"Being relegated hurts - reads a note from the club, which makes no excuses - but the verdict of the field is final and honestly correct: this season started badly, many mistakes on and off the field, a mountain to climb that proved too arduous and, despite the extraordinary self-denial of the boys, many of whom finished in tears, we were unable to straighten it out. There is still one last match to play, to honor this year until the end: Saturday in Bolzano". Concepts reiterated by the Vice President Luca Bartoli: "Being relegated hurts, this is the first step backwards since the club was refounded. It happens, the important thing is to correct ourselves and start again. There are many things to fix, but paradoxically this relegation can be the first step towards a new beginning. Rubiera deserves Serie A and Serie A must have Rubiera. So starting next season we will aim to return to the top". The club has decided that its number three will no longer be worn by anyone. Brian Camerano (MST ’16) began his path to tax associate at PwC while still in high school Camerano elected to take two years of financial accounting and he decided to apply to Bentley University for a Bacholor of Science in Accountancy he soon found himself taking a plethora of accounting classes including a tax course that was mandatory for his major Federal Taxation with Professor Arthur Reed He found himself spending hours deep in the pages of the Internal Revenue Code not realizing that half the day had gone by while he was researching “There is something about tax that when you are reading and studying it you know whether or not it's something for you,” he says “I knew I could make a career out of doing something I like.” Camerano ended up completing two internships in corporate tax and a third doing personal tax returns he was a self-professed “tax nerd” and decided to remain at Bentley for an additional year to complete his Master of Science in Taxation (MST) Camerano wanted to go straight into his graduate studies so he could focus solely on work after graduation He also realized that a master’s degree would help differentiate him from his peers in job applications — something that certainly helped him land a gig at PwC having some experience in the real world of tax Camerano is learning to appreciate the challenges his chosen field poses “The facts never perfectly align with the law,” he explains Congress often leaves specifics of laws open to interpretation It’s up to tax professionals like Camerano to think both analytically and creatively to apply the law to specific cases forcing those in tax to stay up-to-date and be expert researchers “but what sets some apart from others is the ability to find the answer.” Camerano learned how to do this research and find the answer to each case in his graduate studies at Bentley The most important aspect of the MST program for Camerano was the expertise his professors brought to the classroom able to incorporate real examples into classroom discussions This practical approach made a big difference for Camerano once on the job but the Internal Revenue Code is extremely complex and navigating and understanding it can be a daunting task,” he says who learned the code’s ins and outs in Professor David Missirian’s Transactions course “From showing us some specific words and phrases in the code that should be noted to looking further for exceptions in the law He also greatly enjoyed Professor Scott Thomas’s class on International Tax Practice Most businesses have operations in multiple countries and having a hands-on experience with these types of companies in the classroom was important “He had us putting the numbers on the actual forms to see how it would be done in a real-world setting.” All of his classes taught Camerano something he uses daily at work and he still stays in touch with many of the professors who shaped his education Camerano works in the Boston PwC office as a tax associate He began in October 2016 and aims to continue “climbing the ladder” there With his master’s degree already conferred he is able to focus on his career completely Camerano’s business background prepares him to continue to succeed in tax “Technology is constantly evolving and only time will tell how much of the tax process becomes automated,” he says “I think we will see tax professionals become more of business advisers rather than just providing tax advice.” Court TV brings you inside the courtroom for the most compelling cases across the country with Boston police officer boyfriend and leaving him for dead during a blizzard in Canton in January 2022 Jurors in Norfolk Superior Court heard testimony from Canton police lieutenant Charles Rae, who on Tuesday began describing a well-being check he conducted at the home of the victim O’Keefe had taken in his niece and nephew and was raising them after their parents died of cancer Prosecutors allege that Read drunkenly backed her SUV into O’Keefe after dropping him off outside the home of a fellow Boston police officer early on Jan following a night of bar-hopping and drinking with friends Read’s attorneys assert that she is being framed and that O’Keefe entered the home of the fellow officer and was fatally beaten before his body was planted on the front lawn Prosecutors allege that Read returned to the scene hours later with two other women and found O’Keefe’s snow-covered body, repeatedly shouting “I hit him” in the presence of emergency responders. The defense has aggressively cross examined first responders in an effort to convince jurors they fabricated hearing such incriminating statements and Read’s attorneys have also questioned police witnesses about their personal ties to the Albert family which owned the home on Fairview Road at the time of O’Keefe’s death Here’s a rundown of the witnesses who’ve testified so far appeared to be a happy couple the night before the Boston police officer died outside a Canton home in January 2022 longtime friends of O’Keefe testified Wednesday The testimony in Read’s second degree murder trial was sharply divergent from the contention by Norfolk prosecutors that O’Keefe wanted to end their relationship along with Curt Roberts and Nicholas Kolokithas were at Canton bars the night before O’Keefe’s death testifying Wednesday that they witnessed the interactions between Read and O’Keefe Kolokithas testified they were affectionate to the point that his wife asked him why he couldn’t be that way with her A bartender at the second of two bars the couple attended testified no one seemed overly drunk,CQ in contrast to prosecution allegations that Read drunkenly and intentionally backed into O’Keefe after dropping him at a friend’s home leaving him to die in the snow during a blizzard Several witnesses testified that early next morning Read called them in a panic or sent them text messages that O’Keefe had not retuned home She said it had just started snowing when she reached her car after leaving the bar She then identified O’Keefe leaving the bar defense lawyer Alan Jackson noted that Kolokithas had testified that Read looked up to O’Keefe and admired him for his devotion to his niece and nephew He also noted that Kolokithas had indicated that O’Keefe and Read were excited about their upcoming trip “you’re coming with me,” not that Read and O’Keefe were coming with her she told prosecutor Adam Lally that O’Keefe never discussed his personal life with her But Jackson stressed that Kolokithas had testified that Read and O’Keefe were “lovey dovey” at the bar that night She then stepped down and Cannone dismissed jurors for the day — Karina Kolokithas and McCabe talk to Read “for quite a while” at the bar Kolokithas said she was talking with Jennifer McCabe at the bar when Read joined them Read and McCabe had a conversation first but she couldn’t hear it due to the noise Read was drinking clear liquid “out of a clear glass,” she said Kolokithas said she and McCabe talked to Read for “quite a while.” “She started by saying how much she admired him how much he did for the children,” she testified “She seemed to love my younger daughter and she said she really liked my daughter’s relationship with John’s niece.” Read started “talking about how much he sacrifices” for the children and that she wished other members of the O’Keefe family would “step up” and help out Read also said she wished she and O’Keefe had more time to go on dates and do activities, although she noted they were planning a trip in the future, Kolokithas said McCabe suggested going to her sister’s house on Fairview Road McCabe’s sister is married to Brian Albert Kolokithas said she told her husband “there’s no way we’re going we’re going home.” McCabe approached Read and “grabbed her” and said “you’re coming with me,” in a joking fashion as she extended the invite to Fairview Read asked where they were going and McCabe said words to the effect of “it doesn’t matter,” adding that it would be “a surprise,” Kolokithas said I thought Karen was going with Jen,” she recalled O’Keefe and Read were walking toward Read’s car She said it was “extremely loud” at the bar when she arrived because a band was playing She said she noticed the McCabes were there with her husband and then I think Jen [McCabe] started introducing me to some people,” she said Kolokithas said she was about to leave when O’Keefe and Read arrived Kolokithas’s younger daughter is friends with O’Keefe’s niece My daughter would have play dates with his niece .. If anything, you could liken it to a Sony RX1 style of a camera but with interchangeable lenses Sigma’s 45mm f2.8 pairs perfectly with it Sigma took a lot of care with the design of the Sigma Fp you can see that the LCD screen is slightly away from the rest of the body That’s because rain and snow were considered in the design This screen is designed to have elements pass between it and also help keep the camera cool With the strap that was attached to the Sigma Fp I’m sure that the door would complete the weather sealing of the Sigma Fp Here you can easily switch it into the cinema or still mode you’ll also spot the shutter release here Note that the Sigma Fp doesn’t have a hot-shoe So if you’re the person who loves shooting with natural light you’ll spot the LCD screen along with a plethora of buttons But the design is in such a way that the buttons don’t get in the way if you want to realize the true build quality of this camera The build quality on the Sigma FP has me really scratching my head I have so many questions about its design in real-life use and even trying to process all of my thoughts hurts because of the sheer amount of confusion I have around this camera So I’m going to tackle this one at a time and that weather resistance is best realized with higher-end L mount lenses Sigma’s Contemporary glass is most notably sealed at the mount You’ll want to use it with a lens filter to complete the sealing So this begs the question: why would Sigma not try to fully seal their contemporary lenses my problems have to do with the larger system and with that small size there is build quality sacrifice And if you’re not just sacrificing the weather sealing you’re also sacrificing the ergonomics Let’s move onto the button and dial layout There are two dials with no super quick way to change the ISO The industry standard for cameras has buttons around the left side None of these buttons are programmable either And that brings me into just how annoying the Sigma FP is to use What I found is that as far as photography goes folks aren’t using this camera in a serious They’re capturing their everyday life with it and using it for hobbyist reasons That’s perfect for our audience–except for the fact that this camera is a bigger mess than a Hollywood Starlet with a substance abuse problem This camera is an odd combination of buttons and touchscreen Sigma has this giant touchscreen and forces the customer to interact with their menu system There is the Quick Setting menu–which requires you to use the dials instead of interacting with it via the touchscreen more in-depth menu–which makes you again use the buttons Sigma is forcing us to use the giant screen so much and doesn’t even make a proper EVF for it why would one limit the use of their touchscreen The shooting experience would be more of a joy if I could change the ISO with a few taps of the screen I need to keep using the dials and buttons My biggest problem with the Sigma FP came from shooting our weekly show, Pro Camera Reviews, on it. Which you can catch on YouTube, and sign up to join us live every Sunday Night The best thing about the Sigma FP is that it’s basically plug and play and that machine will recognize it as a camera So using it for Zoom was actually pretty simple as far as setup goes Because there is no flippy or tilty screen I’d need to physically turn the camera back around So it’s much easier with those brands there’s some significant lag in my audio and the video the autofocus is slow and inaccurate at times one-hour long demonstration of how frustrating the Sigma FP can be for an owner Sigma’s menu system looks a bit like the Ricoh GR’s and any camera that doesn’t have a touchscreen menu system these days is automatically looked at with a bit of annoyance by me you probably won’t need to go into the menu often The most common reason why I went in was to activate the Fill Light option–which I then turned off The Sigma FP also doesn’t have any quick Fn buttons So you’re going to have to go into the menu often What’s nice is the addition of the Tone and Color buttons Those helped me change the way the images looked at times But I understand that most photographers would instead want to do that in post In a conversation last night with one of my best friends and a former staffer I was reminded of a review that he wrote when he worked for us he gave a Sigma camera two stars and said that even that was generous the more I aligned with his statement and thoughts One of the biggest problems here is the electronic-only shutter And it also limits what you’ll be able to shoot let me state that the autofocus is better with Sigma lenses than it is with Panasonic lenses We’d had folks mention this in comments on previous Panasonic S camera reviews and I will indeed confirm that something is happening behind the scenes This is a big problem with the L mount alliance in general I don’t really need to say more about this; you can watch our one-hour long video and see all the times that the camera went in and out of focus on me I’ll show you some prime examples of how this happens It starts by pressing the autofocus button down and the camera telling me that a scene is in focus This is something that I see on a few point and shoots these days but it’s also been a problem that I thought had been more or less gone with interchangeable lens cameras this happens in the “Multi Auto Focus Points” mode If I’m in a single autofocus point mode then it’s much easier for me to shoot You might be asking why I’m in Multi-autofocus it’s the easiest way to work with it There is no joystick to select a focus point with and the touch focus/shoot feature is pretty lacking in my eyes So it’s sometimes just best to sit there and let the camera choose its own focus point I confirmed that this wasn’t happening with me alone It’s an annoying problem that further makes me scratch my head an odd package when it comes to image quality It does some things that sound great in theory and on paper–but I end up utterly disappointed when I see the results I’m giving Sigma a lot of credit for trying here The hobbyist that this camera is aimed towards will think that the image quality is excellent But I’m not sure that they’ll be able to justify it to themselves at the price and considering what’s on the market Here is a RAW file that I really wanted to test that’s how you basically have to shoot with this camera because I couldn’t get a whole lot of details from the highlights you’ll probably be in a good spot to edit I’m able to push a lot of details from the shadows If you’re displaying this image digitally on a screen It’s going to have color noise galore So the weird thing about the Sigma FP is the high ISO settings Prints and digital exports look solid at ISO 6400 I haven’t seen color depth loss like this since older CCD sensors have been around I wouldn’t typically expect something like this from a full-frame sensor I’d expect it from a Four Thirds sensor the high ISO output is incredibly impressive We printed an image at ISO 6400 on the Canon Prograf 1000 with Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique II paper when we compared it to other prints from other 24MP cameras But the Sigma FP can’t hold a candle to how well both of those cameras hold colors it has some of the most beautiful high ISO colors I’ve seen Part of that is due to the gorgeous Panasonic lenses But the L Mount alliance is still very new–and it shows that they’re only now trying to ramp up The system desperately needs good pancake lenses that are fully weather-sealed and better autofocus to work in conjunction with a camera like the Sigma FP I’ve put this camera into a variety of hands and no one I know has liked the ergonomics but one shouldn’t have to use the grip or spend extra money on it The camera should work perfectly by itself you’ll use a giant hood loupe style product over the LCD to turn it into an EVF–sort of The Sigma FP has all the markings of a product that wasn’t thought out and it seems like Sigma instead was just desperate to get their own camera out Sigma was on the right track with the body but needed to flesh this out so much more A fuller rangefinder style camera body is one that I could quickly get behind as the only ones on the market are the Leica M series If this camera had a full-frame Foveon Sensor that was specialized in low ISO shooting I would completely understand the cult following behind it and I’d even probably take up the banner myself The Foveon sensor was deplorable at higher ISO settings But a full-frame Foveon sensor could be fantastic for the slower styles of work like landscapes I’d honestly also appreciate the slap in the face to the high ISO game that all the manufacturers play I’ve also known that Sigma’s autofocus has lacked in the autofocus department for years I’d probably let it go if they just had a highly tuned center focus point We’re speaking theoretically here–and the fact is that isn’t the camera that I’ve been testing for a while Can you get those same photos from an arguably better system or camera you’re getting a bigger camera but also one with a fantastic EVF for only $100 more Please enable JS and disable any ad blocker it’s got an all-matte black aesthetic designed to appeal to the stealth look That just adds to the beauty of the Leica M11 Monochrom But what it lets you do it shoot with a lot more freedom and forces your mind to think totally different Editor’s Note: We’re not writing this like our typical reviews. The Leica M11 Monochrom is mostly the same camera as the M11, so you can check out that review for more details Here’s what we were told by Leica are the biggest differences In reality, the Leica M11 Monochrom has a really odd meter. If you’re shooting in manual mode, you’d expect that the rules of Sunny 16 would apply. And for the most part, they do, if you want to do a lot of post-production But compared to what I get from the Leica M6’s meter and even my own eyes the M11’s light meter is odd whether or not you’re in the highlight-weighted priority mode If you’ve ever browsed Instagram and looked at photos of photographers holding Leica cameras and never have needed a big grip to hold onto a camera I just learned to hold a Leica rangefinder the way that they’re designed to be held With that comes the ability to shoot easily and in a clandestine fashion You can candidly capture moments on the street without even putting the camera to your eye if you understand what a focal length looks like and focus it away to five feet and then pay attention to your subjects as they come within that range you don’t have to bring the camera to your eye It gives a different perspective and lets me move so much faster I’ve learned to trust my shooting instincts over the years to know whether or not I got the shot What’s really cool about the Leica M11 Monochrom is that you don’t have to be afraid of color noise you can shoot at ISO 200,000 to your heart’s content The hybrid or electronic shutter can take over if needed; but those present another set of challenges depending on the type of photographer you are Those are discussed in the section specifically about rolling shutter it’s really liberating to be able to just shoot photos and not really worry about the rest Regularly I’d walk into the streets with the M11 Monochrom set to ISO 6400 Then I’d prefocus the lens to five or six feet away and be very happy If you push the RAW file to bring out the shadows there’s grain; but it works for the shot This is a very emancipative way of shooting that’s only mirrored by Panasonic’s L Classic Monochrom and Fujifilm Acros Film simulations the cameras still aren’t getting it perfectly right There’s no white balance setting at all but you can switch to Sepia or something like Selenium Just remember that you have to underexpose the scene because the camera can easily lose highlight information Also well worth noting: with the Profoto Connect Pro transmitter, the Leica M11 Monochrom can do high-speed sync pretty easily Combine that with the super sharp image quality that the camera is already capable of Just make sure that you get your subject in focus because that’s a very tough part of it all you don’t have to get your subject perfectly in focus for the images to be great and what the industry considers to be traditional “flaws” can and should be embraced The higher megapixels get, the more difficult manual focus becomes with rangefinders. Even with well-calibrated rangefinders, manual focus is incredibly difficult if you’re shooting wide open and focusing very carefully. It indeed becomes easier when you use zone focusing for stuff like street photography shooting wide open and getting a subject perfectly in focus is pretty tough with the Leica M11 Monochrom Part of the reasons why not only has to do with more megapixels on the sensor magnifying your own missed shots but also the fact that Leica still hasn’t done much to give the viewfinder and the rangefinder windows an anti-reflective coating then focusing through the viewfinder becomes very tenuous The Leica M11 Monochrom has a “problem” with rolling shutter And I’m writing that purposely in quotes because we’ve been taught to think that it’s a problem If you’re looking for crystal clear sharpness But you arguably might not always then buy a Leica and you’re embracing the Leica for what the Japanese manufacturers call flaws In an internal staff conversation, we’ve been rethinking how we approach reviews and art due to what’s going on with AI. And we’re thinking about being unapologetically human. If you look at the work of Henriette Sabroe Ebbesen you’ll see that her photos have distortions and takes on the body that are typically frowned upon by most But her work is art; and an AI probably wouldn’t try to make humans look that way it’ll manicure them to look like an impossible beauty standard: which isn’t far off from what we do anyway in ads and stuff But Henriette’s work at times looks like it embraced rolling shutter problems with a camera I think that we can embrace rolling shutter for artistic reasons we also must keep in mind that there are folks that might need a silent electronic shutter without rolling issues the Leica M11 Monochrom’s shutter is very quiet as it is And it doesn’t need to be perfectly silent I’m looking at rolling shutter issues in a different light We understand that folks might need crystal clear clarity the M11 Monochrom can situationally disappoint you But if you’re looking to embrace it for trippy artistic reasons I think the Leica M11 Monochrom can be a fun tool that you’re pretty much already buying for the artistic reasons anyway The Phoblographer has been huge on transparency with our audience lots of folks will post reviews and show lots of editing in the photos The problem then becomes that anyone and everyone can do the same thing They’re not showing what the lens can do So we have a section in our Extra Image Samples area to show edited and unedited photos John Lennon and their immigration attorney leave the Immigration and Naturalization Service in New York City on March 16 an immigration attorney who had no idea who he was remembers his father coming home to tell his mother about their first meeting 'A singer by the name of Jack Lemon and his wife Yoko Moto,' " Michael recalls 'Are you talking about the Beatles and John Lennon?' My father said Lennon and Wildes often were caught on camera outside immigration court in New York City — as well as on late-night talk shows such as NBC's The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder "What is your status in the country right now?" Snyder asked Lennon during a show taping in 1975 He glances over at Leon Wildes sitting across from him on a dark TV set John was charged with being deportable in the U.S who has written a new book about Lennon's deportation case called John Lennon vs Lennon was on a tourist visa that expired while he was helping his wife with a custody battle over her daughter from a previous marriage But immigration officials gave them only just over month before Lennon would have to leave Wildes put in an application for a green card But Lennon still wanted to stay in America "I like to be here because this is where the music came from," Lennon said "This is what influenced my whole life and got me where I am today." But FBI files show that the Nixon administration wanted Lennon along with his anti-war activism and influence over young voters So Wildes started digging for another route "I always had a feeling that the government must have a program to exercise some discretion," Wildes said Wildes said it was "because there were rumors of certain guys who were — had critical criminal backgrounds and bad immigration histories and seemed to be still around." Those guys probably benefited from what's now known as "prosecutorial discretion." It's based mainly on the premise that the federal government doesn't have enough resources to deport all of the immigrants living in the U.S immigration officials can choose to prioritize certain deportation cases while holding off on other ones for humanitarian or political reasons The problem at the time was that Wildes didn't have proof that this kind of program existed until he filed a Freedom of Information Act request "Unbelievable feeling that I had succeeded." immigration officials to publicize a secret policy deferred action was a complete mystery because there wasn't even a guideline for attorneys and noncitizens," says Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia who teaches immigration law at Penn State University and wrote Beyond Deportation: The Role of Prosecutorial Discretion in Immigration Cases the government had shielded some immigrants living in the U.S illegally from deportation because of their sympathetic cases The Obama administration used that policy to create the original Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program "Eligible individuals who do not present a risk to national security or public safety will be able to request temporary relief from deportation proceedings and apply for work authorization," said President Obama in a 2012 announcement as well as the creation of a similar program called Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents is currently on hold because of legal challenges the original DACA program covers more than 700,000 young people brought to the U.S as children — all in part because of that immigrant from Liverpool Become an NPR sponsor It’s the part of the eye exam everyone hates: the pupil-dilating eye drops The drops work by opening the pupil and preventing the iris from constricting in response to light and are often used for routine examination and photography of the back of the eye and cause blurry vision for several hours afterwards often making them inconvenient for both patient and doctor researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School have developed a cheap portable camera that can photograph the retina without the need for pupil-dilating eye drops Made out of simple parts mostly available online the camera’s total cost is about $185 a resident in the department of ophthalmology and visual sciences in the UIC College of Medicine has his retina photographed using a camera based in the Raspberry Pi 2 computer “As residents seeing patients in the hospital there are often times when we are not allowed to dilate patients — neurosurgery patients for example,” said Dr a second-year ophthalmology resident at the UIC College of Medicine there are times when we find something abnormal in the back of the eye but it is not practical to wheel the patient all the way over to the outpatient eye clinic just for a photograph.” The prototype camera can be carried in your pocket and can take pictures of the back of the eye without eye drops The pictures can be shared with other doctors or attached to the patient’s medical record The camera is based on the Raspberry Pi 2 computer single-board computer designed to teach children how to build and program computers and a dual infrared- and white-light-emitting diode a small display screen and several cables – make up the rest of the camera The camera works by first emitting infrared light which the iris – the muscle that controls the opening of the pupil – does not react to which is why pupil-dilating eye drops are needed The infrared light is used to focus the camera on the retina a quick flash of white light is delivered as the picture is taken Cameras exist that use this same infrared/white light technique but they are bulky and often cost thousands of dollars Shen’s camera photos show the retina and its blood supply as well as the portion of the optic nerve that leads into the retina It can reveal health issues that include diabetes glaucoma and elevated pressure around the brain Shen and his co-author, Dr. Shizuo Mukai, associate professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and a retina surgeon at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, describe their camera and provide a shopping list of parts and the code needed to program the camera in the Journal of Ophthalmology “This is an open-source device that is cheap and easy to build,” said Mukai “We expect that others who build our camera will add their own improvements and innovations.” but it shows that it is possible to build a cheap camera capable of taking quality pictures of the retina without dilating eye drops “It would be cool someday if this device or something similar was carried around in the white-coat pockets of every ophthalmology resident and used by physicians outside of ophthalmology as well.” This work was supported in part by gifts to the Mukai Fund of Massachusetts Eye and Ear , , With the rise of smartphones and mirrorless cameras photography gear has gotten more compact over the past decade like medical imaging and miniature robotics current camera tech still proves far too bulky researchers have pushed the boundaries of what’s possible with an experimental camera that’s similar in size to a grain of salt and yet offers image quality that’s an order of magnitude ahead of prior efforts on a similar scale Designed by a team of researchers from Princeton University and the University of Washington, the new system is detailed in a paper published last week in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Communications It replaces the complex and bulky compound lens found in most cameras With a metasurface that’s just 0.5mm wide the camera is studded with 1.6 million cylindrical “nanoposts” that shape the light rays passing within The metasurface camera is said to provide image quality on par with a conventional camera and lens that is 500,000 times larger in volume After comparing the sample images in the paper and Youtube video above we’d say that’s perhaps a little too generous but we don’t want to take away from the team’s achievements in the least Compared to the earlier metasurface cameras the new version differs in the design of its individual nanoposts as well as in its subsequent image processing The nanotubes’ structure was optimized using machine-learning algorithms which prioritized image quality and field-of-view adopted neural feature-based deconvolution techniques the results of the new image processing were fed back to allow further improvements to the nanotube structure yielding a huge step forward from the results possible with past efforts While the compound optic still has a pretty obvious advantage in terms of fine detail the gap between technologies is certainly shrinking the research team is planning to increase the metasurface camera’s computational abilities This should allow not only another step forwards in terms of image quality but also other capabilities such as object detection suggests that the goal is to break into the smartphone market you could see the multiple cameras in your smartphone replaced by a single metasurface that turns its entire rear panel into a camera Is the era of awkward camera bumps soon to meet its end Sign up for Popular Photography's newsletter and join the club © 2024 Recurrent Industry told not to film fight sequences and other close contact between actors and crews told to wash hands regularly Thailand’s film industry has been instructed not to shoot any love scenes, fighting or acts that involve close contact, to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. As officials continued to relax lockdown measures across Thailand, production companies were told to adapt their work to comply with social distancing rules. Under guidance issued by Yupha Thawiwattanakit Bowon, deputy permanent secretary of culture, filmmakers must work in well-ventilated spaces, with no more than 50 crew members present. Special effects and camera angles can be used to help depict scenes that would usually require intimacy or contact, and all people off-camera must wear a mask. The clip was shared on his dedicated TikTok account (@teddythedox) and it's already generated more than 292,000 views said: "Although his disability has made it a little harder for him to get around versus before he's shown me that there's little he can't do "It's been my greatest joy getting to share his story on social media and in real life both to shed light on knowing the signs of IVDD IVDD is a neurological condition that affects the spinal cord vertebrae and the disc material between each vertebra The condition occurs when the cushioning between the bones and the spinal column bulges or bursts There are certain breeds that are more susceptible to IVDD Most of the time, Teddy can be seen using his wheelchair to get around, which supports his rear end and allows him to walk without his front legs bearing all of his weight. There's little doubt that living with the condition is extremely difficult at times, but when Teddy wants to play or zoom around his owner joked that "there ain't no stopping him." Many TikTok users have loved seeing how Teddy manages to move around and the viral post has received hundreds of comments praising his bravery One person commented: "Those legs just got in the way Another person wrote: "Nothing can stop him." "This is the actual cutest video of zoomies," one TikTok user commented Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share Send them to life@newsweek.com with some details about your best friend and they could appear in our Pet of the Week lineup Lots of photographers will teach you tutorials about how to get more details out of a scene in post-production But the truth is that you don’t need it we believe in the philosophy of getting rid of the problem to begin with Lots of you who use Adobe Lightroom know about using the Dehaze tool and all it does when it launched it really was pretty innovative and in some ways it can still prove very useful there’s a little thing that photographers have been using for years to get rid of haze The key to all of this is a simple tool: a Polarizer. Specifically, circular polarizers help you to dial in just the right amount of dehaze that you wish in the same way that the slider would in Lightroom Does it mean that you need to carry one more thing on you you could just always have it stuck to the front of your camera’s lens Make sure you’re using a circular polarizer and not a polarizer/ND filter combo If you have an ND built in then you’re going to cut down on available light you’ll be able to cut down on glare in the same way that polarizing sunglasses do The difference is that the coatings on polarizing film and glasses don’t work anywhere as well as a dedicated filter ensuring that your filter is clean will get you the most details in your photo The extra added benefit is even better coloring .st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Staten Island Advance StaffSTATEN ISLAND - Nuptial vows were exchanged May 5 in Holy Child R.C by Great Kills residents Jeanine Camerano and Nicholas A A reception followed in the Hilton Garden Inn The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in the Bahamas the daughter of the late Catherine Camerano The bridesmaids were Maria Nocerino Rivera and Victoria Vitelli The bridegroom is the son of Marianne Nocerino of Eltingville and the late Ralph Nocerino The ushers were Daniel Dorazio and Nicholas Zampella Nocerino is a graduate of Tottenville High School and is a title clerk with Martin and Loiacono in Westerleigh Nocerino is a graduate of Susan Wagner High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from St He is a controller with The Nicotra Group in Bloomfield Use of and/or registration on any portion of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement, (updated 8/1/2024) and acknowledgement of our Privacy Policy, and Your Privacy Choices and Rights (updated 1/1/2025) © 2025 Advance Local Media LLC. According to a recent DGA study conducted from 2009-2014 only 18% of first-time directors helming episodic TV projects were female The figures come as women dominated the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday where four out of five shows nominated in the Best Series – Musical or Comedy category boasted female showrunners Jill Solloway’s Amazon series “Transparent” took home the top prize Best Actress winner Gina Rodriguez also leads a show — “Jane the Virgin” — with a female showrunner Investigative stories and local news updates Coverage of the Hawaiʻi State legislature in 2025 Award winning in-depth reports and featured on-going series Get the week’s news delivered straight to your inbox The film industry brings roughly $180 million and 2,500 jobs to Hawaii each year, but productions that choose to film here are met by a dilapidated studio that has suffered from scarce funding and years of wear and tear “It’s an embarrassment,” said Donne Dawson, the state film commissioner who has managed the Diamond Head studio and Hawaii Film Office since 2001 “We need to have a production facility that the state can be proud of Hawaii needs to protect its hard-earned reputation as a film-friendly location.” Many of the buildings on the 7.5-acre lot date back to the 1970s when CBS began leasing the Kapiolani Community College site for the original Hawaii 5-0 series But some of the newer structures have problems Several of the buildings lack electricity and are rife with safety hazards A set of bungalows used to store wardrobes has fallen victim to decades of termite ant and rat damage and needs to be torn down The air conditioning system frequently breaks down causing the soundstage to become so hot that actors’ makeup runs The studio is in such disrepair that some productions have helped to subsidize improvements Most recently the studio hosted Last Resort all of which were cancelled after their first seasons costumes and set decorations used in those series — as well as Lost which wrapped up in 2010 after six successful years of production — at an onsite rummage sale open to the public.) Advocates say it’s critical that the state fund basic repair and maintenance work for the facility if it wants to be competitive in the film industry “Even though that studio is really small and only of limited value to series, having something is better than nothing,” said state Sen. David Ige, who chairs the Ways and Means Committee But it’s unclear whether the studio will secure the money it needs to bring its facilities up to par recent attempts to increase legislative support for the film industry were largely unsuccessful The studio is fully funded by the state and operates under the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism Funding comes from bonds issued by the state it’s always been a challenge of balancing the potential value of the film industry” with other needs The Diamond Head studio needs about $10.8 million worth of basic repair and maintenance work One-tenth of that amount — $1.73 million — has been set aside in the 2013 capital improvement budget Dawson hopes lawmakers will approve the rest of the money for fiscal years 2014 and 2016 The most critical upgrade involves the aging air conditioning system in the studio’s soundstage The 16,500-square-foot stage area is the only facility in the state with a controlled environment fit for shooting sound causing delays and creating less-than-ideal conditions for filming But the AC system is just one item on the checklist Also high-priority are facilities that pose safety hazards The tank building — used for controlled underwater filming — lacks electricity which she said are too heavy and dangerous to move and The building is also home to rats and nesting carpenter ants Dawson acknowledged that it would likely be years before the studio is at the level it should be An interior roadway needs to be widened so that it’s easier and safer for big production trucks to turn Dawson hopes the state will fund a second soundstage at the Diamond Head site former chair of the House Finance committee The studio’s flaws cause production delays and delays are a production’s biggest enemy “If they have to wait around or flip their schedule and the whole process slows to a grinding halt,” Dawson said “They’ll go where they can get the film done Local proponents of the film industry point to the economic boon for the state — both direct and indirect The film industry adds $180 million to Hawaii’s economy annually In 2010 — a record production year for the state — the industry brought in $407 million Productions last year hired about 2,500 temporary employees The state itself has focused on growing the local industry workforce by developing and expanding digital programs at public schools and the University of Hawaii Lost producer Jean Higgins pointed out that the film industry also provides invaluable advertising for the state “No tourism department would ever be able to buy that kind of advertisement,” Higgins said The state offers tax credits to give production companies incentive to bring their films to Hawaii. The Legislature in 2006 passed Act 88 which established a credit amounting to either 15 percent or 20 percent of any production expenditures made in the state Productions get a 20 percent tax credit on neighbor islands because costs are higher The state saw a record number of productions in the tax credit’s first year “Incentives are the name of the game,” Dawson said Forty-eight states have tax incentive programs and studios are constantly on the lookout for locations that will give them the best bang for their buck Ige said Hawaii is constantly struggling to maintain its competitive edge in the industry The cost of filming in the state is so high that relatively few producers choose to bring their projects to the islands any location can virtually look like any other,” he said “We’ll get projects that have very few alternatives or ones with a story that insists on filming in Hawaii some critics say that targeted business tax credits can actually end up hurting the state economy “A tax credit approach where there is no obvious need for tax relief is not an appropriate way to spend state dollars,” said Lowell Kalapa, president of the Tax Foundation of Hawaii “Tax credits and other incentives sell Hawaii short.” Kalapa said the tax credits opened the door for too much back-door spending exempt from public scrutiny He questioned whether funding for the film studio and its incentives should take precedence over other programs such as the state’s early learning initiative The tax credit program is set to end in 2015 but Dawson is proposing that the Legislature this session push back the sunset date Dawson also wants to bump the state’s spending cap up from $8 million to $12 million and open the credit to Internet-only productions Because capital improvement funding often comes in at just a fraction of the amount requested Dawson said the studio has often relied on resident productions — such as Baywatch and Lost — to subsidize basic upgrades offset a production’s rent in exchange for in-kind contributions such as studio maintenance State funds slowed to a trickle during the economic recession which even forced the state to lay off Dawson between 2009 and 2012 The studio’s operating budget was reduced to an all-time low of $17,000 in the 2010 fiscal year Dawson is confident the studio has the Legislature’s support The state has already put roughly $17 million into the studio over the years — a testament to its investment in the facilities That funding includes the $7.3 million the state put into the studio in 2002 a mill for set construction and other studio improvements were part of a project that began in the early 1990s (The original set of CIP funding that was earmarked for the upgrades — about $5.5 million — lapsed after the state decided the studio was underused.) Dawson has asked the Legislature to reestablish a special fund to direct revenue generated by the film industry to studio repair and maintenance The original special fund was repealed in 2003 Oshiro said Dawson has a good chance of making that happen “What she wants is some predictability and reliability with a funding stream … I can appreciate what she’s seeking,” Oshiro said “It should be considered as long as we understand where the money comes from and how the money is being spent.” A significant added incentive for filmmakers would The Diamond Head studio often lacks enough space for big productions forcing producers to resort to retrofitted warehouses and ancillary sites Dawson noted that the current soundstage is too small for some productions But the Kapolei studio is just a blueprint at this point emphasizing that the studio would be a private enterprise Neil Abercrombie last year met with studio executives in Los Angeles to discuss plans for the Kapolei studio but infrastructure is his biggest priority according to his spokeswoman Louise Kim McCoy “Whatever they may be doing is separate and apart from what needs to happen at Diamond Head,” Dawson said Unfortunately, being named a finalist for a Pulitzer prize doesn’t make us immune to financial pressures. cybercriminals to turn a handset into a spying device Due to the risk of mobile breaches turning smartphones into surveillance devices designed without a camera and GPS functionality The idea is that this smartphone will prevent criminals from embedding ‘peeping Tom’ malware allowing hackers to collect personal images via the device’s camera and combined with GPS images can become a real threat to personal safety and privacy Faisal Al Bannai said: “There is a very real concern that your mobile phone could be hijacked by malware “This can happen by downloading a seemingly innocent app onto the phone but within the app are a series of permissions that transform the camera into a spy device The app is the so-called Trojan horse that installs surveillance software onto the device and brings intruders into your private environment.” the most effective means of protection is to ensure the devices the malware exploits do not enter secure environments The Four K500 helps achieve this by omitting features that malware depends upon – camera and GPS – while otherwise being a full-featured smartphone “The K500 is tailored towards organisations that wish to absolutely eliminate the risk of being spied upon,” said Al Bannai which are the two key features that allow spyware to record a physical environment Some workplaces are requiring such devices for reasons of site security but we believe they can also play an important role in personal safety and can be of great value to parents concerned about the safety of their children.” With the exception of the camera and GPS functionality with features including a quad-core processor the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system The K500 is priced at AED 299 and comes with two screen protectors and a free flip cover inside the box along with a one-year warranty from axiom Telecom Subscribe to receive the latest tech news & views in Middle East & Africa The ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a sleek and lightweight design but at the cost of three popular features found in current iPhone models The Information reported that the iPhone 17 Air would feature a single speaker integrated into the earpiece at the top of the device Recent 3D renders appear to confirm this rumor showing only a few small holes on the bottom edge likely for a microphone rather than an external speaker the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to feature a single 48MP Fusion camera on the back the absence of an Ultra-Wide camera means users won't be able to capture ultra-wide-angle shots This design choice likely allows Apple to allocate more internal space for a larger battery Apple began removing the physical SIM slot in the U.S It's no surprise that the iPhone 17 Air will continue this trend The Information suggests that Apple plans to phase out the physical SIM tray in more countries this year This means the iPhone 17 Air may only support eSIM globally rather than offering a combination of eSIM and physical SIM options as before Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Air in September Every kid should get a dumb phone I have come to the conclusion that most of us need a “dumb phone.” We need to be able to call but we do not need to be in constant contact with vast social networks all day but the temptation is there and for younglings the social media giants spend their jillions of dollars psychologically inducing participation You can only do what you can do and the “dumb phone” cannot do too much It is the Mary Poppins of phones: sufficient The trouble is that my old solution: carrying an older flip phone is dying out as an option My own flip phone ceased to function on up to date networks and had to be thrown away Light phone has come to the rescue and I can report it is most excellent connect to Bluetooth headphones and so leave this tiny little piece of plastic in my pocket The good news is that this is all I can do I took this phone on a date with the Fairest Flower in all Christendom my adult children and parents could reach me nothing happened but sweet conversation between Hope and me while my temptation to play Star Trek Timelines on a date was gone There was no temptation to multitask and check my email There was no ability to keep working and bring up Word Light Phone doesn’t do Microsoft applications All of this liberty came in a package that weighs about the same as my business card carrier a hunk of black plastic with a “Kindle style” e-reader screen In bright sunlight the screen outperforms most smart phones and in the dark: I should be asleep with the bonus that the light from the phone will not keep you awake after your call is done My provider set up the SIM card and phone easily and the entire service will cost less than ten dollars a month The lack of a camera means that privacy breeches (intentionally or unintentionally) are minimized The phone makes calls easily and the speaker is clear Texting is much harder than on an iPhone and so while one can do so The good people at Light Phone have provided a very basic small chunk of external plastic and internal tech that does a few things well: phone but Light Phone is True to form, the Samsung S23 Plus and its fancier older sister, the S23 Ultra (which packs Samsung’s first ever 200MP main camera) is not only notably larger than its predecessor but is more efficient in every way possible; from improved camera efficient display and overall better specs with the battery lasting 20 percent longer While the S22 series was generally a phenomenal lineup many users would know that it wasn’t without flaws how the device would overheat on certain occasion Below is a look at more top features that stood out for us.  you’ll certainly love it if you’re a fan of large devices and though it weighs the same as its predecessor this newer model is 0.4mm wider and taller All thanks to its thicker 6.6-inch form factor it doesn’t feel like a mini sun in my hand as did the S22.  this is the device you should seriously consider The depth of the image quality is almost unreal the vivid colors the device picks up will have users begging you ‘would you please send me those images’ I personally have had several occasions where friends asked me to send them content of us playing soccer I could bore you with the figures and specs nobody really asks about the camera specs when looking at images Most people just care that they don’t look awkward or blurry However here are the specs for the tech nerds:  The important thing is the camera is second to none currently. I’m willing to bet on it. We even got some amazing shots of the moon as seen in the embedded tweet below. The camera is so powerful we may have spotted aliens taking selfies with Elon Musk and the Space X team NowInSA Tech: check out the camera on the s23+. You don't need a SpaceX or Doge coin to go to the Moon pic.twitter.com/kMMhDHJXKS Another feature which we’ve grown accustomed to and some may take for granted is the screen technology Samsung prides itself in making phones you can drop confidently without having to worry about incurring any serious damage Fun fact: did you know that the 23 is the first device to use Gorrila Glass Victus 2 meaning your phone will stay looking newer even after long use A phone as powerful as the S23 plus – specs wise – shouldn’t have a battery last as long as it does perhaps it’s still in the early days to tell if the 4,700mAh hold up for longer hours but for now it’s doing incredibly well to power such a powerful mobile device And though both the S23 and S23+ have fast charging capabilities at 45 Watts the S23+ has almost double the charging speed compared to its smaller sibling at 24 Watts While the S22 was absolutely one of the best gaming devices you can get today thanks to the smooth game play on racing games The S23 however might as well be a gaming console on the go it’s hard to reason why one would consider a gaming console unless it’s for nostalgia What with the accompanying UFS 4.0 storage which is double the read and write speed (than the S22’s UFS 3.1) making the device more faster and responsive than ever Then enters the more improved Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which according to Samsung is 40% more efficient than its predecessor Apart from the disappointing unchanged refresh rate notably the absence of the energy saving adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate found in the Galaxy S23 Ultra there are plenty of other notable features to write home about – apart from the battery Point in case being the loud and crystal clear audio sound not to mention its ability to cancel out high-pitched noises making your music listening experience all the more pleasant In the sense that ‘where do devices go from here?’ ‘Do they get more powerful?’ ‘More intelligent than the S23?’ If this is the going standard we just can’t wait to see what the next generation of flagship smartphones looks like Contact us: info@nowinsa.co.za
