In Italy, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are only able to enter boxers in the specific weight categories in which they have not already obtained a quota at a previous tournament - for example, from the 2023 European Games or 2023 Pan American Games.
Quotas will be awarded by name to the top performing athletes in each weight category with a maximum of one per weight category for each gender per NOC.

The championship season could not have started better at Palaverde
with Prosecco DOC Imoco respecting the prediction and winning the first match of the year against Eurotek UYBA Busto Arsizio
five months since the last match played at home in the last championship final
Emotions right from the start with the awarding of Olympic medals by the Panthers’ main sponsors and the winners of LVF’s 2023/24 awards coach Dniele Santarelli (Segio Guerra award for best coach) and young center Katja Eckl (best under-21 in A2
then it’s on to the excitement of the 5,000 at Palaverde
In the second set with Obossa’s verve Eurotek stretches (4-6)
De Gennaro and teammates’ operation-hooking materializes already at 8
are fierce and insist by fighting in defense and placing good shots that fool the wall of the Venetian: 12-15
Sarah Fahr swamps under the net exploiting her chemistry with Wolosz
but Busto with Piva (6 points in the set) and Obossa keeps pushing and regains the lead (15-18)
the red-and-white fans are loud at Palaverde
The Panthers extinguish the enthusiasm with a flare-up
then Wolosz comes back in and returning neat and precise Gabi and teammates go back up taking the lead at 23-21
An excellent Khalia Lanier (she will be MVP with 13 points
like Fahr) signs the final two shots unhinging the opponent’s wall and Prosecco DOC Imoco closes 25-22
In the third partial the first break is Conegliano’s with peremptory walls of Fahr (10 points at the end) and Bella Haak (top scorer with 15 points) propitiated by a nice Gabi’s serve
Also entering the double change with Nanami Seki and Adiwge
Prosecco DOC Imoco continues to march smoothly to its first win of the season
UYBA struggles to keep up with the furious pace of Chirichella and her teammates
Bardaro and Lukasik (another league debut) also enter and the Panthers close in beauty 25-14 with Adiwge’s final point a match controlled with authority at Palaverde
But the party does not end with the last ball
after the evocative parade match with the banners of last year’s four trophies that thrilled the audience
with images of the “poker” of the 2023/24 season on the big screens before the usual crowd bath with autographs and selfies for all

INTERVIEWS ON IMOCO VOLLEYBALL’S YOUTUBE AND FACEBOOK CHANNEL
These two mistakes cost Bonera's side dearly who didn't manage to make things happen in front of goal for the rest of the game
The chances came mostly at the start of the game and the final moments
there weren't many but with more ruthlessness
it could have been a different evening in Busto Arsizio.
Back from the international break with a result that once again postpones our first win of the season
there were several positive signs with Coubis featuring in the starting XI after a long injury spell and the impact of the substitutes
we have the chance to get back on track right away with the game on Wednesday against Torres
Kick-off is at 20:45 CEST as we continue on our journey of growth

Home defeat for Milan Futuro who lost to Ascoli at the Speroni in Busto Arsizio. The Marche side won 2-0 on matchday 4 of the Serie C Now having decided the result in the space of ten minutes: first-half goals with Corazza from the spot and Menna from a corner
controlling the game and threatening a couple of times
The first chance came for Samuele Longo in the 7th minute as he picked up a good pass from Sandri to shoot but the Ascoli defence closed him down
The Rossoneri number 7 got off a quick shot
Fall shot from the edge of the box but didn't trouble the ex-Milan Primavera player
One minute later and the fun was over as Bozzolan's tackle in the box led to a penalty for Ascoli: Corazza converted from the stop
Nava went the right way but couldn't stop Ascoli from making it 1-0
Menna got to it before Bozzolan and doubled the visitors' lead
Referee: Sacchi di Macerata.\nGoals: 25' pen

Following the decision by the IOC Session last year
the inclusion of boxing in the LA28 Olympic programme is on hold and not confirmed
If there is no boxing body supported and driven by the National Federations
we will not be in a position to include boxing in the Olympic programme
“So it’s now up to the National Federations to drive this change and to work to create a body that we can work in partnership with
because we cannot move forward with this current situation
“The IOC Session in Mumbai in 2023 also made it clear that the IBA will not be involved in the organisation of the boxing tournament at LA28
should boxing be included in the sports programme.”

Compatriot Aira Villegas also secured a quota
while Omari Jones obtained a quota for the USA
Following a cagey start in the women’s 57kg bout, the southpaw exploded to life, landing some trademark stinging body shots on Esra Yildiz Kahraman of Turkiye, who struggled to keep pace.
Kahraman responded by coming forward aggressively in the second and third, and caught an increasingly passive Petecio out several times with some pinpoint jabs.
But Petecio used superior ringcraft to protect her lead, and eventually closed out the match with a split decision victory. If selected, she will become the first Filipino female boxer to secure two Olympic quotas.
“I am so blessed. This is very important for me because maybe this is my last Olympics.
"I got this ticket for so many people, especially my family, to God, and for our former President who died, and for my partner in life. Before (the tournament), I promised her that I would win the ticket to Paris and finally this is it! I’m so happy.
"I will not stop until I get the Olympic gold medal."
In the other 57kg semifinal, Julia Szeremeta outlasted USA’s Alyssa Mendoza in a 3-2 split decision to secure a quota for Poland.
There was more good news for the Philippines as Petecio’s compatriot, Aira Villegas, hung on to obtain an Olympic quota thanks to her unanimous points decision win over Zlatislava Chukanova from Bulgaria in the women’s 50 kg.
Villegas’ speed early on was the key difference between the two, helping her to overcome a point deduction in the second round and a knockdown in the third.
In the men’s 51kg, USA’s Roscoe Hill was desperately unlucky to lose to Nijat Huseynov of Azerbaijan.
Hill, the 2021 world championships silver medallist, sent his opponent to the ground with a devastating right cross in the first round. But he was seemingly penalised for boxing on the back foot for the rest of the contest, with the victory and Olympic quota being secured by Huseynov.
USA fans did have something to cheer about, however, with Omari Jones securing an Olympic quota courtesy of a nail-biting split decision win over India’s Nishant Dev in the men’s 71kg.
The bout was close, and a cut opened on Jones’ face in the third round, but he was able to be aggressive enough to get the win and secure a quota. Jones’ win was the only one for the United States on Monday.
“As you can see I’m cut, but I made sure I got the job done.”
Now, if selected, his goal for Paris 2024 is simple:“Win a gold medal. Win that gold medal.”

while Ireland’s victorious Grainne Walsh keeps proving the doubters wrong in Busto Arsizio
The 2021 world champion was edged out 3-2 on split decision by Slovakia’s Andrej Csemez in their men’s 80kg round of 32 clash
In October 2023, the Las Vegas native was eliminated in the opening round of the Pan American Games Olympic qualifier in Santiago, Chile.
Gonzales, who was understandably frustrated afterwards, may have one final chance to make his Olympics dream come true if he is selected for the 2nd World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok from 23 May to 3 June.
Ireland’s Grainne Walsh continued her fine form with a hard-fought split decision win over Germany’s Stefanie Von Berge in the women’s 66kg round of 32
Victory was especially sweet for the European Games bronze medallist
given the difficult few years she has overcome with injury
and even the departure of her long-term coach
“Five years ago I did not understand the meaning of resilience
but I learnt that when life gives you lemons
you’ve got to make lemonade!” Walsh told Olympics.com after her victory
“When people write me off and tell me I can’t do it
we have fighting DNA so I’m here to fight all the way to Paris
If you want to be the best you have to beat them all
I have a lot of respect for this German girl
It's a shame we had to meet so early but that’s the way it goes
It was a very tough fight and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Walsh seems especially dialled in at this event
which may be because of her decision to come off social media and focus on boxing
“I made mistakes before when I was younger
being too focussed on social media and having people telling you that you’re brilliant,” she continued
Once I do that I will go on social media again and everyone can say what they want.”
Kinoshita Rinka of Japan beat Great Britain's Savannah Stubley by unanimous decision
has received a boost ahead of the Boxing Road to Paris World Qualification Tournament in Italy by winning a key warm-up competition
Indeed, in Petecio's women's 57kg weight category, just two quota spots will be secured by the winning semi-finalists in Italy, meaning the Davao del Sur native will likely have to win four times to secure the quota.
But the 31-year-old is as well-placed as anyone to do so. The Olympic silver medallist from Tokyo 2020 in 2021 is riding a high heading into Busto Arsizio, having won a prestigious warm-up competition, the Boxam Elite Tournament in Spain, last month.
That win was just the latest notch under her belt as she's all in on the dream of gold in Paris.
she will have a second chance at the last qualifier to be held in Bangkok in May and June
But make no mistake: she wants to finish the job in Busto Arsizio
where she beat Tokyo bronze medallist Huang Hsiao-Wen of Chinese Taipei in the final by a 4-1 split decision
is a good sign – but the Davao City-trained fighter says there's more to work on
Even a recent training camp in Australia before heading to Spain didn't satiate the Filipina
"I'll just maintain my weight but I still need to enhance my speed
I still have to improve in everything," she told SunStar Davao
It's an understandable position to take
given that prior to her recent victory in southern Spain
she had lost at both the 2023 World Championships in the round of 16
and then in the first round of the Asian Games in Hangzhou
which was her first opportunity to qualify for Paris
she was eliminated by Omailyn Alcalá of Venezuela; at the latter by eventual champion Lin Yu-Ting of Chinese Taipei
With neither of them competing in Busto Arsizio
the potential tests appear less daunting for Petecio
she recently topped the voting in an election for the Philippine Olympic Committee Athletes' Commission
Having previously been appointed to the Commission
she – reluctantly – decided to stand for re-election
She told Sunstar Davao: "I didn't want to run for a seat because I didn't have the talent for those things."
The election took place on the day the boxing squad left Manila for Spain
We're travelling to Spain and that's why I was surprised by the 121 votes," she explained
it's clear her compatriots trust her to deliver in and out of the ring

who was retired from the sport until five months ago with mental health issues
told Olympics.com why he got back in the ring after his opening 71kg victory in Busto Arsizio
“I’m just happy to be here and back in boxing. To be honest even before going in the ring today I was wondering, ‘What am I doing here? How did it come to this?’ Walsh told Olympics.com after his victory.
“It took a lot of work to get back to boxing and it was a real mental struggle, so to be back here is just an absolute privilege.
“Five months ago I was sitting on the chair at home, drinking a can of Coke and watching TV, and now I’m here trying to qualify for the Olympic Games. It’s amazing. I’m just looking forward to going back now and having a nice cup of tea, chilling out in my room, and seeing my family.”

Michaela’s career has continued to shine since then, and she secured another Olympic quota for Ireland at the 2023 European Games.
However, Aidan’s mental and physical health issues meant that he took a break from the sport before retiring, and it looked like his Paris 2024 dream was over.
But with the help of his family and sports psychologists, he got back into training and convinced the national team coaches to select him for this Paris 2024 World Qualification Tournament.
“My sister’s my role model. I’ll never reach the heights she’s reached. She was unfortunate in Tokyo, but she’s doing absolutely amazing,” Aidan Walsh continued.
“I’m looking forward to seeing her this week and for me, I don’t really care if I qualify for not as long as she’s qualified and I hope that she gets her medal.
“Obviously I would love to join her, but at the same time I would love to see her win an Olympic medal, and that’s partly why I’m back to get a free ticket to Tokyo!”
“The Olympics changed my life, and I will be forever grateful to the Olympic Games because it’s something that I will remember for the rest of my life.
“The help and support that I got after that was absolutely amazing, and I was surrounded by good people. I’m just happy to be back in boxing and just loving sport again.
“My main motivation now is just to be here and enjoy sport. Whether I win, lose or draw, I just want to compete to my best.”

On 12 October 2021 the English High Court ruled that interest rate swaps executed between Deutsche Bank AG London ("Deutsche Bank") and the Italian municipality Comune di Busto Arsizio ("Busto") in mid-2007 were valid and binding
obliging Busto to maintain its payments to the bank up to the conclusion of the swaps in 2031
Whilst the English courts have seen a steady stream of similar cases in recent years (flowing from ISDA transaction documentation often providing for English law and jurisdiction in favour of the English courts)
this most recent ruling from the Commercial Court (Financial List) in Deutsche Bank v Busto [2021] EWHC 2706 (Comm) is a significant decision amongst the crop
It follows last year's much-reported Italian Supreme Court Decision No
which sets out circumstances in which interest rate swaps would be null and void under Italian law
This is the first case in which the English court has considered the application of Cattolica Italian law issues to an English law interest rate swap contract
Mrs Justice Cockerill establishes important principles surrounding the capacity of Italian public bodies ("IPBs") to execute swap contracts and deftly addresses challenging issues arising from the interpretation and application of the Cattolica decision
Before the financial crisis of 2007-2008 reverberated through the global financial markets
scores of local authorities in Italy entered into derivatives contracts with counterparty banks with the aim of managing their financial risk
IPBs sought to hedge their exposure to future interest rate rises on floating rate loans by way of interest rate swaps
commonly swapping variable rate obligations for those with a cap and a floor
The swaps also often served to modify the amortisation profile of the underlying debt
with the IPBs making lower repayments in the early years of the swap
This sought to lessen immediate financial pressures on the IPBs and provide short term liquidity
Whilst the swaps may have seemed prudent at the time
the subsequent credit crunch and the dramatic fall in EURIBOR (the usual reference rate for the IPBs' variable rate borrowing) shifted the benefit of the swaps firmly in the banks' favour
Both the Italian and English courts have seen significant traffic of claims brought either by IPBs seeking to have swaps declared invalid or unenforceable
or by banks seeking declarations of validity and enforceability in order to hold IPBs to their bargain
Some claims were filed only in recent years despite the parties having performed their respective obligations for over a decade
This perhaps reflects the increased appetite of IPBs to challenge their swaps only once they became overall net payers under the terms of the transactions
this slew of derivatives transactions has created a long tail of cases arising from the financial crisis
the Italian Supreme Court set out general principles relating to the validity of interest rate swap agreements entered into by IPBs
the court ruled that such contracts would be void in the face of any of the following matters:
this ruling represented cause for concern amongst the banks
Not only could existing swaps executed with IPBs be held to be void
but any future swaps with Italian counterparties could bring with them an associated burden of providing additional information on the costs
risks and suite of potential outcomes of the swap
It was therefore with some interest that the market awaited this decision signalling how the English court would interpret and apply Cattolica
The central point in issue in Deutsche Bank v Busto was whether Busto had capacity
placing heavy reliance on the Cattolica decision
on a plain reading of Article 119 of the Italian Constitution and associated legislative provisions
the transactions did not constitute indebtedness and
The judgment observed that Article 119 does not "set out any of the limits on capacity which Busto has pleaded" or prohibit IPBs from executing derivatives contracts even of a "speculative nature"
the straight-forward statutory interpretation was clearly in the bank's favour
The court noted that "Busto's case therefore requires words to be read into these provisions" in order to succeed
The court then considered the delineation between speculative swaps and those executed for hedging purposes
as a matter of Italian law as set down in the Cattolica decision
IPBs may only enter into derivatives contracts to hedge financial risk; not if they are speculative
The Italian Supreme Court was clear on this point
regardless of the fact that it had not identified any "express prohibition
or provided guidance as to what may constitute a speculative contract
It was noted that the matter may be ripe for revisitation in future cases before the Italian courts
the English court did not seek to diverge from the ruling in Cattolica
and proceeded to assess whether the swaps in question were for hedging or speculative purposes
Busto's argument on this point was ultimately defeated
with the court considering that the swaps were a hedge to balance existing financial risk
Finally in respect of capacity under Italian law
the swaps did require authorisation by the City Council pursuant to Article 42(2)(i) of the TUEL
but only if they involved (i) payment of an "upfront" premium payment from the bank to the IPB
or (iii) significant modification to existing loans
no expert evidence was put before the court on these points
There was no upfront payment in these particular swaps (although they do feature in swaps that are the subject of other similar disputes brought before the English courts)
but Busto sought to argue in closing that the swaps did represent a significant modification to the underlying loans
Taking a holistic view of the transactions
the court sided with Deutsche Bank and held that the swaps did not significantly alter the reference loans and therefore did not require City Council approval
the transaction documentation had been ratified by the City Council when it approved the city's annual budget every year from 2008
As to Busto's contention that Deutsche Bank was obliged (and failed) to provide information on mark-to-market values
there was some debate as to whether the relevant passages in Cattolica went to matters of capacity or rather concerned the elements of a valid contract under Italian civil law
The court considered that the latter was correct
and sought to address the question of the effect of such Italian law breaches given that the swap contracts were governed by English law
The court ruled that the validity of the swaps fell to be determined under English law and
these requirements of Italian law as determined in the Cattolica decision were inapplicable
the judgment addressed several additional points and arguments made in the alternative which ultimately fell away
These are not addressed in this article but make for interesting reading
In light of the key role played by the Cattolica judgment in this case
much turned on the English Court's approach to its interpretation and application of that judgment
The court considered that it could "diverge from even the highest authority
particularly in the context of a civilian law system" if it was satisfied on the evidence that the relevant ruling did not represent foreign (in this case
although ultimately did not consider it necessary to do so
This judgment will no doubt be welcomed by the banking sector
although it may not be the final chapter given the attention that it draws to aspects of Cattolica which the Italian courts may look to revisit in due course

pastor of one of the parishes of Busto Arsizio
He and three parishioners took two vehicles and drove for 20 hours straight to reach the border between Poland and Ukraine to pick up some Ukrainian children who had already visited his parish in the past
The link between Ukraine and Busto Arsizio has been very close since 1998
dozens of Ukrainian children have been spending the summer in this town
hosted by families from different parishes
Giuseppe says that after the first bombings he was able to talk to the children over the phone: some of them were very frightened and crying
One of them had lost his house to the bombs and was hiding with others in the basement of a school
When the priest learned that some of them had crossed the border into Poland
he quickly organized the trip to bring the children to Italy
together with a mother and her 14-day-old baby
who states in the letter that he is not a parishioner of that parish but often attends Saturday Mass

will play the role of facilitator and enabler for the introduction of the new technology
The main field of application of this project is automotive
but it is the first phase to develop the know-how and the enabling conditions (technological
logistics) for the aeronautical use of hydrogen
according to a system approach which is the only one that will allow the future development of this innovation in the transport sector
together with other solutions such as SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels
which are also fundamental for the process of decarbonization”
it will be possible to create an ecosystem that implements the entire hydrogen supply chain – from production to storage
involving the network of local businesses so that they can
Spanish and Greek companies specialized in production
research and development in various application areas of hydrogen-related technologies
each with their own skills and capabilities
to the study useful solutions for the creation of the hydrogen valley
Particular attention will be paid to optimizing the production costs of hydrogen
one of the most valid energy sources for decarbonization
The objective is to lay the foundations for the use of hydrogen in airports (Malpensa can become a model for other airports) contributing to cut climate-changing emissions and extending the benefits also to other manufacturing sectors
as 25 years ago supported the development of Malpensa 2000 (the new terminal was inaugurated on 25 October 1998
ed.) including it among the major Ten-T infrastructure development projects
With this project Malpensa emerges once again as a fundamental driver of development for the benefit of the entire area.”
will consist in the application of technical solutions to adapt airport vehicles which can be turned to hybrid propulsion based on fuel cells to power electric motors as alternative to internal combustion engines
suitable solutions will be studied to create
in an environment with very high safety standards
a system to ensure the supply of hydrogen to airport vehicles

Casa CM is the result of the renovation of a small Art Nouveau building in the centre of Busto Arsizio (Varese)
Constructed between the end of 1920s and the beginning of the 1930s
it was originally the private villa of a family of textile industrialists; later it was used as a care home
Today it is owned by a couple with three children: the wife a lawyer
the husband an operator in the world of design
they did not want to renounce the value of memory but dreamed of a more up-to-date dimension of living
The project was entrusted to Oasi architects of Busto Arsizio
a practice founded by two architects in their thirties
Pietro Ferrario and Francesco Enea Castellanza
They have created a domestic setting with a delicate vocabulary that outlines clean
A work of conceptual and physical cleansing has made it possible to rediscover the horizontal dimension of the old house and the new vertical space of the ample central corridor,” they explain
The two five-metre-wide “aisles”– at the sides of the spacious central corridor – have been freed of the partitions that used to form small passageways
part of the floor has been removed – while preserving the original beams as a reminder of the past – to create an opening in the shape of a buttonhole running the full height of the building
through which the spaces of the house are visible and in communication with one another
On the ground floor the entrance of the house gives onto a longitudinal sequence that leads to the left into the kitchen and dining room and to the right into the living area
The three spaces flow into one another; there are no physical or visual barriers
The bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the upper floor
while the attic houses a storeroom and the basement the services
Through a process of “stripping” the architects have introduced a new logic of interaction between the living spaces
but using a subtle language that places the reorganization of the building’s layout in the foreground
Now the new identity created for this house includes pre-existing elements – the frescoes uncovered on the ceilings
the fireplace in the living area – but immerses them in radically revised spatialities and atmospheres

Asian Games bronze medallist Narender Berwal and World Championship bronze medallists Mohammed Hussamuddin
The boxers have been selected after a comprehensive evaluation process
conducted by the high-performance unit based on various performance parameters
The first World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio will have 50 Olympics quotas - 28 in the men’s and 22 in women’s categories - up for grabs.

the exhibition Giuseppe Bossi and Raphael kicks off until May 2
which tells the story of how Giuseppe Bossi (Busto Arsizio
was fascinated by Raphael’s painting
the review aims to explore biographical moments and of Giuseppe Bossi’s artistic creation that are most affected by Raphael’s influence
Two aspects are privileged: the initial artistic formation with the fundamental stay in Rome and the mature reworking of some figurative themes inferred from the Urbino. The exhibition represents Bustocco’s contribution to the widespread event Raphael
Guardians of Myth in Lombardy and is closely linked to the exhibition Giuseppe Bossi and Raphael at Castello Sforzesco: in fact
unpublished Bossian works from private collections and the Busto painter’s works held by the Civic Collections
as well as objects that belonged to him and have never before been exhibited
are on display at Palazzo Cicogna for the first time
The privately owned works in the exhibition are drawn from the Busto collection of Gian Carlo Carnaghi and the Turin collection of the Bossi heirs
Some have been loaned by Il Bulino antique prints
“This is an artistic nucleus of great importance and beauty
connected to the exhibition set up at Castello Sforzesco
in collaboration with which it was born and developed
offers Busto an unprecedented and rare showcase,” says deputy mayor and councillor for Culture Manuela Maffioli
“A cultural operation made possible by the synergy with private collectors who have lent some of the works on display and with the sponsors
without whose contribution we would hardly have achieved such a result: to them
has always attracted the attention of Busto scholars and collectors
who since the early 20th century have recognized the value of his graphic and pictorial works
he was educated in schools of excellence such as the San Bartolomeo college of the Somaschi fathers in Merate and the Collegio Reale in Monza
He attended the Brera Academy for just under two years and in late 1795 decided that he would complete his education in Rome in direct contact with masterpieces of ancient art
which he had attended as a student only a short time before
In this role until 1807 he profoundly marked the life of this institution with his reforms
retired to private life but with duties of public importance
he produced a pictorial copy of Leonardo’s Last Supper and a much-appreciated volume
He attempted to start a special School of Painting
but above all he amassed a superlative art collection (one remembers at least Mantegna’s Dead Christ) and a very rich library
both of which were dispersed after his death in 1815
