Finbarrs' Jack Cahalane breaks from from Carrigtwohill's Sean de Burca during the RedFM hurling league division 1 game at Carrigtwohill
A brilliant comeback victory away from home against Carrigtwohill saw St Finbarr’s bounce back in the RedFM Division 1 Hurling League on Saturday
The Barrs were boosted by the inclusion of Damien and Jack Cahalane
as well as William Buckley’s return from injury
Though they trailed at the break – the Barrs reeled off an incredible 10 points unanswered to lead 1-21 to 2-13 after 50 minutes
The dominant stretch put them in the driving seat
The hosts nailed five points from four different scorers in the next eight minutes
with Jack Cahalane’s free the only one for the Togher side in that time
Damien Cahalane fired over a long range point
Seán Walsh cut the deficit to one with the clock in red
who was quiet by his own ridiculous standard fired a brilliant one from a tight angle in the 63rd minute
It sealed an important win and a brilliant comeback
One that looked so unlikely after their first half performance
Yet they trailed by four at the interval and couldn’t have any complaints either
They had created chance after chance – often as a result of the Barrs’ undoing

The first when Seán Walsh forced a turnover
Sean’s brother Patrick conjured up a chance
Far too many times in the first half the Barrs’ were fortunate not to concede from their own puckouts
Their luck finally ran out at the end of the half
James Mulcahy’s one-handed pull was enough
Shane Devlin’s puckout was superbly claimed by Cork U20 Matthew Barrett
The Barrs had done a lot of things right in the first half and their short puckouts were effective – when they weren’t turned over for possession
Time and time again they had worked their opponents into a corner they couldn’t escape from
Most impressive of all was Seán de Burca’s hook in the 29th minute that denied Jack Cahalane his second goal
Cahalane had landed the first green punch in the 14th minute
He setup Caolán O’Connor after a brilliant solo run
but he was denied by Devlin – until Cahalane pounced on the follow up to knock it home

Bam is also selling 4.2 acres on Castlelake Avenue, Carrigtwohill.
are expected to attract wide-ranging interest due to their proximity to good transport links and several large-scale housing developments
the strategically located sites are for sale in three lots and are on Station Rd and in Castlelake
and within immediate reach of the Carrigtwohill commuter rail line
with a guide price in the region of €600,000 per acre
Lot 1 includes 4.2 acres of commercial-zoned land on Castlelake Avenue; Lot 2
of which one acre is more suited to carparking due to the presence of an attenuation tank for water run-off; Lot 3 is a site in Castlelake with full planning permission for a large creche (978sq m/10,527sq ft) with capacity for 150 children
The creche site is next to a proposed greenway
said the landlord “would be willing to discuss the possibility of building the creche” on behalf of whoever buys the site
is also behind a large-scale housing development in Carrigtwohill — which should eventually deliver 700 homes
Construction is already underway at Ard na Sailí and the first-phase units are due for completion in April/May 2026
Ms Hegarty said the creche site is within a mile radius of the Ard na Sailí development
Other substantial large scale housing development in the area include Murnane & O’Shea Ltd’s Elmbury
The for sale sites fall within the Carrigtwohill Local Area Plan and are zoned “town centre”’ and “neighbourhood centre”
which Ms Hegarty said offered a “compelling opportunity for investors
and owner-occupiers in one of Cork’s fastest-growing town centres”
“This is a rare opportunity to acquire scalable
commercially zoned land in one of Cork’s fastest-growing urban areas
and access to key services make these sites ideally suited for a range of development projects
from healthcare and childcare to retail and mixed-use schemes,” Ms Hegarty said
The lands being offered benefit from proximity to major employers in the pharmaceutical
and are also close to the IDA and strategic employment zone of Midleton
has experienced significant population and infrastructure growth in recent years
with a continued emphasis on residential development

Carrigtwohill's James Mulcahy rescued a draw with his late goal
A brilliantly fought contest between the only non-premier senior RedFM Division 1 Hurling League outfits
the spoils were shared as Carrigtwohill bagged a last minute goal in Carrigaline on Saturday
the hosts started the second half with six points on the trot
The visitors then reversed that with the same feat
Carrigaline battled back to level it for a 10th time in the 54th minute
Under pressure he wrangled free and got his close range shot away
Though his effort was tame it trickled over the line
Substitute Adam Rooney got Carrigtwohill back to within three
Similar to O’Reilly’s effort – but with much more power
Mulcahy drilled it into the roof of the net
Darragh King and Rhys McCarthy were excellent at the back for the hosts
The east Cork side had chances to win it and likely should have
They had double Carrigaline’s wides with a total of 10
but it was the goal chances they failed to put away that kept it all square at the end
Liam Gosnell got away on the break and handpassed to an unmarked Mulcahy
but his shot was brilliantly saved by Cian McCarthy
Cillian Barry couldn’t put away the rebound either
Another chance went astray 10 minutes later
but again McCarthy pulled off a stellar save
it would have been an entirely different game
Equally though they can be pleased having come back from four down at the third quarter mark
The first half was closely fought – with neither side ever leading by more than two and the teams drawing level a total of seven times
It was the visitors who held the advantage at the break
thanks to a point each from James Mulcahy and Cork U20 Matthew Barrett
who was released by the inter-county setup for the first half
Carrigaline moved into an early lead with points from Rob O’Shea and Brian Kelleher
but it quickly settled into a tit for tat contest
Mulcahy and Walsh nudged the visitors two clear after 12 minutes
but Carrigaline quickly responded – a free from Kelleher and a brilliant move between O’Shea
Ciarán Kearney and Drake seeing the latter fire over
Barrett added his first of two scores for the visitors while Drake fired over another impressive effort from a tight angle in reply
A defensive error allowed midfielder Oke an easy point for the east Cork side
but parity would again be restored from the experienced Kelleher
The visitors would then briefly pull ahead – 0-10 to 0-8 at half time
before Carrigaline’s thunderous start to the latter period would see the pendulum swing
Though there were many more twists to follow

Carrigtwohill's Justin Oke clears from Kanturk's Ian Walsh during the Red FM HL division 1 game at Carrigtwohill
One point proved to be the difference in Carrigtwohill as the hosts got the better of Kanturk in their RedFM Division 1 Hurling League clash on Sunday morning
The result means that Carrigtwohill move to fourth in the table with three points from the opening two rounds
level with Charleville and St Finbarr’s who shared the points on Friday evening
That also leaves Kanturk in the relegation zone with Glen Rovers
Seán Walsh impressed as he always does for Carrigtwohill – be it league or championship
There was little surprise to see him top score with 10 points including four from play – but it was his younger brother Patrick that stood out on this occasion
scoring an impressive five points from play
Kanturk’s Alan Walsh continued his flying start to the season scoring 2-2 from play
He couldn’t manage any green flags the first day out against Douglas as he tallied 0-2
but the 3-1 scored in MTU’s Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final against TUS Midwest and today’s haul of 2-2 show he’s going to be a serious goal threat for Kanturk again this season

Picture: Eddie O'HareHaving made his Cork debut earlier in the year against the Déise with a bench appearance during the fundraiser in aid of the Friends of Brian Greene and Waterford Hospice
the Cork management will certainly be keeping an eye on Walsh’s performances in 2025
Kanturk kicked off with a couple of scores to go in front early
but the east Cork outfit swung it around as they landed six points on the trot in reply
the hosts looked set to pull away but Walsh emerged to get the first of two goals and get Kanturk back in the game
When he did find the target they were then two points behind
Just as Denis Walsh’s side went four points clear
Walsh landed his second major to bring the Carrig lead down to the minimum
The teams exchanged points on the stroke of half time so the hosts remained in front
It was a frustrating first half for Carrig who would have felt they should have been further in front
Carrigtwohill's Adam Rooney wins the sliotar from Kanturk's Colin Walsh during the Red FM HL division 1 game at Carrigtwohill
Picture: Eddie O'HareThe hosts fought on in the second period and did manage to stretch their lead back out to three at the 45 minute mark
before almost putting the game to bed with a goal chance
Liam O’Sullivan had his goal opportunity swept off the line to keep the visitors in with a chance
Kanturk did come back at Carrig once again but the east Cork outfit held firm in the closing stages to hang on for the one-point win
Sunday’s strong winds certainly played their part here

Carrigtwohill's Patrick Walsh is tackled by Charleville's Zach Biggane
during their Senior Hurling League clash at Carrigtwohill
A dramatic 65th minute winner from Carrigtwohill centre-back Jay Horgan meant Charleville fell to their first RedFM Division 1 Hurling League defeat of the season in Carrigtwohill on Sunday morning
Horgan’s winning point followed a glaring miss from a close range free for Charleville
with Alan Dennehy hitting it wide in the 64th minute
Carrigtwohill were fortunate that Dennehy’s strike was off target
after frees from Andrew Cagney and Dennehy had drawn Charleville level in added time
Having led by two heading into injury time
the concession of needless frees almost cost Carrig the points – but Horgan’s heroics saved the hosts at the death
Carrigtwohill had continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over and managed to draw level at the break
having been behind by four seven minutes from the interval
Following Dan Casey’s goal for the north Cork outfit in the 23rd minute
Sean Walsh pulled up with three including one free
while ‘keeper Shane Devlin also got one from a placed ball following James Mulcahy’s point
The visitors hit the last two scores of the half through Gareth Gleeson and midfielder Sean Bresnan
Charleville's Gareth Gleeson tries to keep the ball as Carrigtwohill's Brendan Twomey closes in
Picture: David Keane.Gleeson only picked up the one white flag but won three frees for the visitors as the hosts continued to lack discipline
Charleville let this one get away from them
especially after bagging two majors in the opening period as Carrig finished the game with 10 wides
They were without star forward Jack Doyle for most of the game
as he departed after eight minutes with a hamstring injury
They did however have the services of Cork U20 Zach Biggane
who played an instrumental role in the second major
His Cork teammate Matthew Barrett played the first half and got one score for Carrig at wing-back
Charleville's Zach Biggane is challenged by Carrigtwohill's Matthew Barrett
Picture: David Keane. Two minutes after Doyle’s withdrawal Charleville got their first goal
Doyle’s replacement Dan Casey putting Devlin under pressure and forcing Carrig into a turnover right in front of their own goal
His pulled pass fell perfectly for O’Riordan
O’Riordan added two frees for the hosts while points from Patrick Walsh and Barrett kept Carrig in touch
Patrick’s brother Sean added his second of 10 points from a free in the 21st minute
before a pinged puckout from Cian Collins found Biggane unmarked outside the 45
evading three Carrig challenges before getting the ball to Casey
He was never going to miss the close range chance
At that point Charleville were four ahead and they continued to run the show in the middle with defender Jake Madigan impressing at the back
but their failure to punish Carrig’s ill-discipline would come back to bite them in the latter period
With Carrig ahead by one in the 56th minute
another chance went to waste as Oran O’Connell’s strike was well stopped by Devlin
though the hosts would still have to turn it around late on

Joy for Castlemartyr at the final whistle after they beat Carrigtwohill in In the Michael O’Connor Motor Factors sponsored East Cork Junior A Football Championship final
A tense and thrilling battle throughout – it could have gone either way
In the end the Jim Ryan Cup is headed to Castlemartyr
but in the closing stages it was anyone’s game in Rostellan on Saturday
After Jamie Stack’s goal had nudged Castlemaryr four points in front with 13 minutes to go
Two points in two minutes from Mark O’Connor and Daniel Murnane
That cut the Castlemartyr gap to two in their East Cork Junior A FC decider
But despite raising the tempo and improving with the ball – they failed to score until Murnane added a free in the 60th minute
Castlemartyr protests ensured the distance to goal was shortened
who had made all five of his previous frees
Their pleas to the referee were fruitless – Castlemartyr were champions for the first time since 1991

.Pic Larry CumminsDespite the low-scoring nature
it was a gripping final from start to finish
Never separated by more than three points in the first half
it was level at 0-2 apiece after 10 minutes
as two scores from Castlemartyr drew parity
Those two were followed by three more – with all five coming from play
who kicked three outstanding efforts as Castlemartyr flourished in their purple patch
Carrigtwohill got the deficit back to two points by the interval
Castlemartyr’s first-half supremacy had been overturned
After a score each we were level for the fourth time
as Castlemartyr struck for the game’s only goal
The ever-present Ciarán Joyce at centre-back intercepted a Carrigtwohill pass
Joyce got the pass off to Jack McGann moments before being halted
He sent a ball in across goal – and Jamie Stack was there to get it beyond Trevor English
Carrig’s fightback ensured the minimum was all that separated the teams in added time
but they couldn’t get over the line and Castlemartyr prevailed

A second relegation final in four years awaits Carrigtwohill
Carrigtwohill were somewhere between disappointed and heartened after a controversial late free clipped their storming comeback to leave them facing into a relegation final against Cloyne

with several key changes taking place in recent weeks
Glasheen native Conor Ahern takes the reins as club chair
following a very busy and industrious stint by Caroline Dixey in the hot seat for the past two years
Denis Walsh is at the helm as senior team manager with Ballincollig native John Dwyer confirmed as coach
who has moved on to the role of senior manager with his native Kerry
Deccie Collins is also a senior selector having also been involved last year and for a couple of years with Seanie O'Farrell
Deccie has been living in Carrig for years and is very active in the club
Surging numbers have seen non-stop activity in the club for the past number of years
as a record number of players have been registered across the age groups
with now a swelling population has almost moved into the urban category
Administration work has increased dramatically
but Carrigtwohill are lucky to have a dedicated group of people whose heart and soul is in the club they love
Such is the volume of work that running a club of this size demands
that rotation and change are always expected at the top of the table and this year Conor Ahern has taken on the mantle of responsibility to lead the blue and gold following his election at the recent AGM
"It was never a definite ambition but I suppose I had been involved in so many different roles at all levels including juvenile

we reached the league and championship finals

Walsh has called upon the vastly experienced John Dwyer to oversee coaching duties
Dwyer tasted semi-final heartbreak as his Ballincollig charges lost successive last-four encounters to Kilworth and Carrigaline in recent seasons
Dwyer is of course well seasoned at inter-county level having coached victorious Cork minor
U21 and U20 teams to provincial glory at the end of the last decade

whilst Steve Mulcahy will look after strength and condition duties
Johnny Ahern and Ted Sullivan are in charge of logistics with Eoin O'Mahony overseeing analysis
with the ultimate focus being the three group games against Fermoy
in what looks like a very competitive group
Last season Carrigtwohill finished in seventh place in the top flight of the Red FM League
they will be hoping to build up some winning momentum in the early season as the selectors will look to blood some of the younger generation

Na Piarsaigh and Killeagh in their group stage next year
it was Midleton who emerged victorious over Carrigtwohill in the opening round of the Amarenco East Cork Junior Hurling League Division 1
A repeat of last year’s Junior A HC relegation playoff that saw Carrig come out on top
the Magpies pulled away early on and got their league campaign underway with a win on Friday night in Carrigtwohill
A 1-10 to 0-4 advantage at half time against the breeze told all
Carrigtwohill did start the second half with a little more urgency
making two substitutions and moving David Joseph from full-forward into corner-back
They hit the first four attempts of the latter period but only two went over
as Luke Kelly twice raised white flags from frees
In the space of 60 seconds Hogan undid that work with a brace of points
The closest Carrig got in the second half was the three-quarter mark
but another couple of points from the ever-present Hogan stretched the visitors’ lead back to 10 heading into the final few minutes
It was far from a decent performance by the hosts but there were some positives
They moved the ball well at times and David Rooney did well in defence
Carrig led after seven minutes when Sean O’Sullivan split the posts with the opening point
but a quick reply from Hogan who was set up by Cathal Beausang got Midleton back on level terms
Cian Crowley drove a stellar effort over the shoulder and between the posts
who was very impressive in possession – drove the ball into Conor Morley
The full-forward wrestled away from his man and buried it
In under three minutes Midleton had fired off 1-2
it was 1-8 to 0-2 when Morley should have had a second goal
as two frees from Hogan and one from play through Eoghan Fraser had moved Midleton eight ahead prior to Morley’s scuffed goal chance
Carrigtwohill's Sean Walsh shoots as Fermoy's James Molloy tries to block without his hurley, during their Senior AHC clash at Watergrasshill two seasons ago. Picture: David Keane.
Their 2023 season was an example of when things fall the right way for Carrig
The following year was very much the opposite
despite experiencing fortunes at both ends of the spectrum – they’ve remained Division 1 team in the hurling leagues
and will look to do the same again this year
While it helps that their opponents are often without their Cork hurlers
Carrigtwohill have continued to hold their own in a challenging tier
A grade that has allowed this team to develop over the years
A grade that has allowed Carrigtwohill to continuously test themselves against the best
Carrigaline may be another grade below in the championship
but you wouldn’t have known that on Saturday
They gave Denis Walsh’s side an immense challenge
even if they had to rely on a last gasp goal from James Mulcahy
and in fairness to the lads they kept on going,” Walsh said
“We were down here a few months ago in the championship and we were in a similar situation
it’s the first game of the year for both of us
we were four points down with a couple of minutes to go
After half time they got six points in a row
I think both teams will take a lot from a game like that this early in the year.”
The two clubs that don blue and gold and begin with Carrig are the only two Division 1 outfits not in the top 12 clubs come championship
But the intensity of their performances would suggest otherwise
“Carrigaline are going to be a serious team again this year
Pictured in last season's championship match against Blarney are former Carrigtwohill manager John Griffin and current manager Denis Walsh
Picture: Eddie O'Hare“There was a great bit of bite to it
both teams now will take a pile from it with that point of view as well,” added Walsh
but you can’t replicate the kind of physicality that we saw out there
“There are only two teams in Division 1 that are not premier senior – ourselves and Carrigaline
I think it’s a great division for us to be in
We’ve managed to stay in this league now for the last few years
championship is August – we’ve an awful long way to go
it’s good to come out now and put in a performance like that.”
in certain aspects it felt like it was a game Carrigtwohill failed to win
but some costly wides and failure to convert goal opportunities let the east Cork side down
Given that was an issue in the Senior A HC last year
it’s something Walsh’s charges will want to rectify
it’s not much of a concern for the manager – particularly at such an early stage of the season
But at least we’re creating the chances that’s good

Carrigtwohill's Sean Walsh holds onto the sliotar ahead of Cloyne's Diarmuid Byrne during the SAHC Relegation Play Off match in Castlemartyr
A rampant and dominant first half set the tone for Carrigtwohill’s comfortable win over Cloyne in the Senior A Hurling Championship relegation playoff in Castlemartyr on Saturday
but in the second half the game changed completely
There were more cards (11) than scores (8)
a dramatic conclusion to their seasons to say the least
Jack Hallahan was gifted the ball after a defensive error from Carrig
but the eventual winners did well to recover

Daniel Murnane – who had starred at half-back sent over his third point from play in the 48th minute
but Carrig would be reduced to 13 shortly after when James Mulcahy was handed a second yellow card
Cloyne's Jack Hallahan holds onto the sliothar despite the challenge from Carrigtwohill's Padraic Hogan
Picture: Howard CrowdyA 12 minute scoreless spell followed before Aaron Walsh Barry and veteran Pat O’Sullivan combined
As Murnane sent over the last puck of the game to give Carrig a 3-18 to 0-9 lead
it meant that Cloyne had finished the second half with six cards in total – three times their number of scores in that period
It’s been a season to forget for Cloyne who went scoreless from the 35th minute until the end and will play Premier Intermediate hurling next season – but for Carrigtwohill
The fine margins of Senior A meant Carrig were dealt a relegation playoff rather than a quarter-final
but their impressive first half and guile to see it out gives them a platform to build on in 2025
Despite Cloyne leading 0-4 to 0-2 by the ninth minute
their competitiveness wouldn’t last as Carrigtwohill hit five in a row
while Walsh sent one over from play before adding two frees
Carrigtwohill's Aaron Walsh Barry attempts to hold onto the sliotar despite the attention from Cloyne's Conor Cahill
Picture: Howard CrowdyMurnane and Liam Gosnell then came to fruition with the latter hitting one and assisting another
and by the 21st minute Carrigtwohill were six points in front
A free from Ashley Walsh kept Cloyne in the game but Walsh Barry picked out Mulcahy
and he set up Seán Walsh for a thunderous close range finish
Cloyne needed to hang on until half-time but they couldn’t – as Ashley Walsh’s free was met with two from Carrig
Carrigtwohill killed the game off on the eve of half time as O’Riordan

Despite the chaotic nature of the second period with so few scores overall – it was always going to end in a Carrigtwohill win
Joint captains Mike Cosgrave and Conor Whyte lift the Jim Ryan Cup for Castlemartyr after they beat Carrigtwohill in In the Michael O’Connor Motor Factors sponsored East Cork Junior A Football Championship final in Rostellan
Castlemartyr have marked their centenary year celebrations with the addition of the East Cork Junior A Football Championship title after a captivating win over Carrigtwohill in Rostellan on Saturday
A dramatic final and a thrilling finish – it was closely fought all the way through
The gap between the teams was never greater than three – until the only goal of the game arrived in the 47th minute
who had put in a superb shift at centre-back all throughout
He carried it as far as he could and handpassed to Jack McGann at just the right time
The oncoming Jamie Stack was there to meet it
it looked like Castlemartyr would now pull away
But that was their final score of the game
Carrigtwohill raised the tempo and improved in transition
Mark O’Connor pointed to bring the gap back down to three
A minute later Daniel Murnane pointed from a free
What held Carrig back was their failure to find another score until Murnane’s next free in the 60th minute
and Castlemartyr couldn’t handle the pace their opponents showed
Referee Willie Wallis moved it further forward after Castlemartyr’s protests
Murnane had a chance to send it to a replay
Their first Junior A football title since 1991
Picture: Larry CumminsWhile we very easily could have been headed for a replay
if anyone deserved to win it was Castlemartyr
and they showed why with their first half performance
By the 10th minute the teams were level at 0-2 each
but Carrigtwohill pushed ahead as Adam Rooney and Murnane both found the target
But Castlemartyr replied with a run of five points from play in five minutes
including three outstanding scores from man of the match Mike Kelly
That left the eventual winners 0-7 to 0-4 ahead after 23 minutes
Carrigtwohill did get the gap down to two at the break
and Carrig needed to be more clinical in the second half
Liam O’Sullivan set up Seán de Búrca for a point on the restart
while scores from Murnane and Cillian Barry got Carrig back in front
Two outstanding efforts from McGann – the first a long range free and the latter a tight angled kick put Castlemartyr back in front
before they hit for goal and held out to win the game
Blarney's Mark Coleman breaks from Carrigtwohill's Justin Oke during the Co-Op Superstores SAHC at Caherlag
A stunning display of hurling paved the way for Blarney to blitz Carrigtwohill in the Co Op Superstores Senior A Cork County hurling championship at Caherlag on Saturday
This was hurling at its best and if fellow group teams Na Piarsaigh and Courcey Rovers had representations at this game they will be under no illusions of the task they have to overcome this skilful Blarney side
Both teams showed intensity from the throw in but it was Blarney who showed the greater accuracy with three consecutive points Shane Barrett (2) and Padraig Power in the opening three minutes
Tomas Hogan did spilt the posts a minute later for Carrigtwohill but Blarney showed their class in as early as the fifth minute when a stunning run by Cian Barrett saw him place a perfect pass to Shane Barrett who drilled an unstoppable shot to the net
The biggest problem that Carrigtwohill were encountering was their inability to keep possession and after ten minutes this game looked over as a contest when Blarney registered their second goal
it was a masterclass move with Padraig Power who caught the ball before he found Cathal McCarthy in space as the final pass was laid into the path of Cian Barrett who made no mistake from close range
Blarney's Padraig Power plucks the sliotar out of the air from Carrigtwohill's Adam Rooney
Picture: Eddie O'HareBlarney were basically going through the motions as Carrigtwohill’s shooting was awful but they should have chalked up a goal with ten minutes remaining to the interval
Sean Walsh got in behind the Blarney defence but his shot was tame and parried to safety
Carrigtwohill’s best forward Justin Oke had a similar opportunity in the closing minute but credit to the Blarney keeper Paul Hallissey he parried it out for a 65
In added time when Denis McSweeney split the posts all Blarney forwards had scored as well as both centre field players with one coming centre back Patrick Crowley
The sound of the half time whistle brought relief to Carrigtwohill as they looked in deep trouble when trailing 2-12 to 0-9 with Blarney having the wind advantage for the restart
Carrigtwohill's Pádraic Hogan clears from Blarney's Cathal McCarthy
Picture: Eddie O'HareOn the restart Carrigtwohill looked to increase the pressure and a Sean Walsh point in the opening minute gave them the perfect start
Blarney responded with the Barrett brothers Shane and Cian continuing to cause havoc
both teams were reduced to 14 when Blarney’s Patrick Crowley and Pat O’Sullivan were shown straight red cards as a mini melee almost erupted following a foul on Shane Barrett
they were truly out of their depth and with ten minutes remaining we witnessed a goal of sheer class
A beautiful pass to Cian Barrett saw him flick the sliotar and leaving the Carrigtwohill defender for dead he drilled home a classy goal
It was fitting Blarney captain Mark Coleman would finish with a long-range point as his team sent out a serious message of intent of their ambition to win this championship
Shandrum's Johnny Murphy under pressure from Carrigtwohill's JD Egan and Jack Hogan during the Rebel Óg P2 MHC semi-final at MTU
They had drawn level no fewer than 12 times throughout – and it was clear this tie would need a fourth goal to avoid extra time at MTU stadium on Thursday night
A huge score from Charlie Finn edged Shandrum in front
Despite the score coming at such a critical stage
the feeling was that Carrigtwohill were going to get one back – as had happened for the entirety of the Premier 2 Minor Hurling Championship semi-final between the two teams
Searching for the winner Carrigtwohill had a goal chance – but Sam Ring lost his hurley
He still ended up with three more possessions without a hurley during the sequence – such was the do or die nature of their semi-final
Shandrum's Paraic O'Connor drives the ball past Carrigtwohill's Daniel McCarthy during the Rebel Óg P2 MHC semi-final at MTU
Shandrum won a free – and then centre-back Jack Hogan produced a moment of magic in the 59th minute
A run from deep into his own half where he faced challenge after challenge – Hogan just kept going
Twenty metres out from goal and about to run out of room – he handpassed it to Ben Jordan-Reidy
Now they were four in front and on their way to the final once again
A free from Patrick Walsh was quickly chalked off by another from Christopher Dunne
and Carrigtwohill were running out of time
but Matthew Barrett was under too much pressure and couldn’t get a clean shot away
The resulting 65 did bring the gap down to three – but Shandrum weren’t going to be beaten

Picture: Eddie O'HareThey’ve now got a chance to avenge last year’s defeat to Killeagh
as they face St Finbarr’s in the decider in Pairc Uí Rinn
It’s a heartbreaking defeat for Carrigtwohill – who had matched the Dromina/Newtownshandrum amalgamation every step of the way and produced such a bright start
netting the first goal in the fifth minute
Tom Walsh and Mark McCarthy combined before Tom’s brother Patrick sent in a long-range delivery right on top of the square
and Daniel McCarthy was able to beat PJ Noonan and squeeze it over the line
Carrigtwohill's Daniel McCarthy scores a goal past Shandrum's goaleeper PJ Noonan during the Rebel Óg P2 MHC semi-final at MTU
Picture: Eddie O'HareThe response from Shandrum was immediate – as Billy O’Gorman ran in before teeing up Dunne
Then in the 12th minute Shandrum had their second green flag
as Dunne picked the ball up with a skilful flick
held off two challenges – and smashed it into the net 1-5 to 2-2
the teams would trade scores six times before finishing the half level – 2-7 to 1-10
The trend continued on the restart – and they traded scores another six times
From the moment Shandrum drew level on 12 minutes
neither side would lead by more than one until Jordan-Reidy’s goal in the 59th minute
Eleven first half wides for the east Cork side would prove costly
and with four of those coming in the final three minutes of the opening period – they were left to rue what could have been

who will be returning to his home county to take charge of the Kerry hurlers
While certainly not the championship campaign anyone in Carrigtwohill would have hoped for beforehand
Two games that Carrig should have got something out of
we were here for a reason,” Griffin admits
“You see Kilworth were in the final last year and were in the relegation playoff as well
“We know that with two pucks of a ball we could have been inside in a quarter-final
We just had to have total focus on Cloyne the last couple of weeks
we watched the video of the Castlelyons game and a couple of other things
“That was my big thing probably the last few weeks and probably a little bit disappointed
We didn't get a 60 minute performance from ourselves in championship
Maybe the last 15 minutes for Courceys is an example
and I could see before the match the lads were up for it today,” he says
“They're been senior for the last how many years
particularly for the younger people in the village and the club as well because they need people to look up to as well
“I’m delighted with the results and I’m delighted for the lads because I’d say we’ve nearly 70 sessions plus sessions done this year
and if you put in effort an like that you want to just see them perform.”
While Carrigtwohill put in a strong performance for large parts of the game and built up a decent lead
their opponents struggled to keep with them and then game became far more physical
but the game was nearly over and you see lads going down
like [James] Mulcahy got a second yellow there
“I'm not a referee and it’s a thankless job
but sometimes maybe you need to apply a bit of common sense
There were a couple of decisions there at the end that I don’t think warranted straight reds
and Cloyne were struggling to get a foothold in the game
“I know it was a very low scoring second-half,” Griffin says
“We kind of said the first 10 minutes in particular [of the second half] that we just had to kind of get a grip of the game
the last 15 or 20 minutes once we did nothing silly
and just kept our shape and the scoreboard ticking over

But I hope the surgery goes well and he gets sorted and he's back on the field again for Carrig
Avril Geary, Imokilly GAA chairpserson, with team captains and members of the host club Castlemartyr at the East Cork Oil JAHC Final launch.
First up it's Saturday's Michael O'Connor Motor Factors JAFC decider at Rostellan which brings together Carrigtwohill and Castlemartyr (3pm)
Castlemartyr themselves will play host to the East Cork Oil JAHC showpiece involving champions Carraig na bhFear and Killeagh
Interestingly Sunday's hurling decider is a rerun of the opening group game between the sides in Dungourney
which saw Carraig' recover from a half deficit to score a 0-15 to 0-12 win
The title holders had also to show their metal in the semi-final to get over St Ita's on a 1-16 to 0-18 scoreline in Castlelyons
Top goalkeeping by Adam Buckley denied St Ita's on several occasions
Evan Flynn's goal eleven minutes from time was to prove the decisive score as they edged ahead to claim a very hard-earned ticket to another
Carraig are bidding for a fourth title to add to wins in 2008
Club chairman Dan Joe Floey is excited about what lies ahead
"The team has done really well again this year
under new management and the supporters have certainly got behind them in large numbers as the season has progressed
"We see it as a great honour to be here again
All the players from the word go took the initiative and organised the new management team for this season
"We were involved in some really tight games
"The tough nature of that game against St Ita's will hopefully help us
"The experience of winning last year and the fact that some guys are going for a third or fourth title should help us on the day."
Apart from the first game win over Killeagh
Carraig na bhFear also beat Bride Rovers by 0-24 to 1-12 and Carrigtwohill by 2-23 to 1-14 in the group stages
thus taking the direct route to the penultimate round
Opponents Killeagh recovered well to score a 3-18 to 0-17 win over Carrigtwohill and a 1-22 to 1-13 triumph over Bride Rovers
These results saw them advance to a quarter final
where they obliged with a 1-23 to 0-16 success against Sarsfield's
Keane Budds decided the semi with a late point
The Glenbower outfit were last crowned champions in 1995 and went on to win the county title
Ger Scully is club chairman and is hoping to see Killeagh secure title number six
"It's taken a bit of time for some of the younger lads to gel with the older players this season
It probably was a factor in the opening round game when we lost
tight games this season and everyone is really looking forward to Sunday
Despite conceding two goals early in the semi final
"The good thing was when we were three points down entering the last fifteen minutes
they stuck to the task and scored five points from play near the end
Alot of different players stood up - subs that came on really played their part
A gentle nod goes to Killeagh to claim the Jamesy Kelleher Cup
Castemartyr qualified for the JAFC final several weeks ago and will be hoping to show the form that has brought them four wins in five games
They have blended youth with experience and will be out to banish the memories of the 2022 final reversal to Cobh and end a 33-year drought
The reds defeated Aghada and Carraig na bhFear early on but also lost to Erin's Own in game two
They posted good knockout wins over Cloyne and Midleton
Opponents Carrigtwohill are seeking a first title since 2000
Despite going down by 1-8 to 0-8 to Dungounrey
wins over champions Lisgoold (0-11 to 0-6) and Youghal (4-10 to 1-6) saw them emerge as group winners
Carrig' then advanced directly to the last four
where they turned around a five points interval deficit to defeat Erin's Own 0-11 to 0-7 last Friday.
Ace marksman Daniel Murnane led the scoring stakes with 0-6
Now boasting the best defence in the championship
they look well-placed for another big performance
their opponents too will have huge motivation to succeed and celebrate their centenary year with silverware
Blackrock's Robbie Cotter gathers the sliotar from Carrigtwohill's Aaron Walsh Barry during the RedFM HL division 1 game at Church road
Blackrock manager Jamie Harrington emphasised the importance of peaking at the right time
but Blackrock weren’t far off their peak in this RedFM Hurling League Division 1 encounter at Church Road
The 12-point winning margin doesn’t take away from Carrigtwohill’s efforts
For the entire first half they stuck with their opponents
Blackrock had a total of 2-25 from play shared among nine different scorers
Robbie Cotter chief among them; 1-7 on the day after being released by the Cork management
An outstanding performance that takes them to the top of the table after four games
Blackrock’s only fault on Friday evening could be found in the first half
They were caught out far too easily by their opponents’ restarts
The concession of two goals would arise from that
who was making his first start for Carrig this campaign was on hand to bury it across goal
His goal left it 0-5 to 1-1 in favour of the hosts

Justin Oke was everywhere in midfield in the opening 30 minutes
Blackrock did claw back before the interval
Fionn Coleman pulled up with an important goal as he so often does
bringing Carrig’s lead down to two with 23 minutes elapsed
The hosts then reeled off four of the last five scores to take a one point lead at the break
Time after time he was caught isolated and surrounded by three or four green and gold hooped jerseys
But their defensive improvement wasn’t the only one

Any chance of coming back was quickly snuffed
By the third quarter the Rockies’ lead would be stretched to seven
Even as they emptied the bench; they raised white flag after white flag
When Carrigtwohill finally got another point from play
Niall Cashman was in fine form for the hosts
He had a number of assists to go with his tally of 0-3
with the defender coming in for the injured Adam Rooney and showing promise at right half-back

A late stoppage-time point from Richard Sweetman saved Courcey Rovers as they salvaged a draw in a pulsating Co Op Superstores SAHC clash at Carrigaline
Sweetman finished with an impressive 14 points but Carrigtwohill will be wondering how it took them 50 minutes to realise they were involved in a crucial championship game
The Ballinspittle side commanded a seven-point lead with seven minutes remaining but the Carrigtwohill spirit rose to another level and in the end
their courage almost ensured their status in this championship was kept intact
the draw wasn't enough to prevent them heading to a relegation play-off final against East Cork neighbours Cloyne
The opening exchanges were competitive and tense with both sides sharing four points up to the seventh minute
The play was scrappy but with Courceys winning the majority of dirty ball they took over with four unanswered points from play Richard Sweetman (3) and Tadhg O’Sullivan
Carrigtwohill relied heavily on the free-taking of Sean Walsh to keep them in sight
They were denied two good goal opportunities with the Courceys keeper Stephen Nyhan saving from James Mulcahy and Sean Brennan
Courceys were hoping to drive on and looked in control when Richard Sweetman nailed his 12th point in the 53rd minute
Then a Carrigtwohill ambush began and a minute later Jamie McCarthy was hauled down on route to goal with Sean Walsh blasting the resultant penalty to the net
Courceys had lost their shape in defence and three minutes later James Mulcahy brought the teams on parity following a superb three-man move
He then had the Carrigtwohill players and supporters in raptures when he split the posts from an acute angle
Just when Carrigtwohill thought they had sealed the deal they were punished with a heartbreaking free for picking the sliotar off the ground
which Sweetman duly executed with precision

Carrigtowhill's Sean Walsh in pursuit of Cian Horgan of Na Piarsagh
A stunning late goal from Ross O’Sullivan in the 63rd minute was good enough to seal a vital win for Na Piarsaigh in a thrilling Co-Op Superstores Senior A Hurling Championship tie at Caherlag on Friday
Na Piarsaigh went into the game on the back of an impressive win over Courcey Rovers but Carrigtwohill were under pressure after suffering a heavy 19-point defeat to Blarney
In a bright opening three minutes for both sides Carrigtwohill took the lead following a placed ball from Sean Walsh that was followed by a second white flag from the gifted forward
It got worse for Na Piarsaigh in the eighth minute when Cian O’Riordan was hauled down on route to goal with Walsh executing the resultant penalty
Trailing 1-3 to 0-0 after 10 minutes the Farranree side eventually ended their drought when Ross O’Sullivan split the posts
Na Piarsaigh were under pressure in defence but they got a stay of execution with their opening green flag midway through the half
A surging run by Luke Sheehan saw the ball fall into the path of Padraig Guest who doubled on it as the ball smashed into the corner of the net
Luke Sheehan battling Carrigtwohill's Padraig Hogan
Picture: Noel SweeneyGame on with the deficit reduced to three points 1-5 to 1-2 as Na Piarsaigh were battling hard to get back in a game with some crucial hooking and blocking
despite getting fouled struck over a vital point
with nine minutes remaining to the interval as the intensity increased
Sean Walsh was the sole scorer for Carrigtwohill up to the 25th minute with a 1-6 tally
The Walsh scoring spree halted in the closing minutes when Jamie McCarthy
Liam O’Sullivan and James Mulcahy notched a point each
Na Piarsaigh’s battling qualities continued and a late Daire Connery point brought the minimum between the teams at the break 1-9 to 1-8
On the restar,t Na Piarsaigh turnovers cost them dearly as a goalkeeping error allowed Liam Gosnell in for a soft goal that gave the east Cork side the perfect start
The response was instant but Guest missed a golden goal opportunity seven minutes later
The striking of Connery came to the fore for Na Piarsaigh with two wonderful long-range points and when Shane Forde drilled a massive point over midway through the half it edged them ahead by the minimum
Luke Sheehan was also contributing on the scoreboard
The closing minutes were frantic and when Na Piarsaigh took a three-point lead with seven minutes left they looked to be in the driving seat only for their opponents to bring the game back on parity
Then came the stunning O’Sullivan goal deep into added time that had Na Piarsaigh supporters in rapture after an epic encounter

Action from Midleton's win over Fr O'Neills in the group stages of the East Cork JAFC. Picture: Denis O'Flynn
with the next few weeks set to make or break the dreams and ambitions of so many clubs
it's action all the way as the hunt for silverware in both the Junior A grade hurling and football championships reaches a climax
who are already assured of semi-final participation
will look on awaiting the last of the contenders to emerge from the second hurling quarter-final between Killeagh and Sarsfields
The identity of the junior A football finalists will be known following the two potentially exciting semi-final clashes
Castlemartyr meet Midleton on Saturday evening in the first of the Michael O'Connor Motor Factors sponsored football championship penultimate round games
with Carrigtwolhill and Erin's Own taking centre-stage in the second semi on Sunday afternoon
Charlie O'Neill in action for Castlemartyr during their JAFC win over Aghada
Picture: Denis O'FlynnWith the exception of Castlemartyr
the three other clubs had key hurling games last weekend
Midleton are the only unbeaten team in the football competition
having garnered five points form their three group games
Carrigtwohill also earned a direct route to the semi-final
despite losing their opening game to Dungourney who failed to qualify afterwards
Midleton's formline has been interesting if not spectacular
They edged home by 1-8 to 0-10 against Fr O'Neills in the group opener
then shared 16 points with now relegated Bride Rovers
before beating Cloyne 2-10 to 2-7 to ensure top spot
Due to upcoming senior and intermediate hurling semi-final commitments there is a bit of uncertainty about the makeup of their team
Castlemartyr have recovered from a sluggish league campaign to post three championship wins
then dipped to lose second day out to Erin's Own
before clinching qualification by defeating a fancied Carraig na bhFear team
A win over Cloyne by 1-15 to 2-5 in the quarter-final continued the feelgood factor
A year ago in the final game of the group stages
Castlemartyr won the latest meeting of the sides
but failed to progress despite earning four points after three matches
two more clubs better known for their hulring exploits
will be anxious to make a football statement
Erin's Own have certainly done that over the last few decades as they have brought the Jim Ryan Memorial Cup home on five occasions
since their immediate opponents won the last of their three titles 24 years ago
It's notable that the Caherlag side have also won the county title in both 1994 and 2005 and lost the 2017 decider to a very good Knocknagree side
There is no doubt there is quality in their current ranks as evidenced by wins so far over Castlemartyr and Aghada after an opening-day defeat to the championship favourites
So the gauntlet is now thrown down to Carrigtwohill
who have not been active on the football fields since their last day group game
which resulted in a 4-12 to 1-6 over Youghal in mid-August
This result was good enough to see them ranked second amongst the qualifiers when coupled with their five-point win over Lisgoold in what was a must-win second outing for Carrigtwohill
A number of quality young players have come through the club's football ranks in recent times
reflected by their win in the U21 B championship 12 months ago
Carrig know they need to deliver a performance on par with their most recent outings to be in the mix against what is a well-balanced Erin's Own outfit
Both semi-finals are likely to go the distance

Carrigtwohill are up against Fr O'Neill's and Ballinacurra play Aghada at Junior C level
The hurling focus is on the East Cork Oil Junior A quarter-final between Killeagh and Sarsfield's on Saturday afternoon in Shanagarry
A woman (40s) and two men (50s and late teens) arrested in connection with the seizure of drugs in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork on Friday have been charged. They are expected to appear before Cork City District Court at 10.30am.
