Jonas Kabangu turned 18 ten days before the murder
He lives at home with his parents and came to Ireland from the Democratic Republic of Congo

his father has medical issues and when taken into custody he displayed physical signs of neglect
Brandon Hennessy witnessed the sudden attack on his father which was described in court as a "horrific and terrifying experience for the 20-year-old"
His involvement in violent disorder lasted one and a half minutes before he carried his dying father from the premises
He has three previous convictions for drugs and road traffic offences
Mr Justice Kerida Naidoo said there is only one sentence that can be passed for murder and he sentenced Michael Andrecut to the mandatory term of life in prison
He also sentenced Juares Kumbu to three years with the final year suspended for two years
The sentencing of the other five has been adjourned until May but because the other two convicted murderers David Amah and the other teenager were children in law at the time of the offence
they do not necessarily face the mandatory life sentence

US-based investment firm Strategic Value Partners’s (SVP) recently-agreed purchase of the Blanchardstown Centre in Dublin was set at a price of €562 million, marking a 25 per cent discount on the value of the retail complex when Wall Street investment bank Goldman Sachs took it over four years ago, according to sources.
The price is also below the €600 million level that SVP was said over the summer to have bid for the centre, covering 1.2 million square feet and housing over 180 shops and restaurants.
Goldman Sachs put the Blanchardstown Centre back on the market last year with a guide price at the time of €650 million-€725 million.
Retail property assets have been hit hard in recent years as a result of a spike in interest rates and changing shopping habits as the Covid-19 pandemic accelerated ecommerce.
A spokeswoman for SVP and spokesman for Goldman Sachs each declined to comment on the value of the deal.
The SVP deal, agreed last month, marks a third change of control over the complex, off the M50 motorway in west Dublin, in less than a decade.
US private equity giant Blackstone spent €950 million buying Blanchardstown Centre from its developer Green Property Group in 2016. Goldman Sachs, among the financial backers of Blackstone’s investment, took control of the State’s largest mall at the onset of the pandemic in 2020 by swapping debt for equity as rental income fell sharply, driven by the liquidation of Debenhams, a former anchor tenant. That deal valued the centre at €750 million.
The closure of the deal comes three months after Eagle Street Partners, a property asset manager founded by two former senior Glenveagh Properties executives, acquired The Square in Tallaght for about €130 million. Receivers had been appointed by lenders AIB in May. Eagle Street partnered with Arrow Capital on the acquisition.

A man accused of a hit-and-run and dangerous driving causing the deaths of a husband and wife after they were struck by a car in Dublin on St Stephen’s Day has been remanded in custody.
John Halpin (45), of Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, made no application for bail when he appeared before Judge Michele Finan at Dublin District Court on Monday.
Anthony Hogg (40) and his wife Georgina Hogg Moore (39) were struck while crossing a road near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre at about 5.45pm on December 26th.
The couple, married with children, lived in the Whitestown area nearby.
Ms Hogg Moore was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband Anthony was rushed to hospital but died that night.
The accused presented himself at Blanchardstown Garda station about four hours after the crash and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, for questioning.
He was charged on Sunday with two offences of dangerous driving, causing the deaths of Anthony Hogg and Georgina Hogg Moore, and two counts of hit-and-run and failing to offer assistance at the scene, at Blanchardstown Road South on December 26th.
Mr Halpin sat silently at the side of the court during the brief hearing. It was also attended by relatives of the deceased who watched proceedings from the public gallery.
Garda Alan Murphy said the accused was initially arrested on Thursday at 10.01pm, and he was charged at 1.04am on Sunday. Garda Murphy told Judge Finan that Mr Halpin was cautioned and “made no reply” when charged before he was handed copies of the charges.
Defence solicitor Damien Coffey said there was no bail application.
Judge Finan remanded Mr Halpin in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on Friday pending directions from the DPP and a possible bail hearing.
She cautioned the defence to notify gardaí in a timely manner and give 48 hours’ notice if they intend to move a bail application on the next date.
Legal aid was granted after the judge was furnished a statement of Mr Halpin’s means, and she also noted there was no Garda objection.
A woman was also arrested during the Garda investigation but has since been released without charge.
A large crowd gathered at the scene of the incident near Whitestown on Friday evening, 24 hours after it happened, and a GoFundMe appeal has been set up to assist the couple’s children, which has raised close to €40,000 so far.

US-based investment firm Strategic Value Partners (SVP) confirmed on Monday it has agreed to buy the Blanchardstown Centre on behalf of funds it manages.
It emerged on August that SVP had struck a deal to buy the retail complex, covering 1.2 million square feet and housing over 180 shops and restaurants, from Wall Street banking giant Goldman Sachs in a deal worth about €600 million to mark its first asset purchase in the Republic.
The Greenwich, Connecticut-headquartered firm said it plans to make significant investments in centre, including enhancements to its food and beverage offerings. SVP will work closely with Fingal County Council, existing tenants, and the centre’s asset manager, Falcon Asset Management, “to elevate the centre’s appeal and strengthen its position as a premier retail destination for visitors and tenants alike”.
The deal would mark a third change of control over the complex, off the M50 motorway in west Dublin, in less than a decade.
US private equity giant Blackstone spent €950 million buying Blanchardstown Centre from its developer, Green Property Group in 2016.

A motorcyclist has died following a crash on the M50 between Blanchardstown and Lucan on Sunday afternoon.
Shortly after 12.30pm, a car and a motorcycle collided on the southbound carriageway of the M50 near junction 7 at the Lucan/Palmerstown exit.
The motorcyclist, a male in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been named locally as Christian Rasmussen, who lived in Co Carlow but was originally from Denmark.
Garda forensic collision investigators have completed an examination of the scene and the southbound carriageway has now reopened.
The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a postmortem examination.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling on the M50 in both directions at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Ronanstown Garda station on (01) 6667700, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
All southbound lanes between junction 6 and junction 7 were closed for a number of hours following the incident.
Passing motorists stopped to assist the injured man. Some blocked traffic while others attempted to provide medical assistance, including CPR, before emergency services arrived.

A man has been charged in connection with an alleged hit-and-run which killed a married couple in Dublin on St Stephen’s Day.
The driver of the car allegedly left the scene of the collision in Blanchardstown after hitting Georgina Hogg Moore (39) and her husband Anthony “Anto” Hogg (40) as the couple crossed the road.
Later that night a man aged in his 40s handed himself into Blanchardstown Garda station, and a car was seized for technical examination.
Gardaí said on Sunday morning the man has now been charged. He is due to appear before Dublin District Court in the Criminal Courts of Justice on Monday morning. It is understood his questioning was suspended on a number of occasions due to medical issues.
Another suspect, a woman, has also arrested. She is being held for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in Dublin.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision to come forward.
“Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday, 26th December 2024, and have camera footage (including dashcam), are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí,” the force said in a statement.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda station at 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
The couple were on their way home in nearby Whitestown in Dublin 15, which they shared with their two teenage children, when they were struck by a car at 5.45pm.
Ms Hogg Moore was pronounced dead at the scene while Mr Hogg was taken for treatment to Connolly Memorial Hospital, where he died several hours later.
The couple’s teenage daughter was with them at the time and witnessed the collision. She was not physically hurt. Another teenage son was not with them at the time.
An online fundraiser set up to support the children has so far raised almost €24,000.

There was excellent news for Dublin 15 and Fingal in the latest IBAL report with Blanchardstown ranked 6th out of 40 towns / cities surveyed with the highest ranking Cleaner than European Norms.
There was excellent news for Dublin 15 and Fingal in the latest IBAL report with Blanchardstown ranked 6th out of 40 towns / cities surveyed with the highest ranking Cleaner than European Norms. That was the finding of the business group Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL)
whose latest survey of 40 towns and cities shows Naas as the cleanest town. Dublin
Dublin Airport Environs was ranked 24th out of 40 towns / cities surveyed and Clean to European Norms
The very positive report on Blanchardstown found that ‘The three approach routes surveyed got the top litter grade and this high standard was sustained for almost all of the remaining sites surveyed. Other examples included the residential area of Blasket Square
Waterville Park (this public park was in great condition) and the Main Street in Blanchardstown – the latter was characterised by some lovely features e.g
large planter boxes and tree planting.’
Waterville Road was described as ‘A freshly presented
creating a positive first impression of the area
This high standard was maintained for the majority of the remaining sites surveyed.’ The findings of the survey in relation to Waterville Park ‘‘a lovely park environment with large pond / paving / grass area etc.’ concluded ‘clearly it is a very well maintained and respected space – a worthy top-ranking site.’ The report praised the quality of maintenance of roads and pavements
grass verges and signage and planting in the Blanchardstown area which led to the positive overall impression created
Speaking about the results Mayor of Fingal Cllr Brian McDonagh said: “I am delighted to see the very positive report on the Blanchardstown area in these IBAL results and would like to say well done to all the Fingal County Council staff whose work is recognised here
Well done also to the community and Tidy Towns volunteers who we see out every day working in their communities and we all need to do our bit by disposing of litter correctly.”
Chief Executive of Fingal AnnMarie Farrelly said: “I would like to congratulate our Operations teams on their fantastic work which has led to these excellent results in the latest IBAL survey
in the Airport environs and particularly in the Blanchardstown area. I would also like to thank the local community and Tidy Towns groups who work with us to enhance our county and would appeal to everyone when visiting our parks
beaches and open spaces to bring litter home or use the bins provided.”
The overall report 2024 saw a further fall in the number of sites within cities and towns that were deemed ‘litter blackspots’
which suggests that local authorities were generally more effective in tackling urban dumping and in addressing sites that IBAL had previously highlighted
The survey also revealed a near-50% fall in the prevalence of plastic bottles and cans in the 500+ sites monitored since the Deposit Return Scheme was introduced last year. For the full report see http://ibal.ie/

Mr Halpin was described as a neighbour of Georgina Hogg Moore (39) and her 40-year-old husband Anthony Hogg
who were struck by a vehicle near Blanchardstown shopping centre on December 26
Her husband was seriously injured and later died at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown
Mr Halpin had originally appeared before Blanchardstown District Court on December 31 charged with four offences
including two counts of dangerous driving causing death
He is also charged with two counts of hit-and-run
Garda Alan Murphy gave evidence of arresting Mr Halpin at Blanchardstown Garda Station just after 10pm on St Stephen’s Day
He told the court that Mr Halpin made no reply when the charges were put to him
During his initial appearance before Dublin District Court no application was made for bail
when the matter again went before Cloverhill Court on January 3 — Friday of last week — defence solicitor Damien Coffey confirmed his client was applying for bail
Investigating Garda Alan Murphy confirmed that there had been an objection due to the seriousness of the case
but he consented to bail with a substantial cash lodgement
but asked for several conditions to be imposed
adding that he had discussed them with the defence
The court also heard the accused had no warrant history
Mr Coffey said there would not be any issue from the defence concerning the terms sought
No evidence about the alleged offences was given during the hearing
and he was required to lodge another €2,000 cash
Judge Mitchell informed the accused that he would be released once he signed his bond in front of the Cloverhill Prison governor later that day
no” when asked if he had an issue with signing on two days a week at his local garda station
Judge Mitchell noted from the defence solicitor that Halpin had already surrendered his passport and ordered him not to apply for a new one or other identity and travel documents
He was also warned to have no contact with witnesses directly or indirectly
or any contact with the deceased couple’s family
The judge added that this included using social media
The judge ordered that he provide a mobile phone number to gardaí at Blanchardstown station within 24 hours of his release and that he must be available on that phone
Judge Mitchell commented that he was dealing with very serious alleged offences
and he warned that there must be “strict compliance” with the bail terms outlined
or gardai could apply to have him remanded in prison again
The standard bail conditions applied including that Halpin to be of good behaviour
but the judge did not accede to a garda request to order Mr Halpin to remain sober because it was a condition “too difficult to enforce”
Judge Mitchell noted that gardai still needed to obtain directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions and ordered Halpin to appear on January 30 at Blanchardstown District Court
The funerals of Georgina Hogg Moore and her husband Anthony were held on the same day Mr Halpin was granted bail
Their joint funeral mass took place at the Church of St Philip the Apostle in Mountview
and was followed by a “celebration of their lives” service at Dardistown crematorium
Fr George Adzato said Georgina and Anto were a devoted husband and wife
who adored their children in a very special way
they loved to go on holidays and were due to go to Spain in January to celebrate their wedding anniversary
Fr Adzato said their tragic end affected everyone in the community
Georgina’s uncle Michael remembered her as a ‘loving
loyal and honest to a fault’ person as he revealed that the plan for the service had originally been that he would speak about his niece while Anthony’s sister Emma would talk about him
Anto and Georgina have been together for so long now,” he said
“So very different in their own ways but amazingly loving towards each other
so proud of the children and always positive
and ironically they’ll never be separated.”
A GoFundMe set up for the couple’s orphaned children has so far raised €68,000

THE man being quizzed over a hit and run on St Stephen’s Day knew the couple who were killed in the horror incident
The Irish Sun on Sunday can reveal the suspect, who was previously jailed over a huge cocaine seizure, often spoke to Georgina Hogg Moore, 39, and her husband Anthony Hogg, 40, close to their home in the Whitestown Avenue area of Blanchardstown, west Dublin
He was tonight still being quizzed by Gardai on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death
The questioning of the suspect was also suspended at different times on medical grounds
He was arrested after handing himself into Blanchardstown Garda station five hours after the couple were hit by an Audi A7 as they walked to dinner with their daughter, who had a miraculous escape
Gardai were tonight still examining the car believed to have driven into the popular couple
“Everybody knows everybody in this area and both Anto and Georgina were just so popular and they always had time for people they didn’t even know that well
“The local community is just focusing on what they can do now to help their poor family through this nightmare.”
As the Garda investigation continues, a special GoFundMe initiative has been launched by neighbours of the tragic couple.
their neighbours said: “Our community was shaken by a devastating tragedy that has left us all heartbroken
“Georgina and Anto were not just cherished parents
but also incredible individuals who touched the lives of everyone they met
“They were always first to lend a helping hand
to support others without hesitation and to spread kindness wherever they went
have been left without their loving mam and dad
“As a community we are rallying together to ensure that Ryan and Becky are supported during the unimaginable time.”

The US investment bank offered the centre for sale last year, seeking about €650m, Bloomberg reported at the time. The selling price is lower than that, the people said, asking not to be identified because the transaction has yet to be completed.
A Goldman Sachs representative declined to comment. SVP, founded by Victor Khosla, also declined to comment. The firm has more than $18bn of assets under management.
After a decade of being roiled by online shopping, malls are starting to become attractive to investors again because declines in rents in recent years have made space more affordable for retailers, meaning there’s less chance they’ll miss payments.
Tenants have also been boosted by 14 consecutive quarters of rising consumer spending in Dublin.
“Capital values for prime shopping centers in Europe have fallen more than 40% since the peak and rental values in the best malls are now increasing, so if yields stabilize there is value recovery potential,” Sue Munden, a senior analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, said of the region’s retail properties in general.
Goldman Sachs, based in New York, acquired the shopping centre from Blackstone in late 2020, when it was valued at about €750m. The complex has 180 stores and restaurants, according to its website, and gets about 16 million visitors a year. Occupants include Zara, Hollister and JD Sports.

John Halpin, aged 45, has been remanded in custody following the deaths of the husband and wife.
He appeared before the Dublin District Court on Monday.
Gardaí are now continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North, between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday, 26th December 2024, and have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station at 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
US investor Strategic Value Partners has agreed a deal to buy the Blanchardstown Centre in Dublin, in one of the biggest commercial property deals in Ireland so far this year.
SVP has agreed a deal with investment banking giant Goldman Sachs to buy the centre in a sale thought to be worth in the region of €600 million. It is SVP’s first purchase in Ireland.
Spokesmen for Goldman Sachs and SVP both declined to comment.
While it will be several months before the sale closes, the agreement likely puts to an end to the process, which was run by CBRE and Eastdil Secured. The Irish Times reported last month that SVP had entered the fray with a bid of between €550 million and €600 million. Goldman had originally put the centre on the market with a guide price of about €650 million.
The deal will be seen as a boon to the retail sector here, coming as it does on the heels of the successful refinancing of loans tied to Dundrum Town Centre, while Eagle Street Partners was named preferred bidder of The Square in Tallaght last month.
Goldman Sachs took over the Blanchardstown Centre from the US private equity giant Blackstone for €750 million four years ago. Blackstone had forked out about €950 million to buy the asset from Stephen Vernon’s Green Property in 2016. The Covid-19 pandemic, however, crippled bricks and mortar retail in 2020 and, by October that year, Goldman was in talks to take control of the mall.
Bloomberg News first reported that Goldman Sachs and SPV had reached an agreement.
The centre includes some 112,000 sq m (1.2 million sq ft) of retail space distributed across 180 shops. The scheme is anchored by major retailers such as Dunnes Stores, Penneys and Marks & Spencer. It also comprises three external retail parks, external retail units, an office block and 7,000 free car-parking spaces.

THE WIDOW OF Jason “Jay” Hennessy Sr, who was murdered in a Christmas shooting, has been accused of setting an XL Bully pit bull dog on gardaí during a drugs and money laundering investigation.
Veronica Maher, 54, faces four serious charges for threatening and endangering the lives of gardaí and possessing earnings from crime.
Her late husband Jason “Jay” Hennessy Sr was fatally shot in Browne’s steakhouse in Blanchardstown, Dublin, during a gathering on the night of Christmas Eve 2023.
She wore just slippers and a blue blanket, which he kept wrapped around her when the mother appeared before Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court today.
Bail was granted with conditions that she not own a restricted breed of dog or engage in drug dealing.
Her daughter and another young woman face connected charges and were also released on bail.
Ms Maher was accused of endangerment of life last Friday at her home on Sheephill Avenue, Blanchardstown.
It is alleged she “intentionally or recklessly engaged in conduct, deliberately let a large restricted breed XL Bully dog from her garden as members of An Garda Siochana conducting beat patrols in the area causing them to flee from this dog that put them in fear as it chased the member”.
That charge, contrary to section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, states the incident created a “substantial risk of death or serious harm to another”.
In the second alleged incident at her home last Friday, it was alleged she made a threat to a garda that she would kill or cause serious harm to him and his colleagues.
The final two charges come under the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing) Act.
It was alleged she engaged in possessing proceeds of criminal conduct, a €10 marked note, that was used as part of an undercover operation to purchase illegal drugs from the rear of her address.
In the final charge, she is accused of possessing €1,350, proceeds of criminal conduct, in various denominations while knowing, believing or being reckless as to whether or not said property was the proceeds of criminal conduct.
She sat silently throughout the brief hearing as Garda Sergeant Michael Harkin told Judge McHugh that she was initially arrested at her home at 12.06pm on Thursday and taken to Blanchardstown station and charged.
A certificate detailing the procedure was then handed into court.
Defence solicitor Simon Fleming told the court that there was consent to bail and agreement to the conditions sought.
Garda Harkin asked that Ms Maher “not have restricted breed dogs in her home and the back door of her property be used for emergency reasons only and not facilitate the sale and supply of drugs.
Judge McHugh added those terms to her bail bond and noting that gardai are awaiting directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions, he ordered her to appear again on 22 July.
Mr Fleming explained that his client was on disability and legal aid was granted.
About two hours later, gardai brought two more women before Judge McHugh on connected charges.
They were Ms Maher’s daughter, Jade Hennessey, 32, also of Sheephill Avenue, and 26-year-old Kayleigh McEntee, of Waterville Row, Blanchardstown.
Ms Hennessy is accused of possessing cocaine for sale or supply at the family home and €1,575 in crime proceeds on 3 April.
Kayleigh McEntee is charged with possessing €6,875 in crime earnings at her co-defendants’ home on the same date.
Garda Declan Meehan and Gavin Campbell said they “made no reply” when charged at Finglas station and there were no objections to bail.
Mr Fleming, acting for both women, said they were unemployed and Judge McHugh granted legal aid.
Neither addressed the court nor stated how they would plead.
Contact numbers must be provided, and they must sign in three days a week. They will return on 22 July for the DPP’s directions.
