Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A bi-national law enforcement initiative set its sights on five new targets-- including the first American citizen in the campaign's history
The fourth iteration of the "Se BuscaInformación" tip line initiative
which partners up with law enforcement agencies from the U.S
and Mexico seeking suspects hiding in El Paso or Ciudad Juarez
announced five additions to its most wanted list-- including its first U.S
citizen Alberto Mariscal-- during a press conference on Thursday
50-year-old Alberto Mariscal has two arrest warrants
one from Dallas and the other from Houston
the local "Most Wanted" campaign by Crime Stoppers of El Paso and the El Paso Police Department
Law enforcement believes Mariscal could be living in El Paso or Juarez
Border Patrol officials said the bi-national tip-line initiative has resulted in 13 apprehensions
attributing the result to the community's frustration over a rise in crime
Data suggests that most tips come from phone numbers registered in Juarez
People with information about these suspects are encouraged to call the El Paso Sector U.S
Border Patrol call center via phone or WhatsApp at 915-314-8194
The tip line is reportedly open 24/7 and is available in English and Spanish

There is a running gag among the family of Nahomi Enrico that she can do anything — literally anything — as long as someone asks her nicely
She is a DIY virtuosa who can build a kitchen cabinet or mount a flat-screen TV to the living room wall
She can create her own Christmas ornaments
And in case she is ever challenged to a duel
ENTERTAINMENT: Our guide to Oktoberfest celebrations at craft breweries in North Jersey
But she may have surprised even herself in July 2022
when she parlayed a personal health struggle into a small business that makes people feel good while raising money for an under-the-radar charity in Norwood
“I wanted to do something to give back,” says Enrico
“I feel very blessed to have received the kindness that I got throughout the most difficult part of my life.”
is a home workshop that makes accessories and casual apparel
the “Make Mistakes Tee” and the “Positive Vibes Tee” have uplifting messages printed on them
“The goal is comfort and encouragement,” Enrico says
She designs the images and letters for the clothing
and after buying blank tops from a wholesaler
she screen-prints and packages them and sends them to her clients
adding that each shipment contains a handwritten thank-you note
Here are six more things you should know about the multi-talented Enrico
Enrico says her family hails from Santo Domingo
She benefited from what she calls a “comfortable” upbringing before her parents — her mother is an esthetician
and her father an HVAC contractor — immigrated to the Bronx
Her family eventually settled in the north end of Paterson
Enrico is a 2006 graduate of International High School
a satellite school of the K-12 district on the opposite side of the city
It was there that she joined a fencing team
She says she was “academically driven” and focused on attaining a scholarship to take pressure off her family to pay for college
where she studied animal science and ecology
Enrico encountered mountain lions when she worked as a zoologist at Van Saun County Park in Paramus
were the apex predators of the 130-acre recreation center
She says she also tended to much lesser species
including hedgehogs and Madagascar hissing cockroaches
“Being outside and animals are just like — they’re just like my center point,” she says
She beat cancer.Enrico was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in December 2020
She says she found a lump under her right arm a month earlier and initially thought the soreness was due to weightlifting
set up a gym in their home garage during the pandemic
She then underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery at John Theurer Cancer Center
which is part of Hackensack University Medical Center
She still visits the hospital for frequent checkups but says she is well on her way to a full recovery
Busca La Luz is a Spanish term that means “look for the light,” Enrico says
It was a self-affirmation that kept her motivated as she faced month after month of grueling chemotherapy
“Find your source of light to orient you to where you need to go.”
That is why the animal lover chose a moth as the logo for her business
The insect is a delicate creature attracted to light
she was a cancer patient in search of hope
Enrico says she donates 10% of each sale to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation
Her clients can pledge an extra $5 to the nonprofit when they check out of her online store
That generosity resulted in a giving spree of thousands of dollars in contributions to the charity
Enrico says her business was on hiatus this year
but that her clients can still place orders
She says the workshop will be up and running at full steam very soon
triple-negative breast cancer accounts for up to 15% of all breast cancers
It is more common in women younger than 40 years old
who are Black or who have a certain gene mutation
A side hustle of making acrylic Christmas ornaments in December 2021 gave Enrico enough confidence
to know that her creations were marketable
She halfway jokes that she is a lifelong student of the “For Dummies” book series and YouTube — two bottomless fonts of knowledge
And she says she always encourages her daughters
10-year-old Olivia and 7-year-old Penelope
Because if there is a “quirk in the road,” she adds

Azimut Investments’ office in Chile is now ready for the next phase
Following the strengthening of operations with the hiring of an Institutional Sales professional
the focus is now on inorganic growth opportunities
reveals that they are looking for partners with a foothold in the wealth management business
either for an acquisition or a joint venture
Azimut has chosen to establish and grow in its markets mainly through mergers and acquisitions,” the executive explains in an interview with Funds Society
adding that only the Chile office – which also covers Argentina
and Uruguay – focuses solely on distributing the funds of the Italian asset manager
Varela’s attention was focused on making internal changes to align the firm with Azimut’s global and
the priority is finding a company involved in the Chilean wealth management business
a segment that has seen significant growth in recent years
“My main focus for the rest of the year and the first months of next year
because it is a priority for the Chile office
is to seek some form of partnership with a local player,” says the CEO
describing his growth plans as “ambitious.” This union
could be done through a minority or majority acquisition
The goal is to acquire more than 51% of the firm
allowing them to gain control and consolidate assets for the holding company
They plan to offer this partner a six- or seven-year plan – no more than ten
Varela stresses – to gradually increase participation
ideally ending with some form of cash-out for the partners
Varela emphasizes that they do not intend to “empty” the firm they choose
but rather that the original partners will continue running the business with Azimut’s support
One segment they are closely watching for this purpose is independent advisory firms and multi-family offices
“Multi-family offices are a very interesting segment,” he points out
an international partnership of Azimut’s scale could take them to the next level
the executive highlights the potential for Azimut’s acquisition to complement the operations of wealth management companies
providing “the full backing of Azimut.” This includes the capabilities of an international group involved in various businesses
and discretionary portfolio management in Luxembourg
Since Varela took the helm of Azimut Investments’ Chilean branch in June 2022
his primary focus has been on adjusting operations and strengthening the foundation for growth in the Andean country
In addition to deepening their relationship with HMC Capital – a distributor of vehicles with whom they have an agreement – the firm worked on improving the internal functioning of the subsidiary
and enhancing technological platforms and infrastructure
This process is concluding with a key milestone: the hiring of Cristián Cerda
where he worked as a local fixed income trader
and he holds a master’s degree in Economic Analysis from the University of Chile
is to have “someone much more involved in the field
the CEO’s direction is clear: “We are now in a position to say that we are entering a more aggressive expansion phase,” with a focus on asset gathering
This effort coincides with a positive moment for Azimut overall
the international group surpassed $100 billion in assets under management and is projected to achieve its highest net profits in its 32-year history this year
aligning many things with international standards
we’ve added Cristián,” the CEO notes
Another tailwind for Azimut in Chile is the strong performance of their fixed income funds
an asset class that has become much more popular since interest rates increased
This has resulted in various vehicles outperforming their peers
their flagship subordinated investment-grade debt fund
“We feel that we are a fixed income powerhouse
We’ve had these returns that have accompanied us,” Varela comments
adding that this strong performance has coincided with increased client demand
While investors who decided to lengthen their durations when international central banks reached their interest rate peaks saw disappointing results in the first half of the year
and there is indeed consensus,” he explains
so “it makes a bit more sense to start lengthening those durations.”
The increased interest has inspired a roadshow that the firm organized with Nicolò Bocchin
Azimut’s Head of Fixed Income and portfolio manager
whom Varela describes as a “rockstar” of the Italian parent company
where Bocchin will meet with institutional investors
“With the strong performance of our fixed income funds and the positioning we can showcase
it makes sense to close the year with his visit
as he is the person everyone wants to meet and listen to,” says the CEO

Argentine riot police fired water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters who threw stones and Molotov cocktails outside Congress on Wednesday
The protests come as Argentina’s Senate began voting on a state overhaul and tax bills proposed by President Javier Milei in the most serious test to date of the libertarian leader’s vision of governance and change
Protestors and police clashed outside Argentina’s Congress on Wednesday
Police used water cannon to disperse the protesters
Having hitched his political fortunes to the goal of cutting down Argentina’s bloated state
Milei hailed the vote as a “triumph” and “the first step toward the recovery of our greatness.”
In a further boost to Milei’s agenda Thursday
data released by the government statistics agency showed Argentina’s monthly inflation rate halving to 4.2% in May
Argentine sovereign bond yields jumped 3.5% on the news
and its country-risk index dropped more than 6% when markets opened
dipped to 1,220 for a dollar on the black market
narrowing the gap between the official and informal exchange rates
Milei delayed his flight to Italy until the Senate approval then jetted off
The right-wing economist is the only leader since Argentina’s return to democracy in 1983 not to pass a law within his first six months as president
A defeat would have pitched his government into crisis
“Milei has avoided falling off the cliff,” said Lucas Romero
The bills are a diverse array of measures:
The most divisive article declares a state of emergency in Argentina for one year and grants the president new powers in matters of energy
taxation and other sectors until the end of his term in 2027
Villarruel again broke a 35-35 tie with her vote
The government will privatize several state companies
including Buenos Aires water and waste management company AySA
national road safety agency Corredores Viales
power provider Energía Argentina and airport service provider Intercargo
central to Milei’s ambitions to lure foreign capital
would give lucrative tax breaks and other perks to foreign companies investing $200 million or more
They include exemptions from import tariffs and export duties for three years and preferable tax treatment for 30 years
Critics warn the measures will hurt local industry
Changes to the labor market would make it easier for employers to fire workers by extending trial periods that allow dismissals without cause

becoming the first Canadian woman ever to reach the last sixteen in singles at the tennis event by defeating Cristina Busca of Spain in straight sets
Bianca Andreescu will not be joining her in the last sixteen

It was a tricky battle for the Canadian No

it was Fernandez holding her nerve to claim a 7-6(4)
Serve was anything but sacred in the match
as both women won less than half the points on their own serve and were broken at least five times each
Fernandez was still the stronger on return
creating 14 break points and converting seven
The opening set was a series of momentum swings
It seemed like Busca was getting off to the stronger start when she broke Fernandez in the opening game
only for the Canadian to respond with four straight games of her own to get back on serve and then go up a break

Her lead was short-lived as Busca managed to claw back the break and level the set at 4-4
Then a sloppy game at 5-5 from Fernandez set up the Spaniard to serve for the set
but again the momentum flipped and the Canadian was able to break to send the set to a tiebreak
Hot off the critical break in the 12th game
Fernandez kept rolling into the breaker where she quickly raced ahead 4-0

A strong return game was key for Fernandez as she still struggled to find a rhythm on serve and was broken back twice
including when she served for the match at 5-2
But she had a clean read on her opponent’s serve and was able to break to book her spot in the third round

Fernandez will have to beat three-time major champion Angelique Kerber
to reach the quarter-finals of the Olympics since 1908
In round one, Bianca Andreescu showed encouraging signs that she was finding her highest gear as she cruised past Clara Tauson
Donna Vekic of Croatia proved too much of a challenge for the former US Open champion
there were breaks of serve aplenty and openings existed for the Canadian
but she struggled to hold her serve throughout the match and was beaten 6-3

11 of the 19 games in the match were breaks
with the Croatian converting seven of her 13 break point chances
The Canadian did not do herself many favours

she was unable to consolidate as the Croat broke back immediately
The momentum completely flipped with that break as the Wimbledon semifinalist quickly seized control of the opening set

Things went from bad to worse for Andreescu early in the second set as

The National Endowment for Humanities awarded La Salle University a grant to fund a humanities-focused bridge program.
The Spotlight on Humanities in Higher Education grant will support the Access Language Through Academics (ALTA) program
an initiative through the Bilingual Undergraduate Studies for Collegiate Advancement (BUSCA) program at La Salle
ALTA will serve as a 15-week college-readiness program for Spanish-speaking students who are seeking entry to La Salle’s BUSCA program and who need support enhancing their English proficiency prior to entering the University.
The NEH grant supports “smaller humanities projects at small- to medium-sized two- and four-year higher education institutions that benefit underserved populations.” A total of 30 spotlight grants were awarded this year
“BUSCA’s mission is to serve the Hispanic community and to give them the English proficiency they need to make them bilingual professionals,” said Woods
The BUSCA program is a four-semester associate of arts degree program at La Salle University
Bilingual students are supported by faculty and staff in developing their foundational knowledge
Classes are offered at night and BUSCA graduates can transfer their credits toward a bachelor’s degree at La Salle.
Woods said ALTA came to be as a means of supporting Spanish-speaking students who need additional assistance prior to entering La Salle and the BUSCA program
ALTA is a 15-week program that will strengthen students’ English language skills and prepare them to enter BUSCA
all students can study this fall in ALTA free of charge.
“Every year we get applications from highly promising students who need more English language proficiency before entering our highly respected and unique BUSCA program,” said Pamela Barnett
“We have never wanted to turn students away
so my colleagues in BUSCA envisioned a new path
More students will be able to earn La Salle degrees thanks to the NEH and to the La Salle leaders who wrote the grant
(Professor of Spanish and Chair of Global Languages
Woods said the goal is to begin ALTA this fall with a cohort of 20 students in the hopes that they will demonstrate the necessary skills to enter the BUSCA Program in the spring.
“These programs provide interested students a path to get an associate degree and then a bachelor’s degree from La Salle University,” Woods said.

Incorporate wellness and spa features into your bathroom
Your bathroom space should be more than just a place for grooming and hygiene
and you can bring more joy to your space by making it a room to rest and recharge
Enhance your home by designing your bathroom to be your very own in-house spa and create a space for relaxation
As part of my series on the “5 Things You Can Do To Help Your Living Space Spark More Joy”
I had the pleasure of interviewing Daniele Busca
Daniele is Creative Director and Brand Ambassador of Scavolini USA
Thank you so much for joining us in this series
our readers would love to learn a bit more about you
Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path
I attended the Academy of Costume and Fashion in Rome
and then worked for a luxury fashion brand
but have always had a passion for interior design
I decided to take a break from the stressful pace of Italy’s fashion industry and spend a few months in Miami to recharge (I love the sea
I reconnected with the owners of a successful company carrying Italian furniture design brands — which included Scavolini — who I had met a few months before back in Italy
They invited me out for dinner and offered me a job as marketing director to promote their business because
“You are Italian and a designer and you know all of this.” (Thanks Javier
Using my fashion industry knowledge and my eye for interior design
I was able to help clients create spaces that were at the intersection of high fashion and functionality
I eventually became the creative director and brand ambassador for Scavolini USA
helping bring collections for the incredible and innovative brand to American homes
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started this career
the most unique aspect of this career has been my move to the U.S — and starting a new life on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean
It has been a sequence of interesting stories that have collectively built my experience and reputation
Everything is different here: My first grocery trip lasted three hours and I left with a headache
I could not find anything familiar to me besides Barilla pasta
and half of the groceries ended up in the garbage
I was able to interact with Cosmopolitan personalities
top industry professionals with a true passion for Italian design
and noticed how highly the American interior design industry regarded Italian-made design
It was looking at it from a different angle
and I felt more responsibility on my end to deliver the top-quality design
which is what these discerning clients expect from an Italian product
Moving in the USA has been the most important experience in my life
Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting
Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that
“Only doers make mistakes.” And when you make mistakes
I was organizing the opening event of the company’s third store in Coral Gables
rosewood one-piece piano and other fabulous elements that would ensure the event was a memorable one
so excel and spreadsheets are for sure not my thing
I noticed that the list was not in alphabetical order
I decided to make it right so I clicked the sort button and voila: all the names were now in order
The problem — I’d inadvertently mismatched all of the addresses
the store’s owner caught it when he noticed the address of a contact he knew was incorrect
and then quickly realized that all the addresses were wrong
While no invitations went to the incorrect addresses
I learned a few things from this small blunder
First and foremost — never assume you know what you are doing (for me this is especially true with technology)
the importance of helping your colleagues succeed
a colleague was able to catch my mistake before it became an even larger issue
I’ve learned throughout my career that when one member of your team succeeds
so it is important to always support and offer assistance to your coworkers and employees
What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now
I’m getting ready to moderate an interesting panel discussion that will be held virtually during Design Chicago in partnership with Scavolini and ELLE Décor
The panelists are four amazing women who are successful entrepreneurs and well respected in the U.S
We will be focusing the conversation on the effects of COVID-19 on the design business
and how to overcome these unprecedented times
We will send a positive message to women (and men) that work in the industry and are looking for some good guidance and advice
Creativity is always a resource when the issues are unknown
and the solutions for our current situation require thinking out of the box
Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”
Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life
There are several quotes I’ve been told that have proven beneficial in my life
however one in particular is very dear to me — “Learn a trade and save it for a rainy day.” Growing up
and knew how to run a business smoothly and successfully
She showed me and taught me how to interact with clients and your employees
and that you must always be passionate about your work
and care about your clients and the finished product
I opened Scavolini USA’s flagship company owned showroom in Soho
it was the largest store in Manhattan for European kitchen cabinets
After all these years I can tell that no matter what you do for a living
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way
Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are
I’ll never understand the soloists that say “me
me.” I appreciate team players that say “us
I believe that in our career we are like musicians in an orchestra
concerts and hard work we eventually become the director
But why be a director if there is no orchestra
From my first internship in Rome as fashion designer in a Haute Couture Atelier
to my position today as Scavolini USA’s Creative director and Brand Ambassador
there are many people that helped me to be where I am now
has played a pivotal role in my professional life
We met briefly in Miami in 2008 at a business lunch
right after he was appointed CEO of the newly founded Scavolini USA Inc
— the first Scavolini branch outside of Italy
he saw qualities in me that were relevant to him and the future of the company
I was working for another global company as marketing director for the anglophone markets at the time
he called me out of the blue offering me the position of creative director in New York City for Scavolini USA
“Thanks so much Francesco but I can’t accept
It is far too cold in NYC.” I received many phone calls after that one
I’ve spent the last 10 years in New York as Scavolini USA’s Creative Director
helping clients make their dream interior spaces a reality
I do still miss Miami from November to April though
Here is the main question of our discussion
What are your “5 Things You Can Do To Help Your Living Space Spark More Joy” and why
Wellness is a trend that is becoming paramount in bathroom design
as we increasingly incorporate taking care of our body and mind into every aspect of our daily lives
Trends and innovations will continue to focus on spa and wellness features
incorporating inspiration from top luxury hotels to make bathrooms sanctuaries where design and beauty vibes with our body and energies
baths were monumental buildings or “cathedrals of wellness,” and the use of steam rooms and hot and cold water became a science
This “Mens sana in corpore sano,” or “a healthy mind in a healthy body” will permeate future bathroom trends
with designated areas for fitness that incorporate pilates
Scavolini’s Gym Space project is a great example of this
The collection combines bathroom furnishings with fitness equipment
eliminating “the commute” from your exercise to your post-workout shower
functionality and endless configuration possibilities
despite a plethora of ways to connect with people
That is why the living room is now kitchen-centric
because of the ritual related to the cooking which is at the end an act of love
The upside of a kitchen-centered living space is certainly the fact we entertain and have a true connection with people
or “social kitchen” layout can elevate your space
The kitchen has truly become the new living room
and is generally composed by a perimetral back wall and an island which is in the heart of the living room
Making the kitchen an extension of the living room enhances both the aesthetics and functionality of the space
Use warm color palettes like “greige” in lacquer or matt glass door panels that complements the room’s furniture
and texture finishes like woods in light or very dark hues
and use fully integrated appliances that can mount custom doors and use pantries that hide ovens or small appliances
Form and function are paramount for homeowners
and a great kitchen design should have both
Today’s kitchens should have multiple purposes for our busy lives
a place for entertaining and the center of your meals and cooking
While many are temporarily working from home as a result of COVID-19
working from home was a growing trend beforehand
and will continue to increase in years to come as technology makes remote working more common
This means multifunctional kitchen spaces will remain a necessity
Not having a designated space to work can impede productivity, and — especially in smaller spaces — finding an area of your home to dedicate to working can be tricky. Scavolini’s BoxLife by Rainlight can house an entire kitchen
or any combination to keep small spaces stylish and tidy
This design is ideal for transforming your bedroom or kitchen area into your work space
and keeping your work space out of sight when you want to relax
and one of the best ways to create a space that sparks joy is to design one that you’ll love — and more importantly will remain intact — for a long time
Technology is playing a major role in the performance of materials
and the following materials will have the longest lasting lifespan
It is tempered for safety reasons and painted offering an infinite gamut of colors in matte or glossy finishes
Lacquer: Matte or glossy water-based finishes are the most sustainable
thanks to technology advancements in the way the finishes are applied
When buffered the gloss finish will return to its original shine
Fenix: Fenix is the latest version of laminate made using nanotechnology
sustainable material is used for countertops
or to build integrated sinks for kitchen and bathroom vanities as well so you can match doors to the countertops
It comes in interesting colors from black to white and hot colors like Jaipur red
Fenix is quickly gaining ground for its durability and longevity
Sustainability plays a large role in creating a space that’s built to last
Scavolini’s designs and materials are built to last
expanding the lifespan of clients’ new spaces
For the structure of all kitchens and many other elements
These panels are 100% post-consumer recycled wood with the lowest formaldehyde emission
and offer excellent performance levels in terms of durability and stability
almost all the materials used by Scavolini can be recycled to produce new materials or generate energy
Refresh your space with what you already have
There’s not always a need for a total renovation
You can easily breathe new life into your interior spaces with things you already have
Here are some ways you can give your space a fresh perspective
If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people
Since I was a kid I always dreamed to be an active figure in helping others succeed
especially kids without family or resources
or those living in a difficult environment
and give them the opportunity to grow sane
safe and learn and pursue their dreams and aspirations
I hope to do that both in the USA and maybe in another country
I hope to be an inspiration and mentor to kids
to help them have all of the opportunities I have had to become successful
We are very blessed that some of the biggest names in Business
or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with
Michelle Obama has been an inspirational figure to me
She brought needed global attention to racial
Plus — lunch or breakfast with her is guaranteed to be healthy

Print Artist Lorena Ochoa sees their birthplace of Santa Ana as a city that contains multitudes
Ochoa explores those multitudes in their show at the Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana
“Lorena Ochoa: Se Busca,” which examines the place where memory and transport intersect in their home town
“This body of work is kind of my love letter to growing up in Santana,” said Ochoa
Ochoa earned their bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts with a minor in Chicana/o Studies at UCLA and received their master of fine arts at UC San Diego
On the heels of being an artist in residence at the Guapamacataro Hacienda in Michoacan in 2022
Ochoa was selected as one of seven graduating artists from regional art programs to present their work in the Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego’s annual NextGen exhibition
I am the ICA’s 2023 NextGen Award recipient
which recognizes the artist who received the highest total ranking across an international jury panel,” said Ochoa
In “Se Busca,” Ochoa uses objects that feel familiar to create a connection to her message
which generates a universal approachability
but the message behind it is so perfect for Santa Ana
and I think it really represents the community well,” said GCAC curatorial associate and public programs coordinator
“People can walk in and feel a connection.”
“Se Busca” is the first show Lee has curated
and she let the colors of Ochoa’s work dictate the composition of the exhibition
and I wanted certain colors to be next to each other or opposite each other,” said Lee
The show’s title refers to the constant searching that can be done within a marginalized community
when survival mode feels like the only mode
“What happens when you are in a constant state of searching
and it doesn’t give you the opportunity to pause and plan for the future or set goals.”

at the “Se Busca” show at the Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana
(Don Leach / Staff Photographer) A colorful string of Mini Mate coolers for example
titled “La Gente Unida,” stands in for a paper picado banner
“On one side it says ‘people,’ and on the other side it says ‘profit,’” said Ochoa
“A lot of times Latin Americans are seen for the labor they can provide and not for the people that they are
It’s the symbol of packing your lunch and going to work and doing this labor but also a way to find beauty in the fact that we are so hard working.”
In another corner two over-stuffed suitcases titled “On the Hook” and “Hold & Held” are filled with objects that simultaneously symbolize where one comes from and the trauma migration can cause
Cowboy boots and car parts are jammed in along with a plaster cast of a bolillo wedged next to a virgin statue
wrapped in protective foam but bound with string
“A lot of the items in these pieces have dual meaning,” Ochoa said
Ochoa also notes that Santa Ana is bordered by freeways and a river
which can encourage escape but also foster isolation
A detail from Santa Ana artist Lorena Ochoa’s “Somos de Calle Diptych” at the SE BUSCA show at the Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana
(Don Leach / Staff Photographer) “What I found by looking at maps while doing this research is Santana is surrounded by freeways
then the other border is the concreted portion of the Santa Ana River,” said Ochoa
but in it’s namesake it effectively creates this square around us.”
In “Se Busca,” Ochoa connects the river their mother lived close to in Michoacan to the Santa Ana River where Ochoa now makes her home
“The Santa Ana River exits in to the Pacific Ocean
but the ocean current actually goes down to Michoacan where my Mom is from
before it ravels further west,” said Ochoa
and so these ideas of the water moving and merging together.”
A water-filled LCD barricade makes up the piece “Agua Santa,” adorned with lenticular religious figures and fitted with brass hose bibs
While bodies of water can signify life and movement
Santa Ana artist Lorena Ochoa’s “La Genie Undid” at the “Se Busca” show at the Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana
(Don Leach / Staff Photographer) “There is this idea of movement that surrounds us with the flowing of river and traffic,” said Ochoa
Barriers is a theme that carries over to Grand Central Art Center’s concurrent exhibit
“‘Welcome’ is an installation that is thinking about the limits of ‘welcome,’” said Bielak
“One of the things that is in the design of the installation is for you to be frustrated in your attempts to get through it,” said Schmalz
“You have to contend with these various barriers and interruptions.”
Bielak and Schmalz’s residency is supported in part by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and “Welcome” is inspired by four years of site visits
archival research and collaborations with Orange County activists
The show examines the ways social structures within our culture can determine who a welcome is extended to and ways that invitation can be rescinded
Artists Susy Bielak and Fred Schmalz stand in front of their “Hybrid” piece at the Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana
(Don Leach / Staff Photographer) “Over the course of our time here in Orange County
we have really found ourselves thinking in a more kind of intersectional way about the way in which control functions spatially,” said Bielak
Schmalz said that includes everything from plant hybridization to urban development and the designs of streets and cities and neighborhoods and gated communities
paintings of archival photographs tell stories from O.C.’s history that include Japanese Americans who were separated from their land
cheap labor and the fumigation of orange trees
“We really wanted to uplift and notice and pay attention to histories from this region,” said Bielak
The show also features an infographic poem “Three Conditional Welcomes,” which borrows from the initial planning documents for UC Irvine designed by a defense contractor
“Restricted Area” is part of Susy Bielak and Fred Schmalz exhibit at the Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana
(Don Leach / Staff Photographer) “Hybrid,” the exhibition’s largest installation
is centered around a painting of an image that originally appeared in an agriculture-industry magazine that Bielak found herself taken with
“I was so struck by it and by this idea of hybridization
like how to make the perfect thing,” said Bielak
The painting of an orange blossom being hybridized is surrounded by a short picket fence on the side of AstroTurf hills
The show’s sound installations “Never Never” and “Am I an American” feature Valley High School choir students singing a chant the artists derived from a 1970s fair housing protest and a question printed on a 1920s KKK recruitment flier
“We were working with the choir at Valley High
and we brought them two texts that were complicated for different reasons,” Schmalz said
“We reduced those texts down to a slogan that could be used as a chant.”
Valley High School students and music director
joined Bielak and Schmalz’s artist talk at GCAC for a moving performance
“Lorena Ochoa: Se Busca” is open through Nov. 12, with Ochoa building a special ofrenda for the Nov. 4 art walk. “Bielak and Fred Schmalz: Welcome” runs through Jan. 14. For more information visit grandcentralartcenter.com.

Border Patrol officials said another "Se Busca Información" criminal target was arrested this weekend due to information provided to the tip-line
Mexican authorities confirmed the capture of “EP1,” a 39-year-old Mexican national with an alias of “El Pitufo.”
Gallegos has an extensive criminal history including aggravated homicide
This arrest will be the third apprehension made from the current “Se Busca Información” target list
A total of five criminals have been arrested as a result of information provided to the tip line since the campaign began in late October
which means to look for information in English
identifies ten individuals associated with transnational criminal organizations
is a bi-national initiative between the United States and Mexico that encourages the public on both sides of the border to anonymously report information about wanted criminals with the goal of disrupting and displacing members of criminal organization that presents threats to the community on both sides of the border
People who have information about the targets can confidentially report this information to law enforcement at 915-314-8194
Border Patrol while remaining anonymous by calling 1-800-635-2509

The report finds that existing PvP arrangements have been successful at reducing settlement risk for much of the FX market
but certain market segments remain exposed to risk: PvP arrangements are not available for all currencies and may not be the preferred solution of some market participants or for settling certain trades
New PvP solutions can complement the existing arrangements by providing flexibility and functionalities such as real-time settlement or 24/7 operations
expanding coverage to the retail market
existing as well as new PvP arrangements face barriers to broad adoption
including: (i) weak incentives for market participants to settle FX trades using PvP; (ii) technical challenges for PvP providers to access and interoperate with real-time gross settlement systems; and (iii) legal challenges for PvP providers to reconcile differences in national legal and regulatory frameworks
Facilitating further adoption of PvP depends on whether providers of PvP services can overcome these barriers
The report identifies the roles public and private sector stakeholders could play to help increase adoption of PvP and unlock the full potential of innovation in new settlement solutions while mitigating risk
The CPMI will further engage with industry stakeholders to explore possible practical actions to expand PvP settlement
In cooperation with other public stakeholders and relevant international committees
the CPMI will continue to monitor the evolution of FX settlement risk and PvP adoption with the aim of reducing settlement risk and enhancing global cross-border payments
and Mexican law enforcement agencies have teamed up to release their new 10 most wanted criminal targets for their "Se Busca Informacion" campaign
The poster identifies 10 Mexican citizens wanted in connection to transnational crimes
the photos of these wanted individuals will be placed on posters
and billboards in city streets and stores in Chihuahua
and ports of entry in El Paso and New Mexico sector
In a press conference at the Bridge of the Americas on Friday
Special Advisor to the Office of the Commissioner of CBP Nelson Balido said they want to encourage people in Mexico to not be afraid to call in with information or tips

Border Patrol of the El Paso sector Anthony Scott Good further explained that no personal or contact information from a caller will be shared
only the information concerning the wanted suspect
the woman on the wanted poster has been arrested
The woman was wanted in connection to the smuggling of a four-year-old child
Launched in 2016 as a joint effort between the U.S
Border Patrol and the Government of Mexico
the campaign identifies suspects associated with transnational criminal organizations wanted for crimes associated with human and drug smuggling on both sides of the border
the initiative introduced a new QR code that will also allow them to update the wanted posters in real time with new photos or information

THE BEST OF THE AMERICAN LATINO & MULTICULTURAL EXPERIENCE
La Salle’s BUSCA program focuses on Latino enhancing
The Bilingual Undergraduate Studies for Collegiate Advancement (BUSCA) allows Latinx students to earn a four-semester associate of arts degree from La Salle University with a concentration in English.
Fall 2023 marks BUSCA's 30th anniversary—in an interview with AL DÍA
shares the importance of being Latino enhancing and supporting Latinx students in developing their foundational knowledge
improving their academic and language skills in a space that is nurturing and demanding.
BUSCA has grown from a six-student cohort taught in Spanish to then
it was 80% in Spanish and 20% in English— taking approximately six years to develop the academic language
switching to a program that is primarily now taught in English.
BUSCA usually has approximately 60 new students starting each fall—to try and keep class size between 15-20
which is what is recommended by the Modern Language Association
allowing students to have “robust conversations while also allowing students time to get individual attention from the instructors,” explained Woods.
The associate degree program has 60 credits or 20 classes
students take three courses in Spanish for two reasons: to Latino enhance and prepare students to work in the Latino community if that is what they aspire to do.
“We want to be Latino enhancing to make sure that the students know that their culture
“We want to make sure that they have the academic Spanish.”
The program wants Latinx students to be able to market themselves and go into the Latino community fully bilingual with the academic language in their native tongue
The curriculum offers two “Spanish for Heritage Speakers” and “Spanish and Hispanic Cinema” courses as part of the sheltered immersion protocol—develop the vocabulary needed for assignments and ensure students have the required background knowledge to complete tasks outside of class
BUSCA instructors assist students in developing the four domains of the English language: listening
with only limited programmatic exceptions until October 2020
when it “expanded its admission protocol to become fully test-optional for all undergraduate programs,” as reported by La Salle News.
BUSCA does not require SAT testing as part of its admissions protocol but a free English language assessment to students—the program looks for intermediate English language users—a person who knows present
Although perfect usage is not necessary for the program
some background understanding of those tenses is because the goal is to “get them out of the intermediate zone and into the advanced zone while they are in BUSCA,” Woods reiterated.
Participants of the program are also considered a student at La Salle University and have access to all buildings and tutoring services.
BUSCA is concerned about Latinx enhancing and Latinx producing; reasons why Woods recognizes that “most of our people
our students are going to be working.” The program is at night
and although many universities close their offices at 4:30 pm
members of BUSCA stay until 6:00 pm or 6:15 pm to see if students need assistance.
“We recognize that even the people in BUSCA
may have responsibilities for their siblings
or maybe they are living with an aunt or uncle and helping take care of their cousins,” Woods said
the admissions counselors work very closely with the person.”
The program is committed to Latinx students' success
It continues to help graduates who may require guidance
La Salle provides services to assist this population of students.
We are hopefully lifting a family and improving generational wealth
BUSCA students who pursue a Bachelor’s degree have the English skills needed to be successful
Worth noting is that BUSCA offers free tuition to students that qualify for full-tuition aid or Pell Grant
the program grants at least two scholarships to people excluded from qualifying for federal aid.
“BUSCA graduates are equipped to continue their education and to become lifelong learners and empowered bilingual leaders in our communities and society,” the website says
BUSCA has received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities to offer a free pre-BUSCA program to applicants who need additional support to demonstrate the level of English necessary to enter BUSCA
I would recommend BUSCA to new students because they will not only help you get through your classes but also
they would listen to all your concerns and walk you through the rough path, said Lina Barrios

there are no matches available for this year
individual player stats are cumulative for the calendar year and not calculated using a minimum match requirement
On a wet day in Melbourne where the elements wreaked havoc on the order of play, Denis Shapovalov was able to overcome the distractions and joined Félix Auger-Aliassime in the third round of the Australian Open with a straight-set win over Taro Daniel
Bianca Andreescu was not as lucky as she suffered a heart-breaking defeat from match point up to Spanish qualifier Cristina Busca
leaving Leylah Annie Fernandez as the only Canadian woman left in the singles draw
Once Shapovalov was able to take to the court after the match was pushed several hours by a rain delay and a preceding match going the distance
the 20th seed was able to overcome some streaky moments and played his best tennis when he needed to on his way to a 6-3
The serve was a bit erratic for Shapovalov
who had nine aces and won 78 per cent of his first serve while also striking nine double faults and putting just 56 per cent of first serves in play
he was the aggressor hitting 53 winners to Daniel’s eight
his opponent had the far worse ratio with 34 unforced errors to go with his low winner count
converting six of his nine break point opportunities while saving five of eight on his own serve
An early turning point came at 2-3 in the first set
when the Canadian fell behind love-40 on his serve but bailed himself out with some incredible hitting
including a gutsy drop shot winner at 30-40
That hold flipped the momentum and kicked off a run of four straight games for Shapovalov
He scored the first break of the match with a perfect forehand passing shot winner for a 4-3 lead and then broke again to wrap up the opening set
Daniel quickly stopped the run with a break to start the second set courtesy of a Shapovalov double fault
Shapovalov immediately responded with his third consecutive break of serve
both men struggled to pull away when they got the advantage
Shapovalov broke to love to take a 3-1 lead
only to hit back-to-back double faults in the next game to gift the Japanese a break back
the 20th seed did manage to go on a run at the perfect time
winning five straight points from 2-3 in the second set tiebreak to establish a two-set lead
Daniel struck first in the third with a break for 3-1
Shapovalov immediately broke back when the Japanese played an error-filled game to blow his lead
Just when it seemed like the third set was also destined for a tiebreak
At 5-5 Daniel had four points to hold serve
but a trio of Shapovalov winners and a double fault kept the game going
Persistence paid off for Shapovalov when Daniel misfired on the first break point
The Canadian is through to the third round in Melbourne for the third year in a row
He will meet 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz in the next round
with all four meetings taking place on hard courts
but they have not played in nearly two years with the last matchup coming in Miami in 2021
Taking to the court many hours after their originally-scheduled start time due to an extensive rain delay
Bianca Andreescu got off to a quick start and seemed well on her way to a high-profile third round clash with world No
but she was unable to seal the deal against Cristina Busca and fell in three sets
The match looked to be all Andreescu when she cruised through the first set
had an early break in the second and then a match point in the second set tiebreak
but Busca refused to go away and it ended up being the Spaniard setting a date with the top seed after a 2-6
Consistency in the key moments was a deciding factor in the match as Andreescu committed 20 of her 53 unforced errors in the third set
the pair had nearly identical winner-to-unforced error counts with 31 winners apiece and a 50 (Busca) to 53 (Andreescu) edge to the Spaniard on unforced errors
winning five games in a row to take a 5-1 lead in the first set
She then ripped a forehand winner to break in the opening game of the second set and seemingly take control of the match
Now it was the Spaniard’s turn to reel off five straight games as errors began to creep into the Canadian’s pattern of play
Andreescu double-faulted on break point in her next service game to go behind in the second set
the Canadian committed five unforced errors to allow a third straight break
from 5-1 up and serving for the second set
also missing a set point when some big forehands from the Canadian blew her off the court
which kicked off a run for Andreescu who managed to level the set at 5-5
The tiebreak was back-and-forth but Andreescu had a chance to get off the court when she held match point at 6-5
But the errors that haunted her throughout the second and third sets got the better of the Canadian
Busca went on to convert her third set point
and then broke immediately to start the deciding set
Andreescu did manage to break in the fourth game
only to give the lead right back to the Spaniard which this time proved decisive as the Canadian missed break points in the six at tenth games
It is a third loss consecutive second-round loss at the Australian Open for Andreescu
who has reached and lost in that round in each of her appearances at Melbourne Park
