Frank Bisceglie started volunteering for the Beargrease and was hooked
“The Beargrease is definitely one of our most favorite parts of the year,” Bisceglie said
but make a week of coming up to the North Shore to volunteer at the Sawbill checkpoint
Bisceglie roped both sets of parents into coming along
pulled off at the overlook in the morning to go fetch our parents before we went to the start of the race on Sunday
and begged her – convinced her to get out of the car at 6:30 for a selfie at the overlook,” he said
and I cried for probably 30 seconds with no words
Bisceglie said Neidecker’s favorite place in the world is Lake Superior
“I just knew it had to be at Sawbill,” he said
“I couldn’t have thought of a better place,” she said

snagging a pie from John Bisceglie at Johnny's Pizza has become a challenge at prime time
while the cheesesteaks are inspiring pilgrimages from across the region
where he’d spent six months training in the fine art of Brooklyn pies
and let your personality take over the shop.”
That may sound easier said than done: Johnny’s only sold three pizzas on its first day in November 2022
But Bisceglie had learned well about the virtues of quality and patience from his mentors. Not just Pinello, but also Nick Carelli of Philomena Santucci’s Square Pizza in Warminster
where Bisceglie first found his love of pizza
the buzz around Johnny’s has grown so loud that it routinely sells up to 175 pies a day
with the time slots for prime weekend evening pickups (between 5 and 6:30 p.m.) already spoken for before noon
I caught a glimpse of what the fuss was about when I recently popped in
stopped in my tracks by a pizza emerging from the oven
The heat-blistered round’s paper-thin crust radiated such a gorgeous sunburst of red sauce that when Bisceglie scattered it with a shaving of Pecorino-Romano and fragrant green plumes of ripped basil to finish
we instantly changed our plans for lunch down the street and decided to stay here
We took our seats in back and found ourselves amid the banter of two avid cheesesteak hunters — one who’d driven 45 minutes from Lansdale
and another who’d traveled half an hour from near West Chester
I realized that Johnny’s is a rare double threat: a notable stop on the region’s hungry tourist’s map for both pizza and steaks
Bisceglie’s pizza game is influenced by both of his mentors in his embrace of thin-crusted New York rounds as well as Philly-style pan pies
Bisceglie understands how caring deeply about the process
from the quality of the toppings to the temperature and stretching of the dough
The hand-crushed whole tomato sauce is balanced but flavorful
and his thin-crust rounds are roasty and dynamic
topped with a light touch of blended fresh and low-moisture mozzarella that adds layered flavors and texture
which come with lemony ricotta and sesame seeded crusts
are a direct homage to Pinello’s Best Pizza
which get two hours of extra aging flavor from a double-proofing — and also speak to his Santucci’s roots
The pizza’s build is technically closer to a Brooklyn grandma
with a relatively thinner crust than Sicilian or Detroit styles
and sporadic dabs of chunky sauce infused with a kitchen sink’s worth of onions and pantry spices
The cast-iron pans are a legacy of regional pizza history: 50-year-old vintage squares from Santucci’s
When these pies emerge from those well-seasoned pans
their bottoms toasty with an olive oil crisp
The most popular topping is cup-and-char pepperoni drizzled with hot honey
“Every time I grab a bottle [of hot honey] I worry: Did I do this right?” says Bisceglie
That motto of careful proportions also applies to Johnny’s cheesesteaks
which are hefty at about 12 ounces of house-cut rib-eye per sandwich
but hardly the overstuffed behemoths that sometimes earn popular praise
The shop’s true success also lies in the details of careful execution
That includes the way Johnny’s griddles its onions and coarse-chopped meat together at the same time
properly seasoning it all with salt and pepper
then carefully incorporating just the right amount of Cooper Sharp cheese
The sesame-seeded roll is also noticeably different
a whole-wheat potato loaf with a well-developed flavor that
toasted in the oven just beforehand for an extra crisp
has enough crust integrity to contain its juicy stuffing
The bread is sourced from an artisan Philly bakery; Bisceglie
There is one secret I was able to pry away: “We strictly cook the meat in butter
just like I make a sirloin for myself at home,” he says
It’s no wonder I couldn’t stop eating this cheesesteak
It’s also no surprise that two years later
those freshly painted white walls have been filled with signatures from Johnny’s customers lavishing praise on the food (and the Eagles
“I wanted it to feel like Johnny’s has been here for a long time
so everyone leaves their mark,” says Bisceglie
who leaves a jar of colorful Sharpies alongside shakers of oregano and pepper flakes

"From field to table' for Mastrototaro Food is not an abstract concept but a real promise the company makes to the consumer
a flourishing land lapped by the waters of the Adriatic Sea
It is precisely between the land and the sea that the preserves of Mastrototaro Food are born
products that symbolise the authenticity of Apulia and the genuine flavour of tradition
The company has a long entrepreneurial history behind it
which began in 1956 and runs in the agricultural sector
Mastrototaro Food decided to further enhance the raw materials produced on the company's land by transforming them into excellent agro-food preserves
Three decades of expertise in the sector did the rest
who with skill and ingenuity run the company
which is certified organic and one of the few in Italy to organise production from scratch
The cicerone of our journey through the delicacies of the Mastrototaro brand is Mauro
amidst vast expanses of olive groves and vast fields of cultivated land
tells us about the great effort made to offer the consumer a product in which quality is the undisputed queen
The cultivation of vegetables according to the ancestral customs of our ancestors and love for nature are the winning elements of the company
which harvests the raw materials by hand and transforms them into preserves in just a few hours
This makes it possible to preserve the organoleptic qualities of the vegetables
which unleash their goodness and taste delicious just by looking at them
olives and courgettes are the raw materials that go well with the extra virgin olive oil produced by the company
we seem to be looking at a slightly larger version of grandma's classic larder
A triumph of colours is what presents itself to our eyes as visitors
where we gaze in amazement at the different nuances of the jarred vegetables
Mauro explains the company's precise philosophy: to recover the ancient recipes for preserves in order to make them known beyond the borders of Apulia
And so we discover the 'Pric 'o prac'
or the biscegliese antipasto with artichokes
We cannot fail to mention the exquisite artichokes available in several versions
'della mamma' or 'pugliese' style: all are exceptional with their tender heart dipped in the golden yellow of extra virgin olive oil
like the refined lentil and sun-dried tomato mousse that combines the nutritional properties of the legume with the lively flavour of sun-dried tomatoes.
Mastrototaro Food's list of products is a long one
A team that wins because it plays well in the field
That field that Mastrototaro Food brings in jars directly to our

Weston residents are “clamoring for pickleball courts,” said Parks and Recreation Director Dave Ungar
so the department plans to open three courts at Bisceglie-Scribner park this summer
assuming approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission
The commission’s task will be to certify that a recreational sport is an appropriate use of a recreational park
The Board of Selectmen voted to refer the plan to P&Z after hearing from Mr
Parks and Recreation Commission chair Elizabeth Pocsik
and commission member Douglas Ries on January 18
The plan is to install the three courts on one-fifth of an acre just off the Bisceglie parking lot along the walkway that leads to the pond
Ungar said there is actually room for four courts
but the idea is to start with three and maybe expand later
the extra space might be used for a half basketball court
including next to the Onion Barn (an idea that failed to launch) and an area behind the Board of Education building
The latter is sort of in limbo as decisions pend about a possible reconfiguration of Town and school district facilities
(Those decisions are likely to pend for quite some time.)
Neither alternative could hold more than two courts
but both would have been easier and cheaper to build on
Work at the park will involve removing some trees
Ungar said the project will cost about $75,000 more than the Onion Barn location would have
$100,000 was approved for pickleball in the town’s allocation of ARPA grants
and the Parks and Recreation Enterprise Fund will cover the rest of total costs
which come to about $250,000 for three courts
The Enterprise Fund consists of revenue generated by Parks and Recreation programs
He said the fund was used last year to pay for pond repairs and is healthy
and added that costs could reduce if the Department of Public Works is able to perform some of the work
is to begin construction this winter to make that summer opening
The pair didn’t find much space at their previous loan stops
so let’s hope that it works out a bit better this time around
He’s currently the number one for the Italy U20s and should be a Serie A-level custodian within a half decade or so
it was perhaps a bit optimistic to expect him to compete for the starting role with Cosenza in Serie B this year; the Lupi are 14th and just outside the drop zone
but this is still the second-tier of calcio
It was always a big ask for a 19-year-old to leapfrog a couple of experienced players in Umberto Saracco and Pietro Perina
and nobody should be shocked that Cerofolini wasn’t quite able to do so
and should easily be first choice for the Nerrazzuri Stellati
who just lost starter Diamante Crispino to Siracusa
is a less-heralded prospect but still a solid performer at youth level for the Viola
More of an old-fashioned fullback than a wingback
he never quite fit into manager Alessandro dal Canto’s 3-5-2 formation; he hasn’t logged a minute all year
With fellow youngsters Leonardo Longo and Fabio Delvino as competition on the right flank of Rodolfo Vanoli’s 4-3-3
he should have a fighting chance to earn some playing time
although Longo seems pretty well entrenched as the starter
it should help him to at least have a chance to win a berth in his first assignment outside of the Viola system
Located on the Adriatic coast in the Barletta-Andria-Trani region of Apulia
the club has bounced around the amateur leagues and Serie D for most of its history; the past two years in Serie C represent its zenith
as the Nerrazzurri Stellati (who don’t even have their own website) currently sit 17th of 20 teams in Serie C-C with 15 points from 21 matches
The greatest concern is certainly the attack
which has garnered a genuinely embarrassing 9 goals; the defense
is alright but nothing to write home about
Supply-chain attacks have dented the global economy over the past year
Interos CEO Jennifer Bisceglie saw it coming – 16 years ago
And now some of the biggest names in cybersecurity are rewarding her startup with $100 million in funding.
Bisceglie's supply-chain security company Interos
which uses artificial intelligence to monitor physical and cyber threats
is pulling in a $100 million Series C round on Thursday
taking it to a valuation of over $1 billion
and its total prior funding was $25.8 million.
Supply-chain risk has always been a problem
Many didn't even know if they were affected.
Interos' cloud-based platform uses AI to create a real-time global map capable of zooming in on any single supplier
with analysis of how your company connects to it
Its phones are ringing off the hook – it says inbound calls are up 500% this year
Revenue is "on the road to $50 million this year and $100 million next year," the company says.
Bisceglie is not surprised by the huge spike in interest
I always knew it was a technology that was needed
The last 18 months have put supply-chain risk at the forefront of the national and global consciousness
The world didn't realize how big the supply-chain risk problem actually is
Some of the biggest names in cybersecurity are singing the praises of Bisceglie and Interos
a dean of cybersecurity funding with venerable VC Kleiner Perkins
is also continuing his investment of Interos in the round
the CEO of Mandiant and former CEO of FireEye is on its advisory board
the chief information security officer of Google Cloud
a senior vice president at F5 Security and former CEO and co-founder of Shape Security.
"I came to her," DeWalt told Insider of approaching Bisceglie to lead the funding round
He believes in Interos' mission of shining a light on supply-chain risk
"Lack of visibility is the root of all evil when it comes to supply-chain risk
Interos was the only company we saw that addresses that gap
The analysts Markets and Markets show the market for supply-chain management was $23.2 billion in 2020
The analyst Pitchbook found that venture investment in supply chain tech startups totaled $7.7 billion in Q1 2021
Bisceglie gathered vast expertise on supply-chain security
pulling in 40 consultants who could help clients and "building an incredible intellectual property of understanding exactly what the supply chain risks are globally." She worked with companies including Manhattan Associates American Eagle Outfitters.
That expertise led to her testifying before Congress five times in the past
but DeWalt believes Bisceglie will be even more in demand in the future
"I think she could be the spokesperson to the world on supply-chain risk," he said.

Jennifer Bisceglie, founder and CEO of Interos, joins Aileen Black on Leaders and Legends to explain how she turned a small startup into a dynamic supply chair risk management and operational resilience company
Interos has disrupted the traditional supply chain risk management discipline
bringing 24/7 real-time visibility into every supplier at every tier and at every location around the world
It gives companies the tools they need to detect and respond to supply chain crises before they happen
Bisceglie described Interos as a “see everything
operational resilience company” that is now valued at more than $1 billion
Find out what steps agencies should take to better protect OT systems in our latest Executive Briefing
she was able to set a clear vision for what she wanted to accomplish at Interos
She then “hired a great team” to carry that vision out
Bisceglie said one of the keys to effective leadership is to give your teams all the resources they need to do their jobs and then get out of their way
She describes her leadership style as “up and out
not down and in,” and now focuses most of her attention on moving the company forward
Bisceglie also believes that culture is key to a successful strategy execution
She interviewed the first 150 people hired at Interos because she wanted to be sure they shared her vision on the organization’s culture
“It is important that we have a culture that values mutual respect
My door is always open and you need to value everyone’s opinion,” she said
Bisceglie’s leadership style was also influenced by one of her favorite books: Sharon Hadary’s How Women Lead: The 8 Essential Strategies Successful Women Know
She said the book taught her how to use information to drive results and how to make that information your ally
That lesson stuck with her when she went to Sand Hill road in the Silicon Valley to meet with potential investors for her company
She learned that “first you need to be a ‘subject expert.’ Second
you need to be sure you are solving a problem
you need to have ‘grit and be scrappy.’ The fourth is you need to know your numbers and the story and the results that can be driven
Sign up for our daily newsletter so you never miss a beat on all things federal
Bisceglie also shared her thoughts on what government can do to build a more resilient supply chain
“Get rid of uncertainty and mandate transparency in the supply chain
This will allow people to visually see the supply chain
the risks and the ethical issues associated with it
This will allow us to de-risk our supply chains and allow people to make choices on where and what they consume,” she said
Bisceglie also offered some advice to the next generation future women entrepreneurs
TOMS RIVER - The District 1 Board of Fire Commissioners has hired a law firm to investigate a female worker's complaint against Brian Kubiel
the district's administrator who also is president of the Township Council.
The fire commissioners' action prompted Kubiel to sue the commissioners
claiming they acted illegally when they hired the law firm of LaCorte
Varady & Kinsella to investigate a complaint lodged against him by Monica Bisceglie
the fire district's long-time human resources coordinator

Purpuri Shoes closes: Purpuri Shoes in Toms River closes after a century
Bisceglie's complaint involved Kubiel's "workplace conduct," but no further details have been disclosed
Bisceglie could not be reached for comment
Kubiel's lawsuit claims the fire commissioners violated the state's Open Public Meetings Act by not properly stating the purpose of a Sept
19 executive session at which Kubiel's job status was discussed
also says Kubiel was not given notice that Bisceglie's complaint would be discussed at the Sept
the commissioners voted to hire a law firm to investigate the allegations
The suit claims the commissioners then altered the agenda for their public meeting after the fact
changing the reasons for going into executive session from "personnel" to "litigation
negotiations and the attorney-client privilege."
"The Fire District apparently tried to 'cover its tracks' by inappropriately rewriting history — attempting to alter the agenda-based grounds for the executive session discussion," the lawsuit states

as one of five District 1 fire commissioners

Ambrosio has a clear conflict of interest since Kubiel is his employer

The lawsuit asks a Superior Court judge to void the board of commissioners' decision to hire the law firm to investigate Kubiel's conduct
wants the court to prevent Ambrosio from participating in actions involving Kubiel
and also asks a judge to stop the fire district from discussing Kubiel's employment without notifying him in advance
the Union-based lawyer representing Ambrosio and the other fire commissioners
termed Kubiel's lawsuit "a big waste of time."

said his firm has been hired to investigate Bisceglie's complaint as well as defend the fire commissioners against Kubiel's lawsuit
"My position on the lawsuit is that that it's really moot," Varady said
There's been no adverse employment action at all."
Varady said the fire commissioners did not discuss the terms of Kubiel's employment in the Sept
and instead only talked about hiring his firm to investigate Bisceglie's complaint against Kubiel

But a letter sent last September to the fire commissioners by Kubiel's lawyer
Joseph Youssouf accuses the commissioners of "attempting to improperly terminate" Kubiel's employment by indicating that his contract with the district might not be automatically renewed
Youssouf said that Kubiel's contract with the district is renewed automatically unless the commissioners give him notice that they plan to terminate it within a specific timeframe
Kubiel said he could not comment on the lawsuit
which has become a hot topic of conversation in Toms River's political circles
He's being represented by the law firm of Plosia Cohen

recently became president of the Toms River Republican Club after previous GOP leader Robert DiBiase resigned to become executive director of the Toms River Municipal Utilities Authority
Ambrosio also said he could not comment on the lawsuit or Bisceglie's complaint about Kubiel
He referred all questions to the fire commissioners' lawyer
The lawsuit claims Ambrosio should have recused himself from the vote to hire the law firm because he has a clear conflict of interest
Kubiel notes in the lawsuit that he recuses himself from any action or executive session discussion taken by the council regarding Ambrosio
Varady said that Kubiel had never previously raised the conflict of interest issue when Ambrosio voted on Kubiel's previous contracts

Kubiel said he had been informed before the meeting that his job status was going to be discussed

and Bisceglie coordinated efforts to take the car to community events to spread awareness about the battle against breast cancer
He also raised money for the cause through the sale of T-shirts
The “Real Men Wear Pink” ambassadors are community leaders who are stepping up and getting involved in the fight against breast cancer
said Chicago-area campaign manager Kendall Schaffner
Other local ambassadors are Chicago Blackhawks player Chad Krys; former NFL player and “The Bachelorette” contestant Clay Harbor; John H
president and general manager of ABC 7 Chicago; Fred from the “Fred and Angi” show on 103.5 FM radio; and Michael Barkin
co-founder of the clothing company Stitch & Heart
The latter three also are co-chairs of the initiative
The men commit to raising at least $2,500 each for the cause and wearing pink every day in October
that means wearing his pink badge on the job — all Elgin police officers have optional pink badge this month — and breast cancer T-shirts on his days off
The top four local ambassadors already have raised more than $10,000 each as part of about $108,000 altogether as of Friday
“Every dollar that is raised will help save lives,” Schaffner said
The money raised goes to early detection and prevention
as well as to American Cancer Society initiatives like free rides to treatment and free or discounted lodging for out-of-town patients
About 1 in 8 women, or 13%, will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime and 1 in 39, or 3%, will die from it, according to the American Cancer Society
An estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women and about 2,670 cases will be diagnosed in men this year
His mother-in-law is a breast cancer survivor — he will never forget his wife-to-be breaking the news to him when they were in college — as are other extended family members
One special moment last year was meeting women affected by breast cancer at the Taylor Family YMCA in Elgin
“Everybody goes through hard times in their life
and every disease is impactful for everybody,” he said
“To have a group of people who have been survivors
to see how emotional they were and us bringing awareness to it ..

Court Officer Michael Bisceglie of state Supreme Court
.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Frank Donnelly | fdonnelly@siadvance.comSTATEN ISLAND
-- When state Supreme Court Officer Michael Bisceglie recently trained to be an emergency medical technician
he expected he might have to use that knowledge if an emergency arose in court one day
found that out on Tuesday -- and saved a life in the process -- when he administered CPR to revive a prisoner who went into cardiac arrest at a rest stop on the New York State Thruway in Ulster County
was stricken while being transported back to Coxsackie Correctional Facility after spending some time in the hospital
Bisceglie and three colleagues from state Supreme Court
Salvatore Didonna and Officer Elaine Bacci - were returning to Staten Island after a Law Day ceremony and awards presentation at the state Court of Appeals in Albany
a spokesman for the state Office of Court Administration
who is assigned to Manhattan state Supreme Court
Bacci had received a Community Service award for her work aiding victims of Hurricane Maria
devastated Puerto Rico and several Caribbean nations
for lunch at a Thruway rest stop in Ulster County
Two state Corrections officers immediately flagged them down and said a 40-year-old prisoner they were transporting in a van had gone into cardiac arrest
the Corrections officers couldn't open the van without additional law enforcement aid
The Staten Island contingent rushed in to help
who just completed EMT training through the court system last July
a court officer himself for less than two years
tried to keep the man alert and stabilized
But the prisoner stopped breathing and slipped into unconsciousness; Bisceglie continued CPR
had told Bacci to call 911 while Didonna and Sanders had secured the area
who previously worked for FedEx for 25 years
said he had never performed CPR on another person and was admittedly nervous
"You want to make sure you're doing the right thing," he said
The ambulance then rushed the prisoner to Kingston Hospital for further treatment
Bisceglie shrugged off any notion of being a hero
"I'm happy it all worked out," he said modestly
Everyone's saying you did a great thing."

“Is it possible that we are unable to build a beautiful contemporary city?” That is the question that architect Mario Cucinella has responded to with Seimilano
the new class-A district with 1,000 apartments now under construction in Bisceglie
and located just 12 metro stops from Milan’s Piazza Duomo
The project dates back to well before the pandemic
and yet it seems to have anticipated the growing need for terraces and attractive outdoor spaces organised for people to socialise in safely
the complex extends along a central pedestrian boulevard
at one end of which is a small tertiary area
It features a series of small tower blocks (all different) that add interest and help people get their bearings
will also benefit from the 16-hectare municipal park – larger than Parco Sempione – being laid out right next to the new development
This is the work of French designer Michel Desvigne
who was inspired by Lombardy’s typical farming landscape
with fields bordered by rows of trees and irrigation streams
The Seimilano project is an initiative of Borio Mangiarotti and Värde Partners
with an investment of over 250 million euros and due for completion in 2022
It is aimed mainly at young couples: it has plenty of sport and play areas
There will also be a crèche and a nursery school
Prices are very affordable for Milan: around 3,300 euros per square metre for private and 2,900 euros for subsidised housing
