong winds that potentially will hit Sleman this week
said that a recent analysis of the vertical profile of Yogyakarta’s air humidity on October 14 ranges from 55 to 90 percent
it is possible for rain clouds to grow in the northern part of Yogyakarta during the day and evening," he said
BMKG Yogyakarta also predicts that from October 15 to 17
rain potential will persist in the region due to several factors
including the wind speed of 26 knots maximum.
This condition was followed by the relatively cold sea surface temperature in the Indian Ocean
"This causes cloud growth to still be relatively insignificant and local in nature," he said.
BMKG Yogyakarta also warned of the potential for high waves of 2.5–4 meters in the Indian Ocean south of Yogyakarta
and northern Gunungkidul for the next few days.
