Probolinggo. The rate of early marriages in Probolinggo Regency
According to data from the Kraksaan Religious Court
approximately 189 children applied for marriage dispensations between January and May 2024
These children sought marriage dispensations because they had not yet reached the minimum legal marriageable age stipulated by law
explained that the Marriage Law requires both male and female prospective spouses to be at least 19 years old
"There are regulations in place for marriage
a marriage dispensation must be requested," Faruq explained on Monday
Faruq noted that the high number of early marriages remains a significant concern
Out of the 189 children who applied for dispensations
"128 children have been allowed to marry
while the remaining cases are still being processed," he said
Faruq detailed several factors contributing to child marriage
including cultural practices where parents believe that children who reach a certain age should marry quickly to avoid immoral behavior
often due to long engagements or premarital relationships
To prevent their children from engaging in premarital sex
both psychologically and economically," Faruq emphasized
He urged parents to guide their children towards positive activities and away from early marriages
Indonesia recorded a child marriage rate of 9.23 percent in 2023
according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS)
This means that one out of nine females experiences child marriage
while the ratio is 1 in 100 for males aged 20-24 who marry as children
The Indonesian government has tried to deter child marriage by introducing legislation that raised the marriageable age from 16 to 19
yet a religious court can still grant an exemption allowing marriage from any age

Mangroves are coastal ecosystems that thrive along tropical and subtropical lines throughout the world (Kauffman and Donato
including spawning and nurseries for fish and crustaceans
Although mangrove forests only account for 0.7% of the earth’s tropical forest area
mangrove degradation accounts for 10% of total emissions from deforestation in the tropics (Giri et al.
Mangroves have been shown to absorb carbon (C) which is globally significant
It is estimated that mangrove soils store C two to five times higher than any terrestrial forest (Kauffman and Donato
In the Indo-Pacific region and the Indonesian archipelago
mangroves store an average of 1,023 MgC / Ha and 1,083 MgC / Ha
A total of 2.9 Mha of Indonesia’s mangrove forests absorbs up to 3.14 PgC (Murdiyarso et al.
mangrove forests in Indonesia have the potential for mitigating global climate change and more than 35% of mangrove forests have been reduced globally since 1980 with a decline rate of 2-8% per year (Polidoro et al.
the development and expansion of aquaculture have reduced mangrove cover by more than 40% in the last three decades (Murdiyarso et al.
Mangrove rehabilitation and restoration programs have been carried out in many areas where coastal protection and ecotourism are added as conservation goals (Donato et al.
absorption of C was added as a goal and strategy for conservation and rehabilitation of project-based mangroves through carbon credit financial incentives (Arifanti et al.
This interest has encouraged measurement and study of the capacity of mangrove forests to store C and store atmospheric CO2
Indonesia contains 20% of the world’s mangrove forests and has the wealthiest mangrove diversity in the world
of which 45 out of 70 species of mangroves exist in Indonesia (Arifanti et al.
50% of mangrove forests in Java are located in East Java Province
which is 18,253 ha from 34,491 ha (Suhardjono
an inventory of mangroves in the province of East Java is essential to access the structure of the forest and its biomass ecosystem
where this research is conducted in fragmented mangrove forests in Pasuruan and Probolinggo Districts
The results showed that there were 383 individual trees from four exact mangrove species observed in the study area
and Rhizophora mucronata with a total density of 2553 mangrove stands / Ha
Rhizophora genus constitutes 93% of the entire mangrove individual; therefore
the average biomass and C stock of mangrove stands are 482.09 ± 159.57 MgB / Ha and 226.58 ± 75 MgC / Ha
soil C stocks constitute 58% of the total reserves of mangrove ecosystems in the entire study area

Unmanned Aircraft (PUTA) carrying health logistics when taking off from the DABN Public Terminal of Probolinggo Port for trial operation
Campus ITS, ITS News – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) collaborated with the Business World Industry (DUDI), namely the Surabaya branch of AirNav Indonesia and PT Aerotek Global Inovasi (Beehive Drones)
to develop an operational system for Unmanned Aircraft (PUTA) traffic
The method called UAVITS was tested in the final at the Delta Artha Bahari Nusantara Public Terminal (DABN) Probolinggo Port Wednesday (7/12)
a PUTA monitoring system was developed to distribute inter-island health logistics
This research is the second year after the previous success with unmanned logistics drone innovation in November 2021
we are focusing on the system,” he explained
the Science Techno Park (STP) Manager of the ITS Maritime Innovation Cluster revealed
was flown from DABN Port to Gili Ketapang Island
this trial proves that PUTA can travel across waters for relatively long distances
“Because it is quite rare that PUTA operates across the sea
(from left) Albertus Gian Dessayes Adriano
and Murdianto Kusumadewa discussing PUTA with the UAVITS system
revealed that the system scans data via transponders
Namely a radio transmitter that will deliver signals to the UAVITS system
the data will process the signal to display navigation from PUTA
This ITS Informatics Engineering Department student said that live monitoring is a superior feature of UAVITS
with a duration of data retrieval every five seconds
It also adds that the UAVITS shows the PUTA trajectory security level information
UAVITS offers a licensing data verification feature that can help drone owners to take off legally and land flights
Authentication is done by uploading pilot documents so that AirNav can verify them
PUTA monitoring with UAVITS featuring PUTA flight path visualization
This research is a collaboration of two departments at ITS
namely the Department of Marine Transportation Engineering and the Department of Informatics Engineering
Not only involving students this research also involved lecturers from both departments
These lecturers include Muhammad Riduwan SKom MKom
Not only that, the research entitled Prototype of Unmanned Aircraft Traffic Operational System (PUTA): Case Study of Medical Logistics Transport Applications in the East Java Airspace was supported by the 2022 Batch Matching Fund (Kedaireka) program by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Ditjen Diktiristek) Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) RI
The ITS research team and partners in the final trial of UAVITS at Probolinggo Port
which was researched from September to December 2022
received positive responses from the two partners
Junior Manager Planning and Evaluation of Tower AirNav Indonesia Surabaya
UAVITS is a promising breakthrough in the middle of the PUTA movement in Indonesia
it can be applied in regulations so that drones in Indonesia can be monitored more deeply,” he said
The same was conveyed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Beehive Drones
He hopes that with the existence of UAVITS
PUTA regulations in Indonesia will become more apparent
This will facilitate PUTA operations in Indonesia and open up industry opportunities
“The opportunity for the industry to be able to supply transponders to drones can realize the sovereignty of the air industry in Indonesia,” said the alumnus of the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering ITS hopefully

he government hopes to develop 10 new destinations that will emulate Bali’s success under the “10 New Bali” program
which aims to attract investment in the tourism sector
One obvious candidate is an island off East Java’s north coast — but the transition won’t be easy
ticks most boxes as a desirable destination: it is near Mount Bromo
one of the government’s 10 promoted destinations
prompting tour agencies to pair the islet and the majestic mountain in the same holiday package
Located 8 kilometers from the city of Probolinggo
Gili Ketapang is less than an hour’s boat ride from a major port
The timid will discover a peaceful outlet for their limited adventure spirit
history and ecology will find puzzles to stimulate the mind
But how to promote all this without spoiling the 68-hectare island
Read also: Protected areas in ocean are key tool against climate change
“This is our dilemma,” said village head Suparyono
“We definitely want more tourists to help our economy and tell the world about us
but we don’t want visitors to start buying land for their businesses or disrupt our traditions.”
Whether their disembarking from the public jetty or beaching a chartered boat on the sandy western tip of the tear-shaped isle
the island upholds a strict ban on littering
and prohibits women from wearing clothes that are too revealing — particularly when swimming
Unsurprisingly Bali’s bikinis are taboo; so is even modest beachwear
women may find it a struggle to keep covered with every crashing wave threatening to reveal a sliver of skin
Gili Ketapang’s beaches are not completely void of visitors; domestic tourists can often be seen camping and frolicking in the sand
the idea of unchaperoned foreigners wandering around the island’s kampung (small villages) concerns Suparyono
“Some locals will want to pinch foreigners
because it’s so unusual here,” he said
“We need to provide tour guides who can explain the cultural differences
We don’t want outside agents doing this
Our religious leaders are not ready to understand tourism yet
But people are friendly and this is a safe place.”
Read also: Indonesia welcomes 1.14 million foreign tourists in April
The entire population of Gili Ketapang is Muslim and majority are Madurese who speak a local dialect
Few locals over the age of 30 understand the national tongue
Those who can speak Indonesian were educated on the mainland or had married into a different community
Visitors to Gili Ketapang will feel like buying a phrase book
Suparyono taught elementary school before taking on his current position as village head and is proud that most people want to stay on the island
“There are 9,671 residents and only six have gone overseas [as domestic workers]
comparing Gili Ketapang to a nearby island that is larger and known for its residents who tend to move to large cities
“There’s plenty of fish because we are conservationists
We don’t use cantrang [trawl nets once banned by the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry]
“Anyone who isn’t lazy can get work on boats or processing fish
Hundreds of boats docked around the island is enough evidence of its residents’ fishing tradition
The children look healthy and there are a lot of elderly people
suggesting a piscine diet that helps the population thrive
the terracotta roofs and whitewashed walls give a Mediterranean feel
authorities are behind on planning; grand mansions front old shacks and narrow tracks of crushed coral
Read also: Reog Tengger: Mount Bromo's must-see attraction
Kitchen appliances of the houseproud don’t get overused as power is rationed
Suparyono said new diesel generators will be relocated away from the school where its rhythmic bang-bang disrupts classes
The island is dry so water is pumped from Java through an undersea pipe
Yards have rain tanks and there are a few wells
every day is car-free – the ferries are too small to carry large goods
An armada of motorbikes has made it across the straits
though more for status as they are poorly suited to the island’s squishy sand and tire-ripping coral
Some have adapted to gnawing cardboard and tissues
Around half the women wear bright headscarves
but not the all-covering jilbab found on the mainland
Sarongs are a unisex fashion and babies are made up like dolls
Another aspect of local lifestyle is practical; properties are fenced not because of theft
but to repel the voracious goats patrolling the perimeters
There’s no formal tourist accommodation in Gili Ketapang
so visitors need to make prior arrangements with householders
there are beds aplenty in Probolinggo’s hotels and guesthouses mainly catering for trekkers heading to Mount Bromo

TEMPO.CO, Probolinggo - Joint officers performed a 'cooling process' after extinguishing forest and land fires in the Mount Bromo area which is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) in Probolinggo Regency
“We are helping officers to cool down the area so that there are no more embers,” the Probolinggo Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) chief Oemar Syarief said on Tuesday
Dozens of members of the Probolinggo Disaster Management Rapid Response Team (TC) together with TNBTS
and volunteers conducted manual monitoring and cooling in the fire-stricken area
“We are using gepyok (traditional fire extinguisher made of bamboo) and water in the cooling process to ensure that no hotspot appears in the sand area of Mount Bromo and its surroundings,” he explained
Oemar also said that there were still hotspots in the Jemplang Blok of Ngadas Village
The cooling process was aimed at anticipating the potential for new hotspots
the TNBTS management has closed all tourist entrances from the districts of Malang
and Lumajang until further notice due to the blaze
“The access is only opened for people of Ranupani Village in Lumajang Regency and Ngadas Village in Malang Regency,” the TNBTS spokesperson Septi Eka Wardhani said
and tourism stakeholders to work together to protect the TNBTS area.
The massive fire in the Mount Bromo area which originated from Watangan Valley Savana Block (Pusung Tumpeng)
also popularly known as the Teletubbies Hill
was allegedly caused by the use of flares by visitors who were taking their pre-wedding photos in the area

Jakarta. Dimas Kanjeng Taat Pribadi, a spiritual leader from Probolinggo, East Java, has been arrested and questioned for alleged murder and fraud.
Dimas has captured the public attention after the news spread that he is able to multiply cash.
He was arrested in Probolinggo on Sept. 22, and accused of killing two of his followers, Abdul Gani and Hidayah Ismail.
Abdul was a key witness in the National Police's Rp 25 billion ($1.9 million) fraud investigation involving Dimas. His naked body was found near Gajah Mungkur Dam in Wonogiri, Central Java, on April 23.
Hidayah, one of the leaders of Dimas's spiritual group, was found dead in Situbondo, East Java, in February 2015.
Police believe the murders were ordered by Dimas.
They have named 10 suspects in the killings, including two active members of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and three former soldiers. Six persons have been arrested, while four others – including a soldier – remain at large.
The initial investigation into the murders led police to probe the fraud.
When Dimas's complex in Probolinggo was sealed off for examination, dozens of his loyalists stayed at a camp nearby, waiting for the return of their spiritual leader and the money he had promised to multiply.
Probolinggo Political and National Unity Office head Yudha Triwidya Sasongko said on Wednesday (05/10) that Dimas's followers gave him cash with the hope that he would multiply it by a 100.
He added that it was difficult to remove the group from the site as they feared they might lose the cash they entrusted to Dimas. The amounts they handed over ranges between Rp 10 million and Rp 150 million per person.
Based on tipoffs from witnesses, the police have confiscated around 500 kilograms of counterfeit gold in Makassar, South Sulawesi, from a house that belonged to businesswoman Najmiah Muin, who died in Singapore on May. 8.
"We confiscated four suitcases containing cash in foreign currencies and a box of counterfeit gold," South Sulawesi Police chief Insp. Gen. Anton Charliyan said.
According to Najmiah's oldest son, Najmur Muin, his mother handed Rp 200 billion in cash to Dimas, who promised to turn it into Rp 18 trillion after several years.
Dimas's exact number of followers remains unclear, but according to some reports, his religious group has over 3,000 members in East Java alone.
One of his loyalists is Marwah Daud Ibrahim, a politician from the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra). She is also an advisory board member of the Indonesian Muslim Scholars Association (ICMI) and a former member of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
Marwah serves as chairwoman of the Dimas Kanjeng Taat Pribadi Foundation, which collected the money from Dimas's followers.
The spiritual group emerged in 2005 and as its leader, Dimas has routinely conducted rituals at its complex in Probolinggo.

The ancient thanksgiving rituals of the Kasada have been part of the lives of Indonesia’s Tenggerese people for centuries. Today, the increasingly unpredictable weather has made seeking divine blessings even more vital for this farming Hindu community.
The Tenggerese live in scores of villages in a national park on Mount Bromo, one of several active volcanoes in Indonesia that is popular with tourists. The park is located near the East Java city of Probolinggo, some 800 km (500 miles) south of Jakarta.
The community have held the Kasada festival since the 13th century Majapahit Empire to express their devotion and gratitude to their ancestors and gods.
Carrying items that include vegetables, fruits as well as goats and other livestock, thousands of Teneggerese trek to the top of 2,329 meters (7641 ft) Mount Bromo, ending their ritual by hurling these offerings into the volcano’s crater.
This year, the festival took place on June 21-22 and many devotees said they hoped it would help improve their livelihood.
“We pray for bountiful land for the year ahead, for the plants to grow healthy,” said Asih, a 64-year old farmer in Ngadirejo village near Mount Bromo, who like many Indonesians only goes by one name.
Asih said she used to be able to harvest her cabbage farm three times a year, but due to the scarce rains, she can now only manage one harvest.
“When there are no more rains, we cannot grow another cycle of crop,” Asih said. “Now they are parched like this,” she said, pointing to the withered vegetables. “Once they are dried out, the roots will not grow anymore.”
Last year, about two-thirds of Indonesia - including all of Java - experienced the most severe dry season since 2019 due to the El Nino weather phenomenon that lasting longer than usual and causing drought that hurt crops and exacerbated forest fires. This year, meteorologists expect more rain, but many farmers are still struggling.
Farmers in Mount Bromo rely on rain and rain-fed lakes for irrigation, but the drier weather has forced farmer Irawan Karyoto, 56, to plant less lucrative spring onions instead of potatoes in his 2-hectare (5 acre) plot.
Both Asih and Irawan were part of the procession of Tenggerese that offered prayers at the temple at the base of the volcano. Asih also brought her 5-year-old granddaughter.
Clutching their offerings, the worshippers then walked across sand dunes to climb to the volcano’s crater.
“To respond to what the Almighty has conveyed through nature, the people must adapt and they should not forget to pray,” said Suyitno, a Tenggerese spiritual leader.

PROBOLINGGO, Indonesia, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Recently, sightings of jellyfish bloom have been reported at Mayangan beach in Probolinggo, East Java, Indonesia. Different kinds of jellyfish, alluring with their translucent bodies and soft tentacles, pulse rhythmically in the water.
The temperature variations of seawater might be the major inducing factor of jellyfish blooms.

an isolated community on the island of Java that primarily identifies as Hindu
is celebrating the festival of Yadnya Kasada this month
The festival honors the 15th century princess Roro Anteng and her husband Joko Seger
the couple asked the Gods for children and were granted 24 children on the condition that the 25th be thrown into the volcano–Mount Bromo–as a sacrifice
Thousands of worshipers on Saturday trudged up an active Indonesian volcano to cast livestock and other offerings down its smoldering crater in a centuries-old religious ceremony
Every year people from the Tengger community gather from the surrounding highlands to throw fruit
into Mount Bromo’s crater as part of the Yadnya Kasada festival
made their way to the top in the hopes of pleasing ancestors and Hindu gods — and bringing prosperity to their communities
“Today I brought a chicken for the ancestors,” said Purwanto
who like many Indonesians goes by one name
carried his own crops in the hopes that casting them into the volcano would bring good luck
“I brought these crops so that my fields will be fertile and I have a good harvest,” he said
tried to catch the offerings using nets and sarongs before they disappeared into the billowing smoke
this reflects local urges not to waste the offerings
Saturday’s ritual marked the second Yadnya Kasada festival since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Indonesia
“It can’t be held in another place or be done virtually,” said Bambang Suprapto
head of the area’s Hindu community association
“But organizers applied strict health protocols and they’ve been tested for the virus so [that] we can protect everyone who attended.”
The month-long festival dates back to 15th-century legends of a princess and her husband in the Javanese Hindu Majapahit kingdom
Unable to bear children after years of marriage
Their prayers were answered and they were promised 25 children
as long as they agreed to sacrifice their youngest child by throwing him into Mount Bromo
Legend has it that the son willingly jumped into the volcano to guarantee his people prosperity
The sacrifice tradition continues to this day — although the Tengger sacrifice their harvest and farm animals instead of humans.
