Jenna Biancavilla’s career could have looked differently today had she pursued the healthcare industry
Despite going to school for pre-med and volunteering in hospitals as a young freshman out of college
she recalls the environment being frustratingly sad
“I didn't have good mentors and leaders to say you don't have to work in a hospital,” the Arizona-based principal said
I did a whole career study on myself and found that I love people
I got plugged into this career through a career assessment and I feel like I'm exactly where I need to be because I did that work early on.”
Biancavilla has accomplished a lot in such a short time
launched a technology platform Svvy with her sister
Svvy is a financial advisor vetting service that educates and empowers women
and connects them with a vetted advisor who has their best interests at heart
recognizing the lack of non-professional education beyond introductory financial literacy courses
she also launched an accessible online masterclass last year
This initiative makes tried and true investment philosophies available to a broader audience
presenting complex financial concepts in a digestible and easy-to-understand format
She’s a multi-entrepreneur who’s trailblazing the future for women advisors
“I'm pulling women into the industry and letting them learn this new career path helping them use some of their soft skills that they were told weren't great for STEM
but instead say ‘What makes us unique as women actually makes you a great advisor,’ Biancavilla said
“Teaching them how and what makes them different is actually what's going to make them successful in a male dominated industry.”
These initiatives and Biancavilla’s uplifting attitude are several reasons why she’s being recognized as an InvestmentNews Awards 2024 Excellence Awardee, with the winners announced on June 20 at 583 Park Avenue, New York City in a glitzy, red carpet ceremony. Click here to register to attend
Reflecting on what makes her a standout nominee
she says being a young female owner of an RIA firm makes her very different
“I started the RIA firm when I was 29 years old
which the whole industry says you're not supposed to do when you're a young woman
“It's such a passion project of mine to empower women investors and I'm just really excited that this passion of making the financial world a little bit safer for women is actually being noticed and recognized,” she added

Robert Biancavilla is the deputy chief of homicide for the Suffolk County district attorney
Biancavilla decided to found the Duck Island Bread Company
After years of selling products at the Northport Farmers Market, he has finally expanded his business to open a fully-equipped bakery in Huntington, Newsday reports
According to Duck Island Bread Company’s Yelp page

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office in New York doled out $3.25 million in bonuses to prosecutors from its asset forfeiture fund since 2012
according to records obtained by Newsday through a Freedom of Information request
Newsday reported that the funds were $500,000 more than previously reported
leading to consternation from local legislators:
Bonus recipients included deputy chief homicide prosecutor Robert Biancavilla
who received a total of $108,886 between 2012 and 2017
and division chief Edward Heilig and top public corruption prosecutor Christopher McPartland

"Asset forfeiture money that comes into this county counts into the millions of dollars," Calarco said
"That's a lot of money to be spent at the sole discretion of an individual with no oversight."
Attorney's Office has subpoenaed the Suffolk County D.A
Former Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota and McPartland have been indicted for their alleged role in the coverup
the bonuses reveal one of the more problematic aspects of asset forfeiture
Law enforcement groups say asset forfeiture is a vital tool to disrupt organized drug trafficking
civil liberties advocates argue that lax reporting requirements
and the fact that asset forfeiture proceeds often flow directly into police and prosecutor budgets
create oversight-free expense accounts and perverse profit incentives
As I wrote in September
recent news investigations have revealed several instances asset forfeiture accounts being used as off-the-books revenue streams:
Philadelphia Weekly, in collaboration with City & State PA, reported Wednesday that the local D.A.'s office had spent $7 million in asset forfeiture funds over the last five years
including "at least one contract that appears to have violated city ethics guidelines—construction work awarded to a company linked to one of the DA's own staff detectives." […]
Meanwhile, Cincinnati's City Beat published a similar investigation into Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters' forfeiture piggy bank
City Beat found that the prosecutor office's $1.7 million forfeiture fund "has been tapped regularly for mundane purchases and
sketchy consulting contracts that Deters won't discuss."
The Institute for Justice, a libertarian-leaning law firm that has challenged forfeiture laws in several states, released a report this year finding that 26 states have little to no transparency requirements for asset forfeiture
Fourteen states "do not appear to require any form of property tracking
leaving in doubt even such basic questions as what was seized and how much it was worth
Without stricter oversight and reporting requirements
the public must take it on faith that police and prosecutors in places like Suffolk County are being scrupulous with the money they seize from them
a Suffolk County prosecutor facing criminal charges for covering up the civil rights violations of a U.S
citizen received more than $70,000 in bonuses for his job performance
Who knows what else is hiding in the forfeiture accounts—and duffel bags—of the public officials sworn to protect us

A free shuttle to the fair will be available to and from Old Main and Linkins Hall
Spring Fling began in 1974 and has grown to be the nation’s largest student-run carnival
according to the Associated Students of the University of Arizona
More than 25 attractions and 20 food booths brought at least 25,000 people to the event last year
While this year’s festivities will continue Spring Fling’s long-standing traditions
carnival-goers can expect some changes and new attractions as well
For the first time in Spring Fling history
attendees can pay for their admission and tickets with credit cards
a history senior and executive director of Spring Fling
The update was made along with several other service-oriented changes in an effort to address customer complaints
Another enhanced feature of Spring Fling 2012 is the array of live performances
The carnival will showcase two to three local acts each day
which takes the stage on Saturday at 7 p.m
Children may find entertainment in the kid’s corner
which now features face painting and book readings
Spring Fling brings the UA and Tucson community together
Thirty four student organizations from across the university and 19 sponsors from throughout the city will contribute to this year’s carnival
“It’s so great for me to see the community partner with students,” Steinke said

pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Darwish Ali Darwish
More than 28 years after a Brooklyn man was found bludgeoned and stabbed almost 40 times by the side of the Southern State Parkway
State Police used DNA evidence to make an arrest in the case Wednesday
dying by the side of what was then the Heckscher Spur of the parkway
"There was a certain amount of viciousness," said Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla
Less than two months before he was killed, Darwish had been released from prison, where he had served 7 years for killing Carl Innab, Raed Innab's uncle, New York State Police said
Biancavilla credited state police for solving the cold case with the use of updated DNA forensic technology
Biancavilla said investigators reviewed blood and other trace evidence left at the crime scene
The knife believed to be the murder weapon was left at the scene
politics and crime stories in Suffolk County
and when it was entered into the state's database
Another man also participated in killing Darwish
A witness saw two men leave the scene in a Cadillac
Since Darwish's death, Innab has been in and out of prison on a variety of theft convictions, said Biancavilla and defense attorney Richard Stafford of Bohemia
Stafford said his client denies having anything to do with Darwish's death
"He doesn't know what they're talking about," Stafford said
Suffolk County Court Judge Stephen Braslow ordered Innab held without bail
"We consider him an extreme flight risk," Biancavilla said

DNA evidence found on two murdered prostitutes doesn’t mean John Bittrolff killed the woman
defense attorney William Keahon said Monday in his closing statement of the murder case against Mr
But Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said that while more than 50 suspects were tested, Mr. Bittrolff was the only one whose DNA matched what was found at both crime scenes
The bodies of both victims were discovered in wooded areas months apart more than 20 years ago
Biancavilla said a forensics expert testified that both women had sex within a half hour of dying
Biancavilla told the jury in state Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro’s courtroom
The nine-week-old case is now with the jury

was arrested on second-degree murder charges in 2014 for the 1993 and 1994 cold cases
1993 in the woods off Esplanade Drive near South Country Road in East Patchogue
1994 in the woods east of the William Floyd Parkway in North Shirley
Both women worked as prostitutes and were found nude
Both victims were also discovered with their legs spread apart and had wood chips on their bodies
Keahon spent much of his closing statement arguing that evidence destroyed by police in both murder cases could have identified other suspects

Keahon highlighted the investigations of Suffolk County Police Officer Teddy Hart
who was fired in 2001 for making threats of violence toward women
Murphy — who was investigated in 1998 and whose father was head of Suffolk detectives at the time — murder evidence placed inside a police vehicle was destroyed in 2005

Biancavilla said both police officers were eliminated as suspects through DNA
He acknowledged that evidence in both cases were mistakenly destroyed and said it was due to a labeling error

The premier news outlet covering Riverhead Town
was found stabbed to death in her apartment
testified about looking in her bedroom window after her daughter failed to show up at work
Even as a man followed her constantly, called her, stared at her and peeked in her bedroom window while she was with her boyfriend, Laura Pizzini never saw him as a threat -- until he stabbed her and let her bleed to death, a Suffolk prosecutor said Monday
"She never called police," Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said in his opening statement of Pizzini
killed two years ago in her Mastic kitchen
That man, prosecutors said, is Guenter Wende, 44, on trial for second-degree murder before Suffolk County Court Judge Barbara Kahn
Wende's defense attorney said his client is not guilty
obsessive" love that she did not share
telling friends she could deal with the man she called "my stalker."
this was a bad decision that cost her her life," he said
she's seen on a video at her favorite bar
kissing Wende on the cheek after he bought her drinks
But then he followed her home and when she told him they would never be together
he stabbed her with a 10-inch hunting knife through the stomach
Suffolk County Police investigating the murder of Laura Pizzini arrested Guenter Wende, 42, of Mastic
and I can't live like this," according to Biancavilla
Defense attorney Jason Bassett said that never happened
He said his socially awkward client makes a convenient target
but he lived a life without violence or trouble before this
Bassett said Wende signed a nine-page confession only after he was "interrogated by a tag team of detectives for 12 hours" leaving him with "a big old welt above his left eye."
Even the idea that Wende lay down next to Pizzini after stabbing her makes no sense
A police crime scene video shown to the jury showed little blood outside the large gash in Pizzini's stomach
Bassett noted that it's not the jury's job to decide who other than Wende might have killed her
But he noted that her boyfriend had just gotten out of jail after a parole violation
a previous boyfriend was a martial arts devotee like Pizzini and another ex-boyfriend hanged himself a month after she died
The chocolate "croissant block" at Duck Island Bread Company in Huntington
The croissant has become so commonplace — and
so rotund — that one is apt to forget that the word means “crescent” in French
the pastry’s shape has taken another hit with the introduction of the cube croissant
the latest social media craze sweeping the nation’s bakery cases
Duck Island Bread Company in Huntington has hopped on the trend with two comely cubic confections
As Duck Island’s regular croissants are among LI’s very best
the bar was set high for what owner Robert Biancavilla calls his “croissant blocks.”
“I saw them on Instagram a few months ago,” Biancavilla said
“And I just figured out how to do it.” Basically
instead of rolling up a long triangle of dough into the traditional shape
he cuts the dough into four squares that fit
Whereas a regular croissant can rise freely
blocked at the top by the mold’s lid so that all six sides are as flat and crisp as an army cot
a 3-inch cube croissant might be a bit ponderous to eat
but Biancavilla has solved that problem by piping in two layers of filling per croissant
The one filled with strawberry preserves and whipped cream is topped with more whipped cream and sliced fresh strawberries
Its dark consort is filled with whipped chocolate ganache and salted caramel and topped with ganache glaze and toasted pecans
The strawberry and cream "croissant block" at Duck Island Bread Company in Huntington
Biancavilla is happy to ride the cubic wave but regards these interlopers as novelty items
“We sell hundreds of croissants a day but only make a dozen each of the blocks — unless someone has special ordered them

Long Island (WABC) -- A man charged with killing his mother by drowning her in their Long Island swimming pool Wednesday gave details of the crime in a taped confession
is facing charges of second-degree murder in the death of 63-year-old Elizabeth Cullen at their home on White Hill Road
prosecutors said he told police during a multi-hour confession that he and his mother were in the pool when they got into a fight about him not taking his psychiatric medication
He had been diagnosed several years ago with paranoid schizophrenia and had been recently released from the hospital
walked from the shallow end of the pool with her in the headlock to the deep end of the pool -- all the time while she was struggling," said Robert Biancavilla with the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office
and then took her body out of the pool and put it near a shed in their backyard
"He went into the house and took a shower
"Took her car to the Cold Spring Harbor train station
Then the three of them returned to the Lloyd Harbor residence where he was placed under arrest."
"He said she struggled violently and he was very surprised that a woman of her stature could struggle as much as she did," Biancavilla said
Cullen's attorney said he spoke with with his client for about 20 minutes Thursday morning
"He's pretty calm," said Steve Fondulis
"He hasn't been convicted of anything so he's not sorry at this point
He hasn't said 'I'm sorry.'"

at Suffolk County Court in Riverhead to an indictment charging him with second-degree murder in the Aug
The young man accused of killing his mother in their Lloyd Harbor backyard earlier this month not only drowned her
but also strangled her and likely beat her
a Suffolk prosecutor said in court Tuesday
pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with second-degree murder in the Aug
Prosecutors had said that Cullen got his mother in a headlock by the side of their pool
dragged her into the shallow end and walked her into the deep end
drowning her — but Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said there was more to it than that
An autopsy showed she was asphyxiated not only by drowning but by neck compression
her scalp had several cuts and her body was “covered” in bruises
suggesting a protracted struggle before Cullen got his mother in the headlock and pulled her into the pool
to say the least,” Biancavilla said to Suffolk County Court Judge Stephen Braslow in Riverhead
Follow the latest developments in the Gilgo Beach killings investigation
Mother and son argued in the house about whether he was taking prescribed medication
and then Denis Cullen walked through the yard and sat by the pool
His mother followed him there and the argument intensified
Cullen told detectives during a videotaped confession that he was surprised by how much a woman as small as his mother could struggle while she drowned
Biancavilla said her son put the body next to their pool house and covered it with a dinghy so no one would find her
showered and took his mother’s credit card and car keys
and drove to the Cold Spring Harbor train station
Cullen met a sister in Manhattan and told her what had happened
who then called Lloyd Harbor village police
Braslow replaced Cullen’s assigned attorney
with John Halverson of Patchogue shortly before the arraignment
“I don’t believe arraignment is the place to try the case,” Halverson said in court
He asked Braslow to order a psychiatric evaluation of his client and to put him on a suicide watch
Halverson said a psychiatric defense is possible
said that when Cullen was talking about the killing with detectives
husband of victim Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne
stands next to a homicide detective at Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on Monday
An Oakdale contractor and his son were heading to work one morning in July 2014 when the men discovered a torso lying in an abandoned lot in Bay Shore
the contractor testified Monday at Leah Cuevas' murder trial in Riverhead
"It looked like the upper part of a mannequin," Ronald Sparwell told jurors
The torso belonged to a young Brooklyn mother
arms and legs had been hacked off after she was killed by Cuevas
over a dispute about rent and utility payments
Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla told jurors Monday during opening statements
Browne's legs were found near her torso
Her head and arms were found days later in three different locations in Hempstead
Biancavilla walked a few feet to a table where Cuevas was sitting with her team of lawyers in Suffolk County Court Judge John J
Toomey Jr.'s courtroom and pointed at Cuevas
politics and crime stories in Nassau County
"The evidence will prove she is a stone-cold killer," he said
jumped to her feet and complained to the judge that Biancavilla's behavior was inappropriate
The judge allowed it and Biancavilla moved on
was last seen alive entering her Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment building July 5
having just returned from doing the wash at a local coin laundry
Neighbors in the building heard Browne and Cuevas arguing again
a continuation of the same fight the women had throughout the July 4 weekend
That was the last time anyone heard from Browne
Abbate told jurors her client argued and fought with Browne
and that was how Browne's blood ended up on Cuevas' wall and curtains
cut her into pieces and dump her body parts across Long Island
"Those drops of blood are consistent with the fight," Abbate said
Abbate did not explain how a pool of Browne's blood
which she described as the size of a dinner plate
She told jurors they should ask themselves why the large amount of Browne's blood wasn't discovered in Cuevas apartment until five months after Browne's death
The circumstantial case against Cuevas is pieced together by witness testimony
Investigators tracked Cuevas' cellphone to learn of her movements in the days after Browne disappeared
and used witness testimony to corroborate Cuevas' whereabouts
A cabbie who drove Cuevas and her large suitcase
which investigators believe contained Browne's body parts
showed that Cuevas sold two rings -- a wedding band and an engagement ring that belonged to Browne -- for $170
shoes and other items that belonged to Browne to a friend to be donated to those living in Haiti
Mandy Jo Jenkins is seen in a handout photo
A North Amityville woman made two logical decisions that led to her getting fatally shot four times in the head and once in the chest while she slept
was to file identity theft charges against a woman who used her name to defraud a bank
Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said
The second was to trust her live-in boyfriend
Biancavilla said Newbeck killed Jenkins when she refused to withdraw identity theft charges against his girlfriend
DeFelice to protect her," Biancavilla said during his opening statement at DeFelice's trial before Suffolk County Court Judge John Toomey Jr
Newbeck executed her while she slept on the couch in his apartment
DeFelice set up Mandy Jo to be executed."
"Joe's actions are that of a witness," Stafford said
"Joe didn't want Mandy Jo to die."
Biancavilla said the evidence will show otherwise
when Newbeck showed up at the Halloween products warehouse where DeFelice and Jenkins lived and worked
DeFelice gave Newbeck a key and took his Rottweiler outside
Biancavilla said Newbeck shot her with a .45-caliber handgun
Mandy Jo Jenkins would be here today," Biancavilla said
DeFelice is as guilty of the murder of Miss Jenkins as the person who pulled the trigger."
DeFelice called 911 and told the first of four versions of what had happened
Jurors in Riverhead listened to a recording of the lengthy call
in which the operator asked incredulously why he took so long to call
"I heard three gunshots," DeFelice said later on the call
"I started crying and lost my mind."
Biancavilla said DeFelice told officers an unknown masked man held him at gunpoint while Newbeck shot Jenkins
Then Biancavilla said DeFelice told detectives a version similar to his 911 call and finally described helping Newbeck get the gun and leading him to Jenkins
Police found Jenkins' body on a dead end street in Lindenhurst after seeing Newbeck go there in October 2010 with work gloves and a shovel
Newbeck fled and was arrested weeks later in Texas about to board a flight to Ecuador
this method is assumed to be technically challenging compared to traditional surgical procedures
There has been a quantum leap from laparotomy to laparoscopic to robotic-assisted pancreatectomy with the advancement of technology. For decades, procedures that were consistent with oncology principles for obtaining an accurate prognosis were studied with regard to malignant tumours in the pancreatic tail or body [6, 7]
spleen preservation is gaining appreciation as the concept of precise surgical procedures is advancing
Despite advancements in potential therapeutic approaches
post-operative pancreatic fistula (POPF) continues to be a surgical complication begging for greater intervention
Short-term results of SVP and Warshaw operations were found to be different when studies were compared [17–19]
It is worth noting that the long-term effects of the Warshaw technique
particularly on the immunological functioning of preserved spleens
the present study is conducted to review the available literature reports to outline the techniques and results of LDP (laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy) for malignant and benign pancreatic disorders
A laparoscopic retractor device can also be used to retract the stomach otherwise
intra-operative ultrasound is used to determine the lesion’s exact position
The pancreas is then mobilized once the mobilization of the inferior pancreatic border is done
making it accessible to the surface of the posterior pancreas
The superior pancreatic border is dissected further to allow placement of nylon tape around the pancreas
The use of this nylon tape is made to demarcate surgical planes and permit greater mobility
Trocar placement for laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy
is suggested during LDP for cancer because it enables easier lymphadenectomy at the celiac trunk and hepatic artery
The use of a laparoscopic 90° serrated grasper facilitates slinging the splenic vessels with vessel loops
A lateral-to-medial dissection can be tried if the lesion is situated distally in the tail
Short-term post-operative outcomes of LDP and ODP
Ap < 0.001; results expressed as mean ± standard deviation

it has been claimed that an improved view during laparoscopic surgery
which allowed better splenic vessel visualisation
Kimura et al. described an SPDP technique in 1996, which included splenic vein and artery preservation [3]
The researchers came to the conclusion that the method is safe and easy
this spleen-preservation procedure is recognized to be technically demanding
because the dissection of splenic vessels should be performed circumferentially and should be carefully separated from the pancreas
This method is recommended for proven benign illness
this technique is recommended when there is no attachment of the lesion to the splenic vessels or spleen; otherwise
a subsequent splenectomy or a SPDP with splenic vessel resection is required
Warshaw introduced an SPDP with splenic vessel transection in 1988 [4]. The transection of the splenic vein and artery is performed along the side of the portomesenteric vein and at the splenic hilum during this technique, which is now known as the Warshaw method. Staplers or Hem-o-lok clips can be used for vascular control [24, 55]
It is vital to note that by using 2 Hem-o-lok clips
Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy has been indicated to provide improved peri-operative outcome viz
and decreased post-operative morbidity prognosis over open distal pancreatectomy technique for premalignant and benign pancreatic ailments
Radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy can increase the negative margin rate and the total number of retrieved lymph nodes
thereby facilitating radical resection as well as prolonged survivability
RAMPS could be recommended for all tumours that are operable involving the pancreatic tail and body when there is no availability of a pre-operative histological diagnosis
are recommended for malignant pancreatic diseases and have short-term and long-term results that are comparable
If a Kimura technique does not appear to be possible during SPDP
a Warshaw procedure would be suggested instead of conducting a splenectomy

Cullen was arrested in the drowning death of his mother
A Lloyd Harbor man confessed in “chilling detail” to police that he dragged his mother to their backyard swimming pool and drowned her after they argued over him not taking his medication
pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Elizabeth Cullen

Cullen and his mother argued earlier in the morning on Wednesday over him not taking his medication and he later dragged her into the pool and drowned her
“The argument escalated to the point where she had poked him,” Biancavilla said
walked her from the shallow end of the pool with her in the headlock to the deep end of the pool
He said she struggled violently and he was surprised a woman of her stature could struggle as much as she did.”
Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini and Det
Kevin Beyrer give details at a news conference about the arrest of Denis D
in the death of his mother at their Lloyd Harbor home on Wednesday
Neither Biancavilla nor Cullen’s defense attorney would specify the type of medication Cullen was supposed to be taking
Denis Cullen then carried her body out of the pool and placed it next to a shed in the backyard and covered her body with a dinghy

The three then returned to the home and Cullen turned himself in to cops
Police said they received the call to do a wellness check about 3:45 p.m
Wednesday and found Elizabeth Cullen’s body at about 4 p.m
Defense attorney Steve Fondulis of Port Jefferson said he was assigned by the court to represent Cullen and spoke to him for about 10 minutes before court and said that his demeanor was “calm.”
“There’s a lot of work to be done,” Fondulis said
“I have to determine if he has a psychiatric background
I have to determine if he’s under a doctor’s care
so he’s not sorry at this point; he hasn’t said ‘I’m sorry.’ ”
Asked if Cullen has a history of drug abuse or mental illness
Fondulis said he had “notations of some kind of history
and none could be reached for comment Thursday
A Lloyd Harbor police officer was stationed outside the Cullen family home Thursday and turned reporters away from White Hill Road
Records show the $1.8 million home is on 2 acres in the affluent North Shore village that rarely sees any major crime

Sabrina Hornoff pleaded guilty to disposing of the body of Felix Hidalgo Jaquez
Her now deceased former boyfriend had been charged with his murder
A former Brentwood woman admitted Monday in court that she helped her then-boyfriend set fire to the body of a man he had just shot to death
pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal facilitation
she had been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Felix Hidalgo Jacquez
agreed to sentence her to 5 years probation on June 27
Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said the plea deal is “based on the fact that Miss Hornoff cooperated with the office of the district attorney against Mr
Hornoff was prepared to testify against Bisbal
Jury selection was scheduled to begin Monday for Bisbal
but he died last month in the Suffolk County jail in Riverhead
Both Biancavilla and defense attorney Daniel Russo of Westhampton Beach said the investigation showed that although Hornoff was aware that Bisbal intended to kill Hidalgo
to Medford and shot him in the head and neck at an office building parking lot
Hornoff then helped dispose of the body nearby
Video surveillance showed Bisbal driving Hidalgo’s sport utility vehicle
Russo said outside the courtroom his client
who was released from jail in January as part of her cooperation agreement
was psychologically and emotionally abused by Bisbal when they were together
had complete control over her,” Russo said

A North Amityville woman was shot and killed in her sleep in August at the warehouse where she lived because she had refused to drop identity theft allegations against a female acquaintance
multiple times after Jenkins refused his orders that she drop a criminal complaint filed against Newbeck's girlfriend
Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said after Newbeck's arraignment in Suffolk County Court
Newbeck later fled to Texas, where he was caught by federal agents last month shortly before he was to board a flight to Ecuador
who pleaded not guilty Monday to second-degree murder and other charges
is the second person charged in connection with Jenkins' death on Aug
hindering prosecution and criminal facilitation
Both DeFelice and Newbeck are held in jail without bail
said outside court there is "exculpatory evidence" that "points the finger at somebody else" as the person who killed Jenkins

DeFelice had reported his girlfriend missing on Aug
then gave police six different accounts of her disappearance
who was under surveillance following Jenkins' death
inadvertently led police to her body on Oct
Police saw him stop at his father's store and leave with a shovel before he bought a pair of blue rubber gloves at a 7-Eleven store
Newbeck then went to the North Lindenhurst railroad tracks to dig up Jenkins' body
He fled when he suspected he was being watched
The next day, a friend drove Newbeck to Virginia, Biancavilla said. From there, Newbeck rented a car and drove to Alabama, then rented another car and drove to Texas
Newbeck was extradited from Texas last week
Jenkins had filed a criminal complaint against Newbeck's girlfriend
accusing her of stealing checks and bank account information from her

husband of victim Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne
outside Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on Thursday
after Leah Cuevas was sentenced to 25 years to life for killing his wife
Just before a Brooklyn woman was sentenced Thursday to 25 years to life in prison for killing and dismembering a neighbor in the summer of 2014
the victim’s husband told her he no longer feels anger toward her
who came from his home of Guyana to attend Leah Cuevas’ sentencing in Riverhead
of second-degree murder in the death of Browne’s wife
in a case that the judge and lead prosecutor said was one of the most gruesome crimes they had encountered in their careers
I’ve never seen a more horrific act,” Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla told Suffolk County Court Judge John J
The judge granted Biancavilla’s request to impose the maximum punishment
Biancavilla told jurors that Cuevas and Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne
had fought over whether Cuevas was truly the landlord of their building and over whether either or both were cheating on their husbands
Prosecutors said the argument ended when Cuevas stabbed Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne 39 times in Cuevas’ Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment on July 5
then cut her into pieces and dumped her body parts in Bay Shore and in Hempstead
Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne’s legs were found near her torso lying in high grass off a parking lot in Bay Shore
Police and forensic scientists identified Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne through tattoos and DNA
on second-degree murder in the death of Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne
Forensic scientists found a portion of the carpet in Cuevas’ apartment was so soaked in blood it had dripped through the carpet padding to the wood floor below
who spoke publicly for the first time Thursday since her arrest
told Toomey she did not kill her upstairs neighbor and friend
“I am not a murderer,” Cuevas said in court when she was given the chance to speak before her sentencing
As Chinelle Latoya Thompson Browne’s husband
relatives and friends sat in the courtroom
ticking off a litany of explanations that she said point to her innocence
“I never took her life,” Cuevas said in her speech
In an interview outside the courthouse after the sentencing
Dale Browne said Cuevas’ rant has not changed his feeling toward her
“I believe she’s been feeding herself lies and those lies have become so enveloping in her being that she has become those lies,” he said
It’s a state of deception that’s going on in her head
Dale Browne said justice was served and he must tend to the welfare of his four young children who have lost their mother
“I pray that she [Cuevas] repents for her own sake and her children’s sake,” he said
“I felt sad because she was the most amazing mother,” Gabrielle said in her letter
as the little girl asked the judge to send Cuevas away to prison for the rest of her life
The third week of April marked another step in the final year for four schools in Italy
brought together through a Comenius project
This penultimate meeting took place in Biancavilla in Sicily
at the foothills of Mount Etna which was still snow-bound
offering a fantastic backdrop to the week's proceedings
The general theme this time centred round the presentations of pre-agreed tasks
including a multilingual dictionary in five languages
St Francis of Victoria - supplied two languages
Another task was the preparation and exchange of traditionally-costumed dolls
Each school had to finalise and present a video of all four songs and dances
featuring students wearing each country's costumes
St Francis School's representatives in Sicily
witnessed the Italians' efforts in the form of a concert attended by the mayor of Biancavilla
An interesting feature during the soirée was a brief address by a representative of each school
Another interesting moment gave the whole group a first-hand experience of a day at school in Biancavilla
sharing ideas and teaching methods with staff and going round classrooms interacting with students
The cultural outings planned out for us throughout the week took us to Syracuse
The friendly atmosphere provided by the hosts was a deciding factor in making this a memorable visit
