The provision of nutritious lunches at SDN 2 Pamoyanan is an example that meets standards in the field
This was revealed by Bey Machmudin when he saw firsthand the food menu that the students were eating
it starts with cleanliness in the cooking area
and the place to eat are all up to standards and are continuously monitored by friends in Sumedang Regency," said Bey
the trial of the nutritious lunch program implemented in Sumedang Regency used local raw materials so that it could improve the economy of local residents
So it is hoped that the economy from this area will also grow further," he added

and the cooking method is good and earlier there was a milk drink that was also appropriate," he said

This is based on monitoring in the field when seeing that there was no food left in the dining area
"I saw that all the food was finished
so I felt it was in accordance with the children's tastes," he said
Bey still warned the Sumedang Regency Government to pay attention to cleanliness and punctuality in delivery if the number of students receiving the nutritious lunch program increases
Acting Regent of Sumedang Yudia Ramli said that the trial of the nutritious lunch program had entered its 20th day and was running smoothly
The scheme implemented is collaborative participation from various elements
"This is indeed a scheme in Sumedang
for the first trial in the first month until the 20th day
meaning the costs come from BUMD contributions
then the community and so on," said Yudia
The value is IDR 152 million per month for 420 students in two elementary schools," he added
There is something interesting about the trial of the nutritious lunch program in Sumedang
Yudia explained that it uses local raw materials in Jatigede District

SUMEDANG REGENCY - The West Java Provincial Government supports the development of Jatinangor City of Digital Knowledge
The launch of Jatinangor City of Digital Knowledge was attended by West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman at Technolife Jatinangor
Jatinangor City of Digital Knowledge focuses on the development of knowledge industries from the manufacturing or traditional industrial sectors
and emphasizes the creation of an independent community with strong digital literacy

SUMEDANG REGENCY - The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of West Java Province
directly reviewed the flood location in Cimanggung District
he emphasized the importance of identifying the causes of flooding so that similar incidents can be prevented in the future
there are four affected villages with a total of around 575 families or more than 2,000 people
and according to the Governor's direction
the main thing that must be done is to identify the cause and address the root of the problem," said Herman
Based on the results of the interim review
several main factors causing the flood include the narrowing of the Pangsor Bridge due to piles of garbage
the shallowing and narrowing of the Cimande River
and the conversion of land in the upstream area
"The narrowing of Pangsor Bridge occurred due to the accumulation of garbage
then there was the shallowing and narrowing of Cimande River
the conversion of land in the upstream area made the water flow increasingly rapid from top to bottom
so that flooding was unavoidable," he explained
the West Java Provincial Government together with the Sumedang Regency Government have deployed heavy equipment from the River Basin Center (BBWS) to dredge the river
the West Java Provincial Government is ready to deploy additional heavy equipment
"We will also check the conditions downstream
whether there is a narrowing that causes the backwater phenomenon
namely water that should flow instead flows back due to obstacles," he said
Herman also handed over logistical assistance from the West Java Provincial Government worth Rp289.6 million in the form of goods and basic necessities through the Social Service and BPBD
The assistance was symbolically handed over to the Regent of Sumedang
and the Regional Secretary of Sumedang Regency at the Cimanggung District Office
Herman reminded of the importance of community participation in environmental management
"Don't just rely on the government
Herman said the option of raising the Pangsor Bridge will be reviewed by the Bina Marga Agency and coordinated with the PU Ministry
the bridge can be raised or simply dredged so that the water flow is smoother
"River normalization will also be carried out
but of course by considering the condition of settlements around the river," he said
With concrete steps taken by the government and active participation of the community
it is hoped that the risk of flooding in Cimanggung can be minimized in the future
SUMEDANG REGENCY - The floods that hit parts of Cimanggung District
This situation is based on the latest report from the West Java BPBD on February 23
The flood has occurred since Friday (21/2/2025) and has impacted four villages
affecting the lives of more than 220 families
and submerging one public facility in the area
explained that the flood was caused by the high intensity of rain that poured over the area in the last few days
"We continue to coordinate with the Sumedang Regency BPBD and local authorities to conduct assessments and rapid handling
especially in helping flood victims," said Bambang
landslides also occurred in Sindanggalih Village
The landslide caused cracks that threatened at least 10 houses
Although there were no fatalities in the landslide
the West Java BPBD continues to carry out intensive monitoring and is on standby to carry out evacuations if necessary
"We have provided assistance to affected residents in the form of mineral water
the cracked area has been temporarily covered using tarpaulin," said Bambang
The West Java BPBD also coordinated with the Water Resources Management (PSDA) and BBWS Citarum for further handling steps
to ensure the safety of the affected areas and reduce the potential for subsequent disasters
The situation in Cimanggung District continues to be monitored intensively
while efforts to handle and distribute aid continue to be carried out to ensure that the basic needs of affected residents are met

cooperation with the Izu Peninsula also opens up opportunities for other potential geoparks in West Java
The Sumedang Regency Government itself has designated the Cisaar Valley as a geopark and tourist destination because in addition to having strong biodiversity and natural landscapes
many ancient animal fossils have also been found in the bowels of the earth
"We believe that this collaboration will not only optimize the management of Ciletuh Geopark in Sukabumi
but also encourage the expansion of collaboration for Cisaar Jatigede Geopark in Sumedang
We are working so that this geopark in West Java can join the Unesco Global Geopark Network

CEO of Izu Peninsula Geopark expressed his appreciation for this collaboration

BANDUNG CITY - Acting Governor Bey Machmudin is proud that Excelsa coffee from Sumedang has succeeded in stealing international attention at the 2024 World Brewers Cup
The 2024 World Brewers Cup was held in Chicago
Ryan beat three other brewers from Australia
France and the Czech Republic who ranked fourth
Ryan only lost to brewers from Japan in second place and Austria in first place
Excelsa coffee is a type of coffee with its own characteristics that are different from Arabica or Robusta
For the achievements of Sumedang Excelsa coffee
Bey Machmudin specially invited Ryan Wibawa and his team to Gedung Sate
because this Excelsa coffee from Sumedang brought Ryan third place in the world championship," said Bey Machmudin
Bey invited Ryan and the Ekselsa coffee players in Sumedang to develop this new type of coffee together with the West Java Plantation Service
"We are also proud that West Java has a lot of coffee and they are ready to help popularize it and explain it to the public
Disbun (Plantation Service) is also ready," said Bey
sugar cane and eight other superior garden products," added Bey
Bey is committed to trying to develop every superior plantation product so that it can be introduced to the international world
"We are trying to develop them one by one
and have (economic) potential for us as well," he said
Ryan Wibawa shared his experience during the competition
that it turns out that many in the international world still don't know about the type of Excelsa coffee
"Exelsa coffee is not only new to us
many coffee friends (brewers) from other countries had never tried it
so it's actually quite popular," said Ryan
"This could be a diversity of coffee itself
but it comes from West Java," he added
He explained that Excelsa coffee has its own characteristics
chocolate and spices with a dominant taste that is sweet but not sweet with sugar
"This Ekselsa coffee has a predominantly sweet taste like sugarcane (sugar cane) if I say so
and this Ekselsa can support other coffees
I tried it in the competition," explained Ryan
Ryan tried to combine Excelsa coffee with coffee from Panama and Colombia
"I tried to combine three different coffees and convey the message of the country's spirit
The three coffees are combined with different experiences," he said
Responding to the Acting Governor's offer
Ryan is ready to collaborate in efforts to introduce Excelsa coffee to a wider audience
"The hope is that what I achieved yesterday in Chicago can have a positive impact not only on myself but also on all my friends in West Java," he said
Excelsa coffee processor Rey explained that Ekselsa coffee can be classified as a type of liberoid or liberica
"The type of Excelsa coffee in West Java is a legacy from the Netherlands
with different characteristics from Arabica and Robusta which only lasted 15 years and then were replanted," said Rey
Rey explained that because the tree is tall and large
Excelsa coffee has the advantage of providing oxygen naturally
the greater the productivity of the coffee fruit
it can also help with the natural availability of oxygen," said Rey
Rey added that Excelsa coffee has a different approach to processing so that it can be enjoyed in a cup or shot
"So you really have to first understand the morphology of the coffee fruit
To get Excelsa that is delicious enough to drink
you have to go through a (special) approach
a fairly long process," explained Rey
Excelsa coffee is also available in Cililin (West Bandung Regency) and Kuningan Regency
"Hopefully there will be education from the West Java Disbun
it can educate first that Ekselsa is another type of coffee
so it can be enjoyed first," concluded Rey

to identify in more detail the earthquake that occurred in Sumedang
"Learning from the earthquake that occurred in Sumedang
It is possible that later they will be included in the sources of new earthquakes that occur in Indonesia," he said
another thing that he said is of concern is that the strength of the earthquake is not too big
"There are three things that are of concern
it turns out that there is an earthquake source that is not too big in magnitude
but it turns out to be quite shallow in depth
what are the characteristics of the soil layer in West Java which has various volcanic products
so it can increase earthquake shocks," he said
"This is what makes an earthquake with a small strength but the shaking feels hard on the surface," he added
Then the third is the geographical condition of the area in Sumedang and its surroundings which has a large population and is crowded with buildings
so it could potentially cause a lot of damage when a disaster occurs
Irwan asked the public to be aware of the potential for earthquake disasters
which even though their strength is not very large
"This is something that needs to be a lesson
namely the Cianjur earthquake in November last year
it still caused significant damage," he said
The public is also advised to increase their preparedness and awareness of aftershocks and other potential disasters
Don't forget to continue following instructions from the government
agencies and local authorities regarding the latest disaster information
so you can think more clearly in order to take the next necessary steps

itb.ac.id—Rice has been a staple food for Indonesians
Its commodity significantly influences the national economy
One alternative worth considering is the taro (Colocasia esculenta (L) Schott)
Taro has a more complete nutritional value compared to other types of tubers and has been widely cultivated in Papua and Java regions as both sources of food and industrial raw materials
West Java make taro their leading horticultural agricultural commodity
The taro planted there is called the Pratama taro; its name is taken from the abbreviation of the names of three LIPI researchers who developed it
The Pratama taro is the resulting product between the Semir taro from Sumedang and the Sutra taro from Thailand
The tubers have two varieties: SS 1 (Sumedang Simpati 1) and SS 2 (Sumedang Simpati 2)
Both have been registered as local varieties at the Center for Plant Variety Protection and Agricultural Licensing
under the management of the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia
both varieties of the Pratama taro are unique in their own ways
The SS 1 variety has a yellowish tree with smooth
the SS 2 variety is green with a purplish stem if enlarged
Its tubers are white with purple fibers and the number of saplings is less than the SS 1 variety
the advantages of the Pratama taro have not been utilized optimally
tubers are sold as a whole and usually consumed by boiling
the shelf life of the taro is very short without the appropriate treatment
There are other methods that can be applied to process and increase its economic value
a community service program organized by ITB SITH aims to help Tanjunghurip Village farmers in creating supply chains and more varieties of the taro’s derivative products
It was held on 5-6 August 5-6 2022 at the Ganeas Multipurpose Building with the support of the Agriculture and Food Security Service of Sumedang
Local communities are invited to the hands-on training of processed taro products as well as FGD (Focus Group Discussion) with both farmers and villagers
They were accompanied in creating taro flour
Flour has a low moisture content and promotes longer shelf life
taro flour has a high capacity to absorb water and fat
it can be used as a thickening agent for soup or other processed products
and extend the shelf life of processed meat and cake products.”
Another derivative product that can be made from taro is milk
The beneficial carbohydrates found in it act as the main energy-producing substance for the body
which cannot be replaced with other substances
the carbohydrates can balance acids and bases in the body
Taro sticks are made from taro that are cut lengthwise
they resemble french fries and at first glance
They have a savory taste and crunchy texture
The main purpose of processing taro into sticks is to meet the needs of the community and optimize the use of crops
The hope is that new job opportunities will be created to increase the income of the community and village
taro chips are another healthy snack created to have a long enough shelf life and a good economic value
People seemed to like the snack so the prospect for its development is promising
Aside from conducting a mentoring program that provides guidance in making taro products
the community service team provides training on its packaging and branding design
They plan to help market these products online and offline by farmers and business proponents in Tanjunghurip Village through digital marketing

itb.ac.id—As a country known for its mega biodiversity
Indonesia's locally grown products are bountiful
One of which is taro (Colocasia esculenta)
a carbohydrate producer (23.78%) that can be processed as a substitute for rice
The Tanjunghurip Village there is famous for its Pratama taro
a cross-yield variety between the Semir taro from Sumedang and the Silk taro from Thailand
It was developed at LIPI Biotechnology Research Center in Bogor by Made Sri Prana
whose names are combined and used for the variety’s name
This variety has better productivity and is pest resistant
the Pratama taro has two varieties: SS (Sumedang Simpati) 1 and SS 2
They differ in their physical characteristics
SS2 varieties have fewer saplings that are green in color and purple after maturation
Despite being recorded as local varieties at the Center for Plant Variety Protection and Agricultural Licensing of the Ministry of Agriculture
their potential has not been optimally explored
Processing derivative products from these tubers are still limited to being sold whole and boiling
Residents of Tanjunghurip Village are yet to have the necessary information to raise the selling value of Pratama taros
ITB SITH launched a PPM (Community Service and Empowerment) program that focuses on assisting farmers in Tanjunghurip Village via discussions about the taros’ supply chains and benefits
It is hoped that this program can support the farmers and the community in marketing the crop commodity and optimizing the products as part of their agro-tourism attraction
Wawan Gunawan (Head of the ITB SITH PPM Team)
cultivating Pratama taros takes 7-8 months
"The taros are fairly easy to maintain,” he said
farmers plant them around January to February because of the high rainfall before harvesting them in July to August."
the Pratama taro has proven to be able to improve the farmer’s economy
Its large size as well as its savory and tender taste makes its price to be set above average - Rp10,000-Rp15,000 per kilogram for grade A harvest
The selling value of Pratama taros can still be increased by being processed into other forms of food commodities like flour
ITB SITH shares in-depth knowledge with the local MSMEs about the ways to make food products from Pratama taros
The team organized discussion forums and directed training sessions for two days
hoping that it could help farmers and residents to maximize the prospects of Pratama taros
the discussion carries the theme regarding the economic development of Tanjunghurip Village as an agro-tourism area
The next day was focused on developing the by-products
the diversification of these by-products can bring more opportunities for Pratama taros as a unique souvenir to realize the potential of agro-tourism villages," Dr
The utilization of Pratama taros in various goods can act as leverage in accelerating the diversity of consumption from local commodities
This small step can promote the potential of plants in terms of their increased productivity and consumption value in Indonesia

itb.ac.id - The students of Group 10 participating in the Thematic Community Service Program (Thematic CSP) 2023 in Cikaso Hamlet
have successfully implemented the construction of Public Street Lighting and the installation of delineators
This initiative directly addresses the local residents' challenge of hindered activities due to the lack of lighting at night
especially considering the steep and slippery road conditions in this high-altitude village at 800 meters above sea level
a Geophysical Engineering student from the class of 2021
"We installed 9 lights and revitalized 2 existing PSLs
there are a total of 30 points with 23 delineators along the path from Cikaso to Margawati hamlet and 7 delineators leading to Cipeundeuy Village." The installation of delineators
made from polyethylene (PE) plastic with reflective elements
The delineator installation process occurred from July 27 to July 30
with the final casting completed on August 1
it began with the revitalization of 2 lights on August 5
followed by the installation of 9 lights on August 6-7
The team faced challenges during the program
particularly due to the absence of cellphone signals
making it difficult to coordinate with other groups working on PSL installations in Cipeundeuy Village
The installed lights have various specifications
utilizing both 50 Watt and 30 Watt non-solar lamps
and a couple of 100 Watt lamps for revitalization
While some lights are connected to galvanized poles
others are directly connected to electricity poles
The presence of abundant shade from trees in Cikaso Village makes the use of sensors and solar energy less effective
The hope is that the installation of PJLs (Public Street Lighting) and delineators will enhance public safety during nighttime activities and reduce the risk of accidents
The students have also engaged in other community-supporting activities during this Thematic Community Service Program
experiments with elementary school students
The CSP activity allows students to learn outside the campus
gaining hands-on experience and immersing themselves in community issues
Agil expressed the collective sentiment of the group
"We actually came here to learn with the community and implement the knowledge we have previously gained
the CSP activities next year can be better and give birth to many other fresh ideas to alleviate problems in society."

will leverage generative AI to augment their capabilities to address critical health issues
The Sumedang regency recently tied up with Singaporean doctors' networking platform Docquity to develop and launch the genAI-powered virtual assistant called TehAI
TehAI reportedly has an intuitive and easy-to-use chat interface which community health workers can use to tap into genAI-driven information
It pulls information from a wide knowledge base
the database of the Indonesian Ministry of Health and data sources from the Sumedang government
the use of the genAI platform will initially focus on improving the knowledge of puskesmas workers to diagnose and treat tuberculosis
which are among the top identified health concerns in Sumedang regency
(A regency is a second-level administrative division in Indonesia
tuberculosis in Indonesia has been increasing; from an estimated 800,000 in 2020
cases swelled to over a million in 2023 with recorded deaths at around 130,000 – the second highest in the world that year next to India
Indonesia is working to meet its target of reducing cases of stunting to 14% this year from 21% in 2022
affects one in three people with over 400,000 lives already claimed
The West Java province plans to expand the rollout of TehAI in other regencies following the pilot implementation in Sumedang

BANDUNG - An aftershock earthquake hit Sumedang Regency again
on Monday (1/2/2024) evening with a magnitude of 4.4
Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin immediately coordinated with various stakeholders
The main focus of the West Java Provincial Government is on patients at the Sumedang Regional General Hospital (RSUD)

Bey also understands the situation and condition of the patient and has coordinated with the Ministry of Health to provide two tents as hospital rooms and one operating room tent
"Because there was another earthquake
we also understand that they are traumatized and worried about another earthquake
Although technically the hospital is in good condition
48 patients returned to tents and today the Ministry of Health will send two tents for hospitalization and one tent for the operating room

There were also 14 damaged educational facilities
7 places of worship and 2 public facilities
"This is temporary data and is an emergency response

Guswanto stated that prior to this incident, BMKG had issued an early warning for extreme weather conditions in the West Java region. The early warning was disseminated on February 21, 2024 from 11:30 am to 4:40 pm, four times for areas affected by extreme weather events.
"However, we cannot provide specific early warning for tornadoes due to their small scale and quick formation, making it difficult to monitor on radar," he said.
A house was damaged on its roof due to a whirlwind that hit Sumberdalem Village, Kertek Sub-district, Wonosobo Regency, Central Java, on Wednesday (1/3/2023).
BMKG also monitored the presence of cyclonic circulation in the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra Island which resulted in the formation of a neutral point area with areas of convergence and wind deceleration (convergence) and wind bends (shearline) around the West Java area. This condition can increase cloud growth around the area of convergence and wind bends.
The instability index, which is categorized as moderate to high in some areas of West Java, has the potential to increase convective cloud growth activity on a local scale.
