All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Finals Captains Call at Croke Park in Dublin The Patrician High School Carrickmacross team that contests Sunday’s Masita GAA Post Primary Schools Paddy Drummond Cup (Senior B Football) Final are a powerful example of why you should show resolve in the face of sporting adversity This group of players didn’t win a single match of football in first year and when they finally broke their duck in fourth year it was one solitary triumph and have been rewarded for that application by reaching Sunday’s Final is a former pupil of the school himself and is hugely proud of the character his team has shown on their journey of self-improvement “When it came to this year they seemed to just decide to click it on a wee bit and put the foot to the metal,” says McEnaney “What's impressed me most about them is that they keep playing to the end In the Ulster Final we played Carrickmore and it ended in a draw and we never lead in the game Then in the replay we never led the game until the last 30 seconds In a couple of games in the group and in the quarter-finals we were behind at half-time but it's a 60 minute game not a 30 minute one and sometimes I've been glad it's been a 62 or 63 minute game “It’s a small enough school with just over 400 students but we’re very passionate about it There have been teachers looking after teams for years before me who have laid a brilliant foundation “We say we that if we demand high standards we can produce high standards Their opponents on Sunday are Roscommon CBS which is somewhat coincidental because they defeated the same opponents in the final of this very Cup back in 1997 The Connacht champions have looked like a very good team on the way to Sunday’s Final but McEnaney is focusing all his energy on his own team rather than worrying about the opposition “You just have to look after yourself when you get this far in the competition," he says "Your main goal at the start of the year is to win a McClarnon and then it's a shot in the dark after that but you're just really focused on how we can produce our best “Once we produce our best I'll be happy out but if we could win it would be massive for the school We've won the McClarnon Cup five times and we've only won the All-Ireland Final once and that was back in 1997 “I did six years myself in the school as a pupil and this opportunity means a lot This is where you want to be playing your football If you're playing schools football in March then this is dreamland especially for these players because as a team they suffered for a long time second or third year and only winning one in fourth year Masita GAA Post Primary Schools Paddy Drummond Cup (Senior B Football) Final Roscommon CBS v Patrician High School Carrickmacross You When deciding which level to book your child into always keep in mind that it is much better to move your child up a class because what they are doing is too easy than moving them down because it is too difficult A negative experience caused by fear can damage their confidence and be much harder to overcome and as such will hamper progress they will feel proud of themselves and this will only enhance their learning experience When selecting the level of class for your child and you have any doubt at all…choose the lower level – Swim Ireland will always move your child up to the next level if they are in the wrong class or the activities are too easy for them your child may not have done swimming lessons before be a minimum of 4 years old and not able to go into the water independently Normally children in this level will be nervous of putting their face in the water and uncomfortable when they are out of their depth or without parental support This level is for beginners who can move around the pool wearing arm bands or swim discs your child will learn to be safe without any floatation aids will learn to move under the water and on top of the water By the end of this level your child will be able to float unassisted on their front and their back and be able to move through the water over 5m This level is for children who can submerge under the water and float on their front and their back without any artificial aids or any physical support from an Assistant Swimming Teacher Your child will be able to move comfortably but won’t have any specific stroke technique By the end of this level your child will be able to show basic kicking action of all four strokes hold a streamline position and be in a position to keep themselves water safe This level is for children who can show kicking action of all four strokes and will begin to learn the arm action and develop their technique over 10m Level 5 is for children who have the ability to swim effective frontcrawl and backcrawl arm actions can demonstrate effective 10m frontcawl with bilateral breathing and 10m backcrawl with good technique In Level 5 children will continue to develop further stroke technique for frontcrawl backcrawl and breaststroke legs and arms actions Will I be able to get changed at the pool?
