The Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) is also involved in the SETI project
Surabaya is expected to become a model city for energy transition and efficiency in the building sector
support the achievement of sustainable development goals
and reduce the carbon footprint generated by this sector
Director of Various New and Renewable Energy
collaboration with the SETI project is a form of concrete support from the central government and development partners for the city government to accelerate energy transition at the city level
Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia with enormous economic potential and will continue to grow

“Surabaya is encouraged to become a pilot city for energy transition and efficiency in the building sector in the SETI project
With the hope that its economic growth can go hand in hand with decarbonization measures in order to make Surabaya a low-carbon and sustainable city,” Feby said at the SETI Project Implementation Kick-Off in Surabaya
Director of SUPD I Directorate General of Regional Development
Edison Siagian emphasized that government administration in the energy sector in Indonesia involves two main ministries
namely the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM)
These two ministries have interrelated but different roles in ensuring the management and utilization of energy resources in the regions run well and in accordance with existing regulations
“We are responsible for general guidance
which includes supervision of the division of affairs
we also oversee general policies that apply in the regions and ensure their implementation at the provincial and district / city levels
the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has a more technical role in the energy sector,” said Edison
referring to Articles 375 and 377 of Law 23/2014
the ministry’s duties include technical guidance and supervision related to the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) in the regions
This technical guidance includes supervision of public service units
and development of energy-related policies that support the sustainability of natural resources
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is also responsible for supporting the energy transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources
in line with Indonesia’s commitment to achieving national targets
coordination between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is very important in creating effective energy policies that are in line with the development of energy needs in the regions
Both ministries have a strategic role in ensuring that Indonesia’s energy sector can adapt to changing times
and support the achievement of national targets in the renewable energy sector,” said Edison
emphasized that the implementation of decarbonization in the building sector is part of the sustainable agenda that has been carried out by the Surabaya City Government
the implementation of energy efficiency and the use of environmentally friendly materials in buildings
such as Surabaya City Hall and Joyoboyo Intermodal Terminal
This policy aims to reduce the carbon footprint in the building sector
which is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in urban areas
“Good urban spatial planning should also be carried out to ensure the needs and comfort of city dwellers are still achieved
More massive socialization to development actors and the Surabaya City community is needed
so that they better understand spatial planning policies and the benefits of Green Building implementation
is crucial in realizing a sustainable and environmentally friendly city,” said Ikhsan
stated that now is the right time to start this project in Surabaya
The project is expected to bring significant changes in decarbonization efforts and improved energy efficiency in the building sector
“Surabaya City Government will receive technical support
and participation in urban energy networks through this SETI project
it is hoped that Surabaya can become an example for other cities in carrying out the energy transition towards better sustainability,” said Johannes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Civil society groups across Greater Surabaya are once again staging a protest under the banner of Dark Indonesia (Indonesia Gelap) today
demanding the government pass pro-people laws and revoke harmful policies
A widely circulated social media poster indicates the protest will take place in front of the East Java Regional Legislative Councils (DPRD) building on Indrapura Street
Participants have been urged to wear black
"The protest will begin with speeches and theatrical performances
the demonstration and a dialogue session will continue,” said protest liaison Thanthowy Syamsudin
the protest is a response to government policies that harm the public and weaken democracy
The movement has made substantive research outlining the urgency of its statements
Tanthowy explained that the protest centers on four key demands
such as revisions to the Military and Police Laws and amendments to the Mining and Prosecution Laws
the movement demands a review of policies deemed harmful to the public
and the implementation of the Nutritious Meals Program (MBG)
such as the expanded role of the military and police
state budget allocations for the new capital (IKN)
and the Danantara program,” he added
Students across Surabaya held a similar protest on Monday
during which they pressured East Java House members to contact Major Teddy in an attempt to communicate directly with President Prabowo

Judge Rudi Suparmono has been accused of accepting bribes from the defense team of a defendant who fatally assaulted his girlfriend while serving as the chairman of the Surabaya District Court
the criminal investigation director at the Attorney General’s Office (AGO)
Rudi received the defendant’s lawyer
where he pledged to form a favorable panel and introduced the presiding judge for the case against Ronald Tannur
the lawyer asked for information about the panel members who would try Ronald Tannur
and [Rudi] responded by naming the three judges," Qohar said
"Rudi then notified Judge Erintuah Damanik that he had been appointed as the presiding judge at the lawyer’s request," he added
Prosecutors allege that Rudi received 63,000 Singaporean dollars ($46,068) from Lisa Rahmat as part of the arrangement
who is now serving at the Central Jakarta District Court
The bribery scandal has drawn national attention since Ronald Tannur’s arrest in 2023 for aggravated assault that resulted in the death of his girlfriend
the son of a member of the House of Representatives
allegedly rammed his car into Dini at a parking lot in Surabaya
the Surabaya District Court initially acquitted Ronald of murder and aggravated assault charges
controversially concluding that Dini’s death was caused by excessive alcohol consumption and that Ronald lacked malicious intent
despite video evidence showing him ramming his car into her
The panel of judges also ordered Ronald’s immediate release
The Supreme Court subsequently overturned the acquittal
sentencing Ronald to five years in prison for aggravated assault
although the murder charge was not reinstated
The AGO’s investigation has also implicated a former Supreme Court official
for allegedly accepting bribes from Ronald’s defense team to influence the appeal process

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry is exploring the potential revival of the semi high-speed train project connecting Jakarta and Surabaya
This project was previously designated as a national strategic project (PSN) but was subsequently removed in February 2024
"In accordance with the Minister's direction, we are trying to reassess, to revive the Jakarta-Surabaya semi high-speed train
Whether the route will pass through the center
or south," said Director General of Railways of the Transportation Ministry
Risal also said that the project would be pursued with full private sector investment or through a Government Cooperation with Business Entities (KPBU) scheme
He emphasized that the project would not rely on the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN)
it could be an assignment or direct appointment
we will appoint them (private sector) as the initiator
and it will be auctioned," Risal explained
Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has indeed expressed openness to private sector investment in the train project
He hopes that this approach will ensure the continued development of transportation infrastructure despite the ministry's budget constraints
This is particularly relevant following President Prabowo Subianto's directive to reduce the State Budget and Regional Budget
which resulted in the Transportation Ministry's budget being cut from Rp31.45 trillion to Rp17.73 trillion this year
we are very open to any form [of funding] as long as it does not burden the State Budget," Dudy stated
Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan emphasized the need to enhance transportation assets
These are the opportunities we must seize," Luhut remarked earlier this month

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Persebaya Surabaya CEO Azrul Ananda, expressed his views on the dismissal of Shin Tae-yong (STY) from the position of coach of the Indonesian National Team
He said that communication issues were the main challenge for the South Korean coach
"We all have to thank him for all his work while handling the Indonesian national team
STY's main problem while here was communication," said Azrul in Surabaya
He explained that communication challenges were increasingly complex with the increasing number of diaspora players being called up to the national team and language barriers were a major obstacle
considering that Shin did not speak Indonesian or English
This requires a complex structure involving translators
Azrul also highlighted that during his years working in Indonesia
Shin Tae-yong had not shown any effort to learn Indonesian
He compared this to Indonesian workers in South Korea who are required to understand the local language
Especially for positions or jobs that are international in nature
No one can be world class if they cannot be multilingual," he said
Azrul understands the mindset of the General Chairperson of the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir
who is currently designing a new strategy for Indonesian football
He believes that a large investment in gathering diaspora players requires a coach who is able to communicate directly without language barriers
"I can understand the mindset of the General Chairperson of PSSI
With such a large investment in gathering diaspora players
of course we need a coach who can communicate more directly," he said
Azrul invited all parties to remain optimistic about the future of Indonesian football
"We all must remain aware that this is the best era in the history of the Indonesian football federation
and hopefully our football will continue to move up," he said
PSSI officially announced that it had appointed Dutch coach Patrick Kluivert as the new coach of the Indonesian National Team

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Strategic Project (PSN) plan for Surabaya Waterfront Land (SWL) has been rejected by local fishers who fear losing their homes and livelihoods
The central board of the Indonesian Traditional Fishermen's Union (KNTI) said that the SWL Integrated Coastal Area Project had been imposed as a PSN
"At least 12 fisher's villages in Surabaya will be affected by this project," Misbahul Munir
Surabaya Waterfront Land (SWL) is a project with PT Granting Jaya (Kenjeran Park) as the developer
Work on the project has been approved by President Joko Widodo to manage and carry out reclamation activities on the east coast of Surabaya
The project covers an area of 1,085 hectares and includes the construction of islands A
which will be built in the fish-catching and protection zone of the city of Surabaya
Fishermen at risk of losing their livelihoods
Munir said the dozens of villages affected are Nambangan
There are about 8,000 fishing households in the area.
the fisherfolk are at risk of losing their livelihoods as their sea areas are vanishing
The economic chain of the fishing sector will also be adversely affected
"Politicians should also take this into consideration
Especially the mayor of Surabaya," said Munir
Munir said that this project is a form of oppression and confiscation of the livelihood of the fisherfolk
The government and businessmen always prioritize big investments
coastal communities are increasingly marginalized
The coastal culture of Surabaya is also in danger of being wiped out
"This demonstrates how the state neglects to protect traditional fishers who have nurtured their living environment for generations," says Munir
