The function took place at the Munster Arms Hotel in Bandon to reward Hammies for winning the Simcox Cup for the first time in their history back in March
They got the better of West Cork rivals Skibbereen Community School in the decider by two points
it was a very positive season for Hamilton High School as they were also the last Cork team standing in the Corn Uí Mhuirí as they reached the semi-final stage
They were well beaten by the eventual winners Mercy Mounthawk Tralee
which made the Simcox Cup triumph more impressive as they had to recover from the 2-19 to 0-5 defeat

there was also sadness at the loss of one of Hamilton High School’s best players
The midfielder passed away suddenly seven days after the Simcox Cup success
He was a key player on the team from the very start of the season
He showed his character and determination that despite carrying an injury
the Kilbrittain player came on in the final to help his team over the line
Oisín's parents Christophe and Catherine and sister Sinéad were in attendance and were presented by the school with a framed picture of Oisín in action for the Hammies this season
It was a lovely gesture and it brought everyone in the room to its feet
The team manager Paddy Lordan spoke at length at the function
speaking glowingly about his players and their commitment from the very first day they went back training in preparation for the season
Lordan also spoke passionately about the late Oisín Gillain and how much of a loss he will be
He said Oisín was a real leader in the dressing room and on the field of play
former Cork football goalkeeper and guest speaker at the medal presentation to players from Hamilton High School Bandon
the former Cork football goalkeeper was a past pupil of Hamilton High School Bandon and he spoke of his honour at being invited to such a special occasion
He praised the players for winning the Simcox Cup for the first time and said the achievement will be talked about for years and years to come and will bring the group even closer
Quirke credited the management team for instilling a belief into the players that had always been around the school
The Valley Rovers clubman finished his speech by pleading with the players to mind themselves in the weeks and months ahead on the back of the sad passing of Oisín Gillain

Tributes have been paid to a 13-year-old girl who died in a motorsport racing crash in Co Cork.
The young girl, named locally as Lauren O’Brien from Knockane near Tarelton, was competing in an event at the Cork Autograss Racing Club when her vehicle crashed on Sunday afternoon.
The incident happened at a race track in Castletown-Kinneigh, close to Bandon in west Cork.
The young racer died at the scene, and her body was taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Autograss racing is a motorsport involving buggies or specially modified cars.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Sinn Fein senator from Cork, Nicole Ryan, said she was “heartbroken”.
“Lauren’s passion for motorsport and her bright spirit will never be forgotten,” she wrote on Facebook.
“My deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all affected by this terrible loss.”
Irish racing driver Hanna Celsie posted a tribute on social media on Monday morning.
“My heart goes out to the family and friends of this young, talented girl who sadly passed away after an accident, racing at an event put on by Cork Autograss Racing Club. RIP,” she wrote.
The Road Race Alliance of Ireland extended its sympathies to Lauren’s family and friends.
While noting it represented two and three-wheeled motorsports, and not autograss, the RRAI added:
“We are all part of one wider motorsport family—and today, we grieve together.
Lauren was a young girl with a brave heart and a passion for racing.
“Her loss is unimaginable, and our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to her family, her friends, her fellow competitors, and everyone who knew and loved her.
“When a tragedy like this happens, it ripples through every paddock, every track, and every corner of the racing world.
“No matter what we ride or drive, we all understand the love, the risk, and the heartbreak that comes with this sport.”

A top price of €1,005 in Bandon Marts calf sale this week caught the eye and given the current trends in calf prices and supply slipping off
a four-figure sum looked like it was going to be paid out at some point
The fact that threshold was passed by a Friesian may come as a surprise
but less so when it was paid out on a pedigree heifer calf from the Firmount herd
A special sale of pedigree Friesian heifer calves from James Murphy
Donoughmore hit a good vein of form and they sold from that high back to €740
There were 1,670 calves on offer this week
about 100 head over the same time last year and seven out of every 10 calves were sired by traditional beef breed bulls
Half were Angus-cross alone and there has been no cooling off in price
Angus- and Hereford-cross calves from Friesian dams and weighing 60kg or above it generally sold for between €300 and €500
the likelihood of them making over €500 increased and pushed on towards €600
On a few occasions they were making over €600 with up to €650 paid out
That was for a group of 90kg Angus-cross bulls and there was a nice share of other lots not too far behind them
Some traditional beef breed cross calves from herds with Jersey genetics hit into these prices too
Continental-crosses generally sold along similar lines as Angus- and Hereford-crosses but at the upper end they had a bit more going for them and powered up to and over €700 and even €800 on occasion - with €845 paid out on several 108kg
Friesian numbers have noticeably tailed off and as a result
Prices for the majority of them ranged from €90 to €250 for most of the calves under 60kg while heavier calves broke the €300 mark and like beef crosses
the higher the price went with up to €430 paid for 97kg Friesian bulls

Riordan was in again just ten minutes later putting the city side just two points ahead going into half time
Bandon got back on the board early on in the second as Hicks sent another penalty over to put the side back in the lead by just a single point
With the clock ticking ever closer to the red Bandon gave it one last push to make sure they secured victory

You wouldn’t know where to start when it comes to writing about the calf trade in Bandon Mart this week
it was rare to see a calf not making over €100 and beef calves were comfortably making €300 for the most part
with many - especially those close to 60kg - having opening bids of €300
Friesian bull calves were opening at the same prices and pulling in more bids as they went
It was common to see bidding opening at €400 for traditional beef breed calves weighing around 70kg and as you moved to 75kg and over
auctioneers weren’t slow to open at €500 for choice beef-cross calves of all breeds
higher opening bids were looked for and received for heavy continental-cross calves
Those high opening bids that would have been a rarity in the past happened throughout the sale
whether in the first half hour or as the sale drifted past 6.30pm
Trade was similar in the run-up to Christmas
but that was when supply was a fraction of what it was this week
The standard of calf in the yard was a bonus
with many of those on offer ranging in weight from 55kg to 75kg
The demand is also probably a reflection of the beef trade as a whole
Numbers are starting to slide slightly and that isn’t just resulting in prices holding where they were it was
Angus-crosses made up 43% of the 1,808 calves on offer
while Hereford-crosses accounted for one in five of the calves on offer this week and trade was red hot for both breeds
A general rule of thumb for both saw those close to 55kg or above make from €280 to €380
calves nearing 65kg tended to sell for over €400 and up
then over €500 and even over €600 was possible
Continental-crosses followed a similar course
with the heavier calves especially those nearing weaning weights exceeding €700
Some stand-out groups of Friesians included a group of 21 averaging 64kg and selling for €285
two groups of 68kg Friesian bulls sold for €320 and €355 respectively
while a lighter bunch averaging 48kg followed and made €245
Even the much-maligned Friesian-cross were holding their own
as a bunch of 18 of them weighing 58kg made €190/head
Lighter calves were thin on the ground and were available for between €100 and €200 for the most part across all breeds
with a small number selling for under €100
auctioneer Denis O’Donoghue said: “It was bananas and definitely the dearest sale of calves I’ve ever seen here
It was a proper yard of old-school Bandon calves
It was some sight and that’s a credit to the farmers who doing a super job on them
Angus- and Hereford-crosses were making €500 to €600
These seven-week-old Belgian Blue-cross bulls with CBVs ranging from €105 to €168 weighed 97kg and sold for €730
This one-month-old Belgian Blue-cross bull weighed 82kg and sold for €585

The Blues returned to the RSC for the first time in 2025 for the 3rd round of the Grandons Toyota Munster Senior Cup
This was an opportunity for the youth to begin the club’s defence of the cup in front the 841 returning Blues faithful who were in attendance
The hosts looked sharp in the opening moments with young side on the front foot with the lion share of possession
As the visitors resisted the early pressure
they went on to create a chance of their own through Paul Nnotum who forced Jason Healy into a great save at his near post
The relentless pressure eventually prevailed after the 15-minute mark
as an elegantly dinked pass over the top from Kyle White at the edge of the box set Jan Wozniak through on goal who then took it past the Bandon keeper to draw a foul and win a penalty
Callum Costello stepped up to coolly dispatch from the spot to put the Blues ahead and in charge at after quarter of an hour
The remainder of the half saw the Waterford dominance continue as most of the game was being played in the Bandon half
the Blues failed to increase their advantage
the intensity of their play evidently increased as the young Blues began to create an increasing number of chances as the half drew to a close
Zak O’ Sullivan found himself with a clear sight on goal but couldn’t do much more than test the Bandon keeper Kevin O’Brien
This was shortly followed by a precise passage of play at the edge of the Bandon box
which saw Fidel Pululu unlucky to find his effort fly inches past the far post at the 40-minute mark
The second half started in the same fashion as the first
as the side were eager to increase their lead to prevent any upsets
Wholesale changes took place throughout the second half
but the idea remained the same with some steady defending and impressive passages of play
The best of the Waterford chances in the second half came through Zak O’Sullivan yet again who couldn’t poke a breaking ball in the 6-yard box past Bandon keeper Kevin O’Brien
This was then followed by a Dylan Warren rebound which sailed over the crossbar
As Bandon continued to withstand a lot of pressure in the second half
they were eventually gifted with a golden opportunity to equalise in the final 15 minutes after a defensive mix up which was pounced on by Paul Nnotum who was ultimately unable to find the back of the net
The closing minutes saw the Blue’s young side remain professional which saw them get over the line and hence get the job done
Callum Costello’s spot kicked deemed to be the only goal of the game which sees the Blues get their first win of 2025 and go into the hat for the upcoming quarter final draw

Crescent College Comprehensive 33 – 29 Bandon Grammar School
Dooradoyle was the place to be this afternoon as the second of the Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup quarter-finals took place
Limerick natives Crescent College Comprehensive took on the West Cork side Bandon Grammar School in a tightly contested clash
Crescent were first to strike with a try from winger Gerry Joyce in the sixth minute
Bandon Grammar fought back and were over themselves just five minutes later through Cash Healy to bring the sides level for the first time
The Limerick side responded in the 26th minute with a try from Charlie Fenton
Alan Cleary added the extras to put seven points between the sides
But Bandon levelled it once again in the 30th minute as Calem Harte crossed the whitewash
Rory Golden converted to bring the sides to 12-12
Crescent struck right before the end of the half as Darragh McKeogh ran in with Alan Cleary adding the extra two to put them ahead at 19-12
Bandon opened up the second half with back-to-back tries from Paddy Coughlan and Zach Piper with Golden converting the second bringing the score to 19-24 in favour of the the West Cork outfit
But Crescent were in again as McKeogh crashed over for this second try of the afternoon with Cleary nailing the conversion
Bandon responded with a second try from Zach Piper opening up that gap again with a score line of 26-29
Crescent sealed the deal in a flourish in the final minutes of the game as hooker Alex McNamara was driven over the line
With the addition of the conversion from Cleary the game finished 33-29 sending Crescent College Comprehensive through to the Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup semi-final

Close Contest As Castletroy College Through To Senior Cup Semi-final
Bandon Grammar School claimed a historic first major trophy as a dominant second-half display secured the Munster Schools Junior Cup against CBC
eliminating the roll-of-honour top three one after the other; taking down three-in-a-row champions PBC in the quarter-final
and denying Christians a Senior-Junior double in the final
Shane Murphy and Matthew Buttimer grabbed the tries as Jamie Hicks
Impressive winger Seán Riordan scored two tries in defeat
Bandon piled on the pressure from the opening whistle
Hicks’ fierce carries set the platform and when they used the powerful centre as a decoy
they found space down either wing only for Riordan and Shea Lynch to come up with clutch tackles
Winning captain Mark Whelton produced a line-out steal on the five-metre line before Alex Bramoullé drove over but Cormac McCabe’s terrific defending held him up
It was a brief reprieve as Shane Murphy took the tap-and-go penalty and burst across for the ninth-minute opener
Bandon's Alex Bramoullé celebrates just before the final whistle
Pic: Andrew Conan/InphoHicks nailed the conversion into the wind and soon added a penalty
a flowing Christians’ line-out move got them back into the game
Max O’Riordan’s offload was somehow held by Tiernan Murphy and they worked the ball wide from Hugh Downey to Riordan to score
Shane Murphy got under Christian Murphy from a tap-and-go to prevent another try but Christians snatched the lead on half-time
It originated from a scrum won against the head in the Bandon 22.
Tiernan Murphy almost ducked through before the scrum-half threw a skip pass for Riordan
who looked backed onto the wing but brilliantly dodged over
Quinlan’s conversion stayed wide to leave it 12-10 at half-time
A couple of infringements cost Bandon valuable territory early in the second half but when Christians strayed offside along the 10
the centre didn’t need to worry about distance as he split the posts
Bandon captain Mark Whelton and teammates celebrate the win
Pic: Larry CumminsThe superb breakdown work of Ruaidhrí McElwaine produced his third turnover penalty but they couldn’t land a blow in the opposition half
Bramoullé’s turnover was rewarded with a penalty
and Whelton’s eighth line-out take set the maul.
Hicks’ conversion made it a two-score game at 20-12
Bramoullé was taken off on a stretcher soon after but was back with a bandaged knee for the celebrations
There were a couple of nervy moments before then
Jack Punch was held up over the line by Buttimer and Riordan was twice denied a hat-trick by Hicks and Jack Hurley’s tackles

which is funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII)
aims to provide a Greenway between the towns of Crossbarry and Clonakilty via Bandon
Several route corridor options for the proposed greenway have been developed following the completion of Phase 1
‘Concept and Feasibility’ which included a successful public consultation last year
This second public consultation is being held online through the project website and is now open for submissions
Three in-person consultation events will also be held to encourage stakeholders
members of the public and interested parties to view the route options
meet the project team and give their feedback
The first event will take place at Riverview Shopping Centre in Bandon on May 7; the second at O’Donovan’s Hotel in Clonakilty on May 14; and the third at Ballinascarthy Community Hall on May 21
councillor Joe Carroll said that he encourages everyone to have their say as “every voice matters”
“The West Cork Greenway project has the potential to be a key development for the region
I encourage everyone to take part in this public consultation,” said Mr Carroll
“This is our chance to advance a new green route that will be sustainable
safe and attractive for locals and visitors to the area
The project is currently at Phase 2 ‘Options Selection’ which involves examining potential route corridor options to determine a preferred path

Bandon are through to the third round of the Beamish Stout Junior Super Cup following their 2-0 win over Ballincollig at The Landing Field on Saturday
A goal in each half from Brian O’Donoghue and Jack L’Estange helped the third division visitors to victory over their higher-ranked opponents
Taking bigger scalps hasn’t been unusual for Bandon this season — they reached the semi-final of the Junior League Cup
beating higher-ranked sides Avondale United A
and Lakewood Athletic on their way to the semi-final where they lost to Midleton
and that early cup run was reflected in the league table with six wins and two draws from their opening eight games in the league but recent league results haven’t been great
with just one win since the turn of the year
and they currently sit in sixth position in the table
Ballincollig operate in the second division and are also sixth in the table
seven points outside of the promotion places
but they have plenty of games in hand on all of the teams above them in the table
Despite both sides being short a few regulars
Ballincollig would have still been favourites in this contest and they started well with regular marksman Mark O’Keeffe forcing Bandon keeper Cian Jacob into a save for a corner inside the opening 10 minutes
Two minutes later Jacob easily dealt with a Stephen Linehan free kick from 25 yards
It was the visitors who broke the deadlock however; a surging break from midfield by Chinaza Ogwudiegwu came to a halt when he was fouled on the left side of the penalty area and O’Donoghue’s free kick sailed over Ballincollig goalkeeper Matthew Thompson’s head and into the far top corner of the net
Ballincollig tried for a quick response and O’Keeffe had another effort in the box saved by Jacob for a corner and from the flag kick John Corkery’s header was cleared off the line with the help of the underside of the crossbar amid Collig claims that the ball had crossed the line
Ballincollig’s Stephen Murray picked up a pass wide on the left and headed for goal
but his shot from outside the box flew high and wide
Bandon weren’t without their chances and six minutes later Darragh Collins-O’Brien got on the end of a corner from the left at the far post
but Shane Finn made a good block on his goalbound shot
As the minutes ticked away in the first half the visitors’ Eoin Buckley had a snap-shot in the box go wide as Bandon went in at the break with a narrow lead
The West Cork side got a fantastic start to the second period and doubled their advantage five minutes in
A ball in behind the home defence saw Thompson advance to intervene but L’Estrange won the race for the ball and knocked it past the keeper before firing into an empty net despite pressure from defender Kenneth Murphy
The home side had it all to do but still had enough time to recover
but Bandon’s defence stood firm with Player of the Match Brian McSweeney making an excellent challenge on O’Keeffe inside the penalty area as the striker lined up a shot
Ballincollig continued to press and James O’Mahony fired over from 25 yards on 65 minutes
and 10 minutes later O’Keeffe got in behind the Bandon defence after a delivery from the left; Jacob left his line and the Collig man lifted the ball over the keeper
taking advantage of a poor kickout by Jacob
his shot was blocked by Bandon defender Collins O’Brien

MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP: Bandon Grammar School have overcome Crescent College Comprehensive in a tense affair
Tries from Christopher Woodland and Jamie Hicks were enough to see Bandon Grammar School into the Munster Schools Junior Cup quarter-finals with a tense victory over Crescent College Comprehensive at Virgin Media Park
After Wednesday’s Senior Cup classic between these two schools went Crescent’s way
the Grammar gained some measure of revenge with this three-point victory
They advance to face reigning champions PBC in the quarter-finals after the mid-term break
Bandon’s set piece was fundamental to this success
Captain Mark Whelton dominated in the air as last year’s semi-finalists registered a perfect 14 from 14 on Nick Baker’s line-out throws
The Grammar enjoyed more first-half territory as they marched Crescent backwards through a series of penalties
the visitors were able to force ruck penalties through David Fitzpatrick
Crescent fly-half Eoghan Hogan was sin-binned after taking out Whelton in the air under a chip and chase
Matthew Buttimer came close to a try by skipping two tackles before playing a key role in Bandon’s 20th-minute breakthrough
Buttimer forced a penalty on the Crescent 22
and winger Woodland got in under the radar to score from close range
Crescent got a try of their own within five minutes
the ball went through the hands of their entire backline with Adam Bennett making the break and Gearóid Hickey finishing in the corner
The Crescent fans had a perfect angle to cheer Hogan’s touchline conversion all the way over for a 7-5 lead
Bandon’s four half-time replacements would play a key role in punishing further Crescent indiscipline
Whelton secured possession and Daniel Kent almost broke through off the first phase
who produced the finish to reach for the corner
Hurley’s conversion tailed off as their lead remained three points with 20 minutes to play
Crescent try-scorer Hickey made two major breaks in quick succession to gain ground but that opportunity fell by the wayside with a second movement close to the line
but their line-out didn’t retain the throw
Canniffe showed good hands to deal with Hickey’s bouncing kick ahead but Crescent almost got a lifeline as Bandon looked to put the ball dead
The kick rebounded off of Danny Fitzpatrick’s chest and into Hickey’s hands
only for the dangerman to be bundled into touch before he could react

Presentation Brothers Cork's James Herrick and Louis Dukelow of Bandon Grammar School
A power-packed performance saw Bandon Grammar School eliminate three-in-a-row Munster Schools Junior Cup champions PBC with a statement 20-point win at Virgin Media Park
The Grammar secured their semi-final spot for the second year in a row by avenging their last-four defeat to the same opposition 12 months ago
Jamie Hicks and Alex Bramoullé were among the scorers last spring and both registered tries here
Louis Dukelow and Christopher Woodland were the others to touch down
all of PBC’s scorers from last year’s semi are now starring on their Senior Cup side
Bandon will travel to Fethard Town Park next Wednesday for their semi-final against Rockwell College (2.30pm kick-off)
while CBC meet St Munchin’s at Thomond Park (2pm)
PBC had edged past Bandon to conclude the group stage last December but their unbeaten streak was ended by Munchin’s while the Grammar showed their progression throughout this quarter-final
Savage defensive work by Matthew Buttimer and Isaac Wade earned Bandon their first attacking opportunity
They kicked to the corner and unleashed a driving maul
Oscar McMahon ensured any subsequent Bandon drive was held up
play was brought back for a tap-and-go penalty and on the fourth phase
The centre dusted himself down to add the conversion
Pres capitalised on a couple of penalties to hit back within four minutes
They gained another advantage from their advancing maul and Odhran O’Keeffe’s abrasive carry brought him into contact with the post for a try
Captain David Nolan slotted the levelling conversion
Bandon almost picked up on a handling error as Éanna Burke and Woodland fly hacked forward but the ball ran dead much to Pres’ relief
The defending champions ramped up the pressure with strong running from Callum Harrington
and Harry Geary but Bandon stood firm as Hicks came up with a ruck turnover to see out the first half at 7-all
It took Bandon just five minutes from the restart to vault 12 points clear
Daniel Kent and Bramoullé created the opportunity for the first try and would later team up to finish off the second
Pres’ robust maul defence initially held out but Dylan L’Estrange’s skip pass allowed full-back Louis Dukelow to dive under the posts
Hicks had hardly slotted the conversion when Bandon stripped possession around halfway
Kent charged into the 22 before offloading for Bramoullé to reach the corner
Hicks’ touchline conversion narrowly missed the target
Bandon were exerting their powerful carriers in waves of attack and they moved 24-7 ahead by the 41st minute
They built off a couple of scrums and Hicks made the half-break to send Woodland juggling the ball into the corner
Hicks didn’t make the difficult conversion but added a closing penalty after good work by captain Mark Whelton
At the first March calf sale in Bandon Mart last year
there were just shy of 1,700 calves on offer
Friesian bulls for the home market were making over €100 and a top price of €180 was paid for a group of them weighing 80kg
Fast forward to the first Monday in March 2025 and 2,024 calves went
shipping-type Friesian bulls made from €100 to €220
with a top price of €330 was paid out for a bunch of 10 Friesians weighing 59kg
despite the sale concluding just before 7pm
They weren’t the only group of Friesian bull calves that made over €300 either
with a good share of stronger calves making over €250
Those prices were paid on calves under six weeks of age and it wasn’t all big money for Friesians
with lighter calves still making around €10 to €20 on occasion too
Most Angus- and Hereford-crosses from Friesian dams and weighing over 60kg were making from €300 to a top price of €485
Lighter calves around 50kg sold along similar lines to Friesian bulls
with lighter calves or those from a herd with Jersey genetics tending to be closer to €100 than €200
There was a nice sprinkling of continental-crosses on offer and up to €500 was available on calves up to 70kg and for those pushing on for 80kg or 90kg
there was a strong chance of them exceeding €600
A pair of Charolais-cross bulls weighing 96kg topped the sale
You could almost split this week’s Bandon calf sale into a few categories
those with Jersey genetics in their background breeding - could be purchased for under €100
Friesian heifer calves that are half twins and bull calves nearer 40kg fall into that bracket too and on occasion struggled to get into double figures
with Jersey-cross of Friesian-cross dams mainly made up to €150
Continental-crosses from that type of cow made a share more and on occasion broke €500 proving buyers focus on the calf in the ring and not always what’s on the board
Hereford-cross and Friesians over 60kg had the best chances of making over €250
with the traditional beef-crosses nearer or over 70kg generally making from €300 to €400 and a few exceeding it
Heavy calves were the ones mostly pushing for €500
These five-week-old Friesian bulls with CBVs ranging from -€34 to €16 weighed 58kg sold for €160

Munster Rugby Boys Under 18 Cup Final, Virgin Media Park, Co. Cork 30/3/2025
Daniel Coughlan inspired Bandon Rugby to a 28-13 victory over Old Christians in the Boys Clubs U18.5 Munster Cup final on Sunday afternoon at Virgin Media Park
on a day that saw the club overcome an early deficit after their city rivals went ahead against the run of play
Bandon were dominating possession but unable to take their chances
Jack McNamara went closest to scoring during this spell inside the first five minutes
and the captain went away empty handed after the referee ruled there was no grounding when he burrowed through
It was all one way traffic until Louis Murphy picked off a Brian Galvin line-out on the Old Christians’ 10 meter line
Bandon vs Old Christians: The Bandon team They broke and managed to win a scrum inside the Bandon 22 which led to a box kick finding Ben O’Connell on the left wing
Mark O’Keeffe and Samuel Haberlin kept this drive alive
and Brian Cassin finished it to make it 5-0 in the 12th minute
Cillian O’Flynn single handedly ignited the turnaround by snatching the ball and running the full-length of the pitch from his own 22
Bandon used this period in possession to set up Mark Slattery
and once again the club were frustrated by the lack of grounding cited by the referee
Out of the goal-line drop out O’Flynn was able to charge through to make it 7-5 in the 25th minute and Daniel Coughlan added the extra points
The place-kicker ran over during Bandon’s next period in possession and his second conversion increased their lead to 14-7 in just the 27th minute
Old Christians rallied before the break and the best they could do was a penalty which O’Connell put over
The game restarted at 14-10 in favour of Bandon and O’Connell reduced the gap to the bare minimum with a penalty in the 40th minute
Bandon had two opportunities to give themselves breathing room
and on both occasions Sean Dooley and Eddie O’Sullivan left with nothing over issues with grounding and handling
A penalty led to the third Bandon try with O’Connell kicking to the corner and McNamara got in to make it 21-13 in the 54th minute
The fly-half’s conversion increased his tally for the day to 11 points
Cork 30/3/2025They had one more try in them
and it was Dooley who got his name on the score-sheet before O’Connell converted once again
Scorers for Bandon: D Coughlan 1 try 4 cons

Sean Holland’s team were just getting going when a penalty was given to the hosts over a foul on Jan Wozniak and Calum Costello converted from the spot at the 17th minute
This brings an end to a campaign that saw Bandon defeat Castleview and Carrigtwohill on their way to the meeting with Waterford

Pictrue: Patrick BrowneBandon were up against it from the moment the game kicked off
with the team looking to become just the fourth intermediate side to knock out a fully professional outfit of the Munster Senior Cup in five years
The intermediate side coped with this challenge by keeping their shape
with a large part of this the back-line containing Jack O’Donoghue and Mark O’Driscoll
Kevin O’Brien stood behind them in between the sticks
and the goalkeeper made a string of saves on the night
with their only goal coming from the penalty converted by Costello in the 17th minute
Bandon responded by bucking down by keeping their shape
and the team went into the break trailing 1-0
while the Munster Senior League side stuck to what caused problems for their hosts during the first period of play
Eventually Bandon started rotating their team and that started with a double substitution at the 57th minute with Luke Harrington and Charlie Payne replacing Mark O’Driscoll and Adam Kelly
but an equaliser proved elusive as the clock ticked towards full-time
with the team in the mix for promotion alongside in the First Division
That involves navigating a race involving at least five competitors
a group that includes table toppers Mayfield United and a recently relegated Carrigaline United
Bandon will also return to knock-out football with the club set to play Mallow United later on this month in the Pop Keller Cup

This all-West Cork final pairing drew a large crowd to the Boreenmanna Road venue and they weren’t disappointed in what was a brilliant decider between two committed and honest teams
Skibbereen Community School were appearing in their third final in four seasons having last won this competition in 2022
but they just fell short against a more balanced outfit
They could have snatched it right at the end
It looked like Hamilton High School were going to stroll to victory when they led 0-5 to 0-0 after the first quarter as they were well on top
It was Hammies greater scoring threat that got them over the line
