This is the shocking moment gardaí recovered a human hand from a schoolyard in north Dublin
Sources said yesterday that it will not be possible until early this week for gardaí to definitively say if the grim discovery is connected with an incident in which a child in the area suffered a hand injury the previous evening
a 12-year-old boy is understood to have suffered severe injuries to his hand
“The two incidents are being linked due to their proximity in both time and location,” a source said
“But until DNA results on the hand have been completed
it cannot be confirmed that they are related.”
was captured by CCTV falling into the schoolyard of Our Lady Immaculate school in Darndale after it was dropped by a bird at around 10.30am on Friday
There were no children in the school as it was closed for the mid-term break
Sources said when examined the hand did display signs of injury
Detectives checked CCTV in the area and the scene was technically examined before the hand was removed for a forensic examination
Forensic Science Ireland are this weekend carrying out DNA tests to seek to identify the person involved
Gardaí also liaising with the hospital where the child injured in Thursday night’s incident is being treated and also seeking DNA
The discovery of the hand in Darndale brought back unpleasant memories for locals connected to the murder of Keane Mulready Woods
Darndale was also the location in 2020 where the limbs of the murdered teenager were dumped in a sports bag after he had been killed and dismembered hours earlier
There is nothing to suggest that Friday’s discovery had anything to do with that murder case
which made international headlines after other body parts of the 17-year-old were found in north inner city Dublin and then later on waste ground in Drogheda
gardaí said they “were alerted to the discovery of partial human remains at a premises in Darndale
“A scene is currently being held and the State Pathologist has been notified
“The remains will be removed for examination and DNA analysis
which will assist gardaí in confirming the identity and determine the course of the investigation

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the discovery of a human hand in the grounds of a school in Dublin
The discovery was made this afternoon at Our Lady Immaculate in Darndale and gardaí are investigating
Uniformed gardaí were seen examining the find which was in the schoolyard next to a walkway
It’s understood that gardaí believe the hand belonged to a young male who was injured when a gas canister exploded
Sources say investigation is focused on the hand being brought to the location by a bird rather than it being dumped there maliciously
The school is currently on midterm break and gardaí have already examined CCTV footage
Gardaí have established a crime scene and it is anticipated searches of the immediate vicinity will be carried out
A garda statement said: “Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of partial human remains at a premises in Darndale

The severed hand that gardai discovered did display signs of injury

Gardai said on Friday night that they could not “definitively” confirm at this stage that the hand that was discovered at the school belonged to the boy

The scene at the school where the hand was found
A garda studies the hand in the schoolyard
Patrick O'ConnellMon 7 Apr 2025 at 09:21A hand that was discovered at a school in north Dublin belonged to a 12-year-old boy who injured himself in a gas canister explosion
The body part was dropped into the school yard at Our Lady Immaculate school in Darndale by a bird on the morning of Friday February 21
The school was on mid-term break and no children were present at the time
The hand was discovered at around midday and gardaí were alerted
A “prominent theory” in the early stages of the investigation was that the hand may have belonged to a local male child who suffered horrific injuries in a gas canister explosion at a bonfire in the Darndale area the previous night
The child had presented at the Mater Hospital with most of his hand missing following the explosion at the bonfire site
It was noted by gardaí who discovered the hand in the school yard that it did display signs of injury
The hand was removed from the scene for examination and DNA analysis in order to assist gardaí in confirming its origin and determining the course of the investigation
DNA samples were also taken from the injured child for comparison
A source confirmed yesterday that DNA testing and comparisons on the limb were completed and the results furnished to investigating gardai
“It has been confirmed that the body part found in the school yard did originate from the male youth injured in the explosion the previous evening,” the source said
“Initial suspicions that it was dropped by a bird in the yard were correct and it appears likely that the bird had picked it from the vicinity of the bonfire
“The young man’s family have been made aware of the outcome of the DNA testing
“He was obviously quite badly injured in the incident at the bonfire and the thoughts of those who investigated this matter are with him and his family.”

Irish police are investigating after a suspected severed hand was reportedly found near a school
Gardai were alerted to the discovery of “partial human remains” at the premises in Darndale, Dublin, on Friday afternoon.
The body part was reportedly believed to belong to a child who was injured in an accident that happened nearby the previous night.
A 12-year-old boy lost part of his hand in a gas canister explosion on Thursday night, reported the Irish Mirror – in the same area where the probe is being conducted.
The newspaper cited sources saying officers now believe the hand discovered at Our Lady Immaculate School belongs to the boy.
The scene was held for an examination and the state pathologist was notified.
A Gardai spokesperson said: “Gardai were alerted to the discovery of partial human remains at a premises in Darndale, Dublin 17 on Friday, 21 February 2025. A scene was preserved and technical examinations have been conducted. The State Pathologist has been notified in line with standard practice.
“The remains have been removed for examination and DNA analysis, which will assist Gardaí in confirming the identity and determine the course of the investigation. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The Irish Mirror reported the wounded 12-year-old boy was being treated in hospital following an incident at a bonfire in Darndale.

Gardaí believe a hand found at a school in north Dublin belonged to a 12-year-old boy who injured himself in a gas canister explosion.
The child presented to Mater Hospital on late on Thursday with most of his hand missing following the explosion. His injuries are not life threatening.
It is understood a number of children had been playing with the gas canister in the Darndale area on Thursday night.
At some point a bird picked up the remains of the boy’s hand before dropping it over Our Lady Immaculate school in Darndale, north Dublin on Friday morning, gardaí believe.
The severely damaged hand was discovered early on Friday afternoon, prompting concern it related to a murder victim.
Some of the remains of murdered gangland victim Keane Mulready Wood were discovered near the area in 2020.
However, further inquiries have left the Garda confident the hand belonged to the boy.
The remains are due to undergo DNA testing to confirm their identity. The State pathologist has also been notified.
The school was on mid-term break and no children were present at the time.

Packy Connors wants to start bareknuckle tournament
Eugene MastersonSun 10 Nov 2024 at 14:29Gardai intervened in an organised fight between online social media stars Stephen ‘Irish Viking’ Doyle and Packy ‘El Paco’ Connors – initially detaining the pair
a brother of well-known actor John Connors
was put in handcuffs for several minutes as cops initially thought he and his friends were attacking Doyle
The fight happened outside Connors’ home at a halting site in Darndale
Doyle (34) is a pharmaceutical employee from Finglas in north Dublin
who while using the name ‘Irish_ Viking_7’’ on Tik Tok
is not to be confused with the famous Instagram character Matthew ‘Irish Viking’ Gilbert from Co Wicklow
Packy (29) has also become a social media star
and the boxer recently expressed an interest in organising Ireland’s first proper bareknuckle fight tournament
“This influencer is basically trying to get into the bareknuckle game,” Packy tells the Sunday World
“This started off when he had a bit of online beef with a friend of mine
He was going a little overboard with Hurley
and he also mentioned that he did a video about me
I stepped in and said ‘you’re a similar age to me
so why don’t the two of us get a fight on.”
The two then agreed to a future fight and continued to goad each other on social media
an arranged fight on the Ultimate Creator Championship
“Me and the Viking had been looking to have a fight and then things got heated – so
we organised over the phone to have a fight down in Darndale
“He came down to Darndale with a couple of his friends
I had a couple of my friends and we took our tops off and we had a bareknuckle fight
“While we were in the middle of the fight and scrapping away
the guards showed up and the lads stepped in and separated us
“The guards came over to me and one of them handcuffed me
but he ended up letting me go when the lads explained what the situation was and that it was an organised fight
Packy says Doyle was lucky that gardaí intervened
“I had the better of him during those four or five minutes
I had the face punched off him,” he claims
but he was hanging in there and I think I would have had a knock-out
We are now looking to have an organised fight at a legitimate venue
I want to start Ireland’s first bareknuckle organisation
which will have this as the first proper fight and it will be on my YouTube channel
Doyle initially claimed Packy and his friends unfairly beat him up
but then backtracked in a later video he released on social media
“Some slightly different stories were mixed in there about the bruising on the back
slightly exaggerated that a little bit,” maintains Doyle.
we had a few people there and they just thought I was being attacked
“It was because they went past and seen it happening
It looked like I was being attacked from their point of view
“...If things could have went differently we could have went off-site and kept it away from the public eye
A SEVERED human hand was discovered lying in the yard of a primary school today after a bird dropped it
The limb was dropped into the grounds of Our Lady Immaculate school in Darndale, north Dublin at around 12:30pm
Gardai probing the grim find believe the hand belongs to a young boy who was injured in an accident on Thursday night in the same area
The 12-year-old lost it in a gas canister explosion and was rushed to the Mater Hospital
where he remained yesterday with non-life threatening injuries
Cops suspect the bird lifted it up at some stage on Friday morning then before dropping it in the school
before someone came across it two hours later and alerted cops
It is understood that other birds had been pecking at it on the ground before the grim find was made
The hand had the top of four fingers severed also and no thumb.
The scene was technically examined before the limb was brought away for examination.
Gardai are confident it belongs to the boy and DNA tests were being carried out to confirm that tonight.
"It appeared very random at first but there was an incident on Thursday night which gardai believe it relates to
"It's fortunate that the school had no students as such an incident would have caused mayhem if they were in there."
Forensic Science Ireland are carrying out DNA analysis to confirm the gardai's belief
A garda spokesman told the Irish Sun: "Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of partial human remains at a premises in Darndale
"A scene is currently being held and the State Pathologist has been notified
"The remains will be removed for examination and DNA analysis

They've been removed for an exam and DNA analysis.
The Irish Independent reports that a severed hand was found at Our Lady Immaculate School in Darndale earlier this afternoon.
The Guards have now removed the remains for an exam and DNA analysis.

and determine the course of the investigation:
"Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of partial human remains at a premises in Darndale

“The HSE advises that there is extra risk at this time and strongly recommends those in prison avoid new types of drugs or new batches being sold
