Four TBMs will excavate eight tunnels on the Salerno–Reggio Calabria high-speed rail's Lot 1A Battipaglia-Romagnano section
Webuild has initiated the excavation on the 3km Saginara Tunnel of the Salerno–Reggio Calabria high-speed rail line in Italy by deploying Europe’s largest tunnel boring machine (TBM) named Partenope
This step marks the commencement of construction on a 35km stretch between Battipaglia and Romagnano
The launch event for the TBM was held in the town of Campagna in Salerno
at the Saginara Tunnel’s entrance in the Sele Valley hills
The project is a collaborative effort led by Webuild on behalf of Italian Railway infrastructure manager Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) and is part of the Italian government’s commitment to enhance the country’s rail infrastructure
The Salerno–Reggio Calabria high-speed rail line will utilise a total of four TBMs on Lot 1A Battipaglia-Romagnano to excavate eight mechanically bored natural tunnels
Lot 1A is contracted to the Xenia Consortium
which Webuild leads in partnership with Pizzarotti
Lot 1A lies wholly within Salerno province’s boundaries
Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard
Stay proactive with real-time data and expert analysis
This consortium is responsible for a segment of the Salerno–Reggio Calabria high-speed rail line project
which is expected to transform the transportation landscape in the region
spans roughly 130m in length and weighs about 4,000 tonnes
A team of more than 100 specialised technicians will operate and maintain the “innovative and eco-friendly” TBM
ensuring the safe construction of the rail line
each with a cutting head diameter of more than 13m
and its counterpart will tackle the Caterina and Sicignano double-track tunnels
In February 2023, Webuild and its consortium secured a €934m ($976m) contract for the Lot 3A rail bypass segment of a Trento

Fun Fact About Yourself: I met President George W
almost two years apart…and he remembered me
Undergraduate School and Major: United States Naval Academy
Most Recent Employer and Job Title: United States Marine Corps
Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: One of the great privileges in the Marine Corps includes being asked to promote junior Marines and sailors that one works with
Promotions are a source of pride for service members and are indicative of the additional schooling
training ,and sacrifices made to achieve them
I consider it my biggest accomplishment and honor to have been asked to promote several Marines and share in their special day
What quality best describes the MBA classmates you’ve met so far and why
I have only had the opportunity to meet fellow veterans at Stern
they are coming from varied military backgrounds and are making a drastic career change as their service time ends
Everyone is excited for this opportunity and eager to learn
and lay the foundations for their future careers
what was the key factor that led you to choose this program for your full-time MBA and why was it so important to you
Stern’s academic and professional reputation spanning industries and MBA programs is hardly any secret
What really piqued my interest in Stern was their emphasis on community and focus on individuals’ intellectual and emotional intelligence
and experiences that they can utilize to better the broader community
Sternies are a diverse group of ambitious students who embrace the principles above
What club or activity are you looking most forward to in business school
I am most eager to help future vets who are interested in attending an MBA program
I was fortunate enough to connect with several Stern MVC alums
who were invaluable to me throughout the whole application process
I feel a strong sense of responsibility to pay that forward
What led you to pursue an MBA at this point in your career
I decided that a 20+ year military career was not what I ultimately envisioned for myself
fellow veterans and others about pursuing an MBA and its many advantages
It became clear to me very quickly that attending a full-time program was too good of an opportunity to pass up on
How did you decide if an MBA was worth the investment
I have always believed that additional education can only benefit the individual seeking it
there are no drawbacks for going back to school
Couple that with the incredible career development and networking aspects of top-tier programs
and it becomes hard to put a price tag on an MBA
How did you determine your fit at various schools
I was looking for schools with a charismatic and collegial student body
and a location in places where I was generally interested
and walked around campus with other veterans
I know that travel can be difficult for some
but I found those campus visits to be extremely helpful in identifying the different cultures and attitudes at each program
Stern checked all the boxes of what I hoped for in an MBA and then some
its prime lower Manhattan location cannot be beat for practically any industry a candidate is interested in pursuing
What was your defining moment and how did it shape who you are
When I decided to attend the Naval Academy
I knew that I was making a nine-year decision (four-year college plus five-year obligated military service time)
It was a fairly daunting choice that would change my life forever
I hope to gain valuable work experience in strategy and finance
ultimately broadening my general management skills and business acumen
I see myself leading cohesive teams in the development of innovative
customer-centric business strategies and marketing techniques
I believe that Stern will help me get there

Treofan Group is installing a new €7.5 million highperformance coater at its Battipaglia site in Italy
significantly enhancing its ability to produce specialty films
Scheduled to enter operation in the second quarter of 2018
the line is designed to deliver an annual volume of 4,000 metric tons of specialty film with a wide variety of coatings
It is being installed by high-quality Swiss supplier Bobst
Thanks to the plant's highly flexible configuration
not only can it produce all of the existing product portfolio
it also allows for the development of new solutions – such as films with integrated mineral oil barriers
Both single- and double-side coatings are possible
including with different individual materials
so can be tailored to customers' varying needs
"This investment is another milestone in Treofan's transformation into a supplier of film surface technologies," says CEO Dr
"Not only does the new coater support our own innovation processes
it also broadens opportunities for developing new solutions jointly with our customers
It will thus make an important contribution towards expanding our strategic position in the premium segment."
that produces around 10,000 metric tons of coated film per year
the installation of which begins in the second quarter of 2017
will therefore increase the company's production capacity for coated film by 40 percent
Global demand for coated films is growing continually due to a number of trends
such as increasing requirements for flexible packaging to include barrier effects and to keep the packaged products fresh for longer
as well as the rise of new areas of applications such as perfumes

A market strategist laid out Wednesday what he foresees for the future of the U.S
market strategist of the private client group of Stifel
and chief investment officer of Washington Crossing Advisors
students and friends of Washburn University at the 2010 Economic and Investment Outlook
Battipaglia said the United States faces a number of short-term and long-term challenges
including deleveraging and trying to get out from underneath excess debt; the excess capacity due to excess debt; high unemployment rate; misapplied resources and missed opportunities; interest rates and tax rates; and demographics
"The stimulus plans have not been stimulating
they've been spending plans," Battipaglia said
"We need to incentivize the private sector to make capital investment and hire new workers that are sustainable
is not a creative function for future growth in the economy."
Battipaglia said the scrutiny that confronted the health care
sent a message to business leaders that they shouldn't make investments
hire workers or make business decisions because of the changing landscape
"I've found this evidence throughout the country that small business owners and people in those industries
Battipaglia praised Kansas' agricultural economy
housing market and the way the state's banks have handled affairs
the nation's irresponsibility has taken a toll on the health of the Kansas economy
"If I could have Americans act and behave the way Kansans do as far as their personal budgets and use of leverage
we probably wouldn't have had this mess in the first place," Battipaglia said
A group of applied portfolio management students from Washburn was encouraged by Battipaglia's outlook
The class manages $100,000 from the Washburn Endowment Association
some of the points he talked about are some of the exact things we subscribed to," said Brandon Holle
Battipaglia's words confirmed the direction the class is taking with the fund
and that's exactly how he is," said Dentin Chapman
Battipaglia is nationally known from frequent appearances on "Nightly Business Report," CNBC and Fox News
as well as views expressed in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal

-- State officials have suspended the license of the Mariners Harbor day care center where a 3-year-old boy drowned last month
including inadequate barriers to prevent children from gaining access to its swimming pool
grandmother of drowning victim Edward Harris
who drowned in the swimming pool at the Mother Byrd Group Family Daycare center in Mariners Harbor.(Staten Island Advance/Irving Silverstein
The state Office of Children and Family Services website lists seven violations for Mother Byrd Family Daycare
each dated July 25 -- the day after Edward Harris
drowned in the facility's above-ground
Family members of the victim criticized the state for not acting sooner
"It should have been prevented a long time ago," the victim's grandmother
told the Advance from her home in Travis on Monday
"Even though they have their license revoked
but I'm still looking at the city and the state because that pool was always there
so why would they ever give a license to that daycare?" she asked
"My grandson could still be alive." State officials last inspected the day care center on December 5
and the agency did not cite the facility for any violations at the time
Extensive regulations govern registered or licensed day-care facilities
including the requirement that pools on site must have barriers at least 48 inches high
In addition to not having the proper barriers surrounding its pool
the facility where the drowning occurred racked up several other violations during its most recent inspection.According to the OCFS website
other offenses included not maintaining daily attendance records; not having written permission from parents for sleeping arrangements; not keeping files of those authorized to take the children from the center; not maintaining files on children's health records
and not keeping files documenting the arrival and departure times of employees and volunteers
The owner of Mother Byrd could not immediately be reached for comment
Battipaglia said Edward had attended the day-care center in Mariners Harbor since he was about 4 months old
He was supposed to start prekindergarten at PS 26 in the fall
worked at Mother Byrd for about five years and was caring for children at the daycare center when Edward drowned
Battipaglia said. The victim somehow slipped into an above-ground backyard pool at the school at approximately 5:41 p.m
The boy had been removed from the pool by the time responding officers arrived
He was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center
"It has not been easy for the family," said Mrs
"I was in church yesterday with tears in my eyes -- my husband gets off work and sits outside crying."
Mother Byrd is challenging the accusations

the little boy who drowned in a Mariners Harbor pool Thursday
remembered him as "a very active child."
Speaking Friday in the living room of the Travis home she shared with the 3-year-old and their family
an emotionally exhausted Elizabeth Johnson Battipaglia said Edward "loved to play baseball," soccer and basketball
and was looking forward to trying out for a baseball team in September
Mrs. Battipaglia said Edward had attended Mother Byrd Licensed Daycare Preschool in Mariners Harbor, where the drowning occurred Thursday, since he was about 4 months old
She added that Edward enjoyed playing in a small baby pool at the family's home in Travis and speculated that he may have jumped into the pool at Mother Byrd
Battipaglia said Edward's mother pulled him from the water and that the child's grandfather
Battipaglia was incorrectly identified as the child's father in earlier reports
Battipaglia said they raised Edward as if he was their own
a spokeswoman for the Police Deputy Commissioner of Public Information said Friday
A person entering Mother Byrd on Friday said the daycare center had "no comment right now." Knocks on the door went unanswered when a Advance reporter and photographer visited Friday
A man who lives down the block from the center said that he saw and heard two women screaming Thursday as they ran from a car parked down the block toward Mother Byrd
a fire truck and an ambulance pulled up to the daycare center
"I saw all these people -- reporters and ambulances and stuff like that," a woman who operates a daycare center down the block said of Thursday's incident
at meetings required for licensed day care providers

Gallery: Grandmother reflects on the death of her grandson
Austria -- When New Yorker Diana Mittler-Battipaglia sat at the piano in Vienna's Karajan Center and played her father's music
''It was something I never thought in my wildest dreams would come true
I had always said it would be so wonderful if my father could have a homecoming in Vienna
Diana Mittler-Battipaglia was here as a guest of Vienna's Orpheus Trust
a small nonprofit organization that brings home the music of several thousand musicians
composers and musicologists who were lost to Austria as a result of the Nazis
once among Austria's most promising musical talents
When German troops marched into Austria in 1938
He immigrated to the United States where he remained for most of his life
''His generation had the misfortune to be hit by two world wars and the Great Depression,'' said Mittler-Battipaglia
a music professor at Lehman College of the City University of New York
''That he was able to withstand all of that and make a new career for himself in America when he was 50 years old is remarkable.''
Mittler arranged and composed music and toured with his First Piano Quartette
he was drawn back to Europe and in his last years worked with the Summer Academy in Salzburg
we have learned how much these people dreamed of bringing home their music,'' said Orpheus Trust founder
Gruber formed the Orpheus Trust in 1996 in response to what she described as ''a spirit of amnesia'' that pervaded postwar Austria
She began her search for lost music in 1996
the Trust's database has expanded to include 2,000 biographical entries
references to 4,500 compositions and over 60 oral history interviews with artists still living
The Orpheus Trust tracks down and catalogs lost music and makes it available to researchers
It also promotes public awareness of the works of Austrian artists whose work has been lost to most of their countrymen
''Almost every artist that we try to track is very interesting because it is like a kind of a puzzle,'' Gruber said
Mittler-Battipaglia herself was responsible for finding a formerly unknown piano trio that her father had written
''I was writing my dissertation at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester and one of my advisers suggested I write about my father
I told him that I only had about 20 pieces of music and didn't think I had enough material
I looked in the card catalog and I found reference to a piano trio and an opus of songs that I never knew he had written,'' she said
She found the score in the library stacks and has been performing it ever since
the Orpheus Trust was given custody of the artistic estate of another Viennese composer
known in the United States as Fred Spielman
Spielmann's works are now archived and accessible to the public at Vienna's Literaturhaus
established by members of the Spielmann family and the City of Vienna
provides research grants to young musicians and musicologists
In the 1930's he was one of the greatest exponents of so-called Wienerlieder (Viennese songs)
His ''Schinkenfleckerl'' describes the search in a plate of noodles for elusive pieces of ham
is a clever social commentary on the troubled prewar years in Austria when many people were too poor to afford meat
He emigrated to Cuba and then went on to the United States where
His ''Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'' is now part of American popular culture
he won a Grammy Award for the hit ''Paper Roses.''
Spielmann and Mittler are just two of several thousand musical talents lost to Austria as a result of the Nazi occupation
when the country was absorbed into Hitler's Third Reich
one of her father's nephews was in the audience
He had read about the concert in the newspaper
He didn't know his uncle had been a composer and never knew he had a daughter

who drowned two years ago in a backyard pool at a Mariners Harbor day care center
has filed a $10 million wrongful-death lawsuit against the center
because the defendants "negligently maintained an unsecured swimming pool" at the former Mother Byrd Group Family Day Care Center on Maple Parkway
Police said Edward somehow slipped into an above-ground pool at the center at approximately 5:41 p.m
a Travis resident who is temporary administrator of her son's estate
the owner of the property where the center was situated
The day care facility was on the first floor of a semi-attached two-story residence
A summons with notice of the suit was recently filed in state Supreme Court
A man who returned a phone message left for Byrd said she is unaware of the suit
A spokesman for the state Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) said the center's license to operate was suspended and revoked after the incident
extensive regulations govern registered or licensed day-care facilities
previously told the Advance that Edward had attended the day-care center since he was about 4 months old
He was scheduled to start prekindergarten at PS 26 in the fall of 2004
worked at Mother Byrd for about five years and was caring for children at the day-care center when Edward drowned
She said Johnson pulled him from the water and the child's grandfather
Battipaglia told the Advance her grandson enjoyed playing at a small baby pool at the family's home, and speculated he may have jumped into the pool at Mother Byrd, not knowing how deep it was.
She said Edward was a "very active child" who loved to play baseball
and had been looking forward to trying out for a baseball team
The center was licensed to oversee 12 children between six weeks and 12 years old
as well as four additional school-age children
the Office of Children and Family Services cited the day-care center for seven violations
violations included not maintaining daily attendance records; not having written permission from parents for sleeping arrangements; not keeping files of those authorized to take the children from the center; not maintaining files on children's health records
Prior to the incident, state officials last inspected the day-care center on December 5, 2013, according to OCFS records. The agency did not cite the facility for any violations at the time
The day-care center was first licensed in 2007
