We believe it is essential to continue investing in quality and international presence to ensure a strong and competitive future for our designations."
Regarding the agreement with the Pennsylvania monopoly
Maccario added: "The introduction of new tariffs on wine imports to the United States is certainly prompting important reflections
although we are not particularly concerned
are not expected to experience significant declines in sales
as the price increase will be minimal and we are confident that the market will easily absorb it
combined with the strong appreciation these wines enjoy among young consumers and wine lovers for their versatility and pairing potential
should help keep them highly competitive despite the new U.S
We are therefore confident that they will continue to be in demand in the American market without the new tariff policies significantly impacting overall demand."
The B2B tour will be structured in two phases
The first part will take place directly in the Monferrato region and will include seminars dedicated to the protected designations

a true innovation in the production regulations: Piemonte DOC Barbera-Nebbiolo
Piemonte DOC Chardonnay has set an absolute record
growing by 7.6% to reach 2,174,000 bottles
confirming its increasing appeal among consumers
Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG remains stable above one million bottles (+1.6%)
These results reflect the success of the initiatives carried out in 2024
such as the first edition of the Barbera D’Asti Wine Festival
which celebrated the essence of Barbera with an innovative and engaging format
International events like the Barbera d’Asti Fish Festival in Oslo and Monferrato Identity in the Netherlands and Belgium have strengthened the Consorzio’s presence in foreign markets
while the consolidation of its presence in the United States and Canada has further boosted exports
the Consorzio Barbera d’Asti e Vini del Monferrato will be even more committed to promoting the region and its denominations through a series of events aimed at making Barbera d’Asti an accessible
youthful wine suitable for multiple consumption occasions
participation in industry fairs like Vinitaly in Verona from April 6 to 9
and numerous other initiatives will provide unique opportunities to discover these extraordinary wines up close
This exciting project aims to engage younger generations with Monferrato’s winemaking culture through innovative formats such as experiential events in Italy and abroad
The goal is to present Barbera d’Asti as a contemporary symbol of quality

The county plans to end the century-old process of installing and removing the temporary bridge over the Russian River in the north end of Sonoma County
a century-old temporary crossing over the Russian River in Cloverdale
year-round emergency access route for residents of Palomino Lakes and River Road
“This project has overwhelming community support from homeowners and neighbors
who for too long have faced the risk of being trapped if the seasonal bridge is not open,” said Fourth District Supervisor James Gore
Each fall when the temporary bridge on Washington School Road near the Asti community is removed, residents must travel more than 10 miles to Cloverdale Bridge on Crocker Road and back to get to Asti Road
They’re also forced to take a longer evacuation route
The new bridge is intended to enhance public safety and connectivity and eliminate the financial cost and environmental impact of installing and removing the temporary bridge
the county spends around $450,000 installing and removing the interim crossing in May and November
River Road in Cloverdale and the Alexander Valley Citizens League all understand the cost and complexity of maintaining a temporary seasonal bridge
and the need for permanent emergency access regardless of the season,” Gore said
He noted that people in the communities have died because medical services haven’t been able to reach people in need fast enough
swimming and jumping in the river,” Gore said
‘When are we going to make the bridge permanent?’ This will provide better access.”
The new bridge is slated to have two lanes and include bike lanes and sidewalks
The concept for the bridge has already undergone an environmental review and will be designed to meet Caltrans standards
which Gore says is the biggest hurdle for the project
this is a shovel-ready project,” Gore said
Some neighboring residents expressed concerns about potential flooding as a result of the work that would be required to build the bridge
including adding a new retaining wall on the south bank of the river
“It is our hope that the project improves and reduces flooding,” said Janice Thompson
deputy director of engineering and maintenance with Sonoma Public Infrastructure
The county’s Department of Public Infrastructure will proceed with the bridge planning and design phases
Gore said the county has applied for a few grants
but noted it may take a year to find out whether they will be awarded any funding
The total expected cost for the bridge is about $30 million
Gore said an assessment district on the residential areas surrounding the bridge could bring in about $4 million to go toward the construction
which would add a special lien to property tax
would have to be approved by voters in the area
the tax isn’t based on the value of the property
but would be determined by how much each parcel would benefit from the improvement
Thompson says establishing an assessment district would likely take two years
the Sonoma Public Infrastructure team will be “looking at everything” for additional funding options
the permanent bridge will be a sea change for the area; a temporary bridge has been installed near Asti since 1938 and county officials note there was likely an older one in the area that washed out before then
the county also installs seasonal summer bridges on Vacation Beach Road and Odd Fellows Road over the Russian River in the Fifth District

Tatarstan has succeeded in relocating the 'New Wave' music festival to Kazan
Following the announcement that the 'Golden Mask' festival would be relocating to Kazan
it has now been confirmed that the capital of Tatarstan will host yet another major event — the New Wave International Competition for Young Performers
Efforts to bring the competition to Kazan date back to the previous decade
The festival is scheduled to take place from 21 to 26 August 2025
performances will feature major Russian pop stars
the festival will be held in Kazan for “one year only.”
“I am thrilled that today this dream has come true
but for our entire team — we have been working towards this for over a decade
I remember we once collected 100,000 signatures in support of hosting the competition and sent them to Moscow
it seems those letters have reached Ded Moroz,” Metshin joked
The move followed Latvia’s decision to ban entry to a number of Russian artists who had voiced support for the annexation of Crimea
the Kazan City Duma had already proposed bringing the festival to the capital of Tatarstan
Mayor Metshin reminded Igor Krutoy of Kazan’s successful track record in hosting major international events
Metshin also noted that hosting the festival would help attract tourists not only from across Russia but from around the world
The 'New Wave' festival will be held on the square in front of the Kazan Family Center
where a temporary structure accommodating 2,500 spectators will be erected
Around 6,000 square meters of surrounding space will also be landscaped
Organisers anticipate the participation of approximately 300 VIP guests
plans for the site included creating a 14.3-hectare artificial embankment to accommodate the construction of the Cathedral Mosque and a recreational area
after the decision was made to relocate the mosque to Kyrlay Park
the size of the artificial land plot was reduced to 9.8 hectares
The area was then designated for recreational development
with a project budget of 4.2 million rubles
the State Construction Supervision Authority of Tatarstan issued a compliance certificate confirming that the land met project documentation requirements
the Volga Environmental Prosecutor’s Office ruled the land reclamation unlawful
During discussions about the festival site
Mayor Metshin compared the temporary structure to a “chapiteau," a term typically used to describe a circus tent
prompting a surprised reaction from composer Igor Krutoy
Our Russian might not be perfect — you must understand
we call such modular structures a 'chapiteau'," Metshin explained with a smile
When asked about the choice of Kazan as the festival venue
Krutoy took a moment to reflect on his experience during the 2013 Universiade
I personally witnessed the construction of the stadium's decorations
which were still being completed," the composer recalled
He also highlighted the special role of the Volga River
will bring an added energy to the festival's name
Kazan has been home to the Igor Krutoy Academy — ed.)
I can't pinpoint one specific reason why I am here
which inspires the creation of something new
'New Wave,' carries an impulse for development

Ascent Solar's 1-for-100 reverse stock split is a strategic move to maintain Nasdaq listing compliance
While it doesn't change the company's market cap
it's important for investor perception and liquidity
The split aims to boost the share price above $1
this action often signals financial distress
With outstanding shares reducing from 102 million to 1.02 million
it's vital to monitor post-split trading volume and investor sentiment
The rounding up of fractional shares might slightly benefit some small shareholders
but the overall impact on value is neutral
Investors should watch for potential dilution risks if Ascent needs to raise capital in the future
as the reduced share count leaves less room for new issuances without significant dilution
Ascent Solar's focus on flexible thin-film photovoltaic (PV) solutions positions them in a niche market with potential growth
Their "featherweight" technology could be advantageous in sectors like aerospace or portable electronics where weight is crucial
the need for a reverse split suggests challenges in commercializing this technology at scale
The company's struggle to maintain Nasdaq listing indicates potential cash flow issues or lack of market traction
Investors should assess Ascent's R&D pipeline
patent portfolio and ability to compete with traditional silicon-based PV and emerging perovskite technologies
The reverse split might provide a temporary boost
but long-term success depends on Ascent's ability to innovate and capture market share in the competitive solar industry
The reverse stock split reflects Ascent Solar's market positioning challenges
While it doesn't directly affect the company's fundamentals
it can impact investor psychology and trading dynamics
we might see increased volatility as the stock adjusts to its new price level
The reduced float could lead to wider bid-ask spreads
companies resorting to reverse splits often underperform the market in the long run
especially if accompanied by solid business turnaround strategies
Investors should focus on Ascent's ability to capitalize on the growing demand for flexible solar solutions in niche markets
Key metrics to watch include revenue growth
The success of this move will ultimately depend on Ascent's ability to improve its financial performance and communicate a compelling growth story to the market

Ascent's delivery of spaceflight-ready photovoltaic blankets to a European space partner in just two weeks represents a significant technical achievement in the space solar power domain
The flexible CIGS technology offers a critical advantage in spacecraft design by enabling rollable solar arrays that address the fundamental constraints of launch vehicles - mass and volume
What makes this particularly notable is the rapid customization timeline
Traditional space-qualified solar arrays typically require months of lead time
Delivering flight-ready hardware in under four weeks demonstrates remarkable manufacturing agility that few competitors can match
The planned incorporation of flight data into their Hardware Developer Kit program is strategically sound
Space qualification requires extensive testing and flight heritage - by making this data available to potential customers
Ascent reduces the adoption barrier for future clients
Their "Plug & Fly" approach suggests standardized interfaces and form factors
which could accelerate integration timelines for spacecraft builders
This addresses a major pain point in the industry where custom engineering often creates schedule delays and cost overruns
The fact this hardware will actually fly this year adds significant credibility
Many novel space technologies remain perpetually in development
but Ascent is demonstrating real-world capability with genuine flight heritage
This delivery represents a meaningful commercial win for Ascent Solar in the high-value space sector
While the announcement lacks specific contract figures
space-qualified solar technology typically commands premium pricing due to rigorous qualification requirements and specialized manufacturing processes
The record two-week delivery timeframe suggests Ascent has achieved manufacturing efficiencies that could translate to improved margins and capacity utilization at their 5 MW production facility
This operational excellence becomes a competitive differentiator in an industry where lengthy lead times are common
this European partnership expands Ascent's market reach beyond domestic customers
The European space sector has seen increased investment in recent years
potentially opening access to both commercial and institutional customers in that region
The Hardware Developer Kit approach indicates a product strategy focused on reducing customer acquisition costs and sales cycles
By providing pre-qualified components with flight heritage data
Ascent creates a lower-friction path to purchase for spacecraft developers
While a single delivery doesn't transform the company's financial position
it validates their technology in an extremely demanding application environment
This space qualification effectively creates a credibility halo that can benefit sales efforts across other market segments requiring high-reliability photovoltaics

What We Know From Wren Baker’s Previous Hirings at WVU
DeVries has turned around the Mountaineers in one season following back-to-back years of drama
But in the midst of keeping West Virginia afloat enough to experience the madness of March
he’s also been in rumors as McCaffrey’s replacement if Iowa pulls the trigger
will DeVries leave WVU after only one season and force Wren Baker to do yet another coaching search
only time will tell and DeVries is unlucky to address any rumors until his season is over
it’s for one reason and one reason only
If DeVries does end up being introduced as the next head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes
it will be because he simply wants to go home
He will undoubtedly even reference being home and Iowa being his dream job at his introductory press conference
Because aside from just wanting to be home, Iowa BASKETBALL is objectively not a better job than West Virginia BASKETBALL and wouldn’t be a smart professional decision for DeVries
it will only be because it’s his dream job
There is no objective measure to argue Iowa BASKETBALL is a better job than West Virginia BASKETBALL
Iowa hasn’t been a better program historically – especially not in recent decades
— Mike J. Asti (@MikeAsti11) March 14, 2025
Baker once said the one thing he can’t change no matter what is geography when talking about his failed efforts to keep a coach early in his WVU tenure
there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them
no one should even be mad at someone wanting to go home
West Virginia once benefited from Bob Huggins leaving Kansas State after only one season to go home to WVU
That sucked for Kansas State then and losing DeVries would suck for WVU now
West Virginia could still hire a solid coach and still has plenty to offer to any candidate
They could even say DeVries only left to go home as a “it wasn’t about us” type excuse
there’s an argument the two programs are a wash
although WVU has a significant edge in recent decades
West Virginia has 31 NCAA Tournament appearances (about to be 32)
has advanced to the Sweet 16 on 11 occasions
the Elite Eight three times and made a pair of Final Fours
In addition to the NCAA Tournament history
WVU has won 13 conference tournaments and claims a national championship from the 1942 season
the Hawkeyes have made the NCAA Tournament 29 times
granted their last Final Four came in 1987
Iowa has only won a conference tournament three times and has no claim on a national title year
while McCaffery enjoyed some success and is Iowa’s all-time wins leader
the program has not advanced to even a Sweet 16 this century – their last coming in 1999
WVU also has the clear edge in legendary figures and even relevant alumni names still active in the sport
history may not matter to a current coach as much as it would have in the past
The current climate of college athletics allows coaches to find success in non traditional places
Indiana football had three bowl wins all-time to their name before Curt Cignetti arrived and led them to a birth in the College Football Playoff
Both West Virginia and Iowa are football schools first
but WVU has shown an ability to invest in both simultaneously when things are going right
And even though WVU is trying to correct the its own money issues
Iowa is far from on stable ground financially themselves
Poaching DeVreis from the Mountaineers would take a large financial commitment from Iowa. USA Today reports that Iowa will owe McCaffery a buyout of $4.2 million
WVU signed DeVries to a five-year, $15 million contract last offseason. DeVries’s contract includes a buyout clause should he leave for another job before April 30
The clause stipulates that DeVries would owe WVU 37.5% of his remaining contract
The buyout amount for DeVries to leave this offseason would be approximately $4.575 million
The cost for Iowa to pay both McCaffery’s and DeVries’s buyouts would be upwards of $8 million
in addition to the new contract it would need to give DeVries
but for as many DeVries to Iowa rumors exist
there’s also speculation on the mismanaging of money by Iowa for years and that only continuing to be a problem under athletic director Beth Goetz
When comparing NIL collectives, WVU’s (Country Roads Trust) has ranked as high as N0. 27 in the country for its total efforts as recent as 2024
Iowa’s has never cracked any such list
that rank of 27th was a projection and not where WVU finished the year – just ask Neal Brown
but it’s still worth noting because Iowa’s has not been recognized in that way at all
especially when looking at two programs with similar histories and situations in their state
the Big 12 has been the better conference in recent years
Purdue did represent the Big Ten in the 2024 National Championship Game
but it’s the Big 12 with the most recent national champions
The Big 12 is actually home to two of the last four champions and won in back-t0-back season before UConn started their dynasty
The last Big Ten champion was Michigan State in 2000
Superstate from tournament performance, the Big 12 sent eight teams to the NCAA Tournament last year compared to the Big Ten’s six. To be fair, both conferences have had around the same number of teams ranked in the Associated Press’ poll throughout the season
but the Big 12 currently has the edge as far where they ranked with two inside the top 10 and Houston sitting at No
It’s not to say the Big Ten is a bad basketball conference or struggling like the ACC has been this season
The Big Ten could maybe even try to argue depth for this particular season
the Big 12 has accomplished more and still maintains its argument as one of the best conferences in the country
It’s just not necessary to jump from the Big 12 to the Big Ten in college BASKETBALL to win at a high level
but those acting like Iowa pitching West Virginia’s coach is inevitable may need to think again
if he does turn in his Mountaineer gear for Hawkeye attire
Sometimes being home and fulfilling a dream trumps everything else

the Statistics Division (ESS) and the Office of Innovation (OIN) of FAO organized a workshop in the Lao People's Democratic Republic to start discussing the country implementation and preparation of the upcoming ASTI pilot in the country.
As the agency responsible for the Agricultural Sciences and Technology Indicators (ASTI)
a global leading programme in compiling and analyzing agricultural research data
FAO is conducting a series of workshops in selected countries where FAO and ASTI partners will start the ASTI implementation phase
The outcomes of the pilot will serve as a critical input to designing the ASTI survey for the global roll out in 2025
The workshop convened key national stakeholders to introduce them to the ASTI methodology and procedures as well as initiate dialogues between national agricultural research institutes (NARIs) and the national statistical office (NSO)
These dialogues aim to unveil and present the new data collection approach while deliberating on and exploring strategies for effective integration of ASTI into National Statistical System (NSS) mechanisms

Four cars and a big rig were involved in two collisions on Highway 101 and Asti Road
A chain of collisions south of Cloverdale along Highway 101 between Theresa Drive and Asti Road sent three people to the hospital Monday morning
when a sedan driving southbound lost control
said California Highway Patrol Officer David DeRutte
The sedan’s driver veered and then overcorrected as a semitractor-trailer driver was coming up behind her
The collision caused the semitrailer driver to veer off the road into the ditch
The area was under a frost warning through 9 a.m. While individuals commenting on the crash on social media noted that Monday morning, DeRutte said frost was not an issue.
The second chain of crashes was likely caused by drivers slowing down to see what had happened to the semi, Cloverdale Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Rick Blackmon said.
Blackmon and DeRutte said the sun was low and bright, potentially blinding drivers as they passed by the crash site.
“Some cars rear-ended each other,” Blackmon said.
Four cars were involved with the second crash, which sent three people to the hospital with minor injuries.
DeRutte said southbound 101 remains closed while crews work to remove the semi from the ditch. He did not offer a time estimate for a full reopening but said that traffic is being rerouted to Frontage Road and noted that it was fairly light and moving quickly as of 11:30 a.m. Northbound 101 at the crash site is fully opened.

Tony Gibson thinks WVU should play Marshall
he’s made it his mission to force the issue
Gibson recently doubled down on his campaign during a one-on-one interview with the Charleston-Gazette Mail
our two universities and keep the money in state,” said Gibson
But no matter how many times Gibson brings up this up
It's been 13 years since WVU and Marshall played each other. @HerdFB coach @CoachTonyGibson discussed reigniting the series with @Taylor_Kennedy7 on the latest edition of Coaches Corner. #WVU
Full interview: https://t.co/uUzND5kB1s pic.twitter.com/hJXkzvnI5B
— Gazette-Mail Sports (@GazMailSports) April 16, 2025
While the WVU vs. Marshall rivalry does exits in some sports – the soccer matchup is one of the best in the country, they consistently meet on the baseball diamond and there was even intensity when alumni teams played in the TBT
there’s just no incentive for WVU to try to force one either
The reason why Gibson wants to play West Virginia so bad simple
He knows he’s coaching the only school who would truly benefit from the game
It’s not even just about the fact that WVU holds a 12-0 record all-tome over Marshall and won the last matchup 69-34
it’s a 13th or 14th or 15th win would do nothing for the program at all
and this would be true no matter the status of the programs are at the time
the reaction would undoubtedly be something like this: “Of course
They’re the Power Four program and should beat a school like Marshall.”
Now IF Marshall does the unthinkable and earns the Thundering Herd’s first ever win over West Virginia
would be remembered as a hero in Huntington forever
They would probably throw a damn parade and celebrate the one win until the end of time
How the hell is that a fair dynamic for a “rivalry” game
And while Gibson does bring up a semi-good point in terms of keeping the money in the state
it is not WVU’s job to do a charity service for Marshall or the state
The WVU football program needs to be focused on making the Mountaineers a national contender again
WVU will garner a certain number of fans no matter who the opponent is
some of the attendance numbers in recent years aren’t what they once were
but the Neal Brown tenure was also the first six-year stretch West Virginia failed to appear in a single week of the Associated Press’ Top 25 since before Don Nehlen took over in 1980
If the Mountaineers become a contender again
Milan Puskar Stadium will be packed every week
WVU playing in Huntington will provide Marshall with a sellout crowd
but what does that do for the interests of the Mountaineers
Marshall’s attendance should not be something Wren Baker or Rich Rodriguez care about
Rodriguez knows his second tenure at WVU will be judged by his overall record
if West Virginia can contend in the Big 12 and then on the national scene
That’s the harsh reality of being the head coach of the 15th winningest program in the history of the sport
Asti: Winning Only Option for Rich Rodriguez in Second WVU Tenure
But if you think I’ve spent one second thinking about Marshall you’re wrong
I could care less what’s going on in Huntington,” responded Rodriguez when asked about Gibson’s campaign
No WVU fan will celebrate or care about bearing Marshall if that victory occurs during a losing season
a win over West Virginia could make a losing season for Marshall one their fans will brag about for years
that dynamic should make playing the game a non starter for WVU
Lifting the Black Diamond Trophy after taking down Virginia Tech in back-to-back years from 2021-22 brought some solace to otherwise disappointing seasons
What would a win over Marshall mean from a WVU perspective
What Gibson fails to ever acknowledge is the difference in circumstances
which admittedly stands out since Power Fours shouldn’t make it a habit to open a series with a Group of 5 on the road
With that said, it has happened elsewhere in the country and is WVU’s only non conference road game of the season
their non conference schedule is now finally in line with what most Power Four programs have been doing during the College Football Playoff era
West Virginia will kickoff the season with FCS Robert Morris
Ohio and then host Pitt in the Backyard Brawl
WVU Football’s Full 2025 Schedule
switch out Ohio for Marshall and WVU would still have the standard one FCS
one Group of 5 and one Power Four rival type of non conference schedule they desire
It’s also well documented that Marshall wants a series with WVU to be a true home and home
West Virginia granting that to a G5 program that wasn’t even at the FBS level until 1997 would just be ridiculous
two programs who share a state would be rivals and play annually
But the current state of college football is far from a perfect world
And worrying about helping any Group of 5 school shouldn’t be something West Virginia prioritizes
For related content, Mike Asti welcomed Randy Gyorko on his “Mike Drop” show back in 2020 to debate if WVU should play Marshall
Marshall Offers Former Mountaineer Zah Jackson Chance to Stay in State
WVU Football OL Gavin Crawford Hits Transfer Portal
marsha needs to get a life after going 0-12 against big brother WVU
marsha doesn’t want to pay wvu the same money when they play and earn at motown
yet marsha wants to give wvu almost nothing to play in marshatown,,,,
this uneducated writer seems to have forgotten which team finished the season ranked 23 places higher in the cbs rankings
didnt WVU drop most of its academic programs as a cost savings move last year
I’m going to ignore the unnecessary insult because I prefer to have intelligent debates even if that’s often impossible these days
Marshall plays a much easier schedule on a regular basis
but no one is arguing WVU has been good in recent years anyway
The point is WVU doesn’t gain anything from beating Marshall
WVU would gain nothing from a win over Marshall
Marshall fans would just say WVU is supposed to win as a P4 with more resources etc
Nothing is gained from the WVU side and most WVU fans don’t consider Marshall a rival in football
I’ve seen comments that the then-AD shouldn’t have scheduled the 2 for 1 with Ohio
but as conferences get bigger its going to get more difficult to get other P4 schools to come to WVU – and it will be impossible to get them to agree to a 2 for 1
then it SHOULD work with Marshall to get the game scheduled as a 2 for 1
the previous commentator is wrong about the offered $$ – for home/home
WVU traditionally offers less than other P4 schools for that 3rd game
mainly b/c its stadium is smaller than many others and it can’t afford to pay a million+ like its peers routinely do
Marshall recognizes that and has always been willing to take less from WVU than it gets from Ohio State

this move signals that the management is effectively managing its financial obligations
which can lead to a positive perception in the market
debt reduction may also increase the company's capacity to reinvest in its core business or undertake new projects without the burden of past liabilities
Investors should consider that while this can be seen as a healthy financial maneuver
it also depends on future revenue streams to sustain growth and avoid new debt accumulation
Monitoring the company's subsequent financial reports will be essential to assessing the sustainability of this debt-free status

First European delivery for the Mercedes eCitaro K, the short of the electric Daimler Buses family unveiled last year at the IAA, presented this morning in Asti Public Services livery
The city of Asti has received a total of 12 eCitaro in the standard 12-metre size and 4 short 10.6-metre models
These were joined in autumn 2024 by a request for a further 12-metre eCitaro with subsequent delivery
bringing the supply to a total of 17 vehicles
The handover ceremony and premiere of the eCitaro K
was attended by numerous high-ranking personalities from politics and business
With a turning circle of only 17.28 metres
the four compact 10.63-metre eCitaro K vehicles of ASP S.p.A
are particularly suitable for application in local public transport with narrow
winding routes in the city centre and suburbs of Asti
which is around 1.5 metres shorter than that of the eCitaro
the 17 battery-electric city buses have the maximum configuration of the eCitaro from the current NMC3 battery generation
This means that each of the new regular-service vehicles of ASP S.p.A
has a maximum battery capacity of 588 kilowatt hours (kWh) and can achieve a range of around 400 kilometres under favourable conditions
The electric buses are charged overnight at charging sockets in the Italian transport company’s depot
Maximum safety for drivers and passengers is guaranteed by the digital video surveillance system in conjunction with active filters with an antiviral function in the interior and numerous modern safety and assistance systems
The four eCitaro K vehicles have 26 seats and 54 standing places as well as a wheelchair space
They therefore offer space for 81 passengers (plus driver)
The 13 eCitaro 12-metre solo buses are designed to carry a maximum of 77 passengers (plus driver) on longer routes
The conclusion of an Omniplus eServiceContract with a term of 12 years ensures the availability of the 17 new electric regular-service buses from ASP S.p.A
the total cost of ownership of the transport company will be reduced to a precisely calculable
The new eCitaro for Asti already has the Bus Data Centre installed on board as standard as an interface to the digital services from Omniplus
the Omniplus On Uptime pro service is used to improve the availability of the fleet
Fault messages and important diagnostic information are transmitted to the workshop in real time to reduce service times.

– In the interest of full disclosure
it’s difficult to truly evaluate this WVU football team right now
West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez has even been honest about not knowing what to make of his group just yet as well
But understanding the fluid situation of the roster, here are my takeaways based on the brief period of practice made open to the media through the first two weeks of spring ball
the tempo demanded by a Rodriguez team is evident
is allowed to stand around during practice
In one of his post practice media sessions, Rodriguez explained that there’s plenty of time to stand and sit during meetings – he joked they meet more than congress
This appears to be something the players are getting used to
While players were sprinting to lineup for the next play during practice
Rodriguez could still be heard yelling for them to be even faster
Rodriguez also noted that he likes the effort he’s seeing
but he hasn’t seen enough to even be able to tell if the offense or defense is further along
The position battles will undoubtedly go into fall camp as players get in better shape throughout the summer
Rodriguez has made it clear almost no one is in the kind of shape he commands from his players
and that goes for starters to the last guy on the roster
As expected this early in the spring period, Rodriguez is shying away from tipping his hand at all in terms of the quarterback battle
which will likely end up as the determining factor for what happens in the season
I feel Jaylen Henderson has a higher ceiling
There’s a chance Rodriguez sees him as more of the pro type that he’s had success with in the past
especially for someone with his bigger frame
But that’s not to say Nicco Marchiol can’t or won’t win the starting job
sources say he’s getting paid more in NIL money
which certainly can signal that he’s in pole position as the leader of the competition and would likely get the bump in a tie breaking scenario
Don’t expect for any quarterback announcement until after fall camp at the absolute earliest. It may even linger until right before kickoff of the season opener…or as close to game time as possible
Rich Rodriguez Reveals Truth in Joke About Timeline for Naming Starting Quarterback
Jahiem White is the literal only player Rodriguez has felt comfortable mentioning as having secured the No
1 spot on the depth chart for any position
White is also the most note worthy player unable to practice
He’s fine and there’s no reason for concern
but White is still in shorts as everyone else is in pads trying to be as “hard edge” as possible
To no surprise, Rodriguez plans to be the most aggressive in adding more help at wide receiver and in the secondary in the upcoming spring portal
The only thing we know for sure is Rodney Gallagher’s days getting snaps on defense are over
Rodriguez quickly shot down any talk of that scenario repeating itself for Gallagher during a press conference after a practice
“If Rodney is playing both ways, then we did a crappy job of filling our roster,” responded Rodriguez to a direct question about the possibility of Gallagher getting any reps on defense again
Note: West Virginia will not be holding a spring GAME this year. Instead, WVU football will offer fans a Gold-Blue “Showcase” event to take place on Saturday
For a related story, Rich Rodriguez has pressure to return WVU football to national contender status as soon as possible.

it’s clear the QB1 role isn’t going to be handed to anyone
So what does WVU bringing in multiple veteran transfer quarterbacks mean and what should fans expect out of the quarterback competition that’s ahead in the spring
one particular move signals Rodriguez is playing chess
not checkers with his strategy for the quarterback position
While Marchiol has shown promise and has won – he’s 4-0 as a starter in college – and some believe it’s now his turn
there are reasons to wonder if he’s the right guy to lead Rodriguez’s offense
Despite winning and even impressing at times during practices
He did play lights out at Arizona with the pressure of a homecoming environment
but he’s been otherwise inconsistent aside from that game
His last start in Cincinnati saw him only throw for 156 yards with one touchdown and one interception
He also only completed 46.2% of his passes for 58 yards after replacing Garrett Greene in the second half against Kansas State the week prior
West Virginia’s Nicco Marchiol (8)drops back to pass against Cincinnati on Saturday
Marchiol posted a quarterback rating of just 21.0 and only managed 60 passing yards in relief of Greene despite winning the last Backyard Brawl in Morgantown
and being a dual-threat is obviously a necessity in a Rodriguez-led offense
Marchiol has 285 yards on 84 carries for an average of 3.4 yards per touch in his three years as a Mountaineer
WVU QB Nicco Marchiol celebrates a huge play for the Mountaineers versus Pitt
Former WVU head coach Neal Brown talked about Marchiol’s progression as a player following his big night in Arizona
“He’s so much better player than the last time he started a game
So last time he started a game was Texas Tech
y’all heard me talk about that in the spring
and you heard me talk about it in fall camp
“And he didn’t play very well in the second half of the Kansas State game, which was a tough setting for him, but I thought he really stepped up today when we needed him, and he played really well,” Brown said during his postgame press conference at Arizona Stadium
it’s possible Marchiol could keep improving and may even be put in a better position to succeed moving forward
it’s also very possible Rodriguez will fall in love with Texas A&M transfer Jaylen Henderson before Marchiol gets that chance
Henderson (6-foot-3, 220 pounds), who committed to transfer to WVU on Jan. 4
speed and arm strength to generate big plays
Henderson is coming off a lost season in 2024 and hasn’t appeared in a game at all since Dec
His recent injury and lost year is part of what made him available to West Virginia in the first place
he’s shown flashes of being an elite athlete who can flourish if given an opportunity and if placed in the right situation
It’s possible Rodriguez’s system would be the opportunity and situation he needs to reach his potential
A monkey wrench was thrown into the expected two-man battle on Jan. 13 when Max Brown joined the party by revealing his plans to become a Mountaineer as well
mostly because he was once recruited by Florida and worthy of the SEC
he’s just an insurance policy for the WVU staff
Brown completed 43-of-93 pass attempts for 561 yards
three touchdowns and six interceptions in five games during the 2024 season
he did deal with an injury to his throwing hand
Rodriguez wanted to bring a player like Brown aboard in case he loses a quarterback in the spring transfer portal
If Marchiol doesn’t win the starting job again
he could decide he has to transfer to get on the field before his eligibility runs out
And it’s tough to believe Henderson decided to transfer to WVU to sit on the bench
He can’t lose another season after missing all of 2024 and he has the talent to play somewhere if not West Virginia
So if one decides to leave in the spring, Brown would be there as a serviceable backup option. My belief is now that Brown is around more as a replacement for Ryder Burton than to be West Virginia’s starting quarterback in 2025
For a related story, Mike Asti and Cody Nespor discussed WVU’s new quarterback room on a recent episode of Mountaineer Report.
Mountaineer Report: Steve Slaton Talks Making HOF, What Fans Don’t Know About WVU Career, James Franklin
Mountaineer Report: QB Battle, National Perception of WVU Football Portal Class
but he’s not the only coach under the gun in 2025
who jumped from blue blood Oklahoma to become West Virginia’s defensive coordinator in late December
can make his second tenure as WVU’s head coach anything close to as successful as his first one
he will most certainly end his career with a much better Mountaineer legacy and even have an overall career resume that will argue for the College Football Hall of Fame
As for the much younger Alley who has many more years in front of him
the 2025 season can go one of two ways for him
And whichever way it goes will go along way in dictating what Alley’s future in coaching looks like
“Zac is one of the top young defensive coordinators in the country and has proven his ability to lead and be an innovator at different stops during his career,” Rodriguez said at the time of his hire
“I have worked with him several seasons
and he constantly impresses me with his ability to blend schemes with his personnel and develop winning results
I look forward to him joining our staff and making an immediate impact for us.”
WVU HC Rich Rodriguez Calls Zac Alley ‘One of Top Young DCs in Country’
It’s not to say that if his defense doesn’t rank in the top 10 in the country he will be a cast off who can’t find work
But a solid showing from a unit that struggled mightily in 2024
and has experienced a steady decline in production for several years
will mean Alley earned every penny of his salary and his additional title of assistant head coach
It will likely lead Alley to becoming a coveted commodity and result in head coach opportunities
If West Virginia embarks on a magical ride to the College Football Playoff
or really even gains a consistent spot in the Associated Press’ Top 25 – WVU was never ranked in the AP Poll during the Neal Brown era
Alley’s value will likely skyrocket as one of the top assistants in the country
it will earn Alley a raise or continue the seemingly obvious succession plan in place at WVU
“We’re going to have a relentless way we play
out-execute and affect the game on our side of the ball,” he added
Zac Alley Opens Up About Decision to Leave Oklahoma for WVU, Talks ‘Relentless’ Style of Play
West Virginia’s former defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley could argue one example of a transfer like Garnett Hollis didn’t play up to the potential he displayed at Northwestern one year earlier
the result is the secondary was awful and Lesley got fired
It may not have changed the overall season much
but a slightly better secondary holds on and beats Pitt
when you’re a high-priced coordinator clearly being groomed as a future head coach
you’re expected to be a difference maker and to work your magic somehow
Failing at WVU will also make people wonder about Alley in general
Alley’s first taste of Power Four football was guiding a Sooners’ defense that had moments
Questions about if Alley is more of just a Rodriguez disciple instead of a top defensive mind will undoubtedly run rampant
If things go poorly and a roster full of new defensive players and coaches doesn’t show any signs of improving

National Grid has today published the RIIO-T3 business plan for its National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) business
covering the period from April 2026 to March 2031
The submission follows extensive consultation with national
The plan includes an unprecedented level of investment of up to £35 billion over the five years to March 2031
Visit our RIIO-T3 website to download the plan
Altogether this ambitious plan enables NGET to:
the plan aligns with the National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) Future Energy Scenario 2024 Holistic Transition pathway
The optionality in the plan also means it can be adapted to the UK government’s clean power plan
Whilst the specific investments required will be clarified through NESO’s connection reform process in 2025
the RIIO-T3 plan further underpins and is consistent with our expected £60 billion investment across the group for the five years to March 2029
The NGET plan includes the financial framework that we believe is needed to provide an attractive and investable proposition that can compete with the international demands for capital
We have clearly set out why we believe a real 6.3% (at 60% gearing
CPIH stripped) allowed cost of equity is the right level to deliver this in RIIO-T3
We also set out the levels of cash generation necessary to support investment levels and propose a number of incentive mechanisms that will deliver benefits to consumers and networks during RIIO-T3
said: "This plan represents the most significant step forward in the electricity network that we’ve seen in a generation
Through it we will nearly double the amount of energy that can be transported around the country
support the electrification of the industries of today and tomorrow; create new jobs; and support inward investment for the UK
set to future proof the network with strategic capacity and flexibility for the longer term
We’ve laid the foundations for its delivery through the steps we’ve already taken to progress ASTI projects
We have done this whilst keeping a relentless focus on consumer bills and affordability
"It is now critical that Ofgem plays its part in developing an investable framework that will allow us to deliver at the unprecedented scale and pace that is needed to meet the UK’s ambitious climate goals."
We look forward to engaging further with all our stakeholders
ahead of draft determinations from Ofgem in summer 2025
For additional information, please visit the RIIO-T3 section of our website
which takes effect before market open on August 15
we believe we have better positioned the company to succeed moving forward both in the near and long term
We have amassed enough liquidity to continue operations well into the first quarter of 2025
an important factor as we continue to pursue strategic partnerships and customer engagements within key industry verticals including space and aerospace,” said Paul Warley
“As interest in solar technologies continue to grow throughout the space and aerospace industries
we believe Ascent’s thin-film solar PV technologies present a highly viable product offering that is ready for efficient application across multiple high-growth verticals
We have continued to expand our new business pipeline
while also achieving dramatic advancements in in our technology over the last year – both of which we see as positives for potential customers
as well as our current and prospective investors.”

Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland (ASTI) general secretary Kieran Christie announced the new process at the teachers' conference in Killarney as he spoke about the danger of cyberbullying
Mr Christie told delegates a sub-committee was working on combating the cyberbullying of teachers
including engagement with the social media short-form video site TikTok
He said a "community partner channel" had been established with the social media site
allowing the ASTI to escalate any issues.
"The ASTI is now able to highlight/report content that could be considered harmful or in violation of TikTok’s community guidelines via TikTok’s community partner channel.
"This community partner channel gives the ASTI access to an escalation process in the event that the normal TikTok reporting channel has not resolved an issue for an ASTI member
and once ASTI head office deems that the issue is of a threshold that requires urgent and immediate attention
"Once a report is submitted by ASTI head office
Mr Christie said the union was also engaging with various bodies
including Coimisiún na Meán and the gardaí
"An initial poster and associated guidance on prevention will be in schools for September
while work continues on the production of detailed information on what members should do in the event of being targeted online."
a motion was carried unanimously by 500 delegates to tackle cyberbullying
almost a fifth of Irish secondary-level teachers have experienced cyberbullying
with the majority of that behaviour coming from their own students

we’re giving you a quick breakdown of the leading Asti labels:
Our adventure began in the heart of the Piedmont region
This journey with Asti took us through these picturesque vineyards
dotted with the vines that grow these wines
offered breathtaking views that seemed to stretch on forever
Our first visit was to Fontanafredda winery
a historic estate with a rich heritage since 1858
Fontanafredda is not just a winery but a true community where families have worked the land for generations
fostering a deep respect for the earth and each other
Fontanafredda embodies the values of sustainability and community
with generations of families working together to produce exceptional wines while preserving the natural beauty of the Langhe region
Here, we explored the stunning vineyards, learned about the winemaking process, and indulged in a delicious lunch at Osteria Disguido paired with exquisite wines
The highlight of the visit was the truffle hunting experience with “trifulau” Carlo Merenda
We followed Carlo and Cicchi through the Villaggio Narrante forest
learning about the different types of truffles and how to find them
we took time to indulge our senses in the nature-filled afternoon that only a hike through the Italian countryside can give you
We also had the opportunity to visit several other renowned wineries, each with its own unique story and style. We visited the beautiful Azienda Agricola Angelo Negro & Figli winery in Monteu Roero
where we learned about their esteemed history and tasted some of their exceptional wines
The winery’s commitment to quality and tradition was visible in every aspect of our visit
Azienda Agricola Angelo Negro & Figli has been cultivating vineyards in the Roero hills since 1670
honoring a centuries-old family legacy and the region’s indigenous grape varieties
The Negro family’s dedication to traditional winemaking techniques and their unwavering commitment to quality have elevated their wines to international acclaim
Azienda Agricola Angelo Negro & Figli remains a true family-run winery
with the Negro family actively involved in every aspect of the business
From vineyard management to winemaking and distribution
the family’s passion and expertise are evident in each bottle
This familial approach ensures that the winery’s traditions are preserved while embracing innovation and sustainability
Finally, we visited Dogliotti 1870 winery in Castagnole delle Lanze
Founded in 1870 by brothers Giuseppe and Marcello Dogliotti in Castiglione Tinella
Dogliotti 1870 has been crafting exceptional wines for over a century
have now taken the reins of the family business
and design to elevate Dogliotti 1870 to new heights
The winery’s renowned Moscato d’Asti was once a local treasure but now captivates palates worldwide, earning prestigious accolades and gold medals at esteemed wine competitions. Always aiming for innovation, Dogliotti 1870 created Dogliotti’s Moscato d’Asti Erik DOCG in 2011
age-worthy interpretation of the classic style
and mineral notes that defy expectations — a true one-of-a-kind wine and best-seller of the winery
After a tour of the Dogliotti 1870 winery, we were treated to a private lunch prepared by Italian Chef Diego Bongiovanni
a culinary experience that was both delicious and memorable
Chef Bongiovanni is a man of many culinary talents with an infectious personality
Our meal was a unique take on Italian classics

but I think people aren’t looking at the full picture of his career
for those who think he would instantly walk in the door and start winning
bringing all the vibes from his first tenure back
there’s no guarantee of that at all and that was not what happened the last time he led the Mountaineers
He had to endure a horrible 3-win season in his first year (worse than Holgorsen or Brown’s worst season)
but there’s no guarantee he wouldn’t need at least a year like that again
Now even for those who are willing to deal with a rough season or two with the hope Rodriguez eventually provides a higher ceiling than what Neal Brown has produced
his career doesn’t show that’s a lock to happen either
Rodriguez’s WVU tenure was obviously elite
but he’s basically had only one great season within the Power Four (then Power Five) level at both Michigan and Arizona combined
He won 10 games and led Arizona to an appearance in the 2014 Pac-12 Championship Game (thanks to winning a division
a format and path that won’t exist in the Big 12)
Because there will always be people who bring Rich Rod up and want him back coaching WVU
— Mike J. Asti (@MikeAsti11) November 17, 2024
And when looking more recently at what he’s doing at Jacksonville State
he’s having success and deserves credit for that
but it’s not like he’s steamrolling that schedule and his big turnaround is due to dropping three-straight games to open the season
fans would freak out before even allowing him to fix the year
It’s also fair to bring up that he’s not exactly playing a schedule anything close to what he would have in the Big 12/WVU’s usual OOC slate
Say what you want about the Big 12 lacking any great or elite team that can contend for a national title
there are still four teams ranked in the current College Football Playoff and the Associated Press’ poll
Rodriguez will never have four ranked teams to worry about in a conference like Conference USA
And no matter how much some people just want Rodriguez back no matter what
pretty much everyone I’ve talked to close to him doesn’t think he’d ever even want to deal with everything that comes with coaching WVU again
especially not at this point in his career and life
Rodriguez will forever go down as one of the greatest coaches in program history and the man responsible for one of the most exciting tenures ever in college football
he will forever be a “what if??” story
A “what if?” story is better than knowing he couldn’t do it again in this era
And if he returns to the WVU sidelines and his second tenure ends up not matching the hype
or worse…failing to even accomplish what Dana Holgorsen did
a West Virginia connection isn’t required to coach WVU and coaches without one have had success
Turning to Rich Rod feels like looking back
In November 2022, WVSN’s Mike Asti asked WVU legend Rasheed Marshall if he would ever want Rich Rodriguez to return as head coach of the Mountaineers during an episode of their past “All Three Phases” podcast

The two giants of the sparkling wine world
Each can ship nine-figure quantities of bottles in a year
The two regions also have brands that have made a mark on the international stage
both in commercial prospects and in awards recognition
Both are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscapes
which produces Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti
may fly under the radar compared to these giants
but it is nonetheless a vital player on the global sparkling wine scene
the wines of Asti have a distinct identity to separate them from the crowd
Asti DOCG produced more than 100 million bottles of its characteristic wine
Although smaller than Champagne and Prosecco
which produce around 300m bottles and more than 600m bottles respectively
Even accounting for a fall last year to around 90m bottles
it still sits at around twice the sparkling wine production of Australia
renowned producers such as Banfi produce the region’s characteristic wines
given its proximity to Barolo and Barbaresco
famously dry reds will also produce Asti’s delicate
as the results (detailed overleaf) from this year’s Global Sparkling Masters demonstrate
Asti’s wines are held in high renown when tasted blind by expert judges
Asti is the only region to have achieved a Master medal in each of the last four competitions
since 2014 Asti has been registered as part of the Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato UNESCO World Heritage Site
Nearly 2,000 hectares are protected under the Canelli and Asti Spumante sub-divisions
The designation celebrates “a territory where the vine undisputedly dominates and characterises the landscape thanks to its neat
geometric and well-cared rows disposed on the slopes of the hills”
managed agriculture and extensive winemaking facilities nicknamed “underground cathedrals”
Asti wines differ from their famous counterparts
The first Italian spumante was created in the region in 1865
using the traditional method popularised in Champagne
Federico Martinotti created the Martinotti method
which employs fermentation in a pressurised tank
are the combination of this method and the Moscato grape
The pressurised fermentation in a tank that the wines undergo preserves the varietal aromas while partially fermenting the grape’s sugars and adding effervescence
the resulting wines are 6%–9.5% ABV and more sparkling
They can be produced through the Martinotti method or
the end product has less fizz and an ABV of less than 6%
resulting from a single fermentation that is stopped once the desired alcohol level is reached
also known as Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains
gives characteristic fruity and floral notes to complement the residual sweetness
Although The winemaking adds structure through alcohol and effervescence
much of the grape’s natural charm is preserved
the wines of Asti DOCG are steadily earning a reputation as versatile options suitable for a variety of occasions
and the crowd-pleasing flavours make them an easy choice for a group
The fine mousse and lower alcohol levels can make them ideal as an aperitivo
opening an evening with lightness and approachability
Their natural sweetness also leaves them well-suited to the other end of the meal
being able to match the sugar found in many desserts
matches well to events with less hearty foods
There are even some who match them to the fruits and pastries of a breakfast
they are also well-suited to drinking without food
though the temptation to continue into the night may prove dangerous
Among the many popular pairings for Asti sparkling
sorbets or polenta cake would also work well
A number of starters that combine sweet and savoury are also good matches
many enjoy the contrast of spicy Thai curry and the sweet
it can match salty bacon as well as buttery croissants
That versatility is testament to the length and complexity often found in Asti DOCG wines
as well as a range of alcohol levels and effervescence
As evidenced by the judges’ comments at our Global Sparkling Masters
they warrant just as much attention as the world’s most famous sparkling wine regions
If the wines continue their winning streak
they may not fly under the radar much longer
Our expert judges gave medals to more than 40 wines from Asti at The Global Sparkling Masters 2024
A selection of Gold and Master medal-winning bottles is presented here
A great example of the inexpensive appeal that can be found with well-made Asti Spumante
this sub-£10 fizz is bursting with grapey-floral aromatics
while in the mouth it combines sweet raisined flavours with a fine
there’s a chalky-textured freshness to the finish
with fine bubbles and some cleansing citrus notes too
A wonderful example of just how enjoyable a good Moscato d’Asti can be: light
with the fresh acidity beautifully balancing its sweetness – it feels fresh
The finish is long and vibrant – a palate reviver
Perfect aperitif for a warm summer’s evening
but would also be perfect poured over and accompanying a bowl of fresh
but all its components are in balance and it is a true bargain
with plenty of creamy bubbles and an appealing vibrancy on the palate
with a good balance of sweetness and delicacy
with the low alcohol ideal for summer garden parties
and wonderful with a dessert of fresh peaches or a simple pear sorbet
with a hint of guava and mango giving a tropical twist
with its intense sweetness and light alcohol beautifully balanced by fresh acidity
A surprisingly complex nose of pure nectarine with a hint of ripe watermelon and white peaches
The palate is intensely luscious and decadent
but I might be tempted to take advantage of that fine sweetness-and-acid balance
and serve it with a rocket and feta salad dressed with pomegranate seeds
olive oil and a dash or two of high-quality balsamic vinegar

Minister for Education Helen McEntee addressing delegates at the ASTI annual conference. She said equality is a fundamental priority of the educational system. Picture: Don MacMonagle
A motion supporting the new protection was passed at the Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland (ASTI) annual conference in Killarney on Tuesday
Concern about cheating has become an increasing concern with the advent of generative AI
And a historic move to a new senior cycle syllabus from September
for which some 40% of marks will be drawn from project work in some subjects
who has been in the role from some 12 weeks
said that there will be “more guidance and clarity in the months ahead” on AI in schools
although AI guidance was issued by the State Exams Commission in 2023
“The issue of artificial intelligence is a concern that has been raised directly by teachers,” Ms McEntee said
“AI is here to stay and we need to know how our students can use it so that they're still learning but also the teachers are equipped to be able to support them on that as well
AI was raised as a major concern at the 103rd ASTI conference attended by some 500 delegates
Multiple teachers said that AI has already become so sophisticated that it can increasingly conceal plagiarism
AI is now driving other jurisdictions to reduce the amount of project-based work in State exams because they cannot accurately test their students
Dungarvan-based teacher Michael McGrath said
a French equivalent to a Leaving Certificate State exam
are reducing the percentage of marks derived from project work due to concerns with AI
“They have 20% practical assessment in their science subjects [in the baccalaureate]
They already see cheating happening and they are going back to 10% and probably back to 0% for the written exam,” Mr McGrath said
But the education minister said that having an element of continuous assessment in the senior cycle was important
“I think the focus on exams at the end of the two years places a huge burden and a huge amount of stress on students and we are unlike many other European countries where we have such a focus on exams at the end of the year," Ms McEntee said
The ASTI had been calling for a pause in the implementation of the new senior cycle model
Intensive talks between the teaching unions and the Department of Education about have been underway since early April
after the minister stated that the proposed senior cycle reforms will go ahead as planned
Unions had sought a one-year pause in order to ensure "adequate time and resources" for the implementation of the changes
would see the manner in which the Leaving Certificate swing towards project work as opposed to straight exams at the end of a student’s final year
with that non-exam work set to account for at least 40% of final marks in certain subjects
Teachers are retiring early to avoid teaching the new senior cycle redevelopment
He himself now plans to retire because he said that he cannot stand over the redeveloped syllabus and does not know how to teach students how to achieve top marks because it does not yet seem to be known by anyone
Inequality in the new syllabus is another deep concern
A past pupil who had holes in his jumper in school because he could not afford a new uniform got 625 points in his Leaving Cert and went on to study in Harvard
But he fears this will be impossible under the new system and only those whose parents have money will be able to buy their way into higher grades through schools with adequate facilities and AI which will secure them places in the top universities
“And we're going to see a situation here where if you're not in a private school you're not going to get the high achievers in college
they'll be going to private schools.”
One private school is already renovating a disused assembly hall into a state-of-the-art science lab with two lab technicians to prepare for the new senior cycle
Poorer schools will not be able to afford to build new labs and buy new equipment
or to pay for sophisticated AI to generate graphs and work that cannot be picked up by correctors in project work
But Ms McEntee said that equality is a fundamental priority of the educational system
“Education has the potential to ignite something in all of us,” she said
“No matter what your background or your ability
education has the capacity to lift people out of poverty and disadvantage
It has the capacity to break down barriers and to ensure that everyone can fulfil their full potential in life
It is at the centre of all our ambitions as a country.”

Whether celebrating a birthday party, graduation, wedding, or anniversary, certain occasions call for some sparkle. Enter Champagne
the go-to fizzy wine for all things festive
offering up a delightfully light and bubbly profile that keeps the good times rolling
But anyone who has ever sought out genuine Champagne knows that it can be expensive
which is why more budget-minded folks tend to opt for sparkling wine instead of actual Champagne
many will have similar flavor profiles — and
In an effort to figure out which cheap "Champagne" is the best of the best
I sampled 12 popular and widely available sparkling wines that are relatively inexpensive
None of the "Champagnes" on this list are actual Champagne — they are all some sort of sparkling wine
geared toward those who want to pop a celebratory bottle without spending too much money doing so
budget-friendly winner that is worthy of enjoying at your next party ..
and I also unearthed several options best left on that bottom shelf
If you've ever taken a stroll down the sparkling wine aisle at your local supermarket or liquor store
it's almost guaranteed that you've seen Cook's somewhere on the shelves (likely closer toward the floor)
As a quintessential cheap American sparkling wine brand
you'll see a few options in the Cook's lineup
so don't be tempted to reach for it just because it's ubiquitous
There was so much wrong with this bubbly that it's almost impossible to pinpoint all of the flaws
which according to the chart on the back of the bottle meant that it's medium-dry
imagine my shock when I took a sip and was met with a cloyingly sweet
I'm scared to know how the sweeter versions taste; I've already got a headache just thinking about it
I can't really fault it for; it's not pretending to be a high-end
I never knew that twist-off Champagne was even a thing
but when you seek out the cheapest possible sparkling wines
you're bound to come across some shocking discoveries
which pretty much tells you everything you need to know before even opening the bottle
most pathetic "pop" that I've ever heard from so-called sparkling wine
this did not bode well for how Verdi was going to taste
As was predictable from the lack of pop when I twisted off the bottle's cap
it almost feels misleading that this wine could be labeled as spumante
though if there's one good thing I can say about Verdi
it's that its taste was not terribly offensive
tasting more like sugar water than anything else — and
which kind of made the sugar-water flavor more understandable
If you're looking for something super-sweet and low in alcohol
it's really just not worth opting for this when there are better sparkling wines at similar price points out there
If there's one major disappointment on this list, it's Trader Joe's Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine, which I expected so much more from. I'm an avid Trader Joe's shopper, and I've definitely enjoyed my fair share of Two Buck Chuck
so I know that TJ's can provide cheap wine that still tastes pretty decent
the chain's inexpensive take on sparkling wine missed the mark completely
The first flavor note that I picked up when sipping this wine was a sour one
which wasn't necessarily entirely unwelcome among so many unexpectedly sweet options
and it quickly transformed into a chemical aftertaste that was citrusy in the worst way possible
This wine also burned my throat as it went down
which truly goes to show how sour and acidic it was
but Trader Joe's Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine is certainly not one of them
Much like Trader Joe's sparkling wine, Cupcake Prosecco was also a bit of a disappointment ... not quite as much of one as the TJ's abomination, but still pretty bad. Cupcake is a fairly ubiquitous brand of wine, available almost wherever vino is sold, and though the brand doesn't just sell sparkling wine, this Prosecco certainly is a popular option in its lineup
Something notable about Cupcake is that you're more likely to find it occupying store space a little more towards a middle shelf than a bottom shelf; it's still very cheap sparkling wine
but it's a step up from other options on this list (ahem
Cupcake's Prosecco isn't as much of a step up as it perhaps should be
This sparkling wine has a very citrusy flavor note to it
but not in a tasty way — more of a Pine-Sol
The wine also had a very pungent aftertaste to it
which is something that could be said for many of the options on this list
Cupcake isn't the absolute worst sparkling wine on this list
and I certainly don't see myself repurchasing this Prosecco ever again
at least when it comes to the bottom shelf of the sparkling wine section
there's a very good chance that you've had André before
as it's widely available and one of the absolute cheapest options on this list
while André was not particularly tasty by any means
it does begin to bridge a gap on this list between those sparkling wines that are completely unpalatable and those that are beginning to taste somewhat okay
this André variety was actually pretty sweet
though I actually didn't find it to be nearly as cloying as Cook's or Verdi
this one had a sort of chemical aftertaste that was pretty hard to ignore
but I would say that it wasn't quite so offensive
André is a get-what-you-pay-for kind of wine; it's super-cheap
it's sweet (even though it perhaps shouldn't be)
and if you can manage to choke down a couple glasses of it
then perhaps you'll be able to forget all the negatives
Korbel was the very first sparkling wine that I sampled from this list
so you'd think it might have left more of an impression than
Korbel really didn't leave me with any lingering thoughts
but I suppose that's both a good and bad thing
there was nothing obscenely offensive about Korbel — it didn't taste too sweet
and it was perhaps a bit tart more than anything else
it's clearly a pretty unremarkable option in the lineup
not leaving me with a lasting impression despite being the first bubbles to hit my palate
Something that I can appreciate about Korbel is that it felt like a true brut — unlike so many others on this list that claimed to be brut or extra dry but ended up being sweet
sour flavors almost translating into bitterness after a few sips
though in the grand scheme of lingering sparkling wine flavors
That sentiment pretty much sums up Korbel as a whole: It could have been better
Mionetto Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut marks the spot on this list where all of the Champagnes from here on out are decent
Mionetto did boast some sweetness — but unlike so many before it
the sweetness didn't come off as particularly cloying or unwelcome
This sparkling wine also isn't overly sweet
but it's got just enough of a sweet note to balance out any particularly sour or bitter ones
Mionetto is a good choice for those who want a good middle-ground sparkling wine
I did find there to be some better options out there
I will say that if you want a true brut Prosecco
then you're best off opting for one of the higher-ranked options on this list; however
then Mionetto is a solid (albeit unremarkable) option
If there's a single brand on this list that I would argue is more recognizable than any of the others (at least in the world of cheap wine)
Barefoot does indeed have a whole lineup of bubbly
including the brut cuvée that I sampled (and quite enjoyed) for the sake of this article
Barefoot's relatively high placement on this list comes down to a few key factors
and there most definitely are better options out there
But the aftertaste was one that I could easily get past
and I was actually able to pick up on some more specific flavor notes — like those of Granny Smith apples — than I experienced with other wines on this list
Another reason that Barefoot is ranking where it does is because it's super-accessible
very apple-forward (almost reminiscent of cider at certain sips)
Something severely lacking in so many sparkling wines on this list is complexity — and
you can only expect so much complexity from bottom-to-mid-shelf options
Chloe Prosecco managed to defy certain odds
packing a notable mix of flavors into the bottle and managing to taste pretty darn good
Something that I really liked about this Prosecco was how many notes I picked up on as I sipped — a little bit of citrus
and just the right mineral-forward edge to round it all out
For being a cheap "Champagne," Chloe delivered with a pretty nuanced flavor profile
Another perk to this Prosecco is that the bubbles were just right
but some of them were certainly more bubbly than others
It wasn't so bubbly that it was like drinking foam
and a good option for those who don't want something too sweet
Martini & Rossi produces a type of Asti
refers specifically to where the wine is made — in the case of this wine
because unlike all the other sparkling wines on this list
Martini & Rossi Asti boasts a sweet flavor profile
so I could only imagine that a sickly sweet
this Asti was remarkably smooth and balanced
Martini & Rossi Asti breaks into the top three because it proved to me that some sweet wines can actually taste good
there are plenty of people out there who prefer sweet wine
so if you want a little sweetness with your bubbles
There's more than just pure sweetness at play
too; there were notes of peach and honey present in this wine
coming in at about $16 for the bottle; of course
the price will vary depending on your location
I had high expectations for Josh based on price alone — not that $16 is expensive for a bottle of bubbly
but it is when compared to others on this list that cost less than $10
this was a solid sparkling wine through and through
and it's one that's worth the (slight) splurge
Josh works so well because it strikes a balance that many of the other wines simply couldn't compete with
and not one that necessarily blows you away — because this is
a relatively cheap bottle of wine — but one that goes down easy and doesn't leave any unpleasant aftertaste
There's really nothing bad to say about Josh
but there was one other sparkling wine in this lineup that somehow managed to outdo it
Anyone with a Costco membership knows that many treasures are waiting to be found in any given warehouse, and one such hidden gem is none other than Kirkland Signature Prosecco. There are many popular wines to buy at Costco
including bottles from well-known wineries
but you might as well skip the name-brand stuff and reach right for Costco's own bubbly
you really can't beat Kirkland Signature Prosecco
allowing even those on a budget to celebrate in style (and flavor)
Much like the other successful wines on this list
Costco's Prosecco struck a nuanced balance flavor-wise — not too sweet
I noticed that it almost didn't taste like alcohol
and extra dry; I could see myself purchasing another bottle of Kirkland Prosecco just because
with no special occasion or celebration necessary
When selecting which bottles of "Champagne" to feature in this article
I considered well-known brands — like André
and Cook's — along with offerings from popular stores
There was no way to possibly encompass every single brand of sparkling wine out there
but I feel that these selections offer a wide range and cover a decent amount of ground in terms of variety and price points
what I paid for the bottles on this list ranged from about $6.50 for André
these prices will vary depending on where you live and which stores you choose
but I tried to keep things truly "cheap" and chose a selection of sparkling wines that are ultimately quite similar in price
and general thoughts before moving on to the next
I figured that this was the fairest way to go about it
seeing as this taste test could easily turn into a blur of bubbles — I made sure to give each wine due diligence
and approach it with as open a mind as possible before tasting.
