Sign In Subscribe Now A Cherryville man has been handed a $4,500 penalty and a two-year hunting ban for poaching a pregnant moose in his neighbourhood in 2023.  Willem Tuijtel pleaded guilty in Vernon provincial court earlier this week to killing the moose outside of open season the Conservation Officer Service said Friday The provincial service received a report of a moose potentially killed out of season in the Cherryville area in March 2023 Conservation officers investigated the site and located a gut pile and the fetal calf of a moose.  Snowmobile tracks led to a nearby residence Conservation officers executed a search warrant and seized a moose carcass and a rifle and ammunition that was found to have been used to kill the moose.  Tuijtel is prohibited from hunting or being in the company of hunters anywhere in B.C His firearm and the moose carcass were forfeited He must also retake the Conservation Outdoor Recreation Education course.  “We’d like to thank the public for reporting this incident to the RAPP line,” said Conservation Officer Ken Owens call the Conservation Officer Service's Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) 24-hour hotline at 1-877-952-7277.  Dialogue and debate are integral to a free society and we welcome and encourage you to share your views on the issues of the day. She has already advanced out of one round. Voting for this particular round ends at 7 p.m and the resilience that shaped me," said Gordon in her online bio for the event She is currently attending the Baking and Pastry program at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts located on Granville Island in Vancouver.  Gordon began the six-month program April 7 She leaves her White Rock bunk at 6:45 a.m Monday to Friday to catch a bus that takes her to school which gives her time to weigh out the day's measurements for whatever delight she and her classmates will make Four hours on their feet completing many recipes Then it's back on the bus for the trip home The 75-minute daily transit commute is impressive as is how Gordon got to this spot in life She grew up on the streets on-and-off as a runaway She tried hairdressing and did some other different things before finding her niche during the COVID pandemic which is a meat pie usually made at Christmas inspired by her late mémère (grandmother) Mary "I was very happy how it turned out when I made that pie and I said to my husband (Rob Gordon) I'm going to throw this on (Facebook) Marketplace not knowing to make sure I was approved by Interior Health and that I couldn't use my own kitchen," chuckled Gordon at the memory "I did everything I wasn't supposed to do." the pie was so popular she ended up with more than 250 orders for tourtière Gordon vowed to keep the word she had put out about making the pies And it was while standing over her stove creating tourtière that she felt "something in my heart and soul really connecting me to my grandma." it's the legacy of my mémère," said Gordon "My all-time favourite dish to make is tourtière. It’s more than just a savoury meat pie; it’s a legacy of love I honour the generations before me. looking down and proud She inspired me to go to baking and pastry school "To carry my mémère’s legacy means that much to me." Project construction is expected to begin this fall A Cherryville woman says her fiancé was killed over a dispute involving $15 Michele Robles and Daniel Wayne Knighten were digging post holes at a neighbor’s house near their home on Putnam Street in Cherryville on Oct so Knighten decided to pick up some drinks at a nearby gas station and rode off on his bike to grab money from their home Robles said she saw someone walking down the road and they shouted to her that someone had beaten 49-year-old Knighten at his home Robles said she found Knighten in the living room covered in blood with a broken nose Witnesses who were at the home when the encounter happened told Robles that Howell Gene Sisk who the couple had met only two days prior accused Knighten of stealing roughly $15 worth of items from him and punched him several times eventually knocking him off the brick staircase flat onto the concrete below Witnesses also said Sisk kicked Knighten in the head and face when he tried to get up after falling off of the stairs When Robles saw Knighten in the living room she noticed he was not breathing properly and asked someone to call 911 “(He could) make you laugh on a bad day.”
