– The USA Hockey jerseys were a dead giveaway
Or perhaps it was the photos and paintings
hockey pucks and sticks that let people know something special was going on at the Hilton in Hasbrouck Heights
the 1980 United States men’s hockey team – the group known for “The Miracle on Ice” – reunited for a public signing
something that previously hadn’t happened for many
“It’s been like a reunion the last three months,” said former forward Mark Wells
“We never imagined people would be talking about 1980
It was something we didn’t think would last.”
The 1980 gold-medal winning team was on hand as part of That 80’s Show run by MAB Celebrity-Services
The show featured the hockey team and the 1986 New York Mets World Series champions
More than 100 people bought tickets for just Eruzione’s signature
first assembled the group for a public signing at November’s Chicago Sun-Times show
Another signing followed in Minnesota (the 1980 team’s Olympic training facility was located there) and now in New Jersey
With the Winter Olympics around the corner
it seemed like the perfect moment to bring together the team that united a country 34 years ago
“No one has ever really done it before because it takes a lot to pull it off,” Bracigliano said
“It takes a lot of patience and a really good team behind you to put something like this together.”
Bracigliano has six full-time employees and others who help at signings
Putting together the signing required coordination
scheduling and money – bringing in nearly 20 players from across the country
All this after the show had to be re-scheduled because of a snowstorm that hit the northeast in mid-December
“They like to get together,” Bracigliano said
including some born long after those 1980s Olympics
a group of college players who banded together to beat the powerhouse USSR in the medal round
a thrilling 4-3 victory that remains one of the top athletic moments in United States history
never had a lead against the USSR until Eruzione scored with 10 minutes left in the game
Goalie Jim Craig managed to keep the Soviet team from scoring again
announcer Al Michaels delivered one of sport’s most famous calls
team went on to beat Finland in the gold medal game
but it’s that sensational win against the Soviet Union that resonates
“At the time we were just a bunch of kids playing hockey,” Wells said
“We didn’t know it was going to be like this
We didn’t know that 34 years later people would still want to get our autographs
While fans have held onto numerous items celebrating the team
Wells doesn’t have much from those Olympics
only a 4×6 photo from the historic game
He gave his gloves and other equipment to his childhood best friend
and sold his gold medal to pay for treatment from a back injury
Fans who gathered in the hotel’s conference center likely have more “Miracle on Ice” memorabilia than Wells has in his own collection
One man brought a replica Olympic torch for Eruzione to sign
Others had jerseys that read “Miracle” with the No
Mark Kannell got a one-of-a-kind item signed by all 16 former hockey players who were at the show
a scene he painted depicting the 1980 team
The 25-year-old had already spent 40 to 50 hours working on the painting
but he still had a little bit more work to do
he couldn’t miss the chance to get it signed
“It’s one of the greatest moments in sports history,” Kannell
but something like this can appeal to anyone.”
Kannell brought his painting up to Phil Verchota
who took a moment to appreciate the artwork before adding his signature
but not every fan waited several hours at the Hilton for signatures
Chris Connelly simply wanted to get his photo taken with the players
He and his friend Lee Carruthers drove from Wantagh
Connelly has taken more than 3,000 photos with various celebrities
“He’s a big fan,” Carruthers said of her friend
“When else are you going to get a chance to see them all like this in one place
It helped that Ken Morrow was also signing at the show
Both Connelly and Carruthers are big New York Islanders fans
Morrow is a Hall of Fame player who won four Stanley Cups with the Islanders
Carruthers overheard Morrow describing how he displays his keepsakes
He has the Olympic gold medal surrounded by the four Stanley Cups with two on each side
“I got a picture with him,” Carruthers said with a smile
“These guys are so down-to-Earth and so nice

Fortune is one of the most wanted men in English football after he hit top gear with five goals in an 18-game loan spell at West Brom to prove he could cut it at the highest level.
His displays for the relegated side caught the attentions of Birmingham, Wolves, Fulham, Hull City and West Brom, who wanted to exercise a £1.5million release clause on his loan agreement to keep him at the Hawthorns.
But it's the lure of linking up with his former Baggies boss Tony Mowbray and help Celtic through the hazardous qualifying stages of the Champions League that has put the Parkhead side in the driving seat for the £3.4m-rated AS Nancy hitman.
And while it seems like a big outlay for Celtic to have to make for Fortune, Nancy keeper Gennaro Bracigliano believes that money could be well spent both on the pitch and the car park at their Lennoxtown training base.
Bracigliano said: "The money our club is asking for Fortune is more than fair. In fact, I actually think we're giving him away as a bargain. Any side who gets Marc will be getting the finished product. He's not a young boy with potential, he's a 27-year-old striker who has played at the highest level and proved he could survive.
"He went to England in January and showed what we already knew - that he could play in any league in the world.
"He would be comfortable in Spanish football where he would get space to exploit defences, he can mix it when the game gets physical in England and he can break down the defences in Italy.
"That's why he could be a great player in Scottish football. You don't play for just six months at a side that has been relegated and have five or six top sides chasing you unless you've got something and Marc has - he's a special talent.
But the biggest thing I can say about him is he will score goals at Celtic and a lot of them.
"In the penalty box he is natural finisher and I would say right now he will hit 25 goals for them next season. With the chances they create he will make the difference for them.
"He will also do it for them in the Champions League and that could be important because there is a lot of money on offer for Celtic to reach the group stage.
"He's worth four million euros because he will make them more if he scores the goal that gets them into the group."
Fortune's career has been on the rise ever since he began at lowly French side AS Angouleme 10 years ago.
Lille poached him from Angouleme and farmed him out to Rouen for a season. He then starred for Paul Le Guen's former side Brest before moving to Dutch side FC Utrecht.
He helped Nancy clinch fourth spot in 2008 - missing out on Champions League football on the final day to Marseille - and is very much in the mould of onetime Rangers striker JeanClaude Darcheville.
Pacy, strong and skilful, he would add a different facet to a Celtic attack that struggled with the poor form of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Georgios Samaras.
And if he can't make his money by helping Celtic conquer Europe, then he could always turn his hand to creating the perfect pimped-up ride for any Porscheloving footballer at Parkhead.
Hailing from the same French colony as Darcheville and Chelsea superstar Florent Malouda - Guiana - he also shares the same obsession with flash motors as the one-time Ibrox star.
Bracigliano added: "There will be no problem with him settling into the dressing room. He's a super guy. He's friendly and outgoing but also a man you can trust with your biggest secret.
"He lives his life to the full and has an obsession with cars. He's an expert in fixing motors and making them look special.
"If he wasn't a footballer I'm sure he'd be heavily involved with constructing top-end spec cars. It doesn't matter if you want a classic car or a sports car he could make it for you.
"A lot of footballers like cars but I've never met anyone with quite the same love of them as Marc."
Team-mate Pascal Berenguer, who netted in Nancy's 1-0 UEFA Cup win over Motherwell last season, added: "I'd say Marc is very much in the same mould as Darcheville.
"He's strong and is even quicker than Darcheville. I know Jean-Claude had a nickname during his time at Rennes for how fast he was - La Bombe - but Marc is even faster.
"Inside the box he is explosive. He can outstrip defenders with his pace and he likes to drag them all over the pitch. Off the pitch he's a real character. I've never seen him without a smile on his face and I've never been able to stop smiling when he's been in my company.
"I'm fascinated by his love of cars and we used to have a game at Nancy where we'd say, 'What car will Marc come into training in this week?'
"Every few months there was a new car. If he moves to Celtic and scores the amount of goals I'd expect in that league he'll be able to open a garage!"
NorthEast United FC has announced that they have reached an agreement with French player Gennaro Bracigliano for the second edition of the Indian Super League
who played for Chennaiyin FC in the first season of the ISL
will don the role of player-cum-goalkeeping-coach replacing Tony Warner who had his contract terminated two days back
“I am very excited to come back to the ISL and to India. I am looking forward to discovering NorthEast United FC. I already know its fans and the fact that they were one of the very best fanbases last year.” said Gennaro after inking the contract, according to the club’s official facebook page.
Bracigliano rose through the youth ranks at French club Nancy and went on to make almost 200 appearances for the senior team
After establishing himself as first choice in the 2003-04 season
he helped the club win promotion to the top tier of French football in the next season as Nancy emerged Ligue 2 champions
His excellent performances during the season earned him the Ligue 2 goalkeeper of the year award and he went on to enjoy further success with Nancy winning the 2005/06 League Cup
After leaving Nancy at the end of the 2010/11 season
he moved to Marseille where he failed to start a single game in his three years at the club
The goalkeeper who featured nine times for Chennaiyin in the inaugural season of the ISL
opened up on the decision to shift base this time around and stated that he was looking forward to working with NorthEast United’s goalkeeper’s Rehenesh and Ralte Lalthuammawia
“This year I come to ?NEUFC to aim for the title
I hope that I will do some good work Rehenesh and Lalthuammawia
I am confident that together we will play an essential role in the success of NEUFC this season,” Bracigliano said
